Bob Odenkirk and David Cross, creators and stars of the HBO comedy sketch series Mr. Show, bravely stretch one of that program's premises and characters into a generally successful, feature-length film in Run Ronnie Run! Cross plays Ronnie Dobbs, a trailer-park nitwit whose pranks find him routinely chased by small-town police. When an L.A. television producer (Odenkirk) discovers Ronnie is a favorite and frequent felon on a reality TV show, he signs Dobbs to his own series (Ronnie Dobbs Gets Arrested!) and re-settles him in Beverly Hills. Unprepared for fame, money, and power, Ronnie tries reinventing his life with mixed results. Much of Run Ronnie Run! is funny, though Cross--always a strong performer--is typically better than the material. The film works best as a showcase for sight gags and one-note sketches; among the latter is a great piece involving a self-help guru and a cameo by Jeff Goldblum. --Tom Keogh

5 out of 5 stars Great movie, great delivery........2007-05-06

Funniest damn movie I have ever seen. Delivered on time.

5 out of 5 stars Underrated!.......2007-03-08

I hate to compare this to Joe Dirt, but everyone else does. And while the overall story is not as good (not that it's bad), scene for scene it is much funnier.

4 out of 5 stars Rediculous movie, but funny at the same time, many cameos as well........2007-01-12

I have seen this on the shelf at the rental store for the past couple of years, and just never taken a chance to rent it. Finally on a preview on another movie I saw this one, and it looked funny...and it is. Its just plain stupid comedy that you can eject your brain for 90 minutes and laugh it up. Ronnie is a hell raiser in a small Georgia town, and he has a loyal following of locals. He's been married 3 times...to the same woman, and all of his kids are named ronnie...and of course, they live in a trailer. See where this is going. Well, Ronnie is notorious for being on the TV show FUZZ, similar to COPS, for being arrested the most times, and for doing outrageos things. Well, a failing hollywood inventor/producer see some video of Ronnie on one of his escapades and decides this is his golden ticket to a hit show. He sells the pitch to network executives, ant they take it. Well, the movie takes off from their. Watch the rise, fall, and rebirth of Ronnie. Many cameos made in this movie by celebreties, Kathy griffith, jeff goldbloom, Rebecca romaine and john Stamos, and some of the Kids in the Hall gang such as dave foley. One bonus are some of the songs in between, just outrageously stupid..but I couldn't stop laughing. Check it out, worth buying here on amazon.

4 out of 5 stars where did this come from?.......2006-08-04

i had never heard an inkling about this movie until one guy at work told me about it. the only thing i knew was the main character was that one dude from Scary Movie 2 that was in a wheelchair and had the cock eyes. i didn't have high expectations since i never even heard of it.

surprise surprise! this freaking movie was funny. it borders on dumb redneck humor mixed with dumb and dumber, or something like that. there were a lot of memorable quotes and characters and that is something i didn't expect. i figure if you know about it then you probably enjoyed it enough to be entertaining. i know i did. for those of you who hadn't watched this, it is slightly offensive but worth a look.

3 out of 5 stars Silly but funny.......2006-07-28

Ronnie looks like a caveman to me. Maybe that is what makes him funny (or at least in this movie). This movie is a spoof of "reality" shows. And I guess it's making fun of Southerners (so what else is new?). But it's a gentle ribbing, not mean spirited. I think it kind of gave a one thumb up to the iconoclastic nature of Southerners. If you are in the mood to laugh and not think too hard, you might like this.

For most families, moving is a new beginning. But for the Creeds, it could be the beginning of the end. Because they're just moved in next door to a place that children built with broken dreams, the Pet Sematary. (But the Creeds don't have return tickets.) Your tour guide is kindly old Judd Crandall (Fred Gwynne), the neighborhood nice guy who knows the secrets of life, but has seen enough to firmly believe that "sometimes dead is better."

