"Their cheer blew like a bulimic after Christmas dinner," sneers Lisa (Marla Sokoloff from Dude, Where's My Car?), a bitter B-squad cheerleader who has it in for the A squad. She's come to the police to solve the mystery of a local bank robbery--a story that begins when head cheerleader Diane (Marley Shelton, Pleasantville, The Bachelor) and star quarterback Jack (James Marsden, X-Men, Disturbing Behavior) fell in love. Before you know it, Diane's knocked up--but she and Jack are delighted and decide to get married. Their parents disown them immediately, so the young couple ends up in a crappy apartment, working low-wage jobs. They're both so unrelentingly earnest and cheerful that they won't lose heart, but Diane soon realizes that their incomes won't support their impending twins. Then, one night as she and her squad (including Mena Suvari of American Beauty) are watching Point Break, they get the idea to rob a bank... Sugar & Spice, a broad satire of high school hierarchy, is set to a sparkling pop soundtrack and features many, many shots of cute cheerleaders in tight sweaters and short skirts. The cast is enthusiastic; Sokoloff in particular seems to savor her atypically nasty role. Also featuring cameos by Jerry Springer, Kurt Loder, and an almost unrecognizable Sean Young (Blade Runner, Ace Ventura: Pet Detective). --Bret Fetzer

If music be the food of love, then Under the Desert Sky is an Italian feast. Andrea Bocelli performs live at the Lake Las Vegas resort for this DVD and bonus CD, featuring some of the world's greatest love songs. In straying from the largely classical repertoire that helped shoot Bocelli to stardom, he is able to take more contemporary material and give it the sheen of timelessness. Most of the selections are in Italian, Spanish, or French--Romance languages, naturally. Highlights include the swoon-inducing "Amapole," the pitch-perfect "Canzoni Stonate," and even a reverent "Can't Help Falling in Love." Through it all, Bocelli's relaxed, self-effacing manner and confident delivery make for an intimate concert experience. Bocelli is also backed by a terrific group of talented musicians, including pianist and executive producer David Foster. A real show-stopper: Bocelli's duet with the Tony-winning Aida singer Heather Headley; the blending of their voices suggests the duets of Aaron Neville and Linda Ronstadt at their most sublime. There's only one real clunker: "Besame Mucho," which is so innately cheeseball that trying to deliver it sincerely only makes it more cheesy. Included is a CD with nine tracks, including a different version of "Can't Help Falling in Love," with a duet by American Idol's Katherine McPhee, and a soulful "Canzoni Stonate" with Stevie Wonder. DVD extras include interviews with Bocelli, Foster, and others (be sure to turn on your subtitles manually if you're not an Italian speaker). That's amore! --A.T. Hurley
Description
Performed on a specially constructed floating stage in Lake Las Vegas, a resort community 20 miles south of Las Vegas, this historic performance captures Andrea Bocelli's first ever pop concert. Under the Desert Sky, which co-stars Tony® winner Heather Headley (Elton John's Aida), represents a new era for the Tuscan-born singer. Spanish guitars flourish, traditional Latin percussion seductively keeps the tempo, accordions and harmonicas provide haunting ambience. Highlights include "Somos Novios" - Perry Como had a hit with it as "It's Impossible" - and "The Prayer," a duet with Heather Headley, David Foster and Carole Bayer Sager's Oscar® nominated song from Quest for Camelot. Capping the program is a new song, "Because We Believe," by David Foster with lyrics by Andrea Bocelli and Amy Foster Gillies which was written for and introduced at the 2006 Torino Winter Olympics.

If you are a fan of Andrea Bocelli, this is a "must have" DVD and CD combo.
Bocelli - Under the Desert Sky.......2007-05-13
This DVD came with the CD - great bargain for the price. The mix of songs was great and while watching the DVD, I felt like I was in the audience. The background, setting, etc., was just as relaxing to watch as listening to Andrea Bocelli sing.

