Recovering from the box-office disappointment of The Cable Guy, Jim Carrey gave his fans what they wanted in this good-natured and frequently hilarious 1997 comedy. In a vehicle tailor-made for his verbal and physical antics, Carrey plays a lawyer whose penchant for prevarication is tested when his son makes a birthday wish that his father would tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth for 24 hours, so help him God! Without his daily defense of white lies, selfish fibs, and outright deception, the helpless lawyer finds himself blurting uncensored truths with total, and totally outrageous, candor. The script is clever enough to milk the premise for all it's worth, but it's Carrey's energy--particularly in a hilarious bathroom scene where he literally mugs himself to delay a trial--that keeps the movie going to its sappy happy ending. The supporting cast includes Jennifer Tilly, Cary Elwes, and Amanda Donohoe. --Jeff Shannon

4 out of 5 stars A solid Jim Carey comedy.......2007-04-22

I highly enjoyed this movie. My favorite of Jim Carey's comedic performances. The scene with the pen alone is well worth picking up this movie for. The only Jim Carey movies I like more are his more serious ones like The Truman Show or Man on the Moon.

5 out of 5 stars Love this man and this movie.......2007-04-01

This man is " my kind of funny " and this movie of his
makes me absolutely hysterical with loud and frequent
laughter. I get so happy after seeing this movie.
I would recommend this movie to anyone that is in
need of serious mood lifting because I believe that
this Jim Carrey movie can and will raise your heart
to new levels of hope and happiness. Watch it and
feel the results yourself.

5 out of 5 stars Jim Careys Best Movie.......2006-12-27

I loved liar liar! I never get tired of watching it! I dont believe his performance was over the top as some might. I think that this is his best movie if not one of the best. It has a GREAT feel good story line and if you couple it with the fantastic actors and hilariouse content youve got a classic entertaining movie you will love for years!

4 out of 5 stars So birthday wishes really do coame true........2006-11-25

This movie "Liar liar" was the funniest Jim Carry movie ever!!!!!!!!

4 out of 5 stars Hey Pinocchio, your nose is growing!.......2006-10-25

One of the best performances Jim Carrey has given. A very good concept for a film. Funny, refreshing, original and very well done. I felt it could have been a lot better with a little less comedy and a little more drama to get the point across better but still a must see for any Jim Carrey fan. Great acting, casting, screenplay and filming. I recommend it.

3 out of 5 stars Liar Liar (HD DVD) Review by Justin Sluss.......2007-06-21

The Movie Itself tells the story of how one smooth talking, habitual liar of an attorney "Fletcher Reede" (played by Jim Carey) is forced by his son's birthday wish to have to tell the truth for the next 24 hours. From the second his son "Max" (played by Justin Cooper) blows out his birthday candles until that exact time the next day "Fletcher" (a shady lawyer) is in for 24 hours of telling "the whole truth and nothing but the truth."

This movie for it's time was a huge hit and allowed star Jim Carey to portray a character that looked normal (meaning not have to wear a wig, make-up, etc.) but still allowed him to be able to do his crazy spontaneous comedy type of acting at the same time. This film is not only hilarious and one that is sure to make you laugh but it's also kind of touching the story between the father, son. Obviously not as much so as just downright how funny Jim Carey is in this film. Even with all the other ratings considered this is still a film worth checking out if you have never seen it.

Video Quality on this release is 1080p VC-1 on a 15 gigabyte HD DVD disc. To be a film from 1997 and only on a HD-15 (15gb HD DVD) the video quality here looks really good I think over the original DVD. I for one owned the original `97 DVD release which was actually a 4:3 Fullscreen version, so for me this is almost like night and day but still it's nothing worthy of a 5 star rating. Honestly at times I have to say this is almost just as good as the video transfer for "Bruce Almighty", the other Jim Carey film released the same day on HD DVD. There is some obvious film grain in a few scenes that just hasn't been cleaned up. This translates into some very noticeable film noise in the video presentation from time to time. This is I guess to be expected from a 1997 release like this but I'd have to say the video transfer is an improvement overall and very watchable.

Audio Quality on this release is in Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 @ 1.5Mbps which is an improvement over the original DVD releases' Dolby Digital tracks but still nothing that amazing. It gets 3 stars for being an improvement over the original DVD and really that is why it gets this audio quality rating. The film is primarily dialog driven anyway so it really doesn't matter too much about an improvement in audio quality here. This film is mostly about Jim Carey's character and his hilarious dialog he dishes out once his son has makes the birthday wish. You're most likely going to be laughing so hard at some points I doubt you'll hear too much of the movie's sound over yourself.

