Bachelor Party may not be the first trashy sex comedy, but it is perhaps the definitive trashy sex comedy. The movie makes its first breast joke before the opening credits have even finished. A cheerful school bus driver (Tom Hanks) has somehow gotten engaged to a lovely young heiress, much to the chagrin of her family and vengeful ex-boyfriend. The bus driver's roustabout friends decide to throw him a bachelor party--and you can pretty much guess the rest: scantily clad hookers, rampant drug use, bad 1980s new-wave music, really bad 1980s fashions, full frontal nudity (curiously, due to a scene in a Chippendales strip club, there's almost as much male flesh on display as female), bestiality, racial stereotypes, blackmail, attempted suicide, all played for unrepentant cheap laughs. Throughout, Tom Hanks floats along with a carefree (if slightly sheepish) grin, projecting such an air of impish innocence that it's hard to be offended by any of it. And it all ends in a wedding, just like a Shakespearean comedy. Also featuring the blinding white teeth and big hair of Tawny Kitaen (playing the good girl Hanks marries), buxom scream queen Monique Gabrielle, and Adrian Zmed, whose career has not fared as well as Hanks's. --Bret Fetzer

With Sideways, Paul Giamatti (American Splendor, Storytelling) has become an unlikely but engaging romantic lead. Struggling novelist and wine connoisseur Miles (Giamatti) takes his best friend Jack (Thomas Haden Church, Wings) on a wine-tasting tour of California vineyards for a kind of extended bachelor party. Almost immediately, Jack's insatiable need to sow some wild oats before his marriage leads them into double-dates with a rambunctious wine pourer (Sandra Oh, Under the Tuscan Sun) and a recently divorced waitress (Virginia Madsen, The Hot Spot)--and Miles discovers a little hope that he hasn't let himself feel in a long time. Sideways is a modest but finely tuned film; with gentle compassion, it explores the failures, struggles, and lowered expectations of mid-life. Giamatti makes regret and self-loathing sympathetic, almost sweet. From the director of Election and About Schmidt. --Bret Fetzer

5 out of 5 stars Please go away..........2007-07-03

First of all, this was the best movie of 2005. Secondly, if you rated this film at one star you have no taste in good movies. Thirdly, as one of the better scripts out there, the writing was amazing. I think way too many people did not understand the richness that the actors created...I felt like an observer into real life...this film was beautifully done and I think that a film like this comes out once every few years that is highly underrated and happens to be a masterpiece...Go review Triple xXx again if you cannot properly fathom quality greatness when it's right in front of your face. Oh how the masses line up like sheep to the slaughter... "Please sir can I have some more?"

1 out of 5 stars Zero stars - what an unfunny boring over-rated whiney dog.......2007-06-24

I was suckered into watching part of this crappy loser downer dog - what a waste of time. I like wine and being 73 and lived in Nor Cal for 45 years - I've tasted, drunk, tossed out - way more than my share of CA and global wines. When I find a keeper I buy 10-12 cases. This is not a keeper.

4 out of 5 stars Too Depressing for me!.......2007-06-15

I like to give multiple stars to movies I would watch again. The other day I thought about watching "Sideways" for a second time, and I thought to myself, "..no, its too depressing!" I'll get to why in a minute.

The acting was excellent. I don't see the genius that others find in Paul Giamatti, except as perhaps, a modern Woody Allen, the world's greatest "sad sack." But Giamatti doesn't have Woody's comedy genius - so I'll have to revise what I just said - Paul Giamatti is the world's greatest sad sack. Tom Church played a man with absolutley no redeeming characteristics, except perhaps that he has befriended the worlds greatest sad sack.

I thought Virginia Madsen was very good until the scene where she describes her romantic interest in wine. Then, like other reviewers, I thought she was amazing. In this movie, I think wine is a metahpor for what can be cheap, pompous and superficial. Wine experts are usually just trying to impress other people with cheap, self-serving superficiality. But then "Maya" gives us an honest and genuine assessment, reminding us that there is decency and honesty, even in the world of wine.

