Prudes won't survive a single minute of Martin Lawrence Live: Runteldat, but those who brave the journey will be duly--albeit conditionally--rewarded. This is surely the dirtiest comedy performance ever released to the general public, but beneath his barrage of profanity, crudeness, and unabashed sexual material, Lawrence gets into some serious truth about life's trials and tribulations, to which (he repeatedly observes) none of us are immune. The title's a hip-hop contraction of "run and tell that," and Lawrence runs and tells like a seasoned pro, expounding on his own misdeeds (arrest for disturbing the peace, substance abuse, his heatstroke-induced coma) and mining comedic gold from the hazards of marital candor under the influence of Courvasier. Lawrence is a better actor than a writer--his material's inconsistent, but his delivery is lose-your-lunch hilarious, digging gems of keen observation from life's messiest details. One might wish for greater substance, but Lawrence can runteldat with a righteous guilt-free conscience. --Jeff Shannon

Customer Reviews:
Brutal on a new level.......2007-05-01
I was such a big Martin fan after the TV show and his first comedy album (I actually bought it on cassette tape!) So I eagerly bought this one. It starts very good with a movie like re-cap of his career.
BUT then...
He gets on stage and he seems to think that saying the word Mother Effer is a punchline, because he must say these two words at least twice per sentence on average. It loses its kick very quickly. He just really didn't tell any well put together jokes. It was all attitude and arrogance.
Personally I felt like I was watching a cocky open micer trying to impress everyone by how much he could curse. You don't even hear the audience laughing during the performance.
I laughed for days!!!!.......2007-04-24
i love this movie. He is so funny and it also tells his true story. I highly recommend it!!!!
Surprising good!.......2006-10-23
I guess that I had read so many negative reviews of this show that my expectations were rock bottom when I slipped the disc in the machine and poured myself a Remy. What I saw was a show with a Martin Lawrence who had matured a lot, sharing his reflections on life, making some great observations about politics and society, and, true to form, being downright vulgar (but no more that in "You So Crazy").
There's not many comedians who can evoke so many emotion states and various moods on stage and share so many feelings in a completely uninhibited way - and I love Martin for that. It's a very intimate experience in a way - which as a Brit I love because our stand up comedians are very dry and ironic - which of course is what we do well - but dry comedy lacks a warmth and openess which I yearn for. I guess a lot of reviewers bought this show after seeing Martin in his mainstream movies and then were immediately appalled only five minutes into the show when discusses the various uses of a hole in the throat. Yes, it was tasteless - and those who know Martin's stand up work will be used to this kind of stuff - but for the most part this is a terrific show by a great stand up comedian.
glad he did it again.......2006-04-27
the first special "you so crazy" is very funny.
so i was glad he did it again. this time he was more serious since its about his life.
if you think this dvd sucked then maybe your not a martin fan because it was sort of inside jokes about his life.
its better than his first special in some ways.
anyway. i think the guy is reaaaally funny.
Big Mommas S###House.......2006-01-11
Martin may have some funny enough movies, but as a stand up performer this guy sux. I couldnt bare to sit through anymore then about 20 minutes to half an hour. He was not funny. he sounded more rascist then anything to anyone who isnt black living in America. And he used those cheap patriotic lines standups drowning on stage use for a reaction from the audience.
I cuss and swear alot, but man, this guy litterly can not start a sentence without the word "mother f#%$#a", add it at least twice mid sentence, then end the sentence on "mother f%^#$%a". Man, Eddie Murphy makes a joke on Delirious about Bill Cosby claiming Eddie did nothing but come out on stage, cuss and leave.... but Bill Cosby was dead wrong, Eddie was funny as hell on that. But, if Bill sits down to watch this stupid ML Live DVD, then he can say those exact same words and not have any one object... not even me.
So, to speak this in a way of authentic Martin tounge: Dat Mother-F^%#@N' DVD's absolute mother-F^%$#n' s%$#@house, mother-F#^%$r.
