A young boy named Owen learns the startling truth about dogs: They're actually from outer space, sent here to rule mankind. A canine agent from the star Sirius (voiced by Matthew Broderick) gets rescued from the pound by Owen (Liam Aiken) and named Hubble. As Hubble desperately tries to train a motley crew of dogs from Owen's neighborhood to behave like conquerors before the Greater Dane arrives and decides the planet's fate, the outer space pooch slowly bonds with Owen and discovers why dogs may have joined forces with humans instead of dominating them. Good Boy! will charm dog lovers in particular, but the movie has enough clever touches to engage most viewers, and it manages a sweet tone without turning cloyingly saccharine. Featuring the voices of Carl Reiner, Brittany Murphy, Delta Burke, Donald Faison, and--of all people--Vanessa Redgrave as the Greater Dane. --Bret Fetzer

Customer Reviews:
Great when you're short on time.......2007-06-04
I really like this workout. It's especially nice when you you're short on time or want to add-on to your cardio. Minna gives great cues and has some nice twists on old moves....and a few new ones that make this workout fun.
The Greatest DVD ever.......2007-05-30
I saw Minna Lessig on TV promoting this DVD, and after watching a few of the exercises, I decided to try it. I have tried many DVDs like pilates and taebo, and this was by far the best and most fun. You can do arms one day, abs the next, followed by bottom, or you can do a whole body workout. I like it because I can do a whole body workout followed by just abs or any combination that I feel is right for the day. She is also very motivating through the whole workout. The whole body workout is only 15 minutes long, but I was sweating by the end!!I would recommend this DVD to anyone who doesn't want to work out at a gym.
Another solid workout.......2007-05-20
This is my 4th dvd featuring Minna Lessig. I think she plans very balanced programs that hit all of the areas. This dvd has sections for arms & shoulders, abs, and glutes plus an additional 15 minutes segment for total body conditioning. All segments are challenging and include some moves that are new to me. You need two sets of weights (light & heavy) and a mat. I've been working out regularly for a while, so I used 5 and 8 pound weights. If you are just starting out, go lighter.
Minna demonstrates moves well and is very encouraging - never annoying. This dvd will be a regular in the rotation for quite a while.
overall body sculpting.......2007-04-25
This is a fun fast paced, intermediate body toning and sculpting video. The moves can be challenging, but once you get the hang of it your good to go. The instructor shows you the move first, and then you follow along with her. She does different moves to work the same body part in different ways. This keeps the work out fun and interesting. The music is great. You will love this toning workout. I built up a lot of sweat just doing the sculpting routines and I bet you will too. This is a keeper. You can also turn of the speaking and just do the workout or create your own workout to the music only.
Excellent workout.......2007-04-21
I bought this dvd 2 weeks ago and have done it 3 times now and really enjoy it. I was also very sore which, of course, is a good thing. Minna knows how to make working out fun. She does a very good job hitting every body part. In my opinion, an excellent workout for intermediates. I never dread doing this workout because Minna makes it fun. Often, I don't work out because I dread it, but this one is fun.

doesn't deserve the reputation it's received..........2007-04-04
THE BLACK CAULDRON has continually been dismissed by Disney enthusiasts and moviegoers since it was originally released in 1985. It was definitely one of the more ambitious animated projects undertaken by the studio. Ten years in the making, it was also the most expensive project since 1940's "Pinocchio" and the first 70mm widescreen movie since "Sleeping Beauty" in 1959. In THE BLACK CAULDRON, Disney attempted to cram Lloyd Alexander's densely-written "Prydain Chronicles" books into one movie, and the result was hardly a hit, but it's not a flop, either.
Taran (voiced by Grant Bardsley) is a dreamer, looking to find his place in the adventurous world beyond the cottage of his master, Dallben (Freddie Jones). Taran spends his days tending to a mystical clairvoyant pig called Hen Wen. The life of Hen Wen hangs in the balance when the evil Horned King (John Hurt) decides to use her powers to find the location of the Black Cauldron, where all the evil forces of the world are kept. Hen Wen is spirited away to the Horned King's castle with Taran in hot pursuit. Once at the castle, Taran teams with young Princess Eilonwy (Susan Sheridan), eccentric musician Fflewddur (Nigel Hawthorne), and a cute little furry creature called Gurgi (John Byner). Their only hope lies in finding the Black Cauldron before it's evil powers fall into the wrong hands...
This is not your usual Disney fare. It's very dark, there are no musical numbers, no real "happily ever after" ending, and the overall tone of the piece does not sit well with the previous Disney animated movies. I believe the animators were trying to capture a feeling and mood that had been earlier established in other animated films of the period (Don Bluth's "The Secret of NIMH" and Ralph Bakshi's "Lord of the Rings" immediately spring to mind). Elmer Bernstein's music perfectly underscores every mood.
