In Little Nicky, Adam Sandler plays the sweetest of three sons of Satan (Harvey Keitel), who's got to go to Earth and retrieve his nasty, power-hungry brothers lest they take over Hell and make it a thoroughly evil place. As with Sandler's other films, this weird premise (based oh-so-loosely on King Lear) is just an excuse to trot out a hodgepodge of comic bits and cameo performances. Admittedly, a lot of the jokes don't work (there was no need to repeat the one about shoving a pineapple up Hitler's ass), but the ones that do tend to be more memorable than the ones that don't, making for a pretty funny movie, when all is said and done. Sure, it's hard to overcome Sandler's speech impediment du jour, not to mention that romantic subplot with Patricia Arquette, but it can be done by focusing on the brilliant cameos by Regis Philbin, Reese Witherspoon, Ozzy Osbourne, and Henry Winkler (especially when he's covered with bees), as well as one of the funniest uses of a scene from De Palma's Scarface in years. Supporting Sandler throughout are two very funny heavy metal disciples and a bulldog named Beefy (voiced by Robert Smigel, the man behind Triumph the Insult Comic Dog). And, in an almost unrecognizable cameo, that's Clint Howard as the cross-dressing fetishist named "Nipples." --Andy Spletzer

5 out of 5 stars That has to be the most disturbing thing I've ever seen..........2006-11-22

And I'm not just talking about the giant horny bird. This movie's more fun than a swarm of angry bees!

Seriously though, if you're a Sandler fan, this is definitely a weird oe, but a must have. And this version is considerably better than the horribly edited and censored version they show on TV (rarely at that). The TV version has some of the best scenes all but cut out by the American puritanical censoring machine.

So, if you wish to see Little Nicky in all its underworld-ly gory (er, glory), you definitely need this disc. You want this disc! You are going to buy this disc, or I'll send Little Nicky's bigger, older, blacker brother by a different mother to mind-wrastle with you... Now, release the good!

The extra features are okay. Nothing to write home about, as I recall, though the main menu can be amusing at times. If you're bored. Picture is fine, audio is fine, and the fact that you get to see the movie in all its uncensored glory is excellent.

5 out of 5 stars Adam Sandler... is Satan's Son... and Lucifer's Grandson..........2006-08-28

Another gut bursting comedy by yours truly, Adam Sandler... starring as Little Nicky, He's sent off to earth because his father's reign as the laid back underlord Satan has come to an end... The spawn of Satan, and Nicky's 2 other more intimidating Evil-er Brothers... lol well, to say they are power hungry and full of hate is, a bit of an understatement. Nicky is force to fight for his father's throne... and uncover that his mother really is an angel and was Messin' wit Satan one night... Hence the birth of Nicky, and does it all within the Big Apple. The most hellish dirtiest city in America.

Nicky walks through about the "middle ground" of Earth and is surprised at how cold it is compared to hell... He looks like a brightly colored homeless guy with his many layers of winter clothing in the middle of June... walking the streets with his sidekick "talking bulldog". Nevertheless, it may sound ridiculous but, this is one of my favorites. Adam Sandler makes a this fiendish movie wit some of the funniest plots to-date. Check out Lil Nicky, It'll get ur head spinnin.

retire, but none of his sons are strong enough
for the job. Cassius, who is big and strong, but

really evil and smart, has no goodness at all. Then
there's Little Nicky that lacks any evil. Cassius and
Adrain leave Hell, thereby freezing the wall of fire
that lets the damned souls into Hell. Since no souls

and his two brothers are extremely more powerful than

4 out of 5 stars Hell at it's best.......2006-03-04

This was a funny movie that if you failed to laugh at can only mean you've lost your sense of humor. It was unique and the references to "Happy Gilmore" are certainly fun.

I think the main reason some people didn't like this film is because it showed that there is a heaven and a hell and that tends to scare those that deny or dispute their existence. So merely based on their own theological views, they denounce this film instead of accepting the premise and enjoying the comedy. And there is plenty of comedy throughout the film.

Simply pop this film into the DVD and don't try and make the film fit your version of theology. Just enjoy the laughs.

4 out of 5 stars The previews made it look dreadful, but it's a fave silly comedy of mine!.......2006-02-18

I know what you're thinking. If you're anything at all like me, when this movie was in the movie theaters and the previews were running rampantly, I thought this looked like the stupidest piece of trash to ever grace the big screen. But I'll admit readily when I'm wrong, and here I absolutely was. I'm not saying Little Nicky is the world's greatest film, or even comedy, but if you like Adam Sandler and silly comedies in general, this is a movie that won't disappoint when you desperately need something mindless to turn your brain into mush after a horrendous week (or even day) at work.

