Ernest Dickerson, one-time cinematographer for Spike Lee and director of Demon Knight, said during the initial release of this film that he chose the project because he was a lifelong fan of the horror genre. Other horror fans should be thankful, because without Dickerson's enthusiasm and visual sense, this derivative gorefest wouldn't come close to the entertainment level that it ultimately achieves. The film was the first big- screen adaptation of HBO's Tales from the Crypt series, a show based on the EC comic books of the '50s. Like Creepshow before it, Demon Knight blends fair amounts of blood, sex, and knowing comedy with a paper-thin plot that doesn't leave a bit of room for subtext. Dickerson understands this, so instead he pumps the flick full of eye-popping visuals and gorgeous camerawork, and populates it with terrific character actors (especially Billy Zane, who really has fun, and William Sadler) who don't seem to care that their characters have little identity. Everyone seems to be giving this tiny project everything they've got, while never taking it seriously for a minute. We've seen the story before: A diverse bunch (a hooker, the town drunk, the ex-con, etc.) is locked in a rundown hotel and is forced to battle the Legions of Evil massed outside and determined to get in. Regardless, Dickerson, shooting with as little light as possible, manages to create some tense moments. There's a lot wrong with Demon Knight's shallow premise, and you could make a checklist of the movies it gleefully steals from (Night of the Living Dead and The Evil Dead are two of many), but thrill-seekers who prefer laughs with their grisly special effects and gratuitous nudity should have a mindless blast watching it. --Dave McCoy

DEMONS 2 is Good Film -- Period!.......2007-06-04
I love reading reviews where people say this film had "bad editing" "plot holes" "bad acting." Reality Check: This is NOT "Gone with the Wind!" This is a horror film that does not pretend to be anything other than it is: A cheesy film filled with gore and a lot of in-your-face action. In addition, for those who think this film was any worse than the first film -- whatever. Same story -- just a different setting -- Demons creating more demons. Truth is: This is a highly entertaining Italian film. It is far better than many of the sub-par Italian horror flicks that have graced the silver screen. Being critical of this film is easy to do -- as is frying almost any horror film. This film is a decent watch. It is worth every minute of its 93 minute running time.
really good...but for the fans!.......2007-05-07
this movie is not for everybody. The fans of the first movie will like probably this movie but don't lose your time if you are never see the first movie.
PURE CRAP.......2007-03-18
This movie is an utter crap fest! I remember watching this film as a kid. Back then it was a scarry experience, watching it now is just plain mind numbing. This movie is beyond bad, and while some campy films can be quite entertaining, this is definitelly not one of those movies. Horrible acting, laughable demon makeups, zero excitement for horror fans. Don't waste your money on this crap, rent it before you consider buying it.
D-TV... .......2007-01-19
No, it's certainly not as good as the first one, but I did enjoy some of DEMONS 2. The beginning is cool enough, with the demon's resurrection and it's gaining access into Sally's apartment via the TV set. The tension and dread seem to build quite nicely. That is, right up to the scene where the kid-demon's chest pops open to reveal an idiotic, rubber demon puppet! Ugg! It reminded me of those stupid monsters in GHOULIES, HOBGOBLIN, or some other wretched '80s mess! The apartment building setting was interesting, but seemed to be mostly wasted on the few, precious bursts of action we actually get. I did like the weightlifter folks in the gym. They were hilarious and at least they put up a fight against the infernal invaders! The battle in the parking garage was ok too. Maybe I just expected D2 to be a bit more frightening and disturbing...
Demons 2...Hell yeah!.......2006-11-10
This movie isn't as good as the first one, but if you liked demons 1 you have to see this one. In this movie they air the movie that summoned the demons in the first film on TV. A bunch of people turn to demons and their you have it. good 80's horror. Check it out.

