Directors Howard Ziehm and Michael Benveniste draw from the same cliffhanging Flash Gordon serials of the 1930s as the glitzy 1980 tongue-in-cheek space opera for their soft-core spoof. Hockey hero Flesh Gordon and often-naked love interest Dale Ardor join Dr. Jerkoff in his battle against the mad Emperor Wang from the planet Porno, who has unleashed his diabolical sex ray on the Earth. Full of toilet humor, juvenile sexual innuendo, and unending naked romps and orgies, it's hardly in the same company as the Mel Brooks genre goofs Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein. But amidst the slack direction, flat performances, and grungy photography are some lovingly crafted low-tech effects, including marvelous stop-motion creatures from Jim Danforth and spaceships courtesy of future Oscar winners Greg Jein and Dennis Muren. The film's best sequence is a King Kong tribute with a giant rampaging satyr (voiced by an uncredited Craig T. Nelson, who ad-libs quips in a cultured but expletive-filled whine) kidnapping Dale as Flesh buzzes him his phallic space ship. All the restoration in the world won't make this dark, grainy, bargain-basement parody look any better, but the retro effects, inspired score, and playful attitude make this silly sex romp a kitschy cult item from the randy 1970s. --Sean Axmaker

Chapter three of George Romero's mighty zombie trilogy has big footsteps to follow. Night of the Living Dead was a classic that revitalized a certain corner of the cinema, and Dawn of the Dead was nothing short of epic. Day of the Dead, however, has always been regarded as a comedown compared to those twin peaks--and perhaps it is. But on its own terms, this is an awfully effective horror movie, made with Romero's customary social satire and cinematic vigor--when a "retrained" zombie responds to the "Ode to Joy," the film is in genuinely haunting territory. The story is set inside a sunken military complex, where Army and medical staff, supposedly working on a solution to the zombie problem, are going crazy (strongly foreshadowing the final act of 28 Days Later). Tom Savini's makeup effects could make even hardcore gore fans tear off their own heads in amazement. --Robert Horton

I LOVED THE NIGHT AND DAWN OF. THIS ONE HAD SUCH BAD LANGUAGE I COULD NOT WATCH IT. I LOVE BLOOD AND GUTS BUT THAT LITTLE FOUR LETTER WORD, YOU KNOW WHICH ONE, REALLY PUTS ME OFF...

5 out of 5 stars The least popular in the series.......2007-05-31

"Day Of The Dead" is, without a doubt, one of the GORIEST films ever made. The premise is pretty simple. A medical team, and a military unit are holed up in an underground missile silo, occaisionally flying a helicopter up and down the coast, looking for fellow survivors, while unbelievably gruesome experiments are being performed by one of the medical personnel on captured "specimen" zombies, in an attempt at finding why the dead are walking. The soldiers just want to shoot them in the head, as that's all that has been proven to stop them; the problem? The zombies outnumber the living by at least 400,000 to one. There's just too many. With a way to modify their behavior, maybe the survivors can stand a chance, but the odds are slim to none of such an insane idea working.

Of course, tensions mount. The claustrophobic living conditions, the bleak atmosphere, and physical and mental strain are taking a very heavy toll, as hope is quickly vanishing. They just want to get out of there, but, as Doctor Logan says, "...where would you go?" People critical of this movie say it has too slow a start, but I say no. The script focuses mainly on how these people are coping, and they aren't coping very well. Detractors say the dialogue has too much shouting, but I wonder how these people themselves would act in such egregious, horrible conditions. No, it is a very well-written script, albeit not George Romero's original one, which everyone says is far superior. It is a very tense screenplay, depicting, in what I would call a very realistic scenario. Not the world being overrun with walking dead, of course, but imagine a somewhat diverse group of people who really can't stand one another, being trapped in a situation where they must cooperate, but just can't anymore. A bloodbath is just one bad day away.

The special make-up effects are among Tom Savini's best work. The zombies in this installment are more decayed looking, which ties in with how the story unfolds in the series. In "Night..." most of them look somewhat ordinary, and the black and white film just makes it eerie. In "Dawn... (the original)" Most of the undead are just discolored, with a few really nasty ones, as time has taken its toll. In this installment, in 1985, seventeen years after the contageon has started, most of them are in the final stages of post mortem rot. It really is what the world would be if such an awful thing could take place.

