Directed by and starring Jackie Chan, and set in 1930s Hong Kong, Miracles is a gangster film that is equal parts comedy and action film, with a touch of melodrama thrown in for good measure. Chan stars as a young man who rescues a dying crime boss in 1930s Hong Kong. When the boss passes away, he is tapped to become the new leader. He attributes his good luck to an old rose seller and the roses he buys off of her. To pay her back for all of his good fortune, he helps her pretend to be a wealthy socialite, just as she had described herself in letters to her daughter in order to help impress her daughter's wealthy fiancé and not queer their upcoming marriage. The plot is lifted from Frank Capra's Lady for a Day (1933), which Capra remade in 1961 as Pocketful of Miracles. Of course, like all Jackie Chan films, this movie contains more--and more innovative--fight scenes than Capra could ever dream of. Two set pieces in particular are stunning: A big fight in a restaurant and the final battle in the warehouse of a rope factory. Along the way, Chan throws in a musical number inspired by Busby Berkeley and a whole lotta heart, making this a well-rounded and entertaining film, which Chan himself has allegedly referred to as his favorite. --Andy Spletzer

The fourth entry in the Harry Potter saga could be retitled Fast Times at Hogwarts, where finding a date to the winter ball is nearly as terrifying as worrying about Lord Voldemort's return. Thus, the young wizards' entry into puberty (and discovery of the opposite sex) opens up a rich mining field to balance out the dark content in the fourth movie (and the stories are only going to get darker). Mike Newell (Four Weddings and a Funeral) handily takes the directing reins and eases his young cast through awkward growth spurts into true young actors. Harry (Daniel Radcliffe, more sure of himself) has his first girl crush on fellow student Cho Chang (Katie Leung), and has his first big fight with best bud Ron (Rupert Grint). Meanwhile, Ron's underlying romantic tension with Hermione (Emma Watson) comes to a head over the winter ball, and when she makes one of those girl-into-woman Cinderella entrances, the boys' reactions indicate they've all crossed a threshold.
But don't worry, there's plenty of wizardry and action in Goblet of Fire. When the deadly Triwizard Tournament is hosted by Hogwarts, Harry finds his name mysteriously submitted (and chosen) to compete against wizards from two neighboring academies, as well as another Hogwarts student. The competition scenes are magnificently shot, with much-improved CGI effects (particularly the underwater challenge). And the climactic confrontation with Lord Voldemort (Ralph Fiennes, in a brilliant bit of casting) is the most thrilling yet. Goblet, the first installment to get a PG-13 rating, contains some violence as well as disturbing images for kids and some barely shrouded references at sexual awakening (Harry's bath scene in particular). The 2 1/2-hour film, lean considering it came from a 734-page book, trims out subplots about house-elves (they're not missed) and gives little screen time to the standard crew of the other Potter films, but adds in more of Britain's finest actors to the cast, such as Brendan Gleeson as Mad-Eye Moody and Miranda Richardson as Rita Skeeter. Michael Gambon, in his second round as Professor Dumbledore, still hasn't brought audiences around to his interpretation of the role he took over after Richard Harris died, but it's a small smudge in an otherwise spotless adaptation. --Ellen A. Kim
On the DVD
The highlight of the two-disc set is a half-hour conversation with actors Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint. They discuss their reactions to the film and other topics with British writer Richard Curtis . Then they answer questions from contest-winning fans, such as what are their favorite kids' books (Watson bypasses the obvious answer in favor of Roald Dahl and Philip Pullman) and what scenes are they looking forward to in upcoming films. More routine extras include the "Reflections on the Fourth Film" featurette (14 min.), though it has comments from some of the other young cast members, and "Preparing for the Yule Ball" (9 min.). The 10 minutes of additional scenes are mostly skulking and skullduggery, plus a long musical number from the ball. The remaining material is grouped along the lines of the Triwizard Tournament, with behind-the-scenes looks at each of the competitions (about 22 min. total), two longer featurettes on He Who Must Not Be Named (11 min.) and the workday of the other contestants (Robert Pattinson, Stanislav Ianevski, and Clémence Poésy, 13 min.), and four games, playable with the directional arrows on the remote control, that can be frustrating to figure out. --David Horiuchi

Amazing book, mediocre movie.......2007-07-04
There is no comparison to the book. The acting was horrible (kids, Dumbledore) but I assume they were just badly directed - why is Dumbledore raving and out of control? Furthermore, many interesting scenes were cut or shortened - at least give us more world cup quidditch! I love the first 3 movies but this one just didn't measure up. I hope OotP is better.
