Amazon.com
Road Trip is a mostly agreeable, by-the-numbers teen flick with a handful of inspired sequences, most of them involving MTV's resident disturbed soul, Tom Green. It concerns a sleepy University of Ithaca student named Josh (Breckin Meyer) who accidentally mails a video of his sexual encounter with an infatuation (Amy Smart) to his longtime girlfriend (Rachel Blanchard), who's seemingly avoiding him while at school in Austin, Texas. Naturally, he recruits some buddies--Seann William Scott as the lech, D.J. Qualls as the hopeless nerd, and Paulo Costanzo as the doper genius--to hit the open highway and intercept the package. Even more naturally, mayhem ensues: A car explodes, a bus is stolen, a nerd is deflowered, French toast is horribly violated, and an elderly man bogarts both pot and Viagra.
The film's humor is more democratic than politically correct, as everyone--women and minority characters, not just the hipster white guys--have a hand in the high jinks. Green plays Barry Manilow (no, not that one), a professional student (eight years and counting)--he relates the film's story to skeptical prospective students while leading them on a tour of the college--and thrill-seeking dork extraordinaire. In particular, in an already justly famous sequence of scenes, he sadistically anticipates and endeavors to accelerate a mouse's demise at the jaws of a python. It's very much in the vein of American Pie, perhaps a smidgen tamer, but at least its characters don't really learn any dopey lessons in the end. Director and coscreenwriter Todd Phillips, who earlier made the much-questioned documentary Frat House, again proves he's more adept at staging fictional comic sequences than real ones. --David Kronke

Pile together a blue-ribbon cast, a screenplay high in quirkiness, and the Sundance stamp of approval, and you've got yourself a crossover indie hit. That formula worked for Little Miss Sunshine, a frequently hilarious study of family dysfunction. Meet the Hoovers, an Albuquerque clan riddled with depression, hostility, and the tattered remnants of the American Dream; despite their flakiness, they manage to pile into a VW van for a weekend trek to L.A. in order to get moppet daughter Olive (Abigail Breslin) into the Little Miss Sunshine beauty pageant. Much of the pleasure of this journey comes from watching some skillful comic actors doing their thing: Greg Kinnear and Toni Collette as the parents (he's hoping to become a self-help authority), Alan Arkin as a grandfather all too willing to give uproariously inappropriate advice to a sullen teenage grandson (Paul Dano), and a subdued Steve Carell as a jilted gay professor on the verge of suicide. The film is a crowd-pleaser, and if anything is a little too eager to bend itself in the direction of quirk-loving Sundance audiences; it can feel forced. But the breezy momentum and the ingenious actors help push the material over any bumps in the road.-- Robert Horton

Description
Take a hilarious ride with the Hoovers, one of the most endearingly fractured families in comedy history.
Father Richard (Greg Kinnear) is desperately trying to sell his motivational success program...with no success. Meanwhile, "pro-honesty" mom Sheryl (Toni Collette) lends support to her eccentric family, including her depressed brother (Steve Carell), fresh out of the hospital after being jilted by his lover. Then there are the younger Hoovers?the seven-year-old, would-be beauty queen Olive (Abigail Breslin) and Dwayne (Paul Dano), a Nietzsche-reading teen who has taken a vow of silence. Topping off the family is the foul-mouthed grandfather (Alan Arkin), whose outrageous behavior recently got him evicted from his retirement home. When Olive is invited to compete in the "Little Miss Sunshine" pageant in far-off California, the family piles into their rusted-out VW bus to rally behind her?with riotously funny results.

Great show!.......2007-07-03
Hilarious, from start to finish. You listen and stare at each other in amazement that they collectively grasped the concept of the whole family on a road trip persona. It was a great show and I loved the moral of the whole thing that family comes first, no matter what!
EXCELLENT FILM.......2007-07-01
Little Miss Sunshine sounds like a cute, girly film but in fact it is an excellent film that touches so many topics. Little Olive (played by Oscar Nominee Abigail Breslin, brother of Spencer Breslin) tries out for the Little Miss Sunshine Pagent and must ride there in a car (which is like a character) with an array of interesting people. She is with her suicidal uncle, drug addicted dirty yet loving gradpa, her "I'm not talking till I get what I want" brother, her unsuccesful father who is annoying, and her loving mother who is trying her best to provide for the family. The film is fun, heartful and makes wou want more. The acting is amazing and the writing is spectacular. It deserved every Oscar it got and the Best Picture nomination. The writers masterfully switch from a depressing scene to the funniest part in the movie. AMAZING FILM
Overtly Stereotypical on Models........2007-06-27
It was an alright movie; however, that ending was not what I expected it to be for a movie entitled "Little Miss Sunshine," because there was no "Sunshine" in the end.
Just the right amount of sunshine.......2007-06-25
A very funny, occasionally moving and at times disturbing look at a typically dysfunctional family on a road trip to a beauty contest for pre-pubescent girls. The entire cast is great - Alan Arkin (who is hilarious) won the Oscar, but really any one of the six could have won. What I like about Little Miss Sunshine the most is that it's a feel-good movie that never feels corny or manipulative. The reason being that hovering around the sunshine the film casts are the dark clouds of depression, suicide, drug abuse and failure. The film could be just as easily depressing and dark as it could be sappy and sentimental, but the two polar opposites keep the other in check and create a fun, quirky atmosphere. The film isn't perfect - its comments on beauty pageants and America's obsession with winning seem a bit forced, contradictory and weigh down everything else. Despite its flaws, I dare you to watch Little Miss Sunshine without cracking a smile and feeling good. Recommended.
Black Comedy Masterpiece.......2007-06-22
Cynical, sarcastic, biting, dark, this is hands down the funniest movie of 2006. Wonderful movie, great script, great actors, what's not to love? A very smart comedy, which will have you in stitches.