3 out of 5 stars Please, Stop Eating My Throat Little Boy!..........2007-04-28

Stephen King's book PET SEMATARY scared the $#!t out of me! I found the movie version entertaining, but not quite as frightening. I liked Denise Crosby as Mrs. Creed, and the kids were good. Dad was okay as well. Fred Gwynne made a decent Jud Crandel too. I guess I just wanted to be scared $#!tless again! Really, the only complaint I have about the movie is the showing of the resurrected Gage. Seeing his baby face made things far less terrifying than just showing his back, or a hand (like when the hand came from under the bed) or his shadow running past. Anyway, PET SEMATARY had it's moments. Zelda was suitably creepy, as she lurched about wheezing and cackling. The kitty that played Church was great! The actual pet cemetery and the Mic Mac burial ground were well done. I did miss the wendigo though! Oh yeah, and how about the fact that the only traffic on the road seemed to be those speeding ORINKO fuel trucks? Pretty funny! Enjoy...

5 out of 5 stars "The Soil of a Man's Heart is Stonier" ..........2007-04-02

While Romero was the first in line to direct "Pet Sematary" (he was committed to another project at the time), Mary Lambert took her job to heart. (And she readily admits that King loved her because she was close friends with The Ramones ... I respect her for that!!) She took great pains in finding the perfect house (she searched all summer for it), the perfect tree (she had that HUGE tree extricated from somewhere entirely different and planted in front of the yellow house!!), even the perfect cat (there are seven that 'play' Church ... one that excels at scratching, one at jumping, etc..). She attended to every detail with passion. Most importantly, I truly respect her choice with Gage's character. Lambert could have presented the undead Gage as grotesquely mutilated. Instead, she opted for something much more horrific: undead, unclean Gage as reanimated by Louis hubris ... with his cherubic (now daemonic) face intact. It is potent. Likewise, her choice of costume for his undead character was spot-on (and highly controversial). The dress echoes the painting in the Goldman's home and conjures a staggering sense of Freud's definition of "the uncanny." Oddly enough, even though Lambert had to fight for this choice (and King backed her entirely), it is one of the most frightening aspects of the film!!

As many of you may know, "Pet Sematary" was the one novel that King wrote (in 1979) and then hid away for fear of unleashing it dark contents. The text (based on a near-death experience with his own child) frightened Stephen and Tabitha so badly that they deemed it better to keep in a drawer. Only as a result of contractual obligation was it published in 1983. To this date, it is King's pinnacle of genuine horror.

Lambert's Director's Commentary makes this a must-have for horror-film scholars everywhere!! Her interpretation of Jud Crandall and Victor Pascow's roles are a bit unusual ... so listen to her explanation of how she shot these two characters, then watch the film with this in mind.

To this day, people ask Romero what he would alter about the film. His response is: "I would have done it BETTER." Still, I think Lambert did an excellent job of bringing King's masterwork to life. I loved it when I saw it opening day ... and I love it even still today.

I see that Paramount Pictures has a remake scheduled for 2008. I cannot help but to worry ... the director (as of yet, unknown) has a tough battle to create a more earth-shattering piece.

5 out of 5 stars Great scary horror film.......2007-03-22

"Pet Semetary" is one of the best horror movies Hollywood produced. The lovely Creed family move to Maine, where Louis (Dale Midkiff) has take a job as a local college doctor. He discovers that there is a 'pet sematary' next to his new house. The family cat, Church, dies, and Louis's neighbor Jud Crandall (Fred Gwynne) agrees to bury it in the sematary. Church comes back to life but different. Then the cute infant Gage dies, and guess what Louis is thinking of doing. This is a very scary movie about zombies, and a much more realistic version of it. The movie is based on the popular book by Stephen King; indeed this is one of the more faithful adaptations. The family, much like the family in "Cujo", is very cute and sympathetic. Almost Norman Rockwell gone to Hell. The subject and theme of family and love is strong, and that is what makes the film powerful, these are real people in an impossible situation. The movie also deals with the nature of death (though not as extensively as the book) and people's fear of it. These are feelings most people can relate to, and that is why it's so much scarier when people start dying, and worst when they don't stay dead. All the actors do well, no problem there. Mary Lambert's direction is good, if nothing special. The script is by Stephen King, the first time he adapted his own material, and his love of his own story really shines through. This is a good, really scary movie with heart and brains behind it.

