Married couple Judge Reinhold and Julia Sweeney host the unkempt Saint Bernard in this fourth go-round of the canine comedy franchise. The pair and their two children are dog-sitting in their pleasant suburban home--made predictably less pleasant by their toilet-water-slurping, steak-stealing guest. Meanwhile, across town, a rich couple and their lonely daughter have their own problems when their identical-looking Saint Bernard, Michelangelo, is kidnapped by their double-crossing butler.
Of course, the switch is inevitable in this Prince and the Pauper with dogs, landing the meat-crazed Beethoven in the vegetarian dog's silk-sheeted bed and vice versa. Many drool jokes later, the dogs return to their rightful homes, the rich couple learns to cavort, and Reinhold and Sweeney learn to love Beethoven's uncouthness. You expected a different ending? This 90-minute sequel provides inoffensive and mildly amusing entertainment for ages 4 to about 12. --Kimberly Heinrichs
Description
The Newton family is trying valiantly to manage life with the larger-than-life Beethoven, while Richard (Judge Reinhold) has become a work-at-home Dad and Beth (Julia Sweeney) heads back to the office. Richard's work and Beth's new work wardrobe are toast in the presence of the giant paws and non-stop drool of the well-meaning but destructively demonstrative Beethoven, and the kids (Joe Pichler and Michaela Gallo) desperately try to save the day with obedience training. The results are disastrous at first, but seem to miraculously take hold when a mix-up at the park switches Beethoven with his dead-ringer Michelangelo, an overly well-bred show dog from the upwardly-repressed Sedgewick family manor. Chandelier-rattling chaos at the Sedgewick's and a strangely unwelcome quiet at the Newton's create huge problems that only the big-hearted St. Bernhard can lick.

Customer Reviews:
A Very Good Movie!.......2006-08-06
This movie tells a story about how a mibehaved St. Bernard named Beethoven. His masters didn't believe he was very obedient so two of the kids sent him to obedience school. In the park, he runs off to a hotdog stand. Another St. Bernard(from a very rich family) named Micheal Angelo ran from a kidnapper. Thus, the two kids got Micheal Angelo and the rich family got Beethoven.
If you're wondering what else happens, get the movie! It's a good movie. It's great for dog lovers who are looking for a funny comedy.
What were they thinking!.......2004-12-07
I bought this for my three year old son. He loved it and would beg to watch it. Shame on me for not reviewing it first! It's rated G so I figured it would be fine. WRONG!! As I am driving my son to school one day (at our church), he is talking to himself in the back seat. I thought I heard him say "What the hell?" I blew it off thinking, certainly not, he couldn't know that phrase. A couple of days later, I walk into my bedroom where he is watching Beethoven and I was shocked to hear one of the characters saying the exact phrase "what the hell". And, my son repeats it again as I am standing there in shock. Needless to say, Beethoven has never been watched again.
ugh.......2004-12-02
I liked the original Newton familt better like in 1 and 2. then at 3 there is a whole different family and they make the excuse that the old newton family needed them to watch beetoven and they would pick him up at the reunion. but they dont show up so they get to "keep" beetoven until the next runion. i wish they just kept the original family. what about all of the puppies??
barking up the wrong tree..........2004-06-30
These movies are definately pulling an AIR BUD here!! There comes a point in every movie series where you just CAN'T MAKE ANY MORE!!! They should have stopped at two. I mean they really have overly streched this saint bernard's fame, they made FIVE movies, and they had an animated show for a while. Face it, Beethoven lost his charm YEARS ago!!!
Surprisingly Good!.......2004-01-29
I saw this movie a few years ago, and cannot wait to see Beethoven's 5th. I have not yet seen Beethoven's 1st, 2nd, or
3rd, but am looking foward to. The Beethoven sequences are a new thing to me, but I think you could add them to the wonderful
list of movies and DVD's like Lassie, Homeward Bound one, two, and three. You should definitly at LEAST consider watching it.

Product Description
BEETHOVEN'S 3RD: Beethoven the Saint Bernard is back in this comedy for the whole family, in which the Newton Family (with their rather large pet in tow) hops into their camper for a cross-country vacation. Along the way, they encounter a gang of bad guys. Can Beethoven help bring them to justice? Beethoven's 3rd stars Judge Reinhold, Julia Sweeney, Jamie Marsh, and Michaela Gallo. Charles Grodin, star of the first two films, opted not to appear in this one.
BEETHOVEN'S 4TH: The rude, crude, slobbering St. Bernard known as Beethoven is on thin ice with the parents who run the Newton household. If he destroys dad's (Judge Reinhold) artwork and drools on mom's (Julia Sweeney) briefcase one more time, he's history. The loving children of the family (Joe Pichler and Michaela Gallo) secretly enroll the dog into an obedience school in hopes of Beethoven learning a few manners. Meanwhile, Michelangelo, the pampered St. Bernard of the ultra-wealthy Sedgwick family a dog so well mannered it not only wipes its feet on a door mat but can also fold a dinner napkin accidentally winds up at the Newton's while Beethoven ends up at the Sedgwick estate, confusing the humans who live in both households.
BEETHOVEN'S 5TH: Taking over the reins of the venerable Beethoven franchise, John Laroquette headlines this family-oriented comedy about the further adventures of the world's most meddlesome Saint Bernard. In this installment, it seems as though Beethoven has dug up the first part of a buried fortune, and his discovery has made him the center of attention in the normally sleepy burgh of Quicksilver. Lilo and Stitch's Daveigh Chase co-stars as Beethoven's best friend Sara, who brings him to the small town to visit her uncle Fred (Dave Thomas) when all the commotion starts.