For Family Guy fans, there are no freakin' sweeter words than "Never Before Seen." A triumphant homecoming for the Griffins, Stewie Griffin is not so much a movie as it is a not-yet-aired three-episode story arc enhanced with a home-video-exclusive "red carpet premiere" prologue and an epilogue (capped, of course, with a fart joke). Family Guy's resurrection is a television miracle, and its creators have rewarded the faithful by picking up right where they left off, offending any and all sensibilities (recasting Jesus as comic magician Art Metrano), dissing the celebrity disenfranchised (Ellen Cleghorne references, anyone?), and generally taking potshots at anyone on their enemies list (Stewie breaks the neck of a reporter for Entertainment Weekly, the magazine that once called Family Guy "the Awful Show They Just Keep Putting on the Air"). The Untold Story! is a star vehicle for Family Guy 's breakout character, in which the mega maniacal and matricidal infant has a Grinch-like change of heart after a near-death experience (and a disturbing encounter with Steve Allen in Hell) and, more life-altering, discovers a football-pated man who could be his father (the truth is more shocking!). As go the gags, so goes Family Guy, and there are enough good ones here to compensate for the many misfires. The Miller-esque (as in Dennis) penchant for channeling arcane pop culture can grow tiresome. But for those who do remember the words to the Who's the Boss theme song, know (or still care) who Steve Bartman is, and are always up for "a sexy party," this will be the greatest story ever untold. --Donald Liebenson

Product Description
In this exclusive 83 minute DVD premiere, featuring brand new, never before seen content, Stewie, the maniacal baby genius, is distracted from his plans for world domination when he sees a man who looks just like him on television. Convinced that this man must be his real father (after all, how could he possibly share genetic material with the dimwitted Peter?), Stewie sets off on a cross-country road trip to find him. But his incredible journey leads him to discoveries far more vile and shocking that anything found in his diaper.

A great feature presentation of arguably the best comedy animation series ever made.
The good, the bad and the hilarious .......2007-05-04
"Stewie Griffin - The Untold Story" is a big, colorful and tasty collection of everything we love about Family Guy (and I mean, certainly, open-mindness... and fart jokes). Don't miss nearly 90 minutes of insane Family Guy laughs, all combined in this work of genius. Join Stewie in his time-travel to the future, watch Cris grow even more fatter and Meg become a guy, and Stew himself - a 30 year old virgin.
Yawn........2007-05-02
Honestly, I only bought this because I heard that a David Bowie character appeared in it. When I actually watched it, I was saddened to see that it was just a few Family Guy episodes (rather boring ones, to tell the truth) that I had already seen strung together. I wouldn't say it's worth 20 bucks, but if you feel the need to watch this and you're a big Family Guy fan, go ahead, if you must...
Family Guy: The Movie Review .......2007-03-13
I saw separate pecies of this movie on TV and I must say that I am somewhat impressed. There are laughs and misses on this movie. I enjoyed most of the movie except the flashbacks and other off topic sequences. Some of them are funny at first and then get annoying. I wish I would have watched the movie on its DVD because I bet there were things on it that TV wouldn't show. So I guess if people are going to see this movie on TV I would read this review, but if you're going to rent it or buy it, I would rather read another one.