5 out of 5 stars You will never let your pets or kids near the road again........2007-03-14

When I first read Pet Sematary it scared me half to death. I had a hard time reading passed the funeral home scene. Well the same goes for the movie: it is horrifying. GULP!
Stephen King was on top of his game when her wrote the book, and the movie does a good job at delivering the true storyline.

5 out of 5 stars "Blaze" is Outstanding!.......2007-02-07

A wonderful performance by Paul Newman (as always!). The movie actually sweeps a person along so that one feels as if they are living in the era. A Must See!

5 out of 5 stars Politics, Scandalous, & Sexy!.......2006-07-10

Politics, scandalous affair, and sexy-what more could you want??! Seriously, I enjoyed this film alot. I did not judge this as a documentary or biography. It is noted in the credits that this is "based on Miss Starrs memoirs". This is a story of a poor West Virginia gal who becomes the glamorous burlesque stripper Blaze Starr and her relationship with Governor Earl Long. Lolita Davidovich does a great job as Blaze and she is very sexy! Paul Newman is awesome as Governor Earl Long. Blaze may be naive to the ways of the world but learns to look out for herself. Gov. Long is a wheeler dealer who is a smart politician and outsmarts his opponents. I thought this film was very good and enjoyed it immensely. Entertaining and well done!

4 out of 5 stars A Fun Films about a real rascal.......2005-06-20

I just love this film! Old Blue Eyes did real justice to one of the strangest and most effective Politicans to come out of the Old South.(Earl Long)I am willing to bet Bill Clinton has this film in his library.

This movie has everything.

Plot, personality, action.

Newman was never better.

Why isn't it on DVD??

3 out of 5 stars "Blaze" flames out!.......2001-12-17

Ron Shelton's second directorial effort (after "Bull Durham") falls a little flat. You might be tempted to say that he should stick to sports films--which does seem to be his forte. But I suspect the real problem with this film was that it was based on a memoir and was not one of Shelton's original scripts. The memoir, of course, was that of legendary exotic dancer, Blaze Starr, and she not only provided the source material but served as consultant on the film and even had a cameo. Her influence may not have been all that felicitous, however.

The hurried exposition scenes (young Blaze, nee Belle, bidding her central casting hillbilly family goodbye as she boards a bus, being introduced to the world of exotic dancing by an unscrupulous promoter played by Robert Wuhl) just don't ring true. Belle/Blaze can't have been SO naive as to think that she was being hired to sing in a strip club. And the scene where she and Wuhl cook up her stage name is almost painful in its cuteness. The movie stumbles badly in its introductory scenes.

It is not the fault of Lolita Davidovich, who is quite fetching in the title role, and the film does get better once Paul Newman makes his entrance as the irascible, eccentric governor of Louisiana, Earl K. Long, brother of Huey and therefore heir to a colorful tradition of populist backwoods-backroom politicking. Newman delights in the role, and the chemistry beteen him and Davidovich is genuine. It ratchets the film up a notch or two.

But it still never quite catches fire. It may be that by 1989, we had already seen this type of cornpone politics on film a few too many times. Was the real Earl K. Long as much of a progressive on the integration and voting rights issue as the film implies. Well, this Yankee won't presume to know for sure, but within the context of the film, Long's progressivism comes off as a little cliched. He's clearly a rascal, but he's supposed to be redeemed somewhat in the audience's eyes since he's on the right side of the race issue. But frankly it would be a little more interesting, if he were just a little more conflicted about the racial politics of his home state.

