It sounds like a joke: a bashful drag queen and a young schizophrenic bring out the best in each other. Robin (Craig Russell) is a hairdresser who hasn't quite gathered the courage to get on stage and do drag. But when an old school friend named Liza (Hollis McLaren) appears at his door in a robe and nightgown, having just run away from a mental hospital where she was voluntarily committed, her manic energy gives him the strength to act on his desires. He in turn gives her a stable, loving home--until he goes to New York to audition for a drag show and his spot-on impressions of Bette, Barbra, Carol Channing, and Mae West make a splash. But as Robin's star rises, a pregnant Liza spirals into misery and madness. Outrageous may sound melodramatic, but in fact it achieves a rare realism. There's no Hollywood gloss on any aspect of their lives, from Robin's sex life to Liza's insanity, which is depicted sympathetically but not as anything easily overcome. Made in 1977, this Canadian cult film is admittedly a bit of a period piece--one look at Robin's audiences, filled with very '70s mustaches, will take more than a few gay men back to their heady, pre-AIDS-awareness days. But Outrageous remains heartfelt, and its sincere and charming performances make it worth seeing today. --Bret Fetzer

Description

A flamboyant performer, brilliant musician, and one of the founders of jazz fusion, Jaco Pastorius was the most innovative electric bass player of all time, creating a fluid sound on the fretless bass that leapt out of the rhythm section into the front line. Jaco is In peak form with a top notch band of hand picked musicians in his only full concert performance on DVD -- a must have for jazz fusion fans.

4 out of 5 stars Wrong Photographs.......2007-06-12

First, I must say that I ordered this item, a little more than a week ago and paid $17.99 US for it and I realize that it is now advertized at $14.99 US (story of my life).

However, this review has nothing to do with the price I paid.

I promptly received my order yesterday and I have to say that this DVD is totally hawesome. This is one of the best Jazz concerts I have ever watched on DVD. Jaco is simply amazing. Both the video and audio are superb.

I also like the DVD presentation; nice photographs.

HOWEVER, I have to report that, other than the front cover picture of Jaco, which is simply beautiful, all the other pictures (inside and on the back) were mistakenly reversed, showing Jaco as a left-handed bass player, which everybody knows is not the case at all. I find this somehow insulting to Jaco himself and, more importantly, to all of his fans. I am also extremely surprised that this monumental error has remained overseen since this DVD was first released, back in 1982. I personally think that I deserve a gold medal for spotting this error; what do you think?.

I love Jaco.

to all jazz lovers: do not miss this one. the amazing JACO delivers his unforgettable grooves. must have.

2 out of 5 stars It's hard to watch stars fade..........2007-05-20

Though this DVD can be good for archival purposes and those fans that have to see everybit of footage about or including Jaco, I found it missing in many areas. Jaco looks slightly bored and like he is preoccupied. He struggles in spots to come up with solos and as a result, the times that feature him are not fluid. That being said, the parts that come out are amazing and fun to litsen to, but you really need to listen for them. In fact, I have marked a couple of the high points so that I can go back and watch them later, because I don't think that I will ever sit down and listen to the whole DVD again.

4 out of 5 stars Jaco Live.......2007-05-19

I'm happy I could buy this DVD. The spirit of Jaco lives in performances like this.

5 out of 5 stars Live and "Not" so Outrageous.......2007-05-18

I will start out by saying that I give this video 5 stars only because it is Jaco and to have ANY footage of him at length is tremendous no matter what. But, to understand Jaco's performance in this concert, one has to have a grasp of his brilliant yet tragic life. By 1982, when this concert was filmed, Jaco was unfortunately experiencing serious substance abuse problems and mental health issues (I believed he suffered from manic drepression or something similar). You can see it in his face (he was likely coked up for the show). But what is most special, knowing this situation as you watch the video, is that you can see and hear Jaco's genious underneath the external disintegration. It's all there, and it is awesome and beautiful!

