A doomed Macaulay Culkin becomes the object of affection for a little girl (Anna Chlumsky), estranged from her widowed father (Dan Aykroyd). This somewhat daring premise has various emotional buffers to keep young viewers from going into shock from Culkin's demise, but the film is also not shut off from real feelings. And while the story remains safely predictable, at the end of the day it is still a bittersweet experience. Culkin's performance is okay in that somewhat mannered way of his post-Home Alone career, but Anna Chlumsky is unusually sophisticated in her understanding of her character and situation. Aykroyd and Jamie Lee Curtis are perfectly stable as the kids' single parents. Directed by Howard Zieff (Private Benjamin). The DVD release has a full-screen presentation, Dolby sound, theatrical trailer, and optional French and Spanish soundtracks. --Tom Keogh

2 out of 5 stars I Didn't Care for This Movie.......2007-05-09

I purchased this movie for my daughter. My friend recommended it; she said it was one of her favorite movies in high school (many moons ago). I've only caught bits and pieces of it, but in short, Katherine Heigl goes on vacation with her father, Gerard Depardieu, and she leads everyone at the vacation resort to believe that her Dad is her lover, in order to catch the attention of a young and handsome hottie at the resort. Katherine Heigl's character is also a compulsive liar in the movie; it doesn't seem to bother her that everyone at the resort thinks her Dad is a pervert (because they think they are a couple). My daughter likes this movie and asks to watch it frequently, but I'm not very fond of it.

5 out of 5 stars Awsome.......2007-01-04

This movie is so good and funny..I have loved this movie since it has came out..

4 out of 5 stars Thank Heaven For Little Girls .......2006-08-16

(3.5/5 stars) Gerard Depardieu is Andre, the father who is so desperate to have his daughter, Nicole, back as his little girl again that he plays along when she pretends he is her lover in order to make the guy she likes jealous. Very cute movie, with some funny moments as initially everyone except Depardieu knows about Nicole's little ploys. Katherine Heigl is a good choice for Nicole, a teenager embarrassed by her father and anxious to make her summer vacation memorable. Not exactly thought provoking material, but pleasant and enjoyable all around. Sure to please its intended audience, based on other reviews here. Maurice Chevalier would be glad.

5 out of 5 stars I love this movie.......2005-12-26

I got this dvd for Christmas. It was the best gift I got! I have been watching this since I was seven. It just so cute and you can watch it a million times and you still laugh! its so cute. I also have been looking everywhere for the sound track, I know a lot of the songs are by the Baha Men, but I would like to know if you can still get the sound track. If anyone knows how to get it please E-mail me!! Dalton James is so cute in this movie.

5 out of 5 stars Adorable! Sweet! Hilarious!.......2005-09-02

Fourteen year old Nicole's parents are divorced and her French father, Andre, is taking her on a tropical vacation to the Bahamas. Reluctantly, Nikki leaves her mother in New York City for the ten day getaway. She is at the height of her adolescence and she's anything but excited to be in a place that is filled with "old people" as she puts it to her father. While there, she meets seventeen year old Ben, and she's instantly infatuated with him. Wanting to impress her crush, Nikki tells him that she is slightly older than she actually is, and that her father is not her dad, but her boyfriend! Nikki persuades her father into going along with the whole charade, and soon enough, the entire resort finds out and they are absolutely repulsed by the fact that a man of Andre's age has such a young "girlfriend." Hilarious situations and a number of laughs make this movie a winner. One of my all time favorites.

5 out of 5 stars One Of The Best.......2007-06-06

I remember watching this movie when it came out and loving it. It's still one of my favorite films. Funny, touching, and wonderful era.

5 out of 5 stars Extremely powerful, with an effect that last decades.......2007-06-04

Whenever I think of this movie, I think of the death of the Thomas character and nothing else, but there's really much more to the movie than that. This could have been a very deep and moving film even if the whole bee-stinging incident was completely left out.

Okay, the movie starts out with a glimpse of the Sultenfuss family in their funeral home. And if I misspell any names they'll just have to remained misspelled, since I don't have the energy to look all this stuff up. Let me comment on something else, too. I watched this movie multiple times as a kid, and I still freaking forgot that the main character lived in a funeral home. That is a major, MAJOR part of the movie. How could I forget it? Amazing.

Well anyway, a woman shows up at the door of the funeral home asking for the make-up artist job. It seems that the owner of the home was smart enough to leave any reference to "deceased" out of the job description title in the newspaper. But the woman is a good sport and takes the job anyway, and since she lives in a motorhome she's there practially all the time, so she becomes like one of the family.