The beauty of the South American landscape and of Gael Garcia Bernal (Y Tu Mama Tambien, Bad Education) gives The Motorcycle Diaries a charisma that is decidedly apolitical. But this portrait of the young Che Guevara (later to become a militant revolutionary) is half buddy-movie, half social commentary--and while that may seem an unholy hybrid, under the guidance of Brazillian director Walter Salles (Central Station) the movie is quietly passionate. Guevara and his friend Alberto Granado (Rodrigo de la Serna, a lusty and engaging actor) set off from Buenos Aires, hoping to circumnavigate the continent on a leaky motorcycle. They end up travelling more by foot, hitchhiking, and raft, but their experience of the land and the people affects them profoundly. No movie could affect an audience the same way, but The Motorcycle Diaries gives a soulful glimpse of an awakening social conscience, and that's worth experiencing. --Bret Fetzer
Customer Reviews:
beautiful movie.......2007-06-22
I thought this was an extrordinarily beautiful movie. The cinematography, music, acting, and pace are all superb. I'll leave out the Guevara/Castro rant, since this is not the appropriate forum, and it's not relevant to a review of this movie. Recommended.
A love letter to a pre-Che.......2007-06-16
I've read both books that this DVD is based on, and the way they are put together makes an interesting film. If you haven't yet discovered the talents of Garcia Gael Bernal, you certainly will want to see more of his films after this. Beautifully photographed, will make you want to take a tour of Latin America yourself. Perfect casting all around. Truly gives you a better understanding of Ernesto "Che" Guevaro's motivation for who he was to become. The Widescreen edition is a must to appreciate the magnificent magical feeling that makes you want to get on the back of the motocycle with them.
Great Movie.......2007-05-30
This movie is one of the best foreign flix i have ever seen. the way that they portrey Che is so interesting. finding out about one of the most memerable rebels in all of history. seeing his beginings in communism and the point of view of the native people in chile peru and all of south america. This movie is a great historical film as long as a great Drama
Why do so many people get this film wrong..........2007-04-29
First of all, this is NOT a documentary, this is a film portraying the life of a 23 year old Ernesto Guevara de La Serna looking for adventures and inspiration. There was no need to give more details or be more specific about this character. He was a young man at this point, far from becoming the infamous warrior the world came to know as Che Guevara. I love this film, in fact it one of my favorites. I am appalled to learn about his actions in Cuba and his decision to stop practising medicine. I cannot deny that I both, admire and despise what he became, but the point of this movie is to depict his journey through South America, not how he became Che Guevara and end up with Fidel Castro in Cuba.
Let the world change you and this film also........2007-04-11
One of Gael's insperational & professional roles as "che" hands down. A really really great movie of how the world chages a person and makes them wanna change the world he lives in.

From the director of Dude, Where's My Car? comes another crazed tale of two friends on a perilous quest--in this case, to eat burgers at the fast food restaurant White Castle. The pair--repressed Harold (John Cho, Better Luck Tomorrow) and freewheeling Kumar (Kal Penn, Love Don't Cost a Thing)--get extremely high and set off on the road, only to be sidetracked by skateboarding hooligans, racist cops, an inbred tow truck driver, and Neil Patrick Harris--yes, Doogie Howser, M.D. The humor is all over the map, and it would be nice if there were one female character who wasn't a caricature, but Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle has a loose, gregarious charm, and the movie's canniness about the cliches of the buddy-movie genre give it a sneaky subversive feel--just the fact that neither of the heroes is white puts a different spin on just about every circumstance. Surprisingly clever, cheerfully stupid. --Bret Fetzer

