Director Steven Soderbergh brings a playful spirit and a touch of genius to this oddly gentle Hollywood exposé. Full Frontal follows the lives of several people connected by varying degrees to the production of Rendez Vous, the film within the film that itself contains a film within a film. This layering and teasing of movie-industry standbys happens throughout: L.A. Law star Blair Underwood plays an actor who plays an actor who is a TV star who is making the jump to the big screen, major stars pop up as bit players playing themselves, and even the opening credits are a sly, dead-on parody of opening credits. The actors are clearly having a terrific time skewering movie insiders and, like any members of a family, are allowed to be both more affectionate and more vicious to each other than outsiders. Standouts in a uniformly marvelous ensemble cast include David Hyde Pierce as one of the screenwriters, and Nicky Katt as an actor doing a truly wretched Hitler. Full Frontal is beautifully written, beautifully performed, and brilliantly realized. --Ali Davis

Shape-up Front
Jillian Michaels, the trainer from NBC's The Biggest Loser and self-proclaimed "TV's toughest fitness guru," runs through circuit training like a drill sergeant on caffeine. Her theory is to keep moving in between exercises to burn twice as many calories, so she cycles her team through sumo squats, mountain climbers, jump ropes, shoulder raises and bicycle moves without taking a breath. If she doesn't think one of her comrades is picking up his knees high enough, she makes everyone do 30 more, with a sadistic grin. As a result, you can almost literally watch the muscle burn. Michaels' Shape-Up Front DVD works out the chest, shoulders, triceps and quads. It also requires two props: a bench-style exercise step and light dumbbells. The DVD features include printable diet/exercise logs, nutrition tips and recipes. Despite a lower-level option, it isn't for anyone looking for a low-impact aerobic workout.
Shape-Up Backside
Look no further than Michaels's Shape-Up Backside exercise DVD for an intense high-impact workout. Michaels keeps your body moving (though she herself skips out on half the exercises) with hammer curls, oblique raises, step ups, planks, and a move called The Superman destined to tone your back, biceps glutes, hamstrings and abs. There's a lower-level option, but Michaels likes to "kick your butt," as she says, to get you to feel the burn. Shape-Up Backside's DVD features include printable diet/exercise logs, nutrition tips and recipes. It requires two props: a bench-style exercise step and light dumbbells, which may make it difficult for beginners. But if you give it a try, even in the comfort of your living room you'll think you're in a gym -- trainer yelling in your ear and all. -- Ellen A. Kim

Didn't get any kicks out of this workout.......2007-07-02
I wouldn't call this workout "kickbox." It's more of a bootcamp class with some kickbox stuff thrown in. It's pretty boring and the music is lousy. The instructor is a bit full of herself and she doesn't give any sort of safety or form advice. If you want a great workout with a great instructor try Silk Manning. I wish he made more than one video. Plus Kathy Smith's videos are always great.
Highly Disappointed.......2007-07-02
Love the show "Biggest Loser", but could barely stand to watch her DVD. Waste of money. She hardly does any of the exercises and spends more time flirting with the guys than the workout itself. Huge disppointment.
Short workout, but packs a punch........2007-06-23
I like this workout led by Jillian. It is short, but works up a sweat. The entire workout length itself is around 24 or 25 minutes long consisting of 21 minutes of cardio followed by a 3 to 4 minute cool down. The good thing about this workout is that it is very easy to follow along with. There are no combinations or dance type routines to learn. It is as simple as doing 30 jumping jacks, then 10 leg kicks on the left, then 10 leg kicks on the right, etc., counting as you go. Jillian does have a bit of a drill sergeant persona and comes across as tough. For example, she makes everyone drop and do push ups when one of the girls asks "is that it?" when she think the workout is over, but that just seems to be her style. Good overall short workout.
Awesome workout.......2007-06-12
I love these workouts! She really keeps your heart-rate going and gives you a great workout! If you're looking to lose weight, or just keep in shape, these are for you! I've been working out for years, and got hooked on tae-bo, but I really love the weight-oriented workouts that Jillian provides. I absolutely recommend them!
Best money ever spent on health & fitness.......2007-06-11
This has got to be the best money I've ever spent on a health/fitness item! Jillian Michaels is truly inspirational for people with a strong goal in mind and this set of DVD's is definitely helping me on my way to achieving that goal!

