Description
Auggie (Clark Brandon) and his pals are living it up as perpetual college students. When the dean decides the only way to stop their antics is to graduate them, they come up with one final scheme; a risky bank loan to turn a friend's garage into stiff competition for Wrangler Bob's fast food chain. When it looks like Bob will win after all, they develop a very special sauce that keeps the crowds coming back because it has the effect of being an aphrodisiac. Bob doesn't like to lose, so he sends Dixie Love (Traci Lords) to infiltrate the restaurant and find out their secret. The ensuing FDA investigation culminates into a steamy case of disorder in the court!

Filmmaker Morgan Spurlock, rejected five times by the USC film school, won the best director award at the 2004 Sundance Film Festival for this alarmingly personal investigation into the health hazards wreaked by our fast food nation. Under extensive medical supervision, Spurlock subjects himself to a steady diet of McDonald's cuisine for 30 days just to see what happens. In less than a week, his ordinarily fit body and equilibrium undergo dark and ugly changes: Spurlock grows fat, his cholesterol rockets north, his organs take a beating, and he becomes subject to headaches, mood swings, symptoms of addiction, and lessened sexual energy. The gimmick is too obvious to sustain a feature documentary; Spurlock actually spends most of the film probing insidious ways that fast food companies worm their way into school lunchrooms and the hearts of young children who spend hours in McDonald's playrooms. French fries never looked more nauseating. --Tom Keogh

5 out of 5 stars A real eye-opener.......2007-06-27

I teach lifestyle changes for a weight loss clinic in my community and have used excerpts from Morgan Spurlock's "Supersize Me" as an attention getter when we talk about eating out. It's a real eye-opener for many of our clients AND some of our staff.

3 out of 5 stars Good Message, Bad Methodology.......2007-06-27

The message that obesity in America is reaching epidemic proportions is good, but blaming the fast food industry for the entire problem is a false premise. Has fast food added to the problem? Certainly, but there are other factors at work too.

The film does not provide any answers, other than to ban fast food, nor does it look at some very basic questions. Why has fast food grown to the point it has in America? Is it because we don't get to spend as much time at home? Is it because so many families are now 2 income earners? Had he spent time on these questions, in addition to the question of fast food, we might get some solutions.

Finally, he could have made his argument in a less dramatic way. Hurling out a window after stuffing yourself with a huge meal is not the way most Americans eat and it was most likely done strictly for theatrical reasons.

To sum up, the message is good, but the way it was delivered left a lot to be desired

5 out of 5 stars No more fast-food!.......2007-06-05

This is a real eye opening film into the unhealthy world of fast-food! Everyone should see it!!

1 out of 5 stars Super Size Me Movie.......2007-05-27

I was very disappointed in this movie. It was listed as a PG movie. My son was getting it for a class project. When we got it in the mail it was a PG-13. We watched it and I couldn't believe the bad language. It also talked about sex and drugs. I couldn't believe they put it on the internet as a PG. Even as PG-13 it was very dissappointing.

3 out of 5 stars Sweet land of liberty!!!.......2007-05-17

I get it; as a matter of fact, we all get it, you're not supposed to eat fast food all the time. And I really don't think anyone can! Personally I loved this movie, but I don't think it had a realistic premise. We all know fast food is a bad diet choice. Unfortunately; the hectic schedule faced by most working Americans these days has elevated the viability of fast food. Another alarming problem is the rate at which Mr. Spurlock's body started to deteriorate; his doctor was visibly shaken and that's scary. And although this may not be a scientific analysis, there seems to be a direct correlation between busy lives, fast food and obesity in America. In the end 'Super Size Me is fun to watch. But if you read Fast Food Nation by Eric Schlosser and/or watch Super Size Me, or both, you may never eat a happy meal again. You've been warned!

5 out of 5 stars LOUIE ANDERSON!!!.......2007-06-22

He was unbelievably brilliant in this movie!! His performance in this film was the best acting in the history of the universe and living things!! It is great. It is a billion times better than Howard Hesseman in "Flight of the Navigator." Anderson is in charge of making french fries at McDowell's Fast Food Restuarant." His best acting is when the place is robbed. He acts so calm. Incredible. He lets the robber call him a "fatboy" hahaha. I also loved the scene where the Lionel Ritchie lookalike pushes Louie and causes him to spill a milkshake. It is great. Louie Anderson is a genius. This movie would be nothing without his outstanding gift of acting brilliance. I saw his performance and I felt like "break dancing" hahaha. Lionel Ritchie stunk in the film. Eddie Murphy plays a billion roles but none of them compare to Mr. Andersons hahaha. Arsenio Hall was funny in his role and so was Darth Vader. The cab driver's language was very rude and unacceptable. I wouldn't get into a cab driven by such an foul-mouthed fool lol.