! horrible movie - goblet of fire - 1st 2 great 3rd lousy as well.......2007-06-30
i have never read any of the harry potter books. the 1st 2 harry potter movies were excellent. you did not have to read the books to follow along and enjoy the movies. most importantly, the movies made sense. i have seen all 4 movies at the movie theater. this movie was horrible. (3rd movie was lousy as well) this movie made no sense. there was no cohesiveness. the movie was all over the place. jumping from scene to scene without correctly explaining the scene that the movie was in. i was very bored. i did not feel a bond with really any of the characters including harry. the guy who plays dumbledorf needs to be fired immediately he has no personality at all. i have tried to watch this harry goblet of fire movie on cable several times thinking maybe i misjudged or overeacted. i was totally 100% accurate. this movie is horribly bad. as other reviewers have said the movie needed to be longer (example stated lord of the rings) i hope harry potter v is much better.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.......2007-06-16
First off, I thought this movie was quite entertaining and exciting in a thrill-ride sort of way, but it was the weakest film in the Harry Potter series. Many people will disagree with me, but this film lacked in plot and character development. The Triwizard champions had a total of two or less lines in the movie, and they weren't shown enough to grow accustomed to them. Mike Newell might be a great director, but he didn't capture the mood and essence of the Harry Potter world. Every time I was getting ready to settle with a situation or conflict, the movie took me to an entirely different ball park. The film never settled... it was in a constant rush.
Before the movie premiered in theaters, I remember hearing Newell say in an interview that he took out a few unnecessary subplots. He definitely took out many unnecessary subplots, and he replaced them with some other unnecessary scenes. There was a part in the movie where "Karkaroff" (The Durmstrang Headmaster)is shown secretly entering the lonely Great Hall. It's a very suspicious scene that leaves the audience wondering: What happens?... Nothing... nothing happens. That scene was just placed there for the sake of adding suspense to the story. The Beauxbatons champion, Fleur Delacour, was a very intriguing character in the book, and I was very disappointed when her total screen time added up to about three minutes. I had no complaints about her look, because I think she was as beautiful as they described her in the book, yet the director didn't take advantage of her screen time. In fact, the director didn't take advantage of any actor's screen time. Rita Skeeter, the haughty reporter for the Daily Prophet (played by the talented Miranda Richardson), was a very random character in the film, but in the book, she was a very well-developed character.
I'm sorry to say, but I think this movie would've been better off in the hands of another director. I think Alfonso Cuaron and Chris Columbus captured the true spirit of J.K. Rowling's magical wizarding world. Chris Columbus portrayed the world as colorful, yet filled with hidden dangers; Cuaron made the third film dark and more adult, still maintaining a magical tone; Mike Newell... he created a tone that was all over the place.
I am no director, but I can say that Mike Newell definitely needs to work on character development in his films. I heard he made the film "Mona Lisa Smile", and when I saw that movie, I had the same complaints I had for Harry Potter 4: "It just could've been better". Mona Lisa Smile lacked in proper character development as well. I know we live in a society that demands instant action and conflict in its flicks, but there are ways of doing that without rushing plot or character development. I'm just glad he's not doing the next Harry Potter film.