Asians on Drugs.......2007-06-15
Being an Asian immigrant who likes to occasionally eat at White Castle, I was interested in seeing this film. It turned out to be worse than I could have imagined. The movie is about drugs, drugs and more drugs and there is nothing funny about it. White Castle hamburgers make an appearance at the end but mostly it is drugs the Asian characters want. They smoke marijuana all the time which is not like any Asians I know. The white people in the movie are always calling Asians names but that is not like any white people I know either. In the real world, it is only the Black and Spanish that have called me names because I am Asian. I would only recommend this movie if you think it is funny to watch Asian people smoke marijuana.
Reefers and Slyders.......2007-06-03
You've got to cut independent films like this some slack given they are produced on a low budget with relatively inexperienced actors and crew people. You've got to cut this film even more slack because it is a comedy: Even if some things seem pretty stupid, they are meant to be stupid. The problem with "Harold & Kumar," however, is that it is much more stupid than ever intended. You can cut it all the slack you want and it's still pretty bad.
The story is about an East-Indian (or is he Pakistani?) named Kumar and his Korean friend (or is he Chinese?) named Harold. Smoking dope supposedly gives you the munchies, so, one evening, after smoking lots of marijuana, they get a craving for White Castle's mini-hamburgers ("Slyders"). But finding a White Castle proves harder than expected. The movie is about their bizarre search for more marijuana and for a White Castle.
"Harold & Kumar" is kind of a cross between the worst of Cheech & Chong and that academy award winner for politically correct zombies, "Crash."
Every White person in the film, except for Harold and Kumar's Jewish neighbors, is a racist who shouts slurs at our Asian leads. Harold and Kumar have anti-Asian slurs hurled at them all day long from White people. (My wife is Chinese and she has never been subjected to a racial slur by a White person in the more than fifeen years that she's lived in the New York City area.) The non-Jewish Whites in the film are either criminals who terrorize minorities or thuggish police officers who arrest Black people just because they are Black. (Yeah, who ever heard of a Black criminal?) That the only nice White people in the flick are Jewish is kind of interesting given that the screenplay was written by two guys with the surnames "Schlossberg" and "Hurwitz."
This is one of those movies, like the "Fritz the Cat" cartoons, that you have to watch stoned to enjoy. I'd say that you'd have to be really, really stoned!
One thing that is effective about the film, however, is that the ending will give you a craving for White Castle. I've never been a big fan of those Slyders but, the day after watching this film, I went to the White Castle on Queens Boulevard in Elmhurst to get my fix of them.
Great movie even for a gay guy!!!.......2007-05-29
I am a gay guy and I loved this movie for all of the "campyness" it had to offer. Two stoners set out on their "quest for munchies" to a White Castle. What I found very different about this movie is that neither of the lead characters are white. It was this little twist that made this movie an "over the top" funny. My favorite part of the movie is when their car broke down and this redneck stops to help them. You will have to watch the movie to totally understand it. I recommend this movie to anyone that wants a good laugh for the night!!!!
Bryce MUNCHIES.......2007-05-02
This movie Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle is a comedy movie. It contains scens that are full of laughtur and adventure. The movie is about these two people that go through hell and high water to get there hands on some White Castle burgurs, but have to do certain tasks to do so.
This is by far the #1 movie in the Uniter States, but that is just the movie watching king's apinion
hilarious.......2007-03-16
this movie is so funny i watch it and before i did i thought it would be some dumbass movie about two idiots doing nothing but its not like that these two guys smoke weed in their apartment then they figure that they would wantto eat something other then what they had so they see a commercial for white castle burgers so they go off looking for this place that is only 45 mins. away. but it ends up taking many hours it is so freakin funny you have lived til you seen this halarious movie

Before his death, comedian Chris Farley made a pair of surprisingly successful comedies that teamed him with Saturday Night Live colleague David Spade. Their relationship in each film was pretty much the same, but then so was Abbott and Costello's or Laurel and Hardy's (not that Farley and Spade are in their league). In Tommy Boy, Farley plays the ne'er-do-well son of a successful auto parts manufacturer (Brian Dennehy). When Dad drops dead just after marrying a young new wife, it's up to Tommy (aided by sarcastic bean-counter Spade) to rescue the company by taking over for his father. Black Sheep features a slightly different plot: This time, Spade is hired by Farley's brother (Tim Matheson), a candidate for governor, to keep Farley (an accident-prone buffoon) out of sight until after the election. Farley has a likable quality that is exploited by continuous slapstick centered on his clumsiness, both physically and socially. --Marshall Fine

awesome!.......2007-06-25
this is the quintescential chris farely movie. all his best stuff rolled into one. he and david spade make a great comedy team. this is a movie you will never grow tired of. you could watch it every groundhog day, arbor day, flag day, boxing day and other holiday's too, and never grow tired of it.
don't bother renting it, you'll just end up buying anyway.
there are so many funny moments; some that require rewinding because you've laughed so hard you missed the following dialog. i laughed myself out of my seat during the deer scene. you will "feel like a horse's patute" if you don't see this movie. this is one of the funniest movie of all time. E! ranked it in the top 30 of funnist movies ever, but i think it deserves a higher rank.
get this along with "the best of chris farley's on SNL ("down by the river," "the nino," chirs farley show, chippendale, etc)" to get the most hilarious moments and scenes of chris. we love you chris! you will continue to make us laugh forever. i will definately be that guy that forces his kids to watch "grown-up humor" movies.
this movie is definately kablamo!
Who Killed the Keg?.......2007-06-13
Tommy Boy Directed by Peter Segal
PG-13 97min.
Who Killed The Keg?
Have you ever seen a movie where you laughed so hard you almost choked on something you eating? Well here's one of those movies. Tommy Boy is a hilarious slapstick comedy featuring some of the besting actors and is directed by Peter Segal. This movie takes place in the U.S. in the 1990's. Tommy Callahan (Chris Farley, Saturday Night Live) just got his diploma after 7 years of college. After returning home Tommy realizes that his dad (Brian Dennehy) is marrying a real hot mama (Bo Derek.) But unexpectedly his father has a heart attack at his wedding. Before you could say "Who killed the keg?" the family auto parts business starts to go downhill and it's about to be sold but Tommy plus his dad's right hand man, Richard (David Spade, Saturday Night Live) volunteer to go on the road and sell the company's merchandise in order to pay off the bank. The only problem.... neither of them know a single thing about sales. If I had a penny for each thing either of them knew about sales I'd be dirt poor. What will happen to the business?
This movie is one of those movies that, makes you laugh until you pee your pants and then you laugh some more. You'll want to watch this movie over and over again. This can be compared to Black Sheep some of Farley and Spade's previous work. This movie is hilarious, has a good plot and is easy to understand. Farley's personality in this movie is hilarious. I have seriously seen this movie at least 100 times and it's still funny. No matter which way this movie turns it's still always funny.
I recommend this movie to 10 and up but because of the PG-13 so only 13 and up might be able to see it. Also comedy lovers should see it because if they don't they don't know what they are missing.
Chris Farley's Best.......2007-04-07
If you don't see this movie and ;laugh their is something wrong with you.
FARLEY AND SPADE'S BEST MOVIE .......2007-03-25
This is a very funny movie! Farley and Spade looked like a strong comic team in this film. Basicly a buddy/road film with a heart. Farley was never funnier in any movie than this one! A must have in your comedy collection.
Awesome movie.......2007-03-08
This is a classic Chris Farley ...
David Spade has done a remarkably good job ...
After watching this one, I had no hesitation to go out and buy some more Chris Farley movies.
The DVD reached my address on time and m a happy Amazon customer.
I say go get it!

