2 out of 5 stars It tries to educate.......2006-10-09

THe book is terrific but the movie feels like a not well done telenovela, every scene is about a dramatic cry. Feels like a movie for little kids. THe story is in itself a lesson but the movie is not. Good photography but as a movie it looks like a the pieces of a one year telenovela cut in pieces. THere are better Chilean movies, this is not one of them.

5 out of 5 stars Masterpiece of the Chilean cinema.......2006-05-02

4 out of 5 stars Super models love guts!!!.......2004-07-02

Super models love guts, and I love the super models that eat 'em.

Clement's Meat Market films got me interested in 'Binge and Purge'--if you liked the other films, you will like this one. If you don't like low budget, cookie cutter production-made movies, go away, this isn't for you...don't spoil it for everybody else.

The beginning is slow, but the last half hour is redeeming. The super models are lookers, the gore is interesting at parts (especially the scene where the cop punches through someone's head). It took a few turns to like this movie, but over time, it grew on me.

--one of the best parts is when the guy pukes on the janitor's face and melts it, then eats his eyeball and says, "Mabye it's Maybalene."--classic, just classic.

4 out of 5 stars FANTASTIC EFFORT! **SPOILERS**.......2003-12-05

Ever wonder how runway super models stay so thin and youthful? Are you always looking for that wonder diet? Brian Clement has your answers. Become a cannibal!

BINGE & PURGE tells the story of a plague. A plague that was brought to America from Spain in the 1930's. (The history of the plague is beautifully told in the opening scene). This plague turns ordinary people into flesh eating cannibals.

Meet the Helfringer girls. A group of models under the supervision of fashion designer Karl Helfringer. These girls are infected with the disease and are feeding their disease by picking-up homeless people, magazine reporters, and anyone else they can find and eating them.

Three detectives are on the case to try to discover why people are missing and why bodies are being found half eaten. They have another nemesis, "The Captain". "The Captain" is the head of the local police department and is also infected by the plague and by about 700 kilos of cocaine! So needless to say, "The Captain" has another agenda.

All the elements and characters of the story mesh well together to bring forth a very good movie. Brian Clement knows how to tell a story with visuals and mood.

A couple of scenes were stand-outs:

"The Captain" at his desk snorting LARGE amounts of cocaine. (Obviously inspired by SCARFACE). He is watching a video tape that he found at a crime scene of a now dead super model named Cammy washing her scantily clad body in a tub. The camera cuts back and forth between the coke snorting antics of "The Captain" to the beautiful Cammy in the tub. This mixed with an eerie version of the Christmas classic, We Wish You A Merry Christmas, playing in the background and outstanding lighting which make the mood extremely intense. The scene comes to a climax as "The Captain" takes in an enormous amount of coke, Cammy in the tub, the music gets louder, and then we see the red dot of a laser scoped gun on the forehead of "The Captain". BAM! He is shot in the head.

Another scene shows the Helfringer girl named Audrey preparing some tasty treats. What makes this scene stand-out is that director Brian Clement presents it as a cooking show from the 60's. Audrey speaks to the camera in a Martha Stewart manner and very politely shows you how to prepare the guts of a human being for a scrumptious treat. It sounds crazy, I know, but trust me this scene rocks!

For the gore fans out there, you will not be disappointed! There is a ton of the red stuff and plenty of guttings to quench your thirst for gore.

I can not express how impressed I was with this movie. The art direction, music, camera work, lighting, and editing were easily amongst the best that I have seen on the independent scene.
Brian Clement is a name to remember. This guy has a ton of talent. Kudos to you Brian!

4 out of 5 stars Not what I expected.......2007-05-05

I picked this off the shelf at Blockbuster expecting it to be a "mockumentary" similar to ones that seem to be surfacing more frequently now. I was surprised to find out, not only was this a serious film, but it was filmed in Scotland (guess it helps if you read the box?!?)

The previous reviewer was right about the think accents (I am lucky my wife does not have as difficult a time as I do and will translate) but I was able to make out most of the dialog after acclimating myself to it a short way in. At times it was predictable and seemed to drag, but the climax was sastisfactory enough and not exactly what I expected.

The production was much better than I estimated for a film of this genre, although nothing exactly wowed me neither was I laughing at cheesy CGI effects better left to the viewer's imagination. The dialog my brian allowed me to make out was well written and delivered convincingly.

Ross Finbow and Jame Young both did a superb job with their roles. The writer/director, Robbie Fraser, has crafted an impressive film. I look forward to seeing more from him with broader appeal.

5 out of 5 stars Great heartfelt romp.......2007-03-21

Found this title at Blockbuster and was happily taken aback by this comedy from Scotland. Quirky lead character is a classic role-playing fan, and has a face that could be seen in dungeons and castles of the middle ages, yet surprisingly sincere and charismatic acting. For a small film, has surprisingly cool special effects - a rotoscoping technique they developed - that comes into play every time the characters delve into the role-playing world. Know this since the DVD has some extra features on the making of the film. Also, some funny deleted scenes. Definite recommend.

