Plane crashes, pickpockets, hurricanes--heaven and hell is moving to prevent our able hero Ben (Ben Affleck) from marrying his sweetie (Maura Tierney) in Savannah. At every turn he runs into someone else despairing about the woes of married life. And of course, temptation proves overwhelming in the face of traveling companion Sarah (Sandra Bullock), the wild woman whom he can't seem--or doesn't want--to lose.
After a wayward bird flies into the engine of his airplane, Ben is forced to find another way to his wedding. He finds himself stuck with Sarah, whom he carried from the plane after she was whacked in the noggin by his laptop. The heat between them is unmistakable, and the drama in the film comes from the "will he or won't he," both in terms of sleeping with Sarah and meeting up with his bride. Forces of Nature is a fun and sentimental road-trip film, but Ben is such a strait-laced noodge, you can't help but want him to fall flat on his face just a little. Bullock is the life of this film, although her free-spirited ways get a bit tired (responsibility is not all bad). The highlight of this movie, though, is definitely the cinematography. The beautiful rain shots and the colors of the scenes lend to the unsettling mood. While the jokes are not rip-roaring, Forces is to be reckoned with for those times when a lighthearted film is what you need. --Jenny Brown

You so can't go wrong with any of the Popular Mechanics For Kids series. They are very interesting, loaded with fun facts and experiences, and are carried out in an excellent format. The kid actors are friendly and enthusiastic and none of it comes off hokey or juvenial. I can't imagine a kid who wouldn't absolutely love watching these.

when nature calls, you resond with FORCE.......2007-05-05
Do you remember when that woman in tie dye puts up her left leg in that one tide commercial??? That's EXACTLY what this whole movie is like. Sandra Bullock, as usual, put up a very strong performance, but Ben Affleck (who in this movie was KINDA HEAVY AND NOT TOO SWEET) was a weak point. But anyway, back to the Tide analogy. So in the commercial, the woman gives a little scream, sways back and forth, looks like she's going to be sick, and then instead pulls a rabbit out of the dryer. Just like this movie because it's not that good until the end, and then JUST LIKE A MAGIC TRICK it all works out in the end. Still overall, I would call this a weak movie that should best be avoided.... unless you use tide and love rabbits like ME!!!!!
hilarious! ben affleck & sandra bullock ...funny! funny! funny!.......2007-03-22
"forces of nature", once again, one of my favorites because i could relate to this.
not because something extremely hilarious, outrageously crazy of travelling and meeting a handsome stranger happened to me because this part (of course!) did NOT happen to me.
but i could relate because perhaps, it has happened to people, where you are in one part of your life, thinking everything is as it should be, then, due to the forces of nature beyond our control, life and love gets turned upside down.
so, if its meant to be, it will happen.
sometimes, in life, we meet other people so in the end we can appreciate who we are meant to be with.
maybe that doesnt make sense but just watch the movie and you will know what i mean.
i loved this movie!
Dysfunctional People.......2006-12-14
I disagree with virtually all of the reviewers about this film. It was touted as a comedy and "outrageously funny". Well it wasn't overly funny and it made a real effort to be funny but the "funny" scenes were so obviously forced and so obviously dumb that they just came across as stupid. Finding a rental car is not that difficult and that is the basis for this movie. I can't believe that anyone is as stupid as these people were supposed to be. Bullock is supposed to be a free spirit but she comes across as immature, undisciplined, and self absorbed. This was a total waste of talent and Affleck and Bullock did their best but why people of their abilities agreed to appear in this film is a mystery. I think what put me off of this film is it's totally unrealistic view of marriage. Of course these are all Hollywood types where any marriage lasting longer than a month is viewed as unusual. This film would have you believe that every marriage is at its core -- unhappy and that most people are divorced or adulterers. Men and women are unhappy with their partners and anyone who gets married should expect to be unhappy -- that is the message here, but it is also how most Hollywood types view marriage. Beyond that we have the usual Hollywood view that EVERYONE smokes Marijuana or takes drugs of some sort -- EVERYBODY DOES. Well I don't think so and I thought this film was simply not funny and I don't see anything humorous about being arrested for drugs. At no level was this film realistic and none of the actions were logical or believable (imagine holding an outside wedding even though hurricane flags are flying -- is anyone really that stupid?) I gave this film 2 stars only because I watched it to the end -- why I have no idea because it wasn't worth it.
Beautiful..........2006-05-30
I truly enjoyed this movie. I found it moving, funny, and above all, beautiful. This is one of those movies that leaves me feeling something amazing for hours after it has ended. Some of these scenes were absolutely breathtaking - in particular towards the end. LOVED IT!
Amazing Cast-Average Movie.......2006-02-18
Forces of Nature, was a bit of a disappointment, considering the makeup of the cast: Ben Affleck and Sandra Bullock among others.
The movie sheds light on a man en route to Savannah, Georgia, for his wedding. On the way he meets a woman who will have a tremendous effect on him, changing his whole approach to life. Thus, the trip ends up being quite "bumpy" and with quite a few unexpected "twists and turns..."
The plot has elements of both comedy and drama making it rather difficult to label it as one or the other; it's actually a bit of both.
The acting is pretty good (but nothing great), while the plot and the dialogues are just about average.
In addition, this movie does not seem to be Sandra Bullock's type of film. Even though she is a wonderful actress, this role was not really for her and thus she is not that convincing in it.
Though the potential for a great movie was definitely there it fails to take off. A shame really...
In a nutshell, it's an ok movie, and that's about it; it lacks that extra something to put it over the top. No masterpiece here.

