Editorial Review:
Amazon.com essential video
Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis wrote the script, but Bill Murray gets all the best lines and moments in this 1984 comedy directed by Ivan Reitman (Meatballs). The three comics, plus Ernie Hudson, play the New York City-based team that provides supernatural pest control, and Sigourney Weaver is the love interest possessed by an ancient demon. Reitman and company are full of original ideas about hobgoblins--who knew they could "slime" people with green plasma goo?--but hovering above the plot is Murray's patented ironic view of all the action. Still a lot of fun, and an obvious model for sci-fi comedies such as Men in Black. --Tom Keogh

Stays true to the ghostbusters we know and love!.......2007-06-21
I remember seeing these movies years ago when I was just a young tyke and now with the purchase of this double-feature pack, I can watch them whenever I want.
As always when watching films again when you are older, you catch things you may have missed due to the innocent mind of being a child. Such is the case with these movies. The comedic timing from the entire cast is right on point and will hve you stitches from the beginning until the very end.
Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, and Rick Moranis are absolute comic geniuses in these movies. I find the more subtle jokes and humor a bit more appealing as it seems that these are the jokes intended for adults, while the general story is geared toward children. Also, I was never aware that the role of Dana Barret was played by Sigourney Weaver, who is not only amazingly stunning in these films, but also holds her own in the comedy department against the guys.
The double-feature pack doesn't have many extras, but in my mind you can't beat the price and its worth it just for the movies themselves. If you don't have this pack, get it as soon as possible if you are like me and have been a fan of the ghostbusters since childhood.
Blast from the Past!!!.......2007-04-06
We all can sing the song, and know the cartoon, but there is nothing like the real thing! I love both movies!
Who you gonna call? GHOSTBUSTERS!!!
GREAT DEAL FOR THE TWO FILMS BUT THEY ARE NOT AS FUNNY AS I REMEMBERED.......2007-03-25
I remember really liking the first one in the theater. It just seems to have lost something over the years. Still a great deal for the two films. The first is a classic and the second is certainly watchable. The DVD transfer is quite good on the 2 pack edition.
One of my long time favorites.......2007-03-17
Still a pleasure to watch. Enjoyable comedy. Bill Murray, Dan Ackroyd and Harold Ramis at their best. Great support by Rick Moranis and Sigourney Weaver. Very good direction and script.
Looks great, one great comedy, one good one, and some interesting extras.......2007-02-20
Since these movies came out in 1983 and 1989, before my youngest son was born, he had somehow missed out on seeing Ghostbusters. While he had seen the second film, he had not seen the first. And for me, I did not remember the second installment being nearly as much fun as the first. So, when I saw this set with the two of them, I bought it. It is a terrific set and has a nice little booklet with some of drawings and sketches that were done to originate the ideas for the first Ghostbusters.
The first movie was a sensation. The title song was remarkable and was the song of 1984. The exuberance of the actors, their chemistry, and the downright strangeness of the story delighted nearly everyone and if my youngest son's reaction is representative of young people today, it is still a great deal of fun. Yes, the effects look much cheesier than they did in 1983 (the year the film was made) before CGI took over effects in film.
It is also fun to watch the film with the commentary and learn more about how the story evolved from Ackroyd's original treatment and what went on in making the movie. Some of the classic lines of the film were improvised or were done by the actor. For example, Dana's (Sigourney Weaver) line to Venkman (Bill Murray) that he didn't seem like a scientist, that he seemed more like a game show host was perfect and supplied by Weaver. The original line given her was more hackneyed, that Venkman seemed more like a used car salesman. The difference is one is fresh and memorable the other would just be lost in the rest of the movie.
There is so much that is wonderful in the first Ghostbusters that it is impossible to list them all. We all have our favorite moments and as we watch the movie we are reminded of more that we really like. Just for fun, look up the cast on IMDB and see what they have all done since. It is quite an interesting exercise.
The second film was inevitable given the success of the first. The domestic box office was $231 million and worldwide it was $291 million for the first movie.
