A romantic comedy set against the background of the Seattle grunge scene of the late '80s and early '90s, Singles contains music and/or cameo appearances by the music groups who defined the movement, including Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, Mudhoney, Screaming Trees, Mother Love Bone, and others. (For a definitive documentary treatment of the same pop-music phenomenon, see Hype!) The plot is really a series of interconnected stories about various Seattle singles--some of who are part of a couple, at least temporarily. Matt Dillon plays a longhaired rocker whose girlfriend (Bridget Fonda) is considering breast enlargement surgery. As Steve and Linda, Campbell Scott and Kyra Sedgwick are going through the awkward stages of a relationship--that point when quirky little traits that may have seemed attractive initially can evolve into major annoyances. It's a funny, sweet, enjoyable picture that captures some of the flavor of the Northwest, where writer-director Cameron Crowe relocated after marrying Seattle native Nancy Wilson of Heart. (The Wilson sisters also appear on the soundtrack as members of The Lovemongers.) Ten years before the release of Singles in 1992, Crowe was the "boy wonder" reporter for Rolling Stone magazine who went back to high school in order to research and write what became Fast Times at Ridgemont High. His other work includes Jerry Maguire (1996) and Say Anything (1989). --Jim Emerson

2 out of 5 stars mild mannered characters...boring.......2007-06-24

I watched this movie for the first time last night, and I wasn't terribly impressed. I normally like Cameron Crowe's films so I expected more.
The actors are great, but it's the story I didn't care for.

In my opinion, these characters are all so mild mannered....so boring to watch. It seems like everybody in this movie is too concerned about hurting others feelings that I find myself yawning. Not enough emotional extremes. Everybody ends their relationships on the 'lets be friends' kind of thing. Anybody who's ever been jealous or dumped knows that the arena of love is never always that friendly. Far more interesting to watch when it isn't....I think.
Heck, I could take situations out of my own life and write them into a far more entertaining screenplay than SINGLES.

3 out of 5 stars Okay, Who Stole My Life?.......2006-10-31

This movie was made in 1992. I was 27 years old. Three years away from being thirty and I still didn't have a clue about dating. All I know is that I hated it. Watching this movie really made me laugh, but walking out of the theatre I felt like I deserved a cut of the proceeds from this film, because my life was up there on the screen.

Sad, awkward...but surprisingly very funny.

Because this movie was at the height of the "Grunge Scene" which, coincidentally enough, lasted about as long as this movie, it does tend to date the film. I can just hear my little grandkids, "You wore a lumberjack shirt, a wooly cap, baggy jean shorts, and construction boots, Grampa? Didn't you live in California? Weren't you hot with all those clothes?"

"Yeah, I was hot...but damnit, I was cool..."

Yeah, I once was cool. I can never ever return to the land of cool. Oh, I can be stylish. I might also have the possibility of being hip, but I can never be cool again which really doesn't bother me because all uncool people say that to make themselves appear cool.

But back to the movie, it is a pretty accurate account of the dating life in the 90s. Maybe this should be considered more of a documentary than entertainment. I don't know what dating is like now. Thank God, I got married. It's a good thing I never dated my wife.

She's gonna kill me for saying that.
Oh, well...live dangerously. That's what all uncool people say to sound cool.

It is a good film and it does have a great soundtrack and sometimes I dust off the construction boots and put on my wooly cap and I hit the mall.

Yep, I live life on the edge. I'm a 41 year old trying to get his foot back in the door.

Peace and Blessings, everyone...

5 out of 5 stars Singles well worth multiple viewings!.......2006-02-23

Singles came out in the early 90's, a time that to me, was all about the grunge scene. I was in high school then so this was the norm for us all. But as I got older, I never outgrew Singles. In fact, I think I began to relate to it even more as I gained more life experience. Anyway, here is a wonderful comedy that offers us all a glimmer of hope in this overpopulated world. We meet a group of friends who are various tennants in the same apartment building in Seattle. Singles centers around Cliff (Dillon) a struggling musician, his girlfriend Janet (Fonda) who has put Cliff's needs before her own for the last time, Linda (Sedgwick) who thinks she's found "the one" until she discovers him in a bar with another girl when he told her he was going back to Spain, Steve (Scott) who spent his dating career playing the field, and Debbie (Kelley) who searches for Mr. Right via video dating service (oh-so hilarious). The main story is about Linda & Steve meeting and the relationship that blossoms from it. If you were a big fan of grunge when it was popular you'll fall in love with Singles (with bands like Soundgarden, Mother Love Bone, and even Alice in Chains featured). Many funny moments abound (this shouldn't spoil anything for you should you be the 1 person left in Wyoming or something who hasn't seen this movie) including a run-in with a pessimistic mime (played by Eric Stoltz), Debbie's dating video and Steve's story about learning about sex as a child, but that's about all I can say without giving it all away. And for a price this low, Singles is a steal as it is something you will watch again and again and again.