One little subtlety in the script, that looks like an inconsistency, but isn't, would be when Rhodes decides to start executing people. The people he shoots do not get back up. And one of the soldiers suicides after being bitten in the shoulder by a zombie. He doesn't get back up, and the hordes of undead feast on his carcass. These deaths happened underground, not from infected zombie bites. Keeping in mind, the reason for this outbreak was in "Night..." in 1968, and the reason was some kind of radioactive fallout from a contaminated space probe. The air above ground is contaminated. Hence, underground, and no reanimation. Plus, two of the deaths were from gunshots to the head, guaranteeing no reanimation.

It is a simple, yet very complex story, and some people don't get the ending. It's simple, really. The first scene (spoiler here) is a dream sequence, and after all the nightmarish events of the story, the last remaining characters flee to an island somewhere out in the ocean, and apparently one fell asleep, just to wake up on the island. Physical exhaustion. The last part of the escape, jumping to the island, is nothing more that a time-lapse in the script.

Yes, this is a very good movie of this type, one that I feel is underappreciated.

5 out of 5 stars zombie love.......2007-05-30

Don't get me wrong, here--this is a film with flaws. It had quite a low budget even for its time, and it is nothing if not completely over-the-top (but in a good way). The blood is a little too red. Some of the zombies are just people wearing black and blue spray-on paints. The ending is a bit lacking, and far too comic-booky/Hollywood for some.

However, it's still cleverly done, and once you get into it, the cut corners will fly past your vision. There are some special effects that are still amazing to this day, the characters are interesting, the dialogue is well done and at times intentionally hilarious, and it's got some of the most ridiculously gory and memorable death scenes, right up there with the sleeping bag sequence from Friday the 13th and Phantasm's first death-by-sentinel-sphere.

I can't bring myself to compare it to the other "Dead" films, because it has a distinctly different feel. It's gritty, harshly lit, and consummately '80s.

As for the zombie called "Bub"--be prepared for a rather confusing experience. I had mixed feelings about Bub at first, but now I think I'm in love with him. He is a mouldering, humanoid Gentle Ben. Sherman Howard's performance is enthusiastic, and, dare I say, cute. He obviously got a kick out of the role, and it's always nice to see actors having as much fun as he obviously did (and said as much, in the supplemental materials, which are a blast to watch in and of themselves). Don't underestimate ol' Bub, though. He proves himself to be quite the hardass in the end, even if he does love Beethoven. It's worth noting that a lot of the scenes involving Bub were mostly ad-libbed, which, if you're aware of the fact, adds to the experience.

Long story short, I love the hell out of this movie, and it's probably my favorite of the original trilogy. It's a fun romp, and if you can get past and/or embrace the idea of an adorable gun-toting zombie, you're guaranteed a rip-snortin' good time.

Watch the extras, too! It's worth it if only for the hilarious behind-the-scenes videos of actors struggling with the makeup. Buh huh huhh!

2 out of 5 stars Not very good........2007-05-29

People who are enjoying newer zombie movies like the remake of Dawn of the Dead and 28 Days/Weeks Later may want to steer clear of this one. It's full of rock stupid, bickering, cruel human characters that scream obscenities at each other. It's not good. It's really painful to watch, and I think it'll turn your soul to tar and your brain to oatmeal with repeated viewings.

The best zombie movies in my opinion are the ones that make you feel like it's the end of the world, with violent death around every corner. It's you, with perhaps a small band of survivors, trying to hold out against the destruction of civilization and the human race. This one makes me root for the zombies, and frankly, it loses me there.

I highly recommend you skip this one, and see Dawn of the Dead (2004) or 28 Days Later instead.

5 out of 5 stars Deserves a second look..........2007-05-17

When I first watched "Day of the Dead" many years ago, I must say I thought it was boring. My mind was not ready for the philisophical musings, the complicated relationships, and the strong decisions made by all of the characters.

Watching it now, I realize what an outstanding movie it really is. The plan "B" of the original idea, this movie stands out with a deep story and lots of zombie gore.