However, I remember feeling that Ghostbusters 2 was a bit of a disappointment. The music wasn't very good (the Bobby Brown stuff was terrible!) and the story seemed too much a sermon instead of the best story they could invent (but maybe it was). As I watched it again after all these years, I have to say that it was better than I remembered. Yes, the Bobby Brown stuff and the rap crap are still awful, but I can look past that.
The beginning picks up five years after the other filmed ended. They are on hard times. Ray and Winston are doing kids parties for extra cash. As they do a little dance to the Ghostbusters theme from the first movie and come to "Who ya gonna call?" the kids shout back "HE MAN!". Quite deflating for the boys. Ray also has an Occult / Paranormal bookstore. Egon is doing research about on how emotions affect the human environment. Venkman has a cable access show interviewing paranormal nutjobs. And Dana is working at a museum because she has a young baby, Oscar, and can't travel with the orchestra.
We get introduced to the main idea of the film when Dana rolls Oscar's baby carriage through some goo on the sidewalk (who would notice in 1980s New York?). When she stops to talk with someone the carriage starts moving on its own!
I did enjoy many of the scenes. The digging in the street, the courtroom scene, the ghost train. It is all quite funny. Yes, it is very tough to surprise and delight the way the first film did, but there is a lot to enjoy. But whomever it was that insisted on Bobby Brown should still be taken outback and given a stern lecture about how bad an idea that was.
There are also two shorts about the first film. One from 1984 and the other more recent. Both are very interesting. There are also some deleted scenes and it is clear why they weren't included.
One great comedy, one good comedy, and some nice extras in this fine two DVD set.

Who are you going to call?... Ghostbusters.......2007-02-10
WOW! Ivan Rightman's best film yet! this movie is cool, scary, insane, and funny. What I thought was the creepest things were those black and brown red eyed horned dogs named Vinz Clortho and Zuul. And Gozer the owner of them, Gozer is the destructor! If you seen and liked The Blues Brothers starring Dan Aykroyd, you'll like this film co-starring Dan aykroid. And did forget to say that Bill Murry is in it too! See this film before it's too late! YOU HAVE TO SEE THIS FILM!!! Also see the film Ghostbusters 2.

This movie is pretty good!I really liked it a lot. Rated PG for language and scary ghost violence.

I've probably watched Ghostbusters fifty or sixty times since I was seven years old. I know the movie word-for-word and scene-for-scene. It's edited, ostensibly for length.
If this bothers you, avoid this disc. If it doesn't, enjoy a classic comedy on the go.
Fianlly Something good to watch on my PSP.......2005-08-04
One of the best movies to hit the 80's is now on the up and comming PSP. Who would have thought that ghostbusters would still be so popular 20 years later. Great movie. If you have a PSP its a must buy! Even if you don't have a PSP get the new double set they just released on DVD. It has both movies and some of the cartoons on it as well.

Filmation Ghostbusters DVD.......2007-06-27
It's been a blast getting to see this show again. I haven't seen these episodes since I was a kid. I did prefer Real Ghostbusters, but Filmation GB was a pretty close second. Some of the shows don't hold up that well but it still has a fun vibe and great characters like Primeval. After watching the first episode, I vividly remembered the intro and the sequence where they get into their GB gear. The show had great music as well. Includes great packaging and features so get it if you're a fan or just like to remember your childhood.
A great release for a classic.......2007-05-12
I would rush into my bedroom every afternoon to catch this show. While the 'real' Ghostbusters were fighting Sandman and trying to save New York City, Jake, Tracy, and Eddie were shooting bubble gum at robot and werewolf ghosts. What fun.
This is a great collection, as well... a nice lineup of the chronological episodes (I guess it's a season, they call it "Volume 1") and the added bonus episode from the live-action series makes a great set. Transfer looks golden. Don't know how many more of these there will be, but I hope they all come to DVD... this stuff is cartoon goodness.