5 out of 5 stars one of the best movies ever made........2006-01-23

Singles... This movie touches on almost everything that could happen in a relationship. The characters are great, the senarios are real. It's a great movie. this is one to watch alone, or with someone else. or with a group of people. I love it.

4 out of 5 stars Pretty Good.......2005-12-29

"Singles" is written & directed by Cameron Crowe (Jerry Maguire, Almost Famous, and Vanilla Sky) and features an all-star cast including Matt Dillon,
Bridget Fonda, Kyra Sedgwick, and Bill Pullman. The film also features Chris Cornell (formerly of Soundgarden, currently of Audioslave) and the members of Pearl Jam (Eddie Vedder & Co.). The film follows several stories; One is about Cliff (Dillon) the lead singer of Seattle band Citizen Dick. Cliff is under the impression that he's a rock god (the members of Pearl Jam are his band with Eddie Vedder on drums) and is worshipped by his neighbor Janet (Fonda). Meanwhile we follow the story of Linda (Sedgwick) who has had enough of guys and decides to stay single until she meets Steve (Campbell Scott). It's an awesome movie for anyone who dug the Seattle grunge scence; The soundtrack rocks, featuring songs by Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Mother Love Bone, The Smashing Pumpkins, Alice in Chains,
The Lovemongers, etc. The movie is well acted, Fonda is hot; Dillon is very cool and funny. The movie is well written and very entertaining. A few parts of the film fall short; but other than that. Don't pass it up. B+

5 out of 5 stars All Jamiroquai's Greatest On DVD!! .......2007-03-10

I have to echo the other reviewer who said that this is a
must for all true Jamiroquai fans!--
This is a great visual accompaniment to all the great music
that Jamiroquai has made in the last 15 yrs!
I became a fan of Jay Kay and the gang in 1994 with the band's
second album "Return Of The Space Cowboy" and that one remains
one of my favorites by them.
My favorite period is from 1992's "Emergency On Planet Earth"
to 2001's "Funk Oddysey"...that was good stuff!
Like I said in my review of "Space Cowboy",
I don't get the vocal comparisons to Stevie Wonder
that alot of people say about Jay Kay
because they sound absolutely nothing alike!
(And trust me, I know the Stevie Wonder reportoire very well!)
Jay Kay has his own thing: vocally, personality
and stage presence-wise! I love the way he moves, as if
defying space & time itself! As for the music, they do rely
on the 70's lexicon, but that's not a bad thing at all!
That music was real, organic, atmospheric and soulful with
lyrics that had meaning, melodies that got down into your psyche
and musical dynamics and sophistication that made it timeless!
If anything, the british kids of the late 80's and early 90's
were doing exactly what they should've been doing here in America..
putting a new spin on the old and creating a statement for the future!
Stuart Zender is an absolutely incredible bassist!
It's like the late Bernard Edwards of CHIC, Verdine White of E,W&F
and Larry Graham of Sly & The Family Stone / Graham Central Station
morphed and merged into the body of a young white kid!
Jay Kay was a fool to let him go!!

In this day and age of over-choreographed, contrived,
corporate-sponsored pop drivel that lacks substance,
it was acts like Jamiroquai, The Brand New Heavies,
Me'shell N'Degeocello, Floetry, Maxwell, D'Angelo and a few
others that kept me going throughout the 90's!
More young people should pick up instruments, study their craft
and breathe life back into popular music, be it R&B/Funk,
Jazz, Alternative, Rock--(Whateva!)--Just make your own statement!
This collection of videos is even more the bomb for me,
being an american and never getting to see these videos
as they came out (with the exception of
"Virtual Insanity" & "Alright" )because american
radio stubbornly refused to embrace Jamiroquai's music.
SO----Long story short!
Buy This DVD collection if you like good music.
PERIOD!! (-:

5 out of 5 stars Worth Getting for all true fans.......2007-02-14

I had the opportunity to watch this DVD last night. From start to finish. Over the years I had always wished that Jamiroquai was promoted more in the U.S so that their videos would be available to watch on a regular basis. That's why this DVD is well worth purchasing. Especially since it covers videos from the early years. An added bonus, are the "Jay" interviews at the end of the DVD. GREAT buy for all the TRUE Jamiroquai fans.

