Description
Based on Alex Haley's best-selling novel about his African ancestors, Roots followed several generations in the lives of a slave family. The saga began with Kunta Kinte (LeVar Burton), a West African youth captured by slave raiders and shipped to America in the 1700s. The family's saga is depicted up until the Civil War where Kunte Kinte's grandson gained emancipation. Roots made its greatest impression on the ratings and widespread popularity it garnered. On average, 130 million - almost half the country at the time - saw all or part of the series.

Roots.......2007-06-29
I had forgotten how moving this film is! Great acting, well written characters and a shameful recounting of slavery.
Great story.......2007-06-29
What a story, I think it should be in schools, lest it's forgotten.
Roots(Four Disc 30th Anniversay Edition.......2007-06-27
Everyone should own this disc set. It is a good educational tool for children in helping them to understand how wrong slavery was and how much the black race had to suffer for their freedom. The story behind this saga is sad but it also shows the determination of the black race to survive through unbearable times.
Top Mini-Series of All-Time!.......2007-06-26
The stories, the actors, the emotion ... everything about this mini-series in awe-inspiring and just plain inspiring! I'll be watching it over and over again, especially with my kids!

At its core, Munich is a straightforward thriller. Based on the book Vengeance: The True Story of an Israeli Counter-Terrorist Team by George Jonas, it's built on a relatively stock movie premise, the revenge plot: innocent people are killed, the bad guys got away with it, and someone has to make them pay. But director Steven Spielberg uses that as a starting point to delve into complex ethical questions about the cyclic nature of revenge and the moral price of violence. The movie starts with a rush. The opening portrays the kidnapping and murder of Israeli athletes by PLO terrorists at the 1972 Olympics with scenes as heart-stopping and terrifying as the best of any horror movie. After the tragic incident is over and several of the terrorists have gone free, the Israeli government of Golda Meir recruits Avner (Eric Bana) to lead a team of paid-off-the-book agents to hunt down those responsible throughout Europe, and eliminate them one-by-one (in reality, there were several teams). It's physically and emotionally messy work, and conflicts between Avner and his team's handler, Ephraim (Geoffrey Rush), over information Avner doesn't want to provide only make things harder. Soon the work starts to take its toll on Avner, and the deeper moral questions of right and wrong come into play, especially as it becomes clear that Avner is being hunted in return, and that his family's safety may be in jeopardy.
By all rights, Munich should be an unqualified success--it has gripping subject matter relevant to current events; it was co-written by one of America's greatest living playwrights (Tony Kushner, Angels in America) and an accomplished screenwriter (Eric Roth); it stars an appealing and likeable actor in Eric Bana; and it was helmed by Steven Spielberg, of all people. While it certainly is a great movie, it falls just short of the immense heights such talent should propel it to. This is due more to some questionable plot devices than anything else (such as the contrived use of a family of French informants to locate the terrorists). But while certain aspects ring hollow, the movie as a whole is a profound accomplishment, despite being only "inspired by true events," and not factually based on them. From the ferocious beginning to the unforgettable closing shot, Munich works on a visceral level while making a poignant plea for peace, and issuing an unmistakable warning about the destructive cycle of terror and revenge. As one of the characters intones, "There is no peace at the end of this." --Daniel Vancini

Justifying Revenge.......2007-07-03
We have gotten awfully used to the defense of inaction in this country. From Kindergarten on, we are told to turn the other cheek, tell the teacher, sticks and stones... blah, blah, blah. Here, however, is another take on this dilemma, one terribly relevant, it would seem, in this time of arbitrary killings, defended by grinning thugs. We can wring our collective hands or we can act. This film takes on this subject in a time when America's revenge genre, the Western, has gone out of fashion. "Munich" really is "The Unforgiven" set in Europe. The killers are hunted down and killed in return. It's more or less as simple as that, but here one is asked to identify with the assassins and to ask oneself if it would be as easy as it may have seemed, in so many movies where the good guys catch up with the bad guys. It's a film built around an ethical issue, a real issue, it seems to me. The film is not fully satisfying, but it is hard to say why. The acting is fantastic. I came away thinking the ending was weak. The entire sequence is New York seemed soft and sentimental suddenly and out of keeping with the film. The screen play by Kushner has other weaknesses. For example, I had trouble accepting that these guys would be so amateurish. Each killing is botched, which, were the assassins American, would seem believable but, given that they are Israeli, the finest intelligence units the world, it seemed somehow contrived. The setting is great, the subject matter thankfully adult, and it is finally a political film, which is a rare and fine thing.