Very Informative.......2007-01-10
Excellent footage, scene set up, and computer graphics. You are "there" for each event. The computer graphics allow you to "see" what is happening beneath the surface during an earthquake, as well as educating you on volcanic activity. The narrative was very informative, however for some inexplicable reason the volume starts dropping at a certain point for a few minutes. A tad annoying, but easily fixed, though you might miss the first few words. There could be a tendency, when putting together a film like this, to over-dramatize, however, the filmmakers resist and we get a reasonable presentation of the facts. I would highly recommend this well done documentary. Be sure to watch the bonus features.
Not enough.......2005-03-10
This video is very short and doesn't have a lot of content. Thier are some great sceens but overall its nothing you havn't seen before. I would have liked to see some avalanches and better explanations of all natural disasters with more depth.
Excellent!!.......2005-01-12
Saw this at the Milwaukee Public Museum on IMAX screen. Oh, the wonders of nature! It will give you a deep respect for the power and the fury of Mother Nature!

Just Like Heaven
Bad romantic comedies make you scoff at their absurdity; good ones make you wish your life was that absurd. Just Like Heaven is just smart and likable enough to trigger that wishing. David (Mark Ruffalo, Collateral, You Can Count On Me) finds an amazing apartment in San Francisco--only to discover it's haunted by the spirit of the previous tenant, an overachieving doctor named Elizabeth (Reese Witherspoon, Legally Blonde, Election). There's something not quite right about Elizabeth's afterlife; against his better judgement, David agrees to help her investigate her life...but finds himself digging into his own as well. The plot takes a twist that some viewers will see coming, but Just Like Heaven doesn't rely on the surprise alone; the revelation takes the story in a new and just as entertaining direction. Witherspoon and Ruffalo are two of the best romantic leads around, but the surprise is how well their contrasting flavors (perky and moody, respectively) mesh, creating a sparky, engaging chemistry. Also featuring Dina Waters (Freaky Friday), Donal Logue (The Tao of Steve), Ben Shenkman (Angels in America), and Jon Heder (Napoleon Dynamite). Crisply directed by Mark Waters (Mean Girls), who carefully keeps the supernatural from getting silly and the romance from getting gooey. --Bret Fetzer
Win A Date With Tad Hamilton!
To improve their client's tarnished image, the managers of movie heartthrob Tad Hamilton (TV star Josh Duhamel) trump up a contest in which an innocent middle-American girl will win a date with the hunk. A West Virginia grocery clerk named Rosalee (Kate Bosworth, Blue Crush) wins, much to the dismay of her friend Pete (Topher Grace, Traffic), who's secretly in love with her. A summary of the romantic triangle that follows won't capture the charm of Win a Date with Tad Hamilton!. Though formulaic in structure, the movie is constantly surprising and engaging in its details. All romantic comedies should have such a smart script, understated but spot-on acting (Grace, Bosworth, and Duhamel are delightful and given excellent comic support from Nathan Lane, Sean Hayes, Ginnifer Goodwin, and Gary Cole), and clean, clear direction (from the director of Legally Blonde, another formulaic but irrepressibly fun movie). --Bret Fetzer
How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days
Kate Hudson twinkles as the heroine of How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, a magazine writer assigned to date a guy, make all the mistakes girls make that drive guys away (being clingy, talking in baby-talk, etc.), and record the process like a sociological experiment. However, the guy she picks--rangy Matthew McConaughey--is an advertising executive who's just bet that he can make a woman fall in love with him in ten days; if he succeeds, he'll win a huge account that will make his career. The set-up is completely absurd, but the collision of their efforts to woo and repel creates some pretty funny scenes. McConaughey's easy charm and Hudson's lightweight impishness play well together and the plot, though strictly Hollywood formula, chugs along efficiently. At moments Hudson seems to channel her mother, Goldie Hawn, to slightly unnerving effect. --Bret Fetzer
What Women Want
It must've made for a great pitch meeting: Male chauvinist advertising executive gains the ability to hear the thoughts of any woman around him. Add Mel Gibson--as Nick, the divorced "man's man" who can charm almost any woman into bed--and you've got high-concept comedy made in Hollywood heaven, right? Not necessarily. The smartest thing director Nancy Meyers did with What Women Want is dispose of this ludicrous plot contrivance before it wears out its welcome. It's fun to see Mel react to a deafening chorus of female thoughts, but his dubious "gift"--courtesy of an accidental electro-shock in his bathtub--is a mixed blessing for the audience. The women in Nick's life conveniently think in complete sitcom-friendly sentences, and the novelty quickly wears thin.
The movie improves by focusing on the fallout of Nick's predicament. Exploiting his unfair advantage, he sabotages the career of his new boss (Helen Hunt) even as he's falling in love with her; says all the right things to the aspiring actress (Marisa Tomei) who previously spurned his advances; and uses mind reading to curry favor with his 15-year-old daughter (Ashley Johnson). This two-faced scheming isn't malicious, however, and What Women Want is blessed by Gibson's amiably nuanced performance. His graceful riff on Fred Astaire is a dazzling surprise, and as Nick reforms, Gibson takes major credit for whatever depth this movie achieves. After a bit of nonsense, What Women Want has a lot to say about male and female behavior, be it noble or unappealing. It's both amusing and truthful, and that's almost as fun as a glimpse into someone else's brain. --Jeff Shannon