5 out of 5 stars A MUST......If you're a Jamiroquai fan .......2007-01-17

I personally have been waiting for Jamiroquai to release a video dvd
.......and it's finally here. I got my copy at Virgin records on Hollywood
and was actually surprised when I played it because of the extra stuff that they put in there....It's worth getting it.

1 out of 5 stars SOUND REALLY SUCKS !!!.......2007-01-10

I have been waiting a long long time for Jamiroquai to release a DVD with their best videos. Well, the time has unfortunately come. Don't get me wrong, the compilation is excellent but the sound quality of this DVD REALLY REALLY SUCKS !!! For all of you who are lucky like me to own a large Home Theater system (AVR Denon 5800, DVD Denon 2800, B&W Speakers DM605S2, DM602S2 and LR6S2, PB12-Plus/2 SVS Subwoofer and InFocus projector) you will hate this DVD to the bone. Every video was recorded in its original sound. Not only didn't they re-masterize the tracks to DTS or Dolby Digital but the stereo sound was left 'as it is' or should I say 'as it was', with its original sound, not even the 'stereo' was re-masterized. YES, believe or not, every track has different response to treble and bass as well as 'sound quality'. I still can't believe Jamiroquai allowed this DVD be released with such terrible sound.
Jamiroquai, next time try hiring some of the people who worked on the sound quality of Queen, Genesis, Phil Collins or Peter Gabriel DVDs.

5 out of 5 stars Best Music Video Dvd Ever!!!!.......2006-12-02

This dvd is the best video compilation i've purchased in a while. it contains all of jamiroquai's videos in chronological order plus awesome interviews with Jay Kay in the bonus features. I would have to say that my favorite videos would have to be: Space Cowboy, You Give me Something, Dont Give Hate a Chance, and Canned Heat. This dvd is a must for any Jamiroquai fans. Alot of these videos were very hard to find in the U.S. before this was released. Its Four Stars from Me!!!!

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars This is a great movie from beginning to end........2006-06-19

Although I am no longer a member of the L.D.S. faith, and their doctrine will always seem "off the wall" to me, I found this movie to be very enjoyable. This is a "mainstream" comedy that emphasizes the more normal side of the L.D.S. religion. This is the only L.D.S. based movie that I have enjoyed watching (and the only L.D.S. based movie that is worth watching). The soundtrack of the L.D.S. "primary" songs in the movie are wonderfully sung in a positive, upbeat manner. This is definitely worth your time and money. Enjoy!

1 out of 5 stars Could have been better.......2006-06-09

I know many people who get quite defensive when I tell them of my dislike for the movie, "The Singles Ward." Right away, I hear things like, "It's people like you who give good movies a bad name," or "Oh sure! And I suppose a Hollywood movie, with plenty of swearing and potty humor, would have been better?"

To set the record straight, I love movies that are void of curse words and/or potty humor. In fact, I'll gladly watch a Jimmy Stewart or Cary Grant movie anyday over most of the crap movies Hollywodd puts out nowadays. But just because a movie script is clean, doesn't instantly make it high quality, and an example of this is, "The Singles Ward."

The premise sounds interesting enough. A divorced man tries to find his way back into the LDS Church via the singles scene. But this is what dissapointed me the most about, "The Singles Ward" is that it could have been a whole lot better.

Each and every character in this film is so one-dimensional that it was almost painful to watch. The two main characters for example, Jonathan and Cammie, just felt like Utah-LDS stereotypes. And at times, the supporting cast almost seemed like a bunch of robots, just going through the motions of how the outside world views LDS Church members.

Towards the end of this film, there are several moments where the focus turns from comedic to dramatic, but I felt this just made the movie worse. It's almost as if the director was apoligizing for how bad the script was, and had decided to plug in a little tension in order to somehow make the movie better. Sorry, but it just makes the movie sink faster.

The cameos of all the local LDS celebrities is more distracting than anything else. And the music in this movie, hate to say it, but it was embarrassing to listen too.

The only kudos I give this movie is that it did attempt to address a subject matter that hits close to home for many Latter-Day Saints - The dating and courship scene. Maybe the next time someone makes a film on this subject, the characters can be real people with real thoughts and emotions, instead of just cardboard cutouts in a cardboard cutout world.