One of 2002's most underrated films, Brown Sugar offers more than you'd expect from a conventional romantic comedy. The love story between Dre (Taye Diggs) and Sidney (Sanaa Lathan) is the least interesting part of the movie; the costars have delightful chemistry, but their hookup is a given. What's refreshing is the way the story draws a parallel between Dre and Sidney's longtime friendship (they meet as kids in a 1984 flashback) and the evolution of hip-hop music from urban roots to dubious mainstream acceptance. Dre's a disillusioned producer at pop-fueled Millennium Records, married to a beauty (Nicole Ari Parker) who cheats while embracing her coveted status quo. Editor of an influential music magazine, Sidney's tentatively engaged to a basketball star (Boris Kodjoe), but these loves are obstacles, and Dre and Sidney are meant for each other. In bringing them together, Brown Sugar allows for human mistakes, intelligent solutions, and the kind of three-dimensional behavior that romantic comedies typically don't provide. --Jeff Shannon

"Friend's B-4 Lovers".......2007-03-29
This was a good movie with a great story line. This movie also teaches us that friends make better lovers. If you haven't seen this movie yet, you should check it out. It also reveals some of the "First *REAL PIONEERS* of RAP". They make special appearances in this film. So check it out.
very good movie.......2007-03-21
I had seen this movie once a few years ago when it just came out, and it is an interesting story. Has of course a good soundtrack and storyline. The acting is good and Taye Diggs is always pleasant to watch, as are the other actors. Good flick.
2.5 stars.......2007-03-12
Alright. So I had intended to see this movie upon its release way back and just really never got to it. A week or so ago it was playing on Oprah's Oxygen network and I was very happy that I would finally be able to see it. Overall, it was alright. So then it was on again the next day and I couldn't stomach watching it again.
It may be called Brown Sugar, but the plot moves slower than molasses. It is way too predictable and sweet, with very little substance. It wasn't even all too interseting the first time around and I couldn't stand seeing it a second time. There's a reason why these movies are on TV, people. No need to purchase the DVD. As soon as I saw it once, I had gotten my dose and wanted no more.
This movie is for the original rap kids that grew up with the hiphop culture.....................2007-01-01
Being a preteen in the early to mid eighties meant seeing the hiphop culture form right before your eyes. As you get older you realize that music that you loved as a kid is a part of your psyche and being. And sometimes the culture and your life correlate so much that it's hard to differentiate. The older you get the more life changes but you'll always have those great hiphop moments that pulls you back and puts it all in perspective.

That title says it all. If you are a fan it is a must! If your not, then why are you buying it the first place. If you know anything about Anna Nicole, you know what your getting. Alot of crazyness, laughs and fun from a girl who is not afraid to show you her reality and all the nutty people in it! Go Anna, where ever you are!

bought this as a present for my mother, and she's pretty addicted to it. I usually get a kick out of Bobby Trendy and Shelly. Makes everything seem stranger when you watch the current news and hear about Larry Birkhead and all of that.

I love this show. Its funny, especially the holiday episode at the end. I am so hoping they release season 2.

Customer Reviews:
A history lesson.......2007-05-11
Clifford Antone kept the Blues alive during the 70's, 80's and 90's at his clubs in Austin, TX. His habit of bringing artists in for a week's engagement meant that young artists like SRV and Doyle Bramhall Jr. could hang out with these cats and learn their riffs. This collection of jams, recollections, and pure blues energy will be a treat to any blues lover. Highly recommended.
If you dig this, also check out Kenny Wayne Sheppard's new CD/DVD, 10 Days Out. A similar collection of old blues masters, but with more complete cuts.
Let's hope Antone's Records releases full DVD versions of these seminal bluesmen in their natural environment,
BUY IT.......2007-04-21
An absolutely amazing Blues DVD. This is an absolute must have to anyone who loves the Blues, and I guarantee you'll have more love for the Blues after watching this.
Antone's Home of the Blues.......2007-02-07
I had an equally good experience with this DVD. It arrived in excellent condtion...and the DVD itself was really great. Again, I recommend this DVD to any blues lover. Thank you.
Barbara Butler
A great music documentary!.......2006-09-27
What a great documentary about such legendary venue. Antone's should be registered by the Austin authoritys as a historic landmark. This place can be a meca for blues lovers from all over the world.Cliffford Antones was a man who follow his dreams and provided joy to many blues musicians and public in general.
Passion Exists.......2006-08-30
This DVD is not for anyone expecting muscial performances. It is a history class about someone who contributed to the blues revolution. Antone's shows clips on virtually every important blues act of the day. It is informative and educational. While music was going thru its transition of disco, glam, and metal Antone was creating a foundation of the blues movement. It is an informal documentary that is pleasing. Now that we know tapes of and young Stevie Ray exists, please release them!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

