The movie "sleepover" is about a girl named Julie [Alexa Vega] who has a sleepover and invites 3 other girls. They do the usual sleepover stuff: website vandalism, frozen bra, makeovers, and fried Twinkies. Then Julie's old Stacey friend who became popular comes over and tells the girls that her and her friends made up a scavenger hunt and they want them to do it too. Julie agrees but she will only do it if Stacey agrees to a little deal, first one with all the stuff on the list and to get to the high school first wins a seat at the fountain [the high school lunch spot]. So Stacey prints it out and leaves. Julie and her friends do all the stuff on the list but at the same time have to worry about not getting caught being out of the house. The girls do all the stuff and make it to the high school but Stacey gets there at the same time, so they make another deal. Whoever gets the crown at the dance wins. Watch the movie to find out who gets the crown at the end.
I thought this was a great movie, one of Alexa's best. The best thing about this movie is that you can watch it over and over and it will never get boring. This was my favorite movie!
If you like funny situations and out of the ordinary adventures, this movie is great for you. This movie is more for girls 10-16 years old, because they probably can relate to all the girls in the movie better than a boy could.
Damaged dvd.......2007-06-09
The "Sleepover" DVD arrived damaged and scratched. I returned it to Amazon. It was supposed to have been "brand new", and it obviously was not.

In the movie sleepover theres a girl who has a sleepover party and her and her friends sneak out of the house for a cometition,With the popular girl stacy and her gang.And they had to dress up the doll boys you see in store windows into girl clothes. Ok, I'm not a kid but I'm using this account from time to time as Iit's easier than creating my own. So... first of all, I watched it yesterday and I thought it was quite lovely and optimistic :) I hadn't planned watching it, it just appeared and I thouhgt "why not"?
We got here 4 14-years old girls who have just graduated from junior high and and going to high school. Julie (Alexa) is, i believe, the main caracter.
On the other hand we have Sarah Paxton (I've no idea what she was doing there. She looked like she was 30 years old. I'm suprised she's the same age as Alexa). She's ex-friend of Julie and since she's been dumped by a boy, she proposes a game.... .
Girls have done really well (exept for Sarah - I can't stand her. All film I was wondering where did a see this Mika girl. She was playing the younger sister of Romolas in "DD: Hawana Nights". Nice.
There's nothing to say about directing or photos. It was just... you know, a teenage movie.
Music done good, though.
4 stars - you don't watch a your watch, that's what matters.
Oh, and Sean Faris as This Steve guy - hunky :D

I bought this at Walmart in the $5.50 bin. It's definately worth it. I love Alexa Vega and the other girls all create a fun chemistry that I wish I had with my friends. It's a good girl triump movie which seem to not happen anymore.

A great DVD for family viewing, who have enjoyed the TV series. The three episodes included in this DVD are: (1) Arthur's First Sleep Over- about Arthur, Brains, and Buster first sleep over in Arthur's back yard in a tent just after there have been reports of UFO sightings in the area; (2) Arthur's Lost Dog-Pal escapes from D.W.(who's holding the leash), and tries to get a balloon from a clown, whose allergic to dogs, so baby Kate will be pacified and stop crying; (3) Water And The Brain-about Brain having to admit his fear of water to the gang when Muffy advites everyone to a pool party.

Not only did my six-year old daughter love this movie (she won't stop watching it), but my eight-year old son enjoys it too. My daughter loves the actresses, who are very good, and now she wants to do all of the activities in the movie. I've started giving it out as a gift to my daughter's friends and they all seem to love it too. Highly recommended.

Compelling Film.......2001-09-29
I saw this film in Berlin a few years ago and was moved by it's callow yet intense perspective of teenage angst. Coming of age, it is - or isn't. Disturbing, yet subtle. Performances were right on. The bully was the quintessential. Intense, brooding, a suburban star. Some of the dialogue was underwritten and trite. Buckley is a genius and it's a hidden jewel that he scored a film. Where are the actors now? Where is Sullivan?

I saw this movie when it was at the Toronto Film Festival many years ago. It was an excellent depiction of what teens go through and how they are so affected by peer pressure. Michael Albanese did an amazing job as the popular leader of his peers. John Sullivan, the director, shot it in a way that made you feel you were actually a teenager again. I recommend this film with a big thumbs up!
Aye...but what about the movie?.......2001-07-21
I can understand being a big Jeff Buckley fan, but I'm astounded to find that every review of this film focuses solely on his music...and not, as reviews should, on the film as a whole. I think that we should all be thankful that this film is now being released on DVD. Up until now, it's been nigh-unto-impossible to acquire, or even SEE. I was lucky enough to catch it on either the Sundance Channel or the Independent Film Channel (IFC), no doubt at about four or five in the morning, back in 1998. Back when I had Sundance and IFC, I would check them regularly for fresh independent films, particularly at ungodly hours of the morning, when they seemed to showcase some of their best movies. I caught this film from the very beginning and was completely captivated until the final scene. This is one of those movies that doesn't feel like a movie. It feels a lot like life, especially if you're young and know what it was like to be a teenager in the '90s. This film works wonders with its low budget and speaks volumes more than the inferior Teen Angst flicks that Hollywood studios, with all of their millions, churn out in droves. Sure, there were some things in the film that I couldn't relate to personally. But if you were a high school student in the 1990s, there are many elements in this film that you can't help but relate to. I saw a lot of myself in these characters...for better or worse.

Not only did my six-year old daughter love this movie (she won't stop watching it), but my eight-year old son enjoys it too. My daughter loves the actresses, who are very good, and now she wants to do all of the activities in the movie. I've started giving it out as a gift to my daughter's friends and they all seem to love it too. Highly recommended.