I'm Spencer, He's Tracy, I'm Kong... Redux.......2007-03-07
One of Saturday morning's mainstays during the 70's was Filmation Studios' THE GHOST BUSTERS, a live-action show starring Forrest Tucker and Larry Storch (of F TROOP fame) as Jake Kong and Eddie Spencer, paranormal investigators teamed with "Tracy," a supersmart gorilla (Bob Burns in a suit) who hunt down and dematerialize ghosts. Combining a limited budget, Tucker and Storch's vaudevillian shtick and some rather imaginative storytelling, THE GHOST BUSTERS became one of the most oft-remembered shows of the '70's Saturday Morning experience.
One decade later, at the height of Akyroyd and Company's GHOSTBUSTERS craze and coming off the success of HE-MAN and SHE-RA, Filmation revived the idea into FILMATION'S GHOSTBUSTERS (to avoid copyright battling), a syndicated animated series now reintroduced on this DVD set, which gives us the first half of FGB's 65-episode run. Showcasing colorful, much-improved animation and an even more imaginative turn at comedic storytelling that brought in elements of science fiction and time travel, FILMATION'S GHOSTBUSTERS continues the legacy of Spencer, Tracy and Kong with their sons, Eddie Jr. and Jake Jr., taking over the family business with Tracy. Armed with more ghost weapons besides their updated and venerable Ghost-Dematerializer, a number of revolving allies (such as intrepid reporter Jessica Wray and flirtatious future sorceress Futura) and the cantankerous transforming Ghost Buggy, Jake, Eddie and Tracy go into battle with the bad-tempered Prime Evil, a robotic, Darth-Vaderesque ghost who runs the spook-filled HauntQuarters in an alternate dimension. The gang's continuous mission is to stop the various schemes of Prime Evil and his gang of ne'er-do-well ghosts, who read like lost children of WACKY RACES (among them the neurotic-robotic skeleton ScaredStiff, bullying future werewolf Fangster, the Terry-Thomas-like Haunter, moronic jokester mummy Airhead, who literally lives up to his name, and the egotistical self-obsessed sorceress Mysteria). The ghost gang are often the major cause of Prime Evil's defeats; all are lazy, extremely self-promoting and somewhat incompetent at teamwork.
Occasionally, some of the jokes wear thin: Eddie's constant bungling, Ghost Buggy's continuous criticism of the Busters, and Prime Evil's inability to say "Ghostbusters" without wincing are all pretty much one-note jokes. Depite this, the series shines as one of Filmation's finest efforts, and as this was its last major series before it closed shop, there's no question that Filmation went out with a bang. The transfers on this DVD set are excellent, and scripts, commentaries on episodes and original artwork are all featured. Also on this set is "The Maltese Monkey," the first episode of the live-action GHOST BUSTERS series, soon to follow on its own DVD set release. Volume II of the animated series will be out soon as well.
If you like good storytelling and would enjoy seeing another take on the notion of "ghost busters," this set would be an excellent buy. If you're an animation fan and, in particular, a Filmation completist, this set is a must-have.
One of the best filmation shows of all time!.......2007-03-04
"Ghostbusters" is one of Filmation's best animated shows ever. Filmation finished working on "He-Man" and "She-Ra" and this was thier new 5-day a week project. With "Ghostbusters" they not only combined the action elements which they mastered with seasons of He-Man and She-Ra, but also combined it with comedy elements that they long mastered some 10 years earlier. The combination of that, with the strive for better animation made "Ghostbusters" an outstanding series. Although not as adult as season#1 of "Flash Gordon", there is plenty of material here that can be enjoyed by kids and adults alike, even more so then what was presented in "He-Man". The animation as I mentioned has improved greatly for this series, and the back grounds, espically during thier transformation scenes, were stunning works of adult art, gothic and "Heavy Metal" inspired. As a kid I remember renting this show on Kid-vid tapes from a local Blockbuster, and although at first my firends and I were confused at the relation between this show and the movie (which we'd figure out quickly there was NONE, and years later found out it was based off an old 70's Filmation live-action show, and the film just barrowed the name), we quickly enjoyed the animated series better then the other product of the same name. The DVD set is quality as usual from the Ink and Paint series editions of the Filmation library. The interviews are a bit shorter, however thats the only flaw and is nothing to complain about in this perfect set.