THE BLACK CAULDRON is a thrilling medieval adventure, and will appeal to those with a taste for that. Disney purists are sadly always going to have a problem with it, but hopefully it will be appreciated for what it is.
The DVD includes a set-top game called "Quest for the Black Cauldron"; the vintage Donald Duck cartoon "Trick or Treat"; still galleries, and the trailer.
Sort of a let down.......2007-03-09
I'm a big fan of Disney movies and when I heard this one was for sale, I had to see it - the rumors of the forgotten/hidden/canned Disney film, maybe because of that infamous PG rating, were far too tempting. It turns out, there are some scary images (the Horned King is not exactly the prettiest burning eyed skull you've ever seen), but that's cool. Now I understand the rating. But the story line leaves a lot to be desired. I can't say how close the movie followed the books by Lloyd Alexander (despite being an avid reader as a kid, I somehow missed this series), but as a film, there didn't seem to be a good reason for any of the characters' actions. The first scene was pretty dull and from there it just got weird. You never really get a good sense of the world around the characters (it's like extras were at a premium, and yes, it's animated). When the princess appeared pretty much out of nowhere, I found her moderately annoying and pointless. Our hero, Taran, had so many wacky sidekicks that none of them really had the chance to be developed. And the ending is strangely unsatisfying.
Pros: the pig is really cute. Cons: everything else. I would recommend The Sword in the Stone over this one for a tale of a boy and his sword, but if you really want to see it, borrow it or rent it. It's probably not one you'll want to keep.
Disney could of done better...........2007-02-27
Okay, I made that mistake and read the Prydain Chronicles before actually seeing this movie. Honestly I didn't think Disney did a good job on this film. Characters were left out and I didn't like how they merged "The Book of Three" and the "Black Cauldron" together. They changed some of the events a bit which didn't make sense to me and the movie seemed rushed, especially when it came to finding the black cauldron. I think this film would of done better as a live action movie, such as Disney's sucsessful "Narnia". And it could have been done in parts, since the Prydain Chronicles by Lloyd Alexandre consists of 5 books. 6 including "The foundling". Another thing I didn't like was that the movie was too dark, too scary for children to enjoy.
I think I would of enjoyed the film more if I have never read the books. XD
I wish Disney would release an Un-Cut/Remastered version of this..........2007-02-15
I saw this when I was a kid and loved it because it wasn't your typical Disney flick; it was dark and it didn't have any stupid musical numbers. Now that I'm older, I still believe that this is a cool flick, but after doing some investigation on Wikipedia I found out that this movie has a lot of scenes cut out because it wasn't Kosher for children. Also, this version is not anamorphic or re-mastered. Disney may see this as a stain in their career, but there are many people who would love to see this movie uncut and cleaned up. I'm pretty sure that Disney will bury this gem again, so I would snatch it up before they lock it up in the vaults forever.
If you enjoy disney classics.......2007-01-12
When I bought this item I did it in the soul purpose for my daudhter. Since she likes just about every stinking Disney movie out there...now I must remember she is 5. When we all sat down to watch the movie she lost intrest in 5-10 mins, I guess because the story line wasn't appealing to her, or the picture wasn't as sharp looking as the new movies. All I know she said "mommy this is boring." As an adult I find it a must to have if you collect Disney movies. I will admit this movie was very hard for me to find and I was surprized I found it on Amazon.

You Got Served has one simple priority, and if you're into the latest hip-hop dance moves, you'll get served an enjoyable 93-minute diversion. For anyone else, however, all bets are off, since this wretchedly plotted film was written by director Christopher B. Stokes as a crassly commercial vehicle for B2K, the teen group that Stokes managed while making cheap-ass movies like this one. There's a tissue-thin romantic subplot, but mostly it's about the MTV-styled showdown between B2K (as Orange County white boys) and their black L.A. competitors, including members of the hip-hop group IMx. Their aggressive moves are undeniably impressive (in other words, don't try this at home unless you know a good chiropractor), but Stokes would've been better off making a straight documentary, thus avoiding all the nonsense that You Got Served delivers between its abundance of choppily edited dance scenes. --Jeff Shannon
Customer Reviews:
For the KIDS.......2007-04-26
I am laughing at the reviews that are present. I am a mother of three and no I did not go see You Got Served when it was at the movies nor did I rent it for MYSELF. But for my kids I did. When I was younger we had movies that we thought were the best thing since sliced bread and here this movie comes along, clearly intended for teenagers to enjoy and there are a bunch of adults trashing it.
I saw no harm in the movie so called plots, the frequent unlimited dance moves or anything at all simply because the movie was not targeted towards my generations. When New Jack City came out, my parents didn't want to watch THAT!
Over all, for the kids, I think that movie proved its point. It had the hot guys in there that the teenage girls love and the beautiful girls in there that the teenage boys loved mixed together with some dance moves that only THEY can do... priceless!
