Before making Batman, director Tim Burton and star Michael Keaton teamed up for this popular black comedy about a young couple (Geena Davis and Alec Baldwin) whose premature death leads them to a series of wildly bizarre afterlife exploits. As ghosts in their own New England home, they're faced with the challenge of scaring off the pretentious new owners (Catherine O'Hara and Jeffrey Jones), whose daughter (Winona Ryder) has an affinity for all things morbid. Keaton plays the mischievous Beetlejuice, a freelance "bio-exorcist" who's got an evil agenda behind his plot to help the young undead newlyweds. The film is a perfect vehicle for Burton's visual style and twisted imagination, with clever ideas and gags packed into every scene. I feel in love with this movie when it first came out, years later I am the parent and decided to puchase this movie so my children can enjoy it as well.
My son loves this movie, Michael Keton does a wonderful job of portraying the off humor Beetlejuice, Alex Baldwin and Geena Davis does a great job of being the plain Jane/John couple who dies and have not crossed over. Outstanding job to Winona Ryder as Lydia, the misunderstood teen ager who no one appears to understand.
I give this movie two thumbs up, one scene in particular that still cracks me up is when they brought back the couple, Alex's character begins to speak and his jaw falls off... not to forget the beloved scene when Beetlejuice is sitting next to the Witch Doctor and steals his number, the head shrinking scene is just too funny for words.

A Tim Burton Classic!.......2007-05-07

Adam and Barbara (Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis, as a very convincing couple with great chemistry), are dead. Now they can't leave their sprawling New England home. Good thing they've got the "Handbook for the Newly Deceased" to help guide them on their way through the beuracratic world of the dead.

They've got a problem. A new living family (Cahterine O'Hara, Jeffrey Jones, and Winona Ryder) is inhabiting their house. Worse than that, they're remodeling the place. What's a pair of ghosts to do? When they can't scare them out, they call on the help of the famous Bio-Exorcist: Beetlejuice (Michael Keaton in his best role ever).

What results is a mixture of dark comedy and sweet special effects (for the late 80's at least) set in front of stunningly imaginative and interesting scene design.

Beetlejuice is a classic, and if you haven't seen it yet, now's your chance. Since this is an old DVD there really aren't many special features. Just a lot of written "Notes" on the film, but even those are pretty cool.

I thought this movie was pretty funny and sometimes sad that someone who was born without immunity would just live in an isolation bubble in his room for mostly his whole life it really must feel like that he's a prisoner his whole life. The bubble boy is headed out to niagra falls to stop a wedding and purpose to a girl he's madly inlove with. He meets alot of people on the road bikers hippies freaks and they all are willing to help bubble boy out. The ending was pretty insane though but has a real happy ending. Did he ever get out of his bubble? see the movie and find out. The only thing I hate is the punk rock music in this movie I hate punk rock I would not buy the sound track I would Buy the movie.

Perfectly paced farce!.......2007-02-08

This was just a great time, a farce with perfect timing and pitch--crazy characters all around doing expected and sometimes unexpected things. Brought all the parties together nicely at the end, and used well the opportunity to poke fun at just about everybody. Jakey's goofy grin, bedroom eyes and overall innocence... what a killer combo! The "$500!" back-and-forth sequences had me on the floor, and I don't know how they did that with a straight face.

"Five Hundred Dollars!" This movie is a classic. I can sum it up in one word, "Beetlejuice". Not the movie, the actor who gained fame (?) on Howard Stern. He cracks me up. The cast as a whole takes the premise of the movie seriously and that leads to some over the top performances, especially the mother as played by Swoosie Kurtz. Sit Down, Press Play, and Start Laughing.

I finally got over my snobbery to actually watch this movie and I'm so glad that I did. True the premise get a little old somewhere around the middle, but Gyllenhaal keeps you interested and emotionally invested--a sign of a truelly good actor. Warning: you need to be in a goofy mood to enjoy this film. Recommended.

Great Casting Choice, Very Funny Movie.......2006-06-18

This movie is an underated comedy that deserves more credit that it recieved when it came out in theaters. Critics were quick to stomp all over this movie because of the so-called insensitivity to bubble community. Everytime a movie comes out all different kinds of groups have to come out and spoil something great. This movie has a great story line and an amazing cast. Of course Swoozie as the over protective mom just made this movie even better as it went on. Jake does comedy very well and brings this bubble boy character to life. See the movie and judge for yourselves.

As a collector of Cher's music I enjoyed the DVD. A suprise that the interviewer had not done enough research and was unaware that Cher had a son. This did not do the great lady justice and was a bad oversight.