Lest We Forget.......2007-06-05
"They're all gone," intones sportscaster Jim McKay. McKay and other ABC news folks of 1972 have their TV footage mixed with a quick montage of violent filmed movie scenes of the '72 Olympics where 11 Israeli Olympians were massacred by the Arab Black September group.
Five men led by a young Israeli named Avner are assembled to revenge the massacre of the Munich Olympians. The Munich Avengers hook up with a family that has been in private intelligence since the Vichy Government ran France during World War Two. Lebel (Michael Lonsdale) is its patriarch. He becomes a sage to the Five. "Never work for any government" he warns. Well, its a little late to change that just now. At first everything goes swimmingly. The movie looks like other well made thrillers. These 'pros' who have never exactly done this kind of work in their lives 'seem' very successful.
Thriller afficionados will remember Michael Lonsdale as the French inspector who traced assassin Edward Fox across France in the Day of the Jackal 33 years ago. Older and heavier, Lonsdale is right at home as patriarch of the French family aiding the Israeli assassins in targeting their victims.
The Israelis find themselves sharing a room in Athens with five Arab Assassins but arrange a truce by convincing the Arabs they are part of the German Beider-Meinhof gang. Avner discusses middle east morality and politics with the Arab gang leader. Avner is seen by the audience as losing that argument. Later the forger has to 'fix' a foiled murder attempt in a hotel room. He is wounded. Several of the Arabs Avner's crew boarded with are killed in a gunfight outside. Carl (Cirian Hands) is murdered in bed later by a comely prostitute after Avner has turned the woman down. The Israeli avengers trace her to a Brussels houseboat where each fires a shot into her as she vainly attempts a seductive but grotesque striptease to save her life. An attempt to kill the architect of the Munich Murders is foiled when five Brits, posing as drunks, interfere. Avner's men are now aware they are being followed and watched. Who do the five Brits work for, the CIA or Britain's MI-6? The hunters are now the hunted.
The foiled Assassination perplexes and demoralizes. Their Israeli handler Ephraim calls Avner home to tell him their work is splendid. Not to them it isn't. Avner doesn't want to continue. He suspects they have killed Arabs not involved in Munich and balks at giving names and addresses of contacts to Ephraim. They discover the CIA has protection deals with some of their targets. The remaining Four don't know who is after them or for what. Two more die and a demoralized Avner and Steve(Daniel Craig) split up.
Afraid now, Avner flees to his wife and baby in Brooklyn. But unknown agents follow and scare him. Avener fears for his wife and child. He attacks a bureaucrat in the Israeli Mossad office in Manhattan. He is desperate now. Ephraim meets with him and admits some of the six killed were not Black September but old Israeli scores being settled. Avner won't cooperate with Israel now. And Ephraim won't help him if Avner doesn't agree to continue.
Except for a nightmare-freighted, overdone sexual episode between Avner and his wife, the film is effectively over. Spielberg and screenwriter Tony Kushner have carved this thriller into a political morality tale. The Israelis cannot assume the higher moral ground if they are as murderous as Black September. Every act of revenge sews the seeds of more violence and death. What is the point of that, ask the Authors? An Arab character argues with Avner that the Jews in Israel are outnumbered by the Arab populations that are all around them and growing in numbers much faster than the Israelis. The Authors are saying the Israelis will never win, that time is on the side of the Arabs. Israel will not win and will not survive.
I agree with them. The American War in Iraq will not succeed either. Americans and Israelis will both lose because the Arabs are fighting for their homeland. The Americans, and the Israelis who claim THEY are fighting for their homeland, cannot succeed.
Spielberg and Kushner have loaded the dice too heavily here. Avner and his four henchmen have an underlying innocence about international terrorism calculated to buttress this story and its moral. But would the Israelis really have chosen such a bunch of innocent plebes to carry out a mission as cynical, dangerous and important as this one? Its a great story but it won't play in Bagdhad, Tel Aviv or Peoria not to mention on the big screen.
Spielberg clarifies on the DVD.......2007-06-04
What I watched was the single-disc widescreen edition which contained no DVD extras but for a short intro by the director Steven Spielberg. If you haven't seen the movie before, I recommend you leave the intro for after you've finished watching the film.
In his piece, Spielberg emphasizes that the movie is neither attacking Israel nor arguing for non-response. He says that in the context of responding to terror today, we have to "try and ensure that the results we produce are the ones we really intend." I think he was successful in getting that point across in this movie.
