With Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson as a pair of brazen wedding crashers, this buddy/romantic comedy milks a few big laughs from its foolproof premise. Under the direction of David Dobkin (who previously worked with Wilson on Shanghai Knights), the movie ranges from bawdy romp to mushy romance, and that tonal identity crisis curtails the overall hilarity. But when the well-teamed costars are firing on all pistons with fast-paced dialogue and manic situations, belly laughs are delivered at a steady clip. Things get complicated when the guys infiltrate the family of the Treasury Secretary (Christopher Walken), resulting in a romantic pair-off between Vaughn and the congressman's oversexed daughter Gloria (Isla Fisher) while Wilson sincerely woos another daughter, Claire (Rachel McAdams), who's unhappily engaged to an Ivy League cheater (Bradley Cooper). Walken is more or less wasted in his role, but Jane Seymour and Henry Gibson make amusing appearances, and a surprise guest arrives late in the game for some over-the-top scene-stealing. It's all a bit uneven, but McAdams (considered by some to be "the next Julia Roberts") is a pure delight, and with enough laughs to make it easily recommended, Wedding Crashers will likely find its place on DVD shelves alongside other flawed but enjoyable R-rated comedies that embrace a naughtier, nastier brand of humor with no need for apologies. --Jeff Shannon

Nerd Check.........2007-06-27

Here's a nerd check... Go out and rent or buy this movie one night. Call a few buddies up, get a six pack (+), or whatever else floats your boat, for each buddy in the room. Have about 3-4 each. Watch the opening scene and if everyone isn't laughing or pretty pumped up then you're probably a nerd. Have the rest of the beer during the rest of the movie. Maybe slip into some scotch or tequila.. because this movie stays funny pretty much the entire way through. If you ever wanted to know what it's like to be a 30 something girl chasing guy that still hasn't grown up then you must watch this movie. These two are seriously "livin' the dream". This is already a classic. Just buy it and if you don't like it today, pick it up in 5 years and you'll figure it out.

Movie lives through Vaughn and Wilson. Both show an easy performance and want the audience to just simply have a good time.

The Story is nothing spectacular. If you liked "Meet the Fockers", you're gonna like this one as well.

Its the actors, who make the difference. Vaughn is hilarious and proofs, that he's much better in comedies than in "serious" movies. Wilson plays himself (as in every one of his movies) and scores a good 2nd place.

Walken is just Walken and thats worth half the ticket. The girls are gorgeous. Especially Rachel McAdams knocked me out. Holy Cow! The Crashers are good fun. Not an new invention of the genre, but especially because of the actors, this movie rocks!

Likable, but disappointing.......2007-05-26

I was hoping for something special with this. This movie boasts both a great cast and great setup. Two 30-something attorneys still holding on to an "Animal House" lifestyle?...oh yeah, Wilson and Vaughn fit the roles perfectly. The supporting cast includes the appealing Rachel McAdams, and the always-great Christopher Walken and Jane Seymour.

The movie itself is marketed as a comedy cut from the cloth of Animal House. And when it keeps that focus...showing the two main characters as personable rogues, the movie works. Everything seems to be in place: Plentiful schemes and partying by our heroes? Check. One great grandiose scam underway? Check. Detestable rival for our heroes? Check.

There are problems however. The movie suffers from bad timing and editing. It also takes itself way too seriously. The timing suffers because while there are some great setups, the payoffs aren't there. Here's an example--while Vaughn is staying at his latest girlfriend's family house, events run out of control to the point that he becomes unwillingly bound to the guest bed. The big payoff is when her dad comes in the room, but the scene just ends. Dad seems to notice the ropes holding Vaughn into place...but there's no real reaction.

The movie is overlong and needed some major editing when the story returns from the visit to the family house. It's pretty easy to guess how the movie will end even halfway through it, so scene after scene of plot development isn't really needed. Likewise, the cameo towards the end was funny, but could have been handled in a single scene rather than dragging on to multiple events and locations.

Finally, the movie treats itself way too seriously. I don't have a problem with a "deeper" moments, or a plot where our heroes see the errors of their ways. But the last half of the movie feels like the comedy has been jettisoned in order to follow Wilson's soul-searching.

