When Jack Butler (Michael Keaton) loses his job at an auto factory, he expects to quickly find another. But instead, his wife Caroline (Teri Garr) starts working for an ad agency and Jack ends up taking care of the house and kids. He soon runs afoul of shopping etiquette, a voracious vacuum cleaner, and he can't even drop his kids off at school properly. He starts losing his pride and letting himself go. He stops shaving, drinks at all hours, and watches soap operas. And not only does a predatory divorcée (Ann Jillian) have her eye on him, Caroline's new boss (Martin Mull) has more than business on his mind. Will their marriage survive? What makes Mr. Mom work isn't its role-reversal premise, but its clever off-the-main-plot scenes like the obstacle course at the company picnic, where a footrace with swim fins is set to a variation on the theme to Chariots of Fire; a poker game using discount coupons for money; or a traumatic, soap-opera-influenced dream Jack has when he realizes his life is going down the toilet. This is the first starring role for Michael Keaton, who went on to star in Beetlejuice and Batman; he makes the most of both its comic and sentimental side. The script, incidentally, is written by John Hughes, who later went on to write and direct The Breakfast Club and Home Alone. --Bret Fetzer

Description
Funnyman Michael Keaton (Beetlejuice) teams with Teri Garr (Tootsie in this "fresh and funny audience pleaser" (Boxoffice) that's all housework and no pay! Jack and Caroline Butler (Keaton and Garr) are perfectly happy with their roles in life until a layoff makes him a househusband and her a working wife! And while she wrangles with charts, graphs and an all-too-eager-to-be-wrangled boss, he has to contend with their hyper kids, a ravenous vacuum cleaner, an angry washing machine and an oversexed neighbor (Ann Jillian of TV's "It's A Living")! From late nights in the boardroom to lonely nights in the bedroom, the biggest challenge for both Jack and Caroline is learning to trust one another with their reversed roles which they'd better do quickly before Mr. Mom becomes Mr. Single Mom!

Mr. Mom.......2007-07-04
Purchased this for a friend of mine who is in fact a stay at home DAD. Perfect gift!
A classic!.......2007-06-14
A clean, fun film families can watch over and over for the great performances, witty dialog and hilarious circumstances.
Another great one.......2006-11-19
This movie is so funny. Michael Keaton is the best father, house keeper,
friend to all the girls, he is great! Family movie.
Mr. Mommie Dearest.......2006-06-12
There's a reason why Michael Keaton is one of my favorite comedic actors: he's simply so good. Keaton plays an out of work dad who has to take over the household duties while his wife brings home the bacon. The subplots have Keaton's wife, Teri Garr, being pursued by her boss and Keaton being pursued by a woman in the neighborhood.
The funniest part is when Keaton is dreaming his wife has caught him with another woman and has shot him. The scene plays out to the theme from The Young and the Restless as Garr's boss shows up to ask her what kind of gun she used. Garr: "A .38, a .39, whatever it took." After Keaton gets shot, he slides within a chalk outline of a dead body while showing disgust over his favorite shirt being ruined by the bullet.
Mr. Mom is a thoroughly funny and enjoyable film.
A must have movie.......2006-03-10
My husband wanted this movie, so I decided to finally get it for him. It's one of those movies you just have to have.

BABY BOOM/ MR. MOM.......2007-06-13
JUST THE GREATEST THAT MY WIFE CAN SAY!!!!!!!Baby Boom / Mr. Mom (Double Feature)
Baby Boom/Mr. Mom (Double Feature).......2007-04-02
Two great movies for a lower price - what could be better!
Two classic "reluctant/unprepaired parent" films from the 80's.......2006-03-20
In MR. MOM Michael Keaton is a man with a wife and three kids-two elementary school-age boys and a baby girl. Their family is like the classic pre-women's lib-era one: he goes to work every day while she has all the child-care and house-cleaning responsibilities. Then Mike is suddenly laid off from his job. He decides to get another one, but his wife decides she wants to see if she can get one herself. As it happens, she gets hired first, and Mike finds the roles reversed: while his wife goes to work, he must stay home and take care of the kids. Probably my favorite scenes are: when he's at a supermarket and he loses track of one of his boys, and finds some other kid hanging on his shopping cart. He finds his own son standing by a woman with a shopping cart. He switches kids, and as he's walking away with his son he hears the woman call out,"I don't have a kid!" Also I like the scene where his baby daughter eats a whole can of chili. (Hope they have enough diapers on hand.)
BABY BOOM was one of two films to come out in 1987 that delt with the theme of a childless adult who suddenly becomes the reluctant parent of a baby girl. (The other was THREE MEN AND A BABY.) Here Diana Keaton plays J.C. Wiatt, a high-powered corprate woman whose life is irreversibaly changed when she suddenly inherits a baby girl, Elizabeth. Very funny and charming.

Customer Reviews:
Charlie Rose Interview with Cher.......2007-03-09
As a collector of Cher's music I enjoyed the DVD. A suprise that the interviewer had not done enough research and was unaware that Cher had a son. This did not do the great lady justice and was a bad oversight.