In this program, it will train all the same muscles that were used in Shape Up - Front, but mixing it up to keep the body from adapting by doing a completely different set of exercises. This will really up the burn and whip them into shape.
Customer Reviews:
wish there were more for the money.......2007-03-10
this is a really good workout, but it is short and I wished there had been at least one additional workout included on the DVD for the $$. Also the extras that were on the DVD weren't really useful to me.
Tuff girl.......2007-02-13
This workout packs a lot of punch into 30 minutes. It is a tough workout. Jillian is a good instructor and knows her stuff, but her 'tuff but sexy' thing she's got going on gets a little annoying in places. If I was one of the people in the DVD getting harrassed by her I might sneak out of there for fear she's beat me up for leaving.
Awesome work out.......2007-01-14
I ordered all of Jillian's videos after this intial purchase! This is one of the few workouts I have ordered that really is as great as it sounded!
Encouraging .......2007-01-09
I really enjoyed doing this workout. I felt every single muscle in my body the next day and like they say no pain no gain. I just wish that I could meet and Jillian and be on her show with her. I am really struggling with my weight at this time in my life. I am 40 years old and seem to be putting it on instead of taking it off. Please Help me out Jillian. Sincerely, Kimberly M. Rosato

Customer Reviews:
This movie is awful, just awful.......2006-12-09
This was a very bad movie. It was very disjointed, confusing, no story and in my opinion worthless. The movie was presented in a documentary style about making a movie. The acting was very poor and the script was awful. That is something that I don't say very often because I am the one that likes B movies. The only reason that I would have given this movie 2 stars would have been that David Duchovny was totally nude. Well, the scene was about 2 seconds long, blurry and shot at an angle that you knew that he had something between his legs, but you really couldn't see it well enough to say it was worth the movie price. Don't waste your time with this one, it isn't worth the plastic that it is packaged in.
Definitely worth seeing.......2006-06-01
Sure, you could accuse this little film of trying to be too clever for its own good, and you may be right, but it has enough plot and dialog to carry it, and the actors were comfortable and confident in their roles. Frankly, this is more than you can say for most of what comes out of Hollywood these days, which (for me, anyway) is recommendation enough. I've now seen it twice, and that second viewing is where movies either stick with me or quickly become forgotten. I'll watch this one again, to be sure.
uhhh... It's Different! .......2006-01-07
Interesting.
The cast was interesting, fun to see them all. Am I getting old? This was strange, different, interesting, but weird.
Really enjoyed seeing Blair Underwood, Julia Roberts, David Hyde Pierce, and a teeny little bit of Brad Pit. The wife of Carl, Lee, played by Catherine Keener was amazing, even if I didn't understand what was going on - she was super to watch.
David Duchovny as Gus... cute, as always, but I missed something. Everyone kept talking about Gus.. but he wasn't in it much, only as Bill in the massage scene with the girl that is looking for love on the internet. Nice that she found it.
What I found annoying (but, at the same time, made this different) was the direction, and the switchbacks from fantasy to reality - or which WAS reality, I'm confused....
Everyone is just lovely. Just not sure if they went too artsy fartsy and lost half the audience.
not too good but not too bad..........2005-10-04
...just make liberal use of the Fast Forward button!
As others have noted, this is a pretty disjointed random set of vignettes, many of them full of film school pompousness and indie cliches, but there are some gems here and there.
The really HIGH SCHOOL dead spots though, like the interminable scenes on the set of a contemporary artsy fartsy avant Hitler play, simply beg to be skipped through.
I recommend watching this film as a collection of notoriously uneven shorts. Just skip through the garbage and enjoy what gems you can find.
Certainly would not buy it though...God bless Netflix!
diluted tenderness, lazy vocabulary.......2005-02-11
When a script utilizes the f-word ten times in a scene at a traffic light, I find myself wanting to beam in a thesaurus. I do not care for excessive profanity, partially due to personal convictions, but also due to what repetitive profanity represents artistically--a lazy vocabulary. Passion and anger and shock and dejection and even annoyance cannot effectively receive proper expression by the same handful of vulgarities. In this story in particular, characterization is blurred by poorly articulated emotions.
Tenderness which peaks out during the final scenes might have resonated more richly had the script employed more creative lines and less repetion of a generic shock-word which typically dulled the audience's comprehension of a character's motives and intentions.
Nearly all actors involved served their parts well. Julia Roberts' role seemed underdeveloped (not her fault), and Nicky the Nazi felt cartoonish and tacked onto the otherwise love and lust driven plot.
Filming technique enhanced more than it detracted. Music was generally apropos. The varying storylines intersected well, and the concise production length enabled the viewer's sufficient emotional investment in each tale.

