Who doesn't enjoy watching big things fall to pieces? Category 7: The End of the World wreaks havoc on the Eiffel Tower, Mt. Rushmore, the Pyramids, and a midwestern trailer park, among other things. More or less a sequel to Category 6: Day of Destruction (presumably the latest in a series that began with Category 1: Don't Forget Your Umbrella), Category 7 offers the reassuring sight of Gina Gershon, skilled with disasters like Showgirls, taking control of the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Confronted with city-destroying weather, she calls in rebel meteorologist Ross Duffy (Cameron Daddo, star of such classics as Pterodactyl and Anthrax), who runs the Extreme Weather Lab and harbors theories that threaten the political status quo. Ross brings in Tommy Tornado (Randy Quaid, the sole returning actor from Category 6), Faith Clavell (Shannen Doherty, Charmed), and Col. Mike Davis (Tom Skerritt, Alien) to gather data...which isn't the most dramatic of activities (even when it involves souped-up cars and superjets), so the movie adds a subplot about a religious zealot (Nicholas Lea, The X-Files) who wants to unleash the plagues of Egypt so that everyone will realize it's the End of Days. What does it all add up to? A lot of over-the-top hooey (and that's not including the assorted family turmoils), but pretty entertaining nonetheless. It's like a lesser Michael Crichton novel: Take an inflammatory vaguely scientific premise, add two-dimensional characters, cheesy but spectacular effects, and a full-throttle if nonsensical plot, and presto! Over three hours of silly yet utterly watchable television. For added fun, drink a shot every time one character tells another "You're the most important person on the planet right now." --Bret Fetzer

Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars A dissapointment after Category 6 ............2007-06-13

Some movie sequels out-do those that precede them, but this ain't one of them.

The saving graces of Category 7 are superb performances by Tom Skerritt and Sebastian Spence, bigger and better city-eating storms, and being given the answer to the question left dangling at the end of Category 6 (the storms do continue world-wide and the reason why is discovered and applied successfully, albeit after much silly political wrangling).

Beyond these three things, this sequel disappointed me in every other aspect. The many (*too* many) ridiculous mini-dramas were annoyingly distracting rather than adding any amount of depth to the storyline. The performances of the majority of actors cast left much to be desired. And I think that Tornado Tommy (Randy Quaid) held together much better in Category 6 ... that fantastic twister ride he took last time apparently dropped him in Oz and scrambled his brains but good. He'd have been much better off remaining happily ensconced in Munchkinland, in my opinion.

Okay, Category 7 continues the story begun in Category 6. That would be the main reason to see it and why I watched it (though I ended up impatiently sighing my way through a whole lot of stupid sub-plots waiting for the grounding appearances of Tom Skerritt and Sebastian Spence ).

Not the worst movie sequel I've ever seen, but most definitely quite far from the best.

4 out of 5 stars Category 7 End of The World.......2007-05-25

This movie is good I liked it but there is one thing wrong with it the ending is cut short the last thing that you see is the Torch of
The Statue of Liberty coming down on two people and that is it. It states to be continued where? there is nothing else that's it this is where it ends it is supposed to be part of a Mini-Series or so it states and it is supposed to be complete don't be fooled it's not complete where is the rest of it you don't just leave people hanging on waiting for the rest of it. This is a good one to have along with Category 6 I have both
but Cate 7 is not finished or is there another one to this one? Who knows?

4 out of 5 stars Good movie.......2007-02-15

Category 7 was interesting and had many good points. It holds you at the end of your seat. My only disappointment is that most of the characters from Category 6 was not in Category 7 - especially the reporter and the secretary of energy that were in Category 6.

5 out of 5 stars Have 2 of 3 in series.......2007-02-12

We own Day of Destruction, and Category 6. oth movies should make people realize accually what we are doing to earth. These storms can happen. Randy Quaid is awesome and as usuall, a great performance. Wake up world, any of these situations can happen. Watch and learn before it's to late.

4 out of 5 stars Really Cool,I Liked It!.......2007-02-03

I haven't seen any of the others in this series, butI really enjoyed this one. The special effects are awesome, and I really liked all the storylines, and the characters are well developed. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars,is because it isn't a movie that I would want to watch again, but that is because of my preferrences and so much going on,just seemed too "over the top" for me. No offensive elements here either. Definately worth a view.

Full of suspense. Held my sixth-grade class' attention. It made me hungry to see the next episode of the Intercepter.

5 out of 5 stars Great show.......2007-01-22

I managed to catch this on the National Geographic channel recently. It has lots of great tornado footage with some science thrown in for fun. Anyone fascinated by the beauty and destructive power of tornadoes (like me) would enjoy this DVD. Also, watching an armored car drive directly into a vortex is definitely worth a look.