As for the Blaze Starr character, well, as implied above, her character could be, uh, fleshed out more as well. She has been elsewhere described as a "stripper with a heart of gold," and that may well have been the case, but surely, the country gal who started out wanting to be a singer must have been more conflicted about her career path than this film ever suggests. The only sense we get of that inner conflict, however, is her reluctance to tell her backwoods mama what she really does for a living (of course, Mama's not quite as naive and isolated as Blaze thinks: she even keeps a scrapbook of her daughter's exploits). A more nuanced portrait might have upset the real-life Starr, however, and maybe she wouldn't have served as consultant to writer/director Shelton.

Hmmm. Maybe that would have been a good thing.

3 out of 5 stars fairy tale turned horror tale!.......2006-11-03

the movie rumplestiltskin was, to me, more of a comedy than a horror film! kim johnston ulrich took a classic childrens fable and made it into a decent horror film :) the effects in this movie aren't that great.. and the quality of the film is low but overall it's a good watch for those interested in childrens fables turned horror. if you are interested in such.. maybe you'd like pinnochio's revenge along with this one.

2 out of 5 stars Not so Scary for a Horror Movie.......2006-09-08

Rumpelstiltskin is a movie I recorded off of a paid channel years ago. I only recently sat down and rewatched it. This movie is from the same people that did Leprechaun, (no surprise there), since this movie is about a little deformed creature man.

The movie is about pregnant woman whose husband dies in the line of duty. Sometime has passed since his death and she's had the baby. Now she visits a pawn shop where she finds this unique looking jade and gold statue. She takes the statue home, and finds herself wishing her husband could see his baby. Well, Rumpelstiltskin "grants" her wish, and in return she must now give him her first child. He terrorizes her through the whole movie, and kills the people that gets in his way.

Watching the movie, I noticed there wasn't really any blood in it, and it wasn't all that scary. I found myself getting bored halfway through the movie. I must say that the make up effects on Rumpelstiltskin was pretty realistic looking and creepy. The movie seemed like more of an action movie with a deformed little man as the bad guy, instead of a horror movie.

It wasn't very original either, it reminded me too much of Leprechaun, with a little man terrorizing the characters of the movie untill he gets what he's after, and killing everyone that gets in his way. Same basic plot of Leprechaun, only worse with no blood. It wasn't the worse movie I've seen, but it wasn't all that great, and it didn't creep me out one bit for a horror movie.

3 out of 5 stars Not Scary But Funny!!.......2005-07-23

Rumpelstiltskin is not really a horror movie..its more of a comedy.LOL its a little hunchback riding a harley..yea see wat I mean ...not scary!!So if you like weird and interesting movies...see this!!

NOT SCARY BUT FUNNY!!!

2 out of 5 stars More like "Rumpled-Crap-Film.......2005-05-13

Ha ha ha. Okay, okay, I never even watched the movie. i just wanted to type that, but if it is anything like Leprechaun, then it sucks and I was right.

3 out of 5 stars Decent Horror-Comedy from the director of Leprechaun.......2005-03-20

Mark Jones who directed the 1993 classic "Leprechaun" directed this similar horror-comedy with the title character Rumpelstiltskin who rips a man's eye out and then is turned into a green rock by a witch and then dumped into a river and then the movie starts in L.A. with a cop being shot by a criminal and then his wife and her friend visit an antique shop and then the mom sees the green rock of Rumpelstiltskin and then buys it but then the creature comes alive and then wants her baby and then she runs off with her baby and then the creature follows her and then the fun starts. The movie is basically a rip-off of Leprechaun but instead of a creature wanting a pot of gold the the creature wants a baby. The low-budget is lower than Leprechaun and the special effects by Kevin Yagher(Child's Play 2,Phantom of the Opera(1989),976-EVIL)are decent for a low-budget,the acting was mediocre and the only good acting was by Max Grodenchik who played Rumpelstiltskin. The movie is out-of-print but if you do find it rent it.

