The director/producer team that created Trainspotting turn their dynamic cinematic imaginations to the classic science fiction scenario of the last people on Earth. Jim (Cillian Murphy) wakes up from a coma to find London deserted--until he runs into a mob of crazed plague victims. He gradually finds other still-human survivors (including Naomie Harris), with whom he heads off across the abandoned countryside to find the source of a radio broadcast that promises salvation. 28 Days Later is basically an updated version of The Omega Man and other post-apocalyptic visions; but while the movie may lack originality, it makes up for it in vivid details and creepy paranoid atmosphere. 28 Days Later's portrait of how people behave in extreme circumstances--written by novelist Alex Garland (The Beach)--will haunt you afterward. Also featuring Brendan Gleeson (The General, Gangs of New York) and Christopher Eccleston (Shallow Grave, The Others). --Bret Fetzer
Description
Hailed as the most frightening film since The Exorcist, acclaimed Director Danny Boyle's visionary take on zombie horror "isn't just scary
it's absolutely terrifying" (Access Hollywood).
An infirmary patient awakens from a coma to an empty room
in a vacant hospital
in a deserted city. A powerful virus, which locks victims into a permanent state of murderous rage, has transformed the world around him into a seemingly desolate wasteland. Now a handful of survivors must fight to stay alive, unaware that the worst is yet to come

28 Days Later.......2007-07-04
This is a great movie. But you can't take it as how they advertise it, as a horror film. It isn't scary, although there are a few scary scenes. 28 Days Later isn't just another zombie movie in many ways. For one thing, there aren't zombies. Zombies are the living dead, the monsters in 28 Days are living humans, infected with a virus. This means they can die any way a human would, making a more believable story. On a whole, the movie is more of a mystery than a horror film. Throughout the story your trying to find out more about the virus. In the beginning you see how it is released but you don't know that much about it or how it spread. And besides the question of what the virus is there's how far it has spread. The film takes place in England, and is thus isolated from the rest of the world leaving the question of whether or not the rest of the world has been ravaged. The acting is great as well, while the story revolves around the main characters fight for survival their emotions and relationships are clear. This movie is much more believable than movies like Day of the Dead or Resident Evil, and in my opinion much better as well.
28 days later is a great movie.......2007-06-27
I like horror movies a lot. That's why I bought 28 days later. It's a great great zombie movie.
AMAZING!!.......2007-06-15
This movie is so creepy, so fantastic, so brilliant, so phenomenal! And the sequel is JUST as good, which is an azaming feat in and of itself! A must see for everyone who loves crazy action movies and getting scared out of their wits!!
Awesome movie........2007-06-15
This series has always been my favorite of the whole "infection/undead epidemic" type movie genre. You're also very fortunate that this review is for the product, and not the shipping quality (Hint; paying extra for faster shipment doesn't work).
one of the best movies ever.......2007-06-10

Best known for making movies about men and violence, director Walter Hill scored a misfire with this ambitious but ultimately dreary remake of Akira Kurosawa's samurai classic Yojimbo. The story's essentially the same but the setting has been switched to a dusty, almost ghostly Texas town in the 1930s, where two rival Chicago gangs are locked in an uneasy truce. Bruce Willis plays the lone drifter who allies himself with both gangs to his own advantage, working both sides against each other according to his own hidden agenda. The violence escalates to a bloody climax, of course, with Christopher Walken, David Patrick Kelly, and Michael Imperioli as trigger-happy lieutenants in a lonely, desolate war. Fans of gangster movies will want to see this, and, if nothing else, Hill has brought his polished style to a vaguely mythic story. It's far from being a classic, however, and although its action is at times masterfully choreographed, the movie's humorless attitude is unexpectedly oppressive. --Jeff Shannon
Customer Reviews:
Red Harvest retold through Gun Poetry.......2007-06-29
As far as I know, this makes the second movie produced that's based on Dashiell Hammett's 'Red Harvest' (same guy who wrote The Thin Man and The Maltese Falcon). The first was Kurosawa's 'Yojimbo', which is undoubtedly a classic of Japanese cinema, itself spawning a revolution in American movie making when Sergio Leone began making all of Kurosawa's Samurai flicks into what we now know as Spaghetti Westerns.
If you've seen Yojimbo, or its western rendition `A Fistful of Dollars', and enjoyed either one, then you should get quite a kick out of this Bruce Willis Powered send up to Hammett's first foray into grunge fiction. We already know the story (lonely town, gangs, double crossing, woman, money, gunfights, no good guy just bad guys and indifferent guys), so the delivery is what's going to make the movie.
So how's the delivery? Absolutely Gun-alicious!
