I recently became a fan of House throughout the course of the 3rd season, and needed to catch up. The two-season set of DVD's was perfect for me. It was an excellent price compared to what the two would be individually in the store. I am only half way done but so far, Dr. House has lived up to my expectations. I recommend this show to anyone!

Well, what can I say about this DVD set.. You get the best of Dr. House in season 1 and 2 and you will enjoy every second of it. In top of all the episods from the season 1 and 2, you get alot of bonus stuff like bloopers and set tour etc. I really enjoyed the DVD collection and it is most deff a good buy...

The box was crushed, had sharp plastic shards from the casings falling out and 2 of the discs are defective and I was unable to watch. Other than that, the product arrived quickly as promised.

What I want to comment about is the price for both of these together. This is an awesome deal, fellow amazon users, because I paid this much for just Season One. So, if you're thinking about buying these, well, go ahead! Kudos to you for saving more money than I!

The overall strength of the second season of House, M.D. proves that its first-year success wasn't a fluke. This season starts with Dr. House (Golden Globe winner Hugh Laurie) pursuing his ex-wife Stacy (Sela Ward) and ending with a tragedy that could potentially be deadly for himself and two colleagues. The premise of each show follows a set routine--a patient is brought in with unusual symptoms; House challenges his trio of underlings to diagnose the problem; they treat the patient, usually incorrectly the first few tries; and then at the very last minute--through a revelation that often has little to do with the patient--House figures out what's wrong and saves the day. It would be easy for this set up to grow old fast. But because of the smart writing, nuanced acting, and believability of the characters (who're often dealing with unbelievable scenarios), the formula works on each of the 24 episodes that aired on Fox during the 2005-2006 season. Viewers have been conditioned by the Marcus Welbys of the TV world to think of doctors as saviors. Even on ER, the most narcissistic physician was selfless at heart. But House is a different breed. When he's at an off-track betting parlor and a woman collapses, he doesn't miss a beat. Still eying his race on television, he asks, "Is anybody here a doctor?" He'll mock a sick patient's complaints with a sarcastic, "Boo hoo!" And, if there happens to be a dead body around, he has no qualms about shooting it if he believes that could help diagnose another gun-shot victim.

Not that he's any more reasonable or compassionate to his boss Cuddy (Lisa Edelstein), his oncologist best friend Wilson (Tony winner Robert Sean Leonard), or his young charges Foreman (Omar Epps), Cameron (Jennifer Morrison), and Chase (Jesse Spencer). He instructs his doctors to break into patients' homes as if they're cat burglars. He does not know the meaning of the phrase "politically correct." But because he spits out insults (as if he has a mild case of Tourette's) equally to both his patients and colleagues, the latter never flinch at his constant stream of inappropriateness. When his three young doctors storm into his office to report the declining condition of a patient by blurting out, "We have rectal bleeding," House says, "What? All three of you?" To sensitive Wilson, who is trying to get some work done without being interrupted, House says, "I know you're in there. I can hear you caring." And when Foreman's father says, "My son says you're a manipulative bastard," House replies, "It's a pet name. I call him Dr. Bling." Of course House actually does care about his patients, but he views a good bedside manner as the luxury of a doctor who has a healthy patient. Hot House!.......2007-06-16

Mea culpa. I'll admit it. I happened upon House mid-second season. Little did I know within a year I'd be hooked, desperate for my weekly fix of the wickedly attractive yet insanely abrupt!

Who needs mind-altering drugs when the creative symbiosis of David Shore/Bryan Singer/Katie Jacobs and the rest of their mojo-magic crew sets lovably perverse genius Hugh Laurie loose opposite affably earnest Robert Sean Leonard to do what only they can do?

Um, taut innuendos, anyone? Unlike some TV actors who can't even eat a sandwich sans cue cards, the talented duo's bickering camaraderie scarfs up the subtext of both female and male dreams. House/Wilson is Greek theater being played out by the American Medical Association's Monty Python Repertory company atop a world stage while perched precariously upon a high wire. With no net, yet. Bravo.