5 out of 5 stars "Forget The Universe, Let It Go, Embrace The Multiverse" ~ When Fantasy And Reality Collide.......2007-01-24

Synopsis: Ralph (Ross Finbow) is your classic, highly intelligent but socially awkward nerd just finishing his last day of work as a box boy at the local supermarket. His life hasn't been as happy as it could be, his parents are dead, he lives with his Grandmother and he's frequently harassed on the streets of Glasgow by a group of locals who have nothing better to do. It's only when alone in his bedroom that he finds solitude and escape from this mundane existence, for it is there that he becomes "Game Master" of his own realm.

Ralph's world is about to broaden for he has been granted a scholarship to the University of Scotland. Immediately upon arrival he expands his gaming skills with a new group of misfit fantasy addicts; Davy (Johnny Austin), Hank (Ross Sutherland) and the attractive, elfish Marlyn (Danielle Stewart). When Lennie (James Young), an old childhood acquaintance and adversary, is unexpectedly added to the groups on-going game the fun and fantasy take on more serious concerns.

`Gamerz' released in '06 is a marvelous and unexpectedly enchanting film. Who would have thought that a small budget Scottish production featuring a cast of young unknowns could deliver such a satisfying cinematic experience. Written and directed by Robbie Fraser (whoever that is), the film reaches far beyond the bounds of Scotland and touches upon universal themes and feelings that we can all relate to. I extend my congratulations to Mr. Fraser for a job well done. The production values are inventive (especially the fantasy, role-playing sequences) the cast believable and likeable and the Indie soundtrack is delightfully quirky. The only problem with this movie is the thick Scottish accent of some of the actors (James Young in particular) that make it difficult to understand. That may be a slight drawback, but it's also an integral part of the unique enduring ambience of the film.

This is a film that will definitely become a cult classic for those who have ever enjoyed fantasy role playing games. But make no mistake, this movie is also a captivating "coming of age" film that should attract a larger audience of "non-nerds" as well. Before the movies over you'll be so caught up in the fantasy you'll be asking the same question as gamer Davy, "What is the difference between a Gnome and a Troll?"

My Highest Recommendation!

Description

The sequel to Meat Market 1!! More than a year after the events of Meat Market, the few survivors, Argenta, Nemesis, and others struggle for survival against the undead in the ruins of what was once society. In their search for a safe haven they come across what appears to be the last refuge of humanity - a fortified com-pound run by former motivational speaker Bill Wilhelm, and his cult of heavily armed fanatics. But when Argenta is subjected to indoctrination techniques and her comrades imprisoned, she begins to suspect that deep within the compound, more is going on than a simple attempt to 'rebuild' . . . that Bill and his followers have more than one use for the living and the undead alike.

1 out of 5 stars Don't be deceived!.......2004-03-15

This was the most dissapointing horror film I have ever seen. The acting is HORRIBLE, I don't think most are even real actors, probably just friends of the movie maker. The camera is extremely horrible, it literally looks like a film students work, the camera is just way too plain like one you can go buy at the store, for those reasons alone DO NOT BUY THIS FILM!!! Some of the zombies look good, well their faces at least. They don't have raggy clothing like they should, it's stupid when they are wearing perfectly clean clothes with faces full of blood, it doesn't make sense. There's abit of blood, and a few scenes with gore but the way it was done was as bad as the acting. There is only one scene where you actually see violence in action without having to move the camera away, the rest of it is just blood squirting on the walls that doesn't even look like blood. If the camera was professional it might have been fun to watch, but it was done with a home recorded so it's not worth it at all. Not to mention that the girls in this movie are UGLY!!! There is no excuse for the showering scenes, come on they do closeups on a naked girl that is probably around 290 pounds!! That was sicker than the zombies! Just avoid this movie at all costs, it is just horrible, the only thing good about it is the relief you feel when you watch other movies, it makes you appreciate good movies!

4 out of 5 stars Who is eating who, really?.......2004-02-11

The sequel to any horror movie usually lacks something of the original, but this one proves worthy. We're not only blessed with zombie action: lots of head-splitting and cheesy spurting noises, but humans eating organs! Finally, a new spin on the zombie genre. The story of the survivors from the first movie facing out with a tyrannical corporation trying to rebuild a zombified world also held my attention well. For the budget of $5,000 dollars, it's a damn good movie.

This is a worty movie despite its apparant technical flaws. Any zombie fan will drool for more.

3 out of 5 stars not as good as the first but good enough.......2003-09-06

The movie continues a year later after the MM1 to where the same army chick, one of the lesbian vampires and a dude with a patch on his eye go around in the zombie infested city. They end up getting captured by some dorky-looking chick and taken to a base where the military kill diseased people, experiment on the disabled, and sign up who ever isn't diseased of disabled. Then there's a autopsy guy who does human inerds and skulls. Then the hot chick investigates the whole thing. Then it progresses on until zombies within the base break free and kill off all the soldiers. Then the lesbian vampire and the hot chick escape with the help of the ghost of the Mexican Wrestler.

A DECENT SEQUEL! NOT AS GOOD AS THE FIRST! I thought they weren't even trying in this one and didn't even try at all to make a good sequel (hence Hollywood and their sequels) but it's good enough I suppose. The only flaw this movie suffered was the return of that Mexican wrestler. THAT WAS STUPID! Other than that, wonderful.
(some zombies)
