5 out of 5 stars Irish music with delightful plot twists .......2007-01-15

I first saw this film at the Toronto Film Festival, and loved it. It's wry, whimsical, loving, funny, and full of hilarious plot twists, spun with spectacular Irish Caleigh music.

4 out of 5 stars Worst fake fiddle playing I've ever seen; other than that, a cute movie.......2006-07-06

This movie had a great plot, wonderful music, some hysterically funny moments and beautiful settings, but I just can't forgive the incredibly fake fiddling throughout the movie (hence the four stars instead of five). Andrea Corr does NOT play the fiddle in real life - her sister Sharon does - and one can definitely tell by watching her throughout the movie. Not only do her fingers stay completely still during every musical scene in which she is supposedly playing, but even her bowing wrist is stiff and never budges. Could sis Sharon not have coached her a little, or better still, why didn't they just cast Sharon? I spotted several other fake fiddlers throughout the movie - the best fiddlers were the children! Sorry to be such a whiner about it, but ANY Irish music aficionado can spot someone who's never picked up a fiddle in his or her life, and this movie seems to be filled with them. Are actors who can fiddle so difficult to find? For crying out loud, even Russell Crowe learned how to fiddle for his movie, Master and Commander or whatever that movie was. I was so disappointed because I'd hoped to see some kick-[...] fiddling while watching this movie. Really unfortunate.

5 out of 5 stars Nice & Refreshing.......2006-03-23

As a fan of The Corrs I had to get this movie due to Andrea Corr being one of the actresses in it.
The movie was right fine, Had enough humor to get some good laughs. Had some mystery that was a good laugh near the end. And the ending was as sweet as Andrea's last smile.
This one is most fitting to watch with your lover snuggled up next to you.

3 out of 5 stars A pleasant movie.......2006-03-15

Although some of the plotlines and jokes are predictable, the movie still entertains. Those who enjoy traditional Irish music, or movies such as "Waking Ned Devine", "Local Hero", "The Commitments" and "The Snapper" should give this movie a watch - although not quite as good as any of the above, it is certainly worth a viewing.

For those who play traditional Irish music, you will love the session "in-jokes" such as the visiting American band playing "Irish Washerwoman", one band-leader's admonition "...you're playing the accordion for starters!", and the scene of a session being over-run by a horde of novice bodhran players.

Speaking from the viewpoint of one who plays traditional music, the only irksome thing about the movie is that the lead woman (from the Corrs) FAILS TO MOVE HER FINGERS AT ALL as she pretends to play the fiddle. This is even more strange, considering that she actually CAN play the fiddle quite well in real life. How did that one get by the director?

5 out of 5 stars Another good Irish movie.......2006-02-24

If you liked Waking Ned Devine you should like this movie. It deals with an Irish band competition that pits brothers against each other. The lead singer with The Coors plays the female lead and is very good. Good entertainment.