Tales From Crypt: Demon Knight.......2007-05-13
Now those who want a great story line, great plot and a few jumps here and there this is a great find. Unlike its cousin film by the crypt keeper bordello of blood this movie has a little bit of something for everyone of corse following the rating of the film. This is another collecor Diamond in the ruff find, Great cast too. A must see, and must have for Tales From The Crypt fans.
I Wish There Would Have Been A Part 2.......2007-04-09
This very original movie was such a breathe of fresh air in the mid 90's when other so called horror movies were playing it safe. The ultimate battle between good and evil comes to a small road side town HO-tel. Billy Zane is great in this role as well as the supporting cast and the very lovely Jada Pinkett. The atmosphere in this movie fits so well. Very dark scenes and gore galore with a great plot turns out to be a great modern horror movie. The biggest crime is that there was only one installment. I want to know more!!!
One of the best, and most original, horror movies ever made........2007-01-04
I think the thing I like the most about this film is its plot, and how original it is. It involves a man who has been entrusted with the responsibility of protecting an ancient artifact and keep it from falling into the hands of dark forces. Ever since he was given this artifact, an arch-demon has been tracking him and he has been on the run for years. When he was given the artifact, a group of stars appeared as a tattoo in the center of the palm of his hand. Immediately, one of the stars moved toward the outside of his palm. Now, as the film opens, the final star is about to move to the outside of his palm and he knows his time is running out and he has to make his final stand. The arch-demon is close behind him as he approaches an old motel in a one-stoplight town in the desert. The people in that motel are in for a hell of a night as the stranger enters, and the arch-demon shows up soon after.
Everything is done right in this film. The action, the acting, the direction, the script, it's all there. This is truly a classic, unlike that other film bearing the Tales From The Crypt brand, Bordello of Blood, which is a total turkey (I'm planning on writing a review for that one, too, and totally blasting it to hell even though I'm sure three hundred other people already have).
Demon Knight is awesome. It's survival horror in the vein of a few zombie movies I can think of, but with a twist -- the monsters lurking in the darkness outside are demons, summoned from Hell by the arch-demon to aid him in killing the occupants of the motel and retrieving the ancient artifact. Billy Zane totally steals the show as the charismatic arch-demon, or "Demon Knight" of the title. This really is one of his best roles.
I highly reccommend this flick to any true horror fan. There are piles and piles of horror flicks out there that are just poorly-conceived, derivative garbage. This one stands out as one of the few truly original horror films made during the 90's. The story and plot are there, the pace is there, the thrills and chills are there, the gore is there, and it even throws in a little dark humor in places. Truly an excellent film, and in my opinion a modern classic.
BETTER THAN EVIL DEAD!! CREEPIER THAN NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD!!!!.......2006-10-27
The first and best of the movies from Tales From The Crypt!!!
About the movie: Is pure CREEPY SUSPENSEFULL HORROR with a GREAT INTERESTING story!!! Very easy to understand, cool production, good special effects and pretty bloody gory with some nudity!!!!
I think this movie is a mix of Evil Dead and Night of the Living Dead, but this story is WAY MUCH BETTER than Evil Dead and of course with better acting, cast, quality and special effects. The suspense is very look alike to Night of the Living Dead but of course the make-up is BETTER, no black and white picture and this time the zombies are UGLY demons that are harder to kill.
P.S: The best of all is that the intro is the same as the tv series!!!
Adios.
FUN, ENJOYABLE AND A GRADE ABOVE MANY HORROR FILMS!.......2006-10-09
This is one of those horror films that you would not think would be appealing. Let alone worthy of a four-star rating. However, the fact that this film [a little hokey in many parts] delivers and is one I have myself watched more than a few times, is a worthy addition in the horror genre. This is mainly due to the acting of (Billy Zane). As the primary antagonist in the film, (Zane) is after the key which holds the blood of Christ, and when he gets the key all the humans on earth, living and dead, will be subject to a new world order. An evil world order from the minion's of hell. [yeah I know it sounds silly]. But it works!
However, the main protagonist Brayker (William Sadler), is the holder of this ancient relic, and he had been guarding it for a long time. There have been many holders of this relic throughout time, and each have prevented the demons of hell from getting it. Brayker finds himself holed up in a beat-up and run-down boarding house with some very strange denizens who occupy the place. The film takes off quite fast, as the demonic 'Collector' (Billy Zane) attempts to get the key when he is helped by the local law enforcement. Things wrong [no spoilers] however and (Zane) finds himself battling the occupants and Brayker for the key. He does this by summoning up the demons from hell to help him.
Futhermore, the 'Collector' (Zane) is able to reach into the minds of those who occupy the building, promising them their greatest wish. Brayker warns the others who wish to leave that these are all empty promises. I always thought it would be good to have a part 2 of this episode. As the first one was a pretty good watch. Now I am not so sure. I think it would ruin the first one, which for some reason, I find an enjoyable, funny [and a bit gory] to be pretty darn good. Recommended for those who like the horror genre, even if the film is a little silly, it is very, very good and a very entertaining film. [Stars: 4.5]