I usually prefer knowing as little as possible about the background of a film's story, so that I can enjoy it in its "pure" form. But I think I benefited from having seen One Day in September, the documentary about what happened during the 1972 Olympics. I recommend you see it before this film. (Makes chronological sense that way...)
Spielberg acknowledges taking the indisputable facts (11 targets, decision by Golda Meir...) from George Jonas's book Vengeance, published in 1984 and recently re-issued. The details are of course unknowable and it's those gaps in knowledge that made possible the effective dramatization of the material.
Well done, but has flaws........2007-05-30
I was very curious to see this chapter of history. The story of the 11 Israeli athletes getting killed by Palestinian terrorists and the story that followed. I feel the actors chosen to play the characters couldn't have been better and the movie itself was incredible. However I feel the message that was sent to the movie going public was the incorrect one. (Caution: when I say incorrect I don't mean untrue)
Right now we are living in a very controversial time where the situation in the Middle East is a very sensitive subject. I am one who wants to see peace, but with the violence escalating every day we are far from reaching that goal. What people need to understand is that only one side wants peace and unfortunately `Munich' did not elaborate on that enough. The Israeli task force is depicted to be just as uncaring as the Palestinian extremist groups in this movie. (Never do they show actual Palastinans that truly want peace). In the beginning the message is to kill the plotters of the Munich murders and in the end the Israelis are leaving bodies uncovered in shame and the main character gives up his love for his homeland. The scene where Eric Bana's character sees himself fighting along side the terrorists is an absolute disgrace. The pieces of the movie that should have been elaborated more were the people they were killing. These were Palestinian officials high in power living far away from the Palestinian hostage camps in lavish mansions and accepting money from all different governments just to keep the violence going. Those are actual living breathing people in the P.L.O. that are still alive today. The should have made it more clear that the mission was to kill the terrorists and not to hurt the innocent Palestinians like the women and children as well as Palestinian men that had nothing to do with assassinating Jewish people.
Is this movie good...yes it is a brilliant film worthy of its credit. Will is be nominated for awards...absolutely. I don't think that Spielberg displayed anything untrue in this movie. He did however show more sympathy towards the wrong side. I believe his message was to say he wants peace and the only way to show that was that both sides shedding blood constantly would only make it worse and there never will be peace. I feel there is nothing wrong with showing there are two sides fighting and only one side wants peace. If the world can understand that there are certain people (not a nation) that don't then the true evils in this world will be wiped out and there finally will be peace.
Speilberg made the movie he set out to make when he chose 'Vengeance'.......2007-05-27
Steven Spielberg took a lot of flack for "Munich," which he admits is neither pro-Israeli nor pro-Palestinian. From Spielberg, I suppose many expected - or wanted - something more ardently Zionist. But Spielberg cast the die when he decided on George Jonas' Vengeance: The True Story of an Israeli Counter-Terrorist Team as his source material. Vengeance's point of view - and its tortuous history - is predicated on the moral ambivalence of 'Avner,' the pseudonym of the team leader, as played on-screen here by an excellent Eric Bana. I read "Vengeance" a couple of months prior to seeing the film, and my feeling is that Spielberg accurately captured Avner's feelings as well as his metamorphosis. The one thing that got left out was Avner's complex relationship with his Dad, who - in the book - essentially foretells Avner's denouement at the outset.
Jonas' book is controversial. There are ongoing disputes over its inherent accuracy to the point where people doubt the essence of the story or whether an 'Avner' actually existed. In the most recent release - coinciding with the film - Richard Ben Cramer writes a nice new introduction with a pithy comment that the debate has evolved to the point where the essence of the argument is people now saying "Hey, my part in the movie wasn't big enough."
There are some nice surprises in the film including a pre-Bond breakout appearance by Daniel Craig as part of Avner's team, as well as appearances by first-rate Israeli Arab actors Makram Khoury and Hiam Abbass. It goes without saying that their roles here are all too brief (it belabors the point to mention why). I suggest you see The Syrian Bride to see these two talented professionals in top form. There's also the inclusion of a way-inside joke of encountering future Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak - dressed in very unconvincing drag - prior to a raid in Lebanon.

Bones, Muscles and Joints--As Well As the Digestive & Circulatory Systems.......2007-06-08
I homeschool (unschool) my son, and the Magic School Bus series is GREAT for teaching kids science. We have 4 DVD sets and a few VHS's.
If you're unfamiliar with the premise, the central characters are Ms. Frizzle (a teacher), her class, Liz the lizard and the Bus. Ms. Frizzle takes her class on crazy field trips, where Bus--and sometimes the kids!--experience a transformation so they can get closer to the action. (For example, become a bee or turning into water droplets.)