"Sideways" very effectively portrayed lives that seemed to be going nowhere but sideways. And this is the reason, despite all the funny things that happen in this movie, why I think its sad. The character development in "Sideways" is excellent. As I got to know the characters, I began to emphathize with them, so I began to feel bad about the miserable lives they are leading. Worst of all, was life so miserable for Madsen's magnificent "Maya" character that she would find comfort in Giamatti's miserable "Miles" character? Ouch. And the young woman who actually believed everything she heard from the Tom Church character. Oh well. (pun intended). Basically, these to guys are complete losers. But because I felt I knew them, I cared for them, and thus, in between the humor, it was painful to watch.

One day, I may watch it again for the humor, which had its momements, like when giamatti takes the monster hit from the dregs bucket, or Tom Church walking around with the bandage on his nose (which seemed to advertise, I am a loser, a complete loser), or the two people having sex while Giamatti re-steals Church's wallet. But I'll wait a while.

One star for Virginia Madsen's acting, one star for Giamatti's dance with the dregs bucket, one star for Church's nose bandage, and another star for Virginia Madsen's face.

    Description

This outrageously funny look at one man's final moments of bachelorhood stars TOM HANKS as Rick, reluctant recipient of a bachelor bash given by a group of friends who view partying as their full-time religion. Rick's worried fiancée, Debbie (TAWNY KITAEN), dresses up in disguise and crashes the party to spy on her future husband. To complicate the night further, Debbies father hires her ex-boyfriend to win back his daughter. It turns out to be an evening the soon-to-be bride and groom will never forget.

I dunno - this movie is pure escapism/mood elevation, whatever. But am I alone in preferring THIS Tom Hanks and the TH in "Dragnet" to politically correct effluvia like "Philly" or "Forrest Gump?"

1 out of 5 stars One Line Review.......2007-01-07

It's a wonder anyone in this tasteless comedy ever made another movie again...or won an Oscar...much less two.

    5 out of 5 stars Bachelor Party.......2006-11-10

A funny 80's movie, if you are needing a laugh this is a must see!!

5 out of 5 stars Now this is a bachelor party!.......2006-05-13

Bachelor Party starring Tom Hanks is so funny, so original, and so mind-numbingly silly, you too will be laughing like a hyenna. I love this film so much, I can't believe my mom let me watch this semi-dirty film when I was little, what was she thinking? Hanks is great as always, I love his physical comedy, what a genius he is. Bachelor Party is probably the only film about a Bachelor Party gone array. There are some naughty scenes but nothing too grotesque occurs. Love it, love it, love it. Such a guilty pleasure, don't miss this classic gem.

    3 out of 5 stars has it's moments.......2005-09-25

let's face it,this is much better when you're a kid getting away with watching this on late night cable when the parents are asleep.but when you get older as i have you see it for what it really is,a stupid 80's comedy that still has it's moments.but this movie has been so hyped up throughout the years which makes it disappointing watching it today.as with alot of 80's films of this genre alot of scenes are just down right embarassing and bad.but scenes like a donkey od'ing on coke is still funny,as well as the guy trying to slit his wrist with an electric razor.this is also good for seeing hanks when he was funny.but aside from tawny kitaen and some other eye candy the casting really sucks.maybe it's the casting of that guy from dance fever that ruined it for me as his appearance makes me cringe and he's one of the main characters.i've seen this enough times throughout my life to know that i can finally put this one to sleep.

The producers of the American Pie movies pushed their luck with a third slice of their lucrative raunchy comedy franchise, and American Wedding cooked up surprisingly well. It's the sourest serving of Pie, with half of the original cast missing, and there's something undeniably desperate about comedic highlights (involving dog poop, a lusty old lady, two strippers to offset the absence of Shannon Elizabeth, and the ill-advised use of a trimming razor) that arise more from obligation than inspiration, on the assumption that another penile mishap is guaranteed to please. And yet, that's just what this movie does for devoted Pie-munchers: It gives 'em what they want, especially when the notorious Stifler (Seann William Scott) nearly ruins the frantic nuptials of Jim (Jason Biggs) and his band-camping sweetheart Michelle (Alyson Hannigan). Eugene Levy and Eddie Kaye Thomas also return for some reliable comic relief, but the one who's laughing most is three-time Pie writer Adam Herz--laughing loudly and often, all the way to the bank. --Jeff Shannon

I enjoyed watching this movie. Lots of laughs and sophomoric fun that you've come to expect from watching all the movies in the American Pie series! Yes, this movie is a bit predictable, but nonetheless entertaining to watch.