The whole movie is quite visceral; the gun fights are reminiscent of John Woo (slightly unrealistic, but convincing) and the dialogue is retailored to match the characters delivery, whether it be quiet and whispered, loud and obnoxious, or just mumbles. Bruce Willis was the perfect choice for the lead, menacing and believable as always. My favorite casting choice was Christopher Walken, the great character actor of our generation. The humor and insanity he brought to `Last Man Standing' is what really tied the whole movie together, and earned it 5 solid stars.
The Bottom Line: Know the history of this movie, and you'll enjoy it all the more.
A Unique Masterpiece.......2007-05-10
Part prohibition-era gangster movie and part Clint Eastwood spaghetti western, "Last Man Standing" is a film that is entertaining from beginning to end. This movie does not take itself seriously. The characters are as if from a comic book, lacking complexity, and the dialogue is cliche. It's theme of redemption for the morally challenged "hero" , "John Smith", performed by Bruce Willis saves it from being a mindless shoot 'em up. Doesn't sound too promising? Wait until you experience it. Two rival booze profiteering gangs, one Italians and one Irish, both from urban Chicago, compete with each other for control of the "old west" town near the Mexican border that they operate out of. The only happy person in town, indeed, one of the few left other than gangsters, is the undertaker. Business is good. "John Smith" rides into town and gets the idea that he can play them off of each other to make some money, but sympathy for the plight of three women interferes with his plans. Shooting accompanied by the killing that results is the main action. If you like that sort of thing, then this is a great example.
The real star of this movie is the atmospherics and the cast. The filming is done in such a way that you are immersed in the setting. Dust, heat, colorless wasteland of both nature and the soul. The narration by our protagonist, rather than spicing it up, merely piles on the cynicism and nihilism of the externals. The musical soundtrack by Ry Cooder is amazing and my favorite part of the movie, perfectly in sync with the visual image and subject matter. I purchased the music as soon as I was able and listen to it often. One of my favorite soundtracks ever. Bruce Willis is excellent as usual and Christopher Walken is perfect as the sociopathic killer. Bruce Dern as the corrupt Sheriff and William Sanderson as the inn-keeper are great. This is a movie worth owning because you will watch it again and again.
Great Movie.......2007-02-20
Some people criticize the movie for being a rip off of Eastwood's Fist Full of Dollars. Well duh! Like Fist Full of Dollars, Last Man Standing is an HOMAGE to Akira Kuwasawa's Yojimbo. Not a rip off, LMS is a modern honoring of a classic film.
Great audio for the gun fights, great cinematography that gives the movie a definite mood. If you love 1930's gangster movies you'll love this film. One of my all time favorites!
All Guns Blazing.......2007-01-31
This movie has the best gun sounds of any movie ever; It also features more gunfights than several other movies put together...Short on plot and heavy on atmosphere and violence, this movie is pretty much Bruce Willis shooting everything in sight for an hour and forty minutes. But I love Walter Hill, who has a knack for intensity. He directs this straight forward tale with skill that raises potentially so-so material to another level. I love the dust, the Ry Cooder soundtrack, the whole Old West meets the East Coast Gangster thing; Bruce Dern and Christopher Walken are always amusing, and it's just a fun movie to watch unfold, even though you pretty much know where it's going. Sounds GREAT loud!!!
"THE MOVIE".......2007-01-03
This is one of Bruce best movies that I have seen him in. I look at this movie at least four times a month. All of Bruce Willis fans this is a DVD that you must have!!!

Science fiction took a grim turn in the 1970s--the heyday of Agent Orange, nuclear peril, and Watergate. Suddenly, most of our possible futures took on a "last man on Earth" flavor, with The Omega Man topping the doom-struck heap.
Charlton Heston plays the government researcher behind the ultimate biological weapon, a deadly plague that has ravaged humanity. There are two groups of survivors: a dwindling band of immune humans and an infected, psychopathic mob of light-hating quasi-vampires. The infected are led by Mathias, a clever, charismatic man set on destroying the last remnants of the civilization that produced the plague. Heston has a vaccine--but he and the few remaining normals are outnumbered and outgunned. By day, he builds a makeshift version of the nuclear family (with Rosalind Cash as his afro-wearing, gun-toting little lady). They plan for the future while roaming freely through an empty urban landscape, taking what few pleasures life has left. By night, they defend themselves against the growing horde of plague victims. Both a bittersweet romance and a gothic cautionary tale, The Omega Man paints a convincing portrait of hope and despair. It ain't pretty, but it's a great movie. --Grant Balfour

Customer Reviews:
Can You Dig It Baby?.......2007-05-27
Yes it's cheesy and has aged very badly. But as others have pointed it that's part of it's appeal. In a strange way, with the return of gloom and doom, this movies dosen't seem so fantastic anymore. Like it did in the 80's and wealthy 90's.