Pros:
Good Special Effects/Makeup
Some funny scenes

Cons:
Some bad acting
plot is sometimes poorly written

When I first read Pet Sematary it scared me half to death. I had a hard time reading passed the funeral home scene. Well the same goes for the movie: it is horrifying. GULP!
Stephen King was on top of his game when her wrote the book, and the movie does a good job at delivering the true storyline.

4 out of 5 stars Good but not great........2007-04-17

Yoai(boy-boy love)...if you dont like it then dont watch this anime. There is not a lot but enough. This series was good, the animation very well done and the characters were pretty well developed. However, the story was very very slow moving. It seemed like hardly anything ever happened. And the romantic conflict between the 2 main characters never came to a close...nothing got resolved. And if your like me, you will love the hair. I am a sucker for great hair in an anime...so much that ill hardly watch one that doesnt have awesome hair somewhere. Hope this helped.

5 out of 5 stars A masterpiece of beautiful sensibility and character development.......2007-01-31

I just finished viewing this anime series and was totally blown away by the masterful character development, complex relationships, and emotional intensity of the very attractive characters. It has a compelling and complex plot that held my interest so well that I was quickly hooked and anxious to see what would transpire in each of the next episodes (there are 3 episodes on each of the 4 CDs). The music and graphics are also top rate. After viewing this series, I went out and bought Japanese language instructional CDs and will now review the series in the original Japanese with English subtitles to help me start learning Japanese. The English dubbed version on the DVD is also quite good. I also highly recommend the sequel DVD, "Mirage of Blaze - the River Edge," and am passionately hoping that the wonderful production team that put this series together will delight us with additional volumes.

5 out of 5 stars Different, emotional and character driven!!!.......2006-07-21

To begin with, if you are looking for Mechas, CB or stuff like that etc. than you you should avoid this anime.

Also, if someone of you does not like a series that includes, in the broader sense of meaning, man to man `attractions' than you better should skip this one as well.

Well, a few words about the story:

The two main characters (protagonists) are Kagetora and Naoe. In order to understand the story, you should keep in mind that although the main story resolves in our times you will get information and `flashbacks' of earlier times as well. The reason is that:
a) Re-incarnation of souls
b) The two main protagonists used to live in feudal time-periods when war was going on and they are re-incarnated today with `new' names: Takkaya is Kagetora and Yuzuru is Naoe.
c) The war that used to be at earlier times continues still today (by psychic powers etc.).
d) War occurs in both our world and the spiritual world.
e) Power games between Clans etc.

The problem: The warriors do remember their past lives etc. but Kagetora does not (in order to fully awaken his powers he needs to remember). This will lead to an explosive mixture of `switching' emotions; for instance, you will see that Naoe loves and hates Kagetora as well (may sound confusing but when watching it you will understand. Apart from it, when watching the continuation of this series, called `Mirage of Blaze: Rebels of the River Edge OVA' you will see the reason why).

Furthermore, the story is also very character driven. It does indeed introduce you to a lot of information and various other characters but I personally believe that once you watch it you will be able to sort it out.

Unfortunately I cannot write much more about the story or otherwise I would start giving things away which could ruin the suspense when watching it (sorry guys).

As for the story it is very good, interesting, and solid with many twists. Moreover, it is very emotional and has a great character development; therefore, if you are the sensible type than prepare for an emotional rollercoaster. The series could be categorized under the genre of fantasy/action and romance.

The dub is very good as is the music as well that accompanies the story (starts with something like a rock/pop song and finishes with a melodic song); not to mention the fact that the animation is very good, too.

As for bad guys and action you will have more than enough like the Fuuma Ninjas etc.

As for extras: Well the typical stuff like trailers etc. (The second one comes with more fan service and so forth).

Additional:

The story is based on supernatural facts, believes etc. Meaning that the explanations they provide belong to the category of supernatural (something like Anthroposophy or Theosophy 'teachings' and in addition with implication of Christianity, Buddhism, exorcism and all of it combined with magic). Furthermore, the fights that take place belong to the supernatural plane as well but affect tremendously our material world. For instance, if someone sends out to kill an opponent with a psychic fireball (I apologise for the `weird' terminology that I just used) than it will hit our world like an explosion etc.

