In 1998 a concert at the Royal Albert Hall celebrated Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber's 50th birthday and featured more than two hours of hits from a body of work spanning almost three decades. In this keepsake of a memorable night, star after star steps on to a massive, Eurovision-style set to revisit golden moments in their long association with Britain's most successful composer of musicals. Elaine Paige in big frocks and an even bigger voice delivers "Don't Cry for Me, Argentina" and "Memory" with her usual power; Michael Ball and Donny Osmond stretch the last vestiges of boyish charm to the very limits but still sound great; and Boyzone gets the youth vote. Then there are Kiri Te Kanawa, Bonnie Tyler, Tina Arena, and, of course, another encore for brother Julian Lloyd Webber and those Variations on the cello. But the stars are Sir Andrew's ex-wife Sarah Brightman in an outstanding selection from The Phantom of the Opera (probably his best work), Antonio Banderas (who really can sing), and Glenn Close, a stupendous, moving Norma Desmond in songs from Sunset Boulevard. All in all, a deserved celebration for someone who has given so many people a great deal of pleasure, and a treat for musicals fans of all ages. --Piers Ford

Description
When Martin Scorsese, one of the world's most skillful and respected directors, reunited with two-time Oscar-winner Robert De Niro in GoodFellas, the result was one of the most powerful films of the year. Based on the true-life best seller Wiseguy by Nicholas Pileggi and backed by a dynamic pop/rock oldies soundtrack, critics and filmgoers alike declared GoodFellas great. It was named 1990's best film by the New York, Los Angeles and National Society of Film Critics. And it earned six Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture and Best Director. Robert De Niro received wide recognition for his performance as veteran criminal Jimmy "The Gent" Conway. And as the volatile Tommy DeVito, Joe Pesci walked off with the Best Supporting Actor Oscar. Academy Award nominee Lorraine Bracco, Ray Liotta and Paul Sorvino also turned in electrifying performances. You have to see it to believe it - then watch it again. GoodFellas explores the criminal life like no other movie.

The Cornerstone of Your HD DVD collection!.......2007-06-15
Ray Liotta and Lorraine Brocco are simply amazing and they couldn't look any better than they do on HD DVD! This title is a classic and the HD transfer, though a little dark is incredible! I can watch this film over and over and I'm sure you can too. Joe Pesci is merciless in Goodfellas! As in any mob, there is always at least one guy with a short fuse; The mob culture couldn't be portrayed any better. HD DVD only enhances the enjoyment of this film, its like the icing on the cake! Be sure to accompany this HD DVD with Casino. As one previous reviewer wrote, its a Mob HIT! Bring on Scarface!
Goodfellas. HD. What more do you want?!.......2007-05-31
After picking up The Departed in HD DVD, I got a hankerin for more Scorsese. I wasn't aware that Goodfellas had been released in HD DVD until I caught it out of the corner of my eye at my local Target. I was thrilled and the movie didn't dissapoint. It's as captivating as it was when I first saw it, and now it's been polished for the new era in home theater. Beautiful visuals and crisp sound. A must-have for HD DVD
If you loved Goodfellas when it first came out, get this, you owe it to yourself.
Captivating from Start to Finish.......2007-05-28
I can't say enough about how well this film turned out. This movie always has something going on in so many different circumstances, and draws you into such a sense of normalcy within a completely extraordinarily abnormal lifestyle.
The story's narration plays uniquely well throughout the film. And the film seems to morph throughout its "life" in a very intelligent manner.
Just about every frame of this film can induce positive in-depth discussion...too much to say in a single review - you really should just see this movie for yourself!
The HD DVD transfer quality is outstanding! Visually compelling artistic sweeps coupled with production sets and performances that make you feel "right at home" give "GoodFellas" an unmatched sense of epic realism!
There is a vertical mid-screen stripe of missing picture which runs from 1:16:37 to 1:16:42, but upon searching the internet before contacting Warner to ask if it's a disc issue, I find that it has existed since the original theatrical version and has also been present on every other format which the film has been released on so far as well. This does not break the movie by any means - some claim to have never noticed (I don't see how) - I'm just surprised that nobody has taken the time to sit down and interpolate what appears to be a simple fix for a five-second segment of the movie.
The DD+ 5.1 audio track is very rich, clear and enveloping...it sounds remarkable, every bit!
Extras include two commentaries, three cast and crew documentaries, a storyboard-to-screen comparison and a theatrical trailer.
This is a top quality, amazing two hour and twenty-five minute film. I so highly recommend "GoodFellas".
very nice.......2007-04-17
having not seen this movie i decided to purchase it after i had been told what a good movie it is. on that note, being an hd dvd, and not seeing the dvd version, i can tell you that as old as this movie is, being on hd dvd, looks like a movie that just came out, you cant even tell its an older movie. all in all this is a very good movie, and i love my hd dvd player more and more with every hd dvd purchased. HD DVD is definetly better than blu-ray...if you remember antthing from this review, remember that...
Classic.......2007-03-18
The movie remains a classic....a little disappointed withthe HD DVD...not many extras or improvement in picture quality.

scooby meets tron.......2007-02-05
This is one the several movies in the poplar cartoon Scooby Doo movie series. A word of warning this movie has several parts with mild cartoon violence, mild scary images and mild thematic elements which might make this movie to dark and intense for kids under the age of 7 unless supervised by at least two parents or guardians. In this movie Scooby and the gang go to Hawaii were and ancient tike god is terrorizing the locals can scobby and the gain stop this terror and solve the mystery find out in the exciting conclusion.