Eddie Murphy needed a comeback after The Adventures of Pluto Nash, but I Spy didn't provide it. As with his previous turkey, Murphy's the least of this movie's problems; his spitfire delivery begs for better plotting and dialogue, and his teaming with Owen Wilson had even more promise than Wilson's Shanghai comedies with Jackie Chan. But this unfunny hash--bearing no resemblance to the 1960s Bill Cosby-Robert Culp TV series that inspired it--undermines Murphy and Wilson at every turn, stranding them in scenes that play well in isolation but never form a coherent action-comedy. It's not that director Betty Thomas is incapable; she just seems uninterested, going through the motions while Eddie, Owen, and Famke Janssen play spy games in Budapest, chasing after a villain (Malcolm McDowell, wasted again) who's stolen a sleek, invisibility-cloaked jet bomber called the Switchblade. Explosions, shootouts, double-crosses... ignore it all, and find what pleasure you can in Eddie and Owen's aimless banter. --Jeff Shannon
Customer Reviews:
You won't want to miss this one!.......2007-03-20
I agree with another reviewer that the sewer scene in Hungary is hilarious and the "Sexual Healing" scene is over the top funny! If you enjoyed movies like Old School, Anchorman, or Along came Polly then you won't want to miss this one!
Average Grade Thriller.......2007-03-08
I Spy has little in common with the 1960's TV series of the same name. However, there is just enough juice in I Spy to cause it to rise to the C grade level. True, both Eddie Murphy and Owen Wilson basically phoned their performances in. However, Malcolm McDowell contributes one of his greatest performances ever and this combined with the great cinematography helps to make up for many of the deficiencies in this movie.
Bottom line, this is a decent movie that is worth a rental.
They spy!.......2007-01-24
Eddie Murphy and Owen Wilson delighted audiences in late 2002 with this action-packed film based on the 1965-68 NBC adventure series starring comedian Bill Cosby and Robert Culp. This is one of the best action films since the LETHAL WEAPON series. Scott Kelly(Wilson) and athlete Alexander Scott(Murphy) are partners in crime. You can call them cops,P.I.'s,FBI agents, whatever. This is a reunion between Murphy and director Betty Thomas who is late of the NBC crime drama Hill Street Blues. Previously,Thomas directed Murphy in the remake of THE NUTTY PROFESSOR and the remake sequel. Thomas' previous films include THE BRADY BUNCH MOVIE and PRIVATE PARTS.
A great surprise!.......2005-06-18
What a good time I had watching this movie. I've watched it for the fourth time this week and it keeps getting better. Quick witted, good chemistry between Eddie Murphy & Owen Wilson, exciting chase scenes -- just a lot of fun. Don't listen to the critics on this one or you'll miss a great couple of hours.
Wilson and Murphy=laughter.......2005-04-24
This movie has all the makings of being just another cheesy flick, but just at the last second something manages to save it. That would be the relationship between Murphy and Owen Wilson.
Although they aren't as funny a pair as Jackie Chan and Owen Wilson, there is a spark in I Spy that generates humor even when these two are not fighting between themselves. Such as Owen renting the lowest cost room for the boxing God (Murphy) or when they are trying to take over the spy plane in the end.
A decent action thriller/comedy that is pulled of rather well on such used plot. I Spy manages to follow the James Bond thread without drawing on it too much to be cliche.
But enough said, I'll let you be the judge.

Cliff, a gay teen, is restless in his sheltered suburban life, and anxious to have his first sexual experience. One night, while downtown, he meets a tough street hustler, Butch, who introduces him to a world of sex, drugs, prostitution and life on the streets. Romance blossoms between the two until drugs begin to pull them apart. Realistic and challenging, Sugar is about coming out and coming of age.