Best movie ever!.......2006-01-21
Demon Knight was the bestest movie ever. It is so good. Scary, funny, sad, Billy Zane was the best being both funny and evil. Of course with Bordello of Blood I actually remember liking this movie when I first rented it of course I was probably watching it covering my eyes so it was probably better. But I do like Corey Feldman so that's probably all I liked about this movie. Except for the cryptkeeper. He still rules the school.
Two Tastes That Don't Taste Great Together.......2006-01-14
Well, I've always been a fan of Demon Knight, but for some reason I never picked it up on DVD. I recently got to thinking about how much I enjoyed the flick and decided to finally add it to my collection. Well, I couldn't find it anywhere in a store (didn't have much in the way of credit to buy it online at the time). That's when I came across this baby. I almost didn't buy it because it was paired up with Bordello of Blood (hate that damn flick), but I figured, what the hell? I'll just treat the other flick as a special feature I don't have to watch.
It was nice that Universal put the trailers on this disc. As I recall, the previous versions of Demon Knight on DVD had no extras, but I was a little disappointed with the look of the film. Maybe my memory is failing, but when I used to own this film on laserdisc, the print looked pristine. On the DVD, the film looks pretty solid, but some of the images seemed kinda soft and there were numerous places where I saw dirt in the image. Hmmm...
Well, in any case, it's nice to finally own it on DVD. It sucks that there weren't more extras on it, but I guess this will do for the time being.
5 Stars for Demon Knight/2 Stars For Bordello.......2005-10-22
"Get that pussy off the table!" No, I don't mean Dennis Miller...I mean the cat!
First of all, for clarification, the line above parodies a line uttered by CCH Pounder's character in Demon Knight, and if that line offends you then this DVD set is not for you.
Second, it appears that these two flicks are now available at Amazon only as a set. But for under $20 bucks, how can you complain when you get two flicks for pretty much the price of one. Well, you could complain if you hate Dennis Miller.
Demon Knight: Wonderfully acted, scary, some of the coolest demons in movie making history and of course has the signature dark humor abundant in most Tales From The Crypt stories.
Demon Knight is the story of benevolence pursued by malevolence. The showdown ensues in a halfway-house for derelicts (Jada Pinkett Smith & Thomas Hayden Church among others). William Sadler is the benevolent one charged with the task of protecting a powerful relic. Billy Zane is malevolence, and he is armed with Satan's magic to help him capture the powerful relic and its keeper. Scary, funny, good acting by good actors.
Bordello of Blood: What can I say? For me it was Bored by Bordello of Blood. The opposite of Demon Knight: Not scary. Not Funny. Bad acting by bad actors. Might have worked as one of the shorts in the classic HBO series, but getting motion picture treatment was not warranted. It may have even been a poor attempt to remake the original Kolchak - The Night Stalker. Therefore, if your looking for that kind of flick, go with Kolchak.
All in all, if this set is now the only way to get Demon Knight, by all means hit the Buy button now. Well worth the price.
BOTH OF THESE MOVIES ARE GREAT TO WATCH OVER AND OVER AGAIN!!!!!.......2005-09-19
Tales From the Crypt Present Demon Knight is a great zombie flick it has its scarys and its funny and great acting and it has the hot Billy Zane in it!!!!! Bordello of Blood would have to be a great sexy vampire movie and i think that the acting is amazing both of these horror flicks are a must and you would enjoy these over and over again!!!!!!
Horrible.......2005-09-01
This was the worst movie that I had ever seen. I thought it was a waist of money and time. I did not enjoy any minute of this movie. The movie was really badly made and doesn't have anything remotely good in it. Along side the religious part in the movie did not catch my attention. Thanks.
Although the service is always great at Amazon, that is where I get lots of my movies. I would definetly not allow any children under the age of 16 to watch this movie. And I would ban it altogether.

Above-average cult horror film.......2007-06-13
This film has a very subdued feeling to it which is, I am sure by now, related to the fact that I've been watching the edited version. Despite this, the film is mildly interesting in its storyline, although it seems to borrow somehow from Bava's "Black Sunday." I liked the acting in this film, and I liked the imagery. The zombies were also a bit eerie, without having to do very much at all. I think this qualifies as an above-average cult horror film.

