Russ Duritz (Bruce Willis) is an ultracynical, 40-year-old L.A. image consultant who fashions bogus façades for scumbag clients. Oblivious to his own need for a makeover, he's a tyrant in the office (to the chagrin of his sarcastic assistant, played to perfection by Lily Tomlin), and he's emotionally unavailable to the morally centered woman (Emily Mortimer) who senses goodness beneath Russ's hardened veneer. Not a moment too soon, a pudgy kid (Spencer Breslin) mysteriously appears in Russ's life, revealing himself to be Rusty Duritz--that is, Russ's 8-year-old self, arriving by some magic to put the adult Russ's life into beneficial perspective. This variation on A Christmas Carol has Rusty guiding Russ on a tour of his past to reveal how he became a loveless, hard-shelled loser. It takes a bit of smarmy chicken-soup psychology to explain it all, but The Kid is an otherwise charming and involving fantasy, suggesting that perhaps we'd all benefit from a bit of counseling by our younger selves. Written with admirable restraint by Audrey Wells (who brought a similar appeal to The Truth About Cats and Dogs) and directed by Jon Turteltaub (Cool Runnings), the movie doesn't force its supernatural elements or attempt to explain Rusty's existence. It's just a fable for our modern age and a reminder to embrace the better angels of our nature. Delivered with an easy blend of humor and sentiment, that message makes The Kid an unexpected pleasure. (Look closely for Matthew Perry as Willis's shaggy-haired client.) --Jeff Shannon

5 out of 5 stars Ah...to be able to see through the eyes of a kid again.......2007-04-30

This movie allows us to do that. Remember the dreams you had as a child...to be an astronaut, a movie star, something big and important? And how often these dreams are pushed aside as the practical side of the world takes hold of us. How we are changed due to events beyond our control as we grow up and how we are changed by decisions we make when we are children. We lose focus on what is important and instead run after things that seem important, while we lose ourselve in the process.

The Kid is a smart movie that uses a child version of a 'successful' almost 40 year old Bruce Willis to show him what is important. It is a heartwarming movie that will make you laugh and maybe cry a little. In the end, hopefully it will make you think and reevaluate. Dreams are what makes us unique. And we are never too grown up to revisit those dreams, but if we let them go, we become mere walking husks...zombies if you will. So watch the movie and live a little...no, I take that back, LIVE A LOT!

5 out of 5 stars GREAT MOVIE FOR ALL AGES : ).......2007-02-07

I had already seen this movie when I bought it. Although it is Disney it is great for all ages. I am 23 and it is one of my all time favorites! Definitely worth owning!

This is one of my favorite movies...I saw it many years ago when it first came out, but had forgotten about it until recently. Seeing it again I was not disappointed. It is a great movie for young and old alike.

4 out of 5 stars There's a little kid in all of us!.......2006-08-04

I went to see 'The Kid' for Bruce. Not to say that the idea behind 'The Kid' didn't interest me it's just that I'm not too big into Disney movies. Regardless, Bruce led me to it so I must follow. I have to admit, upon walking out of the theater I was touched in a way not to many movies touch me. I wasn't emotional because it was depressing and I wasn't outraged because it was upsetting. I was personally touched at the beautiful message this film conveys.

Bruce Willis (The Sixth Sense) plays Russ, a cynical tyrant sort-of-speak, a man that is so uncomfortable with affection that he rejects it even from the ones that love him the most. He's so deeply haunted by his childhood that he hides behind a rough exterior in order never to be hurt again. That's all until he meets himself. I should say he meets his 8-year-old self.

Throughout the remainder of the film the two Russ's try and figure out why Rusty (Spencer Breslin) was sent to Russ (Willis). Uncovering that reason will eventually lead to Russ coming to grips with his life and his past and hopefully making a much needed adjustment, whatever that may involve. The supporting cast is wonderful as well, Lily Tomlin (A Prairie Home Companion) perfectly casted as the witty sarcastic secretary Janet, and Emily Mortimer (Match Point) is delightful as Amy, the friend and co-worker who falls in love with the man Russ could be. A wonderfull film about finding ourselves for better or worse.

