Editorial Review:
Amazon.com
This witty and skillful examination of contemporary celebrity depicts a Canadian girl's rise from teen hockey player to international supermodel, with a sharp, satirical eye at every step along the way. The rise and fall of Tina (real-life model Jessica Paré) is depicted through a cunning intersplicing of fake talk shows, local and international news programs, documentary footage, rock videos, and fashion travelogues. Yet in the process, director Denys Arcand (Jesus of Montreal, Love and Human Remains) still creates characters that--though comic and exaggerated--are sneakily real, including an obsessive restaurateur (Dan Aykroyd), a snobbish ambassador (Frank Langella), and an aloof, calculating agent (Thomas Gibson). Along with well-chosen topical references (from Bret Easton Ellis to Tiger Woods), the movie features many characters suspiciously close to real celebrities, particularly a photographer/documentarian with a marked resemblance to Bruce Weber. Stardom is smart, funny, and ultimately sympathetic. --Bret Fetzer

Mandy Oh Mandy.......2007-04-10
I've been a big fan of Mandy Moore, however back in the early days of DVD I missed out on buying her first DVD release, and was disappointed to find I could no longer buy it from anywhere in Australia. Thank heavens for Amazon!!
The Real Story basically shows various music clips from Mandy's first album, plus interviews with the pop princess on how she started, what she was working on at the time etc. Since this was shot during the release of her first album, she's sporting her good ol blonde locks and is probably 16-18 at the time.
The 50minute DVD keeps you glued to the box, being very entertaining and fast moving. Each segment is seperated by a music video, of which are all top quality.
A must have for Mandy Moore fans.
Fun to watch.......2006-07-30
It's kind of painful to see the unresponsive and indifferent crowds non-responding to her live performances,.. but otherwise this is a very enjoyable DVD. You get to see cute teen Mandy in her pre-acting days and lots lots LOTS of behind the scenes footage of her on tour and making her first album. A lot of the footage is dated in the years of 1999 and 2000 and it helps you remember those great years. Watching this DVD also makes you feel like you're hanging out with Mandy during those fun days.
Really,.. there's footage of everything. You see her at signings at malls,.. performing live,.. at the Hard Rock Cafe ,.. and on TRL and Spring Break as well as behind the scenes of video shoots. If you like Mandy,.. this DVD is a must-have.
Mandy Moore - The Real Story.......2005-09-26
This is a great DVD if you like Mandy Moore. It covers her ealier years with "Candy" and "I Wanna Be With You". It would've been better if it had her "Mandy Moore" album in but it doesn't. Still, it is awesome.
what a gal!.......2005-03-30
I'm sure most people will agree with me, Mandy Moore isn't your typical pop star. First of all, she's too articulate, preternaturally articulate, in fact. Second, she seems grounded, unaffected by all the hullabaloo surrounding most celebrities. Most celebs invite attention to themselves and then later complain of lack of privacy. Mandy just moves around like she's just happy being where she is. And that shows in this video. If I had a daughter, I'd encourage her to make Mandy a role model.
WOW! A Definate For Everyone!.......2004-02-29
Okay, so do you wanna know Mandy Moore? Well, this is the DVD. It shows the very down-to-earth Mandy when she was very young, to 2000. It is great. It features:
"Candy" video
"Walk Me Home" video
"I Wanna Be With You" video
"So Real" video
Mandy Clips when she was a younger child & performing, TRL, Hot
Zone, End Of Summer 2000 Countdown, House Of Blues, & more
Mandy interviews about her first 2 albums
A Trivia Game (If you win, you get to see a "Candy" tour
rehearsel performance)-Very fun game!
10 Photos
A small biography
& much more!!
This came out before her huge multi-platinum "Mandy Moore" & is basically all about her up until about January/February 2001. It is a great DVD for all, and its the T.R.U.T.H.!!!!!!!!!!
Love ya!