Nothing Sweet About This Hustler "Love Story"--It's So Artificial, It Should Be Called Saccharine.......2007-04-06
I'm not really sure about the state of gay independent cinema. Seriously. Now there are plenty of ineffective low budget features across the board, but it just seems that the success stories in the gay indies are much more infrequent proportionally to the number of films being made. I'm not quoting real life statistics, of course, this is just my perception. What is equally interesting is that no matter how lacking some of these films may be in terms of accomplished filmmaking technique or logical storytelling, they are embraced by many. It's as if we are still perpetuating the notion that any gay representation is better than none--and I just don't know if that's true any more. Surely, gay cinema can aspire to greatness. I understand that many of these films are done with no money and very limited means. I sympathize. But writing a compelling and believable screenplay? That just takes creativity and talent--but for every great gay film, there are still 100 disasters!
Which leads me to "Sugar," a Canadian treat about the hustler life from John Palmer. Ostensibly billed as some sort of a love story, this bizarrely uneven film could never convince me that anything real was at stake. The characters are so inconsistent, the situations so false--what is supposed to have a gritty, hard edged feel just left me slightly amused (if I registered any emotion beyond shock). Telling the coming-of-age story of a gay suburban teen, Cliff, "Sugar" sets up an odd family life. Virginal Cliff is sent into the city by his young sister (and I mean elementary aged) for his 18th birthday. The girl, who is addicted to Ritalin, provides Cliff with vodka and marijuana to make the trip more enjoyable. His mother is never a strong parental figure, she's off at work (something unexplained having to do with cartons of chocolate) and/or completely indifferent--yet oddly accepting of her children's lack of sense.
Cliff promptly heads off to hustler central, meets the love of his life, makes out immediately, spends the night with all the rent boys--including a naked party in a client's limo. Cliff begins a romance/friendship in earnest with Butch--a surprisingly coherent and pleasant (when the story needs him to be) train wreck of a low-end escort. Cliff yearns to join the hustler life--why not? Everything is peaches and roses, however, until Butch does the unthinkable. It's awful and so unexpected! He has sex with Cliff in front of a client. It's exactly what Cliff has been wanting (both in terms of the relationship and in advancing his new career), but somehow we're supposed to believe it's unforgivable (and that Cliff has remained chaste during his explorations). The story gets even more ridiculous (I mean heartrending) as we get to the conclusion. Cliff must face the consequences of the life he has chosen--and the film leaves us with one last parting message. There's nothing that can't be solved by an anonymous hook-up in a restaurant bathroom. Sweet.
You know, the actors aren't bad. Heck, this film even features Canadian indie fave Sarah Polley. There's nudity, if that's what you're looking for. The little sister is extremely funny--although her penchant for supplying drugs and alcohol is never explained. If you find this a "love" story, bless you--but it's not for me. Now, I've heard a few comparisons to other (more successful) hustler movies including Van Sant's "My Own Private Idaho." Well, that just leaves me with one more thing to say--Spare me! KGHarris, 04/07.
Great JO Scene, but a little slow.......2007-01-24
The film was well done and easy to follow with not a lot to make one ponder. I guess that is to be expected with a movie about a drug addicted male prostitute and his groupie. Worth seeing if you like that kind of thing.
After The Movie.......2007-01-06
You know what you are buying when you look at the cover. Like many gays, I prefer seeing anything with a gay theme just because it is gay themed. Even the worst have their moments unless I just had to stop them 15 minutes in. The movie is unrealistic and yes I am tired of this gay/not gay-hustler drug-using youth movies.
However, something must be said of the lead actor Andre Noble who showed much promise in this movie. You just get the idea that he could have broken through to other movies out of this arena and become a star. There was a special on-screen charisma he brought to the role and some realism.
The tragic story is just a few months after the release of this movie, Andre died near his home on an outing with friends when he came into contact with a poison flower. His personal life is well described online in various places if you want to know about him and no I don't know if he was gay or not and it does not matter. The other tragedy is the actor who played the hustler in the movie, Brendan Fehr. I was just looking for one statement from him anywhere on the Internet where he spoke about his work with Andre Noble and any sense of feeling he had about his death. Brendan's website has not one word about Andre and instead has all of this righteous religious material justifying why he played a hustler in a gay-themed movie a long time ago. If anybody find's a statement from Brendan about the death of Andre and his working experience with him that does not have all homosexuals going to hell, I would like to read it. What a disappointment. How did he ever get cast as this character? I would have liked to seen Andre in other movies.
More Soft Porn Than Movie.......2007-01-01
I enjoy softcore and hardcore pornography as much as any sexual gay male, but I, also, enjoy a provocative and challenging gay-related movie. This movie is unfortunately in a line of commercial gay films that titilate more than mentally or emotionally stimulate. The acting itself was not bad in itself, but the preponderance of substance abuse gives us the idea that all gay youth struggling for identity and acceptance turn to drugs for their journey to self-acceptance. The softcore pron in the movie was pleasant enough but was out of place for me. There are times when showing less is more creative and stimulating than showing it all. See the movie once, but I would recommend buying it.
Horrible..........2006-12-19
Has no story line, makes no sense, and is essentially a waste of money. Bad acting also.

