INCREDIBLE SWORD FIGHTING FILM !!.......2007-07-03

The Weinstein Company has to be commended for releasing "The One-Armed Swordsman" on DVD.The video and audio restoration that went into this release is truly amazing.The film is presented in it's 2.35:1 Widescreen format and enhanced for 16x9 televisions.This is without a doubt the best version of "The One-Armed Swordsman" I've ever seen.The video transfer is just spectacular and the colors are sharp and vibrant.The sound is clean and crisp albeit in mono.The sound options include original Mandarin or English dubbed version and choice of Subtitles.The special features I found most interesting were the Interview with Jimmy Wang Yu and the Stills Gallery and Trailer Gallery.Sadly the commentary of Quentin Tarantino listed on the rear cover under the special features section of the DVD is missing.Martial Arts fans will be amazed by the incredible quality of this release and the non-stop blood filled action.

OK if you have never seen this movie and are interested in classic kung-fu movies, by all means get this release, the quality is great. My complaint is that the Weinstein company lied about the special features. I already owned a great region 3 copy of this film, and was surprised to see that the new American release had commentary by Quentin Tarantino, which is stated on the package. I know that he is a big Shaw bros fan and was interested in hearing his insight on the film. I could care less about the film scholars opinions as they don't really state anything a fan wouldn't already know. Well the DVD does NOT have commentary by him, and my purchase was completely pointless. This review is to mainly to warn others out-there like myself who are huge fans that might also be considering purchasing this version for that reason.

I thought this movie was funny and just as good as the first Miss Congeniality. I love the first, I watch it over and over again. It's such a good movie. The second is just as good, with good actors and a funny storyline. Gracie Hart has become the new face of the FBI and she's suddenly into clothes and even hires a professional stylist and hair and makeup people to take care of her. She goes a little overboard, though, until reality gives her a wakeup call and she finds out that her good friends Cheryl and Stan are captured and she wants to save them. She goes to Las Vegas with another tough female agent named Sam (played by Regina King) and she tries to track down who captured them and where they are being held. She and Sam even go undercover as drag queens at a club in Las Vegas just in order to find out where they are. Gracie and Sam don't get along at first, the both fight and don't like each other. But at the end they actually become good friends. It's a funny movie, Sandra Bullock is such a cool person because she doesn't mind look silly. She dresses up as an old lady at an old folks home, she pretends to have cramps, and she wears silly outfits and is really funny. Regina Kind was good and so was Heather Burns, who I loved in the first movie. It has a great message, too, about being yourself and not caring what other people think of you. In the end Gracie goes back to being a field agent and fighting crime and she looks like herself again. She no longer is interested in fashion and makeup. Gracie also encourages a young girl to be herself, too. She goes to the girl's school because the girl wrote a report about her and speaks in front of the class. Gracie Hart's a good role model for young girls. And so is Sandra Bullock, in real life. Overall, I really loved this movie. I'll buy it and add it to my collection.

I can't believe Sandra Bullock was the main star in a movie I consider good (usually she annoys me the way she tends to mumble nonsense on and on and on) but her role in Miss Congeniality 2 was quite funny, and actually had a bit of seriousness implemented in the storyline. I especially liked that one female cop who took absolutely NO crap from anyone, including Sandra's character. Sandra and this cop had to work together as part of a team. Overall, a fair amount of humor and a surprising amount of action makes Miss Congeniality 2 really good.

I just love this girl. This is a must have for fans of Sandra Bullock. Is it as great as the first...no but she still into her antics and full of fun. This is just one of those movies you put in and sit back and just wait on her to make you laugh and shake your head. A fun to have movie.

Agent Gracie Hart is back again only this time she's not meant to do any undercover operations after her cover was blown by an adoring fan. So, with her reputation as an agent on the down and her fame on the up, Gracie is set up as a representative of the U.S police, that's all very well until her friend, and last years Miss America, is kiddnapped along with the pagent host.

Against all odds, and rules, Hart goes off on an other police operation.

This is a hilariously well acted film, matching well up to the standards set by it's predecessor.

Don't listen to these people who say it's bad, it's a funny, slightly tacky, fun film to watch with your friends.

Perhaps Stripes and Caddyshack screenwriter Harold Ramis and Commando director Mark Lester were not an ideal collaborative team. But while this 1986 misfit comedy is something of a misfire, SCTV fans can take heart in watching John Candy and Eugene Levy triumph over weak material as mismatched security guards who stumble upon mob corruption. Candy, in particular, does wonders with a role that in lesser hands would have been a mere "fatty falls down" stereotype. He plays a cynical disgraced cop who takes Levy's cowardly former lawyer under his wing ("Stick with me, I'll keep you out of trouble," he reassures him). Like Ramis's character in Stripes, Levy rises to the occasion under fire, and even gets the girl--Meg Ryan in early ingénue mode, trying out the fetching grins and ingratiating smiles that would make her America's sweetheart three years later in When Harry Met Sally. --Donald Liebenson

This film follows John Candy, a police officer who gets fired for a crime he did not commit, and Eugene Levy, a poor excuse for a lawyer through private security guard school and into the new career of Night Watchmen. Little did they know that they would stumble across a conspiracy which they are the only ones poised to unveil. Bolstered in Cast by Meg Ryan, this film has many funny parts that do get you chuckling pretty hard. Along the lines of the Great Outdoors, this film is worth adding to a good comedy collection.