Although I have some complaints about this film, I still have to say that I enjoy watching it because it is entertaining and it is a thrill ride; so I do recommend it for that purpose. Thank You for reading. =)

! horrible movie - goblet of fire - 1st 2 great 3rd lousy as well.......2007-06-30
i have never read any of the harry potter books. the 1st 2 harry potter movies were excellent. you did not have to read the books to follow along and enjoy the movies. most importantly, the movies made sense. i have seen all 4 movies at the movie theater. this movie was horrible.
The Best HP Movie Yet!.......2007-06-26
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire was an amazing movie. The effects were astonishing, the action was awesome, and the acting was outstanding!
In his fourth year at Hogwarts, Harry Potter discovers that Lord Voldemort has returned and is trying to kill him. This movie is awesome!

Customer Reviews:
Get the facts right, this DVD has the Uncut version........2006-04-11
Again, unfortunately someone has been jumping the gun and accusing every DVD released in America to be cut. Usually a warning is apropriate, as foreign films are often cut, however, you should know whether or not that's true before you write a bad review. Not only does this film have both the original dialogue/ uncut version & the english dubbed(on one double-sided disc), but it lists it right in the features above. Please do your research or at least read the description before you continue to make these harsh allegations.
That being said, the audio and video quality on this DVD is very poor. The other R1 version by Tai Seng is the 22 minutes shorter cut, so avoid that one. So, region free player? Hong Kong Legends version, if not, either this one, or some cheaper HK import that will probably also have subpar quality.
Original is BETTER.......2006-02-05
If you want UNCUT ORIGINAL version, ALWAYS look for ORIGINAL LICENSED Production. NOT US Release. Its a foreign film, it should not be US version to begin with~! HELLO!!!?? Why settle for LESS with US Version where they edit and cut so many excellent scenes especially with Jackie's Fighting Scenes. And US Release ruins the speed and sound as well. I have been collecting Jackie Chan's movies both HK and US Release Version for quite some time now. I found HK Version to be MUCH MORE in enjoyable, and HIGHER in Quality. American Market always like to "Americanize" and "Control". Regional Code Regulation thing is one of the example to CONTROL the Market. Why not let everyone enjoy the same HK Original Release move the same way ENTIRE WORLD enjoys it ?? No one makes Hollywood American movies to "French version" or "Chinese Version" ~! This what Americans are doing~! Well, enjoy the cheap "American version" then~! LOL
miracles.......2005-10-17
its a pretty good movie. very touching but the quality isnt perfect and the acting and stuff isnt that awesome either. other than that, the action's great. jackie chan does a good job.
Chan's best work as a director!.......2005-03-26
The movie, which I won't bother summarizing since it's been done in other reviews, is a feel-good-story sprinkled with some awesome action. If you're just out for an action fix, you may want to pick up another Chan movie instead. Although the fight scenes have quality work in choreography, execution, and creativity (beautiful fight in a rope-factory), it focuses on plot and dialogue for good chunks of time. If you don't mind a balanced movie between plot and action, you might want to jump on this one.
Jackie Chan did a nice job in both directing and starring the movie. He played the naive poorboy with a heart of gold perfectly. The comedy in the movie didn't evoke the laughter Chan movie's usually get out of me, but it's still abit humorous nevertheless. It's a shame Anita Mui didn't get much development throughout the movie. Her love-relationship with Jackie in the movie seems strained, out of place, and unnecessary. I guess since there were so many things going on in the plot at once, their relationship was underdeveloped and took a back seat.
Chan's directing throughout the movie is, in my opinion, his best effort as a director yet. He did a great job organizing the hectic mess of plotlines that consistently intervened and conflicted with each other, while ultimately leading it up to a climatic finish with the different plots being intertwined and combined.
Note: I only viewed the movie through Cantonese dubbing w/English subtitles. English dubbing WAS included in this version, but I just prefer to view movies in their original, intended format.