I like it as a window on the time period that it was made. People talked like that - well at least some did. The clothes, attitudes, politics everhting. It's almost like watching an alternative Earth in which civilization was wiped out in the early 70's. It works and it still packs a wallop in it's own way.
Personally I've always preferred the first edition of Stephen King's The Stand for that same reason. That novel was written in the mid-seventies. The revised edition that came out in 1989 din't work because he changed the dates and cultural references, but it's still obvious that it's a seventies novel. The Omega Man has not been changed. Just roll with it.
Still a good watch after all these years.......2007-05-15
I remember seeing this movie on channel 7's afternoon movie when I came home from school in the 70's and loving it. I watched it again and it is just as good as I remember it. You know how it goes...you remember a great movie you saw as a kid so you go out and buy it, BUT, it turns out to be not so good after all (for example, I remember loving "The Strongest Man In The World" with Kurt Russell but recently saw it again and thought it was a bore). Anyway...
This movie is still great with a great sci-fi story and a great performance by Heston. The only thing that isn't great are the extras. There is only a short behind-the-scenes extra that actually only whets your appetite for more info.
Highly recommended movie.
CHILDHOOD FAVORITE THAT DIDN'T AGE WELL.......2007-05-06
I saw this film at the theater when it was released and I really like it at the time(I still do). It does have a certain charm for me,but a person viewing it now for the first time may not think so. My rating is high because of my memories of it.
A true Sci-Fi classic....turn to an "eh! " type film?.......2007-03-22
Well, it was a good film and a really different version of "Last Man on Earth" and not even that close to the novel "I am Legend". This film is only "so-so", meaning, you'll either will like it or hate it, but, sadly, you'd think they try harder to make a great film. Its a rental at best.
70's.......2007-02-16
This film really shows its' age. Filmed in the 70's, it has the bad clothes and hair of the time. I did laugh when I heard the word "honkey" used. I hadn't heard that since the Jeffersons. This is very losely based on "I Am Legend". For a more pure version of the book, you will need to pick up "The Last Man on Earth" with Vincent Price. Heston is the real star of this movie. His performance is great as the last man on earth. Watching him unravel mentally was terrific. I wish they had spent more time with that aspect of the story before introducing other characters. All in all, it was a terrific story and worth purchasing.

It's called Last Man Standing, an apt-enough description when you consider that so many of his peers, like Sun Records mentor Sam Phillips and "Million Dollar Quartet" partners Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, and Carl Perkins, are six feet under. But Jerry Lee Lewis doesn't spend a lot of time on his feet during any portion of this two-hour show, the visual complement to his 2006 CD Last Man Standing: The Duets. Truth is, at 71, the Ferriday (Louisiana) Fireball is fairly rickety; sitting almost immobile at the keyboard, he's a far cry from the rock & roll firebrand who'd leap to his feet, kick away his piano stool, and wail, his golden locks flying. So this meeting between Lewis and about a dozen singing partners, ranging from fellow veterans (Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson, Merle Haggard) to relative youngsters (Chris Isaak, Norah Jones, Kid Rock), would have been more exciting had it happened, say, 10 years ago. It's still pretty cool. Lewis' piano chops are strong; his singing, while obviously weaker than in his heyday, ain't half bad either; he's got a great band, including guitarists Nils Lofgren and Rolling Stone Ron Wood and drummer Jim Keltner; and both he and his guests (not to mention the studio audience) are having a hellacious good time. Of course, he's still playing "Great Balls of Fire" and "Whole Lotta Shakin' Going On," the two rock & roll classics that bookend this 28-song set. But most of the repertoire emphasizes Lewis' country roots: there are Hank Williams chestnuts ("Your Cheatin' Heart" with Jones, "Jambalaya" with Nelson, "You Win Again" with Don Henley), genre classics ("Will the Circle Be Unbroken," with Kristofferson and John Fogerty), country blues ("Hadacol Boogie," with Buddy Guy), country-flavored rock ("Little Queenie" and "Honky Tonk Women" with Rock)... even a country fried version of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow," with Isaak. It's all a bit tame, but Last Man Standing (which includes some vintage Lewis performance clips, interviews, and a few brief bonus features) is nonetheless a worthy celebration of a national treasure. --Sam Graham
Description
Jerry Lee Lewis is an American rock 'n' roll and country music icon - a singer, songwriter, and pianist who's been amazing his audiences with his piano pyrotechnics for half a century. Lewis has never stopped touring, and he still delivers explosive concerts that are unpredictable, exciting, and personal. Following the critically acclaimed release of Last Man Standing in the fall of 2006, Lewis gathered with friends and family to perform at a series of private shows in New York and Los Angeles that were filmed for this DVD. Rock 'n' roll, soul, and country music legends gathered from the world 'round to show their admiration for one of the great original song stylists of all time. Last Man Standing Live is an intimate and unprecedented event in music history. Don't miss it!