It is nice to see Jim and Michelle get married in this movie and all the funny things that happen and go wrong along the way in planning for the wedding!

American Wedding is so far the funniest installment to the trilogy. This one finds Jim and Michelle getting married, opening with what I've found to be the naughtiest scene I've ever seen take place in a resturant.Stifler brings more laughs to the screen as Stifler, who thinks the first thing that comes to his mind when he thinks of weddings:Bachelor party! The biggest scene, basically,is the bechelor party scene, where a gay guy Jim and his pals met in a gay bar brings a couple of foreign strippers to Jim's house and they party for a while, until it's busted up by the early return of Jim and Michelle's parents.Laughs and gut-busting humor ensue as the pals get caught up in what might be the best film in the trilogy.

The quality of the video is poor. It looks like they video taped it in a movie theater. The movie has some funny scenes but it's not as good as I remember. I probably liked it so much because my girlfriend at the time hated it.

I love this movie. It is definately a cult classic type of film and you will appreciate it a lot more if you were a crazy teen between 1979 to 1984. The plot is simple enough; 2 guys try to get laid and end up in the craziest situations. I wouldn't say this movie is "better" than Dazed & Confused, it is just different and much more realistic in my opinion. I can totaly relate with this film and all of its characters!

This is probably my all-time favorite party movie. Hubbs and Joe are like a modern day Cheech & Chong. This movie had me laughing so hard, I was crying. I can totally relate to The Stoned Age, because I'm from a small town, and that is all me and my friends did was "drive around trying to get drunk, stoned, and laid". The blonde does get naked in this, but i didnt think that she was as hot as everyone else did. I highly recommend this movie!! It IS better than Dazed and Confused.

5 out of 5 stars A Beach Movie with Character and Depth - One of the Best.......2007-01-04

Unlike other beach movies that were typified by silly slapstick buffoonery, muscles and bikinis RIDE THE WILD SURF was the antithesis of such tomfoolery. Still keeping the muscles and bikinis RIDE THE WILD SURF took itself serious and played it straight. Basically three buddies from California (Fabian, Tab Hunter and Peter Brown) travel to Hawaii during school break looking for the challenge of the truly big waves each with own motivations and reasons. They are not alone in their quest and that sets up the dynamics of this good film as they vie not only to be the best but to win the hearts of the three females (Barbara Eden, Shelley Fabares and Susan Hart) who become enamored with them. In their way are other surfers (including James Mitchum and Roger Davis) looking for that perfect wave as well. This all intensifies the competition, develops the camaraderie and shows the true character and sportsmanship of the surfers. Technically the surfing and cinematography are outstanding. Jan & Dean play the title song that stands toe to toe with anything the Beach Boys did in the musical genre. This is a great film.

5 out of 5 stars Fabian, Tab & Peter Half Naked and Wet - What's Not To Like?.......2006-06-17