Stardom=Shallow=Great Satire.......2005-10-21
The cult of celebrity and beauty is exposed in the blackest humor by Denys Arcand with the hysterical "Stardom." Jessica Pare as Tina Menzel is a vacuous beauty never allowed to be more than pretty face and sexy body. The casting of mostly Canadian actors, Dan Ackroyd (SNL), Thomas Gibson (Dahrma and Greg), and newcomer Pare are ensemble perfection in a scathing parody of entertainment television, expose documentaries, fashion, and confrontational talk shows. Frank Langella (HBO Unscripted) who rarely is seen in comedic roles portrays the stuffy Blaine de Castillion, an aging minor diplomat who marries Menzel, his young trophy wife only to be overthrown for another monosyllabic athletic type.
Menzel as characterized by Pare is the uneducated, unsophisticated, and naive young girl swept to the heights of fashion and celebrity solely by the manipulation of others. She is a victim of both men and women of the vapid fashion and art trade that cashes in at her expense. The modeling world which Tina inhabits is revealed with stunning cinematography as Arcand strips away the layers of commercialism that relies on selling notions of youth and physical perfection like Menzel. No pc topic is overlooked by Arcand who takes a swipe at Canada's First Nation's eco-hype and indigenous spirituality, PETA animal rights fanaticism, heavily accented, and pretentious Toronto ET-like reporters, Canadian ice hockey, and feminist-lesbian-politics -- all with hilarious results.
Gibson as the steely agent for a multinational public relation agency who represents Tina never permits his client to be anything but an innocent yet desirable money-making commodity. Gibson's brief b/w screen time reflected roots of high production cosmetic ads, and with Pare, is beautifully photographed to highlight the couple's physical attractiveness although theirs is the only relationship never consumated. His droll performance is ambiguous and dead on esp. teaching a 400-level Yale course in "Sports and Celebrity Entertainment" and warning students of Millie-Vanilli versus Celine Dion talent spotting.
With little exposure beyond HBO, "Stardom" continues to be true to the reality-TV trend. Yet, it was ahead of its time particularly in forecasting the reactions to full frontal nudity and actress, Meg Ryan that unfortunately have come true. Arcand's film is so subtle with drollness and satire that much of its humor may fly over non-Canadian audience failing to grasp the sources of regional and nationalistic jibes. There are no sacred cows in Arcand's stable, just sharply insider commentary on the cult of celebrity. A film that should be included in every home collection.
Take a look at ourselves!.......2003-11-18
I don't get the world of fashion. It all seems like ridiculous clothes that no one would wear or could afford. Yet it generates millions of dollars a year.
But the makers of Stardom do know enough to make you laugh. This movie is terrific. It's as artsy and pretentious as the people it makes fun of. for example, all the whole movie is seen as footage taken from other filmmakers and tv shows. It mercilessly pokes fun at models, designers, rich people, and fashion.
Overall its a excellent movie with a lot of inovation, good acting, and laughs.
Anything with Jessica Paré in it gets 5 Stars........2002-12-31
Because she is so hot! And smart too.
There's more to a model's life...if you just care to see.......2002-12-29
This masterpiece in disguise comes from the depths of the model industry, and seeps through the life of one model who was a former hockey star. She was discovered, and little did she know, she was going to be taken on a whirlwind of the fashion business. The main character is portrayed greatly by real life model Jessica Pare, she is taken into a world where the truth lies still and she's not exactly ready to handle it all. Instead she dives in headfirst and comes out with not only the aftermath of the business, but the scars that remains within her memories.
This great movie shows you how a model's life is like through the photographer's eyes. He captures intense and entertaining moments of this model's life and most of all, you should understand that this should be a big accomplish for this guy who is filming all of this. It is sort of like a documentary, and interview session mixed in with our views on everyday life for this model. It reminds me of Gia, which was also a movie that brought viewers on a journey through a model's life. Stardom is great to watch, it abandons you, alter your thoughts while you want what she has, but in the end, you should be happy with what you have. Stardom can be exhilarating, yet this movie leaves you an honest trace of what the business and money can do to you. Plus, it shows how many people in this world doesn't take models seriously, all they see is glitz and glamorous.
LIFE IN A GOLDFISH BOWL..........2002-09-12
Deftly directed by Denys Arcand, this is an inventive, highly stylized film about an athletic and beautiful, teenage girl who plays hockey, Tina Menzhal, and her transition to international celebrity and super model. Her life is seen exclusively through the eyes of the various media. This is a fast paced, eclectic, imaginative, and innovative look at a young celebrity and her interactions with those around her, as well as her various romantic relationships. Tina's rise to stardom is shown through a number of media montages. The viewer sees her life progress through the eyes of a camera and the media, at all times, whether it be talk shows, newscasts, a cinema verite documentary, music videos, or fashion shoots. This is a totally engrossing film, as if the viewer were taking a naughty peak into the life of another. It is voyeurism at its best. At the same time, it is a biting, funny, and sad commentary on celebrity life.
Beautiful Jessica Pare, a real life model, is wonderful as Tina, bringing a certain wide-eyed naivete to the role. Dan Ackroyd is very good as the successful restauraneur who, during a midlife crisis, sacrifices his family and his business to be with Tina, only to find himself caught in an obsession that ends badly. Robert LePage is drolly funny as the cameraman who seeks to record every moment of Tina's life. Hunky Thomas Gibson is sensational as Tina's agent, a cooly cynical master of the universe. Frank Langella is terrific as a controlling and urbane diplomat with very set ideas about the role of a wife. The rest of the supporting cast is also excellent. The film alternates between a black and white and color picture, which adds to its overall quirkiness. This Canadian film deserves kudos!