GOOD CONCEPT.......2007-01-20
SCOOBY DOO
AND THE CYBER CHASE
I was in Wal-Mart the other day when I noticed a Scooby Doo movie was on sale for $4.88, so naturally I had to get it. I remember when I was a kid I loved Scooby Doo so I couldn't pass on this at such a low price. The film is about Scooby and the gang going to visit a friend of there's that is creating a game based after their mysteries. After arriving there they find that a cyber ghost called the Phantom Virus is terrorizing the place so naturally they decide to try and catch him. The thing is, they get zapped into the computer game which some how can transfer real things in and out of it by using a gun looking thing. Once in the game they have to travel threw ten levels seeking Scooby snacks in each to go to the next. To be honest the idea is great but it was executed poorly, if it would have been done correctly it could have been as good as the Scooby shows I watched growing up. They even brought back some villains from the old classic episodes like the Creeper, so the potential was there. I guess the fault rests on the shoulders of writer Mark Turosz and director Jim Stenstrum, they did pretty good I guess but could have done better. In all this was a decent film but compared to the ones I grew up watching this doesn't compare,
Acceptable, But Not Great.......2006-07-11
If you follow my reviews, you know that I really liked "Zombie Island" and "Witch's Ghost," and that I didn't care much for "Alien Invaders." While this 4th chapter is possibly a step up from "Alien Invaders," it fails to reach the dramatic and suspenseful and even comical levels of the 1st 2 chapters. Scooby and the gang go to meet a friend at a university. After a somewhat tense moment with an uptight but possibly virtuous security guard, they meet their friend Erick, his friend Bill, and their professor. They explain the existence of a phantom virus (that we have already met). And we are told that someone must have created it. Many sparks of Scooby's former days are gone, and even the appetites of Scooby and Shaggy don't bring the laughs they once did. (Compare their eating scene here to their much better one in "Witch's Ghost!") Well, Scooby and the gang somehow get zapped into a video game. While this may work for some, it doesn't work for me. Perhaps I am too old school, but this takes away too much credibility. To be sure, "Zombie Island" and "Witch's Ghost" did cross the boundaries of believable in some ways. But the major difference is that they kept the story plausible for so long, and then gradually eased the implausible aspects in. It's often a challenge, but it can be done. (It just isn't in this 4th chapter.) On the plus side however, this enables the gang to go through a series of different adventures while we wonder who zapped them in. Sadly, another mistake is that it becomes virtually obvious who did it in the very 1st of several levels. Call me a perfectionist, but they could have AT LEAST waited until the 2nd level before they gave any clues. (Let alone such an obvious one!) If we are willing to overlook this, we may find it interesting to see the gang go from the moon, to Ancient Rome, to the age of dinosaurs, and a number of different adventures. Finally, they reach the last level Cyber Land. After meeting their cyber doubles (who for the most part look like the Scooby gang from the original episodes) they learn that they must defeat the monsters on the last level to exit the game. I'll admit it was nice to see some monsters from their past (including the Creeper and the Tar Monster). As we approach the danger point of revealing the ending, it's somewhat anticlimactic seeing that even a fool would have known so long ago who created the virus. As I said, this 4th chapter is acceptable, but not great. Young children will probably like it, but the cutoff age may be surprisingly young. Fortunately, the later Scooby movies were to improve. Thank goodness for the excellent 5th chapter "Legend of the Vampire" and the surprisingly good 8th chapter "Aloha Scooby Doo."
If you're 5 - 14 or just a Scooby fan you'll problemly love this film!!.......2006-06-11
I usually could solve the mysteries within 10 minutes. But this movie kept me guessing. It was really funny to see the characters more modernized in this, and what the retro counterparts looked like. The kids love it; they had asked to watch it twice this week. They can never get enough of Scooby, most of the DVDs related to this famous dog are close to being worn out.
While this was a fun movie, the only complaint that I had about it was Shaggy's voice. I know it's not Casey Kasem, and it's too obvious. But once you get past that, it's not a problem. The other characters are voiced decently (they have had plenty of people voicing Velma and Daphne, but if they replaced Fred's voice, it would be a gaping hole--Frank Welker's voice is very key to the character). It's nice to know that some things don't change (like Fred being "all-ego"). But the idea of seeing him sans-ascot was pretty gutsy (that ridiculous red ascot MADE Fred in the original series!). Scooby-Doo sounded the same, and he was just as love-able as ever (I never liked the cartoon much until I was the live-action film, but I ALWAYS loved Scooby!!!). Velma, however, is still my favorite character--she's smart, and sometimes has great one-liners. Daphne, for once, isn't the damsel-in-distress---she's resourceful and smarter than her cyber-counterpart. Fred was pretty cool, and Shaggy, as always, is a scene-stealer, but he's Shaggy--he doesn't need a reason.
Other than that this was a decent film--plenty of laughs, and lots of adventure. If you like vintage Scooby-Doo, then this movie might peak your interest. The animation is great-and just as colorful as the original! It's a cyber chase film definitely worth a look at.
a good movie!.......2005-12-08
When Scooby and the gang are zapped in cyber land, they must finish all the levels in oder to go back in time.

