Description
When Martin Scorsese, one of the world's most skillful and respected directors, reunited with two-time Oscar-winner Robert De Niro in GoodFellas, the result was one of the most powerful films of the year. Based on the true-life best seller Wiseguy by Nicholas Pileggi and backed by a dynamic pop/rock oldies soundtrack, critics and filmgoers alike declared GoodFellas great. It was named 1990's best film by the New York, Los Angeles and National Society of Film Critics. And it earned six Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture and Best Director. Robert De Niro received wide recognition for his performance as veteran criminal Jimmy "The Gent" Conway. And as the volatile Tommy DeVito, Joe Pesci walked off with the Best Supporting Actor Oscar. Academy Award nominee Lorraine Bracco, Ray Liotta and Paul Sorvino also turned in electrifying performances. You have to see it to believe it - then watch it again. GoodFellas explores the criminal life like no other movie.

Blu Ray version delivers.......2007-06-27
I bought the movie because of 2 things:
1. It is already one of the best gangster movies ever
2. It came out on blu ray
Blu ray quality looks great, and you can see all these tiny details that come out when you see things clearer in the backgrounds
Good Blu-Ray Transfer.......2007-04-12
You all know the plot of Goodfellas; so what makes this worth getting on Blu-Ray? This is a great transfer to Blu-Ray - with the Aspect Ratio at 1.85:1 this movie fills the entire screen of a typical LCD/plasma. Watching it again was like watching it for the first time. The colors were brighter and the picture sharper. A must have to start your Blu-Ray collection.
AMAZING! .......2007-03-15
Great Movie , Great Masterpiece , Best of all its on this BLU-RAY version has an amazing picture ! A MUST BUY !
The Best Mob Movie Ever.......2007-02-20

I Didn't Care for This Movie.......2007-05-09
I purchased this movie for my daughter. My friend recommended it; she said it was one of her favorite movies in high school (many moons ago). I've only caught bits and pieces of it, but in short, Katherine Heigl goes on vacation with her father, Gerard Depardieu, and she leads everyone at the vacation resort to believe that her Dad is her lover, in order to catch the attention of a young and handsome hottie at the resort. Katherine Heigl's character is also a compulsive liar in the movie; it doesn't seem to bother her that everyone at the resort thinks her Dad is a pervert (because they think they are a couple). My daughter likes this movie and asks to watch it frequently, but I'm not very fond of it.
Awsome.......2007-01-04
This movie is so good and funny..I have loved this movie since it has came out..
Thank Heaven For Little Girls .......2006-08-16
(3.5/5 stars) Gerard Depardieu is Andre, the father who is so desperate to have his daughter, Nicole, back as his little girl again that he plays along when she pretends he is her lover in order to make the guy she likes jealous. Very cute movie, with some funny moments as initially everyone except Depardieu knows about Nicole's little ploys. Katherine Heigl is a good choice for Nicole, a teenager embarrassed by her father and anxious to make her summer vacation memorable. Not exactly thought provoking material, but pleasant and enjoyable all around. Sure to please its intended audience, based on other reviews here. Maurice Chevalier would be glad.
I love this movie.......2005-12-26
I got this dvd for Christmas. It was the best gift I got! I have been watching this since I was seven. It just so cute and you can watch it a million times and you still laugh! its so cute. I also have been looking everywhere for the sound track, I know a lot of the songs are by the Baha Men, but I would like to know if you can still get the sound track. If anyone knows how to get it please E-mail me!! Dalton James is so cute in this movie.
Adorable! Sweet! Hilarious!.......2005-09-02
Fourteen year old Nicole's parents are divorced and her French father, Andre, is taking her on a tropical vacation to the Bahamas. Reluctantly, Nikki leaves her mother in New York City for the ten day getaway. She is at the height of her adolescence and she's anything but excited to be in a place that is filled with "old people" as she puts it to her father. While there, she meets seventeen year old Ben, and she's instantly infatuated with him. Wanting to impress her crush, Nikki tells him that she is slightly older than she actually is, and that her father is not her dad, but her boyfriend! Nikki persuades her father into going along with the whole charade, and soon enough, the entire resort finds out and they are absolutely repulsed by the fact that a man of Andre's age has such a young "girlfriend." Hilarious situations and a number of laughs make this movie a winner. One of my all time favorites.

Amazon.com essential video
Out of Sight scored critical raves, but its title sums up the theatrical fate of Steven Soderbergh's coolly comic crime caper and misfit romance based on Elmore Leonard's novel. But this is the sort of buried treasure home video was created to rescue.
George Clooney comes into his own as a leading man in the role of inveterate bank robber Jack Foley. Incarcerated, he uses another inmate's prison break as a cover for his own escape. Waiting for him, according to plan, is his partner, Buddy (Ving Rhames). Also waiting for him, not according to plan, is federal agent Karen Sisco (the ravishing Jennifer Lopez). She finds herself disarmed in more ways than one when she is deposited in the getaway car's trunk with Jack. But that doesn't stop her from joining the task force created to capture him, while he plans "one last heist."