BORING.......2005-07-15
All the time the same song 'if you had my love...." and goes over and over and over.
I bought this dvd thinking that it was the one with the dancing performance (i think that's the 'let's get loud' dvd) and this one sucks.
pretty boring.
Feelin' so good or not?.......2004-12-15
Jennifer Lopez's debut video single "If You Had My Love," featured prominently on this DVD, is pretty good, but the video concept it a little mature for some folks. It begins with a guy getting online and scanning pics of Lopez herself, while looking like he's touching himself - an extremely sexual innuendo there, folks. Other than that, the DVD rocks, but may not be appropriate for children.
She talks a lot.......2004-08-08
This DVD is an introduction to Jenn's "On The 6", includes a lot of things, performances, videos, footage. But this girl talks a lot and that bores you. Anyway, for the content I give it 5 stars
Performances are:
If you had my love (At VH1 Awards)
If you had my love (At Block Buster Awards)
Let's get loud (At Women's World Cup Finals)
Waiting for tonight
Videos are:
If you had my love
No me ames
Waiting 4 tonight (Megamix)
Feelin' so good
Baila
And bonus...
If you had my love (Darkchild Remix) Video not released

Also includes an Exclusive EPK about the album and the singles

For those who need their dose of young actor Leonardo DiCaprio, this two-part documentary disc has plenty of material on the Titanic superstar. The first show, titled Portrait of Leonardo: The Kid Who Took Hollywood, consists of photos, bio, filmography, and interviews with fans, film-industry types, and fellow actors including Claire Danes and Johnny Depp. It also features scenes from DiCaprio's controversial film Don's Plum and has psychological insight on DiCaprio from the ubiquitous Dr. Joyce Brothers.
The second show, Leonardo DiCaprio: In His Own Words, consists of interviews with DiCaprio about his various films, including Titanic, The Man in the Iron Mask, and The Basketball Diaries. Costars such as Billy Zane, Robert DeNiro, and Sharon Stone and director James Cameron also put in their two cents about the talented star. A full two hours on and about this worldwide sensation, this quick-fix DVD fills the order for the most dedicated DiCaprio fans. --Shannon Gee
Description
Leonardo DiCaprio's true rags to riches story - a 23-year-old actor who has become the kind of worldwide sensation seldom equalled in history. An inside look at Leo's life, his movies, and the fans who love him so much.
Customer Reviews:
Outdated.......2005-01-26
For those who wish to see Leonardo in numerous interviews before he starred in The Beach, this is the DVD for you. If you can ignore the 80's-style teeny-bopper music and the interviews with 13-year old fans, the DVD can be an interesting array of information about the star. However, such information comes as much in the form of gossip as genuine research. All in all, the DVD's efforts to portray an accurate picture of the star fall too short of the callibre of his present endeavors and his quality as a current actor and philanthropist.