Well, while all this is going on, we follow the daughter of the funeral home owner, Veda, to see what a day in her life is like. It seems she constantly goes to a doctor and complains about how sick she is. We also find out she has a crush on her teacher, and because of him she's inspired to be a writer. So much that she takes a college level writing class over the summer. Pretty impressive for an [..], or however old she is.

She never hangs around with other girls, and spends all her time hanging around with her best friend Thomas instead. And although they do everything together, I still felt I didn't know very much at all about Thomas. I don't know if this was intentional on the part of the film makers or not. Honestly, it didn't seem that too much camera time was devoted to Thomas. The vast majority was spent on Veda and her dad. Her dad actually plays a big, big part of this movie. In fact, I would say that the development of his romantic relationship with the makeup lady and the effect it has on Veda is really the meat of the film. The sudden death of Thomas at the end and its particular effect is just the exclamation point to this long buildup.

Overall, this movie is a detailed account of an extraordinary character who already has a disposition to sadness and still is forced to face major issues at such a young age in life. I would say its even deeper than the Bridge to Terebithia book, which My Girl might have stemmed from. Honestly, as I watched this I found myself believing Veda wrote her own lines, because they're so much like what a child would say, especially in her wonderful description of Heaven.

I always used to think the title My Girl referred to her being Thomas's girl, then for a while I thought it referred to her being her dad's girl, and now I'm thinking that she's really the audience's girl. We as the audience are privileged to see all her dreams and secrets and fears that her writing teacher asks for but is only blessed enough to see after she confronts those fears at the very end of the movie.

Unless you can find a film that does a better job of addressing these issues, I would recommend My Girl as a must-see.

5 out of 5 stars THE BIGGEST NUMBER IN THE WORLD IS WHAT THIS FILM SHOULD GET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2007-04-05

I LOVE MY GIRL!!!!This is my favorite movie of all time! And that won't ever change! I just saw it again[I KNOW I WATCHED IT ABOUT 20 TIMES!]and I started bawling[crying] at the scene when Vada is talking and crying over Thomas J.'s coffin during his funeral.I cry hard when I see that scene. This movie is very FUNNY! I wish there was a My Girl 3!!! Do NOT MISS THIS FILM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

5 out of 5 stars Reviewer.......2007-03-22

Fantastic family film, excellent acting and strong plot. Humourous but also very real to life. The only element that may concern some parents is the girl reveals her panties getting into bed. But if a girl in her underwear does not concern you, this is a remarkably enjoyable family drama.

5 out of 5 stars Recomended.......2007-03-09

This is a good family movie, with a great cast. It tells a good story, as it is narrated by the character. I love this movie and I recomend it to any movie lover.

5 out of 5 stars My Girl and My Girl 2 are both moving films and to cherish for years to come........2007-06-29

My Girl:

The first movie was from 1991, but it takes place in the early seventies. Anna Chlumsky stars in her first movie and does a darn good job playing Vada Sultenfuss, but of course she has already famous stars acting with her: Dan Aykroyd, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Macaulay Culkin.

The movie starts out with Jamie Lee Curtis (Shelly) who is a cosmetician and wants to be hired by Dan Aykroyd (Vada's father) who is the town's mortician. He ends up hiring the sexy woman while Vada spends her summer with the boy next door who happens to be her best friend, Thomas J. played by Macaulay Culkin.

Upset over the death of her mother, and believes it is her fault, Vada is obsessed with death. And because her father and Shelly start dating and he buys her an engagement ring, Vada runs away from home. But she returns home and starts to get along with Shelly. But once she becomes friends with Shelly, her best friend, Thomas J. gets stung by bees and dies in the woods. Not wanting to believe that his death is real, she talks to him while at the funeral as he lies in his coffin. She runs away again but returns to her adult writing class with a poem. Though she may not be an adult, she took this class because she has a crush on the teacher, but she also enjoys writing. This is the poem that she wrote expressing her feelings for Thomas J. who idolized her when they were friends.

Weeping willow with your tears running down

Why do you always weep and frown?

Is it because he loved you one day?

Is it because he could not stay?

On your branches he would swing

Do you long for the happiness that they would bring?

If you found shelter in your shade

If you thought his laughter would never fade

Weeping willow stop your tears

There is something to calm your fears

If you think that as your two forever part

And I know he'll always be in your heart

My Girl 2:

The second movie was from 1994 but was based in the mid seventies. Many of the characters in the second movie were also in the first movie. But there are two newcomers: Austin O'Brien who plays Nick and his mother Rose played by Christine Ebersol.