As already mentioned, Jaco's solos are not all that spectacular compared to other material. You sense a feeling of apprehention and lack of flow during his traditional solo slot. He seems hesitant, but he will catch you off gaurd during the show and just "nail it" sometimes and make you say "yeah!".

So definitely buy this performance, as a historial piece at the least, to chronical a snapshot in the life of THE most influential electric bass player. But I encourage everyone to look up other Jaco performances, especially those from the late 70s, when he was with Weather Report to view Jaco at his true peak.

Finally, the most deceptive thing about this DVD is the cover. That picture of Jaco is NOT even from the show! It looks like a younger (and more sober) Jaco when he actualy was in his prime.

Sometimes a movie works despite all its faults. Outrageous Fortune has a flimsy, formulaic script, so-so production values, and an odd combination of stars, but somehow it's engaging and fun. Shelley Long and Bette Midler play two struggling actresses--one a hoity-toity priss and the other a brassy slob--who learn they've been sleeping with the same guy (Peter Coyote) when he gets blown up in a terrorist assault and they confront each other in the morgue. When they discover that he's still alive, the bickering pair track him down, traipsing across the U.S. in high heels, pursued all the way by government agents, using their dubious acting talents to get them out of tough situations. The absurd plot keeps things moving and director Arthur Hiller (Silver Streak, The Out of Towners) gets cheerful performances out of everyone, particularly the strong supporting cast--including Robert Prosky (Broadcast News, Mrs. Doubtfire) as a pompous acting teacher, comedian George Carlin as a burnt-out would-be Indian, and the underused John Schuck (M*A*S*H, McCabe & Mrs. Miller) as a long-suffering agent. Contrived, cliché-ridden, but just absurd enough to entertain. --Bret Fetzer

Description

Lauren (Shelley Long, THE BRADY BUNCH MOVIE) is refinement, regimentation, and ballet slippers. Sandy (Bette Midler, THE FIRST WIVES CLUB) is brassy, bossy, and stiletto heels. They meet and it's hate at first sight. But these two opposites are shocked to discover a common bond: They share the same boyfriend -- a handsome schoolteacher (Peter Coyote, RANDOM HEARTS) who mysteriously and conveniently disappears. Mr. Right wronged them ... and when they decide to track the scoundrel down, they're thrown together in a cross-country pursuit for better or worse ... mosty for worse! Brilliantly cast and deviously written, this racy, riotous comedy provides sidesplitting laughs of outrageous proportions!

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars FUNNY!!!.......2007-06-12

This is a classic great comedy for anyone who loves comedy! These two together definately compliment each other's character!

5 out of 5 stars They don't make 'em like this anymore!!.......2007-04-23

This along with Jumpin Jack Flash, Manhatten Murder Mystery and Serial Mom is one of my all-time favorite comedies! Bette Midler is great, although Shelley Long really shines here! To name a few scenes that really stand out is the catfight scene in the morgue, the scene in the smoke shop when they are trying to get information from the manager, and the scene at the airpot when Long is trying to pull one over on the ticket agent! Long and Midler are complete opposites (probably in real life as well) so you can imagine the tension and bickering that will come along with it! As wannabe actresses living in New York that happen to be dating the same man who ends up screwing them both over, they set out on a cross-country chase to confront him and end up finding themselves in a fun-filled comedy-mystery that never loses steam! I highly recommend having this in your collection. You can watch it again and again and will find it hilarious each and every time! 5 stars all the way!

4 out of 5 stars Outrageous Fortune.......2007-03-14

If you liked 80's comedies, you'll like this movie. If you are a Bette Midler fan, this is a must see.

5 out of 5 stars One of the funniest movies I've ever seen.......2006-09-04

Outrageous Fortune is the typical 80s comedy. It isn't the highest quality film, but it alson knows it and doesn't take itself too seriously, which in the end helps make the movie as funny and rewatchable as it is. Shelley Long plays her typical uptight intellectual, while Bette Midler does what audiences want her to do: be her brash, raunchy, and irreverent self. The one-liners are delivered with perfect comedic timing ("He's not gonna murder us. Cause we're gonna be raped and murdered in THIS BUILDING!"), and the plot, while incredibly far-fetched, is silly enough to complement the mood of the movie. And while the film, at only 100 minutes, still manages to feel overlong, never stops entertaining. If in the mood for some big laughs and/or a film to lighten up a bad mood or hard day, this is the perfect film.