Rereleased Miracle!.......2005-03-02
Just so everyone knows, there are two versions of this DVD, both released by Columbia Tristar. The first DVD was released in 2000 and did NOT include english dubbing. I saw the first release and not only did it not include english dubbing, but it also had terrible picture quality. I'm guessing that Columbia Tristar realized that it was a botched job and rereleased it again but this time it included an english dubbed version.
In any case, this movie was really great(an excellent blend of the gangster era and kung fu) and I'm glad that Columbia Tristar rereleased this version because the other release was a huge disappointment for me.

Orphen' s # 1!.......2005-02-08
I have only two words for this movie. The best!! It has plenty of action as well as humor. I loved it the moment I saw it! I have only two things to say to you all. Buy it!!!!!!
Orphen? What the heck is that?.......2003-11-03
This DVD was a total impulse buy, and looking back, I'm very glad I was so eager to spend my money on that day.
First off, I am not a fan of fantasy. Having said that, I'm not quite sure what drew me to this title, but I thoroughly enjoyed it.
One of my favorite things about this anime is Orphen himself - he does not look like your typical main character. With his leather jacket, black pants, and red headband, he looks like a bad guy, but looks are decieving. Orphen is a very interesting character with a mysterious past, and by the end of the first episode, the viewer knows that there's a lot more to this story than they've been shown so far.
These first three episodes are like a trilogy; they all run into each other to make one long story designed to introduce us to the anime, and it does this well. We are introduced to Orphen's student Majik and a girl named Cleo who has a crush on Orphen, but would never admit it. We also meet the troll Volcan and his sister, Dortan. Volcan's anti-Orphen attitude is quite amusing, though he can become quite annoying at times.
This show has well-placed comedy and a very good story; one that left me excited and interested in what the next volume held in store. Needless to say, I threw the second disc in my DVD player as soon as the third episode finished.
What amazes me most is that this show could have such a strong hold on me when I'm not particularly into fantasy. I definitely recommend this show - it doesn't get enough recognition.
Bad game....Great anime...........2002-10-14
Now for those of you who played the dismall PS2 game titled "Orphen," I want you to forget that period in your life.... Now that you have done that...sit down and get your hands on this anime. It combines a well organized plot with the commical antics of those involved in the story.
The plot in itself is amazing, purely because it takes until the last episode to have every piece in place. Most movies leave you with a few pieces missing or too quickly bring them all into focus. This story spawns over many years with flash backs that lead the viewer a bit closer into the world that is being displayed. This anime's plot is worth five stars in itself actually and is far more evolved then most animes on the market these days.
Orphen also uses top notch animation. The characters are well draw and look more realistic then most on the market today. The spell casting and action sequences are gripping. The humor animation really adds to the jokes as well.
The music track has a few decent scores, but overall is quite average. The voice overs are really really really good. I can't say it enough, they are great. I really can't say it enough, I love the voice actors for this series. If they do a sequal series, they had better have the same voice actors.
The lighter comedy aspects of this story are wonderful as well. They are well placed and don't detract from serious scenes. Some of it is so funny because of the randomness. If you love comedy I suggest this series strongly.
So overall this series is what real animation is about. Funny, serious, story to die for, great animation and great voice overs. A truely excellent series that I hope has a sequal.
vol 1--orphen.......2002-08-12
i rented this vido whithout even reading what it was about.ive seen about 15 different series this was one of my favorite's. it starts out with orphen teaching magic/the boy hes training) a few trickes. orphen was one of the berow of magic --witch only top wizards go. but for some reson he droped out and they want him back u see. well the whol vol 1is about this dragon locking for this sword that can change her back into a human. but the thing is that nothing can change her back. but see keeps on going for it well she kidnaps 2 girls for there home. and orphen has to save them. and make sure the dragondoes not get the sword. what well happen wel im not going to tell u the whole story youll have to see the movie.