"Horror Rises From the Tomb" is a 70s favorite that used to play heavily edited on Chicago TV. The unrated version of the movie certainly came as a surprise! The DVD includes three versions of the film: the U.S. theatrical release, an uncut international release, and a "clothed" version. The preferred version is the "clothed" one since it's presented in widescreen from a German DVD release, but you'll want to see the unrated one to see how much nudity was removed from the U.S. cut. For the price, this disc is well worth it. If you're a fan of this movie, the DVD is a must.
Naschy's Masterpiece.......2005-01-17
Horror rises from the tomb is one of the greatest Spanish horror films to date. I recommend watching the uncut european version that this DVD collection provides. All of Naschy's horror films are reminicent of the old Universal and Hamer horror films, except they usually have more gore and nudity. Horror rises from the tomb is no exception.
A superb DVD release of an obscure film.......2004-10-22
First of all, I am the type of person that likes to view rare and obscure horror flicks, hence why I bought Horror Rises From the Tomb on a whim. I was totally surprised by the DVD when it arrived. First of all, its a two disc set with three versions of the movie! The first disc contains the international uncut version in Full Screen and a version called the "Clothed" version in Widescreen. The "Clothed" version is easily the best looking of the three version and looks really crisp for a 30+ year old relatively unknown film. Unlike the "uncut" version, the "clothed" version actually contains alternate sequences that have many of the nude women "clothed", and also contains some alternate edits to cut down on the nudity. The "uncut" international version contains all the gore and nudity, but the negative doesn't look near as good as the "cloth" version. It's still easily worth having. The second disc contains yet a third version of the film which is a full screen transfer fo the U.S. cut release. This is easily the worst as it cuts out all the nudity and gore and the negative looks absolutly terrible. There is also a slew of extras included on the second disc including still gallaries, trailers, and bios. All this came housed in a double keep case that slipped nicely in a cardboard slipcase. I was totally blown away that such an obscure film would get released so nicely on DVD, since more popular movies by bigger distributors usually are unleashed in bare bone releases. If your a fan of rare Euro horror flicks such as Tombs Of The Blind Dead and The Beyond, then you will not be disappointed by this DVD release. If Child's Play 3 and Freddy Vs. Jason are what you consider to be difinitive horror films, then Horror Rises From the Tomb won't be your cup of tea.
Distilled essence of Eurosleaze.......2004-07-26
This is my favorite Naschy flick. It's a total boobfest, in every sense of the term. It splices together every Eurohorror cliche (including some choice topless scenes and bad dubbing) into a really fun mess! Example: On the way to a remote castle, our heros are stopped in their cars by a group of highwaymen who intend to rob them. BUT a group of vigilantes from the town catch up with the robbers at that moment, hanging them from a near-by tree. Feeling awkward, our heros leave, continuing towards the castle. This scene doesn't appear to relate to anything else in the movie. Bunuel would have been proud of Carlos Aured.
Negative five stars!

Utter Garbage.......2006-12-03
Zero Stars
This is the sorriest exploitation movie I've ever seen. Watching Captain Kirk snap wasn't even enough to sit through this poorly conceived nonsense for some cheap laughs. This is a PG rated violent flick and Amazon is only selling it for $4.00 LOL! That should tell you everything you need to know.
Name withheld.......2006-10-25
This movie is far more important than the summary may lead one to believe, it also centers on the reality of those who come from violent broken homes and childhoods tend to repeat the cycle, and on and on it goes, it was a very good movie for its time and a stunning social commentary on the results of child abuse to say the least... Watch this movie and learn from it, Shatner turns in a stellar performance and message for us all to wake up to and does it vividly including flashbacks and all. This is serious stuff.