The Films that restarted William Shatner's Career.......2007-04-20

Sandra Bullock's Grace Hart is one of the best character's she ever created. This semi tough FBI agent with a heart of gold is very well expressed in these both Miss Congeniality films.

William Shatner is rediscovered and restarted in these films as the had been (Bert Parks like) MC . He acts the straight man for the humor around him and it works.

In the first film, Hart is sent in to the Miss USA beauty contest to protect the other gitl's and save the day. Benjamin Bratt plays her FBI partner. Micheal Caine is the groomer who makes her from FBI agent to Beauty Queen> Candice Bergan is the show organizer. (Boston Legal fans note, this film was FIRST!)

The second film, Grace who has become an FBI press darling, because everyone knows her from the USA contest and she can not go undercover. She has written a book and goes on press tours showcasing the NEW FBI. She is saddled with a partner who does not like her and comedy tensions ensue. Miss USA and the show's MC is kidnapped and Grace is on the case

Dont expect these films to be like the POLICE ACADEMY films, but dont expect to be great Oscar film making either...its good set of films to enjoy for just the laughes

This is a small card of only 7 fights. It is notable for the debut of Bob Sapp, a Rampage slam, and the debut of Noguiera's brother. I didn't like the Silva/Mirko fight with the special rules. I felt it was a let down. Sapp, Rampage and Nog are all fed Japanese cans, so there is really no competativeness to the fights. Arona and Henderson was more about groundwork and not really exciting for me. The same with the Sperry/Rua fight. The two Japanese cans fighting just sucked. There are way better pride cards to pick up over this. For completionists only.

Pride Fighting Championships 20: Armed and Ready.......2006-09-16

The DVD begins with Bas Rutton and Steven Quadros doing a Men-In-Black type skit. They introduce the fights on the card this way.

Bob Sapp v. Norihishi Yamamoto:
This is Bob Sapp's MMA and Pride debut. He is cornered by Maurice Smith and Randy Couture, so his training is not in question. This one ends in only a few minutes.

Quinton "Rampage" Jackson v. Masaaki Satake:
Jackson, as you probably know, has the best slams in Pride, bar none. He gets another great one in this fight and follows-up with knees to a downed Masaaki. Masaaki has to work diligently simply to achieve full guard on the bottom. This is a one-sided fight that ends in exciting fashion. As a bonus on this DVD, you can listen to Rampage provide his own commentary on the fight, which is pretty funny.

Antonio Rogerio Nogueira v. Yusuke Imamura:
This is Nogueira's Pride debut. He is the twin brother of the current Pride heavyweight champion, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira. The talk is that he is just as good as his brother... If this fight is any indicator, then he just might be.

Dan Henderson v. Ricardo Arona:
I was pretty excited to see this one. Both fighters are explosive. We get an exciting back-and-forth in this fight, until one of them is able to get an edge in the 3rd. This fight goes to a close decision.

Murilo Ninja Rua v. Mario Sperry:
Two great Brazilians from separate teams will do battle. They trade in mid-ring and it is Rua who bests Sperry. Rua is all over Sperry early on, but Sperry reverses everything with a takedown. This is a very close, very good fight, testing the mettle of both warriors. Awesome fight!

Alexander Otsuka v. Sanae Kikuta:
I don't really know too much about either of these fighters. The match is fairly boring- a very slow-paced ground game. One of the fighters isn't really even competitive.

MAIN EVENT
Wanderlei Silva v. Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic:
The rules of Pride Fighting are temporarily put on hold, as these two amazing fighters meet and compete under the rules of K-1, from which Cro Cop comes. Cro Cop lands a huge body kick, making an early statement, but Silva surprises everyone with his performance at this event. Everyobe figured that if Sakuraba could drop Silva, then Cro Cop would surely annihilate... The fight is very tense, as either man can potentially end it at any second. This makes for an awesome atmosphere around the fight. I would like to go more indepth, but you've simply got to see this one. There are no judges in this fight, so if it goes the distance, it will be ruled a draw. It's a part of MMA history, still very much relevant in Pride right now, especially in light of the recent tournament.

Wanderlei vs Cro Cop.......2006-09-03

This event has some very exciting bouts on the card. The highlight is of course the main event between Wanderlei Silva and Mirko Cro Cop. This intense battle is followed after one of the most intriguing staredowns in all of MMA. Plus you get to see two other exciting bouts between Henderson/Arona and Ninja/Sperry. Also, includes the debuts of Antonio Rogerio Nogueira and the animal known as Bob Sapp. Lets not forget about the always exciting Quinton "Rampage" Jackson, who goes on a rampage as well.

The Pride fighters were certaintly "Armed and Ready" and the event is just that. Highly recommended.