Out of Sight is a rich, entertaining film, stylish without being showy, faithful to the integrity of Leonard's potent dialogue and quirky characters, and seamlessly acted by a dream ensemble. Standouts include Albert Brooks as convicted insider trader Richard Ripley, who while in prison brags to the wrong people that he has $5 million in uncut diamonds hidden in his house; Don Cheadle as Maurice (don't call him "Snoopy") Miller, with whom Jack warily teams up to steal said diamonds; Dennis Farina as Karen's protective father (his idea of a birthday gift is a Sig-Hauer .38); and, in unbilled cameos, Michael Keaton, reprising his Jackie Brown role as FBI agent Ray Nicolet, and Samuel L. Jackson.
If you liked Get Shorty and Jackie Brown, you'll find this, well, Out of Sight. --Donald Liebenson
Amazon.com
Out of Sight was one of the best movies of 1998, but ironically this superior crime comedy was a box-office disappointment. Fortunately the movie can enjoy a long life on home video, where it can be savored by anyone who missed its original release. Making his best film since 1989's sex, lies, and videotape, director Steven Soderbergh pays tribute to the signature wit and intricacy of Elmore Leonard's novel, brilliantly adapted by Scott Frank, the gifted screenwriter who previously adapted Leonard's Get Shorty. The movie's a prime showcase for the talent and chemistry of George Clooney and Jennifer Lopez, respectively playing a career bank robber who's escaped from jail and the federal agent who falls for his charms while tracking him down. Soderbergh directs with confident visual flair, shifting time- lines (à la Pulp Fiction) to weave together subplots and maintain vivid focus on Leonard's splendid characters and smooth-as-silk dialogue. While the sexy repartée between Clooney and Lopez recalls the vintage interplay of Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall, Ving Rhames and Steve Zahn add ample comic relief as Clooney's accomplices. Dennis Farina is memorable as Lopez's father, and Albert Brooks is almost unrecognizable as a Wall Street crook whose mansion--and a cache of uncut diamonds--provides the setting for the film's climactic caper. As orchestrated by Soderbergh, the film offers a feast of plot twists and surprises, but it never loses track of its delightful characters and the clever wit that brings them so vividly to life. The Collector's Edition DVD includes commentary by Soderbergh, deleted scenes, production notes, theatrical trailers, and more. --Jeff Shannon
Customer Reviews:
HD DVD gives film rich upgrade.......2007-06-17
Out of Sight is one of my favorite Clooney flicks- George Clooney in an Elmore Leonard flick with the typical set of convoluted characters in both high and low places is a fun film. The Universal HD-DVD is gorgeous! The rich colors of Miami pop on my big screen tv at 1080i and remind me why I can't be bothered to spend $10 per ticket to go to a theater anymore!
I liked the fact that Universal doesn't clutter up the disk with any annoying intros that you can't fast forward through- Warner Brothers does that.
Better than I expected.......2007-05-02
I first saw this movie in a cheap second-run theater in Columbus, Ohio, where nothing else I remotely wanted to see was playing. On the way in, I was highly skeptical about the combined talents of Jennifer Lopez and George Clooney.
On the way out, I was hailing Clooney as the new Cary Grant, and had a fresh appreciation for Lopez' charms. This sharp, clever film offers a host of pleasures--suspense, romance, and some witty dialogue. The story is not always told chronologically, but the narrative quirkiness adds to the movie's appeal.
After seeing Out of Sight, I started to seek out all of director Steven Soderbergh's movies, and have found almost all of them as consistently entertaining.
great movie for multiple viewing.......2007-04-09
I saw this movie for umpteenth time just recently (my seventh, I think). George Clooney (Good Night, Good Luck,
O Brother, Where Art Thou?) is delicious in it, Jennifer Lopez (The Wedding Planner, Selena) proves her rising star power, and Steven Soderberg (The Good German, Ocean's Eleven) as a director manages to delight, as always. This movie never ages and the jokes never become old. I could watch it over and over and be entertained.
Wonderful!.......2007-04-04
One of George Clooney's best movies! The chemistry between George and Jennifer Lopez is wonderful and the dialogue is crisp and clean. A lot of sexual tension between them and they pull it off wonderfully!
Oh, and the bathtub scene with George is not to be missed!
Great movie!!
A classic movie with a great cast!.......2007-01-16
Author Elmore "Dutch" Leonard has written over forty novels in about as many years, most of which have been turned into feature films. To my knowledge, only four of his crime thrillers have been turned into successful movies: 52 Pick-up, Get Shorty, Jackie Brown, and Out of Sight. Whatever the magic is that Mr. Leonard puts into each of his books, few directors are able to capture it on screen. The same thing can be said for the novels by Stephen King. Only a handful of well-made movies come to mind. When the magic is captured, it's a truly amazing experience to behold in the arena of movie making. Out of Sight, starring George Clooney and Jennifer Lopez, is one of these rare experiences where everything comes together perfectly. The director, Steven Soderbergh, and screenplay writer, Scott Frank, were able to stay true to Leonard's words, as well as being able to transfer the heart and soul of the story to the big screen. Though it seems like few people actually saw this film when it was released theatrically, this is the movie that I think made major stars out of Clooney and Lopez, not to mention boosting the careers of Don Cheadle and Steve Zahn and Ving Rhames. Out of Sight, like Get Shorty and Jackie Brown, is now considered a classic to fans of the "crime caper." This is a movie that you want to have in your film library.