Bonus Materials appear to be nothing more than the latest DVD release's ("Collector's Edition") bonus materials ported over and presented in 4:3 standard definition. Really disappointing as you'd expect but let's begin with what all you'll find here. First off there's audio Commentary by Director Tom Shadyac. "Bridging the Comedy Chasm" (16 minutes) starts off to appear to be nothing more than Jim Carey goofing off but soon we get interviews not only from him but also the producer, Director Tom Shadyac and other cast members like the young Justin Cooper. This proves to really showcase Jim obviously more than anybody but it still is worth watching and has some laughs. "Deleted Scene" (4 minutes) is just what you'd expect. Only one deleted scene here obviously but it's a good one if I say so myself. It shows "Fletcher Reede" in a court case (which would have been shown probably near or at the beginning of the film if it had not been deleted) defending this big neanderthal of a criminal against this little old man in a neck brace. It's "Fletcher" at his finest when he could lie. This scene honestly shouldn't have been deleted if you ask me. It's worth 4 minutes of pure laughter, I think anyway. Last we get a very horrible quality (for both video and sound) version of the original Theatrical Trailer to the film. These bonus materials are nothing short of really disappointing as I started this off saying. The only reason this got as high of a rating as it did for bonus materials is the fact Universal not only includes bookmarks now but the ability to make In and Out's to your favorite scenes. If it were not for that, this would have been rated probably 1 or 1 1/2 stars.

Pitting kids against grown-ups has always been a reliable source of comedy, and Big Fat Liar indulges the "smart kid vs. dumb adult" fantasy with infectious enthusiasm. In this case it's Frankie Muniz from TV's Malcolm in the Middle, playing a Michigan eighth-grader whose penchant for lying results in parental scorn when he claims that a Hollywood movie mogul (ace character actor Paul Giamatti) has stolen the kid's hastily written English essay and turned it into his upcoming summer blockbuster. The kid only wants to prove his honesty and recruits his girlfriend (spunky TV star Amanda Bynes) to beat the honcho on his Hollywood turf. Elaborate practical jokes and slapstick gags turn this kid stuff (scripted and produced by two former child stars) into an enjoyable send-up of Hollywood absurdity. When combined with Giamatti's mastery of slow-burning megalomania, the show-biz in-jokes and Home Alone-style anarchy make this a harmless diversion for the young and young-at-heart. --Jeff Shannon

5 out of 5 stars Glad they had my movie.......2007-05-15

I had been looking for this movie for months and it came right up. I have watched the movie at least 5 times since reciving it. It was brand new like they promised. I have been nothing but happy.

5 out of 5 stars funny..........2007-05-04

Sweet revenge was never so much fun! It is the perfect tale of "what goes around, comes around!" Paul Giamatti is a funny actor and pulls this one off in excellence. A movie for the family!

5 out of 5 stars The Blue Man.......2007-03-20

My daugther loves this movie and watches it over and over again. Very good clean humor.

3 out of 5 stars Not a blockbuster hit but watchable.......2007-01-04

I bought the DVD of this movie a long time after its release, after hearing how awesome it was. It was cute and funny and all that but I don't think it was anything very special. It seemed to me like it was not Frankie Muniz's best work. He was loads better in the agent cody bank movies. Still, it's a fun family movie and kids from the ages of 5 to 10 will like it.

2 out of 5 stars Big Fat Nothing.......2006-09-11

Take some talented actors and put them in an age old story of smart kids versus dumb adults and you get more of the same. Really, is this the type of movie we want to pawn off on our kids? They deserve better.

The key point of this movie is that lying is bad. Good point. A device used to bring out the truth is creative pranks. Also good. Unfortunately, the pranks fall flat as they are totally implausible (even kids will have a hard time believing a man can't tell he's been dyed blue until he looks in the mirror), and since they are the device used to bring the movie to its conclusion, the entire thing falls flat.

Making films for children is a fine thing. They shouldn't be dumbed down or even given an uncritical eye just because they are for children, however. Quite honestly, I'd rather have a kid watch something like "Good Will Hunting" before this.

Don't waste your children's time with this film. Read them a book ... a good book ... instead.