Customer Reviews:
All Killer.......2007-06-17
I had the pleasure of seeing Jerry Lee Lewis live this year at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. Looking aged and not moving too well he was escorted to his piano. Then something great happened: as soon as he started to play the years melted away and he was the famed Killer once again.
Last Man Standing tries to show this side of Jerry Lee through a sort of tribute concert/studio recording session for his most recent Duets album.
The concert portion filmed in LA on September 29, 2006 has Mr.Lewis rocking with a group of admirers who all seemed awed to be in his presence. There are legendary performances from Tom Jones, Soloman Burke, Norah Jones and others. The band cooks but is a little guitar heavy at times with Ronnie Wood taking his Stone on Loan persona on the road.
The studio portion of the disc features performances by John Fogerty, Kris Kristofferson, and Merle Haggard.
This is a disc to see if you are a fan of legendary rock and roll.
last man standing dvd.......2007-05-14
i think this a great buy
i personally enjoyed the whole dvd the guest artists were great
and j.l.l. himself was brilliant( for a guy of his age)
reccommend this to all j.l.l. fans
Jerry Lee Doin' His Very Best.......2007-05-13
This is a fantastic dvd. Jerry Lee is better than ever and he has brought along several friends. Tom Jones on End of the Road is quite a treat. Mr. Jones clearly has stock in whatever company markets Botox. Also, Kris Kristofferson is great on "Once More With Feeling". Doin' his very best.
Last Man Standing.......2007-05-13
"The Killer" still can rock.... Great to see a living legend sing with the lokes of Tom Jones, Willie Nelson and Nora Jones. He still has the voice and the moves (a little slower).
A great talent, a great video!!
Supereb.......2007-05-12
What's not to like? This was by far the best concert video I have ever purchased. Vintage Jerry Lee. He still has "it." Could have watched 90 minutes more. (Here's hoping for an encore performance!)Viewed this on an airplane, and it attracted considerable attention from people sitting nearby and even the flight attendants. Jerry's greatness and legacy is just as evident today as 40 years ago. A wonderful experience with a recommended "don't miss"!

Customer Reviews:
this movie was not that great.......2007-06-26
this movie was not some of their best work. It was probably fantastic twenty years ago, but it left a lot to be desired these days. It was kind of bland, very dull, and just not something I would recommend.
California History.......2007-06-09
This film shows the side of Californias history that no one wants to talk about. It makes you realize how important it is to hold on to our family culture, and history no matter what your background. This is a film anyone who lives in California, or anywhere for that matter should watch.
Praise for "Last of His Tribe".......2007-03-31
I remember first seeing this as a play when I was about 10 years old performend by a community theater group. It was so powerful, the story stuck with me for years. The movie is also powerful, and allows the viewer to see the perspective and dilemnas that anthropologists faced (and still face), and also allows the viewer to see Ishi's perspective and world view.
Another good film is the documentary, "Ishi, Last of the Yahi". Both are great for older kids (middle school and up) studying US or California history.
Last of His Tribe -- DVD.......2007-03-20
All received in good timing and good price. Very pleased.
Excellent Movie.......2006-11-09
This movie has great historical value, especially for the State of California. The story of Ishi is one everyone should know. He was the LAst of His Tribe and just came walking out of the bush one day. No one even thought there was any of his tribe left and he taught us all a great deal about a people that had been wiped of the face of the earth. The acting in this movie was great and if you are a fan of Ishi then this is definately a movie you want to see. If you are a fan of History, see it as well.

Customer Reviews:
What can I say?.......2007-05-30
This movie scared the hell out of me when I was a little kid. Is there any other service for a B movie like this? The dark elements of the woman being suicidal, etc. made it even creepier, for a 50's horror movie. I can see it being re-made, sort of Independence Day mixed with Night of the Living Dead, only the zombies would be robots. I think I'm having an Ed Wood moment...
A little below the usual B-movie standard.......2007-02-16
I hate to come down on B-movies. Even though a lot of people think they're cheesy and cheap, I feel they project a certain creativity. "It! The Terror from Beyond Space" (1958), "Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla" (1974)--but not "Target Earth" (1954) as much.
The plot and concept were perfect, in theory. A city has been evacuated due to the invasion of robots, most likely from Venus. A few stragglers must battle their way to freedom and safety.
However, the only sci-fi element used in the film was a robot--who represented a whole army of them. No spaceships--blurry laser beams and hollow acting.
"Target Earth" (1954) isn't that bad. If my copy didn't work any more, then I'd still buy another.
Old Fashion Sci Fi.......2006-11-04
I enjoyed this movie years ago when I was younger. Believe it or not it is still as good as I remember. Suspense, bad acting, crummy special effects. This is how movies were made back then without all the flash and gore this is still a good movie.