Is there another star in the history of movies (with the possible exception of Charlie Chaplin's Little Tramp) who was as recognizable, as analyzed, or as much of an icon as Marilyn Monroe? The answer, simply, is no-- and the proof would seem to be in this DVD collection of snippets from the edges of her career. "A Collector's Dream" is how they bill the section of the video program devoted to trailers from Monroe's films--including films such as "Love Nest" and "Let's Make It Legal," in which she barely appears--and it's hard to imagine anyone but a Marilyn completist being satisfied by this disc. The trailers are notable mostly for how much of the movie they show. But they account for the bulk of the video content on this disc, along with approximately half an hour of newsreel footage of Monroe, which is the real find here. Aside from the footage itself from those pre-infotainment days, the newsreels are an intriguing peek into the way news was disseminated during the decade when TV was coming of age. The package also includes a lengthy audio section, containing all of the songs Monroe sang in films (most of which are available elsewhere on CD). --Marshall Fine
Description

GREAT MARILYN MONROE DVD!.......2007-03-11
This is a wonderful example on DVD about "Marilyn's" life.
Highly recommended.
We need a all music DVD of Marilyn!.......2004-09-02
I havn't watched this DVD yet but I think it is the same as "Marilyn at the Movies" dvd. The problem is I have is , I want to see a dvd on Marilyn that has all her singing proformances on one dvd from all the films. This is a great idea to include any and all rare footage to go along. Many fans like myself want to see Marilyn sing, for me that was some of the most entertaining parts of her movies. It also wouldn't hurt to include the rare footage of her singing to the troops if there is any. I have only seen her singing "Dimonds" on one short but wonderful clip. Please release more for the musical side of the Goddess on DVD!!
very enjoyable but...........2002-03-19
I found this DVD very enjoyable but not as thorough as I had expected. I thought the newsreels were very good but I wish they had included more rare footage, like screen tests, wardrobe tests, commercials and other footage that turn up on numerous documentaries. The collection of movie trailers were great but again some were missing (There's No Buisness Like Show Buisness), and some were of really bad quality (Bus Stop). The audio part of her studio recordings were excellent and thorough, with the best fidelity I've heard so far on CD, unfortunatly I was unable to play it on my CD player as I had hoped. All and all, worthwhile but not as "complete" as they say.
Worth the price.......2001-10-18
I purchased this DVD over a year ago and still see it frequently. First of all, I had never seen some of the newsreels before and it's interesting to see the 1952-1962 newsreels on Marilyn because the commentators look at her in a totally different way than we do. Today we see MM as a tragic goddess, but back then the reporters saw her as a "hot tomato." Also, the trailers are fascinating and you can select to run them all together--which is nice. I also loved the audio tracks because I always enjoy hearing MM's sensual voice. If you're a huge MM fan (as I am), you won't regret adding this to your collection.
OVERALL....DISSAPOINTING.......2001-05-07
I would not have purchased this DVD had i know what was on it. The best part are the Newsreels but here is a lot of familiar footage also. There are only a few, often seen pictures and movie posters,a large selection of Marilyn's songs from her movies (mostly) and a lot of movie trailers. Standard stuff.

THIS SUCKS!!!!!.......2004-11-13
DO NOT waste your cash!!! I love Alicia Keys and actually worked on several of her sessions as a studio musician, she's lovely I might add. The use of her name on this DVD is embarrassing!!!! The same still photos (that look like they were photoshoped from tabloid magazines) are flashed OVER and OVER again, and there is "commentary" from a bunch of jokers whose titles and credits are never made known...and who surely don't know Alicia or even work in the entertainment business. To make a DVD this bad should be a carnal sin...buy the real deal, ANYTHING WILL BE BETTER THAN THIS!
glad i didn't buy this.......2003-10-27
This would've been one for the collection, except it's AWFUL. I'm SO glad I watched this one before ordering. Alicia Keys has so much more to offer than shown here. I didn't even watch the whole thing before packing it up and sending it back. The production was terrible. And who were these people giving commentary? I, too, will wait for the official release.
Total .....!.......2003-08-22
Don't waste your money on this trash. I swear it seems as if the friends of the makers were the people giving commentary, not "insiders", or experts. These folks couldn't even formulate a proper sentence. This is a total effort to take Alicia's fans for their money. Alicia acknowledged this DVD herself in one of her own Diary entries at her site. It's rubbish.
Not even loose your time.......2003-06-03
Don't expect much of this boring DVD. Its mostly a never-ending slide-show with still photographs of Alicia, and an off-narration about how great her whole life and carrer is. It features a couple of interviews with people you have no clue as of who they are, and the few minutes of live footage of Alicia playing is during a collective interview where she shows-off to a bunch of reporters by playing and singing parts of various songs and classical pieces. Funny how some people can make easy money these days with such a poor production. I slept over it many times...

