Strictly for kids, this 1999 live-action feature version of the popular cartoon series seems long even at 80 minutes. As a video, it's easier to take and appreciate for what works best in the story: the special effects. Matthew Broderick plays the security guard who is physically transformed into a multi-use cyborg with a zillion attachments, from stilts to helicopter blades to skis. A crimefighter in raincoat and fedora, and equipped with a nifty Gadgetmobile, the hero investigates the death of a man linked to the villainous Sanford Scolex (Rupert Everett). Scolex, who blames Gadget for having to wear a prosthetic hand, develops an evil robot twin of the good inspector, causing much mischief and giving Broderick an opportunity to poke fun at his own performance of the virtuous Inspector. The action is shaky, the script plods along, and the effects soon take over; Everett has to go to the extremes of hamminess just to be seen above it. But children of a certain age will almost certainly engage with the more clever stuff and forgive the rest. --Tom Keogh

4 out of 5 stars lots of comedy, a bit of crime.......2006-09-04

This movie was not as good as the second gadget movie. It was funny, and that was the best part. Claw was a very bad villian, so I was into that. I like villians.

The first time that I wanted to rent it at blockbuster, my Dad thought that it may be inappropriate. Then he changed his mind. We watched it together, and like it very much. It was so good that I know own it on DVD.

5 out of 5 stars Go-Go Gadget Whatever.......2005-12-12

Matthew Broderick was a wonderful Inspector Gadget,I would love to have this on DVD,I have it on VHS. I want to see the music video of I'll be you're everything by Youngstown. Michelle Trachenburg was a wonderful Penny.

3 out of 5 stars Great Cast Wasted In A So-So Movie!.......2005-10-18

I liked the Inspector Gadget cartoon so when I heard they made it into a live-action movie I went to a movie theater to see it and despite having a great cast that includes Matthew Broadrick, Michelle Trachtenberg, Joely Fisher, etc, the plot of this movie was kind of rushed and uneven and just disappointing!

I bought this for my girls ages 4 and a half and 6. They love it. I wish there were a few more episodes on there but still it is great. A good buy if you are looking for a non violent cartoon with a bunch of fun!

3 out of 5 stars Not as good as I remembered.......2007-03-30

You really have to embrace the kid in you to enjoy this wacky series. I had to be in the mood to watch these before I could get into them, something I normally don't have to do with cartoons from my childhood. So yes, these have aged. That said, they're STILL better than %99 of the trash on TV today & deserves to have the rest of the episodes on DVD. The cartoons in this set are:

Disc One
#01. Winter Olympics (1982 pilot, AKA Gadget In Winterland)
#02. Monster Lake
#03. Down On the Farm
#04. Gadget at the Circus
#05. The Amazon

Disc Two
#06. Health Spa
#07. The Boat
#08. Haunted Castle
#09. Race To the Finish
#10. The Ruby
#11. A Star Is Lost

Disc Three
#12. All That Glitters
#13. Movie Set
#14. Amusement Park
#15. Art Heist
#16. Volcano Island
#17. The Invasion

Disc Four
#18. The Infiltration
#19. The Curse of the Pharaoh
#20. M.A.D. Trap
#21. Basic Training
#22. Sleeping Gas

5 out of 5 stars Wowsers....what an excellent starting set!!!.......2007-03-13

I just picked up my copy of the first Inspector Gadget episodes, and they are such a great investment to my collection! What Gen-Xer didn't love this series when it first aired from 1983-86?!

So great to see "The Pharoah" episode again, which had the most eerie score of the first season! But each episode carries so many memories as Gadget, Penny & Brain trek through Metro City and across the globe in stopping Dr. Claw's nefarious crimes and plots for world domination! My sister & I became quite the geography gurus in grammar school as an upshot of regular viewings of Gadget's adventures...something positive and sorely lacking from today's animated tripe!