There are many people, like myself, who demand high quality movies, minus the language, filth and violence, and there are indeed many movies out there like that. Sadly, "The Singles Ward" isn't one of them.

5 out of 5 stars Best Mormon Movie So Far.......2005-11-28

I am a Mormon and I grew up in the church.Even if we don't have any Singles Ward in this country,we can still relate about the agony when it comes to finding an eternal companion. And what's great about this movie is that it pokes fun at our frustrations, without being preachy. There are lots of genuinely funny moments in this movie, including the ones when Jonathan is doing "stand up comedy" (Seven Brides and One Brother!) and when he was caught by his friends talking alone, etc.
I dont think we should treat this movie too seriously.Though this movie will inspire us and will remind us about how "cool" it is to be a Mormon, this is mainly a romantic comedy, its not necessary (at least in this movie) to include all the teachings of our church.
I think this is the best Mormon Movie so far (haven't seen "The Best Two Years" and "Home Teachers" though)."The RM" is really great too I highly recommend it.I didnt like "Charly" and "The Other Side of Heaven" that much.

2 out of 5 stars Had Good Parts.......2005-10-05

This movie was better than "The Home Teachers" but not nearly as good as "The RM". Good sterotypes and some funny scenes, but I saw "The RM" first and expected the same enjoyment out of this movie and it was lacking. See if your library has it. I wouldn't spend much money buying a copy.

4 out of 5 stars Life is tough, and then you have to go a courtin'.......2005-07-25

There are several ways to approach this film.1st,as an academic analysis-You can rip it to shreds. Why bother. This isn't an attempt to impress the hoity-toity,brie and wine crowd.2nd-a great glimpse into to the utter hilarity of being a member of the church in question, the secret handshake words and phrases, the odd social mores,it's all to die for. No,I watch for insights into the horror of finding a mate of a certain type if you missed the window of opportunity that is most appropriate for young Mormons, you know, that 1st 6 months after your mission and for females anytime BEFORE your bishop starts eying you for a mission. The pathetic nature of the desperation ,resignation or withdrawl you see in a typical singles ward can be entertaining and heartbreaking at the same time. The mating rituals of the over the hill "good"girls and boys does invite more study. In order not to do crazy things,I guess it is good to approach this subject with humor. There is a lot more material to be mined here. This effort, based on the constraints of ,mainly, money is quite good,I would give it two thumbs up.

Product Description

The Best Two Years tells the story of four missionaries who share an apartment in Amsterdam, Holland. Elder Rogers (KC Clyde) has only a couple of months to go on his mission, but his testimony and zeal for missionary work has suffered from hardships he experienced in letters from home. He is now only serving out his time with as little effort as possible when he is given a "greenie" from Oklahoma as a junior companion. Elder Calhoun (Kirby Heyborne) has the enthusiasm, innocence and naiveté of a new missionary, and the relationship between the two creates some very funny moments. These two elders share a typical missionary apartment with Elders van Pelt (Cameron Hopkin) and Johnson (David Nibley). Elder van Pelt fancies himself a rather handsome ladies man who is keeping an ongoing correspondence with three "girlfriends" back home. He is also very ambitious, and sees himself as quickly moving up the ranks of missionary leadership. Elder Johnson is Elder van Pelt's senior companion, and has a more "seasoned" view of being a missionary. He is looking forward to returning home and marrying his girlfriend, with whom he keeps an active correspondence going. Both elders have certain habits that tend to wear on the other.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Easily the best Mormon themed movie available..........2007-04-17

First off, you do NOT have to be LDS (Mormon) in order to enjoy this movie, but having served a Mission certainly helps to make the humor a bit more enjoyable I believe. I'd go into detail about that, but you really HAVE to serve a Mission to fully appreciate a lot of the subtle (and sometimes outright) jokes.

With that said, I was pretty much giving up seeing these LDS themed films for the simple fact that they were (for the most part) becoming a serious threat to good taste...and by that I mean most of them were just boring. Sure they would have a few laughs, but man were they becoming tiresome. The Best Two Years tackles the religious theme from a totally new angle and succeeds on all levels. First off, despite how odd some of the Missionaries are portrayed, ask ANYBODY who has ever served two years and they can ALL recall at least a handful of elders who were VERY similar -- making the movie even more believable.