Product Description
Tina (Jessica Pare), a na ve tomboy, gets plucked from hockey-playing obscurity to become the super model of the media-mad world. Tina's rise and fall from stardom is captured by the paparazzi that hound her day and night, and is aided by her sleazy manager (Thomas Gibson). Along the way she has no qualms about using and discarding a series of older men, including a married restauranteur (Dan Akroyd) and a ruthless Canadian Ambassador (Frank Langella). Each guided step in her career ups the ante as she begins to cash in on her fame, but one day fate gives Tina a reality check and she finds herself asking one burning question: is it possible to be beautiful, rich, famous and happy too?

Customer Reviews:
Stardom=Shallow=Great Satire.......2005-10-21

Vincent Price and Tab Hunter star in this entertainingly silly adventure. Very, very loosely based on Edgar Allan Poe's "City in the Sea," War-Gods of the Deep starts off just right, with a stormy night and a huge old mansion by the sea. Before you know it, everyone is charging through secret passages and swimming around in enormous diving helmets. The plot zips along nicely, and the cast of pros knows just what to do with it. By this point in his career, Vincent Price could do tragic brooding menace with both hands tied behind his back, but he still puts his all into it like a champ. David Tomlinson also does a great job as half of a comic relief team--the other half being an uncredited chicken. This may not be a story for the ages, but it's not a bad way to spend an evening. -Ali Davis
Customer Reviews:
Poe meets Jules Verne (sort of...).......2006-07-28
For once, I found myself in agreement with every other reviewer here. Read 'em all, they know whereof they speak!
Having just polished off all 8 Roger Corman POE films (plus CASTLE OF BLOOD), I set my sights on this, hoping it might turn out better than I remembered. As it happens, it was EXACTLY as I remembered. Can't win 'em all. AIP refused to let their POE series end with Corman's departure, and plowed on. There does seem to be a lot of talent involved here... except, like the 3rd season of LOST IN SPACE, it feels like it was shot from a 1st-draft script that could have used a LOT of extra work.
The story, involving a seaside mansion, secret tunnels, underground caverns, and a secret "world" lorded over by a megalomaniacal madman will no doubt remind the viewer of several other films, most of which are better than this one. Using a POEM as a jumping-off point (they'd done it before with THE RAVEN) this seems to borrow ideas from such Jules Verne stories as JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH, THE MYSTERIOUS ISLAND, and perhaps others less well known. Price is classic as always, though his character shows virtually no admirable qualities. Tab Hunter seems to be walking thru the picture. Susan Hart is a DOLL, but gets VERY little to do. I like David Tomlinson, generally... just NOT HERE. He's annoying, and so is his chicken, oddly named Herbert (is that a reverse on "A Boy Named Sue"?). John Le Mesurier, who I've seen in many films & tv shows, actually gets a chance to exhibit more depth and emotion in his brief scenes as the long-kidnapped preacher than I've ever seen from him, and perhaps more than anyone else in the film!
I often get frustrated with characters like Price's "Captain" who simply CAN'T be reasoned with. He issues Tab Hunter an IMPOSSIBLE task and deadline, then quickly condemns him to a watery grave. (Was anyone surprised?) He kidnapped Susan Hart because she's a DEAD RINGER for his long-dead wife. While a staple of late-model DRACULA films (including those with Gary Oldman, Frank Langella AND William Marshall), I wonder where this idea really originated, as the earliest use of it seems to be the 1932 Karloff classic, THE MUMMY.
While the basic premise is interesting, the cast adequate, and the sets & props excellent, the writing drags it down unforgiveably, leaving no room for the director or the actors to go with it. I was also confused by the layout of the tunnels (considering how important they were to the plot, it's a point of confusion that should have been better handled). And of course, the climactic underwater action scenes are just impossible to follow. (This is no THUNDERBALL-- made the same year!) A shame... this makes THE PREMATURE BURIAL look like 5 stars by comparison!
War Gods, what are they good for? Absolutely nothing, uh huh.......2004-04-22
In an effort to determine what exactly went wrong with War Gods of the Deep (1965) aka City in the Sea, I looked at the individuals involved in bringing this film to life. The story is based on an Edgar Allen Poe poem, The City in the Sea, so it had good roots. The director, Jacques Tourneur, seems quite accomplished, at the very least prolific, directing scads of films and television shows from the 30's all the way into the 60's. Let's look at the writers...Charles Bennett, well, he appears to be a very capable writer, responsible for a few films I've really enjoyed like The Man Who Knew Too Much (1934) and The 39 Steps (1935). Let's see, who is the other writer? Louis M. Heyward? The schlock producer/writer responsible for such films like Pajama Party (1964), Sergeant Dead Head (1965), and Ghost in the Invisible Bikini (1966)? Oh bruther...Oh wait, I also see he was a production executive for KISS Meets the Phantom of the Park (1978)...I think I've found the weak link in this production.