Very. Good........2002-07-23
I remember seeing the cover to the first volume of the Orphen DVD, Spell of the Dragon. I also remember saying, "Hey, looks cool" and five minutes later I was walking out of the store with a new DVD in hand, and thirty dollars shorter than before. Yet, when I popped it into my DVD player, I realized that this was a real keeper.
Orphen starts out just about the same way as any other anime or TV series does. The characters are introduced: Orphen, the main character, and his I-don't-care attitude, Majik the innocent apprentice, and Cleao the annoyingly stubborn girl that gets sucked into the plot by a twist of fate. Seeming too cliche for you? Well then, perhaps I forgot to mention the unwelcome teachers from Orphen's past chasing after him. Or maybe the fact that Orphen is trying to save a terrifying dragon named the Bloody August from those teachers for his own personal reasons.
Yes, it's the lovely thing called foreshadowing that makes us want to throw down another thirty bucks for the next DVD, and it works so wonderfully. Granted, there are only 3 episodes on this certain volume, but there is so much promise in these three episodes that you can't help but love it. Characters quickly begin to develop and plot quickly begins to thicken. Yet beneath all the dark thoughts and mysterious memories, there's comedy that will put a smile on your face. The sarcastic attitude of Orphen is what made me laugh, and get this, it was the ENGLISH track that did it.
Yes, you heard me right, the ENGLISH track. The voice acting is professional and doesn't sound forced like most anime. I actually think that the American dialogue was much sharper than the original, but maybe that's just because I'm not Japanese. But in any case, there's something to be said about the translation job in the Orphen series. It's so surprisingly good...it's almost scary.
Orphen is for just about anyone who enjoys some good magic action every now and then, and perhaps for even the people that don't. Give it a try and decide for yourself.

Pimp Muten Roshi.......2002-01-08
I read many reviews of the Garlic Jr. episodes - both good and bad. In my oppinion i think these episodes are closer to the stuff you would get in Dragon Ball rather than being Dragon Ball Z. The only consequence of getting it is, you have to watch it in Japanese and read subtitles. That is the only way to watch a DBZ unless you actually know japanese or are japanese. The episodes are a breath of fresh air after watching the Frieza saga drag out (not saying that I didn't like seeing Frieza transform a gazillion times or liked waiting 9 episodes for 5 minutes to pass and Namek to explode). Garlic Jr. and the Spice boys are not the sinister villians usually served up in DBZ but they will suffice because the real treat to this is.....Master Roshi getting back to his dirty ways. The parts where Roshi tries to pick up on Krillin's girl are fantastic schtick that i think DBZ lacks a lot of times. Nothing beats Muten Roshi trying to cop a feel here and pafu pafu over the female anatomy. Plus this DVD sets up for Gohan vs. Cucumber....i mean Piccolo fight. Black Water mist rules then! Very good stuff here ......well at least to me.
Garlic Bad As Ever.......2001-06-08
These episodes are great because they show how time has passed since the battle with Frieza. Gohan is older and all of Earth's fighters are much stronger. These episodes include Gohan, Piccolo, Kame, and Krillen with the return of the evil Garlic Jr. Garlic Jr. is trying to take over the world and kill Earth's fighters with making them fight against their friends. I would say this was a perfect time to bring back Garlic Jr.
The Imortal Tyrant is Back.......2001-01-22
Garlic returns from the Dead Zone to take revenge on the world. After taking Kame and Mr. Popo into his custody, Garlic Jr. releases the Black Water Mist on the earth. BWM will make anyone who breathes it become evil. Fortunetely, Gohan, Kirlin, Maron and Ickarus avoid it. However, the rest of the Z fighters attack them. Gohan, Kirlin nd Maron escapes while Picollo fights the rest and gets bitten. After dropping Maron off at Yagerboi's place, Gohan and Kirlin proceed to Kami's lookout with Picolo and Garlic's henchmen awaiting them. This is a real great volume, however you might wanna keep the kids away from the uncut version. There are plenty of scenes from the DBZ movie Dead Zone to help explain if you've never seen the movie. Anyway, a great volume with great action.