Out of Sight deals with Jack Foley (played by Clooney), the country's most successful bank robber. When Jack escapes from a Florida correction's facility, he accidentally runs into Federal Marshal, Karen Sisco (played by Lopez), who's at the prison to serve some papers. Unable to leave her behind, Jack and his pal, Buddy (played by Rhames), toss her into the trunk of her own car. Jack climbs in behind her, and Buddy quickly drives the car away from the prison and to safety. It's during the trunk ride that Jack and Karen develop feelings for each other, each realizing the impossibility of the situation. After the getaway, Jack refuses to forget Karen and what the experience meant to him. This eventually leads Karen to Detroit, where she hopes to arrest Jack before he can pull off one last score. Of course, both of them have to call a time out in order to see if there's any real chemistry in their relationship and, boy, is there! Unfortunately, Jack has to go ahead with the final robbery and Karen will have to arrest him, if she gets the opportunity. No one ever said love would be easy.
Though George Clooney has done a number of extremely successful films since Out of Sight, I still consider this movie to be his best. He captured the charm and wit of Jack Foley to a tee and made you believe that a bank robber and a Federal Marshal could actually fall in love with each other. Jennifer Lopez was also at her best in this movie. She shined with beauty and intellect and determination as a Federal Marshal who's prepared to shoot the man she loves, if it comes down to that. Don Cheadle brought the character of Maurice (aka Snoopy) alive in such a way that you couldn't help but like him, even though he's the bad guy. That's a tough job to do for any actor. I will say that Steve Zahn came close to stealing every scene that he was in as the pot-smoking Glenn Michaels, making you laugh out loud at his realistic, yet funny behavior. The cast was simply perfect all the way around, bringing special nuances to their characters that made them stand out. There were even cameo appearances by Michael Keaton, reviving his role as Ray Nicolette, the ATF agent from the movie, Jackie Brown, plus Samuel L. Jackson in a short, but powerful scene at the end that brings a hopeful smile to your face. This is also the movie that established a partnership between Steven Soderbergh and George Clooney. They would go on to make several more hit movies together after this one. Out of Sight is definitely the type of film that you can watch over and over again. It'll make you laugh, while keeping you on the edge of your seat for the final showdown. I only wish that Hollywood could make more movies like this. The extras include a thirty-minute behind the scenes documentary, plus twenty minutes of deleted scenes and a movie commentary with its director and screenwriter.

Party Monster is a curiosity: a fictional version of events already covered in documentary form (see Party Monster: The Shockumentary) by this film's co-directors, Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato, best known for The Eyes of Tammy Faye. Party Monster, theatrically released in 2003, also signals the return of Macaulay Culkin to films after a long absence. Culkin plays 1980s club kid-turned-killer Michael Alig, a small-town boy who arrives in New York in search of reinvention on the Ecstasy-fueled party scene. Alig ascends from rube to ringmaster, organizing Fabulous happenings and anointing, in Warhol-like fashion, various transvestites and studly naifs the era's new superstars. Seth Green plays Alig's arch but more reticent co-conspirator and roommate, James St. James. Green is more grounded in character than Culkin, though neither actor is convincing as a deluded drag queen. Despite interesting material, the directors never reveal what makes Alig a compelling figure in Manhattan's social history. --Tom Keogh

Bitter Sweet.......2007-05-15
Okay, I'm going to sound contradicting here, but hear me out... This has to be, by far, the WORST acting I have ever seen in my whole thirty-six years of being, HOWEVER, it contains comedic genius from Marilyn Manson, charm, wit and strange intrigue of Macaulay Culkin, as well as a fantastic soundtrack that is worth putting-up with the bad acting, all in itself. I happen to be a big fan of the "Club Kids", including Michael Alig, James St. James and DJ Keoki, so it helps to know this is based on their whirlwind lives (although I honestly wasn't aware of that until I watched the additional features) (doh!)... Most definitely a cult classic!
Rent it first........2007-04-16
It's worth seeing this movie if you like Seth Green. He's just adorable in it. It's an interesting movie that might be stuck in your head for a while after watching. Mostly you might be saying "Why did I watch that?". If you like watching different movies then go for this one. I wouldn't recommend buying it though.
Grossly unpleasant.......2007-03-02
To see Macaulay Culkin in a tight little shirt and short tight shorts is just revolting. This was just not for me. I've like Seth Green in every other role I've seen him in, but this was too much. Seemed like a well done movie overall, but I couldn't watch more than about 1/3 of it.