A movie that opens with Jon Lovitz acting like a big, horny bird in a tree certainly promises to be very entertaining. And it is. And we're taken straight to hell with Harvey Keitel playing the devil himself very nicely, a brief encounter with Dan Marino, and the late Rodney Dangerfield to name a few. We're also treated to the heavens above with Reese Witherspoon and the guy who played Adam Sandler's golf mentor in Happy Gilmore. This movie has everything it takes to be insanely silly and entertaining. And you'll LOVE what happens to Hitler in this.

Don't take it too seriously. If you do, you miss the entire point of Little Nicky. If this is your kind of movie, add it to your collection...you'll watch it many, many, many times again. Enjoy!

2 out of 5 stars Silly, Shallow, and Weak Plot.......2006-01-15

I idly watched this atrocious peice of trash one day for lack of things to do. I thought I'd just watch a sweet unicorn film. Unfortunately, I had to watch this bizzare interpretation of "the mystical bond between unicorn and girl". The unicorn foal resembled a cross between a neopet and a Barbie horse; why did they make it a cartoon? I must admit, the adult unicorn was rather impressive, but the rest was ridiculous. The little girl, Polly, was a flat, one-sided character with absolutely no character, and the so-called "villains" were a bunch of pathetic no-hopers; I think the main point of those characters was to provide crude humor to younger children. It didn't really work, though. Then there was a big debate over why the little girl should go to boarding school. I think this was the script writer's way of mixing in another hurdle for Polly to overcome. It was pointless, though. Overall this was a corny attempt to make a classic that really did not work. Only reccomended to children five and under, who only understand how pretty the unicorn is.

2 out of 5 stars All Show, No Depth.......2006-01-13

Ever since I was little, I have absolutely loved unicorns. When I saw this DVD advertised here on Amazon, I looked into it and found what looked like a good movie with an interesting plot. The story revolves around a little girl, Polly, whose old mare gives birth to a unicorn foal before dying. Polly soon comes to love the foal, of course, and pretty soon her love and loyalty are tested when a bunch of greedy circus people attempt to steal the unicorn for publicity purposes. I decided to give the movie the benefit of the doubt and bought it sight unseen. Sadly, this was a mistake. I guess I should have paid more attention to the negative reviews, because corniness was only one of this movie's faults. For starters, the depth of the story I had hoped for simply isn't there; the movie's tone is so completely juvenile, I expect only really small children would appreciate it. You may very well think,"Well, of COURSE it's juvenile; it's a kid's movie!" It's been my experience, however, that a really good children's movie will move adults as well. Such classics as, "Narnia", "The Secret Garden", "A Little Princess", and the wonderful "Harry Potter" series are all stories that, while often marketed as being for kids, have proven to affect adults as much as children (if not more so). The characters in this movie are not in the least memorable and not very believable as people. The "heroine" annoyed me instead of rousing my sympathy, and the so-called villains seemed to be nothing more than morons who were placed in the story to be made fools of. The leader of the circus was a greedy jerk, but there's not much more to be said for his character as far as affectiveness goes. The rest of the "bad guys" were embarassingly stupid. Trust me, Joe Pesci was more terrifying in the "Home Alone" series than these guys. The only faintly good point of the film was the unicorn, although he certainly couldn't save the film all by himself. Even he, however, had a few downfalls. As an adult, the unicorn is realistically played by a real horse, with a gorgeous glowing effect that magnifies his magical appearance. When he first appears as a foal, however, he is not played by a real horse but created with the most pathetic animation I've ever seen. The flying scenes were awkward as well and somewhat took away from the magical effect of the unicorn. The ending of the movie was abrupt and rather awkward, trying to patch a bunch of different resolutions together in one scene (more than one character had some sort of dilemma going on). All together, this film tried to be moving but came off as a bad caricature of a moving film rather than the real thing. You may think I'm being too harsh since it is, after all, just a kid's film. However, if this is what's considered the ideal children's film, then I strongly believe that children are not being given enough credit. Children are multi-dimensional in many ways and a movie should not be dumbed down in order to impress them. I certainly don't think this film is harmful to kids-it probably won't affect them much at all if they're over four-but I would say it's totally unnecessary for their intellectual development. I guess it depends on what you're looking for; if you want a film that effectively teaches morals, I recommend you look elsewhere (check out the movies I listed earlier). On the other hand, if you'd like a film that resembles a circus-pretty good entertainment, nice special effects, and no depth whatsoever-you might very well prefer this one.

4 out of 5 stars Not corny but an allegory.......2005-01-25

If your child is learning about allegories, this is a good illustration. Polly learns that her mare is dying in birth and prays for help to the unicorn that guards horses in horse heaven. A male unicorn is born; when Polly hugs it, her scraped knee is healed. The unicorn is the focus of three groups of criminals who want to steal it. A particularly cruel circus master wants the unicorn to do tricks in his circus. He puts the unicorn on display in his circus, whips it and tortures it to do what he wants. Polly and her friend rescue the unicorn. In the end she sets it free, where it flies into the sky and disappears, releasing its magic over the earth. The animation of the just-born unicorn foal soon after the story starts is awkward, and my eight-year old was disappointed. But when the movie switched to a real horse "actor", graphically enhanced as a unicorn, she was entranced. There's slapstick with the devious horse-nappers that is out-of-sync with the rest of the story, but kids don't seem to notice this jarring switch.