5 out of 5 stars Hilarious, Funny Chick Flick You'll Watch Again and Again!.......2006-07-19

Bette Midler and Shelley Long are hilarious as an unlikely duo attempting to track down their turncoat boyfriend. The two have a great chemistry and this is one of the rare, geniunely funny films that pairs up two very funny, polar opposite actresses. The action is nonstop, the scenes hilarious (especially the one in the morgue and with the sleazy smoke shop store clerk). I have watched this movie over and over again and it never fails to entertain me. Great acting by Peter Coyote and George Carlin as well.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars A must for Bundy fans!.......2005-11-25

The most memorable episode on this DVD is "I'll See You In Court" from Married...With Children's third season(1988-89). Al(Ed O'Neill) and Peggy Bundy(Katey Sagal) retreat to a motel to try to "put some spice" back into their private life. They view a videocassette, recorded by a security camera,of their next-door neighbors Steve(David Garrison) and Marcy Rhoades(Amanda Bearse) engaged in a private escapade. It turns out that the camera violated the Rhoadeses' privacy, when they were at that same motel by themselves at an earlier time. So both couples sue the owners/operators of the motel but only the Rhoadeses were awarded a nice $100 grand because the Bundys' privacy was not invaded afterall. After the trial,Al and Peggy are making love underneath the presiding judge's podium with a security camera overhead! This episode was never aired on the Fox network during its original run because because of some of its content. The FX channel did once air it in 2002,though. In "You Better Shop Around",a two-part episode from 1990-91,Al,Peg and their children Kelly(Christina Applegate) and Bud(David Faustino) seek relaxing shelter in a supermarket. Al accidentally wins a sweepstakes by becoming the store one millionth customer of the day. At the time,Al steps ahead of Marcy in the checkout line because he only had a pack of chewing gum. Balloons and confetti are falling and Marcy is bitching because she was originally the next in line. Al quipps,"What's the difference? You still are!". Al checks out a headline on the cover of the National Enquirer which reads "Steve Rhoades to marry Cher". That immediately caught Marcy's attention because he's her ex-husband(this was after Marcy married her second husband Jefferson D'Arcy). The other episodes are awesome. This is a must for every MWC fan.

4 out of 5 stars Complete seasons, please!!.......2005-04-19

This selcetion is nice enough, but basically a waste of time. Please release the complete seasons instead.

5 out of 5 stars Some More Things..........2005-03-26

It has been some time since this was released, and Seasons 1-3 are now out on DVD (Season Three having a busted theme song), but there are still points to make on this product.

Not necessarily a "bad" DVD or a "waste of money" per se, this was intended to gauge customer response. If response was great, more DVDs (and season sets) were to follow. I guess we can safely say that response was DAMN great! Aside from picture quality issues (I'm not gonna say it's great, I ain't gonna say it ain't), the subsequent season sets were quite great!

2 out of 5 stars Funny show, bad DVD.......2004-06-07

Who doesn't know the Bundy family? Al, Peg, Bud and Kelly, and their faithful dog Buck, often accompanied by their neighbours Marcy and Steve (who later is followed up by Jefferson) have been around for ages, and stole the hearts of countless people, including me.

However, DVD's like these are hardly worth the effort of releasing in my opinion. While they picked 5 funny episodes, they hardly are the funniest episodes ever.

I cannot help but feel as if this collection was meant as a pilot project; just to see whether people would actually buy Married with Children on DVD, rather than releasing the one of the seasons, and then finding out there would be no public interest.

Luckily, they realised their error by now, and released Season 1 and 2. I'd definitely recommend those over these 5 episodes.