Interesting, disturbed and honest.......2006-12-19
These were the type of emotions that I had felt watching this movie. I have never was privilaged to view so much drug use in my life, but I was not a club kid. I was facinated to see the life of a club kid protrayed in such an honest way if this is the life it is. I felt very sorry for the people that were involved with each other and thier tattered, addicted lives. I am giving this movie 4 stars for the honesty and the acting of the actors in a way that it was believable.
Pleasantly Surprised.......2006-11-14
If you expect to watch a plot driven movie, this is not for you. This film uses a murder to draw you into the time of the Club Kids, a time when it only mattered if you were seen.
I sat down to watch this out of boredom. I am not a fan of Macaulay Culkin and did not think I would last the entire film. Instead, after writing this review, I will be watching Party Monster again.
This film is almost as much about the time as it is about the people. Michael Alig and James St. James happened to be the people who took us to the late 80s, early 90's pre-Giuliani New York night club scene in this film. My exposure to the Club Kids prior to viewing this film was limited. I had managed to see them on Joan Rivers and thought what they were doing was a cool idea, just living to be seen, in a sense. The young men and women were existing for the next party, the next person to give them attention and the next high (both natural and chemically induced).
This movie transports you to a time and place that most of us will never experience, and it manages to do it quite well. The beginning and end did not fit in with the rest of the film and the attempt to bookend the film did not quite work out well, although the end did tie in reminder that Alig only cares for attention in case we had forgotten what his driving force is. I still found these scenes to be tacked on. They did help me travel from now back to the time period of the film and back again but it still seemed a bit disjointed.
Make no mistake, this film is low budget. This was especially obvious in a couple of scenes that take place outside the club on the street. I could almost see the tape for the roped off area, the lack of natural foot traffic was obvious. The two main actors (Seth Green and Culkin) both had several scenes where it was clear they had not had time to work on practicing their lines, and that rehearsals were needed (the beginning of the first scene in the fast food joint comes to mind).
I was surprised at the performances by Chloë Sevigny (yes, gay men can have friends that are girls), Dylan McDermott (who played an excellent role in Wonderland -- another low budget gem, around the same time) and Marilyn Manson as Christina.
This is a good movie to view if you want to leave the world you are in for a couple hours, but a better budget would have really helped this film.

Product Description
Film adaptation of street tough Jim Carroll's epistle about his kaleidoscopic free fall into the harrowing world of drug addiction. As a member of a seemingly unbeatable high school basketball squad, Jim's life centers around the basketball court and the court becomes a metaphor for the world in his mind. A best friend who is dying of leukemia, a coach ("Swifty") who takes unacceptable liberties with the boys on his team, teenage sexual angst, and an unhealthy appetite for heroin -- all of these begin to encroach on young Jim's dream of becoming a basketball star. Soon, the dark streets of New York become a refuge from his mother's mounting concern for her son. He can't go home and his only escape from the reality of the streets is heroin for which he steals, robs and prostitutes himself. Only with the help of Reggie, an older neighborhood friend with whom Jim "picked up a game" now and then, is he able to begin the long journey back to sanity.
Amazon.com
The pre-Titanic Leonardo DiCaprio stars as Jim Carroll, the poet and musician who spent much of his adolescence addicted to heroin and shooting hoops with fellow Catholic high school kids. As a biography, the film doesn't amount to more than the sum of its gritty scenes of smack use, violence, perversions (poor Bruno Kirby plays a lecherous coach who comes on to young Jim), and the usual scream-and-puke dramas that go along with a cold-turkey session. Director Scott Kalvert doesn't seem to realize that most people don't know who Carroll is and therefore can't possibly understand why they should care about his gutterball youth. DiCaprio, having nowhere to go with his performance but maintain Carroll's tailspin, is boring and redundant. Some kind of allusion to the literary and rock & roll life that follows the mess we're watching might have been helpful. --Tom Keogh
Customer Reviews:
Excellent movie.......2007-06-27
Leonardo DiCaprio is outstanding in this coming of age drama. A must see for the young and old alike.
The best actor!.......2007-06-13
This movie is amazing, the talented Mr. Dicaprio really gave an outstanding performance
Addiction:.......2007-03-12
This is a powerful video regarding the depths to which one may fall due to addiction. Well acted, and moving.
Awful.......2007-03-11
Bad, bad, bad.
Bad acting, bad writing, bad directing.
I was sort of neutral about DiCaprio until I saw this steaming pile of bad acting. Consequently, since seeing this, I haven't voluntarily watched another DiCaprio performance.
It was a huge mistake by the director (or the screen writer) to NOT set this in the era in which Jim Carroll grew up. Or if it was meant to be, it failed astoundingly with glaring anachronisms.
the basketball diaries.......2007-01-11
I love that movie it has heart and soul about one young man.

For Red Sox Nation, this boxed set may be a book out of their own personal bible: the tale of their deliverance from decades of wandering through baseball's metaphorical desert. Forget the Pharaohs--the curse of the Bambino had been enough to keep Red Sox fans dying of thirst while their nemeses, the New York Yankees, seemed to waltz right into the Promised Land again and again. And then, finally, after 86 years, the Red Sox are champions, and here's their chronicle: The Boston Red Sox 2004 World Series Collector's Edition DVD boxed set, the first collection of complete, unedited MLB games on DVD.