One of our most recent purchases was The Human Body and it's excellent as always. These three episodes cover various aspects of the human body:
*For Lunch - The digestive system
*Inside Ralphie - The circulatory system
*Flexes Its Muscles - Bones, Muscles and Joints
There is also a peek inside Map of the Human Body for kids to explore.
This CD runs about 80 minutes and is supposedly geared towards children 3-8. Personally, I think the age-appropriate range is more like 6-10 because of the complex concepts introduced.
However, if younger kids enjoy it--more power to them! It certainly can't hurt to introduce science to younger kids if the Magic School Bus holds their interest.
My 8-year old son really enjoys the series now (he didn't get into it when he was younger), so I use the Magic School Bus series to supplement our learning/experimenting with science principles. And, my son seems to love The Human Body; in fact, he's watching it right now!
Awesome as usual!!!.......2007-05-14
My son has just about all of these and we LOVE them!! I'm always just as excited to watch them as my 5 year old!!! They are very educational and fun to watch!!
all the rage, but I have no idea ..........2007-02-12
I don't know what all the excitement about the Magic School Bus is but I bought it regardless, because of the positive reviews. I put the DVD to play, but then noticed that it was beyond, above my daughter's level, and decided to play it for her at a later age. She was 34 months old, but I believe I should wait until she is about 4? I'll see...
It looks good, but still not sure what the rage is about. My ratings is based on what others have said.
great educational and entertaining.......2007-01-12
So far one of the best, worth every penny. My four year old loved it and learned a lot with this DVD
Another great work from the Magic School Bus series.......2007-01-09
My kids, aged 6 and 4, love this series. This is another DVD that they enjoy. They definitely learn as they watch which is an added bonus.

This CD runs about 82 minutes and is supposedly geared towards children 3-8.
MSB Always Winners.......2007-01-19
The Magic School Bus books are true treasures. They are fun and packed with great scientific information explained in a way that kids can really understand. The shows are great adaptations of the books and the original story lines very good too. My kids love the Magic School Bus and this video is no exception!
Bugs, Bugs, Bugs.......2007-01-18
Ms. Frizz is just wonderful in anything. A great educational experience for the young audiences and just plain fun for the older students.
Quenching that yearning for learning through entertainment.......2006-08-20
The Magic School Bus created some of the finest products for instruction, while completely disguising this fact to many of its young learners. Children exposed to the vast array of offerings in the field of science at young ages are still in possession of this information today. The original manner in which the students contribute information via their personalities and curiosity mix with our children's own natural instinctive curiosity about the world in which we live. Topics from this series include concepts as specific as mold and the manner in which it can help and hinder us, to as broad as the vast solar system, and systems beyond. Bugs, Bugs, Bugs is a title uniquely dedicated to the many insects and their many purposes common to our world. The only downside is that the series has apparently long been discontinued.
Loved It.......2006-07-11
My son got this for his 4th birthday and he watches it over and over. He just loves this series.

The Magic School Bus heads for the sky and Ms. Frizzle's elementary school students learn all about flying and outer space in this trio of episodes. In "Magic School Bus Gets Lost in Space," a class field trip to the planetarium goes awry, so Ms. Frizzle heads the bus toward outer space for a tour of the planets in our solar system. Arnold's cousin Janet quickly exchanges skepticism for awe and becomes obsessed with gathering proof of her space travels--a quest that ultimately sets Ms. Frizzle floating loose in outer space. The gang returns to space to destroy an asteroid headed for their school in "Out of This World," learning all about orbits, comets, and asteroids along the way. Finally, the class discovers how air movement and wing design affect flight when they take a ride in Wanda and Tim's experimental remote-controlled airplane in "Taking Flight." DVD extras include an interactive "field trip" with onscreen facts about the planets in our solar system; English, French, or Spanish languages; and a DVD-ROM space adventure maze and instructions for building a mobile of the solar system. LOUIE ANDERSON!!!.......2007-06-22
He was unbelievably brilliant in this movie!! His performance in this film was the best acting in the history of the universe and living things!! It is great. It is a billion times better than Howard Hesseman in "Flight of the Navigator." Anderson is in charge of making french fries at McDowell's Fast Food Restuarant." His best acting is when the place is robbed. He acts so calm. Incredible. He lets the robber call him a "fatboy" hahaha. I also loved the scene where the Lionel Ritchie lookalike pushes Louie and causes him to spill a milkshake. It is great. Louie Anderson is a genius. This movie would be nothing without his outstanding gift of acting brilliance. I saw his performance and I felt like "break dancing" hahaha. Lionel Ritchie stunk in the film. Eddie Murphy plays a billion roles but none of them compare to Mr. Andersons hahaha. Arsenio Hall was funny in his role and so was Darth Vader. The cab driver's language was very rude and unacceptable. I wouldn't get into a cab driven by such an foul-mouthed fool lol.