The setting in Holland was a surprisingly good one because it almost became the uncredited 5th character in the movie. The reality of the situation is a simple one, and I believe very much provides the drama (and the humor) of what serving a Mission is really like. We have an apartment with two sets of Missionaries, one getting ready to go home and not a moment too soon, either...one brand new and more than thrilled to be serving...one who is quite full of himself and the District Leader who for the most part is a good leader to the other 3. I saw it over and over again as Missionaries received the almost inevitable Dear John from their girlfriend back home. I don't know if there are even actual statistics regarding the girls who really wait the whole 24 months, but I'd have to say at least 65% do NOT wait...What I truly liked about this particular movie was just how honest and real the movie felt as I watched it. How one eager and excited person can jump-start another who felt his engine dry up long before the newbie even showed up. This realism made the whole experience one that really hit home as well as brought to the surface a gigantic load of previously lost memories of amazingly similar circumstances.

For those who are concerned the film is *Preachy* in an attempt to draw you into the Mormon faith, that couldn't be further from the truth. While I WILL say a rather large chunk of the movie simply will not make sense if you are not a member of the LDS religion, you don't HAVE to be a member in order to appreciate fine movie-making. Even though the movie is fictional, it was as true-to-life as I believe you can expect these days. VERY well made and I just can't tell you the number of laughs I had during places that nobody else did -- all because of my own personal experience out if *the field*. I also enjoyed the soundtrack quite a bit. All in all, this is easily the best Mormon themed movie available today (IMHO).

5 out of 5 stars Great work.......2007-03-26

Along with Saints and Soldiers, this is one of the better films put out by the LDS filmmakers. This one, not like most of the LDS films, is able to carry a strong message.

5 out of 5 stars A fantastic flick.......2007-01-15

This is easily the best film in the Mormon film genre. Beyond being a great "mormon movie," it's just a great movie. The screenplay is good, the acting is good, the music is good, the cinematography is good, everything is good. I highly recommend it.

5 out of 5 stars A Great Film.......2007-01-04

Yes, this is a film about missionaries from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; a "Mormon movie," if you will. But I not only count it as my favorite Mormon movie, I count it as one of my top five favorite movies of all time. Yes, I am Mormon, and if that might lead you to believe I am biased, maybe you're right! :-) But I've only been Mormon for a year or so, and I've been a movie enthusiast practically my whole life. This film contains everything a good movie should: great characters with internal and external conflicts, friendship, love, character growth, and a satisfying ending. All this (and more), and it's filmed in one of the most beautiful places in the world. It truly made me laugh and cry. I whole-heartedly recommend this film, whether you are LDS or not.

5 out of 5 stars Very funny.......2007-01-04

I liked this movie a lot. It reminded me of my own mission. Much better than God's Army.

Customer Reviews:

1 out of 5 stars Not enought Chemicals,Brother.......2006-03-27

very boring inane methodical beat that goes on and on and on and on and on and on the "songs, tunes" do not develop its the same beat on and on and on....... visuals are boring if you like good visuals and great pounding progressive rave like music the best is MOby Live (the Remix part of the dvd which goes for about an hour ) or Underworld LIve all the rest from this field that I have (unfortunately) purchased ,like FatBoy and the like,to be honest suck

5 out of 5 stars The Private Psychedelic Masterpiece 93-03.......2004-10-13

The main thing I appreciated about this DVD were the promos. Each promo makes you respect that song more in so many different ways. Unlike Moby's PLAY DVD, The Chem. Bros. give each video a kind of adventure or purpose while keeping you motivated through every beat. My personal favorites were 'Block Rockin' Beats' with these two people on the run from the police apparently, getting caught in the end, while on their journey, run into Tom and Ed in a sort of club. 'Star Guitar' was absolutely impressive with a view from outside the window of a train as everything that passed you (bridge, pole, etc...) represented each beat and rythem...you must look carefully, otherwise you might not understand the video in general. My other favorites include Out Of Control, The Test, and Setting Sun promos ('Life Is Sweet' creeps me out even to this day). The LIVE cuts are another KEY part of this DVD collection. Even when you sit at home on your couch or in your room doddling on your computer, the LIVE cuts can still make you feel like you are very much there with the strobing lights and scratched/mixed up beats through Hey Boy Hey Girl, Hoops/Setting Sun, and the other cuts. It was interesting to watch The Private Reels on the DVD as Tom and Ed go around the world and ask random people if they've ever heard of The Chemical Brothers. Some of these people had no clue what they were talking about which was humorous. Most of them on there (teens) knew their older works when they were known as The Dust Brothers, which I can't say too much about because I've never heard any of their older works of music. The interviews are worth a listen as well as they go through all, if not all, the guests that appeared in the songs. You have Tim Burgess (Life Is Sweet), Noel Gallagher (Setting Sun), and I believe Beth Orton (Alive Alone, Where Do I Begin, The State We're In) was in there as well, I'll have to double-check that one. This DVD is one of a kind and will serve all the Chem. fans out there well.