1 out of 5 stars Don't Waste Your Money..........2003-10-18

If they were going to release a 'best of' DVD collection of Married With Children, they could have selected some better episodes. I can't believe they settled on these 5 mediocre episodes when I can think of much better classics that could have been included. I'm waiting till they release the full season box sets...

Here are more select episodes from the grungy, middle-class existence of the Bundy family, centerpiece of Fox TV's early hit series Married with Children. Choice bits include "A Man's Castle," finding Al (Ed O'Neill) in a crisis of masculine confidence after wife Peg (Katey Sagal) redecorates his bathroom fortress-of-solitude with frilly trappings. "Who'll Stop the Rain" concerns Al's misguided (and cheap) effort to fix a roof leak, resulting in multiple, earthbound falls. "Raingirl" is a good showcase for sexy comic actress Christina Applegate, playing Bundy daughter Kelly as a television station intern-turned-weather bunny suddenly offered a $250,000 contract; the problem is that her manager is also her bungling father, Al. "If Al Had a Hammer" finds the Bundy patriarch building a private room with his heirloom hammer--until the secret gets out. Gross, outrageous, but often sharp about the heaven-hell dichotomy of family life. --Tom Keogh

5 out of 5 stars So true to life.......2007-01-22

Leave it to Beaver and Father knows best were funny and great for their time period. Married with children was more like real life in america than anything on tv at the time. It was and is the best show on tv and no "comedy" show comes close. The cast had perfect comic timing and not one episode in 10 years was a clunker. Still packs a bite, enjoy!

5 out of 5 stars A must for every Bundy fan!.......2005-11-30

Memorable episodes in this package are "Raingirl",which premiered on Fox on April 29,1990 and "Who'll Stop The Rain?" which premiered nearly four months earlier on January 7,1990. These episodes are from Married...With Children's fourth season and I saw them both when they first aired. In "Raingirl",Kelly Bundy(Christina Applegate),takes a job on a TV news program as a "weather bunny". Her superiors realize how dyslexic Kelly is. Instead of saying "storm",she says "strom". Also she pronounces "Chicago" "chick ago". She was under contract for three years with an annual salary of $250,000 but her contract was revoked shortly after taking the job. Kelly's brother Bud(David Faustino) conducts a tour of the Bundy home(the tourists are Bud's high school buddies) and the buddies wave to Bud's and Kelly's mother Peggy(Katey Sagal) but not their father Al(Ed O'Neill). Kelly could have been making more money then Al as a shoe store manager. In "Who'll Stop The Rain?",Al goes to war against the Bundys' roof to plug up a hole and fix the television antenna atop it. Al,in his "moron on the roof suit",as Peggy calls it,falls off the Bundys roof, landing in the backyard. In another scene,Al and Peggy are in their bed and Al has a frying pan over his head to catch the dripping rainwater falling through the hole in the roof. After many pleas to call a profesional plumber,Al does no such thing. That's why he went up on the roof himself. This episode was also one of David Garrison's last. In this same episode,Garrison as former accountant Steve Rhoades, brings a gerbil from a pet store he now works at to the Bundy household. The female, poisonous creature attacked his wife Marcy(Amanda Bearse) after Steve placed her on Marcy's back. Steve told Marcy that the creature, that he thought was male and non-poisionous was just playing. Marcy ended up with a large lump on her back. After Garrison departed from the series in late 1989,it was written that Steve and Marcy got divorced and Steve became a forest ranger. But Marcy re-married a short time later. Long Branch,New Jersey-born Garrison returned to New York City to do a broadway show(he commuted from NYC to California to do MWC). He was later succeeded by Ted McGinley, late of Happy Days, who would play playboy Jefferson D'Arcy, who'd become Marcy's second husband and stick with her through the 1997 cancellation. The other episodes are awesome! This item is a must for every MWC fan.