Even though Fox reruns their reruns and USA, too, it's looking like a long, hot, steamy summer until The Boys & Co. are back in town.

Until then, I am happy to write The House Blogs! AND House-sit Seasons 1 and 2, for there is a there that is destination worthy until the arrival of the medical narrative's Season 3 on DVD, due out in late August. For in a spectacle to savor when last we saw the low GQ-high IQ Dr. Gregory House, he was running his long lithe fingertips oh-so-gently about the sleek glossy curves of his new musically acoustic lover, virtually about to pluck her into ecstasy, and therein lies my other "problem" with this unquestionably brilliant show:

Gulp. I like this man far, far too much.

A great second season, got rid of the annoying boss and got some wierd and disturbing cases to deal with that bring out more in Hugh Laurie's character as well as the strenghts and weaknesses of his team and his friends and enemies. A really interesting twist on the standard medical drama standard.

He pops pills, watches soaps, and always, always says what's on his mind. He's Dr. Gregory House (Emmy nominee Hugh Laurie, Blackadder). Producers David Shore, Bryan Singer, Katie Jacobs, and Paul Attanasio haven't rewritten the hospital drama--at heart, it's a cross between St. Elsewhere, ER, and C.S.I.--but they've infused a moribund genre with new life and created one of TV's most compelling characters. More than any previous medical procedural, it resembles Attanasio's underrated Gideon's Crossing, but House is lighter on its feet. As fascinating as he is, the show wouldn't work as well if it were all House all the time (that would be like Sherlock Holmes without Watson or Moriarty). Fortunately, he's joined by an intriguing cast of characters, portrayed by a combination of experienced vets (Omar Epps, Lisa Edelstein, Tony winner Robert Sean Leonard) and new faces (Jennifer Morrison, Jesse Spencer). Aside from the complicated cases they tackle each week, the sparks really fly when House's brilliant, if naïve charges are put to the test--and as the head of a teaching hospital, it's his job to test them (although his tough love approach is constantly landing him in hot water with Edelstein's administrator). From the first episode, House attracted a talented array of guests, including Robin Tunney ("Pilot"), Joe Morton ("Role Model"), and Patrick Bauchau ("Cursed") as Spencer's father. In addition, Chi McBride and Sela Ward appear frequently (with Ward returning for the second season). Viewers who first watched these 22 episodes on Fox will be gratified to note that the music has survived the transition to disc, such as the Rolling Stones' "You Can't Always Get What You Want," as featured in both the pilot and season finale ("Honeymoon"). House Lives Up to its Hype...and THEN some!.......2007-06-16

House MD's Creator/Executive Producer David Shore, in this week's New York Times, sends a polite tip of his hat toward the Sopranos' David Chase's refusal to tip his hand. "Obviously, he wants us to speculate on what it all means," reasoned Shore with regard to that sudden fade-to-black-did-my-cable-just-go-out finale. "Obviously that's what we're all doing."

Well, not all. Not since House premiered!

Thanks to Shore and his bloody talented crew, I'm not the least bit interested in mulling over whether Tony, Carmela, Meadow and A.J. ever made it out of that cozy family restaurant. Truthfully, I thought that last episode, with its multi-layered symbolism and Journey's Don't Stop Believing blasting on the juke box--jeez, such subtlety--was one big drawn-out, overhyped cartoonish bore.

Compare/contrast Chase's surprisingly stereotypical swan song to Omerta and ho-hum homage to the Godfather with House's quirky central themes according to Shore: "[R]esults vs. intentions and rationality vs. emotions. What's more important: kindness or truth? What are people hiding either knowingly or unknowingly?"

