This one was so bad it didn't even make it as a parody. Buy Shaun of the dead and have something to enjoy! Seriously, don't throw away your money on this one.

1 out of 5 stars An honest review.......2006-02-09

First and foremost, I am a lover and great supporter of independent film.

This story was a great idea, but very badly executed. The first issue is the direction. The direction is very poor and seemingly uninspired. There are no outstanding shots in the film, nor does it in any way attempt to be artistic.

As for the photography, it was filmed digitally in standard NTSC interlace mode. For the most part, the scenes are well lit. There are a few instances of soft focus and framing issues. At a few points, several shots go out of focus telling me the camera was filmed in autofocus mode. I noticed a little artifacting here and there, which could have been removed--why this was not done, I have no idea.

Like other indie films, the audio seems to be a big issue. Audio is something that you don't notice unless it's bad. I don't think any kind of mixer was used during production of this movie. For the most part, it is acceptable--with a few moments of sound drop out and audio peaking.

Editing, editing, editing. Some of the editing is fair, especially when timing certain jokes/gags. There are other times, when dialogue between actors does not flow properly because there are two many beats that should have been edited out. Some of the editing is downright choppy and aesthetically unpleasing.

The acting...well, how good can it be with a title like "Zombie Campout?" It almost sounds as if the actors are reading aloud from a newspaper. The girls in the film never seemed to be truly frightened, and for the most part I consider the best acting to come from the Zombies! The Zombies seemed to be the most committed.

Now for the good... The real strength in the film lies in the writing. The dialogue is quite entertaining, and there are several quotes that stick out in my mind. The writer didn't take it too seriously, and the jokes are simple enough for anyone to enjoy. I think in the hands of the right director, this film would have had a bigger impact in the indie community.

The girls. There are some nice looking girls in this film. Unfortunately, no T & A (which, if it had T & A, could have gotten the film wider distribution) from the girls, which is a slap in the face to genre fans. The director allowed them to refuse nudity, which begs the question: who was running the show?

That said, with the girls being very nice looking, it was offset by two very average looking guys. Weren't there any better looking guys that showed up to the audition? Not to disrespect the the two actors involved, but those girls looked way out of their league.

I have to say, in some weird way, the film is genuinely entertaining. It's fun to make fun of, and it's fun to show other people just to see their reaction. I don't think it's available to rent, and I wouldn't buy it at the current price...but, if you can get your hands on a copy, it's worth watching once.

While I had no clue about movie making, or acting, at the time I gaind so much experience while making this movie.

1. Now and forever I READ the script before accepting a role. Joshua had his work cut out for him: he wrote the script in a week, his director was canned by the 2nd week of production, and his production team left him out to dry. Which is why most of the acting is stale at best, including myself.

2. Always make sure that you have the finances secure BEFORE filming: Joshua's father had a huge problem backing the film, in the end, because there was nudity and the FX guy had a huge battle with Joshua over his payment.

3. Make sure that everyone is on board with your concept. The lack of nudity with Bunny and Tammy was that they had no IDEA, or so they thought that they would actually have to take their tops off, they didn't want to. I understand the decision, but if that was the case then they shold have never been cast.

4. If you tell your actors to pause before starting dialoge and plan to cut/edit the pauses out later, then you should do so, NEVER leave them in, because we all look stupid.

Now for some fun facts:
Trever didn't drive the boat
The car scene's took the longest to shoot
The intermission scene was actually shot, and that was the first day that the principle charaters met the four ladies, no tops!
The film was shot just outside of Flowermound on lake Grapevine.
We shot the interior scenes for the tents and the house at Joshua's house.
Trever farted during two of the breaks of the tent interior shots. Everyone heared it!
The makeout semi-porn scene is a loop.
Trever wore frankenstien shoes to compensate for my height.
The shovel scene that ended up in the movie was the last shot that we did for that sequence, not planned, and I was dog tired after.
The blood mark left in the parking lot, Billy Bob's dead dog, might still be there.
The park ranger was the 'Zombie' trainer.

I would like to thank everyone involved, especially Josh. I hope that he learned his lesson of wearing too many hats. After the first director left there was no drama on the set. The DP was a badass, and I would gladly work with anyone, cast and crew, again. It was a joy to make this movie and I hope that you enjoy it and if you don't then I totally understand, criticism is always welcome.

I don't make a dime if you buy it. But if you do the suggestion has been to watch it with an intoxicated frame of mind.

5 out of 5 stars DEAD funny!.......2005-09-10

This movie is a great gift for anyone that loves funny movies! I am not usually a fan of zombie movies but Mr. Smith brings a "scary movie" feel to the zombie genre. As a film student/blockbuster manager i have seen thousands of movies, and i would have to rate this as one of my all time favorite movies. On that list of all time favorite movies: Top Gun, Napolean Dynomite, Notebook, Crash, and Ray. If you want to see a great movie that is pure fun from the beginning title sequence to the end credits, invest in this movie. You will not be sorry!

3 out of 5 stars It's a campy fun zombie movie.......2005-08-04

I laughed my ass off during this movie. It's up there with Necropolis Awakened in that it's a low budget zombie movie, but better in that the special effects are more meritable...except for the occasional prosthetic arm that flies out every once in a while. The one liners and little humorous bits throughout it are what really make this a fun movie to watch. The cover makes it look like it's a classic '70's T&A horror flic...but there is no T&A in it at all...which was a little disappointing. But still, I had fun watching this movie. : )