3 out of 5 stars Great series - DVDs need work though.......2003-09-19

Married With Children is the show that reinvented the sitcom. From its debut in 1987 to the finale in 1997, it provided non-stop laughs. And now, five episodes are available on DVD at long last. But is this a good thing? Read on and see.

First and foremost, the good points about this DVD:
-DVD means excellent picture quality and sound
-5 extremely funny episodes
-The price
-Each episode is the complete original, not the syndication edit

Now onto what ultimately derails this collection - the bad points:

-It's a compilation of episodes from mixed seasons. Why not just release a first season box set, and then a second season, and so on?
-Episodes are NOT in original air order
-NO CHAPTER SELECTIONS! Uh, isn't that one of the reasons we hold the DVD format in such high regard?
-No extras other than trailers. I was hoping for interviews with cast and crew.
-ONLY 5 EPISODES!? Surely more than that can fit on a DVD, especially assuning they sacrificed chapter selections and extras!
-I don't care what the title says, there are episodes many times more outrageous than this.

Overall this collection is disappointing, compared to what it could have been. The other reviews also demonstrate this point excellently. Rather than buying this, consider holding off and seeing if Fox releases box sets.

1 out of 5 stars You gotta be kidding me!!!!.......2003-08-12

Let me start by saying, Shame On You Fox!!! This was one of the greatest comedy sitcoms of all time. It changed comedy on tv, like no other sitcom before it. And you got the stones to release these sub par "best of" sets...no chance, i aint buying! This was the only tv show that i watched with my father growing up. This show has fans from all age groups. America has spoken. Survivor was one of the rare lightning-in-a-bottle television events that became an instant pop culture phenomenon, like Roots, the first season of Twin Peaks, Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, and Suddenly Susan (just kidding). Sixteen contestants were left to fend for themselves on the most famous tropical isle since Gilligan's. What begins as a happy and healthy competition inexorably turns, in contestant Jenna's words, "malicious and evil." And the whole world was watching.

For devotees of the show who yearn to go back to the island, this two-and-a-half-hour video souvenir replays the most memorable moments of season 1, including all the tribal councils that sealed the castaways' fates. What makes this video collectible are the never-before-broadcast audition tapes (Susan's is a jaw-dropping hoot), as well as each castaway's parting words after being voted off the island (Stacey is particularly bitter). There is gratuitous rodent skinning, uncensored profanity (from Susan and B.B.), and nudity (unfortunately, all Richard). Thankfully, we are spared Sonja's ukulele playing.

The one mystery that remains is why the castaways didn't pull a Lord of the Flies on hokey host Jeff Probst. Even those who originally avoided the show like a rat dinner will have to admit: from Jenna's heartbreak at learning that her video greeting from home did not arrive to Susan's classic what-goes-around-comes-around "snakes and rats" speech, Survivor is compelling television. --Donald Liebenson

On May 18, 2004, the entire first season of Survivor will be released on a 5-disc set. The first four contain the episodes and bonus features. This is the 5th disc in the set. DON'T BUY THIS DISC IF YOU PLAN TO PURCHASE THE BOX SET.

This disc isn't as bad as most people say, but the season set will definitely be the better buy.

5 out of 5 stars The Right Kind of Viewer Will Give This Five Stars.......2004-02-07

This video is an overview of the original season of Survivor with some extras as noted above. It's a good review of the two tribes that started all the hub bub, but it may not be for everybody. I encourage you to watch this Survivor video if one or more of the following applies to you:

1. You missed some of Survivor 1 but greatly enjoyed the episodes you saw.
2. You are in some type of Fantasy Bowl Survivor, either at work, with friends, or on the CBS website.
3. You're on the CBS Survivor's mailing list and get excited to see the previews for the next Survivor episode in your inbox.
4. You have ever purchased an official Survivor buff or any other type of memorabilia.
5. You want to catch the attention of someone you know to be a Survivor fanatic.
6. You have applied, or would like to apply, to be a contestant.
7. You want to re-live the Greg-talking-to-a-coconut moments.
8. You own the Survivor board game.
9. You were on the first season of Survivor.
10. You need detailed instructions on how to build a Superpole.
11. Each of the items on this list is completely comprehendable to you.