After its scandalous screening at the 2004 Cannes film festival, Vincent Gallo's The Brown Bunny was cut from 118 to 92 minutes, and that made all the difference. The film that critic and long-time Cannes attendee Roger Ebert originally called "the worst film in the history of the festival" was transformed, by Gallo's judicious editing, into a perfectly acceptable if not universally respected art-house curio, widely criticized yet ripe for cult status, able to stand beside Gallo's Buffalo 66 as the work of a genuine artist with a singular vision. Yes, that vision is self-indulgent, narcissistic, and likely to turn off a majority of viewers with its glacial pace and endless shots of Gallo driving, driving, and driving some more. But in portraying a melancholy motorcycle racer who drives cross-country while mourning a private loss that remains secret until the final scenes, Gallo gives us a character, and a film, that feels spiritually akin to such early '70s classics as Five Easy Pieces and Two-Lane Blacktop. It's a flawed yet ultimately moving example of maverick, unconventional cinema, and while Chloe Sevigny's explicit oral sex scene with Gallo is completely unnecessary, it's just one more element that places The Brown Bunny firmly, and refreshingly, out of the mainstream. --Jeff Shannon
Customer Reviews:
Keep the FF button close.......2007-06-10
The premise of the movie is decent, and the ending is almost good, however it's a torturous ride to the end. 90% of this movie is the main character driving... Just driving, no dialog, no music, just road noise. I recommend hitting the FF button whenever the car is moving.
Don't be fooled: It's not even VG's virile member........2007-03-20
Notice the edit when the camera moves down to his nether regions. Such chutzpah: Using an amply endowed body double to stand him for him. I'll bet his conquests are disappointed.
Otherwise, pretty amatuerish, low-budget affair, e.g., a long single take of him driving with the camera mount crooked and his face forced out of frame. Good 10-minute shot of the back of his head and the backseat, though. Maybe an amateur can be a director, but not a DP.
Still, VG's bizarre personality offers some dark ironical humor (I think it's ironical). Anyway, better than Ron Howard or Spielberg.
Edgy and racey and provacative.......2007-03-17
This film was interesting... It is not your typical Hollywood flick. It is worth watching at least once to form your own opinion. Mr. Gallo definitely has an edgy style and artistic ability. And for that infamous scene with Ms. Sevigny... every man's fantasy. I added this to my collection.
I will admit it.......2007-03-12
I got this movie orginally to see Vincent Gallo's schlong and that I did. That is why I did give this movie 2 stars. The story of this movie is very boring and it is a very dull movie all in all. The dialong is awful and it's actors are boring as well. I am sorry, but I will have to say don't even bother with this movie unless you want to see Vincent Gallo or Chloë Sevigny nude. Other than that, don't bother.
Maybe even 6 out of 5 stars. So there........2007-03-09
Yes, well, of course most people don't like this movie. If people don't realize by now that Brown Bunny is aimed at a limited audience--especially after all the hullabaloos (hullabali?) raised by this film--I don't know what to say about the movie-viewing public. The following are the facts of the matter; let them serve as either a warning or invitation to prospective viewers.
(1) The film is (materially) uneventful. By this, I mean that nothing much "happens" as far as dialogue, events, or otherwise obvious Hollywood razzmatazz. There are no car chases, explosions, fist fights, cute romantic foibles, jokes, sight gags, or secret government plots. What there is, is a lot of driving--of a van, across the U.S. There are minor, nearly wordless encounters scattered around, but the film is predominantly a mood piece, meditative, allusive, cathartic, evocative... If this doesn't sound appealing to you, then by all means save yourself the hassle and avoid this film like the plague. But to all those who think this is nth degree in a director's self-indulgence, this movie doesn't even come close. See a movie like Goodbye Dragon Inn or, for that matter, any of the major Taiwanese directors, and then you'll see a slow movie! (But not necessarily a bad one, however.)
(2) The movie is brutally depressing. If you make it all the way through (and many will not), you'll unlikely be whistling a merry ditty or feeling particularly chipper. It is certainly not a feel-good movie; in fact, it might qualify as a feel-very-bad movie, which I prefer anyway. A lot of people complain about depressing movies--they would rather watch something light and diverting. But here's the discrepancy: this isn't the cinematic version of Muzak, here to pacify the populace; it is art--which may (fear or fears!) be distressing at times. Life's like that. Get used to it. We have more than enough "entertainment" around to neutralize us into thoughtless zombies... pop music, magazines, TV, sports, and (ahem) the internet, just to name a few.
(3) Okay, here's another doozy, and this is the reason the movie has gotten any public notoriety whatsoever. There is an actual sex scene containing actual oral sex (apparently anyway) between Vincent Gallo and Chloe Sevigny. But, if you are visiting this page, you probably already know this. After all, why would 95% of people be visiting this page? If you are thinking of watching this film for the erotic factor, skip it. There are countless adult films better formulated to satisfy your needs. This scene is hardly what I would consider titillating. It's more sad, in a way. And, no, Chloe Sevigny hasn't destroyed her career by doing this, nor has she made an especially bad choice. (Notice that not many people accuse Vincent Gallo of destroying his career by doing the same thing. But of course many people strongly dislike Vincent Gallo anyway. I myself don't like his right-wing politics, but I still love this film.)
Okay, those are the three main obstacles preventing most casual viewers from "enjoying" (is that even the right word?) this film. If one or more of them seems unappealing to you, then save yourself the ninety minutes. It's as simple as that.
It was very appealing to me, however, and I imagine that some other people out in the world will find this film as important, moving, and meaningful as I have.