Roger Corman produced this shameless Jaws rip-off at the height of the "nature gone wild" boom of American cinema and struck B-movie gold. Scripted by John Sayles and directed by Joe Dante, this tongue-in-cheek thriller stars Bradford Dillman (doing his best Rip Torn impression) as an antisocial mountain man and Heather Menzies as a rookie detective who race a school of mutant piranha downriver. Dante and Sayles provide the requisite blood and gore for this drive-in meat market: a kids' summer camp and a waterfront amusement park await the little beasties. Along the way, riverside retiree Keenan Wynn gets his ankles stripped clean, camp counselor Paul Bartel is chomped on the cheek by a hungry little bugger who takes to the air, and hordes of unlucky bathers are caught in the center of a feeding frenzy. What differentiates this little gem from the legion of similar knockoffs are the satirical swipes at military arrogance and crass commercialism, Dante's energetic enthusiasm, and the bursts of black humor: "Lost River Lake: Terror, horror, death. Film at 11." The culty cast also includes Invasion of the Body Snatchers's Kevin McCarthy as the hysterical scientist guarding the creatures, horror diva Barbara Steele as a devious government researcher, and longtime Corman regular Dick Miller as an unscrupulous entrepreneur ("Sir, the piranha are eating the guests").

The DVD features good-humored commentary by director Joe Dante and producer Jon Davison, who also narrate the 10 minutes of good-quality home-movie footage shot by Davison. There are also six minutes of outtakes. --Sean Axmaker

4 out of 5 stars Locals will get a kick out this.......2007-04-21

This film was made at Aquarena Springs resort in San Marcos, Texas, home of Texas State University, the school President LBJ graduated from. The resort used to have mermaids and scuba divers put on a show along with a swimming pig. The university bought the park in the early 1990s to use as a preserve and to study water and environmental resource issues. The area it was filmed in is the most constantly inhabited region in all of North America, with records showing a continuous presence for more than 5,000 years straight. Piranha is not the only film shot in San Marcos, a lazy college town in between Austin and San Antonio, as the films The Getaway and The Ringer are two others that were made here. Although we don't have nearly as many films made here as Austin (Austin is probably the fourth biggest film city in the US behind New York, LA and Chicago), it's cool to know we attract filmmakers. Viewers will get nostalgic to see the old Aquarena Springs and a time when San Marcos was small, even more laid back and uncorrupted by corporate chains. If you like silly, tongue in cheek flicks on a shoe string budget, you'll like Piranha. Joe Dante got his start directing films like this before he went on to make it big with Gremlins....

4 out of 5 stars Scary, but a short film..........2007-04-04

I don't know whether to give this film (3)stars or (4). I saw this movie I believe in the 1980's I was born in 1974, so to young to know about this film all the way. During the 80's when I saw this film it was quiet scary, now after just watching this movie in 2007, well its still scary but its alittle rusty from over the years. The one disappointment is the film is a tad bit to short of a film. Maybe back in the 1970's this was normal, maybe not. It really just came and went. At the end there's not really a clear understanding if the poison actually kill most of them or what? Now there is a Part 2 movie on Piranha, which even at the end of this movie she says they can't survive in the ocean, but they do, thus spawns a Part 2. Overall, this is a good movie for its time, and the special effects are good for a 1978 film. Its worth a watch.

3 out of 5 stars Jaws it isn't, but it's definitely worth a watch.......2007-01-10

Somehow this B horror movie manages to be entirely ridiculous, and yet still entertain. Piranha walks the thin line between intentionally campy and seriously trying to scare. And it does so better than most horror films. I think the grainy films of the 70's just work better for horror. When everything's crisp you actually have to have good acting, good script, and good effects.

This film has a mediocre amount of all three of those. The piranha (genetically altered by the government, MUTANT piranha, I mean) are never really seen clearly, so their realism isn't that big a deal. The plot revolves around some campers that go missing and a woman sent to find them. She somehow immediately decides they must have disappeared at the old abandoned military facility and breaks through the locked gate to get in. Then she decides to drain their pool to see if the bodies are there, unknowingly releasing mutant piranhas into a quiet Texas river.

What ensues is one of the sillier horror/action(?) escapades ever on the screen. The two heros travel down the river on a makeshift raft to warn everyone of the piranhas and make sure that the dam doesn't get opened, releasing the piranha on to a children's summer camp.

Of course, the piranha know when anyone is in the river at any point throughout and will be there to nibble them apart in a matter of seconds. Anyway, the film never bores and the gore is pretty believable. It's also got the gratuitous breast flashing expected in early horror movies, and the open ending.