A horible DBZ movie.......2000-12-26
I own this movie and every DBZ movie that is out in America and ive seen all of the Cell games in English edited. I would have to say this is the worst movie i have seen and the same with the rest of the Garlic Jr. saga. I only bought it becuase i plan on buying all of the tapes. But if your not like that and you just want some good tapes get the sayian saga or androids to cell. I would have to say the best part in this movie is when Vegita is on other planets looking for Goku but that is very short. Don't get me wrong I love DBZ i just do not like this saga at all.
Not the best but alright.......2000-07-23
I was excited to see this because I was getting bored with the Frieza Saga. It wasn't as good as I hoped it would be. There were some funny parts in it. As much as I hate Krillin I was glad to see he got a girlfriend, even though she was a little strange. Garlic Jr wasn't impressing at all. Even though I own this I wouldn't recommend this for everyone. If you aren't pleased with this tape don't ditch the whole saga. The other two tapes are better.

A Ron Van Clief fan's dream come true. And it's a budget release!.......2007-03-10
WAY OF THE BLACK DRAGON-Carter Wong and Ron Van Clief team up to take on villains who are involved in slave trading. You will also recognize other old school stars like Hoi Meng, Chan Lung, and Chan Lau, but nobody does anything noteworthy. Seriously, usually I have something to say about someone, but nobody did ANYTHING good in this movie! And that brings me to the movie iteslf which is dreadful. It is a very bad movie and it is obvious they didn't even have a script when filming started. And, the director doesn't really have a clue what to do. It is just pitiful. The best fight scene is between Van Clief and Carter Wong. Charles Bonet shows up for a very forgettable finale. It only took about 20 minutes to start asking myself if this movie was ever going to end. 1.5/5
Bonus features include some behind the scenes footage of the making of the film with an audio commentary on it(8 minutes long). The commentaries are the real reason you should buy this 2 disc DVD set. Ron Van Clief and George Tan give all the info you could ever ask for on this movie. As good as a commentary gets.
DEATH OF BRUCE LEE-First off, don't go into this expecting to find out about Bruce Lee's death(the commentary will probably surprise a lot of people though). The movie is less than B-grade and should not be taken seriously whatsoever. All that happens is people walk around and get into fights. So if you can get past that, then you can just enjoy the Bruce Lee imitations by Charles Bonet and all the mindless fighting. At least the movie has star power and the action is good at times. Van Clief ALWAYS looks good. I will try to name most of the guys who I spotted in this. Starting with Ron Van Clief of course, Charles Bonet, Jason Pai Paio, Wong Chi-sang, Charlie Chin, Qui Yuen(old lady landlord in 'Kung Fu Hustle'), Chan Lau, San Kwai, and Bai Sai Ngai(AKA big eye little eye). The guy with the bald head and mustache is the same villain from 'Black Dragon'(at least I think it was called Black Dragon) which was another Pai Paio/Van Clief movie. It is just as bad as this and Van Clief isn't in it much and just runs around with a gang beating people up. It was actually a gang of good guys if I remember correctly. This movie is directed by Lu Chun Ku who made a ton of great movies. This is not one of them. It is absolutely horrible. 1/5.
Special features again are outstanding and a real dream come true for any Van Clief fan. There is 22 minutes of behind the scenes on this disc with commentary. It includes one of those behind the scenes fights you always hear about. It's a fun little match. The commentary on the movie is AMAZING!! They did a good job filling up 91 minutes on 'Way of the Black Dragon', but if you are a Bruce Lee fan, you may want to at least rent this somewhere if possible. 'Death By Misadventure' was a very good documentary and has a great commentary also, but this is magnificent. Since it is a Van Clief movie, they do talk about his career. So it is really worth hearing for fans of both martial arts masters and it's loaded with plenty of other information to ensure that any fan of kung fu cinema will enjoy it.