5 out of 5 stars Interesting, funny, crazy, cool.......2006-08-08

My son loves all kinds of bad weather, but tornadoes are his all-time favorite. He got this DVD from my brother for a gift, and we watch it at least 3 times a week. It's great for the kids yet interesting enough to hold the adult audience's attention. The contrast between Josh and Sean is a fantastic way to show how widespread the fascination with lousy weather can be.

5 out of 5 stars funny movie.......2007-05-07

I find this show very funny and a good movie to watch for everyone.

4 out of 5 stars More of Erika Eleniak, please..........2006-08-27

Chasers brings to the screen the story of a sailor, who one day before getting his discharge papers is ordered to escort a prisoner from a U.S. Marines base to a military prison.
Tom Berenger and William McNamara are pretty weak and unconvincing in their respecting roles. The latter, especially, has to deal with playing a not very likable character as well.
In short, the music is great, the plot/setting is interesting, while the dialogues and the acting are average and sometimes below average, and then there is Erika Eleniak. WOW!!! As others have also pointed out, this film is indeed all about Erika Eleniak.
In a nutshell, it's probably not a movie you would want to add to your collection, but it will provide for an evening's entertainment. 3.5 Stars

4 out of 5 stars Well, I liked it enough to keep it! .......2006-01-07

I guess being a big Berenger fan influenced my opinion of this little flick. I got quite a few laughs out of it and, even tho he is a consummate ham, William McNamarra sure is cute! Took me a long time to finally buy this DVD, but it is a keeper for me. Tom does his usual great job of being nasty/sweet and Elena Eleniak turned out to be a surprise - in more ways than one. All the cameos were fun and seeing Hopper duded out as a sleaze was really great. All in all, 101 minutes of pretty good comedy and I even enjoyed the views of the tacky southern
real estate - ouch!

3 out of 5 stars It was alright.......2005-01-18

It's not a good movie. It's not a bad movie. It's just a movie worth watching to pass the time. It was a comedy and I didn't laugh but it held my interest. I thought the sex scene with the girl who has one eyebrow didn't fit well in the movie but what the heck?

4 out of 5 stars If you don't think too much, you'll enjoy it.......2004-03-11

This is certainly not a movie for the mind or for the soul. I won't even try to list the logical problems with this one, as my quota of 1000 words would just get me warmed up :-) Suffice it to say that if you are looking for a well-knit storyline that holds itself together, about turn right now.

On the other hand, if you have an hour to fritter away and are not in a particularly picky/discriminating mood, give this one a shot. You might be surprised to find yourself grinning more often than you expected to :-)

My only kudos to Dennis Hopper is his choice of Tom Berenger. This is one heck of a good thespian, and he shines, even when cast in an otherwise silly, non-entity of a movie. Sure, Erika gets her share of attention, but mostly when she's baring it. And McNamara, well, I can't remember any other movie he was in, so I'll just say he has latent talent. A little too cute for this role, maybe.

You've probably read other reviews, so I won't bore you with a detailed storyline. Tom and McNamara are Navy guys sent to escort a prisoner from a Marine detention center. Turns out that the prisoner is a woman (Erika) and a slippery one at that. Several travails follow. Erika and McNamara fall for each other. Tom eventually helps the couple make off to Mexico or somewhere. Like I said, suspend your belief, all ye who enter here :-)

Tom plays his part to perfection, as the gruff, hardboiled, no-nonsense, sardonic military guy. I can't see anyone else better suited to this role. Watch out for a couple of hilarious scenes, when they land up at the marine detention center, and when they take a detour on their way back to base. Pretty funny 'camaraderie' too, with McNamara and a couple of sailor pinheads who want nothing more than to yank his chain.

Summary - with a couple of beers to help, what the heck, I think I actually enjoyed it!

4 out of 5 stars Very Informative.......2007-01-10

Excellent footage, scene set up, and computer graphics. You are "there" for each event. The computer graphics allow you to "see" what is happening beneath the surface during an earthquake, as well as educating you on volcanic activity. The narrative was very informative, however for some inexplicable reason the volume starts dropping at a certain point for a few minutes. A tad annoying, but easily fixed, though you might miss the first few words. There could be a tendency, when putting together a film like this, to over-dramatize, however, the filmmakers resist and we get a reasonable presentation of the facts. I would highly recommend this well done documentary. Be sure to watch the bonus features.

