Description
High Times Magazine gets a good buzz on their outrageous, award-winning feature film debut that has been described as "A laugh-out-loud stoner romp." (The Phantom of the Movies).

An all-star cast featuring Jason Mewes, Jason Isaacs, Frank Adonis, Dan Lauria and Oscar(r) nominee Sylvia Miles sparks plenty of excitement in this offbeat comedy set amidst the dark, underground scene of Manhattan. All the rules go up in smoke when an enormous stash of high-grade ganja goes "missing." As the coveted suitcase full of marijuana is sold, stolen, re-stolen and sold again, a bizarre assortment of characters including mobsters, punk rockers, artists, hippies and drag queens creates hilarious havoc as their wacky lives intersect. Approx. 90 Minutes.

4 out of 5 stars My Ex girlfriend's Dad is the big gay biker walking out of the Gay Bar.........2006-01-18

OK - maybe I haven't watched this yet, but it was filmed in Berks County, PA - around Kutztown, and my Ex-girlfriend's late father has a bit part in the movie...

This may be written for a 12 year old, but I am sure it is entertaining... I mean, I'll never get that 90 minutes back from watching "Coyote Ugly" - but I sat through that...

4 out of 5 stars Hilarious from begining to end.......2005-08-22

Maybe it's the fact that I like the so-called "Stoner Movies", or simply that I like good simple comedy movies (the ones that don't make you think too much). Whatever the reason, I found this movie extremely entertaining, and very funny.
I wasn't smoking or even drinking when I watchet it, and I still found the movie hilarious.
The plot, as described in previous reviews, center around a suitcase with bad 'karma', due to its contents. So we follow the suitcase as it is 'hotpotatoet' around a slew of characters who take us around a rollercoaster of emotions that range from joy to sadness, to fear and then to joy again.
I can see how a social or moral position could have triggered the negative reviews I read regarding the movie.
But I don't understand why the harsh language regarding the characters in general. These reflect real people in our society. People with jobs and families, etc, who contribute to our society in a positive way, just like every other good citizen. I hope the day comes soon when we can all get alone a little better. And I think that, in a way, that is the movie's ultimate message.
I'm definetely putting this one in my 'must own' list.

1 out of 5 stars High Times should be ashamed.......2005-07-20

This movie is horrible, the acting is contrived, the plot is looser than a crack (...), and there is enough cliche in this movie to make it an afterschool special. I don't know anyone who smokes and uses the word dude four or five times in a sentence. Why would high times use such cop out dialog? Were they making this movie for Pat Roberts or Tucker Carlson. High Times should be ashamed. Comedy is one thing, but this is as far from comedy as CURSED is from a horror film. Anyone who saw this pile of steaming crap will know what I am talking about. Not really too much to say about this film, except that just because a movie has pot in it certainly does not make it underground or cool. This movie is as underground and cool as Richard Nixon's meeting with Elvis.

1 out of 5 stars Fromage.......2005-07-07

This is a pretty bad movie. Suitable for Grade 12 viewers / stoners. Not extremely well made (the dialogue is buried a lot of the time) or well plotted (very contrived and silly storyline). There are no funny characters that make the movie watchable despite its awfulness (like in Little Nicky). The ending, while better than the ending for 'Mars Attacks' is still cheesy in the extreme.

5 out of 5 stars I say Nope to Dope, but Yes to this Movie!.......2005-05-23

When my husband rented this movie, I was skeptical. After watching it, I had to add it to my DVD collection. The movie revolves around a briefcase of pot with 'bad karma' that no one can seem to get rid of. As the story unfolds, many different people are intertwined and cross each others' paths (including an artist, a she-male, a chick band, pot dealers, the FBI, and the mob) until it all comes together at the end. I LOVE movies like that! So, you can smoke a doobie and watch it for the pot references, or just pop it in the player and watch a comical movie with a funny/happy ending. I LOVE it when everything works out in the end.