5 out of 5 stars a beautiful gift to either a casual or die-hard beyonce fan.......2007-06-21

Awesome! This woman has so much depth, talent and energy. She has worked hard for many years and is obviously at the top of her game. She has a beautiful heart and soul as well as incredible talent. I truly wish her continued success in her career but most importantly peace, joy and happiness in her personal life. She brings so much heart soul and sweetness to her craft. My personal favorites are "Beautiful Liar" with Shakira - the message and creativity are unique - "Flaws and All" because she exposes herself as a woman. I could go on, but let's just say this DVD certainly won't disappoint, so definitely check it out!

(Hey B continue to thrive and do your thing, we are feeling you!)

Oh, and to all the "B Haters", go find your own niche because at this point no one can deny that the girl is really awesome on so many levels as she continues to soar doing what she loves, her way.

4 out of 5 stars Ring the Alarm...This Collection Is On Fire!.......2007-06-03

It's funny how videos can make you appreciate songs more. I'm one of the people that was disappointed with B'Day upon its initial release. Now with the release of the Beyonce's B'Day Anthology, I wonder how did I sleep on a number of the songs on the CD.

Frank Gatson Jr who choreographed those contagious rump-shaking, back-arching moves for the "Crazy In Love" video returns as lead choreographer for most of the videos here. And once again Beyonce delivers. "Upgrade U", "Get Me Bodied (Remix)", "Suga Mama", and "Beautiful Liar" are awesome while "Freakum Dress", "Kitty Kat/Greenlight", and "Ring The Alarm" are great as well. You can't help but acknowledge that 'B' is at the top of her game as you watch her morph from one style to another within each of the videos. She remains one of the most intriguing women in the world as a sexy, visual marvel holding the R&B/Pop crown. Even the most casual fans should upgrade their collection with this video anthology.

5 out of 5 stars You've outdone yourself B!.......2007-05-09

Wow, what an AMAZING collection!! I saw most of the `exclusive' videos on VH1 a day before I got the album myself. I didn't actually think the anthology album was going to be released here, so I was very surprised and ecstatic when I saw it here. B Day Deluxe Edition has actually been released as a CD + DVD here, so we don't get the 2nd CD like you guys. But I don't like remixes, so it's cool.
Beyonce is the hottest woman in showbiz! No one can sing better, dance better, and still look so electrifyingly hot while doing it!! She really put a lot of work into most of these videos, and I'm sure it cost a fortune too. "Beautiful Liar" is HOT! Beyonce and Shakira go so well together, and it's cute that they look similar in the video. One thing I noticed while watching the videos is that Beyonce's body is in peak condition! Her legs are amazing - she is my motivation when I work out! Hehe. I love this video album, and I will treasure it forever, it's such a perfect gift for the fans. Well done B, you truly are a superstar.

4 out of 5 stars This is how you make a video album.......2007-05-06

You've got to hand it to Beyonce - few artists have the budget, vision, drive, and sheer talent to make an entire video album - there are few out the over the years (Blondie's Eat to the Beat comes to mind), but very few in the soul/R&B arena - while we've seen a few of these videos before on MTV (Irreplaceable, Deja Vu, etc), the majority have never been seen before and are EXCLUSIVE to this DVD, which oddly is being sold as an EXCLUSIVE to Wal-Mart?! I bought it online & it was definitely worth it. Beyonce is smokin' HOT in all the clips, and there really isn't a bad apple in the bunch - my favorites are GREENLIGHT (amazing homage/parody of Robert Palmer's 80s model-chic videos!), GET ME BODIES (a sly tribute/take-off of Bob Fosse's SWEET CHARITY "mod 60s" sequence if you can believe it with an extended no-holds-barred danceoff!), and more. Value for the money - if you like B'DAY, you'll love this! Only her video version of LISTEN is a bit weak, but you can just rent DREAMGIRLS!

5 out of 5 stars FABULOUS.......2007-04-26

this is a definite for the video collection! beyonce works her behind off. every video is unique and hot and the dancing and the clothes and the makeup and angles are all so great! i can't say enough about it. most artists couldn't pull this off but it's unique and fun and worth it!! b you are doing it!