2 out of 5 stars Not enough.......2005-03-10

This video is very short and doesn't have a lot of content. Thier are some great sceens but overall its nothing you havn't seen before. I would have liked to see some avalanches and better explanations of all natural disasters with more depth.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent!!.......2005-01-12

3 out of 5 stars TWISTERVILLE.......2005-02-23

DEVIL WINDS is full of all the cliches you expect in this kind of movie: a tornado expert miscalls a tornado and loses his wife in the process; a buxom up and coming reporter wants to make it to the bigtime; a new viral investigation clinic is built and may be in the path of a horrible twister, but the director vows to keep things going; and the hero has a daughter who blames him for her mother's death and doesn't want anything to do with him. But still, DEVIL WINDS succeeds due to a pleasant cast and computer-generated tornadoes that are pretty awesome, even if they don't look totally real. It's a movie and for a lower budgeted film, the fx team does okay. Joe Lando (Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman, Combustion) does a staunch job as the hero and Baywatch's Nicole Eggert, looking a little heftier and unglamorous than usual, does okay too. Not as high quality as TWISTER, but still entertaining.

5 out of 5 stars Great Movie.......2004-08-14

I rented this movie with Net Flix and it is a great movie. I'm definitely going to buy this in the future. I love storms and I found this an entertaining movie. You can tell the tornados were computer generated and didn't look like they do in real life, but I'm not a picky person and I still found them to look real enough. The movie "Twister" that everyone is familiar with had more realistic looking tornados, but "Devil Winds" is still a great movie. I liked the characters, the story, etc. Great movie!

5 out of 5 stars Devil Winds Blows You Away.......2004-07-01

I just got my DVD of Devil Winds and it is awesome. Joe Lando(Dr. Quinn, Higher Ground) is still a hottie. The storyline is very plausible and the CGIs look like a real tornado was happeining. The chemistry between Pete (Joe) and Julia (Nicole Eggert) could have been explored more, but there is alot of action to make up for it. If you like "disaster" type movies, I think this one will become a favorite to watch.

1 out of 5 stars Sick, and designed to destroy childhood.......2006-07-02

These cartoons are designed to destroy childhood. The stories contain nothing of any value. The characters are carefully crafted to destroy your child's ability to think, empathise, and imagine a world outside of their own. Hence we have a generation of children who are selfish, bratty, and unable to feel for others, and all helped along by Sponge Bob Squarepants, and rubbish like this.
Whatever happened to decent children's programmes? Here's a clue: he who controls the media, controls the world. And he who controls CHILDREN's media really controls the world. These cartoons are a joke - no responsible parent would let their children watch such rubbish, and no child with any imagination, or a grain of empathy left in them, would even want to watch such drivel. God help us all.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic for Kids or Parents.......2006-03-17

Kids will definitely enjoy this...but parents, especially those who remember all the television cartoons of their childhood, will especially enjoy this episode.

this follows the same quality of KND which means these kind of drawings weren't made for action sequences. Plus the storyline is completley stupid. The voice actiong is horrible and the action is stipid. Come on Butch, if yoou want to make an action cartoon, at least use comic book drawings that look real instead of unreal cartoons. If you want an action cartton, go buy a japenese cartoon or a movie, not these

The power of tornadoes, hurricanes, hailstorms, and other severe weather serve as a reminder that, despite technological advances, there are elements of nature that still have us at their mercy. Stormchasers follows the meteorologists who put their lives in danger to chart and research severe storms. A group of scientists drive hundreds of miles per day to chase down tornadoes in the Midwest, lingering until the last possible second when they actually encounter a twister. Weather Service personnel send an airplane through the middle of Hurricane Emily, with everything that can be shaken loose inside the plane tethered down for the rough ride. The "making of" segment of Stormchasers documents the crew's hair-raising experiences as they placed themselves directly in the path of danger and doubted their own sanity for doing so. Interestingly, the filmmakers were forced to manufacture a monsoon when shooting in India; the results were convincing indeed. Originally shot in large format for IMAX theaters, Stormchasers gives the formation of menacing storms a beautifully lyrical quality and goes a long way toward explaining the weather phenomena that shape our lives. --Jerry Renshaw

Weather is one of the most evolving and exciting areas of science, one that we experience every day. 1 out of 5 stars Pass on this one. . ........2005-10-03

This was a very disappointing DVD. IMAX has some great stuff but this was NOT one of them. The additional "Making footage" adds to the disappointment. 1. They mentioned how they had to make their own monsoon. This is moderately amusing until you learn (in the "making") that India was in the middle of a drought and they had tons of water trucked in to satisfy a deskbound producer who insisted they do it. 2. Wow, a plane flying through a hurricane. Great footage of the pilots looking out the windows at. . .white. Should you be impressed by the crew bouncing around? Not really. Especially when they pull back (again, during the "making") from the bouncing crew member to find a cameraman/technician lying down kicking his chair. Why? Because, (chuckle chuckle) the frames for the IMAX cameras are so good you can't really tell the crew is bouncing. . . . ? The footage from the glider sent to snag lightning is pretty darn good, but that is the only plus I give this DVD. In conclusion, don't waste your money.