Tight........2007-04-21
A lot of people gave this movie a low rating because they said it lacked plot.
I watch movies for entertainment. I read books for deep plots.
I'm a street dancer myself from the dirty south reppin TN.
And although this movie is several years old and the current
moves we do are updated.... still its a cool look back to the past.
They could have added more dancing and kicked up the effects a bit more, but it was slammin.
Plus Meaghan Good and Lil Kim were kinda sexy.
to the low raters, quit being haters.
Leaves one with lots of questions.......2007-02-26
I have just finished viewing this movie and I must say I was left with a number of questions, but first, I must tell you, someone in my hometown had rented the movie and kept it so the movie store had to order another copy so naturally i thought that the movie would be good. In the meanwhile, it seemed like throughout the movie, the young men were trying out for basketball playoffs. I mean, in the beginning the movie started off with two rival teams in Los Angeles at Steve Harvey's dance studio or WAREHOUSE as they refered to it as Rad's in the movie. You get a feeling that Steve's character wanted to reach out to the boys in some sort of way. He was giving them advice and hard discipline, but then the story just doesnt add up. I am confused if the girl Jennifer Freeman's character was really Marques Houston's sister, because when we first see her in the movie, she is talking with her mom, who is played by Jackee, who is supposed to be Marques Houston's mother as well, but when Marques is jumped by thugs who take his merchandise, no one comes to the hospital to see him but his boys, not even his grandmother or mother, only his sister and then you only see his mother and grandmother together again at the end of the movie when they are competing at the dance tryout for $50,000. Also, what is with the rain scene. The boys are always on the basketball court between their dance routines, but you never hear about them going to school, is the movie set in the summer time? Then we see Marques and his sister set against the backdrop of a South Central L.A. neighborhood as we see in other movies that have black youth, struggling to make it in the streets. I think the only real product of this movie was Beautiful, played by Meagan Good and that is because she is so confident and her character will not allow anyone to disrespect or degrade her. She tells Omarion or David, "you have to ask us to your car like ladies, we are ladies" when he comes to pick them up from work. The grandmother has somewhat of an influence on Marques' character, but the only real reason to watch the movie is for the dancing. It is no "Stomp the Yard" by any means, because there is no story line. Its more of a zig zag criss cross type of storyline. I think that if they had've let Marques character get more instruction from Steve's character in the movie, the movie would've had more direction, and then they wait till the last minute to put Lil kim in the movie and she didnt even judge the dance contest fairly until Steve Harvey said, "you got to take it to the streets, this is to important to them boys." I think it was a ploy to lure more age 11-17 year olds into the movies.
Oh god, was this bad or what..........2006-11-30
This movie was so bad that I'm not sure I even want to waste my time with a review, but alas, I must say SOMETHING. Plot is horrible, just plain horrible. I'm embarassed for the cast, although it's not like they'll put out any better movies themselves, but still, this is beyond horrid. I will say that I love Meagan Good, mostly because she's hot, but in 'Brick' she showed promise for maybe she'll mature into a better actress as the years press on. Other than the horrid plot there is some MTV dancing that is really the only reason to watch this film, and the dancing is pretty cool, but a movie like 'Honey' has the same dancing but a slightly better plot so I'd say skip this drivel and watch something else, like a music video, at least thats over in five minutes!
Poor.......2006-08-08
Frankly, I do not know why I decided to watch this. The most abysmal factor about this film is the direction. I would estimate this to be a MTV film and nothing stellar. The acting is garbage and the plot has been done (ex. Bring It On).
There is nothing much to say about this film. It has that lackluster 'bring it' vibe that turns me off. I cringed throughout and nearly cried from embarassment. Not to mention the genre itself is outdatted. The film also has a negative implication, stating that kids at the age of 15 are involed in drug deals and will have to put their talent to use in order to get money - a timeless stereotype.
One of the worst films you'll see, simply put. Avoid this.

In this classic 1963 adaptation of William Golding's novel, a planeload of schoolboys is stranded on a tropical island. They've got food and water; all that's left is to peacefully govern themselves until they're rescued. "After all," says choir leader Jack, "We're English. We're the best in the world at everything!" Unfortunately, living peacefully is not as easy as it seems. Though Ralph is named chief, Jack and the choristers quickly form a clique of their own, using the ever-effective political promise of fun rather than responsibility to draw converts. Director Peter Brook draws some excellent performances out of his young cast; the moment when Ralph realizes that even if he blows the conch for a meeting people might not come is an excruciating one. Well acted and faithfully executed, Lord of the Flies is as compelling today as when first released. --Ali Davis
Description
Lord of the Flies is famed theater director Peter Brook's daring translation of William Golding's brilliant novel. The story of 30 English schoolboys stranded on an uncharted island at the start of the "next" war, Lord of the Flies is a seminal film of the New American Cinema and a fascinating anti-Hollywood experiment in location filmmaking. As the cast relived Golding's frightening fable, Brook found the cinematic "evidence" of the author's terrifying thesis: there is a beast in us all.