To sum up:
Is it worth buying it? My answer would be yes, the price is good, and I do recommend them. Apart from it, if you have not yet included a different show in your anime collection than this superb show is worth owning.

I hope I could help you ^_^

5 out of 5 stars Fascinating, Engrossing, Romance at its best!!.......2006-04-21

Mirage of Blaze is a boy/boy relationship centered anime. I had already experienced and loved a similar story titled Gravitation, but where Gravitation leans towards the comedic, Mirage of Blaze is pure action romance drama with its inherent extra dosage of angst. This is one anime that will satisfy those looking for more complex serious adult oriented plots/stories and the fact that the romance centers on two gorgeous male characters makes it all the better.

This is the type of story that requires full attention. No fluffy plot. You need to think in order to fully appreciate it. There are dozens of names/characters and a myriad of information that helps you piece the plot together and that may confuse those with a weak attention span. If you are the type that only wants the romantic couple to get down to business with not much back-story, then this may not be for you. Like I said, there are several characters integral to Mirage of Blaze, however, I will only comment on the two that are the nucleus of the story.

A battle of feudal Japan is still going in contemporary times with the main characters as spiritual beings that reincarnate over and over. Our heroes are Kagetora and his second in command/protector, Naoe. Kagetora does not remember his past, however, the sexual tension between him and Naoe is palpable from the very beginning, something that totally confuses Kagetora...I am hooked. What follows is a slow progression towards a confrontation between the two that gives us a glimpse of the true nature of their relationship and the depths of their feelings. Who would have thought that Naoe who is usually calm and in control of his emotions could become such a violent bursting volcano of resentment and jealousy or that Takkaya (Kagetora) so loving and concerned with his friend Yuzuru could be capable of great cruelty? Especially toward someone that he so obviously loves, even though he may not realize it yet or better said, refuses to acknowledge. When I say romance, I do not refer to the bring me flowers and candy romantic element, this is about love and hate, the need to protect and hurt simultaneously. This is about us the viewer cheering for our two heroes, wanting desperately for the misunderstandings to end so that they may finally open up to each other. This is soap opera at its best and I can't wait for more. I already bought Mirage of Blaze: Rebels of the River Edge OVA, and incredibly it is better than the series, if that is possible. In Rebels of the River Edge we are rewarded with some type of culmination between Kagetora and Naoe and we get a glimpse of the reason Kagetora fights so strongly against his love and desire for Naoe and the reason why Naoe hates and loves him. It is fascinating and engrossing to watch their conflicting emotions and inner battles. It is very seldom that I come across something this intricate, romantic and complex. Like I previously wrote, I am hooked for life.

5 out of 5 stars Mirage of Blaze.......2006-08-14

I LOVED it! Not only was the animation good but the story was great. Naoe is my favorite character. I'm a sucker for a torchered soul and he has a sexy voice. I love his relationship with Takaya. I wasn't into Yaoi until I saw this. They have a beautiful and complex love story. Almost like a parent/child relationship but they have a tendency to switch roles, sometimes Takaya is dominant and sometimes Naoe is. I love that no matter what their issues are the story shows they are stronger together then apart. The intense almost sex scene explains a lot about why Naoe feels torchered and Takaya's reluctance.

I'm hoping for another installment the ending left a lot of opportunities. A definite must see.

5 out of 5 stars Even more powerful and emotional than the first one!!!.......2006-07-21

To begin with, if you are looking for Mechas, CB or stuff like that etc. than you you should avoid this anime.

Also, if someone of you does not like a series that includes, in the broader sense of meaning, man to man `attractions' than you better should skip this one as well.

Moreover, this is the continuation of the first Mirage of Blaze.