Roberto Benigni's Life Is Beautiful aside, milking the Holocaust for laughs is a dangerous game. Even the blackest, most therapeutic humor turns queasy in the shadow of such monstrous evil; it's like dancing on a mass grave. So Jakob the Liar's got a hard road to hoe--its eponymous schlemiel plays out his semi-farcical adventures in the mean streets of the Warsaw Ghetto circa 1944. The skies are always leaden over Jakob's hometown, reflecting the comic climate that pervades this mostly unfortunate adaptation of Jurek Becker's autobiographical book (first filmed in 1975).

Jakob Heym (Robin Williams in overbearingly earnest mode) gets tangled in a string of self-perpetuating lies about a hidden radio, supposedly broadcasting news that the victorious Red Army is nearing. His desperate attempts to convince a clutch of insistently idiosyncratic friends (clichés to a man: Liev Schreiber, Bob Balaban, Michael Jeter, Alan Arkin) and obligatory Nazi bad guys that the radio doesn't exist are complicated by the fact that he's stashed a fugitive kid (a dead ringer--sorry!--for Anne Frank) in his attic--and by abundant evidence that lies are the best medicine for the ghetto's skyrocketing suicide rate. Copious unfunny misunderstandings and pratfalls eventuate in this Holocaust rendition of Fiddler on the Roof (you expect Williams to break into song: "If I were a funny man...."). Ultimately, Jakob the Liar loses its way for good in some very ugly violence and a rather nasty final twist: the film's ending might just be rubbing our noses in another feel-good lie. --Kathleen Murphy

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars I think some reviewers are missing the point.......2007-03-20

I understand that the Holocaust is a sensitive subject to people of all ages, races, religions, gender, and so on. It is important that the world understands how and why this happened, and i commend all people who make an effort to recast and teach the world the terror that so many were subjected to.
Yes, we all know Robin Williams to be the slapstick comedian which has brought tears of laughter to our eyes instead of ones of compassion. But like Roberto Benigni in Life is Beautiful, Williams brings to life a character who tries to lift the spirits of friends and strangers who are looking for one thing, hope.
Whether Williams' character was real or imaginary, the human spirit can never be completely wiped by tyranny and oppression. 10 million people, including 6 million Jews were systematically killed before the Nazi's were finally stopped. Some died as fighters, some gave their lives for others, and some gave just simple acts of kindness, good will, and love. Each one of them were heroes of their own kind.
William's character told lies about Russian troop advancement to give the Jews of his Ghetto the will to survive and resist. Like real life heroes such as Rauol Wallenberg, Oskar Schindler, Mordecai Anielewicz, Hannah Senesh, and thousands of others who risked their lives for others, this is a story of a good man.
Maybe this movie was not an exact interpretation of its predecessors, books or movies, and yes it did have some hollywood-like moments. But oeverall, a tribute to the men, women, and children who shall always be remembered and never forgotten.

4 out of 5 stars another ethnic cleansing film .......so we do not forget......very moving.......2007-01-10

jewish soles trying to avoid the devil's brigade (hitler's killing machine).... sad, but oh so funny and cute in sections that alas, maybe only the jewish people would truly understand. i found it all of these things but with love, warmth to the end.

5 out of 5 stars comedy in the face of despair.......2006-05-02

I saw this film on television some time ago.

Robin Williams superbly portrays a Jew existing in a Ghetto in occupied Poland surrounded by nazis. In this despairing situation he tries to keep his own spirits up while hiding a fugitive from the deportations to the Death Camps. One lie after another, he inadvertently tries to fib his way through his dayly existence until they finally catch up with him.

A heartful story. Excelletn performance by Robbin Williams. The supporting cast does their job well. The ending Hopeful.

1 out of 5 stars Read the book instead.......2005-11-22

I originally read the novel (of which I assume most of the other reviewers are unaware) and watched the earlier German film of the same name for a college course entitled "Memory and Mourning in Post-War Germany."

I'd just like to point out that the film is a horrible depiction of the novel. It seems that the director wanted to make a more "Hollywood" version of the film, and I think he succeeded. For instance, the entire ending is completely different from that of the novel, and in my opinion is completely wrong for the story.

In general, the film has little to do with any of the original versions, and is far inferior.

4 out of 5 stars Very good and it shows the importance well........2005-10-12

We had to watch this for school and we just finished it today. I thought it was a terrific film. The end was very sad but still good!

4 out of 5 stars Loved Tonja Walker too... the whole cast.......2006-04-06

I hadn't seen this film in a long time and had forgotten Tonja Walker was in it... I have been a fan of hers for a long time. This must have been one of her first movies.
Matt Dillon was believable and charming and also illicits great sympathy. Cindy was good too. A great coming of age to real love story.