Short, sweet, effective & fun!!.......2007-05-20
I enjoyed this workout very much. It's a nice pace excellent for someone who loves boxing and needs a good workout as well as someone looking to learn some basic boxing moves.
The workout is about 30 minutes and includes both upper and lower body exercises followed by a core floorwork drill. You will be ready to end when your 30 minutes are up but you'll also be energized and ready for the next session. They recommend 2-3 days per week.
They have a short nutritional advice segment with Laila and a motivational segment with Sugar Ray. I think that added a more personal touch to this dvd. If you are skeptical about paying $15+ for this workout remember it can be rented from Netflix and the likes to try out.
Micheal Olajide, Jr. also offers boxing workouts that are of benefit.

Customer Reviews:
One sweet comedy!.......2006-10-24
The title says it all: Sugar & Spice. It's a sweet yet sour comedy about the A-squad cheerleaders and their sister-like friendship as they all unite to help the head cheerleader, Diane (played by adorable Marley Shelton) and her quarterback boyfriend support the twins they're expecting. I watched this movie not knowing anything about it, and I honestly thought as soon as Diane learns she's pregnant and gives her boyfriend the news, that he was going to leave her, but he couldn't have been more happy. In fact, the only people upset with the news are their parents who disown them, leaving the young couple to fend for themselves. They marry and take minimum wage jobs to pay for their apartment and the expected twins, but it's not enough. But that doesn't stop the A-squad from coming up with a heist plan sure to give the couple the cash they need to care for their babies. Told from the point of view of a bitter B-squad cheerleader, this is one of those fun movies like Mean Girls that's funny yet sweet without being too sugary. It will leave you cheering for these good bad girls the entire way. Enjoy...this one is definitely a keeper!
Silly Funny Laugh-till-you-cry Movie!.......2006-01-13
I've seen this flick on TV a couple of times, never the whole thing so I never knew the title until I googled "cheerleaders rob bank". That tells you right there how crazy this movie is. Trying to describe why it's so good is impossible-- it's just plain SILLY but so much fun you want to watch it over and over. It's hilarious.
Doesn't have the feistiness of Bring It On.......2005-09-22
I enjoyed this movie, although was disappointed, as Bring It On is one of my favourite feel good movies. This was disappointing in comparison to Bring It On.
The actresses are fab in this however - look out for a black-haired Melissa George (was Angel in Home & Away, and was also in Friends), who's virtually unrecognisable! Also Alexandra Holden comes in half way through (was also in Friends, and Tru Calling), and Marla Sokoloff (ALSO in Friends), Marley Shelton & Mena Suvari do a good job, with what little they have to do in the film, with their two-dimensional roles. They dress up as Betty Dolls (which I've never seen in the UK), and each one plays a different Betty Doll. The Bettys are: Diane - "Mood Swing" Betty; Kansas - "White Trash" Betty; Cleo - "Stalker" Betty; Hannah - "Virgin" Betty (with optional horse and saddle); Fern - "Terminator" Betty and Lucy - Richard Nixon. (Obviously another nod to Point Break.)
The storyline's pretty standard for a teen movie. Lead star (who looks like Heather Graham) gets pregnant, move into their own home, and promptly run out of money. So while watching Point Break (yes, you do get a glimpse of Keanu during this), they decide to rob a bank. And it goes off without a hitch.
The movie's not that long, only 73 minutes, with two minutes of "where are they now?" and six minutes of credits for a running time of 81 minutes. So it's not completely a waste of time, as it's over in no time, and it's instantly forgettable as well.
Fluffy fun, which you'll watch, smile and switch off. Nothing more, nothing less.
A movie that has to grow on you.......2005-03-15
I'm willing to bet for many people(myself included) that this isn't the kind of film anyone will walk away from thinking "Phenomenal". No matter how many times you see this movie it will never reach phenomenal status, but it does get better every time you watch.
The first time I saw this movie I hated the annoyingly stupid characters and poorly delivered jokes. Then while laying in bed I start thinking about some of the corny jokes like "Im trapped under the ice" and "Trix Rabbit or Count Chocola". So I pop in the DVD again and every time I watch is better then the last, because you find more silly/corny one liners that stick in your head.