Vada is given an assignment in her class at school. The assignment is to write about someone you admire and has achieved something, but who you have never met. Vada decides to write about her mother. Because her mother is from Los Angeles, she wants to go to L.A. to find out more about her. Her nervous father is paranoid to let his 13 year-old daughter on a plane to California by herself, but she ends up going and stays with her uncle and his girlfriend and his girlfriend's son, Nick.

Vada and Nick spend their spring break together hoping to find information on Vada's mother. At first they quarrel and don't have much in common, but they start to get along. Vada makes some surprising discoveries about her mother and she learns more about herself. No longer a child, but not quite an adult, its tough being a young girl in the real world, but somehow she manages to find her way. This is the song that her mother sings in a home movie she watches and the same song she sings to her newborn baby brother.

Smile though your heart is aching

Smile even though it's breaking

Although a tear

Maybe ever so near

That's the time you must keep on trying

Smile what's the use of crying

You'll find that life is still worthwhile

If you just smile

Vada ended up getting an A+ on her report and this is what she found out about her mother. "She may not have her footprints in the cement, but she definitely left her imprint on the world. And I told him (her teacher) that even though it sounds conceded, her greatest achievement was me."

Both movies are great to watch over and over again. These movies I would say are for 8-14 year-olds, but I think many people of all ages would enjoy watching them.

Clever and often funny, My Date with Drew is a kind of slapdash excuse for a documentary feature, albeit one with a few surprises. A 27-year-old aspiring filmmaker, Brian Herzlinger, wins $1,100 on a game show (where the winning answer happened to be "Drew Barrymore"), and decides to use it to make a film about his aspiration to ask Barrymore out on a date. Enlisting a few eager and bemused producers and directors as allies, Herzlinger goes through a self-improvement campaign--exercising, finding out what Barrymore likes--while also interviewing people who know her, including actor Eric Roberts and Charlie's Angels co-screenwriter John August. The tricky part, of course, is not giving anyone the impression that Herzlinger is just a sophisticated stalker, especially when he's busy wrangling invitations to celebrity parties so he can get near the object of his lifelong crush. The film runs a little low on steam in its second half, and the suggestion that the movie is really about the beautiful pursuit of a worthwhile dream, and not just a first-feature gimmick, gets a little precious. But My Date with Drew is certainly worth seeing for its conclusion. --Tom Keogh

Description

There are Dreamers and there are Believers...and there are those like Brian Herzinger, the Dream-Believers. Since the second grade, Brian has had a crush on Drew Barrymore and now 20 years later he wants to fulfill his dream by asking her on a date.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Quite Lovely.......2007-04-12

Brian Herzlinger has had a crush on Drew Barrimore since he was nine years old and at twenty-seven, he's ready to do something about it: armed with $1,100 and a video camera he must return to Circuit City in 30 days, he decides to try to get a date with her--and document the process.

The obstacles are obvious: Herzlinger doesn't know Drew Barrimore, he's broke, not particularly cute and she is, well, a movie star who also happens to be in a "very committed relationship."

Brian is surprisingly candid and realistic about his situation and his own flaws--which makes the viewer root for him. His adventures and misadventures are often hilarious and the end is sweet and funny. This is a good movie about going in search of your dreams, no matter the obstacles.

My Date with Drew

I just finished watching both My Date with Drew and Scoop with and by Woody Allen. I definitely prefer My Date with Drew even though I am a great fan of Woody Allen. You could even say that both films are date films, since, as usual, Woody gets to hang around with a vivacious actress, Scarlett Johansson, in this case, and use self-deprecating humor.

The more I think of it, the more parallels do I find between the two films: obviously both involve very funny and talented Jewish men who enjoy putting themselves down in public for a laugh.

Perhaps, since I have seen all of Woody A's films, his act seems a little stale. He and Scarlett don't seem to click but both are having fun. The problem is that they are laughing at their characters in Scoop which makes the film seem silly and clearly less original than better films like Radio Days and Purple Rose of Cairo, for example.

My Date with Drew rings true since Brian Herzlinger and his friends spend so much time talking to people who know people in Drew's entourage but have difficulty getting in contact with people who are close to her or even with Drew herself who is tremendously busy.

This is exactly how Hollywood works. Of course, actors truly experience frustration just trying to survive. Brian Herzlinger knows how to play the starving, struggling artist perfectly. He knows how to place himself in front of the camera and worry about his looks, if he should take all the hair off his body, and, most importantly, what he will say to Drew if he actually gets the date.