Go Ghostbusting Filmation Style!.......2007-01-04
Not to be confused with "The Real Ghostbusters," the animated series based on the 1984 hit film, Filmation's "Ghostbusters" was actually based on the 1975 live action Saturday morning series "The Ghost Busters" starring Forrest Tucker and Larry Storch [of "F Troop" fame] as ghost busters Jake Kong and Eddie Spenser respectively. Along with Tracy, their gorilla played by Bob Burns, Jake and Eddie fought the ghosts of historical villains. Both versions of the show were produced by Filmation.
Filmation's 1986 animated Ghostbusters series featured Jake Kong Jr. and Eddie Spenser Jr., the sons of Jake and Eddie assisted by Tracy the gorilla, Jessica the reporter, Belfry the bat, and Futura the sorceress. From their Ghost Command headquarters, they battled ghosts and phantoms from fairy tales, present-day and future. Whether traveling through time and space in their transforming Ghost Buggy, or battling the evil spooks of Prime Evil at his Haunt-Quarters, the Ghostbusters would always answer the call to action with their battlecry "Let's Go Ghostbusters!" The battlecry much like He-Man's transformation scene, albeit to a lesser extent, was that scene in the show I always looked forward to, and never got tired of.
I almost didn't bother to watch Filmation's Ghostbusters back in first-run because [at the time] I felt it was trying to steal The Real Ghostbusters' thunder--which it was, sort of. It's all relative however as neither animated series would've been produced if it weren't for the success of 1984's "Ghostbusters" film. Columbia Pictures (who owned the film and spin-off cartoon) settled a lawsuit with Filmation for an undisclosed sum in order to use the title in the film, but that didn't preclude Filmation's own animated attempt to capitalize on poltergeist popularity. With all of that in mind, I did watch both shows in first-run and had found there to be plenty of ghostbusting fun to be had from both shows.
Hopefully, the folks at Sony who produced those infuriating Real Ghostbusters 4-episode volumes will take notes from BCI's Ink & Paint, and sometime soon package The Real Ghostbusters into a set as bountiful in episodes and extras as this Filmation Ghostbusters set.
Filmation's Ghostbusters - Volume One is a 6-disc set featuring the show's first 32 [of 65] episodes in Full-Frame (1.33:1) video, plus the following Special Features:

Though the Ghostbusters' live-action adventures came to a halt in 1989 with the release of Ghostbusters II, the characters created by Dan Akyroyd and Harold Ramis have enjoyed an extraordinarily long life in animation, with no less than three shows devoted to them. The Real Ghostbusters, which ran from 1986-1991, was the first and the best of the cartoon spin-offs. What set this series apart from most of the Saturday-morning fare was the quality of the stories, many of which were penned by J. Michael Straczynski (Babylon 5); the episodes took its spooks seriously, and made commendable efforts to retain the humorous tone of the feature films as well. Such qualities built a considerable fan base for the series, which continues (in cyberspace) to this day; however, said audience might not be too thrilled by the presentation on this disc and the two other Real Ghostbusters DVDs, which randomly compile four episodes from the show's seven seasons. Featured on Creatures of the Night are "Killerwatt" (a ghost takes over New York's electrical power), "Night Game" (Winston must play baseball to save a soul), "The Bird of Kildarby" (the 'busters battle a giant bird at a castle--in the middle of Manhattan), and "Lost and Foundry" (a ghost merges with a prototype steel). No other extras are included on the single disc, but for longtime fans of the series, having the show in any format is probably pleasant enough. --Paul Gaita

Ghostbusters.......2007-06-27
It wasn't the set of episodes I thought they were, but they were still good. I just hope they release more.
Get what ya get.......2007-05-09
I loved the Ghostbusters, but these DVD's don't seem to have the best episodes or that many of them at all.