As Ben Stein notes in his introduction, Totally Awesome has a lot in common with "the great teen movies of the 1980s," like Dirty Dancing, Footloose, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, The Karate Kid, and Teen Wolf. (To that list, you can add Pretty in Pink, Soul Man, Weird Science, and Some Kind of Wonderful.) He doesn't let on that it's a spoof, presenting it as a lost classic from 1986. As with Footloose--or 1990's Beverly Hills 90210--two siblings move to a new town just in time for the school year. In this case, Charlie (Mikey Day) and Lori (Dominique Swain) relocate from Pennsylvania to California. He's a senior, she's a junior. She wants to dance. He just wants to be cool, like Kipp (Joey Kern) and girlfriend Kimberly (Brittany Daniel). Naturally, dancing is not allowed. As expected, the two plucky teens find ways to achieve their goals. Just as predictable as the plot is the dialogue, which couldn't be clunkier, and the acting, which couldn't be more over-the-top (Swain's screaming, for instance, get old fast). Still, like the Scary Movie series it emulates, there's a laugh or two to be had, and Day is a likable lead. Written and directed by Neil Brennan (Half Baked, Chappelle's Show), this VH1 production features 1980s tunes from the likes of A-Ha, Cinderella, Wang Chung, and Katrina and the Waves, along with appearances from Chris Kattan, Tracy Morgan, James Hong, and Tone-Loc performing "Crazy Stuff," the prototype for "Wild Thing." --Kathleen C. Fennessy
Description
Remember 80's movies? Let VH-1 take you back to a time when the hair was big and the shorts were small. From the co-creator of Chappelle's Show, this hilarious send-up of 1980's teen movies has it all - the music, dancing, the fashion and, of course, the lingo. Whether you were preppy or new wave, this movie will be awesome, Totally Awesome.

Lives up to the title.......2007-05-13
This movie is fantastic. Sure the acting stinks-that the way the movies of the 80s were. This is well worth buying and will make a great movie to watch on a long day.
AWFUL.......2007-04-16
It is an insult that they try to pass this off as comedy. The story was none existant, and the acting was appauling. As if movies like "Scary Movie", "Not Another Teen Movie", "Date Movie" and "Epic Movie", and all the other nauseating cookie cutter sequels they spawned weren't bad enough, VH1 puts out this 90 minute borefest. Instead of doing the same lame obvious "jokes" over and over try coming up with an original comedy. This is not even worth 1 star.
funny stuff here if you like scary movie type humor.......2007-03-30
lot of silly laughing by actors ....over the top performances seems like thier were pushed to hard by the director to overdue a line ....lol the actors are a little to old to be high school ???
Totally Awesome Says It All.......2007-03-14
This is a VH1 Original. I saw this on VH1 and waited for it to rerun. Unlike every other thing on VH1, it didn't. So I bought it. It puts together a ton of great 80s movies (Not another teen movie style) for great entertainment. It has all your favorite characters, with some slight exaggerations of course. If you like slapstick humor and/or 80s movies you will love this.
I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because it could have a few more familiar references in it. Great overall!!!

Gunderson went on to do 3 more of these and the cool black guy went on to do a showtime show. Kimberly went on to do Pittsburgh steamer videos.

Regardless of its critical roasting, Dreamcatcher is a must-see for Stephen King fans. In adapting King's epic novel (itself an amalgam of familiar King plotlines), director Lawrence Kasdan and cowriter William Goldman sacrificed much of the character depth that gave the story its crucial humanity, resulting in a tame frightfest about four longtime friends (Damian Lewis, Jason Lee, Thomas Jane, Timothy Olyphant) whose past--and a shared gift of telepathy--connects them to a present-day alien invasion in the snowy forests of Maine. Like an ambitious episode of The X-Files, this slick production offers slimy "weasels" that gestate in human bowels; ominous aliens who seize control of bodies and minds; a secret military strike (led by Morgan Freeman) against the invaders; and enough gross-out humor to satisfy jaded horror buffs. Unfortunately, it just isn't scary. Despite its A-list advantages, Dreamcatcher works best as a glorified B-movie, likely to benefit from lowered expectations. --Jeff Shannon
Description
Four young friends perform a heroic act and are changed forever by the uncanny powers they gain in return. Years later, on a hunting trip in the Maine woods, they are overtaken by a blizzard, a vicious storm in which something much more ominous moves. Challenged to stop a deadly alien force, they confront an unparalleled horror, with the fate of the world in the balance.
Customer Reviews:
READ THE BOOK FIRST!!!.......2007-06-29
I just finished the book and I would give it 4+ stars. If you don't read the book you could be lost wondering what in the hell is going on during the movie. The movie was entertaining but fell way short of what it could have been. If your looking for a great movie look else where. If you looking for a little fun and entertainment I would recommend this movie. Read the book first though.
Disappointing.......2007-04-03
This movie could have been so much better. It started out fairly well but just didn't hold together after the initial introduction. The movie lost me completely in the bathroom scene. You've got a monster trapped in the toilet, but that toothpick on the floor is out of your reach, and you need it so badly that you let the monster out to get it? You have to ask yourself, "What's WRONG with this person?"
