3 out of 5 stars A Light Comedy that Happens to be from Germany........2006-11-02

The film is primarily a comedy, but it is also a "Chick Flick" at the same time. In this essence, it's a well balanced film; although predictable. "Advertising Rules!" doesn't throw any curves at you. It follows the traditional format that we see here in the states everyday. Boy meets girl, boy makes mistake, lies to girl, girl leaves him, he finds success but looses girl, make reprimands gets girl back and lives happily every after. In fact, plot wise, the story follows the movie "In Good Company" almost exactly

The character Viktor Vogel is very likable; all the characters are likeable in fact. I would like to note that the character Kaminski (Viktor's Boss in the beginning), is a little underdeveloped. However, I felt as if I could relate to each of the Characters.

This is a good watch if you are looking for a light, empty calorie romantic comedy. Aside from the loveable characters, I would like to appreciate the soundtrack, offering tracks from American classics, and the music by Minus 8.

Don't be fooled, this film is not an "office comedy" such as NBC's "The Office," or "Office Space." This movie is good, but no better than your average American film. I like it, but I'm not sure why it made it all the way to my local Hollywood Video.

The Film is rated "R" for the use of the "F-Word" occurring twice in the subtitles. The Disc of the DVD reads "Not Rated" while the case reads, "R"

4 out of 5 stars Totally delightful movie (and soundtrack info...).......2006-01-24

This is a delectable movie. The Viktor Vogel character is hilarious, yet believable. I couldn't help laughing out loud at the way he lived into the lies (the resume embelishments, etc), which eventually caught up with him. Makes you question the validity of the mantra... "fake it 'til you make it." I couldn't help but root for him as the underdog in the cut throat world of advertising where personalites with oversized egos will do anything to make a buck.

To the person who wanted info about the sountrack... The song is "Sometimes" by "Minus 8" aka Robert Jan Meyer. This song is on his Minuit album (try iTunes).

4 out of 5 stars Soundtrack HELP PLEASE!.......2005-11-19

I enjoyed this movie more as an advertising student than the average person my age would have to be sure....It had its funny moments and managed to entertain me all while watching certain aspects of the business I study come to life...(Wielding chainsaws and such taken with a grain of salt)

Okay...If anyone can help me with this I will be thrilled...I love the opening song on the main DVD menu page...Does anyone know where I can find it? I believe it's entitled Sometimes...but no searches grab anything...I have no idea as to who the artist is..Can anyone help? Thanks....

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic, Funny Movie.......2003-04-03

As a German Studies student, I am constantly looking for new films to watch to practice language. It is particularly nice when the film is a good one. This film does not take itself too seriously, but it does have a heart, and parts are laugh-out-loud funny. The female lead in this movie is a cutie-pie, and the supporting cast is fantastic. You will appreciate this movie more if you understand German, but even if you don't, there are plenty of good sight gags. I am glad some recent German filmmakers have learned that movies don't all have to be grim and existential. Film can entertain as well.

1 out of 5 stars this movie was awful.......2003-01-03

I lived in Berlin for several years and there are some great German comedies, but this is not one of them. The fact that it made it to an american video store led me to believe it would be pretty good, but it was horrible.