If you like the show though, you won't be disappointed because they still are The Real Ghostbusters
Ghostbuster cartoons.......2007-03-22
I love these dvd's! brings me back to when i was a kid watching the real ghostbusters. The dvd only has 4 episodes which was a draw back, i don't really think they added the best episodes on any of these dvd's, but it's the original cartoon in dvd form, so it's all good!
THEY'RE BACK!.......2007-02-23
The Saturday morning animated follow up to the original Ghostbuster movie is here. Problem is there is no complete sets containing all of the '86-91 series, just random selects.
The "Real Ghostbusters" so called because FILMATION had the TV rights for the "Ghostbusters" name back from a live action-low budget Saturday morning show with Forest Tucker and Larry Scorch as bumbling ghost catchers, along with a guy in an ape suit. Filmation revised their concept after the unrelated Ivan Reitman film was a success, so there was briefly competing animated Ghostbuster cartoons. The REAL Ghostbusters succeeded inpart because it had all the recognizable props from the movie, the characters Ray, Egon, Winston and Peter Venkman. But chiefly, it boasted some of the best voice talent in TV animation: the great Maurice LaMarche(with loads of voice credits most recently working on the new FUTURAMA MOVIE for Dec of 2007) Arsenio Hall (so to be TV late night host), Frank Welker (of Scooby Doo fame as FRED) and Lorenzo Music, who is most famous as the voice of GARFIELD was ironicly replacing Bill Murray as Venkman, who would later serve as the new voice for the Cat in two feature films. The series also had some notable writers like Michael J. Straczynski of BABYLON 5 note.
Later after several seasons the series evolved into the SLIMER and the GHOSTBUSTERS show, featuring Slimers adventures before he meet the GBs.
This one features a bonus episode which happens to be the SECOND EPISODE for the cartoon series: Killerwatt. The animation is more polished on this one, more like the opening credits, all the way though. Later the time constraints would make future episodes less remarkable overall, except for Proton pack fights which tended to look glossy. Killerwatt is the story of a ghost who is possessing electrical appliances involving the boys in some dept. store battles and ultimately a big showdown with the power behind the possessions. Introducing the ECTO-2, a ghost-fightin' helicopter, the new bigger containment system and the multicolored GB uniforms (along with hair highlights for the crew, and a rat-tail for Spengler).
Also on this DVD Night Game (Field of Dreams meets Faust), the Bird of Kildarby (NYC castle haunting), Lost & Foundry.
Watch for "Ghosts-R-US" the series pilot, which starts with a shot at the cartoon ghostchasing rivalry by having some ghosts pretending to be "ghostbusters" in order to put the "real" ghostbusters out of business.
Maybe the 40 episodes of 1997 Extreme Ghostbusters will return in DVD form too.
Okay, now we want the boxed sets.......2006-04-13
I hope that Sony decides on doing boxed sets with The Real Ghostbusters. I also hope that they take the time to clean up the video because as it is, it looks almost like old VHS tapes. Other cartoon's from the 80's (some that were much inferior to RGB in both quality and popularity) have had very decent DVD releases.
While the shows on this DVD are all pretty good (specially Night Game and Lost and Foundry), there are many more, great episodes that must be put on DVD.

I love Bill Murray & Harold Ramis!!!.......2006-07-15
I must say that I love Stripes and Ghostbusters while Groundhog day isn't my favorite movie. I can still quote Stripes and some of Ghostbusters which greatly impressed my teenage son. These movies are super!!!!!! The team of Bill Murray & Harold Ramis is excellant. They really have a great chemistry whether it is acting together or whether Ramis is directing Murray. I highly reccomend these movies!!

Bring 'em all back!.......2007-02-27
I enjoyed these little Ghostbusters teasers, but like everybody else, I wish they would put out the whole thing. There were 7 seasons with tons of episodes & then later the Extreme Ghostbusters show. They were all funny & very well-written (even the Slimer shows from the later seasons). I'd buy all of them. If that other Ghostbuster show with the monkey is putting their lame stuff on DVD, it's time for the REAL Ghostbusters to do their thing. Box sets for every season, please!