It reminds me of Jim Carrey in The Truman Show, doing a whole comedy routine in front of the "mirror" as he starts off his day the way he always starts off.

Also, it is comical to hear Brian explain over and over, the rather shallow excuse that he has for making the documentary: He has had a crush on Drew since around the time she starred in ET. All the childhood photos he shows of Drew and himself remind me of the films in which Woody Allen shows flashbacks to his childhood with hilarious results.

Therefore, to conclude, although I see many parallels with some of Woody Allen's films, My Date with Drew seems real and relevant and is thoroughly enjoyable.

3 out of 5 stars My Date with Drew Barrymore: "Documentary" of the YouTube Age.......2007-01-16

Well, the title of the film tells you all. `My Date with Drew' is about Brian Herzlinger who wants to have a date with Drew Barrymore, star of `ET' and `Charlie's Angels.' Can he? But wait, who is this Brian Herzlinger? And why should we care?

Brian Herzliner is an aspiring filmmaker from New Jersey, an ordinary American guy who suddenly decided to `take a risk' in life and get a date with Drew Barrymore he adores since his childhood. With $1,100 he won in the pilot of a quiz show and a help from his friends Brian tries to have a date with Drew Barrymore within 30 days.

But you might ask -- why should we care? Right, Brian is a pretty funny person, but that is not enough for anyone to make a feature film. Still I find `My Date with Drew' interesting because the film shows what people should do (or should not to do) to make it in show business, or perhaps any other business. You can get a cell phone number of a celebrity's limo driver pretty easily; you can meet a beautician who knows Hollywood stars, or even screenwriters if you're lucky, but that does not necessarily mean that you can attain your goal. You need a right time and right place. The phrase may sound clichéd, but it is true as far as this documentary goes.

For fans of charming Drew Barrymore, my advice is this: You should watch it. Skip the part of Brian's "self-improvement," his fortune teller episode or a mock date with Drew's look-alike. But the film is worth your viewing because of its concluding part.

`My Date with Drew' is pretty funny, entertaining film by a person who knows how to entertain viewers. Not that what Brian Herzlinger does is all recommendable. I don't use the word `stalking,' but surely not everything he does is morally desirable. The film is based on one clever idea that no one is likely to repeat now, and the cleverness includes the choice of the star (`My Date with Julia" or "My Date with Cameron" sounds impossible, bringing the whole premise to the fictional world of `Notting Hill'). It is truly a "documentary" film of the YouTube age.

3 out of 5 stars A Field Guide To Meeting Your Dream Girl.......2007-01-13

First let me begin by saying that I didn't want to waste my time viewing this film. Why would I want to sit through a true life documentary film about an obsessive-compulsive twenty something fan still suffering from a childhood crush with an actress (Drew Barrymore) I didn't really like anyway. The only reason I did was because my daughter wanted me to watch it with her, so it was one of those quality time together opportunities I simply couldn't pass on.

With that all said I must now admit that I actually ended up enjoying the low-budget '03 movie, `My Date with Drew.' The main reason for this unexpected change in opinion was the star of the film, the obsessive-compulsive playing himself, Brian Herzlinger. Watching him experiencing the full range of human emotions in his quest for his dream date was an absolute delight.

The film also reveals a delightful glimpse into the quirky machinations of the Hollywood lifestyle and the all important process of discovering "who knows who" as he assembles a string of personal connections that will ultimately lead to a face to face introduction with his beloved Drew. Watch Brian and his group of co-conspirators comb the entertainment industry in search of a way to contact the elusive star. Radio interviews, billboards, websites, endless phone calls and fake backstage passes to private parties lead the viewer on a dizzying chase as time and money evaporate and all appears lost.

Definitely worth a viewing and just think how much more you'll enjoy it if you happen to be a Drew Barrymore fan.

5 out of 5 stars I SO love My Girl.......2007-02-17

I really love My Girl. The first one was SO sad.But I still like it better then the second one.At the begining of the film, you would think Vada and Nick are NO match. But you can tell,Nick and Vada begin to enjoy being around each other.I noticed,Nick kind of developes a little... crush on Vada.....?I really love this movie. But I really wish there was a My Girl 3.DON'T MISS THIS FILM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

4 out of 5 stars Confused About Identity.......2006-09-03

"My Girl 2" continues the story of Vada Sultenfuss and her family, set two or so years on from the original. It's a pretty good sequel, I thought.