Customer Reviews:
Blah........2007-05-01
The point, I think, of making a novel into a movie is to take the text and replace it with a visual. In this case, and in most cases, all the awesome good bits of the text are butchered in the name of artisitc license. Well "boo" to that! I cringe when my students ask to see the movie after we read the book, because it's just not the same. Where's the part with Simon and the head? And what's the deal with the parachutist? Those are important elements of the text that are either glossed over, mangled, or removed completely. I object to such tinkering with greatness! The merit in such films is only to encourage students to write reviews or to compare/contrast. Any other use, such as a substitution for the text, is not reccomended. Rhetorical question: Why don't film makers create a real version of the text? Enough said. Just read the book.
Fly No Further.......2007-01-19
If you are looking for the definitive theatrical version of "Lord of the Flies", here it is. All essential thematic elements are included without laboring over miscellaneous detail. Sure, it could be longer to include every detail from the novel, but it loses nothing at its current length. I found it very useful as a follow up to classroom study, and my students adjusted well to the black and white presentation. You know it hits the mark when you need to pass out Kleenex, after Simon and Piggy's deaths, to a jaded bunch of ninth graders. Worth the investment!!
One of a Kind, a True Classic.......2006-07-17
"We're Englishmen, and the English do everything right!" one of the choirboys says soon after finding themselves on the island. From then on, it's a steady degeneration into savagery. I saw Lord of the Flies (and read the Golding novel) when it first came out in the '60's, and it keeps getting better everytime I see it. There are just so many memorable images: "Piggy", the nerdy kid with the shattered glasses lens; flies buzzing around the hog's head impaled on a stick; the "Beast", etc. This is great story telling, and the kids' characters are so well delineated. Low budget and filmed entirely on location, the camera crew had to be very resourceful in overcoming obstactles. (Speaking of budgets... Criterion Editions does great work, but there's no reason to charge 40 bucks for this DVD. The transfer is excellent, but it's no better than an earlier issue on videotape put out by another outfit.) In special features, the filmakers discuss how they discovered an ingenious use of the zoom lens, a relatively new gadget at that time. (The effect is not the cheesy zoom in/zoom outs used ad nauseum on '70's TV shows.) An "indie" film of sorts, Lord of the Flies was filmed in black and white, but then, so were classics like On the Waterfront, To Kill a Mocking Bird and The Haunting. Technicolor film was very expensive, and you didn't want to leave too much of it on the cutting room floor. The '90's version is OK, but I think the film makers erred in making the kids military school students. The seed of violence has already been planted, and it's not so far a leap to savagery.
The Power of the Conch.......2006-07-07
We were handed paperback copies of Sir William Golding's novel in my seventh grade class back in 1973, and it was not until three years later when I saw the 1963 movie. The plot was about thirty or so British schoolboys, ages 6 to 13, whose plane crashes in the South Pacific Ocean and were the only survivors. They came ashore on a small uncharted, uninhabited tropical island where survival and the hopes of being rescued took precedence. While the pilot perished in the crash, there were no other adults and the boys were left to fend for themselves.
The task was left to two of the oldest boys, Ralph and Jack. Ralph did his best to keep order with the younger boys where survival was the key by building shelters and gathering food. They would also build a fire as a signal to alert any passing ship or plane. While exploring the island and walking along the surf, Ralph and a fat, nearsighted boy, suffering from asthma, named Piggy stumbled upon a conch washed up on the shore. To Ralph the conch was an important symbol that whoever held onto it had the power to speak.
During their isolation on the island, the boys managed to get along until Jack, a choirboy who initially proclaimed that the British people were the most civilized on earth, wanted to have fun and hunt since the island was inhabited by wild pigs. This led to a falling out between him and Ralph, and two separate factions ensued. Jack's group were mainly other choirboys who split away from the main group, settling on one part of the island where they would engage in savagery with painted faces and long hair. Aside from Piggy, Ralph's group included a boy named Simon, two twins named Sam'n'Eric and some of the smaller boys that were called "littleuns".
The longer the two groups remained, hostilities between them grew more and more.
Since no adults were present, one fear they faced was that of "the Beast". Jack's group was determined to hunt down the beast, and the nightly rituals was dancing around the fire and chanting, "Kill the beast! Cut his throat! Spill his blood!"
The trauma was that of a weak Simon who happened to stumble upon one of these rituals and was killed by Jack's group. His bloodied body thrown into the sea. The traumas continued as Jack's attention turned toward Ralph's group. The need for Piggy's spectacles to start fires was one thing and finishing off Ralph was another. Piggy would later be killed by a boulder falling on top of him and the conch smashed into worthless pieces. Sam'n'Eric would be apprehended and forced into Jack's group. This led to the littleuns abandoning Ralph as well.