The best part of the DVD is the blooper reel. If I had my way, every movie would have a blooper reel. This one is especially good, because they're from the 70's. How many blooper reels are 30 years old?

4 out of 5 stars I'l have a little bite of this and a little bite of that..........2006-04-07

This film has various things going on in it. At times it is quite funny and tongue-in-cheek. But it does have it's ominous moments. One that stands out the most is when the summer camp kids are being nibbled on and watch their nice counselor get taken down by the relentless fish. The music during that scene is intense. But it doesn't stay too serious for very long. Not when we still have a large supply of annoying tourists to take care of down the river.
Here's the thing with a film like this: If you don't like your humour dark, you're not going to like it. But if you appreciate a good helping of cheese in your film diet, this film should fill you up. Happy Eating!!!

3 out of 5 stars Piranha (1978).......2006-01-09

Director: Joe Dante
Cast: Bradford Dillman, Heather Menzies, Kevin McCarthy, Keenan Wynn, Dick Miller, Barbara Steele, Belinda Balaski, Melody Thomas Scott, Bruce Gordon.
Running Time: 94 minutes
Rated R for violence, gore, language, and nudity.

Piranha" is a very engaging and often gross film, filled with tongue-in-cheek humor and very rich on cult aspects. Joe Dante's directing is sublime and John Sayles' screenplay ("Alligator", "The Howling") terrifically blends black parody with genuine chills and exciting action. The story is well set in a remote Texas area where the mad scientist Robert Hoak (good supportive role by Kevin McCarthy) is still working on a new secret weapon to use in the Vietnam War, even though it's already over. 'Operation Razorteeth' revolves on artificially bred piranhas that are able to survive in cold saltwater and they reproduce at a dazzling speed. When the perky investigator Maggie (Heather Menzies) and the estranged drunk Paul (Bradford Dillman) accidentally allow these finned flesh-eaters to escape in the local river, it's up to themselves again to save the nearby tourist attractions from the ravenous little monsters. That's certainly not an easy thing to achieve, considering the fact there are many corrupt politicians, businessmen and army commanders who attempt to cover the whole thing up.

"Piranha" is yet another fine example to demonstrate that the 70's were the most outrageous years for horror cinema. The witty script generally steals wholesale from Spielberg's "Jaws", but it's unscrupulous enough to add social mockery and even clean images of innocent children getting slaughtered. Throw in some extra sleaze, camp, absurd characters and stylish music and you've got yourself one of the very rare true American exploitation movies. Like it's pretty much the trademark of director Joe Dante ("The Howling", "Gremlins"), he stuffs his film with cinematic in-jokes and endless references towards other genre classics. The nasty little fishes devour their human victims in gruesome ways and what's left over isn't exactly pretty to look at. Bradford Dillman and Heather Menzies do well as the leads, but its supporting cast in particular that is worth naming. The "Roger Corman" regulars Dick Miller, Kevin McCarthy and Paul Bartel shine as the hypocrite and greedy Texans, but the casting choice that is the most appealing is Barbara Steele as the female scientist Dr. Menders. The pace of the film is good, and while the script shows some holes, the plot usually lasts out. It gets a bit hectic towards the end and Dante would have been better served with less carnage and more tension to give the movie a better finale. The effects are pretty much non-existent, as the movie just uses cuts of fish swimming and a bit of fake blood for most of it's shocks. Still, this is a very fun movie and one that people who enjoy a good time will enjoy.

5 out of 5 stars Even if you hate smutty movies..........2007-03-06

...you should definitely watch Flesh Gordon. The film is ostensibly a sex- and innuendo-loaded parody of the FLASH Gordon movies I remember watching on Channel 52 back in the 1970s when I was a kid, and of course I knew they were from another era, the Depression. The makers of "Flesh Gordon" were very successful at tongue-in-cheek humor with this film.

I will state for the record that I find the average dirty movie to be boring as hell... however, this movie did not bore me, but rather, it made me laugh! I guess it just has to do with the way the actors all maintain deadpan seriousness, as they blurt out the most hilariously farcical dirty jokes.

When I was a kid, my mother had an uncle who always used to go see this film whenever some art-house theater in downtown Los Angeles would show it... and the rest of the family would know, because every time after he watched it, he'd always barge in on the rest of us, and rattle off about how he went to see "Flesh Gordon" and oh, it was always so funny. That old guy must have seen the film thirty times... after having laughed myself silly from just watching it once, I can finally understand why!