While this box set is indeed an auspicious start, I would be most eager to see the second season ('85-'86) come to DVD from DIC. What made those episodes even better were the newly automated Gadget house and having the episodes grouped into three's...namely, Gadget faced off against the same MAD agent(s) in different perilous traps/crimes. Dr. Spectrum was the Mac-Daddy agent of them all with his ghost pellets ("Ghost Catchers"), de-materializing phone gun ("Busy Signal"), and his most diabolical invention...his nightmare wave generator ("Bad Dreams Are Made of These", hands-down the best Gadget epsiode ever made...the story, MAD hideout, weapons, score, sound F/X just ALL perfectly came together in this one!!!)

GO, GADGET, GO!!!!!

A live-action Inspector Gadget is back, this time with higher tech gadgets and more special effects. French Stewart (TV's Third Rock from the Sun) replaces Matthew Broderick as the bumbling detective in a plot that revolves around the glitch-ridden Gadget's replacement by a completely robotized female. Parent Trap's Elaine Hendrix does what little she can with the one-dimensional role of "G2." Still, Gadget falls for his rival and the pair team up with his smart-as-a-whip niece Penny and her brainy beagle for a showdown with Claw. Where Broderick struggled to humanize the caricature of an inept detective in the 1999 original, Stewart doesn't even try. Instead he plays Gadget as a cartoon, with endless mugging and over-the-top theatrics. The enhanced special effects may placate young viewers, but without the comedy of the original, that's small comfort. The best thing about this movie? It's rated G and, thus, harmless. (Ages 4 to 10) --Kimberly Heinrichs

Description

Could it get worse for our hero? What goes down next is the G-ticket of hair-raising, gadget-crazy mishaps, miscues, stakeouts, and showdowns as G1 and G2 try to go-go save the world with help from Brain, niece Penny, and the irrepressibly tricked-out Gadgetmobile!

5 out of 5 stars An Excellent Family Comedy.......2006-09-04

A very enjoyable family comedy. Sort of like the first inspector movie -- but double the gadgets. Double the gadgets means double the fun. If you put an extra "y" in fun, you know what that spells -- "funny".

It is extra funny. If you are six years old like me, I bet that you will like both inspector gadgets on DVD. I say buy them both.

4 out of 5 stars More like the cartoon.......2006-04-20

I've seen both the first and second Inspector Gadget movies. I was (and still am) a huge fan of the Inspector Gadget cartoon show (one of my all time favorites, actually), so I was really looking forward to when the first one came out. I was sorely disappointed in it. I found this one to be better. Here are some of my reasons:

1. My favorite character from the cartoon is Penny. I'm glad to see she got more screen time in this movie than in the first one.

2. I found French Stewart's Gadget to be more of a bumbling doofus than Matthew Broderick. Stewart's Gadget, to me, was a lot more like the Gadget in the original cartoon.

3. The biggest mistake they made in the first one: Dr. Claw. You are NOT SUPPOSED TO SEE HIS FACE!!!!! Adding an actual claw for a hand is a nice touch, though. Also, in the first one, Rupert Everett was too young to play Claw. I don't know who played him in this one, but the voice was better as well. It was raspier than what Rupert Everett did in the first one.

All in all, I felt this movie was more like the cartoon than the first one. I'm not a fan of live action movies based on cartoons, but I found this to be a good remake.

1 out of 5 stars what was this?.......2006-02-15

This movie proves that the 1st should have been the last. It was worse then the 1st movie, it was even worse then the animated inspector gadgets.
I didn't like it but I do like the over all story line of all the inspector gadgets: a man who becomes a robot, but is still a man. he is no where near perfect, he is often blind to what is really going on, even stupid. Yet he ends up saving stuff or people with a lot of help from his niece Penny. And some how he is the hero once again!
Don't Buy this one, buy the first one.

1 out of 5 stars Do-over of crap.......2006-01-31

I love everything don adams did from get smart to inspector gadget. Then i watch the first one and it was good( sort of). But i had too much hope for this one because i expected don adams. At the end of the first one he made an apperance as the voice of brain. So i rented this to see what they continued and what i got was THIS! Pete jr from the goofy cartoon of the ninties is brain, french stewart is gadget,he falls in love with an android, and now all his faults are caused by a chip, and what happend to the good doctor. The only thing they did right this time around was hide claw's face.