Morgan Freeman's performance in this movie was also a big disappointment. He's such a talented actor, but here he seems to be just going through the motions. His character just falls flat. And as noted in an earlier review, the hair and eyebrows make him look silly and cartoonish.
No big surprises in the final battle sequence. You pretty much know by this point who the two sides are going to be. But that last little bit after the fight - whose idea was that? I just wanted to shout at the television, "What? NO! That CAN'T be the end!" What a let-down.
A stupid movie.......2007-03-26
I don't like it. The story sounds unoriginal. I saw the summary to the book (which I have not read and never will), and I can say that it is one of King's worst ideas. The movie's plot is worse. I advise you to stay away and never watch this crap.
Dreamcatcher - the movie.......2007-03-11
Seems to chop up the story from the Stephen King novel it is based off of, but don't they always? Four friends who were bonded at childhood by a special friend who called himself "Duddits" go to an annual cabin for a hunting and camping excursion. Suddenly animals in the forest are running for their lives, and a hunter making strange sounds has come to their camp. Rick McCarthy seems to be ill, but this guy and his belching is the least of their concerns. A destiny is revealed, as Duddits link to the realization of an alien force is about to come true. Snowy Mountains and psychological wars will be waged, and Morgan Freeman plays the captain of a specialized yet somewhat rogue military force that has overtaken the entire area. There is a lot going on so pay attention, because you might miss the entire point. The film doesn't do a great job of showing Duddits ultimate connection with everything, but it works okay. Tom Sizemore also stars as Owen, a member of the military group who realizes that one of the captured hunters (played by Thomas Jane) seems to be able to read his mind, and also seems to be showing him that his commander is out of control. The entire human race hangs in the balance! Gory weasel like creatures and of course, Aliens with BIG eyes abound. Jason Lee and Timothy Olyphant also star. Entertaining Science Fiction type movie that is kind of fun.
This is Destiny that goes DEEP!.......2007-01-05
I watched this flick years ago and recently purchased it-I loved it even more this time. Watch the alternate ending-both have deep meanings but I think the director's picked the best in the original release! If anyone doesn't get the meaning behind the plot-they need to watch it again-it helped me understand that the boys bonded for life by a (chanced?)single event...Destiny.

Considering that Rest Stop comes courtesy director John Shiban, an X-Files and Star Trek staff writer, one would expect this horror film to contain a kernel of originality, but unfortunately it is a poor conflation of Wolf Creek, Joyride, and Texas Chainsaw Massacre, among others. Nicole Carrow (Jaimie Alexander) and Jess Hilts (Joey Mendocino) are young, hopeful actors taking a road trip to Hollywood, though neither reaches their final destination. A psychotic pick-up truck driver dominates the rest stop they pull off at, often maiming his victims by hitting them with his truck, then dragging them off onto a school bus where he tortures them with drills, pincers, saws, branding irons, knives, and other tools. Jess disappears early in the film, leaving Nicole to fend for herself, often by locking herself in the dingy rest stop restroom, or by running to avoid being hit by the truck. After her attempt to call a sheriff ends in the sheriff's death, Nicole's prospects for survival dim. Graphic scenes are indeed horribly disgusting, but the torture methods are so clichéd that one wishes for more psychology behind the killer's methods to actually scare. A random scene in which Nicole hitches a ride in a motorhome with some Bible-thumping freaks further pushes the film into clichéd territory. Since Rest Stop fails to fully develop the killer or the victims' characters, it is difficult to empathize with them. Even Nicole, rendered powerless from the outset, lacks the personality to entertain through this full-length feature in which so little happens besides hunt-kill, hunt-kill. --Trinie Dalton
Description
Jess is at the wheel. Nicole rides shotgun. And at the end of the road stretching before them is glittering, glamorous Hollywood. They're on a road trip, all right...straight to hell. When the runaway lovers pause at an abandoned rest stop, Jess disappears. And someone else appears - someone with his own demented sense of fun. With drills. Staple guns. Box cutters. All the tearing, grinding, ripping tools you need to hew wood. Or metal. Or people. Especially young, pretty people just like Nicole. Raw fear rules in Rest Stop, the first film from Raw Feed, the newest brand name in horror, sci-fi and thrillers. Director John Shiban, writer and executive producer of The X-Files and Supernatural, keeps the terrors and twists coming, each out-shocking the last. Stop. Stay awhile. But don't expect to rest.

don't stop to watch this movie.......2007-05-18
This film practically made me want to vomit, not for the sick twisted horror, but for the lack of it. I have never seen a movie that was this bad. No plot, no good acting, and more holes than a comedy spoof. It is a rip off of every film that has something to do with seriel victims and driving, these include texas chainsaw massacre, wrong turn, the hills have eyes, so on and so forth. What really got me about the movie is that at any time the girl could just leave the rest area in broad daylight, but instead she watches a porno of herself that was filmed by someone else and stays at the rest area drinking wild turkey. In my opinion she deserved to die for being so dumb
Awesomely bad ripoff.......2007-04-30
Bad acting, obviously stolen horror ideas--other than that the movie is awesome! A lot of other reviewers totally bashed this flick, I thought it was very entertaining even though it reminded me of several other scary movies I've already seen.
A couple on a road trip pulls over at a rest stop to use the bathroom. The young woman comes back out to find her boyfriend has disappeared. All alone in an unfamiliar setting, the panic sets in. Some crazy guy in a yellow truck starts stalking her.