Ralph, now alone, was in fear for his own life. Jack's goal now was to hunt him down and kill him, even if it meant smoking him out by burning the entire island. While Jack and his group were in pursuit, Ralph ran as fast as he could until he stumbled on the beach and would look up at a naval officer who happened to come ashore with a rescue party.
The plot in the film came very close to that of the novel. There was a remake of "Lord of the Flies" in 1990 that, to me, did not make any impression. The plot was altered where American boys from a military school faced similar situations. As for the 1963 film, I find it a classic not one worth missing.
Don't Let the Pig Speak to You! Unnoticed cinematography!.......2006-06-05
This film is truly a masterpiece! Unless you're so up on your research, or unless you watched the extra stuff on the DVD, you'd have no idea that it was probably the first big picture which used a zoom lens! Many of the camera shots were extremely complicated since the producers had to invent and tinker around until they could make temporary dolly mechanisms with proper tracks that worked for their sets in Puerto Rico. Dialogue had to be done separately almost every time sinc eethe soun of the sea was so loud and since our video technolgoy was not so advanced. (I don't know of advanced technology can even block the sound of the sea out.) Long, hot hours for all 1st time actors and film people- most people involved in the film didn't realize at the time that the film was risky- limited time slot- all the students hasd to miss 1 month of school, not a day more, and summer vacation.
Another interesting factoid is that this film for the Premier release had the sound all backwards, and it was fixed and played correctly all on time in 1.5 hours. A police escort was provided to have the reel shipped to a UK theater.
The DVD has a "movie version" where Golding himself reads an abridged version of his book while the entire movie plays. There's also another "movie version" where directors and other staff make various comments on the movie. Listening to the readings is probably good enough for "cliff notes" though I would not recommend ever readign only the cliff notes or just watching the video. The book is too good to just read the cliff notes only, and that accentuates the video only more. One thing to noe though is that Golding's readings do not always match up with what is being shown in the movie itself.
In this original version, the pig does not talk because they had to remove many scenes. Most of the scenes removed were due to the film being too long, but the pig talking portion may've been removed because it may have been too hard for people to handle at the time. Even now, the movie's content is questionable for a rating because it's young male children living as savages, and sometimes there are captures with very little clothes. You never see the front when someone is totally undressed, but there may be a quick flash or two or things that you can't really see distinctly. This movie is definitely NOT sexual, but if you are looking for a clean, pure movie, non-realistic movie, or if you are vegetarian, this is probably not a good movie for you to watch.
This version of the movie is very different than the 1990 version, as 1990 is in color, and this version is more raw and more real like Survivor minus all the hype and silliness. I don't remember if Piggy's real name is even mentioned in the book or the 1990 version, but it's definitely not in this version. Most people would say this version is critically much better than the 1990 version as the 1990 version strips away the fact that about half of the boys are from a choir school. American actors will tend to act different than actors from various countries with a UK background, and since the book was written from a UK perspective, in this sense, the 1990 movie loses that degree of originality from the book. There have been other "versions" of the movie, and one mentioned in the extra stuff on this DVD that was so offkilter that they wouldn't even name it "Lord of the Flies." This particular version mentioned even had girls in it and a very happy ending. This is a movie of true value, substance, and realism.

Good for all ages!.......2007-01-11
I struggle to find movies that will entertain both of my daughters (ages 2 and 8) This one fits the bill. My kids are animal lovers so anything with talking animals is a big hit. They watch this movie in our van over and over! It's not a blockbuster but it's great for kids.
Good Boy!.......2006-07-18
As a long time dog owner (and ownee) I really enjoyed this movie. It is family oriented, very warm and has a wonderful ending. In between I loved how the personalities of the various dogs were portrayed. I happen to be partial to poodles but I liked the boxer best. Would definitely recommend for light viewing.
Good Boy.......2006-06-21
I loved this movie! It was great! My favorite part was when Owen and his family were picking out the dog at the pound.Hubble(the dog)was so cute and adorable.he looked like Rasheen.
A most delighful movie for Everyone.......2006-03-04
I possibly watched hundreds of movies, and this one is surely one of the most delighful movies I have ever seen. I watched it with my dog Sultan, and he loved it as much as I did. The story is interesting and amuzing, the characters simply adorable. It touches your Heart, pleases your senses, and relaxes your mind. Could you ask for more? I would recommend this movie to everyone of all ages. You could see it again and again and it won't tire on you because there is Real Joy at its core. It aims to share this Joy with you, and it couldn't do a better job. Bravo!!!