Wowsers, Inspector Gadget is back for an hour of animated fun, based on the original cartoon series (1983-1986) about a bumbling bionic police investigator who saves the day against the wily ne'er do well, Dr. Claw. Since the show's cancellation, a number of spinoffs, sequels, and feature films have tried (with varying success) to capture the essence of the original tale with its distinct characters. Kudos to this rendition for staying true to the series' vintage style, aided by the veteran voice-over of Maurice LaMarche (Animaniacs) as Gadget. The story opens in Metro City where tourism is plummeting as Dr. Claw makes known his plans for world domination. Inspector Gadget takes the case, yet is quickly distracted by the discovery of a giant egg which hatches a prehistoric flying lizard. The scaly reptile becomes the story's requisite supervillain, which Claw quickly employs for his own gain. The inspector's gadgetry is as impressive as ever, while the banter with his trusty gadgetmobile (voiced by Bernie Mac) offers plenty of laughs. Meanwhile, Gadget's niece, Penny, supplies the investigative smarts along with science whiz and best pal Loony Purkle. Since Gadget blends the best of Jacques Clouseau and Maxwell Smart, fans might miss the voice of Don Adams, though LaMarche is no stranger to the show and likely will continue as Gadget, especially since the ending leaves plenty of room for a sequel. 4 out of 5 stars Good Movie.......2006-07-28

I purchased this DVD for my 3 year old but it doesn't seem to catch his attention just yet. He is still addicted to Shrek and Finding Nemo. I on the otherhand have enjoyed watching it.

i purchased this movie and another one for my five year old son. he really enjoyed this movie. i had never seen this one and was worried because the animation is different than the other movie. my son went crazy over this movie.

5 out of 5 stars Another Great One from Lion's Gate.......2006-01-10

It's been a long time since I've seen the TV show, but I can still fully remember the theme music and how fun it is. So when I found out that there was a new CGI-animated version of Inspector Gadget, I just had to take a look.

I wasn't disappointed. This is a fun, snappy film that stays largely true to the style of the TV series. Some fun updates are a more hip version of the theme song and Bernie Mac as the voice of the Gadget "G" Mobile. (Whose sharp, witty, funny commentary adds a lot.) I agree that Penny doesn't seem quite as smart as the TV show. The most annoying subplot in this movie involved her and a character named Loony, who wanted to give her tickets to a concert, which dragged out way too long (and popped up way too many times). But otherwise, this film was great.

Some of my favorite lines came from Chief Quimby in relation to the ridiculous, pompous, neurotic, self-absorbed mayor. At one point, the mayor asks some sort of stupid question about where something is and Quimby responds with a wonderfully humorous line that I won't spoil here.

Claw is, of course, the main villain and his cat is with him as well.

This being a Lion's Gate release, there's some wonderful special features. Tehre are several deleted scenes, most of them in storyboard film. There are also some bloopers, which have obviously been created just for laughs. There's a short Build Your Own Gadget game, which is just okay. There are also trailers and fully animated menus showing the scenes in the movie.

If you ever loved Inspector Gadget, or just wanna see a great DVD, then be sure to give this one a look.

4 out of 5 stars Wowzers! They Nearly Got It Right This Time!.......2005-09-11

Ah, good ol' Inspector Gadget. I have many fond memories of watching with laughter and excitement every Saturday morning as the good-natured, although often times misdirected, Inspector Gadget lumbered around some dangerous building or trap-infested jungle in search of clues that would solve the case-of-the-week. Often times his niece, Penny, and their dog, Brain, would pull some miraculous miracle in the nick of time that would save Uncle Gadget from his impeding doom. Other times, Gadget's typical "slip-up" would actually result in the foiling of Dr. Claw's dastardly deed-of-the-week. Either way, Inspector Gadget's clueless nature is what made the show so enjoyable. That is why when Disney announced they were making a live action movie based on the cartoon, I could hardly wait to see it in theaters.

