Twenty years before the Farrelly Brothers turned raunch into acceptable film comedy, the team of David Zucker, Jim Abrahams, and Jerry Zucker exploited it first. The college threesome made it big with Airplane! in 1980, but this 1977 cinematic version of their live theater show is ground zero for their talents. Like The Groove Tube, Kentucky Fried Movie is a mishmash of sketches, fake commercials, and parodies with no central theme--except their crudeness and laugh-out-loud humor. Highlights include a commercial for "Scot Free," a board game based on the Kennedy assassination conspiracy, "The Wonderful World of Sex," in which a couple goes through foreplay with a self- help narrator instructing them step by step, and a 20-minute spoof of Bruce Lee films entitled "A Fistful of Yen." Brazen to a fault, the movie will reach for any punch line, no matter how crude (and those who flocked to the film's initial release looking for R-rated sex will remember the final sketch and the infamous trailer for "Catholic High School Girls in Trouble.") Directed by then-unknown John Landis on a shoestring budget, the film has aged. But crassness, when it's this funny, is forever. --Doug Thomas

5 out of 5 stars Raunchy and funny!!!!.......2007-06-28

The _Kentucky Fried Movie_ was created by the same crew who would later make the movie _Airplane_, and if you like _Airplane_'s screwball humor, you'll like _Kentuck Fried Movie_.

The one caveat is that _Kentucky Fried Movie_ is much raunchier than _Airplane_. The cover art is a bit innocuous, so be warned if there's kids in the room.

As long as you're okay with that, be prepared for a wild ride! I've never seen any other movie that does so deftly combines slapstick physical comedy (like the usher in the cinema skit) with fairly sophisticated dry humor (the parody of talk shows and Jacque Cousteau), social parody ("AM Today" and the intermittent news flashes), and fairly explicit sexual humor.

In addition to regular skits, there are also a number of spoof movie previews, like "Catholic High School Girls in Trouble" and "That's Armageddon!", that make the movie worth seeing all by itself.

I've yet to recommend this to someone and have a bad reaction, but I'm also pretty careful to only recommend it to people who won't be easily offended. But as long as you're not a prude, _Kentucky Fried Movie_ should have SOMETHING that you'll like!

1 out of 5 stars Painfully boring.......2007-06-04

This movie is so un-funny I can't even force myself to watch it. I wonder if there was any humor AT ALL in this disaster of a movie...

5 out of 5 stars Great!.......2007-04-10

I've been looking for this film for quit a long time, but I am very satisfied that i was able to buy it on Amazon. The price was as low as at any major retailer and the movie plays great! Thank you very much.

4 out of 5 stars Kentucky Fried Idiots.......2007-03-19

This movie is so stupid it is funny. I saw it when it first came out and I still haven't forgotten it nor will I ever. This is what the writers of the Groove Tube, Saturday Night Live, and Second City Television are all about. Watch this film and see a true comedy classic. Individual skits like "Catholic High School Girls in Trouble" could have been made into a full length movie all to itself. It was an era where one didn't have to be politically correct. This is what comedy is all about. See Kentucky Fried Movie and you will see what comedy is suppose to be or what it once was. Oh, by the way, Stephen Bishop also has a cameo role in this film and he isn't singing "On and On".

5 out of 5 stars Unforgettable.......2007-03-12

So here's the scene: a fiftysomething couple invites an old friend over for a weekend dinner and, in a very mellow mood, asks for suggestions of what to watch afterward. The guest says to the host (apropos the great dinner), "You have my gratitude."

Immediately references are knowingly exchanged from "A Fistful of Yen," one of the movies-within-a-movie of "Kentucky Fried Movie." We find the film somehow (a really bad VHS dub) and watch it, the laughter not stopping for anything.

This movie was brilliantly conceived, reasonably well-executed and ruthlessly original. We found ourselves saying over and over again, "You could not do THAT bit today..."

Are parts of it stupid and tasteless? Yes, and that's all part of this film's innate charm.

It made for a wonderful evening, and we had to get the better-quality DVD version ASAP. It's great being fiftysomething!

Too bad there are no ZERO stars.. This "thing" would get it.
OK, Parker WAS working for Elvis and so on.
But apart from that, which is extremely minor, WHAT is this thing doing under "Elvis Presley" when you search for new Elvis Presley DVD's?
Amazon sure had a strange way to put things together.
Go ahead try it: Type "Elvis Presley" in DVD search and you'll get a certain number of DVD's... including this.
Come on Amazon... wake up!