Fun Movie with many very sexy young ladies.......2005-01-17
I have seen this movie a few times and the play off of movies like "Heat", "Dog Day Afternoon", "Reservoir Dogs" & "Point Break" was sheer brilliance. The characters were fun as well as the entire movie. I feel the soundtrack was fun as well with some cool rock & roll tunes. I bought both the movie on DVD and the soundtrack on CD and would recommend this movie to anyone who has not aborted their sense of humor and can just leave the critical part of the brain at the doorstep and just watch a movie for the fun of it. We can all pick things to pieces with critical thinking but this is not that kind of movie. Very few movies involving teenagers and adults can put a story together that tries not to be condescending or serious for either generation and that's what makes this unique satire such a hidden gem. If you haven't seen this movie but like movies that are fun just for the sake of being fun then this movie is for you!
About the movie: The entire movie is told in retrospect by a second string (B Squad) cheerleader named Lisa (Marla Sokoloff). The movie starts with Lisa at the police station looking at a lineup of suspected Bank robbers she witnessed. The bank robbers are the "A" Cheerleader Squad Team. The captain of the "A" Team is Diane Weston (Marley Shelton) whom upon meeting a new boy Jack Bartlett (James Marsden) the new football quarterback, gets an instant crush on him and then is asked to the Prom dance by him. They fall in love and she gets pregnant. After being rejected by their parents they find a dump of an apartment and make the best of it. While the "A" team is at Diane's watching Point Break it occurs to Diane how she can get the money she needs for her family-to-be. MONEY, money can give you what you want? They can rob a bank? After a few moments they go hands in on the deal and make a pact with each other. Each watch a movie like "Reservoir Dogs" and "Dog Day Afternoon" and "Heat" as well as "The Apple Dumpling Gang" by one of the girls who's from a Christian home who can only watch G movies. They make a practice run by stealing the schools lunch money and build a little self-confidence. The bank robbery looks like a combination of all the movies they had watched. If you want to see how it ends then you just have to watch it. If you like looking at pretty girls then this is a pleasing movie for this as well. When the movie was made the girls actual ages ranged from Mena Suvari being the youngest at age 21 and Marley Shelton being the oldest at age 26, The girls all pull off playing teenage girls quite convincingly and appear to have all had fun making this movie and working with each other. If I had any gripe at all it would be that the soundtrack for this movie did not include several songs heard in the movie and the soundtrack is only 36.5 minutes so it's not like there wasn't room on the CD. Anyway, watch the movie and have fun.

Product Description
Finding men had never been a problem for city girl Molly Trousdale (Jean Arthur)-finding the right man is another matter. And women have never been a problem for cowboy bachelor Duke Hutkins (John Wayne)-until they want to marry him. If it's true that opposites attract, they're obviously made for each other.
When Molly sets out from New York on a cross-country bus tour, she just wants to see America. But her plans take an unexpected turn out West, when she collides (literally!) with Duke while he's competing at the rodeo. He assumes she's just another pretty gal who'll fall into his arms, but she's a lady who won't be roped easily by a brawling, rough-and-ready cowboy.
Jean Arthur shows the spunk that made her one of the biggest stars of Hollywood's Golden Era, and John Wayne is at his most charming when he falls for her against his better judgment. So get ready for the dust to fly when these two screen legends star in a truly classic romantic comedy, A Lady Takes A Chance!