Target Earth - Not a Classic, but deserves a chance........2006-09-01
While Target Earth may not be a well known, classic Sci-Fi movie, it certainly gives a decent swing at the genre. Being Herman Cohen's first solo-produced film, Target Earth most definately IS science fiction. The plot of the film is one of the most frightening and classic ideas in the anals of sci-fi - that of the Earth being invaded by beings from another world. The threat in Target Earth, however, is an encroaching vanguard of robots which precede the actual alien invasion. A novel idea indeed. The acting in TE is good, with Richard Denning (Creature from the Black Lagoon, The Day the World Ended, The Black Scorpion) cast as the hero.
If you enjoy watching and collecting classic sci-fi from the 1950s, then Target Earth will make an excellent addition to your DVD library.
"Denning...Crowley...Grey...Reeves ~ Target Earth (1954)...Herman Cohen".......2006-09-01
VCI Home Video and Allied Artists presents "TARGET EARTH: (1954) (75 mins B&W) . . . under Sherman A. Rose (Director / Editor), Herman Cohen (Producer), Kay Rose (Producer), Paul Fairman (Book Author - based upon the story "Deadly City"), Bill Raynor (Screenwriter), James Nicholson and Wyott Ordung (original screenplay), Guy Roe (Cinematographer), Paul Dunlap (Composer (Music Score), David Koehler (Special Effects), Stanley Orr (makeup), Morris Hoffman (set decorator), James Sullivan (art director) --- cast includes Richard Denning (Frank), Kathleen Crowley (Nora), Virginia Grey (Vicki), Richard Reeves (Jim), Robert Roark (Wilson), Mort Marshall (Charles Otis), Arthur Space (General), Whit Bissell (Scientist), House Peters, Jr. (Technician), Jim Drake (Lieutenant), Gaylord "Steve" Pendleton (Colonel) . . . . . . our story thus follows raw panic, an astounding science fiction drama of a deserted metropolis and the frenzied few who were left behind...our cast of survivors living day and night in incredible terror, mixed with uncivilized violence in the savage battle for survival against the horror of the fantastic unknown... this very early film in the genre of science fiction uncovers our silent thoughts, is it possible for aliens from another world to invade our planet...much to ponder as this wonderful script with top notch performances by Richard Denning, Kathleen Crowley, Virginia Grey and Richard Reeves pull us into the story and give us a thriller to remember for days...remember this is a '50s sci-fi when we were still young and innocent, films of this nature was thought provoking and entertaining.

Specal footnote, producer Herman Cohen (August 27, 1925 - June 2, 2002) was a producer of B-movies during the 1950s, who helped to popularize the teen horror movie genre with films like the cult classic "I Was a Teenage Werewolf" (1957)...his motion picture career began at his local cinema, the Dexter Theater in Detroit, during his preteen years; he worked there as a "gofer" and later as an usher...his next stop was assistant manager of Detroit's Fox Theater. After a Marine Corps hitch, Cohen worked as sales manager for the Detroit branch of Columbia Pictures, then relocated to Hollywood and worked in the publicity department of Columbia there. He produced his first movies for Jack Broder's Realart Pictures in the early 1950s and made several subsequent pictures for Allied Artists and United Artists. Cohen made exploitation history in the mid-1950s when he began producing some of American International's earliest hits, among them the cult favorite "I Was a Teenage Werewolf." (1957) featuring unknown horror actor Michael Landon as a troubled teenager and Whit Bissell as the primary adult. It was written and produced by cult film producer Herman Cohen, it was made on a very low budget but grossed as much as US$2,000,000 per week in its early weeks of release, and was one of the most successful films released by AIP (American International Pictures)..Herman Cohen's filmography, The Bushwhackers (1952), Kid Monk Baroni (1952), Bela Lugosi Meets a Brooklyn Gorilla (1952), Battles of Chief Pontiac (1952), River Beat (1954), Target Earth (1954), Magnificent Roughnecks (1956), Dance with Me Henry (1956), The Brass Legend (1956), Crime of Passion (1957), I Was a Teenage Werewolf (1957), I Was a Teenage Frankenstein (1957), Blood of Dracula (1957), How to Make a Monster (1958), Horrors of the Black Museum (1959), The Headless Ghost (1959), Konga (1961), Black Zoo (1963), A Study in Terror (1965), Berserk! (1968), Django il bastardo (1969), Crooks and Coronets (1969), Trog (1970), Craze (1973), Gatto dagli occhi di giada, Il (1977)...In the 1960s and 1970s, he began producing horror films in the United Kingdom, working with such stars as Joan Crawford in "Berserk"! and "Trog" and Jack Palance in Craze. In 1961, he returned to his roots in Detroit purchasing the Fox Theater he had worked for in his youth. By the late 1970s, Cohen was working more in writing and distribution than in film production. He founded Cobra Media, a domestic distribution company, in 1981. Cohen died of throat cancer June 2, 2002.