5 out of 5 stars Classic comedy finally gets a much needed DVD upgrade-it's about time!.......2007-06-06

Any fan of this film who has owned the previous bare-bones edition knows that it has been in much need of a better DVD for years and years, and now finally it's here. I don't see the point of rehashing the plot, because if you're reading this now, you most likely already know it (and if you don't, just buy the film anyway - you can't go wrong).

First off, here are the extra features:

-Prince-ipal Photography: The Coming Together of America
-Fit For Akeem: The Costumes of "Coming To America"
-Character Building: The Many Faces of Rick Baker (as the title suggests, this is a segment on the makeup effects used for the multiple characters played by Eddie and Arsenio).
-Composing America: The Musical Talents of Nile Rodgers
-A Vintage Sit-Down with Eddie and Arsenio (note: this interview was conducted in 1989 as a promotion for the film and is NOT a recent interview, for those of you wondering). It's still good though, and it says that it was never released until now.

This new DVD also offers a very nice transfer, and I bet it looks even better on the HD-DVD version. My only complaint is that there are some "forced" previews at the beginning before the main menu appears, which one must fast-forward through. So buyer beware.

But all in all this new DVD edition blows the previous one out of the water. Highly recommended!

Lo and behold, Clerks II defies the odds as a sequel that even the most ardent Clerks fans can be happy about. Twelve years after Kevin Smith turned the independent film world upside-down with his $27,000 black-and-white comedy, perpetual slackers Dante (Brian O'Halloran) and Randal (Jeff Anderson) return for another raucous romp in suburbia, but this time there's no beloved Quick Stop mini-mart to ensure their low-level employment. Now they're aimless 33-year-olds flippin' burgers at Mooby's, a fast-food joint with a cow theme that's "udderly delicious." Dante's engaged to his long-time girlfriend but has unexpectedly fallen in love with Mooby's manager Becky (and since she's played by Rosario Dawson, can you blame him?), and Randal's still holding out for life, liberty, and the pursuit of low ambition. The responsibilities of adulthood are rearing their ugly head, and with Jay and Silent Bob (Jason Mewes and Kevin Smith) still dealing weed and generally being obnoxious, well... something's gotta give, right? The way Smith has written this long-awaited follow-up, the dilemmas of Dante, Randal, and their ongoing friendship are something that anyone can relate to, and with Dawson lighting up the screen (in a role demanded by producer Harvey Weinstein to boost box-office appeal), the movie's romantic chemistry is surprisingly delightful. Rest assured, also, that Smith (shooting mostly in color this time, on a $5 million budget) hasn't forgotten where he came from: Clerks II is jam-packed with the same lewd, crude humor that made Clerks an indie-film phenomenon, and Smith's good-natured sincerity is still on full display, ensuring that only the most prudish viewers could possibly be offended. For everyone else, this is as enjoyable as any sequel could ever hope to be, with amusing cameos by Smith-movie veterans Ben Affleck and Jason Lee, among others. --Jeff Shannon

Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars Bit of a let down.......2007-06-10

The first Clerks movie was an indie classic. In the second one they basically butchered the characters and plot lines. There are a few good laughs and is pretty entertaning, but in comparison to the first movie, this one is not a good.

2 out of 5 stars Clerks 2 is a study in unnecessary sequels.......2007-05-29

The film opens with Dante and Randall pulling up to the Quick Stop and finding it burning down because Randall left the coffee pot on. Their lives as they know them are over... or are they? A year later they are now working at Mooby's a fast food chain, with their boss, the incredibly out-of-place Rosario Dawson. Dawson does her best to pull it off, but she's just too beautiful to belong in this movie, especially as a love interest for Dante Hicks. Fanboys and Mooby's employees can dream, but it's just too much of a stretch.