Ghostbusters Season DVD set.......2007-02-18
I want to go ahead and officially start a petition of sorts that demands a season 1 DVD set of The Real Ghostbusters! Give us what we want SONY.
If you also agree and what to help this cause, just comment a response to this or say this review was helpful.
"It would take far too long to explain".......2006-08-15
The "Real Ghostbusters" DVD releases have been controversial among longtime fans of the show because they are not season boxed sets and contain only one or two of what are considered the best episodes of the series. Some fans have theorized that the best way to increase the likelihood of boxed set releases is to purchase the DVDs that are already out. What of the episodes themselves?
"The Real Ghostbusters -- Spooky Spirits"' weakest episode is its first, "Ghostbuster of the Year", which attempts to curry favor with intelligent children with its "clever" references to classic movies. Unfortunately, "Citizen Kane" was already one of the most referenced and parodied films of all time in 1986, and the ghost in this episode says "Rosebud" often enough that I wanted to strangle him if he said it one more time. The script also manages to make all the Ghostbusters except Winston unlikeable -- which doesn't really do Winston any favors. On the other hand, the final fate of the ghost is rather sweet, and the episode ends with a deliciously obscure "Ghostbusters" in-joke.
"The Revenge of Murray the Mantis" is substantially better, despite its rather low animation quality -- a problem with the majority of "Real Ghostbusters" episodes. The very nice scene where the Ghostbusters discuss the Murray the Mantis TV show is presumably intended as a self-referential acknowledgement of the series' adult viewers, but manages not to hit the viewer over the head with its cleverness. The reappearance of a certain character from the original movie has been criticized online as illogical and unexplained, but is very, very funny -- surely a sufficient justification.
"Drool, the Dog-Faced Goblin" was scripted by Linda Woolverton, who went on to much greater fame as one of the writers of Disney's "Beauty and the Beast" and "The Lion King". Unfortunately, for all you Shakespeareans out there, "Drool, the Dog-Faced Goblin" is to those two classic movies what "The Phoenix and the Turtle" is to "Romeo and Juliet" and "Hamlet". Despite some good lines and touches of characterization, the episode feels weakly constructed and rather pointless. The ending is oddly dark for Saturday morning television, and yet does not seem especially meaningful or artistically necessary -- one has the feeling that Woolverton simply couldn't think of any other way to resolve the story.
"Mr. Sandman, Dream Me a Dream" was written by J. Michael Straczynski, the story editor of the series and the future creator of "Babylon 5". It is probably the best of the four episodes -- certainly it is the most elaborate and rich, perhaps too rich for its own good. The episode is weakened by the villain's absurdly pretentious motivation, which feels especially whinily liberal given the relative stability of the times in which it was written. Winston's big speech to the villain is too sappily "Saturday-morning", and the climactic twist doesn't have the impact it should, perhaps again due to the quality of the animation. This is, nonetheless, a worthwhile episode.
Overall this DVD should be enjoyed by fans of the series, but inevitably fails to recapture the magic of the original "Ghostbusters" movie.
great, but..........2006-08-09
Sony just released these three discs to see if people would actually buy them, and i must say that this is great! i bought all three and am just waiting for the boxed sets to be released. Although there are no extras at all or subtitles (i love subtitles)i'd still recommend them and the boxed sets (if they come out anytime soon).
It's About Time We Saw This.......2006-03-29
Hardcore fans of the series will not be disappointed with this compilation, even though it is not the full boxed set that we have been begging for since 1992. The title of the compilation seems more worthy of a Scooby-Doo disc set, but don't let the title keep you from purchasing the disc. Each disc's episodes were selected around a theme, in this case, "spirits." The episodes appear the way they originally aired and do not appear to have been edited or cut. The images appear to have been retouched; the colors are somewhat more vibrant, but still keep the muted tones that marked the show. Although the characters' appearances on the front cover have ben updated, the artwork inside and on the disc remains the same.
My only complaint was the lack of special features and the lack of a foreign language track.