2 out of 5 stars Worth a look.......2007-03-04

Only Worth the second stop-motion sequence, when Flesh fights a robot twig. That scene is almost flawless and as good as any Harryhausen animation. The one love scene with Flesh and the hot curvy brunette is also nice. The film is worth a rent if your curious but it's really just a lame and unfunny movie. If your open to seeing a trashy sci-fi satire of Flash Gordon with some interesting special effects give it a look. I enjoyed this movie. I orginially saw this move 30 years ago and it brought back some good memories from the seventies. I wouldn't really call it a porn movie. It's more of a movie with adult humor. I'd give it an "R" rating compared to some of the stuff that is available today.

3 out of 5 stars Flesh.......2006-12-27

This movie is like a comic, it is erotic, the female character loses her clothes during the adventures. It has a good screenplay and a touch of humour. The special effects are old but effective. The result is a singular, comical, erotic cult film.

3 out of 5 stars Second Review - First One Censored.......2006-10-06

I didn't realize that referring to a part of male anatomy would be considered inappropriate. Flesh Gordon, after all, IS an adult movie! I wrote a legitimate review, asking about the deletion of a very funny scene from the film. Very well.

When I saw Flesh Gordon 2 on cable recently, there was a most humorous scene with a stop-motion animation you-know-what. It wore lots of makeup and sounded like Julia Child. IT WAS NOT OFFENSIVE!!! Laughter is good for the soul and the body, and the movie, just barely bawdy and definitely silly, helped a rather ill person through uncomfortable and painful bandage changing.

I recommended the movie to a friend and bought two copies. Unfortunately, the scene in question was deleted from the VHS tape I purchased. I mentioned this in my censored review and asked if anyone knew which version of Flesh Gordon 2 had the deleted scene with the you-know-what. It was also to let people know that the scene was deleted.

If I have offended the review reviewers by using the correct name when writing about male anatomy, I apologize. How else should I have asked a question about the deleted scene?

5 out of 5 stars flesh gorden 2.......2006-08-11

this movie ROCKS!!!! for it has some of the sexiest sequences to ever grace a movie.the{DOG PEOPLE}were my favourite for they were quite {SEXY!!!}.this movie also has some very nice chioce in sexy weman!!!.and a couple of sexy fighting sequences as well as a funny and weird story making it an attractive movie worth collecting.although at times may seem a bit stretched out between the good parts.the fighting sequences and nudity are what i like best.

1 out of 5 stars Horrible "sequel".......2004-11-05

Like another reviewer, I loved the original Flesh Gordon (not to mention the genuine article, the Flash Gordon serials) and was thrilled to see a Flesh Gordon 2 had been made. No comparison. Not even close. It is just awful. Flesh Gordon 1 is funny, campy and loaded with interesting characters, spaceships and special effects. Flesh Gordon 2 (aside from the opening with cute, toyish spacehips) is so bad, I would be embarrassed to show it to anyone. I expected sex and nudity, of which there is practically none. I expected adventure, of which there IS none. But what this movie unfortunately DOES have is a rather lengthy scatology scene. (Look it up in the dictionary) It's endless, not funny, and eventually, uncomfortable to watch. I hated this movie as much as I loved Flesh Gordon 1. In fact, I threw Flesh Gordon 2 out--I was afraid to give it to anyone for fear they would think I was "into" such things...

4 out of 5 stars Pretty Good.......2004-08-20

I've seen a good portion of the Flash Gordon series, and I actually thought this film hit the style on the head. It had a good deal of comedy, and never took itself seriously. The acting was... terrible, but that's to be expected from a film called Flesh Gordon Meets teh Cosmic Cheerleaders. The direction is okay, nothing special, but the set design and the costume design is top notch. I found that suprising, considering that this film was probably very cheap to make. The script is fine, but it seems to just throw in everything it could think of, and at times it makes things seem way to stretched out. Yes, it's going for the original Flash's feel, but Flash Gordon was original a seriel, and could stretch out the stories if it wanted to. This film can't, and at times runs WAY to long. But some of the nice cheesy touches make the film worth while.