4 out of 5 stars Good.......2005-03-05

This is good for what it is - a short IMAX film about stormchasing. Most IMAX films are 45 minutes or less, so a viewer should not be expecting a real-life two hour version of Twister. It also covers a lot of material, so it doesn't go into depth. Also, the team fails to see tornadoes and then when they get one, they run out of film (this often happens in IMAX because they can only shoot something like 90 seconds at a time). Overall, though, pretty good.

3 out of 5 stars Great Sound Does Not Cut It!.......2002-01-02

As a severe storm lover, I eagerly awaited this DVD. The opening sceen starts out wonderful with beautiful DTS sound. Then it quickly goes down hill from there. It interviews a few "Hurricance Experts" and chasers, shows video of them flying through the eyewall of Hurricane Emily. From there, well it really does not show much more on Hurricanes. Then Tornadoes are discussed. Video of only one tornado and the chase! I was disappointed! I was expecting lightning, towering thunderstorms and a few more tornado videos. If you want an excellent storm video, get National Geographic's "Natures Fury". It is superb compared to this. More footage and great sound.

1 out of 5 stars IMAX Stormchasers.......2001-11-25

I was very disappointed with this video. There was little actual storm footage. Mostly about the weather equipment.

2 out of 5 stars Great sound, good video, little content!.......2001-07-13

I'm not sure if it was the huge screen, or what, but when I saw this feature in Omnimax it was much more impressive! The video is good, the sound is awesome on a surround sound system, but there is little storm footage. If I wanted to watch the people who chase storms, I could turn on TLC or the Discovery channel.

Spend your money on Twister if you're looking for a storm flick! Sure the tornados are Hollywood-made but at least you get to see them for more than 60 seconds!! This DVD ...! I want my money back!

4 out of 5 stars I Haven't Seen Too Many Independent Movies, But I Think This One's Okay.......2007-01-07

Time Chasers is okay, it just happens to be really easy to make fun of. I mean, there's the guy in the pink suit, the woman reporter wearing two different plaids, the villian with the corny voice, and several other non-ideal kinks spread out all over the place...but I've seen worse. Much worse.

The plot centers on a guy named Nick who builds a time machine using software from a half-dozen or so old-school floppy disks that probably hold 1 megabyte of memory apiece. (Thanks to MST3K for pointing this out.) Okay, so we immediately see that the movie is dated. But the whole time travel theme and the halfway decent script save Time Chasers from becoming another Manos: The Hands of Fate.

Our hero Nick is convinced nobody will believe he has built a time machine unless they see it in action first-hand, so he calls an invention company and says he's building a fuel-efficient engine to sucker a representative of the company into viewing a demonstration. He also calls a newspaper reporter and says his 80 year old grandma is going to try skydiving for the first time.

When the reporter and invention company representative are in the plane, Nick takes them on a journey fifty years into the future. The impressed company buys the time machine and Nick goes on a time traveling date with the female newspaper reporter. When Nick and the reporter travel back to the future while making out, they realize that the invention company has used the time machine as a weapon and the future is ruined as a result.

The rest of the movie is mostly just Nick running around in a mud-stained Castleton t-shirt while the Revolutionary War of the 1700's is taking place. Also, Nick's past self meets his present self, and it's all very confusing. There's a happy ending though, and the few megabytes of time machine software are permanently deleted. Silly, but refreshing.

    1 out of 5 stars Mistie Classic.......2006-07-19

This movie is a piece of MST3K gold! It is not enjoyed without wathching it with Crow, Mike, and Tom wisecracking away about the hero, the music, and how the bad guy over-squints. The movie is available on a four disk set on amazon entitled Mystery Science Fiction Theatre 3000 Volume 5, which includes Time Chasers, The Touch of Satan, Merlin's Shop of Mystical Wonders, and Boggy Creek 2 (which is actually 3). All of Mystery Science Fiction Theatre 3000 is worth seeing as Two robots and a man named Mike insult Hollywood's and everyother places worst movies.

1 out of 5 stars Deplorable. But hilarious as a Mystery Science Theatre episode.......2005-11-27

If you buy this movie, you get what you deserve. This movie is horrible.

But as a Mystery Science Theatre episode, it's one of the funniest things I have ever seen on the planet.

    1 out of 5 stars My God..........2005-11-19

This has to be the worst movie I have ever seen. The hero is a joke, well this movie is a joke. I cant believe someone funded this movie. The acting was horrible, and the hero... I will not accept this guy as a hero. Thanks Mystery Science for getting me through this. I am now aware of how low a movie can go.

    1 out of 5 stars FOR CASTLETON!.......2005-01-23

I wouldn't recommend buying the un-MST3Ked version of this, unless you have some kind of severe head injury that renders you unable to laugh.
