Jack Corcoran (Bill Murray) is a mildly successful motivational speaker on the lower end of the trade-show circuit. At his engagement party, he finds out his long-believed-dead dad has only recently died, leaving him a large inheritance. Of course, Jack doesn't know how large until he meets a suspicious lawyer (Harve Presnel) who unloads Dad's prized possession: a four-ton circus elephant named Vera (Tai). Larger Than Life is a buddy-road movie. Murray uses his old tricks to bully or con several people into helping him, including a whacked-out truck driver (Matthew McConaughey). In this day and age of digital effects, Murray could be teaming up with Roger Rabbit or some other special effect; his interplay with Tai is quite natural. Director Howard Franklin codirected the underrated Quick Change with Murray, and it's clear they work well together. A curio in Murray's career, this film is effective and fun family entertainment, filled with good-natured ribs, bubble-light dramatics, and a scene-stealing elephant. She's a charmer. --Doug Thomas

Jack Corcoran (Murray) is thrilled when he learns that his father, a former circus clown, has left him a very big inheritance. But when Jack learns that the large legacy is Vera, an 8,000-pound elephant, he immediately makes plans to sell her'to a buyer 3,000 miles away! Thus begins the most outrageous cross-country journey ever, complete with crazed truck drivers, hilarious run-ins with the law and one lovelorn elephant who stretches the limits of travel size but is really big on charm!

I SUPPOSE you could say the notion of a guy inheriting a female elephant from a dead parent (or parent figure) that he then must travel cross-country with is an idea that could occur to more than one writer ... but it may be just general enough that the originating writer need not be credited. Which is too bad. For LARGER THAN LIFE is clearly an update and paraphrase of the period British novel ROSIE IS MY RELATIVE, written by the late naturalist Gerald Durrell. Though the episodes in the film are quite different from those in the book, the over-arcing story follows a similar trajectory and retains the air of eccentric sweetness. In England, where Durrell was the famous author of several bestsellers (most prominently his autobiographies, which were dramatised for TV), ROSIE IS MY RELATIVE is something of a cult classic. If you find a copy and read it, you'll see why. It's a delightful book. The film owes it much.

I was so impressed that I recieved my DVD within 2 days!!

Larger than Life is such a funny movie. It seems not many people have heard of this movie but I highly recommend seeing it. I had looked all over for it in the stores to buy and it was nowhere to be found. I knew I would be able to find it on amazon and for a great price.
If you liked Groundhogs Day with Bill Murray, you will like this. It also has a small cameo with Matthew McConaughey that was hilarious!!, you won't even recognize him.

Yes.. it is a little cheesy, but it makes me smile. Watching the elephant in the lake and seeing the simple joy from that animal makes the world go away and makes me thankful for the things I take for granted. This is by no means my favorite movie but it is in a group of 5...make me feel better movies.

larger than life is a cute movie about jack corcoran who inherits vera a 8,000 pound elephant from his estranged fatherand former clown .Jack then tries to get rid of her by trying to find the highest bidder which happens to be 3,000 miles away .so begins this crazy cross country journey everwhere he meets a crazy truck driver ( matthew mcconaughey)runins with the law and even his father former friend the human blockhead .along the way jack learns to love vera and finds out getting rid a vera is the hardest thing he will ever have to do . but dont worry vera goes to a good home . this movie is a treasure and fun for the whole family laugh out loud . it is one of my top favorites along with finding nemo and drop dead fred . if you have any thing else to add email me at swoopsav1@yahoo.com. thanks

I bought "Larger Than Life" because I enjoyed some of the more oddball films in Bill Murray's canon like "Quick Change" and "The Man Who Knew Too Little". For the most part this film is enjoyable and goes down easy but not particularly memorable. To Murray's credit he does not phone his performance in but his droll sarcastic style that he does so effortlessly would make it appear so. Interesting supporting cast here includes Lois Smith, Keith David, and Pat Hingle. To the film's detriment Linda Fiorentino, an immensely talented actress, is wasted in a small role. Matthew McConaughey presence here as a crazed trucker feels out of place in what is essentially a family film. This film is a breezy piece of fluff and there are worse ways to wile away any idle time.

Saw these gentlemen on the Tony Danza Show (TV) for the first time. They sang a medly of 50s songs and I enjoyed them very much. They advertised this CD as the one with the 50s songs so I ordered it. Disappointedly I received a cd with all classical music and was very disappointed, and you can't return CDs, so I rated it as a 2 since I do not enjoy classical music.

This is one of the best Opera DVDs I have ever watched. These guys are fantastic! Even if you aren't a huge fan of opera, it's worth watching this DVD. They make opera fun! To quote from the DVD "the best of opera without all the boring bits!"

Bought this for my wife, a true opera lover. We ended up fast-forwarding through most of the last half. Very boring! Mediocre talent. Don't waste your time or money. This once viewed DVD is now destined to sit on the shelf forever.

Fell victim to previous ratings...so cheap including the musical accompany...find it..so unnatural with these...singers singing MOST of the songs or arias... JUST the same it was a good thing to come out of Australia !! WOW.i just finnish watching the MO tenors..WHAT a great differance..!!

This is full, rich, rounded musical sound of mature and trained voices performing in range from hauntingly lyrical to full throated vigorous drama. And here, among all excellent pieces, is the best Waltzing Matilda I've ever heard! The performers are talented, likable and inventive, and their enjoyment in their music is infectious. I am so glad to have found this group. I'll have to travel quite a ways to catch them live, but that is an audience I MUST take part in.

          larger than life is a cute movie about jack corcoran who inherits vera a 8,000 pound elephant from his estranged fatherand former clown .Jack then tries to get rid of her by trying to find the highest bidder which happens to be 3,000 miles away .so begins this crazy cross country journey everwhere he meets a crazy truck driver ( matthew mcconaughey)runins with the law and even his father former friend the human blockhead .along the way jack learns to love vera and finds out getting rid a vera is the hardest thing he will ever have to do . but dont worry vera goes to a good home . this movie is a treasure and fun for the whole family laugh out loud . it is one of my top favorites along with finding nemo and drop dead fred . if you have any thing else to add email me at swoopsav1@yahoo.com. thanks

          I bought "Larger Than Life" because I enjoyed some of the more oddball films in Bill Murray's canon like "Quick Change" and "The Man Who Knew Too Little". For the most part this film is enjoyable and goes down easy but not particularly memorable. To Murray's credit he does not phone his performance in but his droll sarcastic style that he does so effortlessly would make it appear so. Interesting supporting cast here includes Lois Smith, Keith David, and Pat Hingle. To the film's detriment Linda Fiorentino, an immensely talented actress, is wasted in a small role. Matthew McConaughey presence here as a crazed trucker feels out of place in what is essentially a family film. This film is a breezy piece of fluff and there are worse ways to wile away any idle time.