Very good movie........2006-01-21
Good Boy: Starring Kevin Nealon, Liam Aiken, and Molly Shannon. Animal voices by: Cheech Marin, Matthew Broderick, Delta Burke, Donald Faison, Brittany Murphy, Vanessa Redgrave, and Carl Reiner.
This movie seemed to me like a cross between: Air Bud, E.T., and Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey. Granted, there were a few scenes where I said "Yeah right!" but overall, it is a warm, heartfelt movie that can be enjoyed by anyone who is willing to suspend disbelief. If you are the type that looks at movies from a critical point of view (i.e. Dogs don't talk; dogs can't jump that high, dogs can't fly, etc.) then no, you probably WON'T enjoy this movie. I know, and most other people also know that dogs don't speak English; but I was still able to enjoy the movie. And to those who watch with a "Critical eye," you complain about stuff being "Far Fetched;" no pun intended for this movie. So, I'm guessing you mainly just watch movies about stuff that actually happened, or could actually happen. If you go to rent this movie, read the back of the box first, and if you can't stand the thought of a movie with talking dogs, don't rent this movie, and don't rent Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey, or Homeward Bound: Lost In San Francisco. You'll be very upset with yourself. To the rest of us, sit back, relax, watch a movie, and just enjoy it for what it is. Nevermind that it's not entirely based in reality. If you are one of those people that only enjoy reality based stuff with no acting, go get yourself a few documentaries at the library. If you want a movie with some acting that has a basis in reality, get yourself a movie like Pearl Harbor.

When the 2-inch-tall Tom Thumb arrives at a childless couple's door, it seems like the perfect family has been created. But a chance meeting with a pair of devious robbers soon has Tom acting as an unwitting accomplice in a robbery, thereby threatening his family's happiness. Only Tom (Russ Tamblyn of West Side Story) and his friend Woody (Alan Young) can prove the innocence of Tom's parents and bring the robbers to justice. This 1958 presentation of the classic Brothers Grimm fairytale won an Oscar
® for its innovative special effects. Timeless scenes include the famous dancing shoes and the painted boy who peels himself off of a pad of paper to dance around the room. Peggy Lee and Fred Spielman provide a wealth of catchy songs that have Tamblyn, Young, and Peter Sellers singing, dancing, and performing impressive gymnastic feats. This fanciful tale will appeal to the entire family. --Tami Horiuchi

Tom Thumb.......2006-06-27
This is a really nice family movie. Highly recommend for young children. My family and myself fully enjoyed it.
remembering.......2006-03-03
This is a cute movie to rmemember you saw and liked when the baby bommers were kids. Alot of the actors from the 50's and 60's are in this. A cute fairy tale movie.
Enchanting movie!!! Kids love it,and adults too!!!.......2006-02-27
I saw this movie as a 2 year old, and I never really understood it, until now the digitally remastered edition features subtitles as well as clear finished product of the old classic fairytale.
Jonathan and Anna are simple honest people living in the forest, one day a fairy grants them a child. Tom Thumb as he is called, is a naughty but good boy who likes to play with his toys as soon as the grown ups are away. The toys come alive in a way never seen before! This is without the implementation of computer generated images, just great manipulation and excellent directing. I give this movie 5 stars!!!
Fun Family Film.......2005-10-26
Though I wouldn't rank this as a classic family film I would allow that "tom thumb" is impervious to criticism. Almost 50 years old the entertainment value here is timeless. In this day of CGI director George Pal's visual flair especially his utilization of Puppetoons still impress. Russ Tamblyn as Tom is an infectiously energetic marvel. Good light comic villainous turns contributed here by the legendary British comics Terry-Thomas and Peter Sellers. If you were to pop this one into the DVD player I think you'll be able to keep the kids occupied for 90 minutes.
Tom Thumb.......2005-09-30
my two grand sons ages 9 and 12 who i bought it for both enjoyed it.

Though well short of the classics he would go on to make with Budd Boetticher (Seven Men from Now, The Tall T, et al.), Man in the Saddle is measurably superior to most of Randolph Scott's other '50s Westerns. The script has enough characters, criss-crossed revenge subplots, and tortuous romances for a miniseries; yet somehow, within a B-movie running time, director André De Toth manages to give all of them enough attention so that the movie makes sense, even threatens to get really interesting. He also finds distinctive ways to stage standard set pieces like, say, a saloon shootout. And there's a cumulatively amazing fistfight that starts in a mountain cabin, totally uses up that set, then spills downhill through snowfield and waterfall. Randy's character is a more complicated fellow than usual, and the Scots-Canadian actor Alexander Knox, best known for his Oscar®-nominated turn as Woodrow Wilson, makes a creepily compelling range baron. --Richard T. Jameson
Description
In MAN IN THE SADDLE we see Randolph Scott in an archetypal role as Owen Merritt, a man of few words, unerring aim and unbreakable principles, who swallows his pride when the woman he loves marries for wealth. But when her wildly jealous husband vows to ruin Merritt's ranch, Merritt strikes back. A satisfying combination of action, romance, and breathtaking high-desert scenery, MAN IN THE SADDLE also features Tennessee Ernie Ford in a rare movie appearance.