4 out of 5 stars MATT DILLION IS DARLING!.......2006-02-26

Okay so this may not be THE best Matt Dillion film but you must admit he is rather darling. The film has some touching moments and some really weird ones (Lora Mae....she is TOO much!)
There were actually 2 endings to this film. One in which the character Ginny died and the one that is on this DVD. I wish they would have shown both and added a few extras. It's a worth buying to add to you Matt Dillion collection.

5 out of 5 stars Liar's Moon song title.......2005-03-02

Answer to question about a song title in the movie.
First words of song "I'll love you forever..."
Song title is "Forever" and was written by Ray Benson.

Hope this helps.

3 out of 5 stars For Teen Girls.......2005-01-17

This is an early Matt Dillon movie. He looks like he's 17 years old. Cindy Fisher plays the sweet rich girl that falls unexplainably in love with a local poor heartthrob. Hmmm, yes, he's good to look at and Dillon is polite, but it's hard to say what quality of speech or physicality attracts Fisher. Then there are the usual difficulties of youth and thorny parents. This one has a twist that only seems to happen if the setting is the South, Texas, or Bill Clinton's hometown of Hope, AK. I won't let the main complexity out of the bag, but our star-crossed lovers have their hands full.

There's plenty here to thrill and enchant a teen girl. The plot is all melodrama, soap opera, and teen-sex stage show. There are elements of humor to relieve the relentless drama: a greased pig contest, a drinking bout, prep boy gets sick on a carnival whip, or Dillon pays for Fisher's kiss at the same carnival. These chuckles reminded me of American Pie, a later and far superior film. The drama is Rebel Without a Cause, but it's inferior to the older film. Again, this one is for Matt Dillion fans and teen girls.

5 out of 5 stars Interesting little movie.......2003-05-30

Liars Moon is a movie that never gets talked about anymore the only star I recognize is Matt Dillon but he never talks about this film anymore and all of the other actors I have never seen before. It was made in the early 80's but the film quality looks older than what the movie appears. This is such a nice little love story that is not over the top. This movie was very overlooked years ago and still is now a great story about southern romance I never knew that there was such a great story like this.

1 out of 5 stars TERRIBLE movie.......2006-08-28

This movie was mis-represented and falsely advertised. Many people have read the book "Liar's Poker" and it is likely that those same people have seen the Movie "Wall Street"...When i went to check out as i was purchasing Wall Street, Amazon suggested i might like the "Liars Poker" movie as well, basically attempting to play on the likelihood that i read the Liars Poker book. However, when i watched Liarts Poker movie, it was terrible and had ZERO relation to the book. For the first time, i am COMPLETELY unsatisfied with Amazon, more specifically, the marketing team which i've come to rely on.

4 out of 5 stars SERIOUS EFFORT BRINGS ITS REWARDS........2005-10-06

This is an interesting crime film by freshman director Jeff Santo. The narrative is of less importance than the technique, which involves pace-related risktaking. Expressionism is nicely developed here, with the manner in which time is handled being consistent with the script. The slowness of the scenes might be offputting to some, but a directorial point of view is established and well-met. The acting, particularly by Heinle, Hunter and Blondell, maintains the author's focus on style. There are some red herrings, but not enough to mar this little-known attempt at creative cinema.

Description

Tom Courtenay gives a flawlessly nuanced performance as Billy Fisher, the underachieving undertaker's assistant whose constant daydreams and truth-deficient stories earn him the nickname "Billy Liar." Julie Christie is the handbag-swinging charmer whose free spirit just might inspire Billy to finally move out of his parents' house. Deftly veering from gritty realism to flamboyant fantasy, Billy Liar is a dazzling and uproarious classic.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Billy Liar.......2007-06-27

Melding British kitchen-sink realism with fanciful sequences that dramatize Billy's reveries, director Schlesinger got his name on the map with this brilliant satire, partly inspired by James Thurber's classic story "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty." Courtenay is a marvel as Billy, the blue-collar drudge whose reliance on his inner life earns him a reputation as an unreliable dreamer. Mona Washbourne also excels as Alice, Billy's daffy, sympathetic mother.