A Lady Takes a Chance is probably the best American romantic comedy of the '40s that hardly anyone knew about--at least, in the last three or four decades of the 20th century. That's chiefly because, as a semi-independent production mounted for Jean Arthur by her husband, Frank Ross, the movie couldn't claim a place in any studio archive (It's a Wonderful Life was long neglected for similar reasons). So this lovely gem is ripe for rediscovery, not only for Arthur at her most enchantingly distracted, as a New York gal on a bus tour of the modern Wild West, but also for John Wayne's sly sexiness as the rodeo rider who literally falls into her lap. James Agee, no less, approvingly noted that "Wayne suggests how sensational he might be in a sufficiently evil story about a Reno gigolo." Lady isn't evil, but it's surely a delight. --Richard T. Jameson
Customer Reviews:
The Duke has never been more charming..........2007-03-09
This is an early effort of John Wayne's, but he holds his own in this light comedy. The supporting cast are, as always, worth watching as they all progress through the romantic antics of this movie. If you've never seen it-do so!
A Lady Takes a Chance.......2007-02-14
I've watched this movie at least a dozen times. Fine romance! My gosh he was a sexy young man! GREAT chemistry between him and Jean Arthur. Thoroughly enjoyable!
Good Romantic Comedy; Terrible DVD.......2005-11-19
This is far from Jean Arthur's classic comedies of the late 1930s and the early 40s, but she's as charming as ever. John Wayne is also surprisingly good as the romantic leading man, but the film is a showcase for Jean Arthur's talents from beginning to end (it was produced by her husband).
The DVD, however, is terrible. Its watchable, but you feel like you're watching the film on 1980s VHS, late night TV or one of those cheap public domain DVDs. The image is very soft, there are visible scratches and the sound is very bad. Still, I doubt that Criterion will ever pick a film like this one, so if you like 1940s romantic comedies, and Jean Arthur in particular, you should "take a chance" on this one.
John Wayne and Jear Arthur sizzle onscreen.......2004-05-03
An unusual wartime comedy-romance, starring the ever-delectable Jean Arthur as a big-city girl who takes a bus tour out West to see some of the world, and gets a real eyeful when she hooks up with John Wayne, a lanky, laconic cowboy who's rambling around on the rodeo circuit. The script is fairly minimal, and many scenes even seem improvised, but what's remarkable is the underlying sexual frankness of the film -- the two meet by accident, and are inexorably drawn together by sheer sexual chemistry. When they finally give in and go out on a real date, they have nothing to say to each other -- the attraction is purely physical. Certain scenes, such as when he invites her up to his hotel room, offers her a drink, and bed to bunk in, are surprisingly raw, at least for the time. Arthur and Wayne also seem to have chemistry together -- in fact, this is the only film in which I've seen him play opposite a gal when the sizzle seemed real... It's a funny film with an offbeat sense of humor, one that's worth seeing particularly if your a fan of Jean Arthur's work... She's about as cute as ever in this one!
Classic Boy-Meets Girl With a Twist........2004-02-04
A LADY TAKES A CHANCE stars Jean Arthur as Molly Truesdale, a young and hip Eastern American woman tired of all her suitors. To escape from them for a spell, she takes a bus-tour west to see America. While out west she literally bumps into Duke Hudkins (John Wayne) at a rodeo. They end up spending the rest of the day together and most of the evening and Molly ends up missing her bus. Duke takes her to the city where she can catch it for the ride home.
Though this is a pretty typical boy-meets-girl movie, there are a lot of elequant touches that make it stand out above the rest. Besides, it's enjoyable watching the Duke play a role so different from the ones he was to become famous for. Jean Arthur is just adorable and makes a grand lady that is at first pursued, but then becomes the pursuer. As a bonus, Phil Silvers has a small role as the bus tour guide. Not only will Wayne fans and oldies fans like this movie, but it makes for a great date picture.

Great workout.......2007-05-17
I would call myself an intermediate to advance exerciser. While I still have some weight to lose I've lost 30+ lbs using exercise DVDS. What I liked about this is, it is just as challenging as you make it. It definitely can serve as a beginner DVD (it does have a section that shows you all the moves slowly so you can be familiar with them prior to the workout) but if you put more into it, it can go beyond. I love the punches which is why I thought I'd like this but the biggest suprise was the AB sequence, I didn't think on a beginner workout it would be that intense. True my abs were sore so that might have played a part but I thought the AB section was definitely solid. I enjoyed my workout and worked up a good sweat. I haven't tried the Heavyweight workout yet but I'm thinking it might be a little faster paced which I'm sure I'll love too. This is definitely a workout DVD worth checking out.