"Man in the Saddle (1951) ... Randolph Scott ... Columbia Pictures Classic Westerns".......2007-04-08
Columbia Pictures presents "MAN IN THE SADDLE" (1951) (87 mins/Color) (Dolby digitally remastered) --- Starring Randolph Scott, Joan Leslie, Ellen Drew, Alexander Knox & John Russell. --- Directed by André De Toth and released in December 2, 1951, our story line and film, A rancher is forced to stand by as his girl friend is lured away by a wealthy neighboring rancher. When the neighbor is killed, Scott is accused of the murder, and must clear himself. After a blood-spattered fistfight with a gunslinger and several gun battles, Scott consoles himself with schoolteacher Ellen Drew. Based on a novel by Ernest Haycox, Man in the Saddle was the first of the lucrative collaborations between star Randolph Scott and producer Harry Joe Brown --- some of the stand outs of the film: seeing "Tennessee" Ernie Ford without a mustache singing "Man in the Saddle"; Alfonso Bedoya's too brief scenes as a cook; the color photography of the high country, and the fight scene there with John Russell --- Randy Scott's a 'peaceable man' in the tradition of Wild Bill Elliott, but don't provoke him you'll soon see the other side of the coin --- It becomes an open war after Richard Rober kills brothers Camerone Mitchell and Richard Crane who work for Scott, then everything breaks loose.
Under André De Toth (Director), Harry Joe Brown (Producer), Kenneth Gamet (Screenwriter), Ernest Haycox (Book Author), Charles Lawton (Cinematographer), George Duning (Composer (Music Score), Charles Nelson (Editor), George Brooks (Art Director) - - - - the cast includes Randolph Scott (Owen Merritt), Joan Leslie (Laure Bidwell), Ellen Drew (Nan Melotte), Alexander Knox (Will Isham), Richard Rober (Fay Dutcher), John Russell (Hugh Clagg), Guinn "Big Boy" Williams (Bourke Prine), Alfonso Bedoya (Cultus Charley), Clem Bevans (Pay Lankershim), Cameron Mitchell (George Virk), Richard Crane (Juke Virk), Frank Sully (Lee Repp), George Lloyd (Tom Croker), Frank S. Hagney (Ned Bale), Don Beddoe (Love Bidwell), Grant Withers, Tennessee Ernie Ford, James Kirkwood (Sheriff Medary) - - - - Randy Scott had a quiet gentleman nature about him which is not seen in the films of today ... Randy took his job and his responsibility to his audience very seriously ,,, would not settle for anything less than his best ... same was true in his personal life.
SPECIAL FEATURES BIOS:
1. Randolph Scott (aka: George Randolph Scott)
Date of birth: 23 January 1898 - Orange County, Virginia
Date of death: 2 March 1987 - Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, California
Special footnote, George Randolph Scott better known as Randolph Scott, was an American film actor whose career spanned the sound era from the late 1920s to the early 1960s ... his popularity grew in the 1940s and 1950s, appearing in such films as "Gung Ho"! (1943) and "Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm" (1938); but he was especially famous for his numerous Westerns including "Virginia City" (1940) with Errol Flynn and Humphrey Bogart, "Western Union" (1941) with Robert Young and "Ride the High Country" (1962) with Joel McCrea (a coin was flipped to see whether Scott or McCrea would receive top billing, and Scott won despite having a slightly smaller role) ... his long fistfight with John Wayne in "The Spoilers" (1942) was frequently cited by critics and the press as the most thrilling ever filmed; they were fighting over Marlene Dietrich ... another smash hit film together that same year called "Pittsburgh" (1942) once again with Dietrich, Scott and Wayne --- Daniel Webster defines "Legend", as being a notable person, or the stories told about that person exploits --- well by the time Randolph Scott made his best films he had long established himself as a legend in the film industry --- they say practice makes perfect, if that is true by 1958 at 60 years of age he was the master with these oaters from the 50s ... "The Cariboo Trail" (1950), "The Nevadan" (1950), "Colt .45" (1950), "Santa Fe" (1951), "Sugarfoot" (1951), "Fort Worth" (1951), "Man in the Saddle" (1951), "Carson City" (1952), "The Man Behind the Gun" (1952), "Hangman's Knot" (1952), "Thunder over the Plains" (1953), "The Stranger Wore a Gun" (1953), "Ten Wanted Men" (1954), "Riding Shotgun" (1954), "The Bounty Hunter" (1954), "Rage at Dawn" (1955), "Tall Man Riding" (1955), "A Lawless Street" (1955), "Seven Men from Now" (1956), "Seventh Cavalry" (1956), "Decision at Sundown: (1957), "Shoot-Out at Medicine Bend" (1957), "The Tall T" (1957), "Buchanan Rides Alone" (1958), "Ride Lonesome" (1959), "Westbound" (1959), "Comanche Station" (1960) --- Scott's age seemed to matter little, they only came to see another Randolph Scott film and always got their money's worth --- Scott's films were good and getting better becoming classics --- so if you wonder "What Ever Happened To Randolph Scott", just rent or purchase one of his films and you'll see he's never left us.