What's interesting is that it seems like the $5 million budget for Clerks 2 vs. the $28,000 budget for the original actually ends up negatively affecting the film. With more set pieces and more action, Smith doesn't seem to know what to do with his set. And bringing back Dante and Randall (Brian O'Halloran and Jeff Anderson) for another feature is just too much. He's already squeezed these characters dry of most interesting conversation after the first film, and their deadpan lack of delivery might have worked in a low budget black and white film, but here it's almost painful to listen to. There are still a few funny monologues and moments, but for the most part, Dante and Randall's complaining and bickering just comes off a bit screeching, especially considering that they're now in their thirties.

It seems like Kevin Smith hit a wall with Dogma. After a string of successful, low budget films, maybe Smith ran out of solid ideas, or maybe he just needs to refuel his creative juices. Going back to the well with his original characters the first time for Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back didn't prove very fruitful, so he set out to make some kind of romantic comedy-ish film with Jersey Girl, which flopped terribly, and now we're digging deeper into the well with Clerks 2, Smith's first sequel.

There are two discs, which makes for too much viewing really. There's a documentary about the making of Clerks 2 that's just as long as the movie itself, as well as a thirty minute blooper reel, with a few minutes of Jason Lee flubbing his lines, and showing that he just showed up to film for a few hours as a favor and is ready to get out of there.

Overall, Clerks 2 is an unneeded addition to the View Askew world and the rest of us could have done without it too. It needlessly adds to a story that concluded, and in fact detracts from the original. if you haven't already seen it, I'd recommend staying away, or asking someone that's seen it to tell you which few scenes are watchable and check those out.

5 out of 5 stars even better than the original.......2007-05-22

this is, in my opinion, the funniest kevin smith movie yet, a must have for fans of his movies

5 out of 5 stars Kevin Smith Strikes again.......2007-05-19

Clerks II rocked!! Plenty of KS jokes to quote later on. The characters ae awesome and he does a great job allowing Dante and Randall grow up a little. A no brainer for any who love Kevins movies.

3 out of 5 stars Doesn't hold up to the original 'Clerks'.......2007-04-26

Dante arrives to work at the Quick Stop to find it burning. After 10 years in a dead-end job, Dante and Randal are forced to find new employment. Clerks II is about their new jobs at Mooby's, a fast food restaurant. Jay and Silent Bob follow them, and are now hanging out at Mooby's too.

Dante is getting ready to leave for Florida with his new fiancé, a shallow girl with a personal problem Randal is quick to point out. Her father is going to pay for their new house and give Dante a carwash to run, so things are looking pretty cozy for Dante. Randal decides to celebrate Dante's departure with a "cross-species erotica show".

Will Dante actually leave New Jersey for Florida? Will he leave best friend Randal behind? Or is there actually something left in New Jersey to hold him there?

The charm in this movie is in the dialogue alone, plus the fact that they managed to get hottie Rosario Dawson to play Becky, Mooby's manager and Dante's good friend. The first 'Clerks' had the charm of black-and-white photography, and although made on a lower budget managed to keep a tighter rein on the storyline while appearing as if the entire movie was shot through a surveillance camera. 'Clerks II' is filmed in color, and lacks the charm of the first movie.

Interesting notes of the movie is the dialogue during the argument over Lord Of The Rings vs. Star Wars, plus the crazy scene with Randal's "going away gift". There are foul words and $exual references and a lot of cynical pottie mouths, but that's what 'Clerks' is all about. Unfortunately, other than Jay and Silent Bob, the cast didn't hold up well to the passing of time and lost a great deal of their charm. However, this movie is still funny, earning three and a half stars, but can't hold a candle to the first 'Clerks'. Enjoy!

If you're still eating that fast-food burger after watching Super Size Me, you might not feel too hungry after watching Fast Food Nation, a fictionalized feature based on Eric Schlosser's bestselling nonfiction expose. Director Richard Linklater, who cowrote the screenplay with Schlosser, guides a topnotch ensemble cast through a peek behind the veil of how that Big Mac is born. Much of the film focuses on the illegal immigrants who work in the loosely regulated meat-packing industry, and actors including the luminous Catalina Sandino Moreno (Maria Full of Grace), who plays a desperate but outraged laborer. Greg Kinnear also delivers a spot-on performance as a fast-food chain marketing manager, trying frantically to discover the source of stomach-turning contamination in the company's meat. Stories are woven in unexpected ways, and cameos by the likes of Kris Kristofferson, Patricia Arquette, and especially Bruce Willis keep the narrative fresh. The film has a point of view, but thanks to Linklater's deft touch, is never didactic. As Willis's character slyly says, "Most people don't like to be told what's best for them." Agreed, yet Fast Food Nation likely will help the viewer be more conscious of what's on the end of that fork. --A.T. Hurley