I should give this a 4/5 star rating, because the audio quality is bad and both movies are full screened. Nothing near as bad as some of the other audio commentaries Gerorge Tan has done in terms of sound though. Definitely listenable. I can't take any points off because the 3 1/2 hours of Van Clief commentary is just so awesome.
Good bonus features.......2007-01-18
Just got a hold of this double feature.
Have to say I'm not a real big fan of the Black Dragon films in general but I gave this set a peek.
Both films are `modern day' but feature many actors from traditional kung fu films such as Carter Wong.
The action (and clothes)is very very 1970's so if that's not your bag then look elsewhere.
Death of Bruce Lee has Ron Van Clief and Charles Bonet trying to find out how Bruce Lee died and getting into al kinds of fights along the way.
What's real interesting is spotting the actual stuntmen who worked on Enter the Dragon and other Bruce Lee films appearing in this one.
Way of the Black Dragon is shot mostly in Thailand and Ron doesnt even appear for the first half hour or so.
Now the bonus features are real good and make up for the quality of the films.
Audio commentary with Ron Van Clief and George Tan for both films and it's really packed with information.
Nothing is wasted there. They talk about the making of the films and also Van Clief's life and career before and after each film.
Listen for a bit where Ron starts to talk about doing bodyguard work for James Brown and then it seems to cut off.Too bad!
There's also a lot of behind the scenes footage from both films.
That's greast material and there is commentary on that section too.
So I give 2 stars for the bonus features,1 star each film and 1 star for the audio commentary.
Finally a collection of Grandmaster Van Clief.......2006-12-13
Grandmaster Van Clief is one of the top masters in the world and it's about time he gets the respect deserved with his own collection.
Death of Bruce Lee is the second film he made in Hong Kong after the Black Dragon which launched his career.
Way of the Black Dragon came after this film.
Looking forward to the audio commentary and behind the scenes footage!
I read there's tons of bonus extras all endorsed by Grandmaster Van Clief.
Death of Bruce Lee: A really bad movie for those of you who love bad movies!!!.......2006-08-28
This review is only for "Death of Bruce Lee". and is based on a mid 80's video release. Seeing that this DVD is both a double feature and the original movie was and probably still is the basis of a lawsuit by Bruce Lee's estate, I am pretty sure that it is the same print that was available on VHS years ago. Then again, sometimes Brentwood surprises everyone and actually gets their hands on a letter-boxed film print, so who knows.
Which brings us to the movie and why Bruce Lee's widow would want to sue the producers. The movie suggests that he died of a drug overdose. The VHS copy was made from a print that attempted to get around this bit of libel by editing part of Bruce Lee's name out of the soundtrack. So for the entire movie whenever his name is spoken you here the name Bruce followed by dead silence where they removed "Lee" from the soundtrack. Although I cant imagine what good that did as the opening credits clearly say "Death of Bruce Lee".
Here is the plot, and I must warn you, there is a SPOILER.
Bruce Lee has died. A mysterious man hires Ron Van Clief [ a.k.a. The Black Dragon ] to go to Hong Kong and investigate why Bruce Lee died. [ Ron Van Clief was actually one of Bruce Lee's students in real life and plays himself in this movie ] Once in Hong Kong he meets up with an old friend who owns some sort of shop and together investigate Bruce Lee's death. Simultaneously Bruce Lee's teacher asks his students to also investigate his death. Every time Ron & Friend finds someone who is willing to talk, the same thing happens. The person is cryptic and says he will talk about what he knows later at another location. But each time just before Ron gets there a group of thugs show up and beat the snitch to death. Accompanying the thugs is a girl who carries poisonous snakes in her purse and likes to throw them on people.