So bad it's good!.......2004-11-07
I had no idea what to expect when I picked up a copy of "Darkest Knight," but I'm a big fan of sci-fi and fantasy movies, so I thought I'd give it a look-see. It was apparent to me from the beginning that it was a TV series, and that this must be a couple of episodes cobbled together to form a feature-length DVD release. I wasn't surprised to find out that it was a New Zealand production...it definitely had the look and feel of a "Xena" or "Hercules" clone, right down to the occasional tropical plant in what was supposed to be an English forest.
All in all, it's really not that bad...well, okay, it's that bad. The acting can be WAY over the top, and the special effects are pretty cheesy by most anybody's standards. But that doesn't stop it from being a completely enjoyable romp. It reminds me of Saturday morning TV shows I used to watch when I was a kid. Sometimes it's fun to just kick back and watch the hero save the day, even if Sir Walter Scott is spinning in his grave right now.
So...skip "Darkest Knight" if you're a purist, but if you want to spend a rainy afternoon with a good "bad" movie, you might actually enjoy this one.
You Must Be A Fan Of The Show.......2004-11-06
The previous review neglected to tell you that (1): you must be a fan of the british show to like this movie. The previous reviews NEVER told anyone that this was the pilot for the show.(THE FIRST TWO EPISODES OF THE SHOW). That information would be helpful to anyone making a decision one way or another to buy this movie. I will admit that as a stand alone movie, "PLAN 9 FROM OUTER SPACE MAY BE BETTER",but then I like "plan 9 from outer space". But when knowing that your getting the British T.V. show, it doesn't look so lame unless your those few who HATED "XENA Warrior Princess". That's ok, PBS runs "MIDSUMMERS NIGHTS DREAM" QUITE OFTEN FOR YOU. For us fan who watched every episode of the British T.V. show having the pilot was not bad to own. What I was yearning to know before I bought the video was if this picked up where the T.V. show left off, I searched the reveiws and none told me this. I bought the DVD and though I didn't get what I was searching for (THE SHOW STARTS FROM THE BEGINNING THE VERY FIRST EPISODE)my wife and I are extremely happy with our purchase. In short, know that Darkest Knight starts at the beginning of the British T.V. series (REGRETABLY) and that if you want to watch something fun, "tounge in cheek" and relaxing you should buy this. If you don't, well Kevin Costner has directed two films for you,"Waterworld and The Postman". Also PBS airs I Claudius and many other high quality, deep thinking shows. Of course they also air shows like "Are You Being Served","Red Dwarf" and "Dr.Who".I guess you people will have to learn to have fun someday.
What a show!.......2004-08-26
This is an amazing show as long as you view it as a TV series, not a movie. Seeing Darkest Knight I, II , and III all in a row is quite entertaining, not to mention that Ben Pullen is very good-looking. The corny graphics, lack of dragons, and other flubs and misfortunes can be taken in good humor and can always be laughed about if the show doesn't appeal to you. Its best to view this as a series, all consecutively and in one day, so it can grow on you.
WHERE WERE THE DRAGONS?.......2004-05-01
There were dragons on the cover...but none in the movie!!! Darn. DARKEST KNIGHT is actually a New Zealand t.v. series, given it's premiere here on DVD, with a follow up called (ta dum)
DARKEST KNIGHT 2. Considering its roots, it's not a bad form of entertainment, just not that exciting. Ben Pullen is one of the most leaden leading men I've seen recently; Charlotte Comer is a beautiful redhead who brings a spark of life into the film; Christopher Neame (Dracula 72AD) is horrendously awful as the wizard Mordour, and the actor who played Odo is good comic relief. The movie's a little lengthy, and even with a few good fight scenes, kept me fidgeting and not riveted. But, for a NZ tv series, not bad.
It's NOT a Movie ... It's a TV Show.......2004-03-14
The terrible reviews of the "movie" Darkest Knight didn't jive with what my husband and I saw when we watched it, so I thought I'd do a bit of research.
The opening scenes and credits struck us both as more like a TV series than a movie -- and it turns out that it's exactly what this is. "Dark Knight" ran for two seasons in New Zealand and England. "Darkest Knight" is the series premiere, turned into a DVD for North American release.
Looked at as a TV show, it's really not THAT bad, certainly no worse than Xena, Hercules or any of the similar semi-historic fantasy shows that were so popular a few years ago. The special effects are impressive for a television show.
Even as a movie, it's not the worse I've ever seen. The production is beautiful (who cares if there aren't palm trees in England, they look nice), the music is good, etc. I've certainly seen worse acting. Want to see something truly unwatchable, check out "Manos, the Hands of Fate" or "Incredibly Strange Creatures who Stopped Living and Became Mixed-Up Zombies", or any of Coleman Francis' films (e.g., "Red Zone Cuba"). Now THOSE are some TERRIBLE movies.

A good ghostly whodunit.......2007-05-10
Who or what was haunting the newly built tract home in suburbia? Victim of the Haunt is a nonfiction account of how one family moved into their new home to find out it was haunted. A local psychic and a mother's love help solve the mystery and one of her children.
Not your typical head spinning, tarted up ghost movie, but a movie that deals with how one family survived a haunting based on their love for one another.

Description
The Crypt Keeper, one of the hardest-working stiffs in show biz, makes his big-scream debut hosting this diabolically funny frightmare that will leave you shrieking for more. Billy Zane is the seductively evil Collector, forever in pursuit of Brayker (William Sadler), a mysterious drifter with an ancient key that holds the power to block the forces of darkness from destroying himanity. In his quest for the key, the Collector conjures up a gruesome cadre of cadavers--who have definitely been out of the freezer too long--to bedevil the inhabitants of a run-down hotel. Armed with sacred blood, automatic weapons and really strong stomachs, Brayker, beautiful, strong-willed Jeryline (Jada Pinkett) and the other hotel boarders must try to defeat the Collector and his fiendish army. Who among them will make it to the mourning light? Watch your backs, boils, ghouls, while you savor this terrorific tale of good vs. evil that boasts awesome special effects, plus the Crypt Keeper's brand of defrightful deadpan humor. You'll die laughing!