For the devoted fan, this is your holy grail: all seven games of the incredible American League Championship Series against the Yankees, and the four World Series games against the St. Louis Cardinals. The material is fresh out of the broadcast booth: it's pure footage of the full games, unedited, and complete (minus the commercials), so you don't miss a single pitch. Forget the endless narratives and annoying camera cuts of the average sports highlight DVD; this is nothing but the games.
MLB wisely configured the discs so you can navigate by the half-inning, moving straight to your favorite highlights without sacrificing anything from the game. Watch only the at-bats you want and set up your own personal highlight reel out of the moments you choose. Going one better than TiVO, the boxed set also includes a generously packed bonus disc, featuring the 2004 World Series Film, narrated by Denis Leary, as well as 13 other extra features including footage of the post-victory celebrations and the 2005 Ring & Banner Ceremony. Even the packaging is custom-made for fans, featuring "SleeveStats" that contain complete inning-by-inning line scores, detailed box scores, team trivia, and much more at a glance on the DVD cover. It's like a baseball card on steroids. For baseball fans, this is the complete package and then some. --Dan Vancini
Customer Reviews:
Solace during the next 86-year drought; and not just the Series!.......2007-06-14
There are roughly 3 million people in the metropolitan Boston area. Maybe 80% of them are Red Sox fans, so there are 2.4 million or so of us, along with untold but probably similar numbers elsewhere across North America. (Go to a Red Sox game far from Boston and you'll see almost as many Red Sox fans as there are fans for the local team -- as long as you're not in Yankee Stadium.)
If you're a member of the aptly-named Red Sox Nation, this DVD set is for you, because it's NOT just the 2004 World Series. It's everything you really want, which probably doesn't incude the four-game sweep of the Cardinals at all. It wisely includes the whole seven game series against the Yankees, and that's certainly why I bought it.
True citizens of Red Sox Nation hate the Yankees in exact proportion to their love for the Red Sox. So even though I saw Game 5 in person and the watched rest on TV, and even though I missed seeing the last two games of the World Series due to a business trip to Italy, it's the Yankees games that I love to watch.
The video quality is so-so. The 12- and 14-inning games between the Sox and the Yankees are so long that they wouldn't fit on a single DVD without a lot of compression. But hey, who cares? The nail-biting is all there, and it's still fun to watch and wait for the thrilling endings you know are coming.
I don't own many movie DVDs, and I don't own any other sports DVDs. But this set is special if you're a Red Sox fan, or if you love to see the underdog triumph, or if you love to hate the New York Yankees. Buy it now, and watch it every year until the Red Sox win the Series again, in 2090.
The best endorsement around.......2007-01-24
I gave this to my sister as a gift for her 50th birthday. We are Boston born and raised though I now live in VT, and we have been "genetic" Red Sox fans since birth for better or worse. Here's what she emailed to me when it arrived today:
"Scott and I were in a sports bar last night watching one of those cable stations that rerun old baseball games, usually pretty ordinary ones, and I was saying that there weren't many whole games that I would sit and watch again. Well, now I have the only ones that I would."
red sox 2004 world series.......2007-01-11
the quality of the Cd is poor- skips and stops are common
Worth every penny!.......2007-01-04
We had looked at many 'World Series' boxed sets and really like this one as it included the ALCS series with the Yankees as well as the World Series. There are alot of extras (each DVD has the box score on the back, along with trivia and highlights on the front) along with being able to select the top or bottom of innings to watch. It's like winning all over again. A MUST for every Red Sox fan!
A Piece of History.......2006-12-20
This was the most thrilling event in recent sports history, and that is all. You will not get loads of extras, just the games. It is true that the picture and sound quality are little below par, but is that really why you are considering purchasing this collection? The DVD's are worth having for watching and rewatching the exemplary performances of Pedro Martinez and Derek Lowe, and for the heroics of Kurt Schilling. If you want to relive these historic games than by all means do not allow anything to stand between you and this DVD set.

The Cornerstone of Your HD DVD collection!.......2007-06-15
Ray Liotta and Lorraine Brocco are simply amazing and they couldn't look any better than they do on HD DVD! This title is a classic and the HD transfer, though a little dark is incredible! I can watch this film over and over and I'm sure you can too. Joe Pesci is merciless in Goodfellas! As in any mob, there is always at least one guy with a short fuse; The mob culture couldn't be portrayed any better. HD DVD only enhances the enjoyment of this film, its like the icing on the cake! Be sure to accompany this HD DVD with Casino. As one previous reviewer wrote, its a Mob HIT! Bring on Scarface!