Just Like Heaven
A couple who live on different sides of the divide of life and death discover just how many boundaries love can cross in this romantic comic fantasy. Elizabeth (Reese Witherspoon) is a hardworking and dedicated medical resident who, after 20 hours on duty, is heading home when she falls asleep at the wheel of her car and is involved in a fatal auto accident. Several weeks later, a man named David (Mark Ruffalo) takes over the lease on Elizabeth's apartment, but he discovers that she hasn't quite vacated the building. Elizabeth's body may be dead, but her spirit is still quite lively, and her ghost is insisting that the apartment is still hers...and that she wants him to move out. David brings in Darryl (Jon Heder), an eccentric man who claims to have psychic powers, to help sweep Elizabeth's spirit out of the apartment, but she refuses to budge, certain that she can't be completely dead, despite all evidence to the contrary. As Elizabeth and David try to share the flat, they discover that their differences aren't as great as they once imagined, and they become attracted to one another. But will Elizabeth's spirit stay in the land of the living long enough for their romance to go somewhere? Just Like Heaven marked Jon Heder's first feature film role after his breakthrough appearance in the independent hit Napoleon Dynamite.

More loving, but sappy, slow & repetitive DVD.......2007-06-24
There are several menu choices...
There is the long lecture from Mark about what is yoga & his ideas of the universe... "without the sun, we're nothing... the sun is the same as the fluid in your spinal cord..." As other reviewers said it was slow & boring. The only thing I agreed with was that, "yoga isn't a goal... you can't become more enlightened by a special way, such as you can only be enlightened if you do yoga or this or that... is Buddha the only physical aspect of God? We all are... we all are perfect right now. Don't use yoga just for physical fitness, to always have goals... but to be a way to be aware of yourself & your breath... breath is life.. be happy you're alive... many people do drugs, are materialistic, etc. to avoid the suffering of life... life is suffering... the monks know this. The Dalia Lana was sad to see American were ashamed & guilty that they were not always happy while monks are told that life is suffering early on in life.
This goes on for almost an hour. The rest is more sappy & many things I didn't agree with. He sounded like he had an answer for everything & even gave his "right" opinion to all of life's questions. I didn't feel right with his energy.
There was 15 min of different tempos/styles of new age music while showing moving camera shots of beautiful photos.
There was a 40 min very slow class on yoga... he almost never called out the names & gave minimum instructions such as after showing mountain pose & standing fwd bend, he taught what LOOKED like a lunge but looked up & arms in prayer like warrior 1 but never said. He never said if the knee should be bent or not. You just did what he did when he showed it once. You would repeat each pose MANY, MANY times. He always made sure you breathed at the right time at least. He showed plank as lying totally on your stomach, then upward dog correctly & then fast to downward dog.. There are over 10 people taking the class, 1 or 2 guys, rest women in their 20s to their 70s or older. I felt worried about the older woman, but he never gave modifications or ANYTHING. Some of the other poses he showed (if you call it that) was triangle, side angle.. I forget already, but there weren't many. He would show it once & then correct people... hmmm... actually he would only put his hands on the backs of the youngest, most in shape women..... The camera moved around a lot... badly.... a lot of zooming in & out & too long, very amateur.
The best part for me was the 2 Indian musicians.. a father & son... the father on the Indian sitar? metal kinda guitar.. very large & then son on the tubla (percussion kinda like drums). The father & son are very talented & very fast, dexterous hands. The music was unbelievable... I would definitely buy a cd from them. That portion is about an hour with the father also teaching about how music is like speaking, etc.
Stop Struggling.......2006-06-01
I have never been more moved by a yoga experience. Mark Whitwell helped me understand that striving and reaching for "perfect" postures only add to suffering, while the simple practice of an appropriate sequence of asana and pranayama (posture and breathing) can remove obstacles to experiencing the joy of my everyday life. Though he comes from an ancient lineage of teachers, his wisdom strips away the cultural aspects of yoga to reveal the true heart of the practice, uniting the polarities within us so the we can be in more active relationship with ourselves and others.