Vada (Anna Chlumsky) is a little older and a little more sophisticated these days, it seems. She's not just writing poetry, she's reading it, her favorite poet being a certain Alfred Biedermeier. Her father's (Dan Aykroyd's) new wife (Jamie Lee Curtis) is due to have a baby, and soon Vada will be a big sister. In between school and home, she's trying to figure out boys, but hasn't quite got there yet.

At school, Vada is given an assignment. She has to write an essay on someone who she admires and has never met. She decides to write it on her mother, who died while Vada was still a baby. Vada knows virtually nothing about her mother, and decides to travel to California, where her mother went to school. She stays with her uncle, and with the help of a certain young man (Austin O' Brian) tracks down her mother's old friends. What Vada discovers shocks her, some of it disgusts and confuses her. Still, there are other discoveries that fill her with pride.

"My Girl 2" is a little different to the first. In terms of the style of the film, it looks a little fresher, a little less dusty. Perhaps it's the California scenery, I don't know. It still has that retro feel, which is good (the film is set in the 1970s). Also, it feels a little more subdued. Vada/Anna isn't quite as hyper as she was in the first film, if that makes sense. She's still a great actress, and a shame she hasn't really been in anything lately.

Rather than being in a set few places, like the first film was, "My Girl 2" goes from one place to another, which kind of alters the way the film flows. I wouldn't say there is a lot of chemistry between Anna Chlumsky's "love interest" Austin O'Brien, but considering they're almost cousins-in-law that's probably not such a bad thing.

If you enjoyed the first film, "My Girl 2" is definitely worth picking up. A nice continuation of the story. Shame there wasn't a "My Girl 3", I reckon.

5 out of 5 stars I LOVE AUSTIN O'BRIEN.......2006-07-26

I LOVE THIS MOVIE I WATCHED IT WITH MY COUSINS I LOOOVE AUSTIN O'BRIEN

5 out of 5 stars Cute Sequel...But could have found a better Nick.......2006-04-23

I rented "My Girl 2" after watching "My Girl" and I really enjoyed it. I liked how they got all of the same characters from the first movie, instead of getting all new actors and actresses, because I really hate when sequels are like that. Of course, they had to get a new boy for Vada to get to know since Thomas J. died in the first one, but for goodness sakes.....GET A BETTER NICK! AUSTIN O` BRIEN WAS NOT A GOOD ACTOR IN THIS MOVIE AT ALL! MACALUAY CULKIN WAS SO MUCH BETTER THAN HE WAS. HIS HAIR WAS EXTREMELY TOO LONG, HIS MAKE-UP LOOKED TERRIBLE WHEN HE WAS ABOUT TO KISS VADA, AND HE JUST...WAS NOT A GOOD ACTOR! THERE ARE PLENTY OF BETTER YOUNG ACTORS OUT THERE THAT I WOULD HAVE CHOSEN OVER AUSTIN O` BRIEN. HE IS JUST NOT THE TYPE OF PERSON THAT I WOULD HAVE PICKED FOR THE PART OF NICK. Other than that, I really enjoyed it.. it was a sweet movie full of laughter, happiness, romance among Vada and Nick at the end of the movie and both of them getting to be cousins and I also liked how Vada finally got to know some more information about her mother. I also liked how this movie was not as sad as the first one. Overall, I would definetely recommend at least renting this movie if not going ahead and buying it.

5 out of 5 stars ...and you're gonna be in trouble!.......2007-04-19

This a great fun feelgood movie, I love it. So glad to get it on DVD. It's about a girl group reforming for a TV special, repairing their relationships after an acrimonious split at the height of their fame. Stars Judith Light, Jill Eikenberry and Sandy Duncan. The title song was an original hit by the girl group the The Angels. Also features appearances by 60s pop stalwarts such as Mary Wells and (Little) Peggy March, both in great voice.

1 out of 5 stars Good Made 4 Tv Movie- Bad DVD.......2007-03-27

Apparently Im not the only one with sound issues. On my dvd I could play it no problem. On the TV you could hear all the ambient sounds, telephones, doors slamming, but no dialog.

It is a great movie to help you remember the days before the Beatles hit the nation. When girl groups sounded fabulous and the costuming was beautiful. This story gives you a glimpse in the past with some stars that are still fun to watch. I watch it alot because it brings back great memories.

4 out of 5 stars Judy fans will be delighted.......2006-11-03

Some of Judy's finest works in great form. "A Star is Born" and "Wizard of Oz" would justify the price by themselves. The rest is great gravy.

