Description
"Like in a disenchanted urban western, A Red Bear draws out the destiny of a justice-seeking avenger, outlawed by the raw truth of life in the suburbs of Buenos Aires. From the director of Bolivia, Adrián Caetano's internationally acclaimed film is considered to be one of the finest examples of the ""New Argentine Cinema.""
Although Bear is the only one counting, seven years have gone by since he was sent to prison for robbery and murder. He's unpredictable and violent by nature and need, yet he holds his past close to the vest with a simmering intensity. The day of the robbery was his daughter Alicia's first birthday and his ex-wife Natalia has never forgiven him for that.
Now paroled, Bear thinks he might be able to start anew — but Natalia lives with Sergio, who helped her during rough times, and Alicia barely remembers her father at all. Bear is determined to get them back or at least repair the damage. Caught between the depressed Argentine economy and the double-dealing underworld, the only way he might succeed to ensure his daughter's future may be to return to his criminal past. Will Bear make the ultimate sacrifice? "

"Sometimes it is better to leave alone the people you love".......2006-06-09
"A red bear" is an interesting Argentinian film directed by Adrián Caetano. The main character is a man nicknamed "Bear" (Julio Chávez) who is determined to recover his life.
That could mean many things, but in this instance it means that "Bear" participated in a butched robbery, and went to jail for seven years. During that time, his wife Natalia (Soledad Villamil) started a relationship with another man, Sergio (Luis Machín). What is more, his daughter Alicia (Agostina Lage) has grown without him, and looks up to Sergio as a substitute dad. What will "Bear" do? Does he have any possibility of getting his family back? And would that be a good thing for them?
A secondary plot is "Bear"'s objective of recovering some money that a man named "Turk" owes him. However, that will not be easy. Moreover, and due to the fact that "Turk" is very involved in criminal activities, meeting him will expose "Bear" to being sent to jail again.
On the whole, I really liked this movie, and I can recommend it to you. It is not perfect, but it is more than good enough to engage the spectator, and has the advantage of having a very good cast. You are not likely to be disappointed :)

Don't poke the Bear.......2005-09-10
This Argentine film, 'A Red Bear' is not a particularly unusual story, but it is marked by an extraordinary performance. Julio Chavez plays the man known as "Bear". The film opens with his release from prison, and the flashbacks of the violent robbery gone bad that put him there. Upon his release he has two destinations, the run down pool hall run by "Turco", an aging crime boss that still owes him money, and the home of his former wife so he can see his daughter Alicia.
Bear's ex is now living in a shabby neighborhood with a loser who blows all the family funds on poor horse bets. The new husband doesn't abuse wife and child he is just a failure with few prospects.
Julio Chavez as Bear is like a coiled spring. Every movement of his body calculated to prevent himself from exploding in extreme violence. He is absolutely intimidating to anyone who has the brains to sense how dangerous he is. When Turco tells him to call him in a week about the overdue money he calmy replies, "I'll be back tomorrow".
Bear is determined to reunite with his daughter but the mother is extremely cautious, with Bear just out of prison. The pure love and unbreakable bond between father and daughter is nicely explored.
A great movie. Shows a bad side of a person and the true fillings for the family.Like always,a latinomerican film with passion.