For Depression-era audiences, much of the fun of screwball comedies such as It Happened One Night and My Man Godfrey, was the pleasure of watching rich people act like loons or get their redemptive comeuppance from some Average Joe. The same vicarious kicks are at play in the sophomore season of The Simple Life, in which Paris Hilton and Nicole Ritchie drive from Florida to California. With no cash or credit cards, they must depend on the kindness of strangers (invariably nonplussed men whom the ladies approach for handouts at toll booths, gas stations, or fast food joints). The series takes great delight in putting the pampered and privileged duo in embarrassing situations, such as getting them jobs as maids at a nudist resort. But through it all, our uneasy riders are game for almost anything and never lose their 'tude. And just when their antics try the viewers' patience or sympathy (at the nudist resort, they shamelessly goldbrick on the job, posing as guests and calling for a maid to clean up the room for which they are responsible), they somehow redeem themselves. On a cattle drive, they pull a City Slickers and save one steer from slaughter. But comeuppance? These girls don't know the meaning of the word (insert your own joke here). They are forced to take it from several of their less-than-impressed hosts, but they also dish it out, as witness one episode in which one unwitting antagonist is served a dog food sausage courtesy of Nicole. How much of this is staged is probably beside the point. The Simple Life is unreality television at its most addictive. Fasten your seatbelts. --Donald Liebenson