All in all, not bad, but not nearly as good as I had hoped. On the other hand, given the stars, there was a real danger that Ben Stiller would make a cameo. Fortunately, he doesn't.

Hilarious comedy!.......2007-05-25

I'm rating this movie in general, not specifically the unrated DVD version...This is a very, very funny movie! Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson make a perfect team, and the underrated Isla Fisher steals every scene she's in. The funny parts (i.e., practically the entire movie) are REALLY funny, with no ridiculous juvenile humor. Yet there are poignant moments that reveal what great friends the two guys are in this movie, whether or not they want to admit it. When one of the guys decides he doesn't want to crash weddings anymore, his buddy goes off to find another partner in crime, and his new venue is absolutely, ridiculously hilarious. Highly entertaining movie that is just as funny the 2nd time around.

John Huddles tries hard to charm audiences with his modest little American indie comedy about a kooky British clan on a sprawling northern California estate. Rufus Sewell is the would-be family entrepreneur on a financial losing streak ready to sink the last of his fortune on a failed manganese mine. His girlfriend (Minnie Driver) can't talk him out of the doomed venture and his brother is busy getting back to nature, so eccentric uncle Nigel Hawthorne climbs down from his spiritual cloud to knock some sense into his nephew: "His karma was constipated. I gave him an enema." Executive producers Driver and Hawthorne were surely drawn to the sweetly offbeat characters and hopeful message of healing in the script, but Huddles's stylistic gymnastics distract from the comedy's gentle pace and simple tone, and even these engaging performers can't buoy the film through the phony contrivances of the feel-good finale. Despite the fact that I am a HUGE Rufus Sewell fan - this film was atrocious. The plot revolves around an oddball family of slackers who never held "real jobs". Nephew Ross constantly complians that his old uncle Cullen was a spoiled trust fund kid who lived off family money. But Nephew Ross also never was able to hold a "real job" and repeatedly loss huge sums of money in hare-brained investments. So what is the point?

The film is racist against Asians. There are approximately 15 Asian actors in this film and none of them ever speak - just state mutely into space without any dialogue. The only Asian actor that speaks, Mr. Tang does a cornball, hoky song on the guitar and behaves like a buffoon.

Inane, slowly paced plot with stilted dialogue. The most annoying thing about this film is 30% of it is shots of the actors without any dialogue just staring into space, or gazing at other actors without any dialogue, far too many very long shots of scenery, buildings and landscapes....none of those VERY LONG shots do absolutely nothing to advance the plot or build character development.

Rufus Sewell, Minnie Driver and Nigel Davenport are all highly respected actors - but the script is boring, direction is weak and the film just plods along. The entire supporting cast are untalented unknowns who were probably cast in their roles because they would work for union scale.

The only reason to purchase this film is if you are a big Rufus Sewell fan and just enjoy watching him in a bad film for his gorgeous, hunky "eye-candy" appeal. Sewell does an admirable job trying to elevate this insipid film, but even his world class acting skills cannot do much for "Uncorked". In order to make this film bearable, I simply fast-forwarded skipping all the scenes that did not have Rufus Sewell. The sound track is lovely - Rufus Sewell and the sound track are the only thing that makes it bearable to watch.

This is a "straight to video" type film that gets pulled from first run theaters after the first weekend and goes straight to cable.

A Work of Art.......2004-01-29

"And what are you going to be when you grow up?" We have all been asked this at some point. Those of us who forgot the answer live unhappy lives. Those who reminisce, live but are not happy. To those who are happy, the answer is not a memory but a way of life.

Uncorked takes a charming and witty glimpse into the soul of a confused young man whose life is going in every direction, with little success or joy. A seemingly haphazard compilation of events unites seamlessly and stops him in his tracks. He learns to face reality, not his versions of it. He realizes that happiness is not some ephemeral state, more mythic than real, but the direct and attainable result of a purposeful existence.

Uncorked has achieved that illusive state of complex simplicity. Nothing in it is superfluous. Every element enhances the theme, be it the script, photography, music. Most rewarding of all, this story is a light one. You need not cringe at the prospect of viewing it. It will not depress you; it will uplift. It will not tire you; it will rejuvenate. It will make you laugh just as you begin to cry. It is a work of art!