5 out of 5 stars An Extraordinary DVD of music videos.......2004-09-02

I'll start off by saying that I'm a big fan of music video DVDs in general. Chemical Brothers videos are larger than life. Several of these videos zip you away into a sense of peace and tranquility, leaving you amazed. The two stand-out videos have got to be "Star Guitar" and "The Test". I've watched both of these videos several times, and am still astonished every time I watch them.

For the video "Star Guitar", they just shot footage from the side of a train. Everything they pass, whether it be: trees, buildings, bridges, poles, walls... is cut perfectly to the beat, rhythm and melody. That video must have taken forever to make. "The Test" is very simular; with a lot of on-beat video making.

Not only are the videos awesome, but the live concert footage is sweet too; maybe even better than the videos. The light show they put on is just sick. This DVD is must see for... anyone.

5 out of 5 stars Another 5-Star Review.......2004-07-13

I just wanted to add something to all the other 5-star
reviews of this excellent DVD...and that is...how amazing
the live material is. Sure the videos are good, but it's
the live section of this DVD that really (to use a cliche)
blows you away. The live songs are masterpieces of beat-genius,
with each song delivering extremely satisfying build-ups and
climaxes...all are mesmerizing...all have less vocals than the
single versions...all are stretched out with BIG SUB-WOOFER
sound! It almost seems like...if Beethoven and Mozart were alive
today, they'd be these two Chemical Brothers exhibiting their
musical chops to live & raving audiences. So anyway, if you
buy this DVD, I recommend that you go immediately to the live
section. It's truly thrilling.

5 out of 5 stars LONG TIME COMING.......2003-10-16

Chemical Brothers fans have long awaited a video/live dvd from the masters and I would say it's been worth the wait. What an awesomely put together dvd. Even the menus are class. Having been at the red rocks show, I admired how its footage perfectly captures the mayhem that ensued after the blistering opener hey boy, hey girl. And as for the other live bits, they're worth the price of admission alone, especially the Japan footage, simply jaw-dropping. But you also get the promos and interviews which only add to the future classic status of this dvd. Some of the best videos of the last ten years of course line up to show the Chem's might. 'The Test' is an instant classic with amazing visuals, and 'The Golden Path' is a very positive and uplifting piece of genius as a video and track. Excellent DVD.

Now known as George, Linda and Patrick Cheeseman, the Pasquale family is sent to suburban Utah to begin their new life. 4 out of 5 stars I liked it.......2007-07-03

This was a decent LDS film. Much better than some others out there. I would recommend it.

4 out of 5 stars Very funny.......2007-01-13

Although it's funnier when you understand Mormons and their lifestyles, but it is still funny no matter who watches it.

3 out of 5 stars Easy to watch and enjoy but by no means great.......2006-09-14

This movie is a somewhat enjoyable film geared towards members of the LDS faith. It has a few funny moments that and it is pretty well acted (for lower budget movies at least).

The movies premise is about a Mobster who cuts a deal with the FBI (to stay out of jail) and squeels on his mob boss in return for his squeeling he and his family are put into a witness protection program and are sent to live in Provo, Utah.

The movies premise is what it's like for a hard core mobster and his family to live in happy valley.

Like I said this movie does have a few good laughs and the acting is good (for a low budget film).

The problem with the film are as follows:

1 - Too preachy... sometimes the film tries too hard to preach about the LDS faith instead of tell a story

2 - On my DVD copy the sound didn't match the movement on people's lips. I would think that would be something you should check out before you start producing the film!

3 - Just an average good one time watch.... nothing you would want to see over and over again. This would be a good one time rental or library movie.

Decent just not great.

1 out of 5 stars Worst movie I've ever seen. Razzie, anyone?.......2006-09-05

If I could give this no stars, I would! The person from Kearns, UT who thinks this movie would be great for non-mormons, think again! I inadvertantly rented it at the video store, thinking it would be funny. In unbiased hands, it could have been. Skilled writers and actors would have been a plus, too. The acting was awful. The dialogue was stilted. The plot was unbelievable. Apparently the writers have never even watched a TV crime show, let alone done research. This movie played out like it was hastily thrown together by a couple of college kids pulling an all-nighter for film class. Worst of all, the whole thing came across as a thinly-veiled proselytizing tool. It may be A+ entertainment for mormons, but for regular folk like me this was nowhere near the quality one would expect.

