4 out of 5 stars Sometimes, mental disease is funny to watch.......2007-05-22

The movie depicts a true life story on how a woman is tightened by an early extreme experience and leaves a quiet, pleasant , ordinary, problem free life for prosecuting a career on her perversion. Never a medical lesson was so good explained, and few times "common" people acts better told. When I was a child, a school mate told me that movie makers were running out of subjects, romans and ancient mitology and westerns exhausted, and I had the idea that psychiatrist's offices would be a very good source of ideas. That film proves that the concept was not so bad. Enjoy an special part of every day's spanish life!

If you like wild, crazy and uninhibited Spanish comedy, then "Kill Me Tender" (AKA "Haz Conmigo lo que Quieras") is a film for you. Lonely middle-aged widower Nestor (Emilio Gutierrez Caba) is at a crossroads in his life following the death of his beloved wife. His daughter and her philandering husband decide to buy him a satellite dish--with all those extra channels--to keep him occupied at night. Soon Nestor is introduced to late night 'adult' television. At first, he disapproves, but then he becomes addicted. His new television habit coincides with giving the explosive Maribel (Ingrid Rubio) a job in his bakery. Nestor is troubled by Maribel's presence (she turns up on her first day dressed as though she's going to a disco), but he's soon obsessed with her. Pressured to marry Nestor, Maribel takes a trip to Barcelona to visit her sister Angela (Chusa Barbero) who works--with unabashed enthusiasm--in an S&M house.

On a blind date with Angela and her ex-Foreign Legion beau, Benito (Manuel Manquina), Maribel meets Manolo (Albert San Juan). He's a professional debt bunny--donned in a bunny costume, he dogs people until--in theory--they become so embarrassed or harassed, they pay off their debts. Manolo, however, isn't a particularly successful debt bunny, and he's more often than not bludgeoned for his efforts. Manolo's meeting with Maribel changes both their lives. With her as a sidekick, toting a gun, and driving his Starsky and Hutch car, they collect debts. Ambitious, money-hungry Maribel decides to marry Nestor--after all--he has a heart condition and can't live for much longer. So the plan is to marry Nestor, and keep Manolo on the side waiting for the funeral to set them both free....

Like most things in life, the plans go wrong. Nestor proves to be a little more difficult, and Maribel proves to be less patient than necessary. All this adds up to a film that had me laughing almost non-stop. Mainly it's the brilliantly constructed characterizations that carry this film--there's Maribel who looks like a Goth Lolita, Nestor--who's obsessed with Dean Martin, and Manolo's mother--who looks like an escapee from "Night of the Living Dead." With a great soundtrack, this film blasts through with wild Spanish humour from beginning to end, and proves once again that some of the funniest, most original and lively films come from Spain these days. There's even a flamenco guitar version of "Strangers in the Night." From director Ramon De Espana, "Haz Conmigo lo que Quieras" ("Kill Me Tender") is in Spanish with English subtitles--displacedhuman
