Comedian Cedric the Entertainer (The Original Kings of Comedy, Barbershop) uses his considerable appeal to introduce some up-and-coming young standup comedians by hosting Cedric the Entertainer's Starting Lineup. Fortunately for Cedric's fans, he does a good chunk of comedy himself, affably riffing on Bill Clinton, the death penalty, reality television, fast-food chicken, church etiquette, and much more. The other comedians are a mixed lot: Roland Powell amusingly mocks insecure boyfriends and sings a singles bar pick-up song and Juan Villareal gets some laughs out of food stamps and The Blair Witch Project, while Tony Luewellyn flounders through weak material about Ex-Lax and the war on terror. Only J.J., who wears a vivid red leather suit, has a fully developed comic style, which gives a surreal spin to roadkill and giving birth to septuplets. I loved Cedric the Entertainer in the Kings of Comedy. I initially thought this was a tape of just Cedric, but only after buying it did I realize that he was essentially the MC for a bunch of lesser-known comics. While Cedric did a bit of stuff between comics, I felt that even he was not on point. And as to the other comedians, while I got a chuckle here and there, overall this was not funny, at least IMHO. And the first comedian in particular... I found it painful to watch him. I thought he was pretty bad. Anyway, I'll be donating this tape to my local Salvation Army. Not even worth trying to sell it on Amazon.

An awesome & hilarious comedy dvd with the funniest comics!! This was a great idea & opportunity for up & coming comedy stars all due to Cedric the Entertainer!! Thanks for the laughs Ced!!

4 out of 5 stars You Got That Luther.......2004-06-12

This DVD was not exactly all that but at least it gave up and comer's a chance to shine. The 1st, 2nd and last guy were the funniest. The 3rd guy could've stayed at home. He won't live long in the comedy business. And then you had Cedric with his jokes. They were funny but not Kings of Comedy level. My opinion is its worth buying and watching.

I was well up for this DVD and the first 15 minutes or so didn't let me down but the rest was so so and ended up leaving me quite disappointed. Cedric was good but didn't appear in it enough. What was it 2 or 3 segments? The other guys were OK and had some good material that created a few laughs but no bellyache and u gotta get a bellyache to really enjoy a good stand-up show. Although I think Cedric is funnier than Harvey I actually rate Harvey's stand-up show more than this because he was the star of the show and had 2 separate performances on his DVD. A serious let-down that has left me in doubts about the sequel.

This DVD was somewhat of a disappointment. I expected great things having purchased the hilarious first edition. First off, there was only one comedian (save cedric) who actually made me laugh as opposed to just chuckle, he was the first comedian to be presented by Cedric. Secondly, even Cedric himself whom I rate very highly wasn't as funny as I have know him to be. Lastly, The show is just under an hour long..........what the heck is that about?. In short if you are someone how is satisfied with mediocrity then by all means...........Allez-y.

I decided to check this out because I had seen the first "Starting Line Up",plus I love the Platinum Comedy Series.Cedric's performance on here is funnier than ever.I love his jokes about Snoop Dogg.I hate Snoop,so I was glad to hear someone make fun of him.The other comedians on here are funny also.The first comedian on here,Leon Rogers,makes fun of the music I like,but he is hilarious!I love his impression of DMX.The second comic,Nema Williams,is not funny at all.I am white,so I like white comics,but I hated the way he was telling all black jokes to get laughs.The third comedian on here,Rodney Perry,was funny,but he cussed WAY too much.The last comedian on here is Prescott.He was funny,but again, he cussed WAY too much.This is better than Volume 1,but not as good as "D.L. Hughley Live" or Dave Chappelle's "Killin Them Softly".

Cedric The Entertainer has won four consecutive NAACP Image Awards for "Outstanding Actor in a Comedy Series" for his role on WB's #1 rated sitcom "The Steve Harvey Show." He nabbed the top commercial spot during the broadcast of the 2001 Super Bowl in his memorable Bud Light commercial. USA Today dubbed him "Madison Avenue's Most Valuable Player." Cedric headlined one of the most successful comedy tours and stand up comedy films of all time, "The Original Kings of Comedy Tour."

"Cedric The Entertainer: Starting Lineup," filmed in the boxing ring at the Biloxi Grand Casino in Mississippi, features a hilarious stand-up performance from Cedric that showcases his dynamic comedic flair.