The Simple Life Review .......2007-05-12
I enjoyed this product! The dvd was enjoyable, and funny, and in good condition!
Do I have a guilty pleasure?.......2006-10-06
This is the first season I've seen in full of the Simple Life. I've never seen the first or the fourth, and I've seen a few episodes in series 3 Interns, but otherwise that's it. I've never seen the rest of them cheap enough yet. This one was dead cheap, so I snatched it up straight away, even if I did get slated for buying it.
The thing about the Simple Life is you will rarely admit to buying it. Or admit to watching it. It's something that's meant to be kept a secret, cos it's simply not "cool".
I'm "coming out of the closet" and admitting I love watching the Simple Life. Sure, it's all scripted beyond belief, it's edited down from lots of footage to barely 20 minutes. And it stars one of the biggest self promoters you can possibly get. (Yes Paris I'm talking about you!)
But I love Nicole Richie. And despite her recent weight issues, I'll buy her biographies, and the Simple Life. She is the ultimate rock chick. And she's the true star of the show unlike Paris.
But one question is why is this show censored? The swear words are beeped out and there are some scenes where both girls are wearing low cut trousers, and it's been blurred out!!!
This will remain my one guilty pleasure, probably until I get the rest of the DVDs, but I just don't understand why it's been censored, it so stupid! That is my only quibble about this show.
Nicole + Paris = Hilarious!.......2006-05-23
Coming into the second season strong Paris and Nicole know how to take the same senerio and make it fresh. In fact, all three seasons so far have seen these two rich socialites plucked from the norm (to them) and placed in a place that seems foreign with people who just don't understand them. The fact remains though, that these two girls survive by being themselves, incapable of work, unwilling to work, and unable to work...and they drive everyone insane and then redeem themselves with their charm and sweet hearts (they really are sweet girls)...So this season sees them cross country traveling from FL to Cali and the who way there they stop and live with families getting jobs you'd never expect them to do. The funniest episodes involve the Local Police Dept. where they use their new power to harrass the locals & the Nudest Colony where they are hired as maids and end up posing as guests, charging food to the room and calling for another maid to clean the room. Every episode is hilarious. Who ever said Paris was only worth her sex tape hasn't seen 'The Simple Life'...oh and I must add that this show is a hoot MOSTLY because of Nicole Richie who is HISTERICAL!
Paris and Nicole are Devilish, Delightful and needed in this world.......2006-04-08
I am a 41 female artist who "by accident" was channeling flipping and caught the first two episodes of SIMPLE LIFE 2 on E! channel as part of a repeat promo. I started laughing so hard I was crying while watching the antics of Paris and Nicole- I am sure my neighbors thought I was insane. I was lucky to catch all of SIMPLE LIFE 1 on the weekend marathon via E! Channel and then rushed out to get the rest of SIMPLE LIFE 2 on dvd because I couldn't wait to see it. I also rented SIMPLE LIFE 3. Simple Life 2 is the best, then simple life 3 then Simple Life 1. All are good. The MUST NOT miss episodes for Simple Life 2 are working as maids at EL CALIENTE (the nudist colony )and the Sheriff Office stint in texas while the girls are staying at Click ranch. If you are in need of a spiritual lift via laughter I suggest you RUN and get SL2. Nicole is a modern day Mae West and people were making fun of me for loving this series. OF COURSE they hadn't seen any of it and saying they didn't want to watch those "dumb" girls. It is obvious anyone who judges this without watching it is an idiot. I hope Nicole and Paris can mend their rift- I hear they are filming SL4 but without interacting ( huh??????!!!!). They are a modern day Laurel & Hardy mixed with Puck from a Mid Summer Night's Dream mixed with Mae West etc. Loves it!
Seson 2.......2006-03-18
I love these Girls but, them trying to make it across the states. I am not sure but, they proved my verdict wrong. With their jobs and nicole and paris going to wash their clothes. Finding room mates wanted paper Nicole calling them and paris pretending to be an old man some funny stuff. You will love this season they are brillant. sa sa sa sa. Night B**ch. Nicole and paris are amazing you go girls.

Road Trip (UNRATED).......2007-05-07
Another one of my top favorites, Halarious through the entire movie, i cant stop laughing everytime i see it.
When American Pie Was At Its Height, There Was Road Trip.......2007-03-12
If you like the typical teenage comedy, then you should give this movie a try. It does fall for some of the routine story lines that are in every movie like this, but it is still a funny movie. The best part is probably when they visit Tom Green's grandparents. I never can get over the dog that talks, lol. Overall, like I said, if you like teen comedies then you will like this movie. Avoid it if you don't
Very funny.......2007-02-28
I found that this movie was very funny. Everyone knows that it isn't the goal that is really important, it is the journey there and that is what is very funny about this movie. It is the changes in the "nerd" of taking chances to stealing a van to finally standing up to his father that I found most vindicating. It is also the changes in the guys girlfriend that he is getting the tape from and how thier relationship has changed too. What is very funny is the physics student making a calculation in speed of the car so they can get across a washed out bringe. I do recommend the unrated version of this movie to anyone that a good laugh in a movie.
Ah, to be in college again.......2007-02-19
If you're into party movies, go ahead & add this one to your DVD collection. It has everything you want in a party film: an outlandish plot, funny scenes, Sean William Scott, the classic "nerd" character, some gorgeous babes, male fantasies and lots of gratuitous nudity. Of the latter, seeing Amy Smart take her shirt off is worth the price of the DVD all by itself!
Party movies are not the types of movies where it is productive to go into plot analysis. Let's just say that we have to track a group of college guys who have to make a trip cross-country to the university of Texas. Along the way, just about every zany thing that can go wrong does go wrong, and the result is a movie that is way fun.
Nice trip .......2007-01-31
I walked out of "What lies beneath" after 15 minutes, went back into the cinema bought a ticket for "Road Trip" Laughed solidly for the duration and then went back in to the first screen sat down beside my finance and endured the last bit of "What lies beneath". It caused a bit of friction that night but she married me anyway and I've no regrets.
The other reviews that suggest this is cashing in on the success of American Pie are missing the point. There has been a renaissance on the genre of dumb gross-out teen flick. The American Pie franchise has met with greater commercial acclaim and "chicks" are more likely to favor them but Road Trip stands head and shoulders above even the first "American Pie" flick.