Unfortunately, my memories of that movie are not nearly as fond as that of the cartoon, and that is why I never watched the sequel (although I hear it was equally as bad, if not worse). The movie lacked the charm of the cartoon, and it hardly seemed to be little more than loosely based off the show. That is why when I heard Inspector Gadget was getting yet another modern day facelift, this time through CGI, I found myself to be far more hesitant in picking up a copy. Surprisingly, my hesitation wasn't warranted.

Inspector Gadget's Biggest Caper Ever is by far, the closest thing to the original cartoon that has been released so far. Granted, there is probably enough in the movie to set it apart from the cartoon (such as the Gadget mobile being like the one in Disney's movie, where it talks and is an actual character) but, in my honest opinion, there is enough nods to the cartoon that will satisfy most fans of the original. Inspector Gadget is just as clueless and comical as in the original, and Brain is just as active and crucial to helping Gadget out of the crazy situations he gets himself in (again, unlike Disney's). Poor Chief Quimby gets blown up a couple of times from his self-destruct assignments, Dr. Claw is back to his ol' self with plans for world domination, and his MAD agents are just as useless, although amusing, as ever.

Really, the only major differences between this CGI movie and the cartoon is the Gadget mobile (although it's not nearly as bad as the one in Disney's movie, this one actually has some comical lines and cool stunts!), Penny's character (she doesn't seem nearly as smart or resourceful), and a couple new characters that didn't appear in the cartoon (such as the mayor), but I feel they add to the value of the movie. Another major difference is the original Gadget theme is nowhere to be found! That really disappointed me, as the new theme song doesn't sound nearly as good. It's ironic, the only thing the Disney movie got right was the theme song, and really, the only thing this movie gets wrong is the theme song!

Nonetheless, I was more than satisfied with this new Gadget adventure. I won't spoil the plot, but it's classic Inspector Gadget material, as is much of the world in which the story unfolds. The CGI, while nothing groundbreaking, flows nicely, and the dialogue is bound to bring about some laughter and fond memories. The DVD also comes with some nice bonus features, so it isn't barebones like some DVD's out there! The bonus features include:

Deleted Scenes
Bloopers
Build Your Own Gadget
Inspector's School Of Gadgetry
Trailer Gallery

I haven't checked out all of the bonus features yet, but so far, I'm not disappointed!

As for the bottom line, I can't say for certain every Gadget fan will love this new movie. All I can say for certain is that I enjoyed the movie, and that, in my opinion, it stayed fairly true to the cartoon in most respects. That is why I feel if you enjoyed the cartoon, you'll enjoy the movie, even if you're all grown up now. Heck, I was able to enjoy it even though I'm nineteen and haven't watched the show since I was about nine or so (it's never on anymore! Bring it back!), but hey, that's me. As for the rest of you, I would hope that you'll at least give the movie a chance and rent it... you might just find yourself pleasantly surprised!

5 out of 5 stars Very satisfied........2005-09-08

I was very satisfied with the product and it was received in a timely matter.

The evil Dr. Claw has thrown Santa down a manhole and hypnotized the elves into breaking the very toys they've just been making. It's a job for Inspector Gadget (voiced by Don Adams in his irrepressible Get Smart mode) with a big hand from his whip-smart niece Penny and her brainy dog. The trio heads up to the North Pole to rescue the big red guy, cheerfully butcher a Christmas song or two, and restore Yuletide order. Kids ages 3 and older will enjoy the hijinks as the bumbling inspector arrests the real Santa for impersonation and uses his jet propeller hat, spring legs, and other gadgets to great effect in Santa's workshop. This 23-minute video won't teach the kids their ABCs, but it's a lot of fun and there's something endearing about Penny's efforts to help her clueless uncle. --Kimberly Heinrichs

3 out of 5 stars Gadget makes it to DVD again........2006-03-03

This is an unusual DVD. It has the 1992 "Inspector Gadget Saves Christmas" special, as well as three extra episodes from 1983. The special is pretty neat, and the animation is a bit similar to the old series, but with newer music, as well as the original voice cast, too! The three episodes are neat, especially "So It Is Written." Actually, I would've preferred some more winter-themed episodes instead of the other three episodes here, such as "Gone Went the Wind" or "The Coo-Coo Clock Caper." However, like "The Gadget Files" and "The Original Series" DVD set from Shout! Factory, this one has its faults...