I remember watching this movie on TV when I was a kid. When I found it while surfing (no pun intended) through the DVD section of Amazon.com I bought it. What a sentimental blast from the past! Three fabulous looking hunks, Fabian, Tab Hunter and Peter Brown, use their winter break from college to spend one last time together in Hawaii to surf Waimea, before they all head in different directions, due to issues explained later on in the movie. By the first evening they all meet the perfect girl who will eventually help them deal with and solve their issues while sitting prettily on the beach in the most fabulous bikinis, with hair that barely moves in the wind, even when they stand up to wave at their beautifully physiqued, half naked, wet men. Yummy! Responsible Tab meets obligation-ridden Dolores Hart. A curiously blond over-cautious Peter meets curiously dark haired free spirited Barbara Eden. Untrusting, angry Fabian meets cautiously-trusting, sweet, Shelly Fabares, who in my book wins the award for best bikini - a while lace number that doesn't look like it would survive a puddle spashing, nevermind a dousing from the Wild Surf. While on the surface (again no pun intended) there is a fraternal feeling of comraderie and respect between the surfers, below the surface there is an undertow (I'm not going to apologize for this pun) of serious competition, as the winner of the contest, no only becomes known as the best surfer, but earns enough money to remain job free for a year to practice for the following year's competition - a dream come true for all of them. The panoramic surfing scenes, accompanied by hawaiian drum beats, are actual films of real surfers and are fantastic, and there are plenty of them. The close ups, while the talking scenes were filmed, are shot while the guys sit on the boards in water where I've seen bigger waves in my son's wading pool. I read in Tab Hunter's book recently, that the close ups of them "riding the waves" were filmed while they were kneeling in red rider wagons, after being spashed with buckets of water. However, it works well enough and is a lot of fun to see. In this movie, the surf is the star, and is not like those dopey Annette Funicello/Frankie Avalon movies where surfing is an after thought. The romances are sweet, there's comedy, drama, beautiful scenery and everybody's good looking - so hush little baby - don't you cry! I highly recommend this movie for a little nostalgic fun, if nothing else.

5 out of 5 stars "RIDE THE WILD SURF" SHOOTS THE CURL .......2006-03-19

A fun "sun and surf" flick of the mid 60's - this is certainly one of the better offerings of that genre. With a good cast that includes Tab Hunter, Shelley Fabares and Fabian, this entertaining flick moves well, contains some fairly innocuous love scenes, and actually has some nice surfing footage. Perhaps not surprisingly, it has a good message for teens and it's fun to watch too. The title song was actually a hit tune as well - cute movie.

1 out of 5 stars Stinky man, my name's Stinky........2006-02-03

If you were to ask me how many ways this film transformed into a disaster, I do not believe I would have enough fingers and toes to fully count the ways. From the dreamy beginning of this bland final chapter, until the ending cliché moments, there were probably a million different themes and elements that were utterly pathetic. In fact, I believe that this may be the first film that I have watched which had no redeeming values surrounding it. For any of you that have watched, like myself, the House Party trilogy, there is a level of expectation that follows these films. The first movie set the groundwork. Kid & Play need to get to a party and express themselves lyrically. The sequel finished the shabby generic walls of the house by repeating a similar diagram, while the third film was the demolition team to tear it down. Everything set up from the beginning of this series was destroyed, demolished, decayed, disemboweled by the time that the third installment arrived. We were missing key characters, Kid & Play seemed less excited by this film, and apparently continuity from the second film was not a top priority for director Eric Meza. This film is nothing but trash left in the house for too long. House Party 3 smells, it is attracting too many flies, and mold is the only form of life willing to adapt to it. Sad to see the potentials of a trilogy die because the final film didn't pay respect to its beginnings.

I would like to say that the acting was to blame for such a disappointing ending, but that means I would have to admit to there actually being acting in this film. That is something I am not willing to acknowledge at this time. As our story developed, you could easily see the relief behind Kid & Play's eyes knowing that this was going to be their final jaunt in the House Party line. In fact, you could see the excitement melt away from their characters as the film progressed. It was a headache to watch. Kid was not his typical expression-esque self, but instead, older and more tired? Play was just annoying in this film. Meza decided to completely disregard their passions in the first two films and make them managers instead of performers in this final one. This is what hurt the most, to witness two characters that we have seen grow over time from young idealistic teens ready to lyrically express themselves and go to parties, to old, tired, and boring actors caring less about the music, more about the money, and have the lamest parties imaginable. I thought I would never find myself saying this, but I missed "Pops" from the original. I didn't miss him in the second film, but now seeing this final chapter I missed some of the old faces. This may be the only time you hear me say this, but I missed Martin Lawrence. While I hated his character in the first two films, he was an element missing House Party 3. They tried to cover this by employing Bernie Mac as the annoying Uncle, but it just didn't seem to work. Screaming is not a substitute for acting. Chris Tucker makes a small cameo, and honestly, I could have used more of him. He was a shining bit of light in this dark, damp, disgusting film.