Quick story overview of what is going on in general (mostly in the first volumes of Mirage of Blaze):

As for the story of the current OVA:

It starts where the first one left off. The two main protagonists' relation and emotions have reached, at least in my humble opinion, the sphere of being called mind-blowing and `madness'. Who will dominate over the other one and under what conditions?

Additionally, the introduction of new characters continues such as Araki etc. In general, without giving too much away, in these OVAs we see why some clans try to catch Araki (and sacrifice him), continues battles between Naoe and Takaya and last but not least, it also centres on Ayako and her story.
For the ones who are not familiar with this show, at first the story may sound boring but it is completely the opposite. Thing is that I would like to avoid in getting too much into the story because if a reviewer decides to watch the anime than most probably I would ruin the suspense of it (sorry guys).

Furthermore, in these OVAs you will see part of the reason of why the two main protagonists fight constantly and why they feel for each other this way (here I am referring to rape scenes etc.). Believe me; it is very powerful and emotional done! Therefore, if you are not the type who can watch something like this than skip it...
Additionally, the anime keeps a serious and sad tone through out the story and the way it ends it leaves the impression that there will be a continuation (hopefully more will come out soon of Mirage of Blaze). Personally, I dare to say that the series are focusing more to a more mature audience. For instance, you will not see any funny tones, jokes etc. in these series; series that are very serious.

As for the animation: The animation is very good and even better done than the first series; in one word, one of the best I have seen and only a few animes can compare with it.

The dub is very good as is the music that accompanies the series as well (starts, like the first series, with a rock/pop song and finishes with a melodic sad song).

The genre of this anime would be: fantasy/action/romance/ and love drama.

It has a solid storyline, twists, is powerful (and emotional) and very character driven.

Extras: Well, here they also included more extras - than the first show - such as, textless opening/ending, interviews with the actors of the main characters, and an anime catalogue.

Finally, the way the show ends leaves the impression that more is to come and creates a good fan service basis.

As to the potential question of buying it or not, my humble opinion would be yes.

To begin with, the price is the (almost) standard one that is used for DVDs of this genre. If you have bought the first one, than you will definitely buy this one as well. If you haven't than buy the first one first and then buy this one. Last but not least, if you are the type that does not like this kind of anime (meaning, man to man `attractions', whereas the term `attraction' is used in the broader sense of meaning) than you should skip this one.
In addition, I believe that the viewer of the show should be at least 15 years and over for the previous mentioned reasons. Apart from it, if you have not yet included a different show in your anime collection than this superb show is worth owning.

At any rate, I hope I could help you ^_^

5 out of 5 stars Great OVA want more!.......2006-04-02

Your already know what the story is about and from the other reviews. So I'm just going to tell what a thought of the OVA.

I was excited that the story center around another character from the Shigens, Ayako. She tells about her past and how she loved someone who died, but then the man Takaya and Ayako are trying to capture looks like the one she loved from long ago.

Also what excite me was how Naoe was different from the series and so was Takaya. Naoe left Takaya in the end of the series telling him how he feels about him and leaves. He still apart from the Shigen's in the OVA doing his own being a body gard, but then bumps into Takaya during an infestigation. When Naoe meets up with Takaya he goes back as being the same in the series but 10 times worse. He tells Takaya how feels about him again but it leads to rage, witch leads to a rape scene making Takaya flash back about his past life (giving us a clue why he sealed his memories).

I was glad they made an OVA to tell more of the show, but what I didn't like was how Yuzuru and Chiaka only had a small part. I would like to know more of Yuzuru and whats the conection with him and Takaya, and why he has powers which scares the fudal under-world.

I still rate it a five for giving me a little more of the story.

5 out of 5 stars OAV goodness.......2005-10-14

In this OAV, Tagetora/Takaya is not the same slacker from volumes 1-4. He has finally come to terms with who he and what he is. Naoe returns and we see a jealous and manipulative Tagetora and finally start to understand what Naoe means when he claims (in the volumes 1-4) that Tagetora is the reason why he acts the way he does. Be warned, though. There is a rape scene between the two where Tagetora/Takaya has another flashback to something disturbing that happened to him.