Younger children who did not grow up with the series may be somewhat frightened by the images and themes in some episodes.

Please release them all.......2006-10-14
Whereas I applaud the release of Ghostbusters in any form (the show lasted for SIX YEARS after all, thats a lot of fans), I wish the person who picked the episodes to be the first to be released had exercised a little more thought. All 3 DVDs follow the pattern of 1 ep from the ABC 1st season, and 3 eps from the syndicated 1st first season. The problem is that the syndicated eps, albiet there being about 3 times as many to choose from, are of drastically lower quality in both animation and storytelling. Far too many of them are 8 minutes of sparkling entertainment spread out over a half hour. With drab colors to boot. Not to say that they are all bad. A number of episodes were written by the creator of Babylon 5, J Michael Stakzynski, and by the creator of the Star Trek Tribble, David Gerrold. Any episode writtem by these guys is virtual white gold, and these should have been the first to be released, in order to show the general public how good this show was at its best.
A couple by each author does make it onto this first release, so thats so far so good. But even if it is a DVD necessity to include at least 3 syndicated episodes on one DVD, I would implore the people picking the eps to actually WATCH the eps first, for "Murray the Mantis," "Drool the DOg Faced GOblin" "Lost and FOundry" etc are C+ AT BEST, and there are plenty more syndicated eps not worthy to housetrain a dog with. But on the OTHER hand, "Cabinet of Calamari," "No one goes to Lupisville," "Knock Knock" "Collect Call of the Cthulu" are A+, and they can do a LOT worse than to release those.
In fact jsut release the show by season. Almost everything in the ABC 1st season is an A or better, and thank god that we got three of those episodes here with these 3 DVDs, (but once again "Killerwatt" wouldnt have been my first choice when there were so many better options such as "Citizen Ghost" and "When Halloween Was Forever," both written by, you know who, J Micheal Straczynski).
Make a THEMED DVD for next Halloween
When Halloween Was Forever from Season 1
Halloween 2 1/2 from Season 2
The Halloween Door from Season 4
and then surprise us, something like "Flip Side" to round it out (where the ghostbusters land in an alternate dimension where ghosts rule and people are thrown into containment units), or the Lupisville ep, where a town of werewolfs is at war with invading Vampires. A+ stuff, and EXACTLY what would get these DVDs to fly off the shelves. Tour the ghostbuster message boards for more suggestions.
Taking One for the Team.......2006-03-10
I took one for the team and purchased all the ghostbuster episodes Sony just released to send a signal that we want the full series out on DVD. Help support the cause by purchasing the DVD's so the Sony Execs will put out a series boxed set.
Good for its prize but Sony should release Complete Season Sets.......2006-03-10
Ok,I know that buying this the studio will see if customers are interested in the show but the Sony should make an effort and bring Complete Seasons sets.Fans will buy more sets even if prize is higher. This Dvd has many flaws. No commentary, special features.Image quality is bad in some episodes. But has CC and I have bought similar Dvds with 2,3 o 4 eps that hasn't any(cheap transfer and unknown studios)that hasn't any and had a higher prize.
Slimer.......2006-03-05
Ok this set is good if you are a slimer fan. Im not but I do love the show so im took one for the team and bought it so they sony would FINALY put the show on dvd. Its good quality and hey its somthing to feel my fix.... lol
Some fans just don't get it.......2006-03-01
These dvds could be the doorway to the full season sets. If you want to see season sets, then stop whining and BUY THESE DVDS. The more sales that Sony sees, the more of a chance that the market will catch their eye and finally give us what we want. If you don't buy the dvds, you're hurting the chances of seeing season sets. It's plain and simple. No sales means no market, and no market means WE GET NOTHING.
Stop whining and buy them, support the cause.
In terms of the dvds themselves, they are not that bad. 4 episodes on each disc isn't bad, considering the only alternative is either bootleg dvds or my old vhs tapes. Visually, it looks like it was cleaned up quite a bit. I wish there were extra features or something more than just episodes, but it's better than nothing!

