I enjoyed this film. It is definitely not a "typical lesbian film". Instead, it is like a play at a theater that is brought to film with the best of the theatrical show interspersed with fine film.

It is the true story of two comedians who decide to do a play together and fall in love. The story is narrated by the real two women standing on a stage telling the story of their relationship. Their narration is interrupted by a sort of reenactment of what they are telling you about, starring them but including actors playing the other parts. It is a creative and entertaining way to do a film.

The movie explores universal themes, not even primarily lesbian themes---things like falling in love with someone else when you're in a committed relationship, how it feels to be unable to resurrect a dead relationship, how it feels to try to make love to someone you are committed to but whom you have drifted far away from.

I loved it. I thought it was intelligently done, well-written, and that the acting was great. I even watched the special feature describing the making of the film.

This is definitely a film for adults. Teens (even older teens, in my opinion) and children would not understand the complex issues involved and would not be entertained; also there are some explicit lesbian love-making scenes.

Definitely recommended.

this is another horrible lesbian drama with horrible acting. this "story" is meant for a play theater or something. It is almost all narrative, where you watch the narrators tell you about what is happening, rather than a good movie.

this is yet another bad gay movie to add to the piles of bad movies that are considered good to the gay community merely b/c they are gay oriented.

My Favorite Judy Garland Movie. She is Beautiful and what a voice. My best friends and I get together for his birthday every year and watch this movie while eating his version of Lilys star cake. A must see for all Garland fans.

good little known judy movie .......2007-03-13

I found this movie a long time ago on tape and later on tv. i was glad it came out on dvd. It is a little known Judy movie, but she looks wonderful in it. It is one her funniest movies, she is wonderful of a midwestern girl wanting to be an actress, but has to go where it can happen, New York to live in the "incubator" with her boughten hats. it is a charming film that all Judy Garland fans must see. The ending alone is worth it when she dances beautifully. It was too bad that this and the Clock didn't have a commentary from John Fricke, who knows everything about Judy. It would have a nice bonus.

Garland Gets Glamour.......2007-03-08

This delightful MGM musical was Judy Garland's first opportunity to rise above her little girl image and appear as a glamorous young woman. She romances older man, Van Heflin, and heads off to NYC to conquer Broadway. She eventually succeeds all around but not before hitting a few snags along the way. All is carried out in a humorous and fun-loving spirit. The supporting cast members are likable and clever without too much hokekum. The musical numbers are relatively few for a Garland movie and only the finale is a production piece. The songs are not Garland mainstays or any that she ever sang later in her career but are fresh and pleasantly entertaining. My favorite is the impromtu "Every Little Movement" in which Lily Mars lovingly duets with the theatrical char-woman, Connie Gilchrist, after she catches her sleeping in the theater. Judy was truly beautiful at 21 and her performance here marks the beginning of her career as an adult at MGM.

JUDY FLIRTING????.......2007-03-04

The scene in the garden where Judy is flirting with Van is a cinematic gem! Its easy to see why so many men fell in love with her ! At 20 years old she seemed to be in complete control of her womanly powers over men. Somewhere along the road she lost it and thought of herself as ugly. At least we get to keep her (thanks to movies), as beautiful ,vivacious and sparkling !!!!!

Hey the women are gorgeous, the photography classy, and there's the obligatory g on g stuff. That said, this was soft core, mildly erotic, with no close-ups or anything that could be considered "nasty" or even "cool." As in "ohhhh, that's nasty...", or, "Wow. Cooool." You see more action in a "Girls gone wild" DVD. If you want soft, classy, and beautiful, get the disk. If you want more, well this makes good eye candy, but not much else.

Chock-full of sizzling skits........2001-05-06

This disc is the perfect Pet sampler. Blonde, red-head, sandy brown, and dark-haired. Each model with a different look and figure. A healthy helping of racy make this video a worthy addition to the collection. Also recommend, Penthouse's Dear Diary.