2 out of 5 stars Not bad for little kids, but it's very derivative .......2005-01-01

E.T. and Elliott ride across the moon... Oh, wait. This corny unicorn flick is just a rip-off of that children's classic. The "E.T." is a mythical one-horned horse named Spike, and "Elliott" is a little girl named Polly (Brittney Bomann). When Polly's mare foals Spike, she is desperate to shield him from covetous eyes but before long a nosy reporter finds out about the magical beast and it's a chase that goes into the very sky.

3 out of 5 stars Took a Risk, wasnt dissapointed.......2002-11-16

I took a risk on this one, I love unicorns, and i should not have gotten this but i did...And it was a GOOD CHOICE. Although a little too young for me, it was great for my little cousing (11 years old) she liked it. It is a story of a girl that wishes for a unicorn when her favorite mare is pregnant and the mare gives birth to one. They try to keep it a secret, but that proves more difficult than they expected. Great for children and unicorn lovers. The unicorn is cute although a little odd looking...great glowing effect on its entire body!

1 out of 5 stars THIS MOVIE IS HELL ON EARTH..........2006-04-26

This is not one of Adam Sandler's better films. In fact, it is downright bad and will appeal only to die hard Adam Sandler fans or satanists. Just how bad is it? Well, keep in mind that despite appearances in the film by Harvey Keitel, Patricia Arquette, Rodney Dangerfield, Quentin Tarantino, Regis Philbin, Henry Winkler, Reese Witherspoon, Ozzy Osbourne, and cast members from "Saturday Night Live", the film was still was pilloried by the critics and had a very brief run in theatres.

The plot is simple. Satan, played by Harvey Keitel, has three sons, of whom, Nicky, played by Adam Sandler as if he were auditioning for the role of Quasimodo in "The Hunchback of Notre Dame", is the youngest. Satan declines to name a successor to his throne and, instead, proclaims his intention to rule Hell for another ten thousand years, much to the consternation of his two power hungry older sons. His proclamation throws them into a rage. They leave Hell and go to Earth, knowing that their defection will bring about the eventual death of their father, Satan.

Satan sends Nicky to Earth to bring back his errant brothers, so that he may live and continue his rule. Nicky lands on Earth and is given an earthly guide in the guise of a talking dog. Together they proceed to have a number of adventures. Not even this contrivance, however, can save this film. The funny moments are often ham handed, sophomoric, and few and far between. The movie is pure self indulgence and leaves the viewer with a sense of embarrassment for those who participated in the making of this film. Save your money. There are better Adam Sandler movies.

        5 out of 5 stars AWESOME DVD!!!!.......2003-05-31

Both of these movies are by far some of Adam Sandlar's best movies ever. The Wedding Singer is about a struggling singer trying to get noticed but falls in love with his partner in teaching singing lessons (Drew Barrymore) who is marrying the wrong guy. With the help of his friend and his crushes roommate he must try to win her back before it's too late.Little Nicky is a hillarious story about the son of the devil (Sandlar) trying to save his father after his two brothers escaped from hell and froze the portal. Before his fater deteriorates Nicky must capture his brothers in a flask and bring them back. Both will make the perfect gift for any occasion.

5 out of 5 stars AWSOM MOVIE !!!!.......2003-05-31

I saw this movie on USA and immediately fell in love with it. It is by far one of Adam Sandlar's best. This romantic comedy also stars Drew Barrymore.Together these two talented people will make you want to watch it over and over again. This makes the perfect Valentine's Day gift,Birthday gift,or X-mas gift. For any Adam or Drew fan I would STRONGLY suggest buying this. You'll laugh till you cry and collapse!

5 out of 5 stars A Fine Example of why Adam Sandler is so loved........2001-10-23

Two killer movies in one pack. First up you have The Wedding Singer which I have no shame in saying is one of my all time favourite films. It's one of those movies that makes you laugh, cry and get involved and is guarenteed to leave you with a warm tingly buzz after watching. Second movie is Little Nicky which although isn't as funny as The Wedding singer has some great moments of it's own and a celebrity cast to die for featuring appearances by, Reese Witherspoon, Rodney Dangerfield, Dana Carvey, Henry Winkler, Rob Sneider and many more... While it's obvious Shakespear didn't put pen to paper on this one you still will enjoy it for the light hearted laugh fest it is. Check it out well worth the minimum dollars for two great nights in.