5 out of 5 stars This is a good view of her talent.......2004-06-29

Judy was a magnificent talent with personal problems that makes it amazing that she could produce such beutiful prductions. These movies are a very good cross section of her talent. The Andy Hardy series was a wonderful joining of two great talents that represent a part of her career that many have been the happiest. There are many others that could have been chosen, but whatever was put in would require taking something out. I think "The Wizard" was the one waste, since there are much better copies out, and another Judy and Mickey would have been more fun.
But at least these are great, and others can be bought.

5 out of 5 stars Good Drama.......2007-06-13

Excellent cast. Wonderful acting. Lee Da Hae pulled off the comedic scenes nicely, and everyone else within the drama also did a very good job. From the get-go I was immersed into the story of what is "My Girl". The plotline is your typical drama, with quarreling, jealously, lovers left and right and whatnot, but this is a must see if you are a fan of any of the actors. Being rated as one of the top ten dramas in Korea in 2006, I can see why this has made it up there. Check it out and I am assured you shall be pleased. Read plently of summaries, reviews; get a feel for this drama and you'll fall in love with it.

4 out of 5 stars Good Korean Drama.......2006-12-22

I really liked this Drama;however, when I put in my 8th Disc, It messed up. The episode would automatically play, and the "English" subtitles were in Korean or Chinese. Other than that, everything was great! It came really fast.

This series is really great. I recommend it for anyone.

5 out of 5 stars My Favorite KDrama So Far.......2006-11-28

This was the first KDrama that I finished, and I have to admit that the first episode didn't draw me in but I persisted and I am so glad that I did. I LOVE this KDrama.. even more than Full House. It's a cute drama filled with laughter and poignant moments. The characters are all great in their roles. The best part is that nobody dies in this drama. I always hate when the main character dies from some illness...

Description

Meet the Silver Belles, five tap dancers who performed in 1930's Harlem at the famed Apollo and Cotton Club, with legendary band leaders like Cab Calloway and Duke Ellington. They have rich stories to tell about the history they made during the Harlem Renaissance, illuminated by a treasure trove of archival film and photos. Together again, after a few decades hiatus, they're dancing to standing ovations - as sassy as they ever were!

5 out of 5 stars A delight!.......2007-05-02

These ladies will make you smile with their mischievous humor and warmly told tales from their lives as dancers. A charming film, inspiring too.

4 out of 5 stars Silver Belles Rock!.......2007-01-28

I love tap dance and used to do it myself, so this documentary really resonated with me. Loved seeing the old photos of the women as young dancers at the Cotton Club...and seeing them still hoofing into their 80's. It was very heart warming. I wish there were more old footage, and a little less of them riding the bus and hailing cabs. But overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the film and recommend it to anyone who loves dance.
Don't miss the dance lesson--learn the Shim Sham Shimmy!

5 out of 5 stars Been Rich All My Life.......2007-01-15

Energizing and encouraging! Wonderful peek into the history of tap and how great to keep going no matter how old one gets. I look at this over and over again. These black women dancers had to put up with a lot, but they are not dwelling on how hard it was. They are continuing on and teaching all of us about the wonders and joys of tap dancing. Even the spiciness is done with class.

5 out of 5 stars Been Rich All My Life.......2006-12-04

This film is a wonderful depiction of Harlem, USA. For those of us who grew up in Harlem and Washington Heights in the 1930's, 40's and 50's, it is an exciting and wonderful story and brings back fond memories of an era gone by.

5 out of 5 stars Fabulous Ladies - Fabulous Film.......2006-10-22

I saw this film in a premier showing with the film maker and three of the Silver Belles present. The film was most entertaining and touching as you journey back in time with these wonderful, fiesty women. Their lives have been filled with struggles, triumphs and finally, well deserved recongnition. The audience laughed at their wit and marvelled at the story of their lives. They started their careers as very young women who were given a shot at show business in the 1930's in the hot spots of Harlem during it's Golden Age. The Cotton Club and the Apollo Theatre were their homes for many years. All of them give great credit to those who taught them 'the ropes'. They are still busy performing and passing along the heart of dance to the young dancers who are coming up today. I felt privileged to be taken on their journey and found myself, along with the rest of the audience, laughing at their tales of the old days and being touched with sadness at their losses and struggles. Better than being called 'survivors' they can be called triumphant and heroic. The sound track was wonderful and had everyone's feet tapping along. If you like dance, music, history, biography, show business or just a great story, I think you will thoroughly enjoy this film.