Part road movie, part romantic comedy, part thriller, and a whole lotta fun, The Mexican could get by on star power alone, but it offers Brad Pitt, Julia Roberts, and a clever plot full of delightful surprises. It's a thoroughly enjoyable shaggy-dog story in which the downtrodden Jerry Welbach (Pitt) copes with a dual dilemma: his girlfriend Samantha (Roberts) has just dumped him to pursue solo ambitions in Las Vegas, and a manipulative mobster has ordered Jerry to Mexico to retrieve a coveted antique pistol (the "Mexican" of the title) that carries a legacy of legend, death, and danger. Jerry soon has his hands full with bandits, bloodshed, and a grizzly hound dog that vanishes and reappears with amusing regularity. En route to Vegas, Samantha's taken hostage by a burly assassin (James Gandolfini) who's attached to the gun-fetching scheme and is, in more ways than one, not who he seems to be.
Like a good magic act, J.H. Wyman's original screenplay distracts you from its gaps of logic, using unexpected revelations to fuel its strategic vitality. It also provides a wealth of character development, and director Gore Verbinski (Mouse Hunt) gives his stellar cast equal time to shine. It hardly matters that Pitt and Roberts spend most of the film apart; their time together is worth waiting for, and the machinations that separate them play out like a cross between vintage Peckinpah and Romancing the Stone. And why is the accursed pistola so valuable? That's just another surprise, setting the stage for the arrival of yet another big-name star, whose motivations are pure in a film full of double-crosses and darkly shaded humor. With a giddy plot like this, star power is just icing on the cake. --Jeff Shannon
Customer Reviews:
Hey! THAT was pretty good!.......2007-06-11
I bought this DVD for a single scene I had seen once. The scene was worth purchasing the DVD, or so I thought. Wrong! Much of the movie was worth the price of the DVD. Actually, I more than got my money's worth. The acting is great, the plot is a great tease, and it never stops moving. I would have given it 4 stars, but the language was unnecessarily much thicker than I cared for. But all in all, a VERY solid movie.
zzzzzzzz............2007-01-28
Unfortunately the acting of Brad Pitt & Julia Roberts is insufficient to make this a great film. The storyline and the script in general is quite average.
Pitt is sent to Mexico by a mob chief to pick up a cursed but valuable gun called the Mexican, but things turn sour as you can expect, while his girlfriend (Julia Roberts) is kidnapped by a fruity hitman. It felt a bit like a children's film to me.
The film is worth watching and is fairly enjoyable, but you probably won't want to watch it again anytime soon.
charming but ultimately disappointing.......2007-01-24
WARNING! THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS!
Brad Pitt is utterly irresistable as the hapless Jerry. I am continually amazed that someone as good looking as Brad can convincingly play such backward people (Think 12 Monkeys, Snatch, Fight Club, etc).
Julia is Julia. She's fluffy, adorable, and like Brad, a beautiful person playing a kind of dork--she's not as convincing as Brad, but still good.
James Gandolfini steals the show. He's wonderful, lovable, and the chemistry between him and Julia is great. HOWEVER, just when you're completely in love with him, and you're thinking he's the greatest thing in the movie, Brad's character, Jerry, shoots him dead.
What were the producers thinking? To kill off the character that everyone loves the most? Didn't they have a test audience? Couldn't they have given him a bulletproof vest and shown him walking away at the end? Wasn't it enough that they killed off his boyfriend? Did they have to kill him too?
I probably would have given the movie 4 stars if they hadn't killed him off. If you don't mind movies where the main character is unexpectedly offed, then you'll love this film. Not for me.
Toilet - The Movie.......2007-01-10
I recently tried to watch this movie by just looking at the case of the movie and thinking that this would be a very romantic movie starring Julia Roberts and Brad Pitt but i could not watch the whole movie, i had to stop it because of too many toilet related scenes. Because of these scenes it made me think that this movie should not have named The Mexican, it should have named "Toilet" or "Ugly Toilet" or "Toilet Exchangers". There was not a single character in this movie whom the director did not show us going to the toilet. One character comes out of the toilet and the other goes in and this carries on making the viewer think that they do not have any thing else to do. This was an ugliest and worst movie i have seen in my life time. This was an ugly movie by ugly Americans named "The Mexican". I think Mexicans should have sued the director. By looking at the above comments, would any body think that i would recommend this movie. Nada

Description
Hailed as the most frightening film since The Exorcist, acclaimed Director Danny Boyle's visionary take on zombie horror "isn't just scary?it's absolutely terrifying" (Access Hollywood).