Description

Inspired by the incendiary New York Times bestseller that exposed the hidden facts behind America's fast food industry, Fast Food Nation combines an all-star ensemble cast lead by Greg Kinnear, Wilmer Valderrama and Avril Lavigne with riveting, interlocked human stories to serve up "a firecracker of a movie that jumps off the screen" (Rolling Stone). When a marketing executive (Kinnear) for the Mickey's burger chain is told there's a nasty secret ingredient in his latest culinary creation?"The Big One"? he heads for the ranches and slaughterhouses of Colorado to investigate...but discovers the truth a bit difficult to swallow.

1 out of 5 stars Self-righteous garbage.......2007-07-03

I hate to give this sanctimonious diatribe about the evils of capitalism one star, because it doesn't deserve any. Seriously, this is quite possibly the worst waste of time ever, I can see myself on my deathbed lamenting the time I wasted watching this worthless claptrap.

Schlosser's book was both informative and enlightening, but the movie, chocked full as it was with stereotypes and misguided, opinionated drivel, was neither. From the hapless, forlorn illegal immigrants and their abusive coyotes and supervisors to the stupid, idealistic kids to the greedy, uncaring company executives, the cast of characters seem to have been taken straight out of a stereotype catalog. And the constant refrain throughout the movie had very little to do with the fast food industry, except to repeatedly point out that "there is s#!t in the meat". More, it was a general stab at the capitalist system and the evils of for profit ventures. I wonder if Schlosser felt guilty about taking the money he was paid for having his book and his reputation slaughtered like the cattle in the closing scene. Which, BTW, was the only part of the whole movie that was not completely disingenuous, as the meat industry is pretty disgusting when you think about it. Not that I am a vegan or anything, mind you.

I can only assume, that if capitalism and profit are so horrible, that the producers of this, to use the term loosly, FILM, donated their take to worthy animal and human rights organizations. Otherwise they are not only lousy filmmakers, but hypocrites to boot. Maybe they would be happier in Cuba or North Korea or someplace like that.

On the bright side, no one can ever accuse Plan 9 from Outer Space or Robot Monster of being the worst movie ever. The bar has just been set to a new low.

5 out of 5 stars A must-see!.......2007-06-17

Those who see Fast Food Nation as simply a movie about hamburger or even the fast food industry miss the point. Fast Food nation uses the fast food industry as a metaphor for the degradation of EVERYTHING from the land to the lives of ranchers to the the people who work within the death machine which is modern corporate culture. It is broad in its scope, but it must be. The banding together of young people to fight the ills they saw through direct action gives hope for the future.

5 out of 5 stars A brilliant mutli-layered exploration of human beings linked by the fast food business.......2007-06-16

"Fast Food Nation" is a superb reworking of Eric Schlosser's 2001 book by Schlosser and director Richard Linklater.

Set mostly in and around the town of Cody on the Mexican-American border, "Fast Food Nation" follows three story threads all linked by the fast food business.

Mickey's burger chain has a problem - fecal matter in its burger patties -so it sends out its new marketing manager Don Henderson (Greg Kinnear) to find out what is going on at the meat packing plant that supplies all their patties.

Uni-Globe Meat Packers employes many illegal Mexican immigrants. The immigrants are exploited and brutalised by a the company - treated little better than the animals processed at the plant. An evil supervisor at the factory Mike (Bobby Cannavale) drives around in a red pickup, treats the Mexicans with contempt, and coerces women staff members into sex - he is like the devil himself and the factory can be seen as a kind of hell for the animals and workers.

Amber (Ashley Johnson) works on the counter at the Mickey's restaurant in Cody oblivious to the evils of the nearby meat-packing plant. Through some college friends and her uncle she is slowly awakened to the plight of the workers and animals, and prompted to take action.

"Fast Food Nation" features a number of brilliant cameos by Kris Kristofferson (rancher), Bruce Willis (tough company negotiator) and Ethan Hawke (Amber's uncle) but the entire cast is excellent. It also features a great score from "The Friends of Dean Martinez".

"Fast Food Nation" succeeds because - save for the evil supervisor Mike - it doesn't paint the good and bad guys in black and white. It doesn't offer easy answers either.

A brilliant, multi-layered film from creators Linklater and Schlosser.