After the trail grows cold again and again as the bodies of potential snitches piles up, Ron & Friend finally decide to visit actress Betty Ting Pei [ in real life she was the actress that Bruce Lee was visiting when he died. She would later claim that they were carrying on an affair and loved each other. But at the time this film came out many suspected her of killing Bruce Lee. ] But when they get to her house they find the thugs guarding the place and saying that she will see no visitors. So Ron & friend sneak in at night time, but unfortunately the other group of Kung Fu students also investigating Lee's death also decide to sneak in. Both groups end up fighting and all end up running off the property once an alarm is sounded. The thugs succeed in killing a couple of students and the butler of Ron's friend, just to scare everyone off the case, but instead Ron realizes that the students are on the same side as he is and together they decide to invade Betty Ting Pei's home and find out what she knows. But when they get there they find her dead [ in real life she is still alive and making movies ]and the thugs in her house. A martial arts battle breaks out and in one distasteful moment Ron grabs the girl with the snake filled purse, calls her a bitch, and mercilessly beats her to death. After winning the battle and killing all the thugs, Ron walks into the next room to find......SPOILER........the mysterious man who had hired the thugs. And he turns out to be the same man who had hired him to investigate Bruce Lee's death in the first place. Huh???? But If he didn't want anyone to know how Bruce Lee died then why did he..... Aw, never mind. The man and Ron have a drawn out Kung Fu fight where Ron winds up winning. Now with everyone who knew anything dead Bruce Lee's death will have to remain forever a mystery. [ In real life Bruce Lee died from an allergic reaction to pain killer. ]

Customer Reviews:
A good release from Crash Cinema of an historically based mainland Chinese martial arts movie.......2007-02-04
'Yao's Young Warriors' is a mainland Chinese costume adventure that takes place towards the end of the Sung Dynasty. It tells the story of General Yao who would not yield to the Chin forces and holds out at a mountain. They are in a position where the Chin forces can't get to them without heavy loss. They plan to kidnap Yao's mother to get him and his small army to surrender. This is the set up given at the beginning at the movie. While the grandmother is a character in the movie, you will have to forget about General Yao. He does not appear again.
The movie starts out with a dark skinned young man who comes to warn Yao's 5 sons of the attack on their father. They plan their own attack and this becomes the plot for the movie.
The story is all kinds of fun with good light hearted comedy and some great fight scenes. The first fight involves fighting one to one on horses. It reminded me a bit of King Arthur and is a very unique fight scene but the action actually gets better from there. Whoever the director of this is does a great job of intertwining kung fu into the story. The story is engaging and helps make this a very good movie. It doesn't come to a close answering all the questions you might have but for a 90 minute movie, there is a ton of action and they do sacrifice giving you a more thorough story in order to show you all these action scenes. I don't want to explain the story because it is better for it to just unfold in front of you. It tries to be an epic movie and while it fails in that, it was great to see all of the colorful costumes and the attempt for it to be a true epic did add excitement.
All of the actors are highly skilled Wushu performers and the action is very good. They save the best for last and the final fight is outstanding. The 5 brothers take on 3 cousins of the eldest prince and a son of a general who have come to support the Chin troops. The prince is the main villian but doesn't do a lot of fighting but these 4 all specialize in special skills like iron head technique, eagle claw, a pole, and a rope dart. The Yao sons all specialize in spear techniques and it makes for a suberb finale.
I would recommend this movie to anyone who liked mainland movies like 'Undaunted Wudang', 'Ahrats in Fury', and 'Secret of Tai Chi'. I didn't find it quite as good as those but the difference is that while this movie has all the great action scenes you expect, 'Yao's Young Warriors' is a very extravagant project and really feels bigger than it is.
The picture is presented in widescreen. Letterboxed! Picture quality is very good though it has some noticeable print damage. This is part of the Venom Mobs series but it has MUCH better picture quality and presentation than the other movies in the Venom Mobs Black Dragon Collection. I don't know what happened to Crash Cinema and why they would allow theselves to put out so many horrible presented kung fu movies but I have heard that they will be releasing many very rare movies in the near future. We will just have to wait and see what happens with them. Hopefully good things. I will keep my fingers crossed.