Goodfellas. HD. What more do you want?!.......2007-05-31
After picking up The Departed in HD DVD, I got a hankerin for more Scorsese. I wasn't aware that Goodfellas had been released in HD DVD until I caught it out of the corner of my eye at my local Target. I was thrilled and the movie didn't dissapoint. It's as captivating as it was when I first saw it, and now it's been polished for the new era in home theater. Beautiful visuals and crisp sound. A must-have for HD DVD
If you loved Goodfellas when it first came out, get this, you owe it to yourself.
Captivating from Start to Finish.......2007-05-28
I can't say enough about how well this film turned out. This movie always has something going on in so many different circumstances, and draws you into such a sense of normalcy within a completely extraordinarily abnormal lifestyle.
The story's narration plays uniquely well throughout the film. And the film seems to morph throughout its "life" in a very intelligent manner.
Just about every frame of this film can induce positive in-depth discussion...too much to say in a single review - you really should just see this movie for yourself!
The HD DVD transfer quality is outstanding! Visually compelling artistic sweeps coupled with production sets and performances that make you feel "right at home" give "GoodFellas" an unmatched sense of epic realism!
There is a vertical mid-screen stripe of missing picture which runs from 1:16:37 to 1:16:42, but upon searching the internet before contacting Warner to ask if it's a disc issue, I find that it has existed since the original theatrical version and has also been present on every other format which the film has been released on so far as well. This does not break the movie by any means - some claim to have never noticed (I don't see how) - I'm just surprised that nobody has taken the time to sit down and interpolate what appears to be a simple fix for a five-second segment of the movie.
The DD+ 5.1 audio track is very rich, clear and enveloping...it sounds remarkable, every bit!
Extras include two commentaries, three cast and crew documentaries, a storyboard-to-screen comparison and a theatrical trailer.
This is a top quality, amazing two hour and twenty-five minute film. I so highly recommend "GoodFellas".
very nice.......2007-04-17
having not seen this movie i decided to purchase it after i had been told what a good movie it is. on that note, being an hd dvd, and not seeing the dvd version, i can tell you that as old as this movie is, being on hd dvd, looks like a movie that just came out, you cant even tell its an older movie. all in all this is a very good movie, and i love my hd dvd player more and more with every hd dvd purchased. HD DVD is definetly better than blu-ray...if you remember antthing from this review, remember that...
Classic.......2007-03-18
The movie remains a classic....a little disappointed withthe HD DVD...not many extras or improvement in picture quality.

Amazon.com essential video
Spike Lee's semiautobiographical, 1994 film about the good and bad times for a Brooklyn family in the '70s has passion and nostalgic good feeling, but it is also a mess of random reflections and arbitrary storytelling. The centerpiece of the movie is a little girl (Zelda Harris) who views the ups and downs of her parents' experiences (mom and dad are played by Delroy Lindo and Alfre Woodard), and who navigates the life of her neighborhood. Lee tosses in a lot of '70s detail (watching The Partridge Family) and other diversions (Harris's journey through suburbia), but he has no master sensibility controlling the flow of it all. The film is more wearying than anything, although bright spots include Lindo's fine performance as a talented man suffering from irrelevance. --Tom Keogh
Customer Reviews:
Best movie ever made!.......2007-06-14
I have loved this movie for about ten years. Its truly a testament to the black family. (I am black!) The struggles, the joy, the grief, the sorrow, the happiness, the love, the family that prays together stays together, the working it out instead of divorce, (we need more of that these days!) just everything a movie should have. This is definitely a movie I will make sure I have in my collection for the rest of my life...and make sure my kids have it in their collection as well.
SPIKE LEE'S CROOKLYN.......2007-04-14
This Spike Lee joint tells the funny, but also sad story about life growing up in Brooklyn in th Early '70's through the eyes of a no-nonsense mother, a struggling-musician father and their 5 children. The music of that time was great and you get to hear some of it throughout the movie like The Stylistics, The Staple Singers & Aretha Franklin just to name a few. Also, clips from nostaglic commercials and TV shows like The Partridge Family and Soul Train (the first season) are also featured in this story that makes this movies worth watching.
And I think the formula used for CROOKLYN may have been some sort of inspiration for the 2002-2005 NBC show AMERICAN DREAMS since they were both produced by Universal Pictures.
*Re-living Back In The Days*.......2007-04-12
The movie was awesome. It had a great story line. Also it takes you back to the late 70's and the early 80's. Spike Lee definitly did a good job with the clothing, the scenary, and the music. It is a great family movie.
Another great film by Spike Lee.......2007-02-27
The first time I saw this film, I was at my aunt's house. Each character had their own uniqueness, especially Troy. I loved her. The film is one of those timeless classics. Growing up in Brooklyn, this has to be one of my favorite films. I was born in 1982, but the film still resonates with me, because it shows me how life was back in the 1970s. Spike Lee, when is Hollywood going to give you an Oscar?
[3.5]--Warm and bittersweet film.......2007-02-16
Crooklyn, which Lee co-wrote with his siblings Joie Lee and Cinque Lee, marks a departure for Spike in its subject matter, offering a warm, tragicomic look at growing up in Brooklyn in the early 1970s, when the main drugs parents had to worry about their kids falling prey to wasn't crack or heroin but television and sugar. Alfre Woodard and Delroy Lindo head the Carmichael clan, a family of seven loosely based on the real-life Lees.