1 out of 5 stars Terrible.......2007-06-13

This was by far one of the worst movies I have ever seen. Don't waste your time or money! I truly enjoyed the book, but the movie really had nothing to do with the book. The topic of "poopy" burgers was hardly addressed as the whole movie revolved around illegal immigrants. It was full of propaganda and rather un-American.

3 out of 5 stars urrrppp!.......2007-06-05

Warning: watching the last three minutes of this film can lead to vegetarianism. Based upon Eric Schlosser's devastating book about the fast food industry by the same title (2001), this fictional film never quite finds its focus. The ostensibly main character disappears half way through, never to reappear. It's not clear which of the many sub-plots is the main narrative. But I still recommend the movie. When corporate hack Don discovers that there are more than chemical additives to Mickeys "Big One" burger, namely fecal matter, he travels to the Uniglobe Meat Packing Company to find out what's wrong. Lots, it turns out. You'll find yourself back in Upton Sinclair's The Jungle (1906), what with illegal immigrant labor on the cheap, animal cruelty, horrible sanitation, hazardous work conditions, employee abuse, pitiless corporate greed, and more, all to feed our fast food habits. You'll never think about a Big Mac in the same way, nor should you, thanks to this mediocre movie that nevertheless provides some serious social commentary.

Based on a cable-channel Nickelodeon project, Good Burger teams Kel Mitchell and Kenan Thompson as a contemporary Abbott and Costello team, working a fast-food stand while competing with a major chain outlet right across the street. It's sight gags and physical humor galore, and while the film is aimed at kids there's no reason adults can't enjoy if caught in the right mood. --Tom Keogh

Description

GOOD BURGER is the story of two goofy friends, Dexter (Thompson) and Ed (Mitchell), while they spend their summer working at a local burger joint for some extra cash. When Mondo Burger, a mammoth fast-food chain opens across the street, it looks like Good Burger is soon going to be history. Now it is up to Dexter and Ed to save the day, as they develop a delicious special sauce that brings hundreds of new customers to their door and makes their new competition desperate to steal the recipe and all of their customers.

5 out of 5 stars Its Good Burger!.......2007-06-08

One of the only original and funny comedys of our time that is great for the whole family! Few movies actually are both funny and clean.

2 out of 5 stars It should be titled "Okay Burger".......2007-05-15

I got this movie for my 10 year old daughter who really likes it. If your getting this for kids then it's probably worth it. Just don't pay too much!!! About a week after I ordered this movie, I saw it in the bargain bin of a local store for $5...!

Lots of silly stuff but not so much funny stuff.

5 out of 5 stars Yeah, this is brilliant.......2007-04-19

There are very few movies that make me fall off my chair and giggle profusely. This is one of them. I don't know why I giggle so much at this ridiculous movie. It is so silly. Yeah, so... so... silly. But I find it so, so charming.

But why? There are so many ridiculous puns. There is nothing on this blue and green Earth that I like more than puns and this movie provides them either intentionally or unintentionally. SAUCE!!! etc... I cab;t think of many of them now because I am still chuckling from the after-effects of this deleightful film.

It is just absurd beyond comparison, well every single film about teenagers with a PG rating would be, but unlike many other films, the toned down language and situations of this film provide it with additional pun fodder and additional charm. The formulaic story and the formulaic characters are all groovy with me.

I am not even high or drunk, but this movie intoxicates me with a bizarre laughter. Kenan and Kel have made me happy today. BRILLIANT!

5 out of 5 stars Cheesy but SO FUNNY!.......2007-04-02

My 5-year old loves this movie and I know I loved it when I was younger! It can be cheesy at parts but i havent laughed so hard at a kids movie in years! Definetly worth buying!

3 out of 5 stars Good Burger silly but fun.......2007-01-18

If you're looking for intellectual stimulating theater, this is definitely not the film to choose. If you want an incredibly silly, funny, and perhaps a bit stupid light-hearted movie, this is the one to watch. My 10 and 14 year old kids laughed the entire length of the film. There's no violence, nudity or sex; it's a great film for preteens and teens.