All action colorful Randolph Scott western from 1951.......2007-01-04
MAN IN THE SADDLE was the first of six westerns that Hungarian director Andre de Toth made with veteran western star Randolph Scott. No quite up to Scott's later collaboration with Bud Boetticher, which commenced in 1956 with the marvellous SEVEN MEN FROM NOW. Nevertheless, MAN IN THE SADDLE is a very worthy contribution to the genre. This film also marked the first teaming of producer Harry Joe Brown, with Randolph Scott as associate producer and was known as a SCOTT-BROWN PRODUCTION.
The story was from a novel of the same name by Ernest Haycox. Owen Merritt (Scott) had lost his sweetheart Laurie (Joan Leslie) to local cattle baron Will Isham (Alexander Knox) Isham tries to buy out all the local ranchers by fair means or foul. Merritt resists being drawn into a fight for Laurie or over Isham's land grabbing venture fearing that it will be taken for sour grapes. Plenty of action on the way to the final showdown with Scott assisted by his ranch hands and close-neighbour Nan Melotte (Ellen Drew). The film is memorable for its wonderful night-time photography and a marvellous extended fight in a mountain shack between Merritt and Hugh Clagg (John Russell), which really did "bring the house down". Tennessee Ernie Ford makes a brief appearance and sings the title song. High quality transfer to DVD
Man in the Saddle 1951.......2006-04-11
In MAN IN THE SADDLE we see Randolph Scott (1898-1987) in a archetypal role as Owen Merritt , a man of few words , inerring aim and unbreakable principes , who swallow his pride when the woman he loves marries for wealth . But when her wildly jealous husband vows to ruin Merritts Ranch , Merritt strikes back . A Satisfying combination of action , Romance and breathtaking high-desert scenery , MAN IN THE SADDLE also featured Tennesse Ernie Ford (1919-1991) in a rare movie appearance . Great plot and wonderful outdore scenery and Randolph Scott..what more do you need ! . High Qualty digital transfer . Recommended
It's a Randolph Scott film...............2005-10-14
...what more do you need? Scott does what he does best in this above average western made with high production values and a touch of angst. Good classic supporting cast and good locations as well as excellent direction make this oater stand alone and stand out in Scott's film's from the 50's.Good,clear DVD issue make this a must.
Better Randy Scott Western.......2005-08-14
MAN IN THE SADDLE (1951) is a very fine little Western, directed by the underrated director Andre De Toth, with a fine screenplay written by Kenneth Gamet. Despite the formulaic story line, the film never drags or dawdles. Randy Scott illustrates, once again, all the fine acting characteristics that made him one of the top ranking "Western" actors of all time. Alexander Knox, an interesting choice for the villain, adds much to the story. Other members of the cast, including Alfonso Bedoya and John Russell, round out this solid oater, well worth investigating. Finally, the title song is sung by none other than "Tennessee Ernie Ford," and remains in the memory long after the movie's images are gone....

Customer Reviews:
Rare Gypsy Rose Lee outing.......2004-12-30
Not too many people know that Gypsy Rose Lee, who virtually invented modern striptease, also essayed a career as an actress; "Belle of the Yukon" is one of the few examples. It's a pleasant, if middling, Western comedy where you can also see Dinah Shore, another personality known for her achievements in other fields than the silver screen. Gypsy Rose doesn't strip, which may disappoint some people.
failed effort.......2003-12-29
The reason to see this is because of Gyspy Rose Lee. It's amazing. Ethel Merman looked like her mother. But she doesn't do a strip tease here. Wasn't that was she was famous for. The costumes on Gyspy are fabulous but not Dinah's. Dinah Shore said she was ashamed of her movies and I can see why. Her hair is dyed an unfitting red here too. The only highlight is when she sings Sleighride in July.
The plot handsome Randolph Scott is a man with a past but he decides to change his ways and starts a bank. Not too memorable.
Great chance to see Gypsy Rose Lee!.......2001-02-23
Yes, its a lightweight film. Its also a great chance to see some rare footage of Gypsy Rose Lee's short film career. Randolf Scott (a handsome matinee idol in his day) is a strong veteran actor and plays his contrived role to the hilt. Don't expect plot; just enjoy the rich visual experience of this vacuous film-as-entertainment novelty feature.