--Tom Keogh
Customer Reviews:
A Classic '80's Comedy..........2007-05-24
They don't make them like this anymore. Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, and Ernie Hudson bring "Ghostbusters" to paranormal comedic heights. The movie starts with an ominous tone, but travels straight into comedy with one of the best comedy scenes ever with Bill Murray testing two university students for "the effects of negative reenforcement on ESP ability". The comedy (and the supernatural suprises) grow from there.
It's a fine example of comedy with a heart, with a soul. The kinds of comedy I wish was still around in movies today.
Better than Gremlins.......2007-04-19
I first saw this when I was about 7 to ten year of age and I have loved it since. They also have three epsiodes from the tv series for sale on line uou can get the these episodes all together at once for about 21 to 40 dollars with the shiping fee include maybe less if you get them used version of them and don't get them in like mint condition or better cause they charge more the better condition it's in. I bought this together with the sequel ghostbuster II yesterday at blockbuster for $18 with the tax included. Unfortunately I didn't realize until today that blockbuster ripped me of they charge me about 50% more than what amazon was charging. To be more precise amazon was only charging 8 to 12 dollars for the two of them together if you got them in decent conditon block buster charged me about 18$ dollars because they were in new condition and were not preused. This movie was a classic and had phonimal special effects for its time back in the 1980s when computer special effects were still somewhat primative compared to what they are in the newer movies like the Terbitha remake. You should watch this if you really like these actor especially Rick Moransis who unfoprtunately recently dieded unfortuantely do to and overdose to some kind of drug or something like that. A word of warning though this movie has some mild violence and scary images in it and some what heavy amount cursing compared to the amount that usually is modern pg rated movies. As a result of the following this movie might not be appropriate or maybe questionable to kids under the age of 12 depending on whhat the parents or guardianns thiks is appropriate for there age. If you like this I also recommend Gremlins I and II and the Criters quadriology if you are 13 years of age or older.
the perfect comedy hit.......2007-03-13
I find the movie highly entertaining, but what really knocks my socks off is how the script has many lines that incorporate the metaphysics of modern life better than any reality-based attempt to describe what life is like. The slim chance of success that "crossing the streams" produces, facing a gigantic "Stay Puft" marshmellow man, a building in New York City that is spook central, the "Get him out of here" line applied to a fruitbasket from the EPA, and the frightful technology of capturing ghosts after the first attempt in the New York City Public Library was so scary and the main character got slimed in the second attempt in a New York City hotel, the messes that everything created: all of it is still so apt.
Should have been Best Movie in 1984!.......2007-01-05
Great film. It got ripped off by not winning the oscar for best film of 1984. It was the best film that year.
A Gem. A Truly Special Movie........2006-12-08
1984's "Ghostbusters" is not only one of the greatest comedies, but one of the best movies ever made. Armed with an amazing cast of comedic talents, a solid storyline, and great special effects, "Ghostbusters" is a truly magical movie.
Three scientists, Pete Venkman (Bill Murray), Ray Stantz (Dan Aykroyd) and Egon Spengler (Harold Ramis), who specialize in paranormal activity, get fired from their jobs at a renowned New York college. Desparate for some dough, they start their own business, Ghostbusters. At firs, business runs a little slow, until a New York apartment dweller named Dana Barrett (Sigourney Weaver) discovers her refrigerator is a portal to a spiritual dimension ruled by the evil demon Zule. With news of this, their business takes off, as does a relationship with Dr. Venkman and Dana. However, when a sleazy social inspector named Walter Peck challenges the legal matters of their business, the Ghostbusters soon find their business out of operation, and it couldn't be at a worse time, as both Dana and her bumbling neighbor Louis Tully (the always wonderful Rick Moranis) have been possessed by these demons, who are now planning to destroy New York. It is up to the Ghostbusters to stop these dastardly demons before it's too late.
This is is an unforgettable movie. The performances, especially Murray's are wonderful. Never has any actor (with the exception of Weaver in the first two "Alien" movies) been better. The story and the special effects are dazzling, and this is definitely a film that belongs in your dvd collection.