An infirmary patient awakens from a coma to an empty room?in a vacant hospital?in a deserted city. A powerful virus, which locks victims into a permanent state of murderous rage, has transformed the world around him into a seemingly desolate wasteland. Now a handful of survivors must fight to stay alive, unaware that the worst is yet to come?
Customer Reviews:
You're also very fortunate that this review is for the product, and not the shipping quality (Hint; paying extra for faster shipment doesn't work).
one of the best movies ever.......2007-06-10
i had to buy the movie after my cousin told me about it. so i did. i watched the movie with my dad and brothers. we all loved the movie. now i just have to get to the movie theater before the sequel 28 weeks later leaves the theaters. great movie. definitely recommend to any zombie movie lover.

Vincent Price gives an atypically restrained performance as the sole survivor of a worldwide plague that revives its victims as bloodthirsty vampires. During the day, he canvasses his abandoned hometown, tracking down and stalking his former friends and neighbors, always making sure to return before nightfall, when the dead rise to assault his fortified house. Hope arrives in the form of an apparently normal young woman (Franca Bettoia), but her agenda proves to be even more sinister than that of the vampires.
Based on the 1954 novel by coscripter Matheson (whose displeasure with the final product spurred the use of a pseudonym), this Italian-made production is best known for its influence on George Romero's Night of the Living Dead. The similarities between the two films go beyond the presence of shuffling zombies and housebound heroes; both feature taboo-breaking scenes of interfamilial murder, and both end on bleak, dystopian notes. While The Last Man on Earth lacks the political and darkly satirical shadings (and graphic gore) that make Night of the Living Dead a more memorable experience, the combination of Bava-esque Gothic atmosphere and bleak, documentary-style camerawork by directors Ragona and Salkow (the brother of Price's agent Lester Salkow) lend themselves to moments of pure frisson that compare laudably to Romero's film. Matheson's novel also provided the source material for the awkward 1971 Charlton Heston vehicle The Omega Man. A planned third version, helmed by Ridley Scott and starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, was shut down in its earliest stages due to skyrocketing budget costs. --Paul Gaita

One good, one OK.......2007-06-14
"Panic in the Year Zero" is an outstanding movie. It is as timely today as it was when made. "The Last Man on Earth" is OK and Vincent Price carries the day. It did show its European production style with a lot of fits and starts and no smoothness in continuity.
Buy the set for "Panic in the Year Zero" which is thought-provoking and a good survival primer. Watch "The Last Man on Earth" on a rainy day.
Great stuff.......2007-05-26
I remember seeing Panic when I was just a little (like maybe eight or nine years old) kid. It was on TV and I thought it was great. Having watched it now, as an adult and having grown up during the Cold War, I see just how great it really was. In a sense, it was visionary in its portrayal of society's reaction to a nuclear attack. Miland's performance was incredible as were the other actors in the film. Add to that fact that Miland also directed this film and I believe it truly shows the man's talents and genius. Yes, there was a level of nostalgia for me as I watched it, but the film points to some very significant issues that I feel we all need to address.
I have not yet watched Last Man but will do so soon.
The post apocalyptic world is not a pretty place.......2007-02-26
I bought this(these) movies basically because I enjoy the MGM Midnite series(bringing you b-movies gems of the past at a decent price).
Panic in the yEar Zero is a good/alright movie-it's the first movie that Ray Milland directed, and it was written by Jay Simms, who also wrote the cult favorite "Creation Of The Humanoids".
The real reason I bought this was to get a decent print of "The Last Man On Earth"-written by Richard Matheson(under a pen name of Logan Swanson).
There are other print on dvd around (and probably a lot cheaper too)but this is a great print, and as a extra BONUS there's an video interview with Richard Matheson as well.
Last Man.......2007-02-16
I really just bought this for "The Last Man on Earth". For years I have picked up various copies of this movie only to be disappointed by the quality of the picture and sound. When I saw this MGM version I bought it and hoped for the best. I can honestly tell you this is the best version I have seen. Fantastic sounds and picture for a 40 year old movie. Based on the Matheson novel "I Am Legend", this movie is a must for Price fans and fans of the vampire/zombie genre. Panic in the Year Zero is really just a bonus for me. I had never seen the movie. Though it is very dated, I guess it was quite racey for the times, and probably very scary with the Cuban Missle crisis right around the corner. This film is of nice quality as well. This is well worth the asking price.
Last Man Standing(I don't know what that's supposed to mean).......2007-02-02
I received this movie in a very timely manner and it was in great condition. The DVD looked like it was transferred directly from the film itself. It was grainy and had that old theater quality, which at first I was a little annoyed by, but as the movie continued, it sort of made everything a little more authentic, like listening to a record on vinyl.