If you're only feeling lukewarm about the series, this video isn't going to turn you into a fan. I would recommend Survivor: Pearl Islands for that. :)

And now I have spoken.

1 out of 5 stars Disappointment.......2004-01-12

What a waste of time. As an avid fan of Survivor I felt that the money spent was not worth it.

This was boring, boring, boring and there was no excitement whats so ever and good have gone to a fine resturant for the money spent on this garbage. :(

3 out of 5 stars Avid Survivor Fan---Not that impressed.......2003-12-26

I bought this for my parents since they didn't get to watch the first season. I would have rather watched the full season again than what they considered to be the "highlights".

The DVD starts out showing the castaways upon the boat and traveling to the island. Then you get to see them arriving on the island and setting up camp. From here, the DVD starts introducing the castaways by showing their audition tapes, their audition interview and then a few highlights of their stay on the island. Then they proceed to show you each person getting voted off and what they said after they were eliminated. They follow the order of who was voted off first, second, etc. The DVD also shows a few challenges and more emotional moments of the series, but they didn't show the best parts of the season.

I watched the whole first season and was really surprised of the things they left out during the editting of this DVD. I was very dissappointed and thought that this would be something that my parents would love since they had started watching the shows in the last few seasons. But my dad was nodding off during the viewing and it looked like several (my whole family was watching) were getting bored and watching the clock. It did cause a little discussion after we were finished, but we were mainly talking about what we missed. I really wish they would have shown just the highlights of the season instead of all the interviews and auditions. Watching the whole season in its entirity would have been nice too.

Considered by many fans to be the best season ever, Survivor: The Australian Outback - The Complete Second Season is being released April 26, 2005. This brief review of the season is ok, but the season set is definitely the better buy. The season set is six discs, one of them being this disc. DO NOT BUY THIS IF YOU ARE BUYING THE SEASON SET.

5 out of 5 stars HUGE Survivor fan!.......2004-09-14

Having enjoyed the whole first season of Survivor (it's not for sale in Australia. Had to buy it from here!), I would love to see the same done for ALL the Survivors starting with Survivor Australia. I missed a lot of that series, and although this dvd is entertaining, after having a taste of the FULL 1st season with everything including the full shows, interviews, behind the scenes etc - I WANT MORE! Bring out the same for Survivor Australia as you did for the first Survivor! I imagine there is an audience, so definately worth doing for all the Survivor seasons.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE! Don't make me grovel... it's embarrassing!

3 out of 5 stars The best Season of all! But this is only a highlight DVD........2003-04-12

The Best Season Of All! Sadly, this is only a 2-hour highlight DVD with never-before-seen footage. But not what you might think. Most of that are interviews or audition tapes. There is no nudity in this DVD version. Kel Gleason was the man I cheered for to win and Mike Skupin I thought early on would be a sure winner, but Survivor contains many unexpected surprises by nature or an act of God. We all remember Mike when the smoke from the campfire made him pass out and he fell in the fire. You will NOT see any additional footage of that here. I wish a complete, all episodes, unedited, uncensored version of Survivor 2 were made. On this DVD in the special features section is a retrospective interview of each Survivor on the CBS "The Early Show".

4 out of 5 stars Australian Outback DVD -- Great Cast, Not-So-Great DVD.......2002-12-08

It's certainly my favorite Survivor season, and I've been watching since the beginning!

This DVD I found in many ways to be better than the Season One DVD, but that's simply because of the cast and the way the DVD is organized. The extras on this one are pretty nice as well -- you even can go to the expanded Survivor 2 website directly via the DVD just by popping it in the computer. Of course, this can get annoying when you are just trying to WATCH the DVD on the computer and it keeps trying to go to the website. But I can overlook that.