5 out of 5 stars JULIE CHRISTIE!.......2007-05-04

"Billy Liar," directed by Oscar winner John Schlesinger (Best Director, 'Midnight Cowboy') is billed as a comedy, but to me is much more of a tragedy with bits of comedy thrown in here and there. Presented by The Criterion Collection, "Billy Liar" is a little treasure of a film that is worth seeing for many reasons, but one big one...JULIE CHRISTIE.

Tom Courtenay gives an absolutely brilliant performance as Billy Fisher, an undertaker's assistant that lives with his parents and has two fiancees. Fisher longs for escape and constantly daydreams of being the leader of a country and of shooting people he doesn't like. He also has a problem with telling the truth and frequently finds himself in jams that he must lie to get out of. This earns him the nickname Billy Liar, but not until much later in the film. Christie plays Liz, a free-spirited woman who has so little screen time but makes a very big impression on the audience.

Any review you read of "Billy Liar" will mention how fantastic Julie Christie is. She's incredibly beautiful, incredibly talented, and steals the show. The movie is about 75% comedy and much of the first 3/4 of it play as a comedy, but I thought the last part of the film had a completely dramatic change of tone...Which, in my opinion, worked for the better. The end is especially tragic. "Billy Liar" is a fantastic film that few people have heard of that definitely needs to be seen by more people, I highly recommend it.
GRADE: A

5 out of 5 stars Funny and brilliant, like watching a juggler handle five balls at the same time.......2006-03-21

Walter Mitty gone mad on the cutting edge, and set in England. Tom Courtenay is Billy, a perpetual liar; he's trapped in his own drab, stifling northern England surroundings, and his only escape is a fantasy world he's concocted. Where Mitty would just innocently imagine another time and place for himself, Billy involves everyone around him in his chronic lying. Sometimes the lies are connected with the fantasies (going to London to write TV scripts, for example), but usually they are just outright lies not connected to anything: he's engaged to two women at the same time, he lies to his boss and family about what he's up to, are just two examples. Mitty was henpecked by his wife; Billy by his whole world.

Courtenay is brilliant, and the intercutting of his fantasies with the real world is also excellently done. The message is universal: we all feel trapped at times and wish we could escape; we either do escape or somehow find a rational way to cope. For Billy, there's no way to do either. He almost escapes at the end with Julie Christie, who has a small role as a creature who CAN escape at will, but he chickens out. The acting, the script, even the photography, are all superb. Definitely worth a watch.

4 out of 5 stars Living in Ambrosia.......2005-01-28

Sometime the prospect of reality is so burdensome, a retreat into fantasy affords the only opportunity for escape. Indeed, isn't this the domain of the artist? If so, is Billy really a liar? He's created an entire country in his mind called Ambrosia, and in order to provide for its existence he must maintain the fiction that is his "real" life. What is real for Billy? He's engaged to two girls, both of whom are representations of opposite poles of a dreary domestic existence. He's employed by a mortuary, controlled by two men, one who wants to modernize the industry by creating sleek new caskets made out of plastic and the other who longs for the formality and perhaps dignity of a time long since past. Billy lives in a working class town where all the old buildings are gradually being torn down and replaced by modern structures like supermarkets! Should Billy "grow-up" which actually means waking up (something Billy is loath to do) and accept his station in life? And give up Ambrosia!? Enter Liz (the alluring Julie Christie) who strides into town like a breath of fresh air evoking boundless possibilities. She can offer Billy an alternative: to venture out into the unknown. While Billy is brave and daring in his imaginary kingdom, when confronted by the frightening prospect of the unfamiliar and real, will he seize the opportunity or retreat back into Ambrosia?

4 out of 5 stars a film about a daydreamer.......2004-08-01

This review is forthe Criterion Collection DVD edition of the film.

This film based on the Keith Waterhouse novel is a gem of British cinema.

The film is about a young man named William "Billy" Fisher. He has many daydreams about being the leader of a fictional country called Ambrosia. He has made several mistakes at his job and tells lies to avoid getting himself into trouble. He then needs to tell even bigger lies to cover his tracks and ends up being believed by nobody.

The film has good acting including an early starring role of Julie Christie. The film laso has some humorous scenes including a bagpipe marching band parading through a grocery store.

Th DVD also has special features which consist of a theatrical trailer, audio commentary by director John Schlesinger, actor Tom Courtenay, and actress Julie Christie.

This is another film that defined British comedy and should be seen by fans of the genre
