Was it something in the water? In the late 1980s, Hollywood came up with no fewer than three different versions of the same story: A child's mind winds up in an adult's body and (usually) vice versa. In fact, that was the name of one of them, Vice Versa. The other one was Big. This one, which starred Dudley Moore and Kirk Cameron, was perhaps the weakest of the group, with Moore as a heart surgeon and Cameron as his goofy kid; they change places and must cope with each other's problems for a day. But Cameron isn't much of an actor and Moore can't stop mugging long enough to show us that he's playing a teen in an adult body. --Marshall Fine

Description
Dominic Milne (Robson Green) is engaged to Dee Stanton (Jemma Redgrave) whose former husband is a serial killer serving a life sentence for murdering young women. They are certain her 15 year old son will add to their married happiness until a girl in his class is found strangled. Is this a case of like father, like son? It's a sizzling British Mystery Thriller with a plot that twists and turns as it moves towards its startling and unexpected climax.

"Do you ever feel like you don't fit?".......2007-02-17
In spite of the fact that the drama "Like Father Like Son" is flawed, this British made-for-television film is so well done, the result is gripping. When the film begins, life for Dee Stanton (Jemma Redgrave) looks good. Her legal career is just about to take off, and she has a good relationship with widower Dominic Milne (Robson Green) who also happens to be her son Jamie's (Somerset Prew) teacher. But there are some nasty problems just underneath the surface. Jamie sees Dominic as an intruder in his relationship with his mother, and then he discovers that the story he's been told that his father is dead, is a complete lie. In reality, his father is infamous serial killer Paul Barker (Philip Davis) who's in prison for murdering 4 young girls.
Jamie discovers the truth about his father at a crucial point in his life. Attracted to young, blonde, popular Morag Tait (Georgia Moffet) at school, he's begun following her around. Known at school as "weirdo", he's the object of her derision. Rejected by Morag, picked on by school bullies, and discovering that the story that his father is a dead Gulf War hero is a myth, Jamie turns to his deranged incarcerated father. It doesn't help that the boy is at his weakest point emotionally--or that they share some common interests. And when Morag turns up dead, Jamie is the prime suspect.
As the plot thickens, morality becomes clouded by emotion and divided loyalties. Dee's plight is particularly difficult. On one hand, she loves her son, but when the police investigation points to Jamie, she's also haunted by the thought that he is, perhaps, a "chip off the old block." The scenes when she visits Jamie's father are excruciatingly painful as she is forced to relive the humiliations and the scattered blame from her past. Can anyone ever truly forget such experiences? The film has its weak points--the scenes in the classroom when Morag confronts Dominic and argues about Desdemona's death ("Othello") are a bit far-fetched, and the solution to the crime is a bit unrealistic. But that said, the film, directed by Nicholas Laughland, is above average entertainment thanks mainly to the great performances from a solid cast--displacedhuman

NOT THE BEST SWITCH COMEDIES BUT STILL ENTERTAINING.......2007-03-26
This premise has been used so many times it's a wonder any of these films could be worth watching. Like all of these switch comedies, they work mostly because of the stars doing what they can with the weak material. It is a funny movie, but it has been done better. Vice Versa may have come out after this, but I think it is much funnier. Girls who have a crush on "Kirk" probably think this is the best switch comedy, but for the rest of us, it's just OK. ;-b

how true and right they are...in this classic film which came BEFORE! Vice Versa, might i add...combined hilarity, humility and most of all hijinks! dudley moore and kirk cameron team up with the help of the acting chops of one sean astin, who might i say has a resume that dreams are made of...(toy soldiers, white water summer, goonies, and encino man) to play out this classic role reversal comedy. i personally own this and vice versa but only because im such a huge judge reinhold fan...however if u are looking for stellar acting, a great plot and something WIHTOUT any of fred savages little flubs here or there then this is the movie for u, your children and your childrens children.
Great film!.......2005-03-12
Dr. Jack Hammond(the late Dudley Moore) is a hospital worker who ends up,surgically, switching personalities with his high school son(Kirk Cameron). Now,Jack is in high school and his kid is working in the hospital. How hilarious is that? At the time of filming,Cameron was the star of the ABC sitcom Growing Pains and a teen idol as well. Cameron didn't last very long in Hollywood. I guess his fans loved him much better on GP.
It Has Its Charm. .......2005-01-23
Alright. Granted, this is not an over the boards smash hit. But in all honesty, this is better and funnier than a lot of overrated so called comedies out there today. If you have found your way to this webpage, you probably already know the basic story. Cameron and Moore (son and father) through an accident of Astin end up in each other's bodies. (I will grant that this seems overly simplistic.) But there is something humorous about seeing the mature and responsible heart surgeon being acted by Cameron, and the hormone driven, and somewhat troubled teenager being played by Moore. (As well as them trying to find their way through people the true owner of the body knows.) If we are willing to accept that this isn't a Shakespeare comedy, we may find ourselves pleasantly surprised at the humor and comedy it does offer. And like well drawn comedy, there is a moral basis. (Moore and Cameron through their short and annoying journey do learn about each other.) One thing I must say about this movie is that it DOES NOT rely on excess obscenities or slapstick. Nor does it rely on someone getting into fights every 2 mintues. Pick up this movie. It's worth a few dollars.

Description
Here's a guitar lesson that is a must for all fans of Merle Travis! The only son of the legendary guitarist gives us an in-depth look at the famous technique that changed the course of guitar history. When Merle Travis passed away in 1983, we lost one of our most innovative and distinctive musical voices. Fortunately, his songs and fingerpicking style live on in the hands of his son, Thom Bresh, a talented and dynamic guitarist who learned the real Travis-style guitar right from the source.
Thom Bresh grew up listening to, and later playing with, his famous father, and his skilled hands bear a haunting resemblance to his father's. He takes you -- step-by-step -- through Merle's timeless techniques, playing the famous 1938 Martin D-28 with the custom Bigsby neck that was passed on to him by Travis. By the time this powerful lesson is over, you'll have gained an understanding of the real Travis sound, and will be playing such guitar instrumental standards as "Guitar Rag," "Cannonball Rag," "Walking The Strings," "I'll See You In My Dreams," "Bugle Call Rag," "Farewell My Blue Belle," "Hangin' With The Girls I Know."
Homespun is proud to present this lesson to the growing number of Travis enthusiasts and fingerstyle guitarists worldwide. It will make a valuable addition to the collections of all serious guitar students and historians, as it offers a rare opportunity to see and learn from the real-life continuance of a musical legacy -- Travis, the next generation.