5 out of 5 stars Mobsters and Mormons.......2006-05-11

Mobsters and Mormons is by far the best film Halestone Entertainment has ever produced. It is very funny and provides a wonderful message. I think they really hit a homerun with this film. It is a must see! Leaves you feeling very satisfied!

Contrary to their moniker, Gomez isn't a one-man band, but rather a British quintet. Describing their music, however, is no mean feat. Gomez combines jazz, country, blues, and other genres into their own unique mélange. Three vocalists only add to the challenge. Suffice to say, they make it work. The title, Five Men in a Hut, applies to a CD collection (sold separately) and this suitably off-kilter assortment of audio-visual ephemera. The twin releases capture their first seven years, while "Hut" refers to the group's now-defunct record label. Of the 12 promo clips, highlights include "78 Stone Wobble" featuring an ordinary bloke who spends the day upside down, "Whipping Piccadilly" with actor Toby Jones (Infamous) as a businessman with a fear of escalators, and "Silence," a rotoscoped riff on the brightly-hued psychedelia of Yellow Submarine (as befits the Beatlesque melody). Overall, the videos with a storyline work better than those without. A! s for the interview snippets, they deal more with life on the road than the history of the five-piece. The six live numbers, including Smokey Robinson's "The Way You Do the Things You Do," showcase the Brighton-based band in their favorite environment. Aside from Jones, the other notable appearance is provided by legendary bluesman John Lee Hooker, who declares the Mercury Prize-winning combo "very, very good." --Kathleen C. Fennessy

    Customer Reviews:

1 out of 5 stars RIP-OFF!!!! EDITED VERSION OF "SMACK MY BITCH UP" VIDEO!!!!!!.......2006-11-16

Do not buy this DVD if you are expecting the "Smack My Bitch Up" video that was aired only a few times on MTV in the '90s or on MTV2 around 2001 when they had a Controversial Videos countdown. This DVD contains an EDITED version of the video, specifically it is missing a shot of the main character shooting up in a bathroom stall, a shot of the character hitting a pedestrian on the street with a car, and the entire sex scene with the prostitute is toned down. I compared the DVD version with the version that I recorded off of MTV2 and it is DEFINITELY edited.

Why in the world this video would be edited completely escapes me, especially where the DVD cover has a Parental Advisory sticker. But it is misleading the buying public (since I would guess most people would buy this DVD for this infamous video). In any case, I have no idea when the record companies are going to wake up to not selling substandard product, and that contributes more than anything to the bootlegging problem. In any case, send a message to Prodigy, their record company, and whoever else was involved with this mess, buy a bootleg of the video and make sure not a penny goes to Prodigy or their record company. Don't be a sucker like I was and waste your money on this DVD.

    5 out of 5 stars SICK!!!!.......2006-06-30

This has got to be the absolute best DVD for a band EVER!!! Not only do you get all The Prod's video's (even the banned in the US "Smack My [...] Up") but also live concert footage, behind the scenes of their video's production & other goodies. I've got all their albums and most singles already, & I picked up both the best of CD & the DVD, I'm not at all sorry. Worth every penny(though I coulda done without the naked guy running around in the beginning of the live footage... You'll see)the DVD absolutely captures the intensity of the bands raw energy, couldn't ask for a better interpretation. Anyway, don't hesitate if you've ever been a fan of dance music ever, you'll definately love both the CD & DVD.

The bulk of this DVD is the music videos, and they are what it does best. The video and sound quality is superb, and it helps that most of Travis's videos are wonderful, too. Fans will be delighted to have all of the band's videos on one disc. This DVD also includes videos of two songs--"Coming Around" and "Walking in the Sun"--I had never heard on their albums, which was a nice surprise. Other than the core music videos, I most enjoyed the live videos of Travis performing a few of their hits.

The short, documentary-esque making-of vinnettes and throwaway intros to each music video, however, were so short and random that they usually didn't make much sense, and I had no desire to watch them a second time. A few were interesting and relevant, but too many were simply short clips of the band members goofing around on their tour bus. The typical "making-of" extra generally consisted of very short, quick cuts of the video's set edited together, providing little to no insight into the directors' and band's work. Maybe they'll do something for you, but they didn't for me.