Half of the characters in this 1988 John Landis potboiler seem to be played either by Eddie Murphy or costar Arsenio Hall, swaddled in elaborate Rick Baker makeup appliances that render them unrecognizable but also weirdly immobile. As a pampered African prince who journeys incognito to Queens, New York, to find a bride who will love him just for himself, Murphy manages to look smug and naive at the same time. There are enjoyable sequences of Murphy's Prince Akeem applying his lordly manner to his new job in a fast-food emporium, and falling for the boss's spirited daughter (Shari Headley), who teaches him how to party down, American style. But the fish-out-water premise is never fully exploited. Star spotters will have a field day locating Cuba Gooding Jr., Donna Summer, Louie Anderson, Vondie Curtis Hall, E.R.'s Eriq La Salle, and Samuel L. Jackson in their minuscule supporting roles. --David Chute

3 out of 5 stars Entertaining Movie.......2007-06-28

This is an entertaining movie. Not a great comedy, although there are some laughs. It is a very good story about an African Prince coming to America to find a bride because he wants someone to love him for him and not his position or wealth. You want to see what will happen next and how it is going to end. You will enjoy the story, much more than the comedy.

1 out of 5 stars I LOVE this movie and have for a long time but this HD version is too expensive for what you don't really get.......2007-06-06

OK - I have to start off saying my rating is for the HD VERSION of the movie - NOT FOR THE MOVIE ITSELF - this movie is a CLASSIC, BUT I wanted to save some folks a few $$$. I purchased the HD-DVD version of this and I run it on my New XBox 360 Elite in 1080P (with the external HD-DVD drive and most current firmware) on a DLP TV. I just got the matrix, and have some older films like he Jerk, and as you know, there is only so-much you can do with older films that were not filmed in digital format. HOWEVER this being said - the vieo quality is ONP PAR with my original DVD of the movie I have from 8+ years ago. It is NOT A BIT BETTER PICTURE AT ALL - in fact for comparison I put in my old DVD and with the up-convert on my normal DVD player (and in lower resolution) it was just as clear. I will admit that the audio is much nicer on the HD-DVD version, but frankly this HD-DVD version is 100% more in price than the Special edition of the regular DVD. There is nothing here for extras that are of any consequence.

Overall - BUY THE MOVIE, just unless you really want an HD-Copy of this buy the regular DVD of it and buy another classic Eddie Murphy - say Trading Places and enjoy twice the content for the same price!

4 out of 5 stars EDDIE, EDDIE, EDDIE.......2007-05-08

I love Eddie and he did not disappoint in this movie. Got a deal from Amazon and always check here before ordering anything.

5 out of 5 stars One of the all time classics.......2007-04-30

"Coming to America" has all the ingredients of a great comedy- well cast characters, a good story and of course, plenty of genuine belly laughs. It bears up to repeated viewings and most of the supporting characters get the best lines as Murphy plays it pretty straight (at least as Akeem). Fans of the even greater Murphy comedy "Trading Places" will love the scene along the riverfront.

5 out of 5 stars My All Time Favorite Movie!!.......2007-04-30

When this movie orginally appeared in 1988, I was among the first in line on my college campus to see it, I stood in line hours before the tickets went on sale! It was WELL worth it, and as each of my friends got around to seeing it, I would go with them to watch it over and over again because it was such a great movie. Never before had I seen Africans (or African Amercians) portrayed in such a beautiful and positive light. All of the actors and actresses were suberb, the story line was great and the movie was also extremely funny and enjoyable! Eddie Murphy's best work in my opinion. When I found a copy of this film on sale at my local video store, I knew I had to have it for my children, who are now teenagers. They absolutely LOVE it, and have watched it several times! They love to sing the "Soul Glo" tune. This film was Eddie Murphy's "GIFT" to his people.

3 out of 5 stars Long and talky, but with some hilarious moments.......2007-05-13

I liked II better than the original. Definitely worth seeing. Very talkative at times and the humor is hit and miss. Enough funny moments to make it worth watching, and it features a rather nice, heartwarming ending.

The HD DVD looks terrific, and the 2 disc set (!) features terrific extras.

5 out of 5 stars As good if not better than the original.......2007-03-29

If you're a Kevin Smith / Jay and Silent Bob fan, this is a must for your collection. Humor in the movie is non stop. The quality of the audio and video is excellent.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent sequel, excellent HD-DVD........2007-02-16

While Kevin Smith's follow-up to Clerks doesn't quite capture the zeitgeist like his earlier effort did, it is still an excellent comedy. Smith has grown up along with his characters (and his fans) and it shows. This deals with more mature areas of friendship and love in more mature ways. That said, there is still plenty of Smith's trademark verbal exchanges dealing with everything from Lord of the Rings to interspecies erotica.