If you liked Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Joy Ride, Hostel, House of Wax, Saw, The Hitcher, Wolf Creek, Halloween, I Know What You Did Last Summer, and Friday the 13th, you'll like this movie. Unless you feel insulted that Rest Stop blatantly stole ideas from all of those films.
relentlessly stupid and sadistic.......2007-04-15
thankfully this is a very short movie. still, it's a waste of whatever part of your life it takes to watch it. it almost made this horror fan want to reevaluate their love of horror films. it's that bad. it's not scary, not funny, not sexy. nothing but stupid and sadistic. a total waste of time. and a ripoff of about 10 other bad horror movies. just terrible.
More of the same..........2007-04-12
Rest Stop is a pretty bad straight to DVD horror flick. It's the same old "redneck rampage" style serial killer flick. But the plot is just in shambles and doesn't make much sense. Only about 20 minutes of this movie is worth seeing. By the way, you know a movie is bad when Joey Lawrence is the best actor in it. I'll give it this much... there are probably two very nasty/awesome gore scenes for the slasher fans out there.
Emphasis On The "Stop".......2007-03-28
Young Nicole has decided to run away from her Texas home with her equally young boyfriend, Jess. Their plan? Drive to Hollywood and seek gainful employment as Famous Movie Stars. This one fact explains much that is wrong about the film. Not only does it immediately make the characters hard to care about, but it also foreshadows one of their biggest and most boring flaws: mind-blowing stupidity.
Nicole, at one point, hears the call of nature, and the two ill-fated young lovers stop at (dum da dum!) the Rest Stop. After Nicole uses perhaps the most nauseating toilet in southwest America, she comes outside to find that her boyfriend and his car have disappeared. Before long, she is tormented by a sadistic man in a yellow truck, an odd-ball family of fundamentalist God-thumpers, and her own crippling idiocy. To save herself, Nicole drinks an ancient bottle of liquor, watches a little T.V., cries morosely, and spends about 18 hours in the Bathroom-o'-Ba'al. Jaimie Alexander's Nicole does nothing that could be called intriguing or understandable, and (double whammy) she is horribly, horribly acted.
Penned and directed by John Shiban, "Rest Stop" has literally nothing going for it. Considering that Shiban is a veteran "X-files" scribe, the incomprehensible plot is forgiveable (I'll grant, while I'm on the subject, that various scenes given during the credits and on the disc's special features help "clear up" the ludicrous story, but I'll also say that if you have to employ extras in order to give your movie clarity, then there's something wrong). But everything else -- the disbelieving cop, the mysterious video, the school bus -- well, it's all about as interesting and creative as the scribbles on your typical public toilet stall.

Art imitates life in this romantic comedy, which casts Reynolds and Hawn as a successful Hollywood screenwriting team. Their harmonious working and romantic relationship goes south when they decide to get married after years of living together. Written by and based on the lives of writers Barry Levinson and Valerie Curtin, the film is a decidedly bittersweet affair: after all, Levinson and Curtin got married, then divorced, just like the characters in the movie. Consequently, there's less real humor than kidding as the relationship develops cracks, chinks, and leaks, before foundering altogether. Still, Reynolds and Hawn have a likable chemistry because neither is trying too hard. Watch for a particularly funny and crass cameo by Ron Silver, as a big-shot director they wind up working for. --Marshall Fine
Description
After five successful years of living and working together, a couple decide to get married. But what they don't count on is how to survive the honeymoon -- especially one that involves meeting each other's family.

ONE OF MY BEST .......2007-02-12
This is one of my best Goldie Hawn's movies.
interesting plot ....good feeling ....realistic.
Sweet Goldie and fascinating Reynolds
Chop Off the Ends and it's Pretty Good.......2006-03-16
Based on the real-life experiences of Valerie Curtin and Barry Levinson, this 1982 romantic comedy works best in the middle, when it's on the road. Burt Reynolds and Goldie Hawn are longtime screenwriting partners and roommates until Burt pushes for marriage. Goldie reluctantly agrees, and immediately after the civil ceremony the couple launches on a lengthy road trip to meet each other's parents. The trip forms the lion's share of the film, and much of it works quite well. Jessica Tandy & Barnard Hughes (as Goldie's parents in Buffalo) and Audra Lindley & Keenan Wynn (as Burt's folks in northern Virginia) absolutely steal the show. Before and after these stayovers, however, the film falls a bit flat, mainly because the Bandit and the Girl In My Soup are never particularly believable as a couple. Nonetheless, the middle of the film provides sufficient laughs to make it worth a rental. Just skip right to the train trip and turn it off when Burt and Goldie get back to L.A.
Best Friends.......2005-09-23
This movie is timeless. I thought it was hilarious when it was first released in the theaters, and found it the same all these years later. Burt Reynolds and Goldie Hawn at their best! I would say, if you enjoyed the movie Grumpy Old Men, you will find this as entertaining. I was so happy to find it on DVD and add it to my library.
One of the most underrated films........2005-03-02
Most people I know have not seen this movie. In my opinion, it is very underrated. I love it. What's funny is when they visit each other's parents. Jessica Tandy plays Goldie's mom, and she is wonderful. Goldie doesn't want to sleep with Burt in her old room at her childhood home: "This is my teenage room. It's not for sexual relations, it's for slumber parties."