Woodard plays Carolyn, who teaches school and tries to keep the house in order, including her husband Woody (Lindo), a musician trying to stay true to his art even if that means placing his family in a financial strait-jacket. Crooklyn takes the point of view of the family's only daughter, 9-year-old Troy (Zelda Harris). While the film certainly looks through her eyes, it doesn't seem to be a strong enough viewpoint to carry the film's whimsical meandering. While Woodard, Lindo and Harris all give solid performances, the four brothers tend to disappear into the woodwork, never really developing into characters in their own rights. Subplots about a neighbor (David Patrick Kelly) and two glue-sniffing street kids (one played by Spike Lee) appear but never really go anywhere, though the glue sniffers do provide some funny camera angles. There aren't many overt flaws in Crooklyn. All but the most comic of urban violence has been removed, and we're left with a somewhat-idealized view of an early-70s Brooklyn.
Lee is as talented as any director is capturing an era, and some of the early scenes perfectly recall the mood of the time. The pop soundtrack may be a little too obvious, but it gets the job done. As usual, Lee has assembled an excellent cast. Alfre Woodard and Delroy Lindo do tremendous jobs. David Patrick Kelly provides a little comic relief as the white next-door neighbor who annoys just about everyone. Then there's Zelda Harris, whose unaffected performance is the glue that holds the picture together.
Crooklyn turns out pleasant enough, but by the end, it feels as if something has been left out and it just stops. The world of a child -- especially one pushed all-too-soon into adulthood -- is never easy, and this film captures the facets of Troy's odyssey. Beneath the surface of this deceptively simple motion picture lurks a keen insight.

Product Description
C.I.A. agent, Billy Brown brings his wife home to meet his absurdly dysfunctional family. Only Billy's not really in the C.I.A., and his "wife," Layla is actually a young tap dancer he just kidnapped to impress his ridiculous and unloving parents. In reality, Billy's whole life is an empty lie. He's fresh out of prison and now on a deadly mission to hunt down and kill the Buffalo Bills kicker whose botched field goal he believes ruined his life. However, Billy's new hostage may ruin everything. Their crazy attachment blossoms into a desperate and oddly beautiful romance that may or may not be a sweet enough substitute for revenge. Vincent Gallo composed and performed the original music and also wrote, directed and stars in the film that The New York Times calls a "deadpan original."

A tortered soul.......2007-06-30
This movie was an odd and interesting one. It is a story of a man that is incarcerated for a crime of not paying his bookie and then planning his revenge on the football player that lost the superbowl in prison. He is released from prison and it is the next 24 hours after his release is what the movie consists of. He kidnaps a girl, sees his dysfunctional mother and father, talks to his "slow" friend, goes bowling and then gets a motel room with the girl across from the strip club that the football player owns. The reason that I am giving this movie 5 stars is for the acting and the story of a "deteriating mind" of the main character and return back to reality and what he really has. I do highly recommend this movie to anyone that likes the "down hill and up hill climbs" of humanity.
Zero Star Rating If Possible.......2007-03-14
Dear Vincent Gallo,
I would really, really like my 110 minutes back.
Or,to put it into language that even YOU can understand: I would really, really like my 110 minutes back. I would really, really like my 110 minutes back. I would really, really like my 110 minutes back. I would really, really like my 110 minutes back. I would really, really like my 110 minutes back. I would really, really like my 110 minutes back. I would really, really like my 110 minutes back. I would really, really like my 110 minutes back. I would really, really like my 110 minutes back.
Thanks in advance.
PS - This is the absolute worst movie that I have ever had the misfortune to sit through. Plotless, artless, meandering, purely ego driven, art school drop out drivel. Avoid this train wreck like the plague.
Dark, but good........2007-03-13
This was a very strange movie which featured Vincent Gallo as Billy Brown. He is released from jail as the movie opens and then we go on a pretty wild ride as he kidnaps a girl who he needs to pose as his wife when he goes to visit his mother before his later plans to find the Buffalo Bills kicker and shoot him. Billy has no direction and he plans to take no responsibility for what happens after this night, until the woman he kidnapped says that she has fallen in love with him. I know what you are thinking, but no, this was not a Disney movie.
In my research on the film, many people seem to focus their reviews on how well Gallo captured the essence of life in Buffalo. I have never been to Buffalo, so I will have to find some other angle.
My story is a strange one. I came by this movie through a conversation that went something like this:
"...What about Mickey Rourke, do you like him?"
"Well, I can't say that I have seen him in much that I remember. I thought he was good in Sin City."
"Wow. Come on, he's great. Ummm...have you ever seen Buffalo '66?"
"No."
"Do it."
And so I did. And as The Bookie, Mickey Rourke has about 60 seconds of on-screen time. And while I agree that he was awesome for that one minute, I will have to find yet another angle.