Stars: Samantha Stewart, Vicca, Angelica Costello, Zdenka, Miel Angel Director: Nicholas Guccione Total length 71 minutes. 56 Minutes for feature, about 15 minutes for the bonus footage. Main feature is divided into 11 parts of approximately 5 minutes each. 10 parts features 1 actress and 1 part features 2 actresses. There are no males present in this feature. Each actress is featured in two of the single girl parts. Vicca and Samantha are featured in the one 5 minute two girl segment in this feature. The extra footage is of lower quality than the rest of this feature, which is probably why it was not a part of the main feature in the first place. Expect lots of nudity with emphasis on eroticism, numerous scenes with legs spread, and a few glimpes of the women spreading themselves. Actually, with Angelica, it is more than a glimpse. Whoever said real beauty is on the inside was right. "Harlots of Hell" and "Dear Diary" show similar amounts skin in approximately the same amounts, and I recommend both of these titles as well. Both of these titles also have a higher proportion of 2-4 girl scenes.

Pushing the envelope in x-rated video.......2000-11-20

One of the best Penthouse videos I've seen. I was amazed by how much these women were willing display their bodies. Beyond the usual naked poses, a few of them (Angelica Costello in particular) actually spread themselves open! There is one girl-girl scene that gets as close to XXX-rated as Penthouse can. The "behind the scenes" bonus chapters aren't worth watching at all, but the four women featured definitely make for an exciting DVD.

A Word for Word Interpretation of Wilde's Salome.......2006-12-30

I bought this film (VHS) from my local video store years ago & still have it. I'm stunned that the DVD is in such a prohibative price range!!!!!!!!!!
This film is a word for word read of Wilde's play Salome, but what a "wild", filmatic modern interpretation. A very fun movie and campy isn't the only thing this movie is, its very irreverent in the best sense of the word, a most cheesy morsel of goods. I love the words in this play and frankly think the director was a genius with the physical counterpoint to the language of the play. I'm sure Wilde wrote the play
"straight". As a matter of fact he even acted in Salome & he played Salome, so maybe I'm wrong & he didn't write it "straight". The movie is faithful to the "fin de siecle" philosophy pervading Wilde's Salome & as such I believe the director of the movie did a bang up job. KYA

Oh please, someone re-release this film on DVD!.......2006-11-16

This film is an exquisite study in camp. Susan Sontag's NOTES ON CAMP should be amended to include this movie. I ADORE this movie. Glenda Jackson vamps it up as Herodias, and Stratford Johns is hilarious as Herod. It is fun, it is ribald, it is scandalous and witty, it is Ken Russell at his best (and that's saying quite a bit, because he can be a very uneven director-- you've got the man who on one hand created WOMEN IN LOVE, and then recently crapped out THE FALL OF THE LOUSE OF USHER). Well darlings, enjoy this film, watch it with a glass of champagne and a clove cigarette.

It's interesting to see this movie getting so many good reviews, because among my friends, it's known as the film that's only bearable to watch on fast-forward.

This film is sensationalist, yet boring--it attempts to follow in the steps of Jarmann, but is not nearly so inventive.

The person playing Salome was horrible, reducing her wonderfully paradoxical character in Wilde's play to nothing more than a Lolita knock-off with an oral fixation, with only one tone of voice for all of her lines.

Most of the sequences actually relating to Oscar Wilde were historically wrong--which could be borne easily enough--but also unimaginatively vulgar, and demeaning--which cannot. I wouldn't be surprised if the take on Wilde and his circle portrayed here was based in large part on "Teleny"--an "erotic novel" (I use both terms loosely) that has popularly been attributed to him, but which was most likely a simple (and poor) imitation of his style.

This film might be interesting as a curiousity, but it does Wilde's beautiful play no justice.

This isnt the worst Playoff Video I have seen. However, its not thebest either. . . this in no way as good as Playoff 1999, with SamanthaMichaels. Simply put, the two best videos ever made from Penthouse isPlayoff 99' , and Pet of the Year and Friends with Paige Summers. Yummy, those will rock your world.