All of the extras on the HD-DVD are also in 1080p HD which is a nice bonus. As is par for the course with Smith and his ViewAskew cronies we get excellent audio commentaries. Here, we even get three of them, all very entertaining.

5 out of 5 stars Different movie, same great characters.......2007-02-13

All fans of the first film should see Clerks 2. Not only is it really funny, but it's about people just a little older than me who haven't really done anything with their lives, and what they finally choose to do. There is also a donkey show, and everybody loves those! Some thought this might not match up to the first movie, but it truly is the logical extension of the characters' lives. Despite the comedy, Clerks 2 makes me a little sad because it reminds me of my own problems. The picture quality is very nice, even with the strange color filters, and the special features - entirely in HD - are incredible. Keep on clerkin'.

2 out of 5 stars Good Picture Quality But Not Funny.......2007-02-01

I have to say the quality of the movie as far as picture and sound is just about perfect. I however didnt laugh at all during the whole movie. It is predictable and full of stupid characters. I guess its for fans only.

Enjoy!

Think of Scotland, PA. as truck-stop Shakespeare, Macbeth given a drive-through makeover as the deadliest of deadpan comedies. Writer-director Billy Morrissette got this wacky idea from an early job at Dairy Queen. He makes the most of that bad memory by casting his own wife (ER's Maura Tierney) and indie stalwart James LeGros as Pat and Mac McBeth, a married pair of Pennsylvanian schemers, circa 1973, who plot to escape their thankless jobs at Duncan's burger joint. They dispatch Duncan in a sizzling accident (you want fries with that corpse?) and inherit the diner from Duncan's stoner son (who's also a suspect), hoping to prove to Detective McDuff (Christopher Walken, at his funniest) that their newfound happiness is entirely legal. Like The Big Lebowski, this movie's hilarious if you're in on the joke, and familiarity with Shakespeare is optional when you've got a "rock block" of Bad Company hits to keep the grisly comedy on track. --Jeff Shannon

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Magnificent Modern Macbeth.......2007-05-13

This Shakespearian adaptation updates Macbeth to the 1970's and puts him in a diner in Scotland, PA. Macbeth's ambivalent ambition but submission to his sexy wife (played formidably by former ER nurse, Maura Tierney) is developed nicely in this film. It is easily understood by a modern audience. Christopher Walken is hysterical as vegeterian Detective MacDuff and makes Macduff a vivid, rounded character.

Note to teachers: preview the film before showing it to students. There is cursing and there are two scenes which you may find questionable and want to censor. I think it is fine for High School Juniors and Seniors, but more conservative teachers/ districts may object to it.

3 out of 5 stars "We're Not Bad People, We're Just Underachievers That Have To Make-Up For Lost Time" ~ Shakespeare For The Fast Food Generation.......2007-04-25

`Scotland, PA' released in '01 is a dark, witty, black comedy that redefines Shakespeare for a new generation. Well not really, but overt Shakespearean elements are definitely present in this wonderfully quirky, highly enjoyable Indie film starring James LeGros, Maura Tierney and the always wacky Christopher Walken.

Synopsis: James and Maura star as Mac and Pat McBeth (doesn't that reference slap you right in the face). Mac and Pat both work at a diner in Scotland, U.S.A. There growing dissatisfaction with the owners hiring decisions finally pushes the couple over the edge when he announces the appointment of his teenage son to the vacant manager position instead of Mac. Aided by the advice of three imaginary hippies (McBeth's witches) that appear and disappear at pivotal moments in the storyline poor, confused Mac and Pat decide to rob the diner and use the money to begin a new life somewhere else. However their little robbery inadvertently turns into murder and from that moment on their plans take on drastic and unforeseen changes. Unexpectedly an out-of-town Lieutenant named Mc Duff (Christopher Walken) is assigned to the case and things progress from bad to worse when he begins asking too many questions.

`Scotland, PA' is a clever film with lots of inventive twists and turns. It does however lose a little steam towards the end which is why it receives -3 1/2 Stars- instead of 4.

5 out of 5 stars one of my favorite movies.......2007-03-09

This movie is hilarious, Christopher Walken is great in this film! Plus, the soundtrack is absolutely amazing. If you like classic rock such as Bad Company and The Marshall Tucker Band then this film is for you. Rock block, baby, yeah!