Classic comedy finally gets a much needed DVD upgrade-it's about time!.......2007-06-06
Any fan of this film who has owned the previous bare-bones edition knows that it has been in much need of a better DVD for years and years, and now finally it's here. I don't see the point of rehashing the plot, because if you're reading this now, you most likely already know it (and if you don't, just buy the film anyway - you can't go wrong).
First off, here are the extra features:
-Prince-ipal Photography: The Coming Together of America
-Fit For Akeem: The Costumes of "Coming To America"
-Character Building: The Many Faces of Rick Baker (as the title suggests, this is a segment on the makeup effects used for the multiple characters played by Eddie and Arsenio).
-Composing America: The Musical Talents of Nile Rodgers
-A Vintage Sit-Down with Eddie and Arsenio (note: this interview was conducted in 1989 as a promotion for the film and is NOT a recent interview, for those of you wondering). It's still good though, and it says that it was never released until now.
-Trailer
-Photo Gallery
This new DVD also offers a very nice transfer, and I bet it looks even better on the HD-DVD version. My only complaint is that there are some "forced" previews at the beginning before the main menu appears, which one must fast-forward through. So buyer beware.
But all in all this new DVD edition blows the previous one out of the water. Highly recommended!

Cinderella Man is a wholesome slice of old-fashioned Americana, offering welcomed relief from the shallowness of many summer blockbusters. In dramatizing the legendary Depression-era comeback of impoverished boxer Jim Braddock, director Ron Howard benefits from another superb collaboration with his A Beautiful Mind star Russell Crowe, whose portrayal of Braddock is simultaneously warm, noble, and tenacious without resorting to even the slightest hint of sentimental melodrama. The desperate struggle of the Depression is more keenly felt here than it was in Seabiscuit, and Howard shows its economic impact in ways that strengthen the bonds between Braddock, his supportive wife (Renée Zellweger) and three young children, and his loyal manager (Paul Giamatti); all are forced to make sacrifices leading up to Braddock's title bout against heavyweight champion Max Baer (Craig Bierko) in one of greatest boxing matches in the history of the sport. Boasting the finest production design, cinematography and editing that Hollywood can offer, this is a feel-good film that never begs for your affection; it's just good, classical American filmmaking, brimming with qualities of decency and fortitude that have grown all too rare in the big-studio mainstream. --Jeff Shannon
Customer Reviews:
Rarely does a film come around so effortless in its emotional power and ability to raise our spirits..........2007-06-22
Russell Crowe completely devours his role in this impressive depression era biopic about boxer James Braddock. His steely dedication to his character comes across with every minor shift of his facial expressions and impresses upon the audience a sense of pain and oppression wrapped in the warmth and appreciation that only a true master of his craft would be able to deliver. Crowe has truly honed his craft over the past few years and has developed into arguably our finest working actor, and that's a fact I'm more than willing to argue! Here, in one of his finest performances since his work in `The Insider' Crowe is able to transcend the screen and create a character that the audience can feel for, embrace and comfort and most importantly a character that the audience wants to embrace and comfort. James Braddock is one of the most likable screen heroes in recent years.
The film follows Braddock's fall from the top, a big home and a successful career till he finds himself living in destitution, relying on a prayer to get enough work throughout the week to feed his three children and keep his family warm. Standing by his side through it all is his loving and supporting wife Mae, played by Renee Zellweger with the same effortless dedication found in Crowe. Braddock struggles along trying to instill morals and faith in his children despite their horrible circumstances, and that's what makes this man so appealing. When his son is caught stealing some food he still finds it important to teach his son the difference between right and wrong, making him return the food regardless of how much they could have used it. They would survive, and they would do that with their morality in tact.
Braddock finally gets his chance at redemption when he reteams with his former manager Joe Gould, played with fire and fervor by Oscar nominee Paul Giamatti who is just having a great breakthrough with his career lately. Although times are hard and Braddock is far from the shape he was in while in his prime he still manages to capture the hearts of those in the community and eventual scores a fight against Max Baer, a ruthless fighter known for killing in the ring. Mae is opposed and fearful of the outcome but James is determined to follow through and come out the victor. The final fight is so brilliantly directed and choreographed that I'm still baffled at Howard's exclusion from the official Oscar race. This is truly his finest film and his most effective performance behind the camera.