PROS
Three good episodes, with a fancy Christmas episode to go with it.

CONS
The lack of special features, and the following edits...

EDITS
The title of each episode is electronically added at the start of the episodes. When these cartoons originally aired, they had no episode titles!
The public service announcements at the end of the 1983 episodes were cut-and-pasted; they were taken out of the episodes and used as special features. This was highly unnecessary.
On the old episodes, the original DiC closing featuring Inspector Gadget dotting the "i" in the logo was cut. It was replaced with the "Incredible World of DiC" logo. The old LBS logo is also gone, while the Shout Factory DVD set keeps the LBS logo. The special also has the Kid in Bed plastered with the new DiC logo. This was completely ridiculous.

Overall, if you remember the "Inspector Gadget Saves Christmas" special, or if you just want to see the show again, this is the DVD for you.

4 out of 5 stars Seven Years Later, Gadget Is Back...To Save Christmas!.......2004-12-02

Seven years after the original series ceased its original run, "Inspector Gadget Saves Christmas" was released as a prime-time special in December 1992.

Gadget is back (and still voiced by Don Adams), and this time, he has to rescue Santa and his hypnotized elves from his old adversary, Dr. Claw. It's up to Gadget, with some help from his niece Penny and loyal dog Brain, to put a stop to his plot to give Santa a bad name.

Most revival series, specials and movies aren't usually up to par, but this one is actually pretty good. Gadget fans will appreciate the similarites between this special and the original series, as opposed to the live-action movie with Matthew Broderick.

Pros:
*Gadget is still voiced by Don Adams.
*Most of the reoccuring gags are still used such as the exploding message, lines such as "Chief, is that you? ...you're where?" Also, Gadget still uses most of his original gadgets: gadget handcuffs, gadget copter, gadget legs, and so on.
*Penny and Brain are still a significant part of the episode.
*Three additional episodes from the series are included with the special: "The Weather in Tibet", "So It Is Written" and "Birds of a Feather"

Cons:
*Unlike the original series, the music for the special was not by Haim Saban & Shuki Levy, but the music is still good nonetheless. (Although there is really nothing that can compare with the original score of the show.) Naturally, the three extra episodes' music are by Saban/Levy so that should be some consolation.
*This Christmas special was a bit more light-hearted than the original series, but it doesn't seem to take away from the charm of the show.

Overall, any Gadget fan would enjoy this. Hopefully, DiC will continue to release additional episodes of the original series.

2 out of 5 stars Not like the old TV series.......2001-11-30

I had seen Inspector Gadget Saves Christmas and I was rather embarassed by it. For one thing, the animation here seems like it was targeted for really small kids. The old animated series was done in the Japanese anime style (fact is, all the animation was made in Japan). With Inspector Gadget Saves Christmas, it looks like all the animation was made right here in America and it comes across as being surprisingly childish, while the original series was anything but childish. I guess the point here was they were trying to target this version of Inspector Gadget to the same kids who watch Barney, totally forgetting that there were plenty of people at that time (1992) who remembered the original series (simply because Nickelodeon was airing it on regular basis at that time, and still did until recently, now ABC Family, formerly Fox Family airs it). While Dr. Claw still sounds like his old self and you still don't see his face, and Penny and Brain is still doing Gadget's real work, I find this really dumbed down and really lacks the charm and appeal of the original series. To me I think this is a disgrace to the Inspector Gadget name, but I can be only thankful it's not quite as bad as the non-animated Disney made in 1999.