5 out of 5 stars Great movie, quick delivery.......2006-11-10

One of the greatest movies ever made that not too many people have heard of. It was delivered relatively quickly in perfect condition

5 out of 5 stars Macbeth retold.......2006-08-27

This wonderfully bizarre movie is a loose retelling of Macbeth. Instead of fighting to take over a kingdom, the main character, Mac, is taking over a fast food joint from his lazy boss in the 1970s. It contains the f word a few too many times, but is a wonderfully dark and funny movie. The soundtrack, consisting of many classic songs, contributes strongly to the movie.

"Scotland, PA" gets better after a couple of viewings, allowing some of the subtle gags become more clear. One example of a subtle joke in this movie is the fact that most of the characters drive classic Chevy Camaros, and one of the songs in the soundtrack is "Beach Baby," which includes lyrics about everyone driving a Chevrolet.

My wife and I rented this movie on a night when we couldn't find anything else worth watching. As soon as we returned the rented DVD, we rushed out an bought a copy.

Could a title be any more direct? New Zealand maverick Peter Jackson made a splash (well, more of a splatter) with this film debut, a slapstick gross-out comedy about an alien fast-food franchise that turns a small town into a cheap source of meat. All that stands in the extraterrestrials' way is the Alien Investigation Defense Service (yes, it's a tasteless gag), a bunch of would-be Rambos who take on the aliens with axes, rocket launchers, and chainsaws. Jackson mines vomit jokes, dismembered corpses, and brain-spattering gore for over-the-top laughs and succeeds with inventive low-budget effects, crack timing, and sheer exuberance. Not bad for a film made on weekends with homemade props and a bunch of energetic mates. Jackson topped himself a few years later with the even more outrageous and hilarious bloody gut-buster Dead Alive.

The limited-edition two-disc set also includes the documentary featurette "Good Taste Made Bad Taste," a revealing "making of" shot at the time of production and featuring behind-the-scenes footage of Jackson's home-made special effects, and a 16-page booklet with cast interviews. --Sean Axmaker

Customer Reviews:

1 out of 5 stars Worse then evildead ?.......2007-01-25

When an army of evil aliens invades earth intending to sell humans as intergalactic hamburger meat, the New Zealand government calls in an elite team of psychotic assassins. But are these boys brutal enough to tackle the vilest villains in the universe? From director Peter Jackson (Lord of the Rings), it's the ultimate battle of flying guts, splattering brains, exploding sheep and guzzling vomit.

This is a horror-comedy that fails miserably: it's not the least bit suspenseful or funny. The special effects are bad, they are DISASTEROUS!!! Everything in this film is a failure: acting, music, pacing, effects, editing, camera work, etc...A complete and total disappointment.

4 out of 5 stars Peter Jackson's First.......2007-01-20

This movie marked the debut of New Zealand's greatest director, Peter Jackson. He's come a long way since making this low-budget aliens-from-outer-space movie.

It's a lot of campy, gory fun. Jackson established his trademark humor-and-horror style with this piece of shlock cinema. Since then, he's moved on the bigger things. But better things? Not if you're a devotee of midnight slasher movies. I hope that someday he returns his low-budget, gore-and-splatter roots.

4 out of 5 stars Bad Taste.......2007-01-10

I was pleased with the movie and delivery method. However, the disc holder was broken and the disc was loose when I received it. Otherwise, I was very pleased.

5 out of 5 stars disgusting and brilliant!.......2007-01-03

it was hard for me to beleive that bad taste was directed by peter jackson, the director of the amazing lord of the rings trilogy. bad taste was jackson's directorial debut. the film has that homemade feel, except for the special effecs and camera angles and directing wich are done pretty professionally. the movie is about a group of lame brain special agents fighting aliens who are planning on using earthlings as fast food. the movie is definately not for the faint of heart. the gore effects are pretty gross, especially the scenes of brains oozing out of broken open heads. there are also decapitations, dismemberments, disembowlments and a very disgusting scene were one of the agents enters and exits an alien by use of chainsaw. bad taste is a disgusting, gory, and very enjoyable film if you dont take it seriously(wich would be very hard to do). get out the barf bag and enjoy.

4 out of 5 stars A Storyteller with Uniquely Bizarre Vision.......2006-11-07

No one who watches this gross-out horror comedy can doubt that Peter Jackson is a director with vision, although the leap from this "made in the garage" film to "Lord of the Rings" is nearly unimaginable. The sheer camp and simplicity of this film deserves respect, even while you're holding one hand in front of your face!