The movie itself was a mixed bag. Anything with Vincent Price is at least worth a look, and this movie served as not only a very close adaptation of a well known story(I am Legend by Richard Matheson) now under production at a major studio, but as a direct inspiration for one of the best horror films ever-Night of the Living Dead. All those facts about the movie peaked my interest and I was very excited to be able to see it. I came away from the experience satisfied, if a tad underwhelmed.
The plot of the movie revolves around a plague that has devastated the world population. All the victims of the disease die, then return as a weak strain of vammpire. We're not talking abuot typical vampires though, they have all the weaknesses but none of the strengths. They're physically weak, and their brains function at minimal capacity. Vincent Price plays a man who is apparently the only surviving member of humanity. By day he wanders the streets collecting supplies and finding the vampires resting places and killing them. By night he holes up in his barricaded house and waits out the inevitable attempts to break in by an ever growing grouop of the undead, one of which was an old friend. In the last quarter of the movie, he stumbles upon another survivor who is not what she appears.
The pluses of the movie are several, Vincent Price being one as his performance oozes a quiet desperation and his excitement at finding someone else alive is palpable. He has the weight of carrying the film and does so wonderfully. The night attacks have a great creepiness about them and you can definatly see a direct link to NOTLD in these scenes. The biggest difference being the fact that these living dead creatures talk. One of them(Vincents characters friend) pounds away endlessly at the barred window calling his name over and over in a dry, monotone wail. Its a great spooky moment. The scenes during the day are well done too. Showing the monotony of having his set routine planned out every day and there are several striking images, most namely a giant fire pit that burns constantly giving him a place to dispose of bodies. The shortcomings of the movie however almost balance out the good stuff. the movie is a little dated and the acting of most of the secondary characters(primarily introdcued in flashback) verge on cheesy in that old Hollywood Melodramatic vain. Scenes of Mr Price and his family(who contacted the disease) vary from forced to heartbraking as Mr Price has to deal with watching his daughter die. For the most part though these scenes are a little overexplanatory and sometimes unnecessary. These scenes provide some of the main frustration with the movie, portraying the bleakness and hopelessness of the story but done with clunky overbearing acting, along with that old hollywood opinion that audiences can't figure things out for themselves, so explain, explain, explain. Mr Price has several voiceovers at the beginning of the movie as well that seem extraneous. His voiceovers when used as a tool to set up the story and portray his lonliness work very nicely, but when used to illustrate very simple points the really don't need verbalization, become very frustrating very quickly.
All in all though,if you like classic horror and if you want to see an old school end of the world flick that has the guts to tack on a bleak ending that most movies of that era wouldn't, you could do alot worse.

Michael Jai White replaces Ving Rhames in Undisputed II: Last Man Standing, a sequel to the 2002 Undisputed, in which a heavyweight champion boxer is sent to prison as a ruse to get him to fight a champion pugilist on the slammer circuit. White is serviceable as "Iceman" Chambers, this time arrested in Russia (framed for drug possession) and sent to hard time in a horrible prison. There Iceman resists efforts to convince him to fight a champion kickboxer (Scott Adkins), but the system is determined to break him or get him to cooperate with the plan. This brutal adventure is pretty much by-the-numbers as follow-up features go, but it is generally exciting, and martial arts buffs will certainly enjoy the taut action sequences. --Tom Keogh
Description
Sequel to the 2002 film. This time, Heavyweight Champ George "Iceman" Chambers (White) is sent to a Russian jail on trumped-up drug charges. In order to win his freedom he must fight against the jailhouse fighting champ Uri Boyka (Adkins) in a battle to the death. This time he is not fighting for a title, he is fighting for his life!

Great Movie.......2007-06-11
I really love the action in this movie. Some of the language however, is a little over the top. The purchasing experience was wonderful. Fast shipment and the condition was just as advertised.
superb.......2007-05-22
just like every other reviewer here, i was surprised by how good this movie was. i was in awe while watching how quick these fighters moved and i was extremely glad that someone recommended this to me because i wouldn't have even thought twice about it.
not much to say about the plot other then it has been done to death by other movies. don't let that discourage you, it's still well worth a watch. the only thing that i wished was different was that it wasn't a sequel to the first undisputed. the character differences of Iceman were unbelievably noticeable and that is why i would like to make it clear that i rated this movie as a movie all on it's own, not as a sequel. there were no references to the first one and if it weren't for the name of the champ as well as the movie title, you wouldn't even know they were one in the same.
U II.......2007-03-21
I enjoyed this movie. I only bought it because of White, but it was not the greatest but pretty OK for entertainment.
Undisputed II'Last man standing.......2007-03-09
A lot of action. All fights, axcept the final, were intence.
undisputed 2.......2007-03-09
A pretty good movie, it was definetly better than I expected it to be, good enough for me to submit a review about it.