As you read this review, you may find yourself saying, "Andy, you hated the other two films, what made you think this would be any different?" I don't think I was hoping for Oscar nominations, but I did want a strong finale to this trilogy. I worked my way through it, I felt I deserved it. I wanted to see familiar faces, as much as I hated them, I wanted to see a familiar plot (however generic and repetitive it was to be), and I wanted to see a union between two familiar characters, instead of throwing in a random stranger at the end. I feel as if these are very reasonable requests considering nothing lead me to believe this film would end up to be the tragedy it was. After watching this film, no matter how bad it was going to be, I wanted to be able to flip through the channels on TV and see House Party on TBS and find myself reminiscing of the future that I knew. Now, that is never going to happen. If there is one trilogy that I want to put behind me, it is the House Party films. For nearly an hour and a half, we watch unmotivated characters force themselves through cliché urban hip-hop cinema motions. Where were the bad guys? Where were the familiarities of the original films? I hated the first films, but I detested House Party 3. Why bother building a fan base if you are just going to tear it down with the finale. It is somewhat like changing characters midway through a television series. It just doesn't work, and it didn't work in this film.

Overall, this movie was a disaster. While the other two films were never much to write home about, I did want a conclusion. I wanted to finish this series without worrying that there may be more coming around the bend. That was, before I noticed House Party 4 as another sequel. This series should have ended after the first one. House Party is a classic example of what happens when Hollywood notices that small budget films can continue to make money even after they loose their appeal. Take a look at Scary Movie 4 being released soon. Honestly, is it necessary? I do not suggest this film or this entire series. The first one, if you are forced to watch, than watch. Otherwise, don't waste your brain space!

    Grade: * out of *****

3 out of 5 stars The last real House Party.......2005-12-01

Unless you count the 4th movie, made a few years ago, 'House Party 3' is the true conclusion to this Kid N' Play comedy series. The good news is that the series goes out with a bang. Too many comparisons have been made between this third film and the first two in the series. However, 'House Party 3' is funny in its own right.

Kid N' Play are back and Kid is getting married. A lot of the movie focuses on all the temptation he faces on the way to his upcoming wedding. Play is one of those helping to tempt Kid. There really isn't a solid story to base the movie around. The bigger picture is that a bachelor party is being planned for Kid. Kid N' Play borrow some money to help fund this party, all the while attempting to sign a rap group, Sex As A Weapon (played by real life group, TLC). The whole movie is centered around this thin storyline.

Some of the supporting cast includes Chris Tucker and Bernie Mac, both of whom went on to bigger and better things. The majority of the characters, including Aunt Lucy, don't contribute to the plot and just happen to be in the vicinity.

Kid N' Play must have knew going in that this would be the last movie in the 'House Party' series. It shows when you are watching this. Nonetheless, there are plenty of laughs. The best supporting characters include Uncle Vester (played by Bernie Mac) and Stinky. While Bernie's character, like many of the others, has little to do with the outcome, he makes the movie much better than it would have been without him.

Kid's dad, played in the first movie by the late Robin Harris, has a cameo as a snapshot. Tisha Campbell reprises her role as Kid's former love interest from earlier in the series. Her role is fairly limited and is just meant to stir the pot a little, adding some tension leading up to the wedding.

The ending is a happy one, a simple party scene involving everyone from the movie together in Kid's house. There was a fourth 'House Party' movie made, but Kid N' Play had nothing to do with it. With the way this one ended, it would really be impossible to do another movie with the same characters. It would be too hard to convince people to come to a 'House Party' thrown by a married man.

This should be a no-brainer for fans of the series. The best thing is that there is a very easy lead-in to 'House Party 3', meaning that you don't need to see the first two from the series to sit down and watch this. However, it is a lot more fun that way. Overall, this is a pretty good black comedy with more than enough funny moments to make this worth at least a rental.