Great flick! I'll second the other five star reviews........2004-02-11
But if you're looking for the scene where Goldie is briefly topless in the shower, forget the DVD. Either the widescreen format cut it off or this is the later edited for TV version. Stick to the original VHS tape version.

Fairly Good Comedy.......2003-08-31
8/31/03 The video was a "better than average" video with many action scenes of "police car chase" due to a robbery interceded by Tom Arnold who was just looking for a "donut" and ended with the money instead of the real robbers..Arnold's character also ends up with a hostage (who was carpooling and had come into the store just to get bread and roll and Danish buns)with no casualty, just more demolition work for the mechanics..Emphasis was on "small town" which had a Mall,a Sizzler,(mention of a Denny,a Gourmet Food Market,a Carnival(belonging to Arnold which had closed),a very active Barber Shop-Beauty Salon(where the hostage(a middle management executive),the kids he's car-pooling:(5): adolescent to teen) and of course the man with the gun "Arnold" purchased hair dye in aerosol cans to spray the "Van" purple vs its recently commercial paint job of green) and almost as many employees who are "policemen" as were those who would need "one'.Even the meter maid had a "state of the arts vehicle" : both her vehicle and the vehicle being pursued cars maneuvered right up the steps inside the Mall..It ends with a teen reminding the "Mogul" that the adult population in the "small town"is getting old & "moving to Florida" or "permanently exiting to Forest Lawn Cemetary" [exception being those toteing their own gun like one of the very gutzy little "Arsenic and Old Lace" ladies in the Gourmet Shop /or like Arnold's mother whom he talked to on the Beauty Salon phone and warned her not to go to the Sizzler's.She is 'solo' in the last scene in the movie with background music of the "rock song" "Tell Mama What You Need" single handedly demolishing a Sizzler ripping out its furnishings and throwing them through its window ....she hadn't been pleased with the service]and that the stores should focus on the adolescent, puberty and teen groups as the consumer to please(the business meeting at a Hammermans Gourmet Shop corporate quarters dismissed the idea of their being enough population in the the adult age gap from 30 Something -to- "the Aged" to need focus on them as consumers). The other plots are routine to most family movies:(dad puts "job/career" second to getting home early for supper when he reqalizes the kids like the man whose taken him hostage betten than himself, truly bad guys get caught, estranged people meeting again due to fate(the meter maid and the top police officer), a stong woman(Arnold's mother can beat a fleet of police officer via biteing and punching, middle management gets a chance to befavored in place of upper management) .There is novelty in the "car chase scenes" and "background music".So many issues to make you say "hmmmmm" in a movie that gets you to also say "this is unbelieveable".
when doughnuts go wrong!.......2003-06-01
this review is named what it is because theres five kids in an SUV, a criminal, a guy late for his meeting, and the crook is holding everyone hostage! What could be better! The crook is new to it, so hes asking everyone if hes going a good job and the kids are hgelping get away by painting the blue SUV purple!!!!!!!!! If I could rent it or buy it, I would buy it on DVD, but rent it on VHS.
Fun for a While but Deflates Toward the End.......2003-01-04
We thoroughly enjoyed the first part of this movie and had a lot of laughs. Tom Arnold makes a convincing "good" bad guy, and the kids help the plot along with the grumpy dad. The movie loses steam when the car chase ends and they end up in Tom Arnold's carnival, and then to the dad's executive meeting. To be honest, I gave up on the movie at that point and let the boys play the X-box, as my interest was completely lost.

Customer Reviews:
Very good DVD for ECW lovers.......2007-04-22
You must see "Forever Hardcore" if you liked this DVD. Unfortunately, Vince owns all the ECW footage, so they can't show clips of their stories. But it fills you in on a lot this DVD couldn't tell you!
Highly insightful documentary into the history of the most extreme franchise of the 90s.......2006-12-26
Where WWF (now WWE) and WCW dared not go, ECW was there. Disqualification was a thing unheard of in ECW matches, and cheesy fake-punching and fake-kicking (called "pillowstrikes" in the wrestling business) are in the sharp minority of wrestling moves, and blood is shed frequently.
I was too young to ever know ECW beyond the mentions of it on the internet and WWF (which I watched a lot back in 2000, 2001, 2002, and now again in 2005, 2006 and beyond), but this DVD does an incredible job of telling the epic story of ECW and its top wrestlers without dragging behind or missing a beat.
It literally chronicles ECW from its rise as Eastern Championship Wrestling as part of the NWA, to the influence of Paul Heyman, who helped cause it to be nicknamed Extreme Championship Wrestling, and eventually broke away and became officially Extreme Championship Wrestling. They struggled for many years, never having a pay-per-view event until very later on, and having only regional TV access, never syndication until 2000-2001
The story leaves out nothing of importance in telling of the ECW, even dedicating a portion of the documentary to the fans, who were entirely responsible for ECW's mild success, even telling of the loyal fans who went to nearly every show (including one the wrestlers called Hatman because he always wore a straw hat in the front row), bringing their own weapons (from frying pans to boat oars), holding their chairs up for wrestlers to throw other wrestlers onto, and even catching wrestlers that are thrown at them (Spike Dudley for one, being crowd-surfed around the small arena before returned safely to the ring)
The major superstars even have their own segments dedicated to telling their stories in the ring, going from ECW originals like Tommy Dreamer, Raven, Sandman, Tazz, Sabu, Shane Douglas, etc, to people better known for their WWF/WWE exploits, such as Steve Austin (later Stone Cold), Cactus Jack, The Radicalz (Chris Benoit, Dean Malenko, Eddie Guerrero), Rey Mysterio, The Dudley Boys.