Now, this film does look as if it was an "adult" movie, but honestly it isn't. Yes, there are insane amounts of nudity (almost every scene includes at least one or two refrences to a part of the anatomy) but actual sexual content is kept to a minimum, with only one actual encounter, and it's entirely played for laughs and includes no nudity. Even the unrated version feels like an R rated film, with only one very brief shot and the fact that the Cosmic Cheerleaders costumes tend to ride up in certain areas, bumbing the film up to the NC-17 rating.

If you are a fan of Seduction Cinema movies then this is right up your alley. If you like cheesy adult comedies, check this out, and if you want to see Flesh Gordan with a very ugly blonde mullet, and rather hairy butt, then check this out. If you want a movie that's well made, exciting, and thoughtful... go get something else. For fans of camp, and Ghoulies 3.

1 out of 5 stars It's me again -- in the flesh............2003-06-21

Obviously this is a very silly movie. It ain't Oscar material, it has no redeeming value whatsoever. It's a movie to kick back and watch with tongue in cheek -- no pun intended. Most of the acting isn't, most of the effects aren't, and if they decide to make #3, they shouldn't.

Given the choice again, I would have preferred to have rented this one instead of buying.

2 out of 5 stars Not Classic HGL..........2006-12-27

I wanted to like this movie because I like HGL in interviews, I love his commentaries on his older DVD's, and I like horror. Campy horror is okay, exploitation films are great, gore is fine by me. Sadly, I cannot recommend this movie. The good? Well, this is the type of film where women decide to have a "lingere shower" prior to a wedding and model said lingere for each other. More nudity than you can shake a stick at. The bad? Most everything else. The jokes are occasionally funny, but mostly just terribly unfunny. The acting is miserable because it seems intentionally bad (one of the hallmarks of a good bad movie is that it wants to be good). Fuad Ramses III is cringe-inducing; the music is over used and too campy; the script is closer to "Hell Asylum" than "2,000 Maniacs." If you like gore flicks, stick with the original.

5 out of 5 stars Herschell is back for more!.......2006-08-09

Blood Feast 2 finds Herschell Gordon Lewis returning to the genre that brought him the most recognition - the splatter film. A lot of things have changed in the 39 years since the original Blood Feast (1963), but the essences remains. Blood Feast was widely influential in its time. Many directors followed Lewis' lead using exploitative gore to various degrees of success. However, with Blood Feast 2 (2002), Herschell is no longer the innovator. Where films such as 2000 Maniacs, She Devils on Wheels, and the Gore Gore Girls forged new paths in the 60s, There are two new generations of horror directors working today from John Carpenter and George Romero to Takashi Miike and Eli Roth and this is reflected in Blood Feast 2. The film contains countless references to other films such as Halloween and Fritz Lang's M. It even references the electric knife from The Gruesome Twosome!

Herschell Gordon Lewis is proud of his oeuvre, as he has stated in many interviews and commentaries, but he also knows that his films are not "high art". A number of factors such as time, money, personnel gave his films a special cheesy look. I was interested to see if the results would change now that Lewis has a bigger budget, more time, and a fair amount of celebrity. I'm happy to report that the film still feels as though it were finished in about five days. The camera work is in focus (as Herschell always insisted), but that's about all that can be said for it. The sound recording ranges from moderate to very poor. Some parts have such obvious dubbing that it seems almost intentional. The color isn't too bad, but the film looks cheap and a little grainy. This, however, could be the fault of Media Blasters who do a consistently terrible job of producing DVDs.

The acting is as terrible as ever. It's not always apparent whether the actors are trying to be cheesy or not. It's hard to believe that so many talentless individuals could be gathered to appear in one single movie. This results in many many laughs. There's nothing funnier than an actor tripping over the punch-line of a joke that is itself so bad it that it hurts. Characters, their motivations, and their temperaments can turn on a dime. One minute the young detective is bullying his secretary, the next minute he's cracking jokes. There are some wonderfully over-the-top moments featuring character actors being silly - Herschell is not above resorting to slapstick humor if necessary. There are even a few cameos by John Waters (Pink Flamingos, Female Trouble etc.), David Friedman (Lewis' partner in crime), and others.

The big draw is of course the gore, of which there is plenty. It's not so constant that it becomes tiresome, but rather is interspersed throughout the film. It's most similar to Wizard of Gore - lots of digging around torsos and such. The gore is no more convincing than it ever was. When Faud III is digging eyeballs out of a corpse, it looks as much like a dummy as the earlier films.