When the inept inspector accidentally thwarts a bank robbery by Dr. Claw's minions, the evil Claw devises a revenge scheme that puts the Gadgetmobile in the shop and Gadget out of a job. During this 73-minute animated feature, things go from bad to worse for Gadget when he abandons his beloved car for a more sophisticated model in the hopes of better competing with Metro City's new superhero Devon Debonair, who's stealing all his good works and publicity. Then Debonair buys Gadget's cast-off, re-dubs it the "Debonairmobile," and provides him with fancy parking quarters and a personal buffer. Gadget may be too dim to figure out the connection to Claw, but thank goodness his niece Penny can think for both of them. While there's an underlying lesson in loyalty, the inspector's real forte is goofy fun. (Ages 3 to 12) --Kimberly Heinrichs

2 out of 5 stars Utterly plot-less and only slightly entertaining.......2005-10-08

I got this DVD well over 2 years ago and only decided to watch it yesterday. I don't know why it took me so long as I do like the Inspector Gadget show and even the new Gadget and the Gadgetinis. While it may have a bright color pallet and all the technical sophistication of a modern animated movie, there are some old things missing that bog this Gadget right down the toilet.

First of all the classic Inspector Gadget theme song and music is completely absent. The composer tries to compromise by doing a score that sounds similar but it's still just no good enough. The Gadget-mobile is now a talking car, not a car that can turn into a van. Plus it looks a lot cuter and rounder instead of being plain cool. Penny no longer has her computer book and she and Brain hardly make an appearance at all.

The plot is non-existent. There's something about a transformation formula and Doctor Claw using for some never revealed evil but that's all I got. What the deal was with the short/giant Italian guy I will never know. It had nothing to do with anything.

And if the title is anything to go by, his last case is wrapped up in no way whatsoever. And he stays on the force so why it's called 'last case' is a mystery also.

I wasn't impressed at all. This is an affront to a great animated show that is strangely absent on DVD, but don't let that prompt you into buying whatever Inspector Gadget DVDs you can. I sold this mere seconds after finally watching it. No kid will like or appreciate this and no fan of the old show with tolerate it.

1 out of 5 stars Even Penny and Brain Couldn't Save Uncle Gadget This Time.......2005-01-26

Inspector Gadget was probably my all-time favorite 80's cartoon. I enjoyed both the first and second seasons of the series as well as 1992's Christmas special "Inspector Gadget Saves Christmas". Some Gadget fans are quick to criticize the second season (1985) of the show, but they need to compare it to DiC's 2002 release of "Inspector Gadget's Last Case: Claw's Revenge" for then, they will find the second season to be absolute gold.

Being a Gadget fan, I couldn't resist the opportunity to see the animated Inspector Gadget in something that wasn't Gadget Boy-related. I purchased the film, and I swore to myself that I'd be objective; I knew that sometimes artistic liberties would be taken from the original series. I was not even prepared for what I was about to watch.

There was barely a shred of the original show still intact.

Here is a short list of just some of the cons for this movie:

*The humor is non-existant from the original series.

*Penny and Brain (originally having a nearly equal part in the series as Gadget) are missing from the action for fifteen to twenty minute intervals.

*The original music by Saban & Levy is not there, and the score that exists is subpar. (Understood that Saban has his own production company now, but at least "Inspector Gadget Saves Christmas" had good music, even without Saban.)

*Don't expect to see any of Gadget's gadgets which made the show so endearing, such as gadget-copter, gadget-brella, gadget-mallot,gadget-coat (which actually was used but it was not even called the same thing), as well as his standard other hat and hand gadgets. In this movie, his gadget legs were telescopic instead of springs. That kind of stuff annoys true fans of the show, and simply aren't necessary to change.

*The gadgetmobile from the original series is now a fast-talking, supposedly "hip" convertible. All the fans from the original series enjoyed the gadgetmobile transforming into the gadget van and vice versa.

*Chief Quimby is now very short-tempered and even mean to Gadget. He was always grumpy in the original series, but this pushes the situation a bit much.

*Penny no longer has a computer book.

Are there any positives to this movie? Ok, here goes...

*Maurice LaMarche does a good job of taking over for the great Don Adams as Inspector Gadget.

