This Norwegian comedy (nominated for an Academy Award®) concerns two men being released from a state home. Until the death of his mother, Elling rarely left the apartment where they lived; Kjell has lived in institutions most of his life and is obsessed with sex, as any virgin in his 30s might be. Thanks to a new social program, the two roommates are given an apartment in Oslo--if they can manage to live independently. At first simply answering the phone or buying groceries is a struggle, but as they taste freedom, their lives become an exciting adventure. In a Hollywood movie, these two would be cute goofballs; what makes Elling so very engaging is how genuinely awkward and uncomfortable Elling and Kjell are. Their difficulties in the world are treated with respect and realism, which makes their progress bracing and their success delightful. A charming film. --Bret Fetzer

Adam and Eve has an interesting premise with a lot of potential as a thoughtful, adult movie. Disheveled musician and college student Adam (Cameron Douglas, son of Michael Douglas) goes out of his way to meet the beautiful Eve (Emmanuelle Chriqui) on campus. In no time, the two are in love. Everything goes swimmingly except in the bedroom, where Eve asserts her right to remain a virgin until she's ready. Adam--though deferential--takes her requirement personally and demands to know what "ready" means. The pair go on like this for months, with Adam remaining true to his passion for Eve, despite howls of protest from his degenerate housemates (among them Jake Hoffman, son of Dustin Hoffman). Eve takes flak, too, from some of her own roomies, yet for awhile it appears Adam and Eve's story will include other young women inspired by Eve's insistence on respect behind closed doors. Unfortunately, writer-director Jeff Kanew (Revenge of the Nerds) elects not to go down that path and nearly derails the movie with inconsequential gross-out scenes at Adam's house. But the material dedicated to Adam and Eve's challenging relationship is discerning. --Tom KeoghDescription
In the tradition of National Lampoon's Animal House and National Lampoon's Van Wilder comes this wildly hilarious comedy about a guy who wants to date a girl who wants to wait. Adam (Cameron Douglas) is a typical college-aged guy, which is to say he wants sex 24 hours a day. But when he meets, and falls for, Eve (Emmanuelle Chriqui) a scorchingly hot co-ed who's still very attached to her virginity, the waiting game is on! While his college buddies score right and left, and campus hotties make tempting passes, Adam ponders an explosive question: Will Eve say "it's the right time," before he goes completely out of his mind?Customer Reviews:

Mother's Elling [ NON-USA FORMAT, PAL, Reg.2 Import - Finland ]
Director: Eva Isaksen Manufacturer: Universal ProductGroup: DVD Binding: DVD ASIN: B000BP5AAE |
Product Description
Finland released, PAL/Region 2 DVD: it WILL NOT play on standard US DVD player. You need multi-region PAL/NTSC DVD player to view it in USA/Canada. Languages: o Danish (subtitles) o English (subtitles) o Finnish (subtitles) o Norwegian (subtitles) o Swedish (subtitles) o Norwegian (Dolby Digital 5.1) Synopsis: Everyone who's seen the successful movie "Elling" (2000) probably remembers that Elling was a bit... attached to his late mother (to put it mildly). "Mors Elling" is based on one of author Ingvar Ambjørnsen's books written before "Brødre i blodet" (the basis for "Elling"). It tells the story of Elling, living with his mom in downtown Oslo. She knows she won't be around for ever and in an effort to get him out in the world, and help him stand on his own two feet, she buys tickets for them both for a trip to sunny Spain! What follows is a series of mishaps as we tag along with Elling through situations he's never been in before. Riding on an airplane, on the beach surrounded with topless women, the Spanish nightlife, befriending the Norwegian woman in the neighbouring hotel-room, etc. It is at times funny but never as light-hearted as the original movie. Here there is more emphasis on the seriousness of Elling's condition, and we rarely find ourselves laughing like we did with the first movie. Special Features: o Cast/Crew Interview(s) o Documentary o Interactive Menu o Scene Access

"Norway released, PAL/Region 2 DVD: it WILL NOT play on standard US DVD player. You need multi-region PAL/NTSC DVD player to view it in USA/Canada. LANGUAGES: Norwegian (Dolby Digital 5.1), Norwegian (Dolby Digital 2.0), Danish (Subtitles), English (Subtitles), Finnish (Subtitles), Norwegian (Subtitles), Swedish (Subtitles), ANAMORPHIC WIDESCREEN (1.85:1), SYNOPSIS: Elling: 40-year-old Elling--a sensitive, would-be poet, is sent to live in a state institution when his mother--who has sheltered him his entire life, dies. There he meets Kjell Bjarne, a gentle giant and female-obsessed virgin, also in his 40s.... Mother's Elling: Elling has lived with his mother all his life. Mom is the practical one, while Elling ponders the more theoretical aspects of life. He spends his time in their apartment reading books and looking at the neighbours through the living room window. Elling doesn't seem to need to be around others like most people. Elsk meg i morgen: Three years have passed since Elling moved to town together with Kjell Bjarne, his roommate from the institution at Brøynes. Elling now lives on his own in the apartment. Kjell Bjarne has moved up one floor, to Reidun and her little daughter Mojo. Elling feels like an outsider, and he isolates himself more and more. He observes humankind with astonishment, and wonders at how everyone else seems to be adjusting so well. Finally, Kjell Bjarne takes care of the situation. Elling protests, but he is still pretty happy as he is transformed into a new man, clean, fully rested and well dressed...