There is a lot about "sis's" past in this one that ties in with the present. A present-day pocessor looks very like her lover from two hundred years ago, but this new pocessor has a secret.

5 out of 5 stars Even More Than I Had Hoped For..........2005-09-24

Firstly, I'd like to point out that I have been waiting for this DVD ever since I found out that it was in production. I have been a long time fanatic of the Mirage of Blaze (Honoo no Mirage), and I was rather disappointed with the abrupt ending of the first series, Mirage of Blaze TV.

Thankfully, this new OVA picks up right where the last episode left off.

I was immediately struck by how different the characters seemed. This series digs a lot deeper into the real reasons behind everyone's involvement in the Feudal Underworld, especially that of Haruie.

But to be perfectly honest, the real driving point of the story, at least for myself, is the constant battling and overall angst of Takaya and Naoe. Naoe, in particular, seems much different than he was in the TV series. He begins to fight back, in his own way, against Takaya's consistent inability to make a decision regarding his feelings towards Naoe.

This is the part where I tell you that if you're into this series for the yaoi, this is where the getting gets good. The insinuating overtones are a thing of the past, and as soon as you watch the second episode on the DVD, Tiger's Eye, you'll see exactly what I mean. This DVD, by the way, is rated 13+. I am almost certain that it is a mistake. Yes, it is that good. It's no Boku no Sexual Harrassment, but it certainly brightened up my day, week...year, rather.

I've only just received the DVD today, and I'm already in feverish anticipation for the next offering, here's hoping that it won't be another two years. Even so, I'll still be waiting.

    "The Devil's Foot"
One of the most interesting stories in the Sherlock Holmes canon, "The Devil's Foot" finds the Great Detective's friend and ally, Dr. Watson (Edward Hardwicke), pressuring the exhausted sleuth (Jeremy Brett) into joining him on a vacation on the Cornish coast. Instead of relaxation, however, Holmes and Watson encounter one of the most horrifying multiple murders they have yet come across. Though our heroes nearly die from Holmes's effort to prove the cause of death, they carry on until Holmes finally unmasks the identity of the culprits--and then makes a controversial decision about the fate of one. Brett and Hardwicke excel as Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's famous team, who are under more duress than usual in this fascinating tale.

    "Silver Blaze"
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle caught a fair amount of flak for getting a lot of details wrong in this story about the training and racing of horses. Nevertheless, it is one of his most popular yarns and makes a fine basis for this vigorous 1988 episode from the Granada Television series about Sherlock Holmes. The Great Detective and Dr. Watson hurry to Devonshire, following the murder of a trainer and the disappearance of Silver Blaze, a swift horse heavily favored to win the big-money Wessex Cup. Holmes takes some snarly barbs from Blaze's rich owner in stride--though he has his revenge on the arrogant fellow later. The mystery is a keen one and the solution is among Doyle's most inventive. Brett and Hardwicke are at their best as the dynamic duo.

    "The Bruce Partington Plans"
A junior clerk working for Britain's defense planning dashes off in the middle of a date with his fiancée, and turns up dead along some railroad tracks--apparently having been pushed from a train while carrying several secret documents related to England's development of a submarine warship. Was he a traitor? If so, who killed him? The case is brought to the attention of Sherlock Holmes and his Dr. Watson, by none other than Mycroft Holmes (Charles Gray), brother of the Great Detective and indispensable repository of government business. Sherlock's conclusions, however, prove there is more to the truth than meets the eye. Brett, as always, is the perfect Holmes while Hardwicke is the ideal Watson for the latter years of their crime-fighting career. A strong story with some of the sleuth's most impressive investigatory work, "The Bruce-Partington Plans" is a worthy part of the long-running Granada Television series, based on Arthur Conan Doyle's famous character. --Tom Keogh