2 out of 5 stars House Party Falls Off.......2005-03-27

This movie was a huge dissapointment. I feel Kid 'N Play peaked with Class Act. House Party I is of course a classic, and I felt it was out done by House Party II (those who say this one is better than that film are our of their minds). This film came out 3 years after that one, so I guess the lack of an immediate follow up may be the first clue that this movie wasn't going to be up to standards. My main beef with this film can probably be contributed to waht was going wrong with hip hop culture at the time it came out. This movie seems slightly more thugged out than the previous House Parties. Those movies had a more pure b-boy feel to them. You can feel the impact of the westcoast gangsta bandwagon in this film. They should've just avoided this and done their own thing reguardless. I doubt this has anything to do with what Kid 'N Play would've wanted, so the blame probably goes on the writer/director/studio. They never got played out as rappers imho. Its just the industry got all messed up by this gangsta bs, and obviously a group with their kind of aesthetic could not surviive. Other things I was dissapointed by was the lack of characters from the earlier two films. Sidney gets a couple of cheap cameos instead of a starring role like she should've had. Other than Kid 'N Play and Pops' photograph, thats all there is that links this to the earlier films. However, Kid 'N Play don't even get a fair shake in this movie because alot of their screen time is stolen by those gimmickly, little midgets, Immature, who I seriously wanted to kick the sh** out of. Bernie Mac, however, is hilarious in this film, as always. Hes one of this film's saving graces. There is also a really funny family dinner scene where the crap hits the fan. Overall though, this movie is boring, unfunny, and lacking the charm of Kid 'N Play's other films. This movie has a revolving door with LOTS of "characters" who are fun to watch. They must have known the franchise was at an end, and threw in everything but the kitchen sink. No real story to get in the way. But it's fun and can be played (and sort of watched while you read or something) over and over. Why only 4 stars? Because I've been conditioned by The Man who says Citizen Kane is a classic. Yawn. HP 3 is as fun as 1 and 2, if not as "good" by conventional standards of story and character development, or even good laughs. But TLC and Immature and Chris Rock, Bernie Mac and the old guy who says his wife is "MY ho" to Mac, etc... make this one fun. Kick It!

The unrated version of this was much better then the one i saw in the movie theater.

      1 out of 5 stars bad taste.......2007-05-02

I thought this was a sexist movie. I wish they would make a movie of teenage girls looking at naked guys for a change!!!!iT'S ALWAYS THE OTHER WAY AROUND BECAUSE MEN MAKE THESE MOVIES AND THAT'S WHAT THEY WANT TO SEE!

4 out of 5 stars Trilogy Still Going Strong.......2007-02-15

I enjoyed watching this movie. Lots of laughs and sophomoric fun that you've come to expect from watching all the movies in the American Pie series! Yes, this movie is a bit predictable, but nonetheless entertaining to watch.

It is nice to see Jim and Michelle get married in this movie and all the funny things that happen and go wrong along the way in planning for the wedding!

4 out of 5 stars Still laughing .......2006-11-16

This is almost as funny as American Pie and American Pie 2, but the humor is getting more than a little predictable. However, I am still laughing so 4 stars.

4 out of 5 stars Still going strong!.......2006-08-12

Okay, so Booty Call is trashy and often sophomoric. It is still funny. Tommy Davidson and Tamala Jones have been dating for almost two months and are pushed into that big romantic night by best friends Jamie Foxx and Vivica A. Fox (as the hysterically named "Lysterine"). The friends, of course, engage in a verbal war based on instant loathing and mutual attraction. The humor is low-brow and sometimes stereotypical, but this is worth watching just for the scene in which the two guys, concerned about "safe sex," cover themselves in plastic wrap. It pushes the envelope, which is fun, but the clearly homophobic tendencies cause it to lose ground. Still, there is chemistry between the players and plenty of laugh-out-loud scenes. --Rochelle O'Gorman

      2 out of 5 stars I've seen funnier.......2007-06-27

I bought this movie for a friend who just loved it. I on the other hand think it was mediocre. Other than a handful of funny "one-liners" this movie leaves little to be desired. High point of the movie, almost seeing Vivica A. Fox naked...almost.

I love it buying products that are just how you like them.