The people recounting the stories in the documentary are nearly all the people who were involved with ECW, from the producers, executives and creative assistants, to the wrestlers themselves, Tommy Dreamer, Mick Foley, Chris Benoit, Rob Van Dam, Tazz, Chris Jericho, Eddie Guerrero, even Jerry Lawler (who had a feud with Tommy Dreamer and most all of ECW in 1997), Vince McMahon, Eric Bischoff, and Paul Heyman.
Paul Heyman is without a doubt the most insightful star of these interviews, as he is a great storyteller, with a powerfully emotionally charged voice that grabs your attention and keeps you listening, imitating wrestler's voices (such as Steve Austin and Terry Funk) without a hint of rancor, being as rambunctious and lewd as he can (such as saying in indirect response to Eric Bischoff saying he didn't "raid" ECW and steal its superstars, "Eric Bischoff is full of ****" or else something to similar effect)
Towards the end, you learn via footage and interviews of what began to bring down ECW. You hear first-hand from people like Tazz and Spike Dudley and others of the financial troubles with ECW which saw many wrestlers such as Bam Bam Bigelow leave to WCW for better pay, and other stay on by sheer loyalty to Paul, who commanded their loyalty and respect with loyalty and respect of his own to them, and who went without pay for weeks, even months at a time, just so ECW could continue to thrive. You learn how Paul nearly worked himself to death, working, as one wrestler (I forget who) says Paul worked 20 hours a day for ECW. It tells of the betrayal of one of ECW's original founders, courting ECW wrestlers to get them sold to WCW and WWF, and Paul forcing him to resign from his post.
At the very end, you see a very gritty piece of footage of Paul Heyman from 2001 on his ECW show, criticizing the network that finally put them on syndicated air (TNN, now Spike TV) claiming very loudly and shockingly, that TNN did not spend a penny in advertising ECW; no commercials, no advertisements, no press releases, absolutely nothing, and they even wrote in their contract that ECW could not seek a different network while they were under contract with TNN, while TNN subtly sought to buy WWF Raw is War from USA Network (which they eventually did in late 2001, and kicked ECW off the air, effectively killing it once and for all).
The documentary is well worth the money in itself, providing well edited clips of fierce matches, going into very dense detail of the history of the business, from its very rise, down to its fall and the migration of many ECW stars to WWF (as WCW had been bought out by WWF in mid 2001), with even a very touching piece of footage taken from the first monday night RAW when Paul becomes commentator with Jim Ross, where J.R. comforts Paul in a very mentorly way, telling him to keep his chin up, he'll be okay, etc.
As an added bonus to the entire thing, we get an extra DVD packed with some memorable ECW matches, chosen apparently for their greatness and impact, rather than their bloodiness. While there are still bloody and hardcore matches (obviously) some of them are of the more basic, physical kind devoid of blood, such as the ones with Tazz, and the luchadores Psycosis and Rey Mysterio
All in all, it was well worth the money, and works highly effectively in introducing newbies to ECW, or telling the whole story to hardened fans of the franchise. Most memorable of all in the DVD, which sticks with you long after watching, is the sound coming from nearly every ECW audience in any match---the chants of "E-C-W! E-C-W! E-C-W! E-C-W!" every time the match hits a high point.
Still the best feature doc the WWE has ever produced........2006-12-16
Before the debacle that was the 2006 rebirth of ECW, this 2 disc set started things in motion, as it sold like crazy and convinced Vince McMahon that a WWE produced ECW was a good idea. This R rated, three hour documentary is full of every twist and turn the original ECW went through, including the Mass Transit incident, the first ECW pay per view, and their struggles on TNN (now Spike TV).
Paul Heyman (of course) gets most of the airtime, but many of the wrestlers (the Dudleys, Tazz, Tommy Dreamer, etc.) offer very candid comments as well.
An extra disc of matches rounds out this fantastic set. If you weren't a huge ECW fan back in the day, then this won't really tickle your interest. But to any true pro wrestling fan, it's required viewing.
This Is EXTREME...But Not Perfect.......2006-07-10
This was the DVD that started the rebirth of the spirit of Extreme Championship Wrestling back into professional wrestling. Selling out in record numbers and becoming the #2 best selling DVD in WWE (they stopped getting the selling numbers when they were at less than 1,000 sales away from being #1) which lead to the ECW One Night Stand PPV, future WWE releases of ECW, and even the Hardcore Homecoming reunion tour & the Forever Hardcore documentry (which I would recommend right besides this). Here you get a history (not the complete history) of ECW and the influences it's hard on professional wrestling. You only have so much time to condense the history of ECW that they had this DVD cater to those who were under a WWE contract at the time but still, it's a great DVD set.