And whereas the Sopranos' huge cast of characters grew ever larger than life--some might even go so far as to say they ballooned into caricatures of themselves--Shore's carefully constructed House, Wilson, Cuddy, Cameron, Foreman, and, er, Chase, have been so subtlely fleshed out from day one, and with such heart-rending care that rapt viewers might suffer weekly cardiac risks.

House MD's deep interpersonal plot devices [kudos Katie Jacobs!] also rise amidst their dearth on cable and network TV. Shall we savor Season 1 and then fast forward to the next to last episodes of Season 3? "Family." [Such delicious irony]. One brother must suffer for another. Wilson's dog trashes House's cane. "Resignation." Forman fears turning into House's cranky clone. House and Wilson both secretly dose each other's coffee. "The Jerk." Forman's potential job is sabotaged. And House MD's Season Finale? "Human Error." On Forman's last day, House fires Chase, Cameron quits. House's life--if one could even call it that--is once again in total disarray.

Buy this DVD. In fact, buy all three! Do not hesitate. Do not wait!

Look out, HBO. And Showtime. ABC. CBS. NBC. Fox doesn't need a lead-in to bolster its ratings anymore. On Tuesday nights, at 9:00 pm, the surviving members of another dysfunctional House is America's favorite home.

House, M.D is a brilliant tv series. Dialogues and scripts are excellent, all the actors are pretty good (especially Robert Sean Leonard) and, for those who like medical stuff, there're always interesting cases. Hugh Laurie is just perfect: his performance as a funny, clever, cynical and horribly misanthropic doctor makes the series unique. Two well-deserved Golden Globes.

Although it's not as bold as Oscar darling Chicago, The Phantom of the Opera continues the resuscitation of the movie musical with a faithful adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webber's blockbuster stage musical. Emmy Rossum glows in a breakout role as opera ingénue Christine Daae, and if phantom Gerard Butler isn't Rossum's match vocally, he does convey menace and sensuality in such numbers as "The Music of the Night." The most experienced musical theater veteran in the cast, romantic lead Patrick Wilson, sings sweetly but seems wooden. The biggest name in the cast, Minnie Driver, hams it up as diva Carlotta, and she's the only principal whose voice was dubbed (though she does sing the closing-credit number, "Learn to Be Lonely," which is also the only new song).

Director Joel Schumacher, no stranger to visual spectacle, seems to have found a good match in Lloyd Webber's larger-than-life vision of Gaston LeRoux's Gothic horror-romance. His weakness is cuing too many audience-reaction shots and showing too much of the lurking Phantom, but when he calms down and lets Rossum sings "Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again" alone in a silent graveyard, it's exquisite.

Those who consider the stage musical shallow and overblown probably won't have their minds changed by the movie, and devotees will forever rue that the movie took the better part of two decades to develop, which prevented the casting of original principals Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman. Still, The Phantom of the Opera is a welcome exception to the long line of ill-conceived Broadway-to-movie travesties.

DVD Features
The special edition of The Phantom of the Opera has two major extras. "Behind the Mask: The Story of The Phantom of the Opera" is an hourlong documentary tracing the genesis of the stage show, with interviews of composer Andrew Lloyd Webber, director Harold Prince, producer Cameron Macintosh, lyricists Richard Stilgoe and Charles Hart, choreographer Gillian Lynne, and others. Conspicuously absent are stars Sarah Brightman and Michael Crawford. Both do appear in video clips, including Brightman performing with Colm Wilkinson at an early workshop, and Crawford is the subject of a casting segment. Other brief scenes from the show are represented by a 2001 production. The other major feature is the 45-minute making-of focusing on the movie, including casting and the selection of director Joel Schumacher Both are well-done productions by Lloyd Webber's Really Useful Group.

The deleted scene is a new song written by Lloyd Webber and Charles Hart, "No One Would Listen," sung by the Phantom toward the end of the movie. It's a beautiful song that, along with Madame Giry's story, makes him a more sympathetic character. But because that bit of backstory already slowed down the ending, it was probably a good move to cut the song. --David Horiuchi