The film stars Vincent Price as The Captain, 50's teen heart throb (also known as 'the sigh guy') Tab Hunter as Ben Harris, Susan Hart (who was married at the time to James H. Nicholson, one of the founders of the AIP, the studio that released this film...big mystery as to how she got the part here...) as Jill Tregillis, English character actor David Tomlinson as the foppish Harold Tiffin-Jones, and Herbert, the chicken...yes, there is a chicken in this film, and it did get a screen credit at the end.
Okay, the film opens pretty well, with a dark and stormy night and a large, isolated manor house/hotel on a secluded Cornish coast, sitting on the edge of a high cliff before the raging sea. A body washes onto the shore, and some locals discover it's a lawyer who is assisting American Jill Tregillis manage the transition of an estate from a recently passed relative...I think...the finer points of the story got a little muddled, and continued to do so throughout the film. Ben Harris, and American geologist (I think) gets involved, for whatever reason, and goes to tell Jill that her lawyer (or barrister, as I think they are referred to in good old England) has bit the proverbial big one. No one seemed particularly put out by this fellow's demise, giving me the impression that the English feel the same about their legal professionals as we do in the states. Here we meet one of the residents of the house, an artist named Harold Tiffin-Jones, and his pet chicken named Herbert. Why does he have a pet chicken? Well, I didn't get the impression he was married, so draw your own conclusions. After Ben has a slight skirmish with a mysterious intruder, he finds that Jill is missing, so he, Harold, and Hubert investigate. They find a secret passage, one that leads to caves and such beneath the manor, and find a giant whirlpool, to which they promptly fall in...what a couple of goons...and awaken in the city underneath the sea...oh bruther...
Some stuff happens, barely, and the boys (and the chicken) meet The Captain. Seems many moons ago the city was a land based one, but fell into the sea, pulled there by an underwater volcano. The residents at the time, being very smart, fashioned machines and such to enable them to continue to live in their city, but weren't smart enough just to just leave the city as it was sinking...and now The Captain is the leader, king, whatever, of the now remnants of this once great city, and is desperately searching for a way to save the city from the increasingly active volcano that threatens their existence, sending fish men and such to the surface to steal books, kidnap people, whatever, all in a means to try and stave off disaster. Yes, there are fish men, who aid the humans in the city underneath the sea for some reason or other. Why? I haven't the slightest idea... Why don't the humans just leave the city, you ask? I wondered that myself... Well, living in the sea has been a sort of blessing as well as a curse, extended their lives to highly un-natural lengths, but has rendered them highly susceptible to the ultra-violet rays of the sun in that prolonged exposure would cause rapid aging followed by death. Why kidnap Jill? Because she bears an uncanny likeness to The Captain's deceased wife...oh bruther...
War Gods of the Deep actually has some pretty good-looking sets and gave a glimmer of hope that was soon extinguished as the plot unfolded. As far as the source material is involved, Price does have some voice-over with him reading passages from the Edgar Allen Poe poem, but that's about it...Vincent Price and David Tomlinson are fun to watch, but really can't help save this drecky mess. Tab Hunter and Susan Hart are obviously thrown in for eye candy, as neither seems entirely capable of pulling off their respective characters. This film seems to try to do for Edgar Allen Poe's poem what Journey to the Center of the Earth (1959) for Jules Verne's story, even borrowing elements from that much better film, replacing the goose from the film with a chicken. Too bad it didn't work. Oh, and I can't finish without mentioning the drawn-out underwater scenes that tried to create all kinds of suspense and tension, but due to the fact that movement is restricted and everyone moves, in effect, slow motion, these scenes had quite the opposite effect, and will probably prompt the viewer to be looking for the fast forward on the remote.
The wide screen print here looks okay, with a few blemishes, and there is a trailer, but that's it for special features, unless you count the availability of French and Spanish subtitles.