Survivor Season 2 is only two hours long. How did they condense a full season of 14 hours into only two? Alot of the goodies were skipped, unfortunately, and will be skipped until CBS decides to put out a complete season DVD (hint hint). You'll be waiting for the next immunity challenge, and it will skip directly to the Tribal Council. Yuck!

I liked that this DVD seemed to touch on all the most dramatic moments of the season (all my favorite parts were there) so I can live with choppy editing. The nasty bug eating challenge was still there. The Jerri vs Colby nastiness was still there. So not ALL of the goodies were taken out.

Also included were clips of the audition tapes of these survivors, which I loved seeing. Other than that, there's not a ton of 'outrageous' footage that you've never seen before (or CBS would have shown it).

It's not a perfect DVD, but if you're a Survivor Fan, it's a must-own anyways.

5 out of 5 stars Still Outrageous.......2007-03-22

What a throw back to the the good memories of the 70's when I moved to NYC. And a GOOD one! Lot's of us then shared the same hopes and desires ... we're gonna make it. I have an original VHS copy of this film and cherish it. It's been played over and over and over again. Loaned out. Lost and re-found. Some friends and I Just watched it again. It's still wonderful. Inspiring. Moving. Personal. (No, I never did drag.) After wtching it again, this time I decided to look for the DVD. YES! Found it. I had met Craig Russell several times but I'm sorry to say I never really got to know him. I can say this that in comparison to other female impersonators I have known, he was real, not self centered with a huge ego. He cared for his fans and friends. In reference to others in the business he onces said, "do you know what STAR spelled backwards is? RATS." I came across another film he did -- Too Outrageous -- a sequal to Outrageous, made about 5-6 years later. I think all that's available for that one is a poster

4 out of 5 stars Underground movie!.......2005-07-02

It `s not easy to be engaged immediately with this picture, at least I have to recognize it. There are two definite lines that support the script.
The first is dramatic: a schizophrenic girl - Lisa - abandons the Psychiatric Institute in search of more affection and less professional treatment: her mother is a flat mind who can not understand anything about. She will find shelter in her friend: a hairdresser who simultaneously makes appearances in night clubs as travesty, playing fantastic imitations of Judy Garland, Joan Crawford, Jean Harlow and Bette Davis with elegance far from vulgarity and common places.
In this state of things, apparently Lisa seems to be not making the best choice, but the time goes by and finally in a mutual cathartic explosion, she will find affection, understanding and human comfort with her.
The picture was made with a clear resources economy, you can note it through the troubled photography and editions adjustments, but the whole result, being in the appropriate anima, can be rewarding for you.
I guess this film must have been a reference cult movie in many underground midnight circuits in the middle seventies.

4 out of 5 stars Not that Outrageous.......2005-01-26

Though in its time, the mid-seventies, I'm sure that Outrageous did live up to its name. Robin Turner (Craig Russell) is a wanna-be drag queen who needs schizophrenic Liza Conners's encouragement to take the final leap onto the stage. This story is less interesting than how well the film captures, in gritty detail, the seventies gay scene. Mental illness on film rarely works well and while Hollis McLaren does a decent job of acting, these sections feel dated and a little trite. They also detract from the highlight of Outrageous which is Craig Rusell's glorious drag homages. Some of the divas he captures spot-on, Carol Channing and Mae West in particular. Some of the others are fascinating just as performance even if he doesn't really sound or look much like the original star. I think that dressing up as a woman made Craig Russell feel deliciously naughty which he conveyed to this viewer who couldn't stop smiling as he sashayed through his numbers.

4 out of 5 stars "You'll never be normal, but you're special.".......2004-12-30

"Outrageous!" is a cult film that centres on the peculiar relationship between a Canadian drag queen, Robin Turner (Craig Russell) and Liza Connors (Hollis McLaren), a schizophrenic girl who releases herself from a mental hospital. Robin longs to take his drag act onto the stage but lacks the confidence. Liza has spent the last 8 years of her life locked up in a mental institution, and she now carries a little bag of pills that she's supposed to take around the clock. Robin and Liza need each other, and this can be explained by their total acceptance of one another. They both need to take chances in life, but as Robin says, people treat "life as though it's a can of Coke, and they're afraid to drink it too fast."