CroCop/Silva.......2006-08-17

This DVD has some extremely exciting fights... the biggest being the main event. Once again, this is a moment in MMA history that is not only worth seeing, but worth having in your collection. This fight not only looks great on paper, but delivers in spades. The staredown between these two truly sets the stage for the epic battle. It truly is a must own for this fight alone... but like I already said, there are several other phenomenal fights on the card as well.

Highly recommended!

Awesome Show.......2006-07-10

This is an awesome MMA event. Pride proves its the best event in the world yet again. Cro Cop vs Silva is a fight that every MMA fans should see.

when it IS a bootleg. This is a copy stolen from the HK IVL DVD of the same name. Be sure to order the HK DVD or wait for the legit release from the Wienstien company.

...but not by much. Semi-letterbox (still missing LOTS on the sides) with mix of English (with music from the US version) & German (opening/closing credits-music in opening matches Chinese version) with a few lines shifting to German on soundtrack (evidently for scenes not in the US release). Picture varies from spotty to VERY scratchy (reel changes?). If you MUST have a dubbed version this is at least better than the old VHS mastered blurathon that is now OP. Look for a Thai version of the Celestial Pictures remaster (R0 tho' it claims to be R3) or get youself an allregion player & get the legit version!

More enlightening historical data to further show you how strong black people are. Two wars is definitely what these brothers fought because they had to fight White america in addition to the enemy across the ocean. This documentary features some of the surviving tuskegee airmen and they get to tell their story in their own words. To hear the history actually from the person who experienced it makes the story even more powerful. This is a great documentary and is highly recommended!!!!!!

The Tuskegee Airman - They Fought Two Wars - PBS, 60 min. (for a film of this historical event check out Laurence Fishburne's "The Tuskegee Airmen"

This documentary is a legacy to the men who fought two wars in WWII, the enemy abroad and racism at home. This documentary (along with others) is an important part to complementing the standard history books on American WWII era.

The Army had allowed the negros to try out for this flight program, only to see if the negro man was capable, mentally and physically, to make it thru pilot training. These were the elite of the African American community of those days, college educated negros. Negro is the term used during that era, and used in this review, only for historical purposes.

Starts off with the remaining living veterans aboard a bus going back to Tuskegee, Alabama - a veterans reunion. With scenes overlapping with recreated footage, one learns from the veterans what it was like to be a negro in pre-WWII America ("the white press did not publish anything favorable of the negros. The negros got their news and understood white America thru the black press"). The Intro. also mentions Bessy Coleman, as the first woman black pilot.

The vision the young educated negro cadets, to change their society thru their joined efforts to fight for their country and prove to white America that the negro man can fly and do a great job at that, is quite contagious. I could not, as a white Protestant, but just root for them and be glad that they proved their 1940 society, wrong.

It is so weird and ironic to learn, that today Tuskegee is a known town in Alabama, primarily because of the Tuskegee Airmen and the black Institute campus.

If you want to learn the real story, accurately, watch the PBS DVD (it is really well made). If you just want to watch a great film about a great story and with a plot that conveys the segregation and racism of the times (but without all the details being historically accurate), then watch the film by Laurence Fishburne. The PBS edition, also talks about what happened to the airmen after WWII, and one of the things mentioned is Truman's the bill for desegregation of the army.

The Tuskegee pilots of the 232 became known as the best in the business. Also, as "the Red Tails."

The message of this documentary is simply: "It's their country, too!"

This is a must see for all Americans. The story of these heros, and the ground that they broke for African Americans is the best you will see. The film that came out several years ago is a travesty to the honor that is due to these brave Americans. Nothing in this PBS documentary cheapens their accomplishments and their dignity. This is the best of educational TV productions, which is why PBS excells in this and others do not. The narration by Ossie Davis is done with the quality that one would expect from a distinquished American who along with his wife long fought for the rights of African Americans. These airmen loved this country. The young African American men that fly over the skies of Iraq for freedom for that nation can be proud of those Americans who made it possible for them.

Profile in Moral and Physical Courage.......2005-05-25

The stories of the 99th and the 332nd, the Tuskegee Airmen, are ones that should be heard by all Americans. As the subtitle states, they did fight two wars. They fought against the Nazis and they fought the civil rights war here at home.

This is a well done documentary that presents the story of the Tuskegee Airmen. Topics examined include the prewar state of affairs of black servicemen, their training in Tuskegee, Alabama, their air campaigns in North Africa and Europe and their less than triumphant return home after the war. At each step of the way, they had to fight individual and institutional racism and they did so in the best possible manner. They fought bigotry with sheer excellence. They remain the only fighter group never to have lost one of the bombers they were charged with protecting to enemy fire.

Participating in this documentary are some of the original airmen and their poignant recolections and anecdotes bring a very human face to go with their legendary exploits. These people include both pilots and the aircrews who kept them in the air. Ossie Davis provides narration and does a commendable job.

This documentary should be of interest to people interested in military history. It should also appeal to those concerned with the civil rights struggle. More than either of these, it should appeal to anyone who wants to see a true profile in courage.