This DVD would still be a good value if it only contained Travis's 17 music videos, but luckily it goes a little further than that. And while I didn't consider most of the extras to be of much value, the core content is. "Singles" is probably only a diehard Travis fan's DVD, and in my case, that was just what I wanted.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome Videos !!!.......2004-11-13

I took the risk and bought this DVD although in Amazon's listing appears as a CD (audio). Fortunately I got what I wanted. This is a great DVD with all Travis videos and additional footage. If you want to buy the VIDEOS choose this item regardless of how it apparently seems to be the CD. The CD is also listed under a different ASIN number. I hope the guys from Amazon correct this misleading classification.

4 out of 5 stars Guilty pleasures galore.......2004-11-07

Travis have become a guilty please of mine ever since my sister bought me the man who on a trip back from the UK.

The man who sparkles with heaps of great songs, most of which feature here. There second album invisible band was a hit and miss affair with flowers in the window, caged and sing being the standouts on an otherwise disappointing album. 12 memories is the same a few great songs amongst mediocre album tracks.

What makes this an essential own for travis fans is it puts all those good songs on one disc and leaves the album tracks where they belong. All the songs are hits bar a few wayward songs near the end (all I want to do it rock)

    Highly recommended

3 out of 5 stars Early videos are hideous but the later ones make up ..........2005-08-01

ok so im a verve addict. i can listen to slide away for like 3 hours on repeat no problem, so when i saw this weird ass video for slide away that starts off cool and ends up bezerk, it wasn't hard to figure out why the verve never caight on until their thrid and final album urban hymns. a good band still needs great videos, or at least decent ones for people to want to pay attention. the verve obviously had the tunes from the minute they were formed, they're all classic, but the early videos are totally weird, but not in an interesting cool way, like in a "we're an indie band that ran out of money and ideas" way. and like i said im a huge verve fan, but most of these videos are lunacy. the video for history is like a mini compilation of all those horrible early videos rolled into one. the true value on this album comes from the urban hymns videos, which are remarkable. bittersweet symphony is such a life affirming video where richard ashcroft takes a stroll down a busy street while feeling a bit down. and the way the band joins him at the end to symbolize he isnt the only one who feels this way was so touching. the videos for lucky man and sonnet are gorgeous as well. by the way, if you google the verve and go to their official website, you can see all these videos, well not the early ones from storm in heaven, but trust me thats to your favour there. i would suggest this for anyone who really likes the verve and wants to see this as a refernce point of how they were.

5 out of 5 stars Superb Music, Great Videos!.......2005-02-12

Except for the truly terrible video for "History", this is a great collection of videos, showing why The Verve are contenders for Best Band of the 1990's. They not only had a terrific sound, they had *The Look*. U2 and Oasis just pale next to these guys in both departments. "History" aside, the best videos are from the albums, "A Northern Soul" and "Urban Hymns". They are so good, they make up for the somewhat lesser real early videos. A MUST for fans of The Verve!!

4 out of 5 stars If you area real fan, it's worth it........2005-01-20

A nice keepsake if you are a diehard fan like myself. But... I distinctly remember a different video for "Slide Away" as it was the first time I ever saw or heard of this band. (waaaaay back in 93' on 120 minutes. Does anyone else remember this? Anyway, the video looked alot like the cover of "A storm in heaven" not the borderline campy video on this. But don't other more recent videos make up for that, along with including the rarity "All in the mind." Dang... I wish they were still together and making great music.

2 out of 5 stars great music - terrible videos.......2004-12-26

As a long time fan of The Verve, I was excited the see the release of this DVD, and it immediately went on my Christmas list. Now that I have it, I am very disappointed. Never having seen videos for many of the early Verve singles, I had high hopes, but many of these videos should never have seen the light of day. Cheap effects, and home movie quality are par for the course on much of the this DVD.
One particularly jarring example was the video for "Slide Away" from A Storm in Heaven, one of my favorites. Like seeing a terrible movie version of your favorite book, I now fear that I may forever have terrible grainy images of the band frolicking with. . .I'll spare you.
Later videos are of better quality technically, but it would seem that it was really not until Urban Hymns that the visuals could hold their own with the music. Too bad.
A MUCH better bet is the the Verve 96-98 video. As far as I know, only available on VHS. Live concert footage, fantastic videography, a few videos that also appear here, plus the backstage/tourbus stuff. The Verve 96-98 is on a level with Radiohead's "Making Friends is Easy" movie. This recent release is much too much rubbish. COME ON GUYS! COME ON! COME ON!