Overall, there is a lot here to interest the rabid HGL fan. If you've seen all of his movies, listened to the commentaries, and read the books about his work, Blood Feast 2 is incredibly rich. There were more little inside jokes than I could count. Herschell went all out with the puns for this one. There are some terrible, awful jokes that make your eyes roll right out of their sockets.

The best part of Blood Feast 2 is that it's consistently bad, but never dull. Lewis directed some steaming piles that drag on and on (Monster A-Go-Go springs to mind), but this has nice pacing through and through. There aren't any moments of obvious filler as in The Gruesome Twosome - everything seen is justified. Well, as much as a gratuitous lingerie party featuring five "model/actressess" can be justified!

The down side is the DVD production (lack of) quality. Media Blasters should be simultaneously thanked for releasing titles that are guaranteed to be poor sellers and scolded for putting out such shoddy releases. The video quality is substandard. There are some interesting special features (especially on the Special Edition), but some aren't even worth messing with because the quality is so bad. Disc one features a photo gallery of HGL and company that is so pixelated that one must wonder how much work went into making this "Special Edition". Complaining is probably useless because few others would want to touch this project, but Media Blasters should take a look at Cult Epics, Synapse, and even Criterion.

Aside from the poor video quality, the extras are pretty lame. The special edition comes with a second disc that contains about twenty minutes of video - TOTAL. There's an "on the set with HGL" where we get to see Herschell talk about how a camera is going to come down a flight of stairs. Wow. There's a "behind the scenes with the cast and crew" where a guy goes around to various people asking what they do. Amazingly, literally 80% say "nothing" or "I don't do anything" and the other 20% are actresses. There's a "behind the gore" feature that's an amazing minute and forty seconds of an actor cutting off a head and then digging through a skull. Finally, there are three deleted scenes which are uniformly dull. These extras are pathetic. The original price of $35 is beyond obscene! I wouldn't even recommend the special edition to anyone. The movie itself is the *only* good thing about this package. The extras will disappoint you - they're worthless. I think the presence of an extra disc for the "special edition" is a sneaky move on the part of Media Blasters to trick consumers into thinking that they're something of substance to be found. Certain they could have fit these twenty minutes onto the movie DVD, especially considering the video quality that they found acceptable. Don't be fooled.

Blood Feast 2: All U Can Eat is a great film from a true innovator. It's constantly entertaining, campy, and always funny. Don't bother with the two disc set though. There's nothing there.

5 out of 5 stars In the R version, more funny than gorey!.......2006-05-08

I first saw the R rated version of this that had about 6 minutes of gore cut, resulting in this tame version to have little gore. Still, I liked this movie! The gore level was low but this movie redeemed itself with its comedy and sexy scenes!!! This still was a hell of a good film even without the gore! Later I bought the unrated uncut version which is the orgiinal film with all 6 minutes of gore put back. It still basically is the same movie with or without the gore, but the unrated movie just featured extended scenes of unneeded storyless torture, violence, disembowlment and even more that was kinda fake looking, but still at a gross out level. I liked this movie with or without the gore, but for those gore hounds out there, check out the unrated version, cause this has wall to wall with gore!!

1 out of 5 stars I'm Full.......2006-03-07

I have nothing against "camp": camp can be funny, camp can be entertaining. I have nothing against "schlock"; it has its place in cheap horror films, too.

But I had no idea what kind of garbage I was about to see when I watched Blood Feast 2 - All U Can Eat. Someone needs to tell the, uh, "director" a/k/a Herschell Gordon Lewis that his special effects used in his original Blood Feast might have scared a 10-year old then. In 2006, well, it's pretty pitiful when you recycle the same old garbage--and come up with worse trash.

I am not going to tell anything about the storyline because, well, you have to have a storyline first. All this movie entails is "dialogue; gruesome scene; dialogue; gruesome scene; dialogue/nakedness/then gruesome scene. To borrow a phrase uttered by Beavis and Butthead, "these effects aren't very special". That phrase sums up this lame attempt at movie making. If I could give this "zero" stars, I would.

Don't waste your time or your money. This is probably the WORST movie I've ever seen.

In "Night..." most of them look somewhat ordinary, and the black and white film just