here comes the sun.......2006-05-29
For people who understand that the deepest and most profound teachings usually come wrapped in very humble, deceptively simple packages, this DVD is a treasure.
I read and loved the book "Yoga of Heart" first; the DVD is a chance to get to know author, Yogi and teacher Mark Whitwell better. (and a chance to learn -- once and for all-- how to move in asana with your inhale and exhale.) Mark doesn't teach a 'brand' of yoga, he teaches the one and only Yoga -- Union.
His method of how to improve the quality of your inhalation and exhalation is for everybody; all body types and ages. But there is more than that here. He teaches that "nothing is absent."
If you want to stop seeking; if you want your patterns of thought to fall away so your Truth can reveal itself to you, try Heart of Yoga. Practice with Mark and enjoy the suppleness, intimacy, clarity and joy you will find in your yoga and your life.
body and soul.......2005-11-09
As the companion DVD to Whitwell's book of the same name, this program serves to bring yoga out of its athletic or competitive context and back home to what it was meant to be: an intimate and personal practice. This is not about using yoga to achieve some other goal, says Whitwell, but to enjoy what is fully in your grasp.
The charm of this program is that it's not heavily produced but captures the raw and energetic feel of a live workshop. Yoga of Heart serves as a wonderful introduction to and reminder of the true spirit of yoga and can help practitioners both new and seasoned dig deeper into the meaning of their practice. Retune Your Soul.......2005-08-22
What is Yoga? Mark Whitwell explains Yoga as "becoming intimate with your own life."
He teaches Hatha Yoga and uses humor and a warm teaching style to uncover the true reasons we suffer in life. Most Yoga instructors focus on technique, but Mark Whitwell goes to the heart of the matter and explains the problems of low self-esteem and why our views of the world contribute to this huge problem.
In some communities and countries, suffering is seen as the reality of life and compassion is shown to others and yourself. There is a natural surrender to the nurturing nature of love and instead of trying to escape the conflicts, you may try to uncover their true purpose in your life.
I loved his ideas about how when you love someone, "you teach them everything you love and enjoy." Mark Whitwell encourages his students to either be with someone who has similar life goals or to accept the person they are with just because they are the embodiment of love.
Through watching this DVD you may encounter the wonder of your own life. The workshops are in New Zealand and the students seem to be very dedicated to the practice. I loved the breathing exercises, balance challenges and pace of the movements. You will be standing and then progressing through a sun salutation.
There is also a moment were you are on your back doing stretches and breathing. The breath is completely integrated with the movement and I learned to take the breath first and then initiate the movement.
First, you can listen to Mark Whitwell discussing the reasons you may want to embrace an individual practice and how this will allow love to flow more naturally in your life.
There are a few beautiful moments of chanting and an amazing mini-concert where two musicians engage playfully in a sound celebration. If you love Indian music, then this will be a revelatory process through which you can finally observe how the sounds are created. I was amazed at the variety of sounds emanating from two instruments in total harmony. The instruments literally sing Sanskrit words.
Mark Whitwell seems to be very in tune with the original teachings of Yoga and he truly embodies the nurturing spirit and calm teaching style one would expect from a master teacher.
After viewing this entire DVD, I felt I had learned some of the more basic elements of why I do Yoga and my soul felt like it was retuned and vibrating at a new level of enthusiasm for life. The concepts of the male surrender to the female, is also explained, and there is an artistic free fall into sound and art at the end.
If you have any interests in "polarity" and how this works in your life, then Mark Whitwell shows how it works in Yoga. He removes all the layers of societal suppression and unveils the heart of the matter. If people tell you not to do Yoga and they seem very unhappy, that is a good clue that they have not experienced the beauty of this exercise. I feel this practice can be incorporated into your life no matter your religion or lifestyle.
It feels good to feel at peace with yourself
and Yoga will take you there.

Customer Reviews:
when nature calls, you resond with FORCE.......2007-05-05