SO BAD IT'S, WELL, BAD.......2002-04-19
With little fanfare, MGM has quietly transferred a handful of great B films to DVD that they not too arbitrarily categorize as "Midnight Movies." The nice looking digital prints are in their original theatrical format and appear as if they were taken from original material. The discs come with no substantial extras but care has been lavished on the box art, often reflecting the lurid lobby cards and posters of their initial release. Even acknowledging the B category, these are for the most part well-crafted and, well, adequately acted.
In "WAR GODS OF THE DEEP," the late and much-lamented Vincent Price co-stars with 50s pretty boy Tab Hunter in an adaptation of an Edgar Allan Poe story that pits he-men against gill-men with sexy Susan Hart caught in the middle.
See, Price is uberlord of a lost underwater city (apparently built by a low bid papier mache developer), and he's got gillgoons that kidnap landubbers. The second half is a showdown between brave humans and slimy fishmen with an angry, about to blow volcano towering over everything. ...
This gets 3 stars 'cause Vincent Price and Edgar Poe had a hand in it.
Enjoyable and Visually Appealling Film.......2002-01-04
Although the story-telling and pacing leave a lot to be desired, this is a nice addition to the very collectible MGM Midnite Movies series. Great sets, locations, and actors (Vincent Price, whom many would pay to hear him recite his laundry list) make this a very visually appealing film. I disagree with Maltin's comment about the "shoddy underwater city". For its time, the visual effects (with the notable exception of the gill-men ), sets, and props were impressive. Try it out and see for yourself.
IT SINKS!!.......2001-12-16
As a storm rages outside a creepy old mansion on a clifftop, lovely Susan Hart is kidnapped by a half-fish/half-man creature and taken to Vincent Price's undersea lair. Tab Hunter, David Tomlinson and Herbert The Chicken (who gets a special screen credit at the end) go to rescue her. I wont say any more about the plot in case you want to check this out for yourself. I thought the movie was not campy, outrageous nor exciting enough to be anything more than a pleasant Sunday-afternoon time-killer. Director Jacques Tourneur has done some great stuff in the past (like Curse Of The Demon)and I was hoping for more thrills....oh well! Vincent Price just walks through this one having nowhere near as much fun as he does in some of the other AIP Poe adaptations and in Dr Goldfoot and the Bikini Machine (also with Susan Hart). The DVD itself has great artwork, a nice letterbox print and good sound plus a trailer.

Hoped for more than this!.......2001-04-22
I bought this DVD based on the one and only review wrote here. I really hoped there's going to be something big in it. Especially after seeing that all who bought Banned from TV & America's Funniest Uncensored bought this DVD as well. But to tell you the truth it was disapointing!
Ok yes some celebs where worth catching on this DVD... but in most parts it is boring plus you cannot see it more than once! So maybe it's worth renting it but not buying it!
In the end, you see that celebs do deserve privacy of their own and any of us if we were in their shoes we'd be very frustrated.
The best part is of Pamela Anderson & Her Ex..! There are so many celebs that I wanted to see where not in this DVD...
In other words, don't hold your breath!
Celebrities: Caught on Camera.......1999-11-22
I thought this dvd was great. You get to see a side of the celebrities that they hide from the puplic. It lets you see that Celebrities are just as human as well as myself. Even though the paparazzi does egg them on it was a neat experience.