I guess my focus will be on Vincent Gallo, which is mildly appropriate since he wrote, directed, starred in and composed (at least some of) the music for this movie. I thought he was brilliant in this role as he was held captive inside such a tormented mind. There were some incredibly deeply rooted problems from Billy's past to which were became privy one-by-one. At each confrontation with his parents a short flash-back clip is inserted to show us what happened and essentially how neglected Billy went as a child (I really enjoyed how this was done). He yells at everyone because that is the only way he saw his parents interact, with each other or with him. At the beginning of the movie Billy is a hollow soul full of anger and slowly over the course of the movie the perfect depth is added to his character. And while it doesn't make for the most heart-warming love story, it was somewhat endearing to see that Billy kidnapped the only person who may be crazier than he is.
We are given no indication about who Layla is; she was forcefully removed from her tap dancing class against her will by a man with whom she falls in love over a very short period of time. From what we know all they have is each other, but maybe that is enough for them to be happy.
Buffalo '66 is a movie I recommend, but not to everyone. If you are a student of film, either professionally or recreationally, I believe there was some impressive writing, organization and direction. This is also the type of movie I would recommend to my brother, but add the caveat that perhaps he should watch it one night when his wife has something else to do. There is very little harsh language, but there is a very negative cloud that hangs over this movie making it not attractive the optimists in the audience.
Gallo Rocks.......2006-10-20
Brilliant, oddball indie film. Gallo adds touches of stylistic beauty to this dark story of a young man released from prison who goes home to visit his parents. During this visit Ben Gazzara lip-synchs to a "Nelson Riddle arrangement" in his bedroom. Later Christina Ricci does a weirdly beautiful tap dance under a soft spotlight at the bowling alley. BUFFALO 66 is a bit like another indie small masterpiece, TREES LOUNGE (which Steve Buscemi worte and directed) in that both films capture the dreary, quitodian rhythm of everyday smalltown living, but perfectly so (and both movies are impecabbly acted with stellar casts). The brilliance of BUFFALO 66 makes BROWN BUNNY, Gallo's latest film, even more disappointing. I, for one, am waiting for Gallo to return to form with his next film, if it is indeed coming...
I liked it.......2006-09-21
This is a good movie to watch when it's 3 AM and you can't sleep. It's thoroughly entertaining, I wish there were more movies like it.

Dinner Rush is gourmet cinema, served with a generous helping of culinary panache. After countless commercials, music videos (including Michael Jackson's "Beat It"), and a few obscure features, director and restaurateur Bob Giraldi casts his own New York eatery as a TriBeCa hot spot where the owner (Danny Aiello) presides over a busy night of fine dining and mob entanglements. He's been a bookmaker for 25 years but he's going legit; his son (Edoardo Ballerini) is a nuovo cuisine genius, eager to inherit the business; the sous-chef (Kirk Acevedo) is deeply in debt to mafia thugs; an art-dealer snob (Mark Margolis) is antagonizing his waitress (Summer Phoenix); a charming stranger (John Corbett) harbors a climactic surprise; and a powerful food critic (Sandra Bernhard) is ready to pounce on any wrong move. In perfect control of this bustling environment, Giraldi directs like a great chef cooks: with Altmanesque delicacy, confident that every ingredient is vital to the success of his creation. It's utterly delicious. --Jeff Shannon

Well Done!.......2007-04-24
Tastefully shot in New York City, Dinner Rush is a seductive little number that delivers. Having worked in restaurants for several years, this movie serves up an authenticity that could only be captured by an insiders view. For those of you who love working in restaurants this movie is a winner.
Delicious entree, full of surprises.......2007-04-13
This movie from 2002 was recommended to me by close friends. And were
they on target. The film is about a night in an upscale Italian eatery
in Tribeca Village. It is filmed from the kitchen and the main floor.
The first half introduces the viewer to the various people attending the
restaurant that night and the chef and his staff working in the kitchen.
These scenes are so realistic, it almost seems like a documentary. But
as the plot develops, tension builds, with one of the most unexpected
and satisfying endings of any film in recent memory. DO NOT MISS THIS!
Don't bother to relax !.......2007-04-02
If you enjoy enjoy gangland and the world of food you will be well rewarded. A most, most enjoyable film!
good surprise.......2006-11-06
i was expecting some kind of TV movie and i had the pleasure to discover a very clever flick with a remarquable cast (DannyAiello being always very good) . It's not the Godfather but a nice moment with loads of humanity
Dessert & "just desserts".......2006-10-22
Danny Aiello, in superb form, heads a terrific and perfectly cast ensemble in this fast-paced drama of crime and punishment. You'll jump from food to furor as the exceptional editing takes you on a one night jaunt into the lives and longings of the vain and vulgar. The plot unfolds as a "Prix Fixe" menu with all the trimmings being served without disturbing the main course.
Director Bob Giraldi is flawless in his ability to present this potpourri with total viewer comprehension. Everything fits into place and the finale can rival Hitchcock any day of the week. Mark Margolis and Sandra Bernhard provide the comic relief with John Corbett so subtle as the lonely guy looking for friends.
A real feast.