4 out of 5 stars Very funny ;-).......2007-03-11

Sure, this isn't Oscar material, but it is very funny. I saw it years and years ago, and yesterday picked up a copy for under $10 at the mall so I grabbed it. I laughed as much as I did back then.
There is plenty of humour, raunch and mishaps here. Jamie Foxx about steals the show and Vivica A Fox is the set up for him. Each dislikes each other at the start, but soon things heat up. His best friend is finally gonna get to sleep with his seven week girlfriend and he can't wait. The hilarity starts up when everyone's about to start getting it on and problems keep cropping up.
To me, the two funniest parts is the scene at the restaurant with Jamie speaking Chinese and the scene under the table with the dog. You are not getting Disney here so be warned - but you are getting under an hour and a half of fun. This is cute and extremely light. No thinking required.

5 out of 5 stars Hilarious and smart, an underrated movie destined to be a classic farce........2006-02-21

I didn't expect to like Booty Call. On the surface it seemed like just another ghetto comedy, however, it's actually a clever sex farce that shows African-Americans in a positive light. In between the raunchy jokes there are some great messages in this intelligent story about safe sex and relationships between African-Americans.
The plot is simple: Rushon, a guy who is in a relationship with a girl for seven weeks hasn't been able to get any. So he recruits his buddy Bunz to go out on a double date with him with her next door neighbor Listerine. After a dinner of Scrimp fried rice at the Chinese restaurant they play some cards and a hilarious game of footsie under the table-one thing leads to another and...The guys have to go to the store to buy some condoms. $38.00 overspent at a Chinese store for lamsbskin condoms and some hilarious Yo-Yo jokes later it's back to the cribs and after some wickedly funny impressions from Jamie Foxx one thing leads to another...Unfortunately the condoms are lambskin, no good for safe sex. Back to the store again for latex condoms. The Chinese store is closed, but the Arab store cross-town is open 24 hours. They get the condoms but the killer the dog has to go for a walk...A dog chase later and one thing leads to another...it's back to the store for plastic wrap. More gags about a white robber and back to the crib for a nearly fatal Saran wrap disaster. The guys get tired of the blocking and decide to go home. Trying to hail a cab, the guys run into a paranoid cab driver. Dude drops his gun and bolts out of his cab. Rushon gets shot. Nothing serious just needs some stitches. A farcical trip to the hospital to get those stitches will leave you in stitches. After having to put up with so much Davidson's character finally gets some. Bunz on the other hand...Well, you'll have to see the DVD to find out what happens with him.
Tommy Davidson gives a solid straight man performance and Jamie Foxx steals scenes a Bunz, the happy go lucky buddy always looking for a good time. His best scene is where he does the impressions. Foxx's take on Dr. King's "Free at last" is hilarious! Tamala Jones is solid as Davidson's love interest Viveca A. Fox is a hoot as Listerine, the middle class woman with the freak inside her.
Creatively Booty Call is an innovative film destined to be a classic in the future. It's very rare to see African-American comedians tackle different comedy styles like dark comedy and farcical comedy in a movie and do it so well; normally I have to watch white movies like Heathers and Clockwatchers to see that type of humor utilized. The entire cast has a great script to work with featuring solid one-liners that play to the actors' strengths. Davidson has room to be straight, while Foxx has time to ad-lib and do his thing, impressions. Even Tamala Jones and Viveca Fox get jokes in this movie. It's the sign of a top quality black movie when the women have fully developed characters that are the equal of their male counterparts. So many black films forget about the sisters; I'm so glad the producers of this film treated them with respect this time.
Booty Call is a Shawn James Five Star essential Video. Pick this on up with How U Like Me now for a great at home African-American romantic comedy double feature. Both these movies are side splittingly funny while making statements about life in the black community.

3 out of 5 stars This was a cute movie.......2005-06-06

this was a cute date movie or a movie where you might want to invite a guy over to look at as you eat chineese food with some plum wine. As a Jamie Foxx lover this movie would have suffered if he was not in it. he made the movie. that is why i wanted to look at this movie. i would like to see him and Vivica Fox do another movie. actually, i can see them do a fun Doris Day/Rock Hudson remake, like "Pillow Talk" at least Jamie can use his musical skills in it. if a producer reads this, i hope they would really consider that because they make a nice acting pair and i would love to see them do more movies together. i truly enjoyed this movie. really cute.