The supporting cast is top notch as well. From Craig Bierko's cocky and self-important Baer to Paddy Considine's troubled neighbor, all involved put in a good effort and elevate this film beyond the competition. One of my favorite supporting performances of the bunch must go to Bruce McGill who just stole his scenes with his infectious anger and selfishness. Paul Giamatti attacked his role with equal parts passion and integrity and comes off memorable and important, and Zellweger masters the entire look, feel and temperance of the era beautifully, but it's Crowe above all else who deserves the praise and recognition for his powerhouse performance.
The uplifting and inspirational story of James Braddock will bring tears to your eyes and warm your heart as you watch this man put his family and his community before self. Scenes where he offers his daughter his breakfast will leave you choked up and scenes where he pleads for a helping hand with his hat in his hand are especially effective and will have you balling like a baby, at least I was. Howard and company beautifully capture the time, the place and the heart of this story and deliver one of the finest sports dramas in recent years. `Cinderella Man' proves to be a complete and utter joy from beginning to end and a most memorable movie watching experience.
A Beautiful Compelling Sports Film.......2007-06-22
When I saw the previews for Cinderella Man I thought it was an attempt to use the formula from SeaBisquiet, (underdog to hero in the depression era.) It turned out to be a much better movie for a lot of reasons. First and foremost the boxing sequences are realistic and compelling. Second Russell Crowe is absolutely convincing and credible as a man literally fighting to save his family from the ravages of the depression. Ron Howard did an amazing job on this film and it succeeds as a human interest story , an historical drama and as a great boxing film. The supporting cast is great. A truly fine production.
somebody up there likes him, but it sure aint me.......2007-06-11
director ron howard summons the kleenex yet again, this time in a phony movie about the depression. i dont like boxing movies; i dont like subtly anti-semitic movies; i dont like russell crowe movies; i DO like opie taylor, but go back to mayberry and stop inflicting this "significant" garbage on the public.
maybe Opie Cunningham still has worthwhile movies in him (as long as he's got Gentle Ben on the payroll).......2007-05-14
My main problem with a Ron Howard film is often its oversimplicity for the sake of movie formula. Take _A Beautiful Mind_--the portrayal of Nash's schizophrenia was far more simplified than its actual manifestation, so Howard sacrificed a chance at some true expression of the complexities of reality for cheap pops, Hollywood-style. I haven't yet bothered with _The DaVinci Code_, but this movie gives me (just slight) hopes for it.
In the case of this movie, Howard's naive sense of simplicity actually works out for him. The power of Jim Braddock's comeback during the Great Depression is its simplicity and its metaphor for the country at that time--a once promising fighter falls on hard times, and follows is his story of resurgence against great odds.
But of course, the story wouldn't work in the end if not carried by some stunning performances...and this is what REALLY carries this film along. Russell Crowe is almost obscenely good in this as a simple man who quite simply finds his purpose in life, and this makes all the difference. Renee Zellweger is wonderful as Braddock's wife, and of course don't forget the common man's gift to movies, Paul Giamatti as Braddock's manager.
But I have a theory now going...I am wondering if the only good Ron Howard movies are the ones where he gives his brother, Clint, a job. Clint Howard has only appeared in bit parts in Ron Howard movies, but it seems that giving his brother some work may be a sign of a kinder, gentler Ron Howard who is out to make a decent movie rather than a Hollywood-esque bomb. I haven't done full research on this idea yet, but I think I may be on to something.
:).......2007-04-10
I am not a fan of boxing movies. I'm not a fan of the sentimental underdog story. I am not a fan of period movies that hack out all the hard times of the Great Depression. But I loved this movie.

Never Gets Old.......2007-07-03
Well like the other reviewers we love this DVD at our house. My 2.5 year old daughter asks for it over and over, and her older cousins like to watch it at our house, too. Each tale involves rain in some way but it's a nice variety of characters and story lines and holds my daughter's attention the whole time. We did not like Little Bear - Little Bear's Band (see my review of it for details) or The Little Bear Movie (a few parts were too scary) as much as Rainy Day Tales. As a mother of two in a small apartment, what the kids watch over and over, I watch over and over, and I'm very happy to have found a DVD that does not get on my nerves, no matter how much it's played. In fact, I even enjoy it.