Vacation paved the way for the John Hughes movie dynasty of the 1980s. Written by Hughes (who would go on to write, direct, and/or produce The Breakfast Club, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Uncle Buck, Home Alone, and so on) and directed by Harold Ramis (Caddyshack, Groundhog Day, Stuart Saves His Family), the first Vacation movie introduces us to the all-American Griswold family: father Clark (Chevy Chase), mother Ellen (Beverly D'Angelo), son Rusty (future Hughes staple Anthony Michael Hall), and daughter Audrey (Dana Barron). They all pile into the car for a cross-country road trip to Walley World, stopping along the way to view the world's biggest ball of twine. John Candy, Imogene Coca, and Randy Quaid (as yokel Cousin Eddie) pop up along the way. The movie was a big hit, and was followed by several sequels--National Lampoon's European Vacation, National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, and National Lampoon's Vegas Vacation--but this one is still probably the freshest and funniest of the bunch. --Jim Emerson
Product Description
The Griswolds have planned all year for a great summer vacation. From their suburban Chicago home, across America, to the wonders of Wally World fun park in California, every step of the way has been carefully plotted. Except a few hundred hysterical exceptions.
National Lampoon's Vacation is a sublimely goofy comedy, thanks largely to Chevy Chase in his signature role of Clark Griswold. The inept but sincere Clark takes misfortune in stride. So what if they lose all their money when their new car gets wrecked. And it's not too bad when Cousin Eddie (Randy Quaid) deposits sour Aunt Edna (Imogene Coca) in their back seat for a lift to Phoenix. But what really keeps Clark's eyes on the road is a flirtation with a mysterious blonde (Christie Brinkley) in a red Ferrari.
For those along on the ride, National Lampoon's Vacation, called "fast, funny satire" by The New York Times' Janet Maslin, is a jolly jaunt.
Running Time: 98 min.

Chevy Chase Steals the Show.......2007-07-05
This is your average American family a mom, a dad, and two kids. You really see a lot of great acting in this movie you have three very good performances you have Chevy Chase who is the parent, Anthony Michael Hall who is the teenage son, and you have Christie Brinkley the girl who drives the red Ferrari. You can't go wrong with this movie it will make you laugh and pee your pants simultaneously. It isn't a hard to find movie you can buy it on Amazon, movie stores, or you can be cheap like me I bought it on VHS at a yard sale for one dollar, brand new (thrift stores are good too).
Early John Hughes hasn't aged well........2007-02-27
"Vacation" was a film that needed to be made for all of us Americans. That having been said, it's essentially a belabored one-joke movie. And suffering through Chevy Chase only gets more annoying with each subsequent episode. What may have seemed hilarious in 1983 (his yelling out the F word repeatedly), doesn't quite have the same impact 25 years later. Hughes would use the same joke in a similar, much funnier movie "Planes, Trains, and Automobiles."
The real star of the film is Anthony Michael Hall. He outshines Chevy Chase in each of their shared scenes and his delivery is perfect. It is interesting to watch him before his career exploded in the next 2-3 years.
He owes us! You're GD right he owes us!!!.......2006-08-23
Review Note: This review is based on the VHS tape.
Classic comedy, Chevy Chase style. This was and is to this day, a comedy classic. One of the funniest! My brother and I, and numerous friends still quote off lines from this movie, on a regular basis.
Highly recommended!

Nothing Special about Special Edition.......2006-08-22
(This is a review of the DVD itself, not the movie.)
Not sure why they decided to release a "special edition." Really the only thing extra is the commentary, which is too busy because they have at least 4 or 5 people making comments. Not nearly as good as Chevy Chase by himself on the "European Vacation" DVD. Also, the video is a bit jumpy and seems low-quality, as if it were transferred from VHS. Sound is excellent however.
Worth it just for the movie itself, but really there's not too much extra.
One of the best!!.......2006-08-11
Hands down, one of the best comedies of the 80's. Chevy was at his best and director Harold Ramis was on a role. (Caddyshack and Stripes.)
Many cuts and versions are out there but the truest I've seen, so far, is the anniversary edition. It's in widescreen (I've heard matted/cropped,not sure, but??), nice 5.1 mix, some decent special features but where are all those deleted scenes and the alternate ending?
Plus, a big [..] I have. "I'm so exited" was the song played when Christie Brinkley pulls along side Chevy(Clark Griswald) in the original. Why, still is "Little boy sweet" a song also by the Pointer Sisters used instead?? Both songs were used in the movie. The latter in the truckstop sceen where Chevy eats the pissed on sandwhich.
Is the copyright on that song that expensive to get it??
Dunno. Great movie. Lotta fun.
Best DVD of it yet. Agreed??

--Bret Fetzer

beautiful movie.......2007-06-22