The documentry stars at how Paul Heyman took over the booking for Eastern Championship Wrestling from Eddie Gilbert and introduced ECW's first home grown act called The Public Enemy. From here, you'll go into ECW first major fued between Tommy Dreamer & Sandman that really "broke taboo" in the wrestling business. The importance of the fans (including good ol' Hat Guy) & city of Philidelphia are heavily discussed along with the production value, how ECW was really "reality based" television, and what made ECW stand out above the WWE & WCW. The influence of pure wrestlers such as Benoit, Malenko, Guerrero along with those such as 2 Cold Scorpio and even Faarooq...oops, I mean Ron Simmons. Extreme lucha libre was discussed as Heyman openily admits that it was Konnan who helped get these guys such as Mysterio, Psichosis, and Juventud into ECW. Also discussed is how ECW was really the beginning for Steve Austin coming into his own as his "Stone Cold" character. One of the biggest stories in ECW history was talked about as Stevie Richards & Kurt Angle himself give their accounts to the crucifixion of the Sandman including never before seen footage of the whole incident & Raven breaking character to apologize. The business relationship between WWE & ECW is also talked about including how the whole thing started with "King Mabel" which led to cross promotion on RAW, the Mind Games PPV, and eventually later Jerry Lawler himself invading ECW. The whole emotional story being ECW gaining...then losing...then gaining their Barely Legal PPV is touched apon along with the stories behind of the main events. Also you hear the behind the scenes stories of wrestlers taking jobs inside the company to help itself out. From here the downfall starts as you hear about financial problems and top wrestlers leaving the company, the entire TNN and how it didn't turn out to be as good as expected along with why Taz (World Champion) and Dudley Boyz (Tag Team Champions) left ECW after being on TNN for one week. The whole Mike Awesome/WCW story including the footage of Taz winning the title...only to be beaten by WWE Champion Triple H on SmackDown before losing the belt to Dreamer, everyone's thought on what ended ECW, and Paul Heyman's thoughts on debuting on RAW in Feburary close the documentry out.
Throughout the whole documentry you get profiles & a little history on such ECW stars like Paul Heyman & Tommy Dreamer themselves, Public Enemy, Taz, Sabu, Terry Funk, The Sandman, Mickey Whipwreck, Cactus Jack, Raven, "Extreme Superstar" Steve Austin, the bWo, the Dudleys, and Rob Van Dam. You also hear stories from these wrestlers (again, under contract to WWE) regarding personal stories from ECW such as Taz breaking his neck, Sabu getting fired, and his reign as the FTW Champion. Tommy Dreamer's account of the fued between him & Raven including the controveral lesbian storyline, RVD's feelings about his involvement at the Barely Legal PPV, Stevie Richards story behind the Blue World Order, Al Snow story of how "Head" restared his whole career, D-Von's take on the whole Mass Transit Incident along with the Dudley's account of being the most hated tag team on the planet. Also throughout this documentry, you'll hear comments from what many called "The Anti-Christ Of ECW" Eric Bischoff in regards to various subjects regarding ECW such as him "raiding" talent like Benoit, Guerrero, Malenko, and Jericho along with Rey Mysterio Jr. & the rest of the luchadors. You will also hear how Bischoff felt about ECW during the Monday Night Wars & how he felt they were never a threat and why they went out of business. You will also hear from Vince McMahon himself regarding why he would help ECW, their working relationship, and if he thinks WWE's "Attitude" came from ECW's "Revolution".
The second disc is full of classic ECW matches such as the famous Raven/Richards vs. Pitbulls Dog Collar/2 Out Of 3 Falls Match which had more cameos and plot twist than the average episode of RAW; a 2 out of 3 falls match with Mysterio vs. Psichosis to show what extreme lucha libre was all about, 2 Cold Scorpio vs. Sabu, and Mickey Whipwreck's title win against the Sandman in a ladder match unlike ladder matches you see in WCW/WWE which also had a cameo appearence from Steve Austin. Tommy Dreamer & Coach do alternative commentry on the final Dreamer vs. Raven match and the WWE invasion afterwards lead by Jerry Lawler, Taz vs. Bam Bam Bigelow's famous match from Living Dangerously is on here along with alternative commentry from Taz & Michael Cole, and the famous RVD vs. Jerry Lynn rematch from Hardcore Heaven '99 is on here with commentary from RVD & Michael Cole. Along with these matches are personal stories regarding Taz's phone call to Paul Heyman before debuting at the Royal Rumble in 2000, Chris Jericho's account of getting a flight plan revolving his "dead brother-in-law" Chris Benoit, and Stevie Richards telling his story of everything that happened between leaving ECW, WCW, and ECW again. There are also hidden extras such as the Taz/Bigelow history, RVD's scar from his match with Lynn, and Mickey Whipwreck training with the Public Enemy, and an old ECW "Pulp Fiction" promo montage they would do at the end of their shows each week.
The biggest critism I have (despite the fact that non-WWE wrestlers weren't interviews or heavily discussed) with this is that some of the facts are incorrect. Despite how WWE made it look, Anarchy Rulz wasn't Taz's last match in ECW when he ended up wrestling there for the rest of the year including a PPV match against RVD. The Tod Gordon mole story which Tod explained better on the Forever Hardcore DVD which revealed it was a work but yet WWE make it look like this was something that was really happening. And how it was made to look like Dreamer was the last ECW Champion when he was only ECW Champion for around 20 mins. But overall, a great DVD documentry.

Excellent DVD for any wrestling fan. It has alot of information about the promoter and wrestlers that made ECW what it was and is today. I enjoyed this 2 Disc DVD.