A quirky funny vintage with lots of perspective.......2003-12-31

Ross (Rufus Sewell) is about to make a fortune. He plans to sell all the collected bottles of wine bequeathed to him by his Uncle Cullen, the proceeds of which he will use to buy a manganese mine three miles west of the many-acre Satchem Farm they own. He will become financially solvent, and will be able to marry his girlfriend Kendal, who arrives on the farm with a quiet but pretty friend, Laurie, whom Cullen describes as "the girl with the young eyes but old soul." Laurie's quiet, reserved, very pretty, and has a very nice smile.

The title action occurs, thanks to Uncle Cullen, and deliberately it seems, and that appears to be the end of Ross's dream to get somewhere in life, as home insurance does not cover senility. Ross feels the need to be responsible, as his hermit-like brother Paul lives in the arboretum, planting trees with a bunch of H'mong, a peaceful arboreal people hailing from Laos.

Kendal has been patient, loving, and exasperated with Ross, but she's more a clear, organized person who thinks Ross should get his priorities straight. She does sympathize with him though, telling Laurie that everything Ross does is "like a perversion of the law of physics. The harder he works, the less he gets out of it."

Everybody thinks Cullen has gone around the bend when he has a twenty cubit high (about twenty-eight feet) Greek pillar made of titanium and plexiglass installed in the yard overlooking the woods, and in one of the movie's highlights, proceeds to perch himself atop it a la St. Simeon, who did so in the fifth century as an ascetic practice of achieving enlightenment. Well, everybody except Laurie. He spends the second half of the film on that perch.

However, Cullen is far from senile. As he tells Kendal, "life has a long experience of suffering, disappointments, and chaos, but the moment you stop squirming against the catastrophe of being alive, music flies out of the dog doo." But his most important pearls of wisdom are for his nephew, whom he wants to learn what he was put on earth for. What are his special gifts? To this, he enlists the aid of Laurie and Kendal.

Other characters include Tom, a former Olympic contender whose career ended when he tripped on his shoelace and broke his ankle. He spends his days diving, his interface to the real world thus severed, and barely says a word, especially to his former flame Kendal, who turned to Ross when Tom cut off communication with her.

The best performance and lines comes from Nigel Hawthorne (Cullen) hands down, playing an eccentric, idealistic, and ultimately cleverly strategic old man who's got a lot of perspective in life. As Kendal tells him, "Satchem Farm ...is a growing collection of hermetically sealed neurotics and the not so funny part is the common denominator is you." Such a far cry from the devious Sir Humphrey Appleby in Yes Minister and Yes, Prime Minister. He delivers the funniest line regarding a character: "His karma was constipated. I gave him an enema."

Laurie is played by Amelia Heinle, who bears a strong resemblance to Denise Richards. Her quiet, reserved manner, warm and compassionate smile really make Cullen's description of her as the girl with "young eyes with an old soul" appropriate. It's her quiet but potent presence and role that makes her outshine Minnie Driver (Kendal), who herself is good in this movie.

Keone Yong (Harrison Tang, the wine dealer) has an amusing moment where he plays guitar and sings a funny song in Chinese. His performance either bemuses or dumbfounds his listeners. Michael A Rodgers stands out as Paul, the arboreal hermit brother of Ross.

As Ross says in an onscreen narration, it's "so easy to lose perspective on life. It's also not hard as you think to get your perspective back." And this quirky film with its oddballs is a ticklish but heartwarming vintage.

Great Movie!!.......2003-10-01

A friend recommended this movie to me, said to take it with a grain of salt. Not your typical Hollywood movie. I love it and watch it all the time. I never get tired of it. It is wonderful and rich, funny and touching. Nothing offensive or of questionable values in the movie. Wouldn't ever be embarrased watching it with your kids, or anyone else. Great movie.

Sitting Still.......2003-09-11

"The world needs more people capable of just sitting still!" This movie has charm, wit, and best of all depth. The characters are well developed. Sometimes what we are searching for is right under our feet. Give this movie a try. I had to watch it a couple of times to really love it. Try it with the captions to get all the dialogue. The music is gorgeous as well.