*In one scene, Chief Quimby alludes to an actual villain from the cartoon series: the Great Wambini (classic "Gadget" villain from the second season, voiced by Louis Nye).

Looking for more redeeming factors for this movie? Well, you're out of luck. Life is about making choices and living by those choices. Most situations in life have a purpose even if it is to teach a lesson. The lesson learned here: keep to the original formula! "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." True Gadget fans should steer clear from this movie; you will surely be disappointed.

Hopefully, DiC will continue to release more of the original series on DVD. So far, Volume 1 of "The Gadget Files" has been released as well as "Inspector Gadget Saves Christmas". As a true Gadget fan, lover of 80's animation and many of DiC's programs, I urge you the viewer to purchase these two DVD's which are excellent and sure to bring back good memories.

4 out of 5 stars The Original Gadget!.......2006-03-03

This Inspector Gadget DVD is pretty cool. It has the first five episodes, complete with the pilot with Gadget's mustache! Here are my pros and cons for it...

    PROS
The original episodes are there, of course.
There is the interview with the show's creator.
The pilot has its original dialogue (since reruns of this episode had badly-edited-in new voiceovers explaining Gadget's mustache was a disguise.)

    CONS
    Just five episodes only :P
    The following edits...

    EDITS
The title of each episode is electronically added at the start of the episodes. When these cartoons originally aired, they had no episode titles!
The public service announcements at the end of each episode were cut-and-pasted; they were taken out of the episodes and used as special features. This was a bit unnecessary.
The original DiC logo featuring Inspector Gadget dotting the "i" was cut. It was replaced with the 1990 Kid in Bed logo (which is partially what the company is well-known for), which is strange since the company usually uses the "Incredible World of DiC" to replace older DiC logos. However, the original late-70s LBS logo is intact.

However, you gotta get your Gadget, and this DVD is a fine way. Definitely recommended for those who haven't seen the show in a long time or want to remember the dearly-departed Don Adams.

5 out of 5 stars Kids Love It!.......2005-10-18

Couldn't ask for a better video for the price! My 4 kids have fallen in love with Inspector Gadget. Current programming on TV has to be screened so heavily to determine its suitability for kids; it's great to see a good show that's just plain fun. The transfer to DVD is handled well. The first episode with Inspector Gadget with a mustache is hilarious. The others are well-chosen, and my children are begging to watch the DVD all the time.

4 out of 5 stars Back to the Past.......2005-08-11

Inspector Gadget was one of my favorite cartoons as a kid, and when I discovered episodes coming out on DVD, I had to pick it up. Before putting the DVD into the player, I reminded myself that some shows watched as a kid lose their fun twenty years later. I went in with this reservation, and watched it drop as I remembered all the fond memories of Penny, Brain, and of course Inspector Gadget.

On the DVD, I found the first five episodes of the show, and a nice little handful of special features. The first episode, "Winter Olympics" contains the rare Gadget moustache, and also a different voice for Penny, which didn't fit right. The next four episodes, "Monster Lake", "Down On The Farm", "Gadget At The Circus", and "The Amazon" are all typical Gadget fun.

The special features include an interview with Andy Heyward, one of the creators of Inspector Gadget. The interview gives some interesting insights into the making of Gadget, and answers several rumors that circulated around the show, such as are Dr. Claw and the good Inspector related? All the original public service announcements are included, and so are a bunch of sneak peeks into other shows from years ago coming onto DVD.

All in all, The Gadget Files, Volume 1 is a fun addition to any avid 80's cartooner, and fun for kids just being introduced to Inspector Gadget. I only wished there could have been more episodes packed onto this disc, but that is what Volume 2 is for!

    4 out of 5 stars Unbiased Review-Good DVD.......2005-04-18

I used to love watching Penny, Brain, the Inspector, and co. when I was younger so adding this DVD to my collection was a no-brainer. I only wish that UAV had put the episodes in order. I'm not really sure why a company would release a series and not have them in order...oh well. With all that being said, still a great DVD for a great price.
