Being a teenager is always difficult, but imagine how complicated things must be for a teenage witch trying to fit in at a mortal high school. In this first (1996) season of CBS Television's live-action Sabrina The Teenage Witch series, Sabrina's aunts Zelda and Hilda have provided their niece with a happy, relatively normal life following the divorce of her parents, but her 16th birthday brings a big surprise--it turns out that her aunts are witches who have known all along that Sabrina is half mortal and half witch. Now that she's turning 16, Sabrina suddenly finds herself in the possession of special powers which she must develop and learn to control. Even Sabrina's cat Salem turns out to be a witch imprisoned in a cat's body. After the initial shock and denial wear off, Sabrina discovers that there are some definite benefits to being able to turn back time and cast the occasional spell on her classmates. Essentially your typical teenager, Sabrina struggles with popularity, labels, and love along a journey toward personal growth and an understanding of the value of rules, the importance of self-esteem, and the universality of guilt and making mistakes. Sometimes magic eases Sabrina's way, while other times it seems only to complicate things. Whether hanging out in the world of high school and American suburbia, the red planet Mars, or the surreal Pleasure dome where a witch can have absolutely anything she wants, Sabrina is really just an average teenage witch struggling through adolescence. (Ages 8 and older) --Tami HoriuchiDescription
When Sabrina Spellman is informed by her aunts, Hilda and Zelda, that she is a witch on her 16th birthday, she is hesitant to believe them. Having been sent to live with them in Massachusetts by her Warlock father and mortal mother, Sabrina learns the tricks of magic in order to receive her witch's license. Along the way, she gets into many scrapes while figuring out how certain spells work. She also has to keep the secret from her boyfriend, Harvey, friends Jenny and later Valerie, stuck-up nemesis Libby, and her ever-suspicious vice-principal, Mr. Kraft.

Sabrina the Teenage Witch is turning 13 years old and she's off to the Witch Academy (suggestive of Harry Potter's Hogwarts School) to learn the three principles of witchdom: to use magic wisely, be true to one's friends, and be true to one's self. Feeling inferior because she's only half-witch, Sabrina conceals her mixed heritage and manages to rise to a position of popularity. Sabrina joins her new friends in making fun of Nicole, a "bookworm" who doesn't fit in, but, when Sabrina discovers that Nicole is a half-witch like herself, the pair journeys to the witches' realm in hopes of becoming full witches. The question is, is the cost of becoming a full witch worth the price of their newfound friendship? This Nickelodeon feature-length Sabrina the Teenage Witch follows three previous animated shows and a live action program based on the original 1962 Sabrina the Teenage Witch comic. (Ages 6 and older) --Tami HoriuchiDescription
Get ready for magical fun with one of the coolest spell-casters around!Join Sabrina on the broomstick ride of her life at Witch Academy, where she learns the three golden rules of "witchdom": Use your magic wisely, be true to your friends and, most of all, be true to yourself! Sabrina is smart, funny and just like every other girl her age, with one small exception: She's a witch! Well, actually, the term "half-witch" would be more precise. And that's exactly the problem - she's convinced that none of the girls at her new witch school will accept her if they learn that she's half-mortal. But Sabrina has a plan that's guaranteed to make her a permanent part of the popular crowd. Follow Sabrina on her most fantastic adventure ever!
Customer Reviews:
Nice movie!.......2004-11-04
Many mistakes, but ok..........2003-05-20
Better than the cartoon series.......2003-05-16
The voices are different, however. Emily Hart, Melissa's younger sister, did the voice of cartoon Sabrina in the series, while Melissa did the voices for Aunts Hilda and Zelda. Not on this DVD, but that doesn't matter. Salem sounds more like Paul Lynde, but that's ok too.
Buy it, buy it, buy it!

Groove Squad
When a trio of cheerleaders gets zapped by a jolt of electricity while at a local hairdresser, a lot more changes than just their hair styles. Endowed with special powers like X-ray vision, super strength, and the ability to fly; cheerleaders Christy (voiced by Jennifer Love Hewitt), Ping, and McKenzie soon find themselves with a responsibility even greater than winning the cheerleading championship--thwarting the evil Dr. Nightingale's plans for total world domination. As the trio explores their newfound superhero powers, they learn the value of teamwork and perseverance. The Nickelodeon Groove Squad girls may be stereotypically obsessed with their looks and popularity, but much like Kim Possible, the group quickly proves to be an athletic group of women serious about the sport of cheering and their responsibility to society. Popular teen lingo pervades this feature-length presentation that's packed with humorous details like flower power hippies, a fully equipped car à la James Bond, and a character who sounds like Austin Powers.
