Carl Reiner, who paired with Steve Martin in The Jerk, takes another rewarding gamble in Sibling Rivalry, matching comic actress Kirstie Alley with a screwball tale of mistaken identities, three sets of siblings, and a pesky corpse. Alley plays a neglected wife encouraged by her sister (Jami Gertz) to have a fling; when she does precisely that with a handsome stranger (Sam Elliott), he not only dies in bed but turns out to be a long-lost brother-in-law. Further complicating matters is a salesman (Bill Pullman) who thinks he inadvertently killed Elliott's character, plus a lot of doctor jokes (Carrie Fisher plays a bullying gynecologist married to a protologist) and a deadpan cop (Ed O'Neill). The screenplay's comic complications take a little too long to reach critical mass, but when they do, Reiner masterfully controls the essential screwball timing and Alley, Pullman, Gertz, and screen veterans John Randolph and Frances Sternhagen thoroughly deliver. --Tom Keogh

Description
Kirstie Alley ( Cheers ) knocks 'em deadliterallyand then becomes hysterically hysterical in this laugh-out-loud funny comedy which co-stars Bill Pullman (Independence Day), Carrie Fisher (When Harry Met Sally), Jami Gertz ( Ally McBeal ), Scott Bakula ( Enterprise ), Sam Elliott (Fatal Beauty) and Ed O'Neill ( Married With Children )! All Marjorie (Alley) ever wanted was to become a writer: like Sylvia Plath...only happy. But she put her dream aside to marry a doctor (Bakula)...before discovering that he has no bedside manner! Unhappy, unfulfilled and decidedly unsatisfied, she attempts to find bliss in a hotel room with a handsome stranger. But when the man she checks in with checks out for goodleaving behind only a smiling corpse and a shocking identity Marjorie will have to cover up the body and the affair...or she may as well write off the rest ofher life!
Customer Reviews:
Best movie pick up line ever.......2007-01-27
Although Sam Elliott's appearance is brief, he has just enough time to deliver the best movie pick-up line ever......"You dented your cheese" Other one-liners bring a couple of good belly laughs and the all-star cast is impressive. This is a great little romantic comedy.
One of my favorites of all times; a good laugh.......2006-08-07
This is the beginning carrer of one of the funniest ladies I know. I have seen this movie too many times to tell but it's worth the laugh I get every time.
Awful except for one scene.......2006-01-24
I saw this film with preview passes when it was first released. The movie was awful--farfetched dumb plot, nasty characters. The saving grace was a scene between Kirstie Allie and Scott Bakula in which they had an all-out couple's fight. The scene was so realistic and authentic I felt like I'd been transported into another (better) movie. It did make me realise what a good actor Bakula could be. But, sorry to say, the scene was not worth sitting through the whole movie.
Hillarious !.......2005-05-16
This movie is SO funny I've seen it three times and now must buy it so I can continue to enjoy it.
Pretty Darn Funny.......2004-08-30
"It must have made an impact!" (Marjorie Turner explaining her affair to her husband.)
Kirstie Alley plays Marjorie Turner, who is married, somewhat unhappily, to Harry Turner (Scott Bakula), a physician in a family of physicians. She is very much the repressed housewife, running the household while hubby is more interested in his work than her.
Her wacky sister, Jeanine (Jami Gertz), suggests an affair (is this ever a good idea in films?). Marjorie is susceptible, and meets a handsome older man in the grocery store. They have a one-time only affair, and the movie is set in motion.
Directed by Carl Reiner, the movie is funny, enjoyable, and well-acted. Alley gives one of her better efforts here, alternately playing a frazzled housewife, a contrite adulteress, a co-conspirator, an advice-giver and a fabricator of ever-increasingly tall tales. Bill Pullman plays Nicholas Meany, an akward, failed salesman, who's desperate for one last chance. He just picks the wrong hotel room to ply his wares.
Bakula isn't on screen much, and given his character of an up-tight, nerdy gastroenterologist, he doesn't have a chance to display much range. Jamie Gertz does a good job playing the ditzy sis, and Ed O'Neill does equally as well as the law enforcement half of the Meany brothers.
Recommended. An all-around above-average effort.

Are we in love yet?.......2005-08-05
Wow today I finally received the second volumn of this great series. It first started off with Miina and Karen going to maiku's school and now they just need to fit in with the rest of society. After arriving to their new school they seemed to notice some of the rumors going around about maiku being gay with Shimazaki. Is this true? If you watch this dvd you will learn the truth about this event. More importantly Miina and Karen just realized how they feel for maiku and I guess they just can't let anyone else have him, but themselves. They all decide to take a vacation and yet they just can't seem to get away from the rest of the group. This dvd plays an important role in this anime so I recommend this movie to anyone who enjoyed volumn 1 and even though it is a short series, I seem to rather enjoy these kinds of movies.
A pleasant suprise after the painful original.......2005-01-14
It took a load of convincing for me to watch Onegai Twins, being it the spin-off of one of my most loathed anime shows, Onegai Teacher. But to my surprise and pleasure Twins has almost nothing to do with the original, and was a refreshing experience.
Twins is a balanced mix of romance and comedy. Most often there will be too much of one or the other - especially romance - and the sappiness will ruin the show. But in this case I was very pleased with the way it was presented.
You won't find the usual action/peril overkill that reside in most series, this one is for those times when you're not thirsting for violence and want to see something a little bit more sensible. I'm glad I put aside my presumptions about Twins and gave it a try.

Description
Oasis: Sibling Rivalry charts their rise out of Manchester to stadium arenas all over the world. It covers the amazing story of Oasis, and was filmed in their home city of Manchester and in London. It includes previously unseen film footage of the band and exclusive in-depth interviews with those who worked closely with Oasis during their career. This is their story the sex, the drugs and a generous helping of Rock N Roll! This is the first unauthorised DVD biography of Oasis.
Customer Reviews:
Wicked DVD on Oasis.......2005-11-29
Goes back to where they grew up, talking to their mates and other musicians from the Manchester scene (including Clint Boon from the Inspiral Carpets and Paulo Hewitt), discussing the story of how they met, and their opinions of the band. There is loads of footage of their home turf, and although there's no music, there are plenty of photos and interviews. There's a quiz at the end of the DVD and I really enjoyed doing it!
Informative But Boring.......2005-07-10
I am a huge Oasis fan and look to get my hands on anything that pertains to the band. I bought Sibling Rivalry thinking I would probably get to see some old or obscure interviews and performances of the band outlined by their story. Unfortunatley, that is not the case. There is very little input from Oasis. Most of what you will see of them are still shot pictures and very rarely some talking (I would say less than 5 minutes). There is also no music by the band. There is music, but it is terrible and sounds like a generic version of Oasis.
Their story is told by people that new them during their rise to stardom and beyond. While most the information given is interesting and accurate, it is presented in such a boring fashion that it is difficult to watch. It is basically people that you have never heard of in stationary locations giving their memories of the band. It isn't so bad at first, but after a while becomes brutal to maintian concentration.
I would only recommend this dvd to the hardest of the hardcore fans. Right now, however, I would personally recommend buying the Live Forever dvd as you will get much more input from the band and find it very interesting and entertaining. Let's just hope Vh1 does a Behind The Music special.