The plot isn't the strong point of this film, but Craig Russell, actor and female impersonator displays amazing talent. He transforms into Mae West, Joan Crawford, Bette Davis, Judy Garland, Barbra Streisand, Carol Channing, Ella Fitzgerald, Bette Midler and Ethel Merman. Mainly the film resonates with a sweet quaintness of the by-gone 70s days. Nightclub audiences are packed with Village People clones, and check out those 70s platform shoes.

The film quality is not good, and there are many scenes in which the dialogue is completely out of sync with the actors. Still, if you're willing to overlook these problems, "Outrageous!" is worth watching for its great one-liners alone--displacedhuman

5 out of 5 stars "You look like Shelly Winters hiding behind Fay-ruh Faucett".......2004-11-30

GAWD I miss the 70's!! Craig is wonderful as the bored hairdresser who decides to spread his wings and imitate the women he adores. The last of a dying breed..the Glamour stars like Mae West, Tallulah Bankhead dawling', Bette Davis, etc..imitators like this are a dying breed unto themselves. {We miss you too Charles Pierce!}
I was once told by a nurse that the schizophrenic characterization is one of the best and most realistic ever captured. "Crazy" Liza and Robyn [Craig] are like the 70's "Will & Grace" to you younger crowd.
The DVD version seems clearer than my VHS copy and you must realize with these older films that the crispness is NOT going to be there. But this one is good in my opinion. Plus the fact that this is just a gay classic with sad and campy fun moments. What other film will you see a nun on skates, a hunky gay cab driver talking about hitting the baths, NYC gay barfronts of the 70's, and what real gay men of that era actually looked like?

5 out of 5 stars Like Jackass but with comedians.......2005-10-21

This dvd was prettry funny, Jim Florentine (Special Ed from Crank Yankers) rounds up his comedy buddies like Artie Lange and Jim Norton to go around New York and cause trouble. Basically they do a bucnh of bad stuff and act like they dont know what theyre doing is wrong. Its Worth watching if you like that kind of comedy.

5 out of 5 stars Genius and Fresh!!!!!!!.......2005-06-20

For those of you who don't know Jim Florentine is, this DVD will surprise and shock you. He is one of the funniest pranksters on the planet. The fact that they managed to capture on video a lady freaking out and whispering to her manager their plans on how they are going to deal with Jim and his crew when they come back for more Ice Cream, is genius. Jim Norton and Kenny are hilarious, how could somebody be that mean to an autistic person and have people just stand around doing nothing? I don't know whose worst them or the people they're creeping out.. but their reactions are priceless... I mean the producer is two feet from her face shooting her with a hidden camera and she doesn't even know it.

It's unbelieveable that all this is HIDDEN CAMERA.. I mean, most hidden cameras are either hidden behind mirrors or you have some cheesy black and white blurry image from some stupid eyeglass camera... I mean I understand that it can't look like HD or something, but they do a good job capturing everything without it looking like Blair Witch.. The editing and camera quality is really professional... plus it's got this raw and real element... Nothing's fake here.. They aren't crashing golf carts or putting a toy car up their ass. Or doing any silly skateboard stunts... Their humor is horrifying people and really pestering people the way you wish you knew how to do.. You don't hear Jim reciting some cheesy line like, "My name is Jim Florentine and I'm going to blah blah blah" He just does it and it's funny... This is the East Coast humor at it's best. There's some stuff that's censored, but I have a feeling that if they sold it themselves, it'd be a different story..

I can't wait for Volume II!

    5 out of 5 stars I Can't Stop Laughing!.......2005-04-11

I bought Meet The Creeps a few weeks ago and I haven't stopped watching it since. I'm always looking for stuff like this and I'm glad I took a chance on it.

I don't know how these guys can keep a straight face when their messing with people. DeNiro wouldn't be able to keep up with them!

    Looking forward to Volume 2!