Oh, Spike & Mike, what has happened to you?.......2006-06-18
Well, the stop-action furniture piece was somewhat amusing, beyond that, there is nothing I can really recommend here. Poor concepts, poor execution, and yes, flash animation you can get for free online (Happy Tree Friends). Don't waste your time or money friends, this is a clunker! in The early 90s, Spike & Mike used to be a must-see showcase of animation, but this...bottom of the barrel.
amateur DVD that looks like a video cassette dub.......2004-08-03
Very poor all around... the one or two cartoons on here that are actually any good are of very poor video cassette quality. I felt like I was watching an amateur VHS dub, instead of a properly authored DVD.
Thankfully the decent cartoons on here are available on other more professional DVD releases.
A word to the wise consumer: don't be fooled just because the format is DVD! DVD does not mean anything if the source materials that an amateur company uses are sub par!
This one is for the ages.......2004-04-23
The second dvd in the sick and twisted collection is one of the best dvd's i ever bought. It has it all, maakies, Happy tree friends, and the tripped out horned grandma. Clocking in under 2 Hrs this is defenaty a party dvd to show.
Don't waste your money.......2004-03-19
I can only guess the positive reviews listed here were written either by children or employees of this DVD's distributor.
I've been involved with independent animation for over thirty years and this is a very desperate "scraping the bottom of the barrel" collection indeed - only one or two of the pieces here are worthwhile, and are available on far higher quality collections elsewhere (in terms of video and audio quality).
The rest of the pieces are subpar, barely-animated Flash cartoons that most websites would be embarrassed to host for free.
The DVD is also very poorly produced and has no extras.
1/5
Best one yet.......2004-02-21
I don't usually like cartoons, but this one really had some very funny bits. There was some real violent skits called Happy Tree Friends that was very witty. Can't wait for the next one, Unprotected - I'll tell you all how it is.

Disappointing.......2007-06-08
These 'dancers' just wriggle on a super-imposed backdrop. The models are very average and there seems to have been no direction to pose or perform. I bought this DVD because I already owned two 'Primal' DVDs that had been filmed in the wild outdoors and there is no comparrison in photographic quality. The models there were very hot too. This new DVD was for me a complete waste of time and money. Sorry.

The varying storylines intersected well, and the concise production length enabled the viewer's sufficient emotional investment in each tale.

amateur hour.......2004-03-31
I have no clue who buys this garbage? Someone gave me a copy on DVD at a video store. he said they couldn't sell any. It is amateur film making, not funny, just a complete mess. And the director :::cough cough::: was the lead actor? That explains everything. This guy should shoot himself in the head.
who financed this crap?.......2003-12-07
The 2 big questions are, "Who financed this garbage", and why is this goon allowed to direct movies. Pray to God this guy never directs again.
Useless nonsense.......2003-10-13
amateur hour with a digital video camera. What a useless piece of trash this was. The director is horrible, the camera work is awful, and the actors stunk. Crap crap crap!!!!
FULL FRONTAL.......2003-04-22
I rented this movie expecting to see a movie. This DVD is the most disjointed, uncohesive piece of gargage that I have ever witnessed. There is absolutely no connection of one scene to the next. What is the story, plot, or message in this offering? I find it absolutely a waste of time to even try to make sense of it. I couldn't even watch it to the ending. Garbage!!
this home movie stunk to high heaven.......2003-04-16
the director should stick to his day job; washing dishes.

--Ali Davis