Tucked into the middle of Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen is a charming sequence in which two girls from New Jersey (Linsay Lohan and Alison Pill) try to go to a rock concert in New York and have their illusions broken, then restored, and then broken, just a bit, again. Lola (Lohan) yearns for glory by playing the lead in the high school play and getting to meet the lead singer of a band called Sidarthur. Despite the spiteful efforts of a popular girl, Lola gets everything she wants without much of a struggle. Most of the movie takes place in a glitzy but flavorless high-school world with glossy teenagers dressed like a less discriminating Christina Aguilera. Pill (Pieces of April) shines in the thankless role of the geeky best friend. Also featuring Glenne Headley (Dick Tracy) and Carol Kane (Office Killer). --Bret Fetzer

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars I actually thought this movie was really good.......2007-06-30

This family comedy is about a 17-year-old girl named Lola Step who dreams of becoming an actress and a singer. She lives in New York City, the center of the universe. Then her mom makes her and her two little sisters move to New Jersey to a small town named Dell Wood. Lola calls it "Deadwood." Though she thinks her dreams are crushed, she does make a new best friend named Ella and they both bond over their mutual love for the band named Stu Aruthur. The popular girl in school is mean to Lola, and they both compete for the lead role in the school play. Lola wins, and she'll be playing Eliza Doolittle. Lola and Ella sneak out to a last Stu Arthur concert where they run into Stu Wolf who is very drunk. As they run in the rain in the streets of New York and follow Stu, they get in trouble with the police. But Lola's dad comes and rescues them. Then, Lola and Ella go the Stu Wolf afterparty and have a great time. They even see the popular girl there. But the next day at school, she pretends she never saw them. This makes Lola very sad and she cries. She even doesn't want to play Eliza Dolittle anymore. But Ella convinces her she should and tells her how much Lola has changed her and made her more confident. So Lola does play Eliza in the play after all, and she's amazing. She acts like the confident and talented actress she is and she also sings. At the after party, Stu Wolf shows up with Lola's necklace that she left behind at the party the other night and gives it back to her. The snotty girl falls into a pool, and Lola is sweet enough to help her up. It proves that she was lying all along, and Lola really did meet Stu Wolf. Then Stu Wolf asks Lola if she wants to dance, and Lola says yes. And they both dance to a very catchy pop song. It's the first time Lola discovers that absloute reality can be so much more fun than fantasy. And that her dreams finally came true. She's an actress, an singer, she meet her idol, and she's disovering herself. Lola is a great role model for girls: she's eccentric, confident, beautiful, talented, and smart and believes in her abilites and follows her dreams no matter how crazy or wild they seem to be. I love Lindsay in this movie, she's awesome. I love Disney movies-they are always happy.

4 out of 5 stars So what's wrong with a little shallow nonsense?.......2007-04-15

If you're looking for the meaning of life, don't look here. But if you like to be entertained by talented young actors playing, and having fun while doing it, their parts ... do look here. Of course this is a silly little film, but it's bright and funny. Like it's "Freaky Friday" counterpart, there is just enough angst, just enough drama, just enough lesson, and a happy ending. Enjoy!

2 out of 5 stars SHALLOW NONSENSE.......2007-03-10

Unless you'e a teenager and I am not, this movie is really little more than a vehicle for then-hot Lindsay Lohan to prove she could sing and capitalize on her girl next door persona effectively launched with FREAKY FRIDAY. But even talented Lohan can't save this one.
All of the characters are vapid, shallow and not entirely likeable. The story puts them in positions of stupidity involving Lohan's obsession with a rock star (nicely played by Adam Garcia). There's not a teen cliche missing, and only Carol Kane as the dotty Drama teacher made me laugh. A really pointless movie.

2 out of 5 stars Yawn.......2007-02-19

After going to the theaters to watch Freaky Friday, and purchasing Mean Girls on DVD, and being pleased with both movies, I decided to give Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen a chance one day when they were giving it on Starz, and boy was I shocked to see that this movie wasn't good at all. The Main character Lola (Lohan), is a Hip NYC teenage girl, whom I couldn't relate to at all, After moving from NYC to the suburbs of New Jersey Lola is the New Girl, and all she does is strive for attention, and trying to compete with the popular girl, Carla (Megan Fox), who's character is just as unbearable as Lola's. Then there is Lola's new best friend, Ella (Alison Pill)who is shy and insecure about herself, and Lola's love interest, who I can't really remember, or barely see much of, but what I did find surprising is that he wasn't popular or a jock, he actually hung out with Lola and Ella. Most scenes in this movie are a total bore-fest, especially the one where Lola is telling Ella about how her father supposedly met her mother and how he "tragically died". We actually got to see a reenactment of the story, which they showed like some sort of really colorful, boppy, retarded looking cartoon, which made me cringe. The choreography was pretty lame, and Lola's wardrobe was pretty outrageous, which didn't bother me ,but they were the sort of things I would've never worn to school. This movie left me un-impressed.

1 out of 5 stars what a garbage.......2007-01-28

I not fan of Linsay Lohan but also have nothing against her acting... didn't had... I bought this movie just to enjoy some nice movie, but i was SO wrong.. this movie is absolutely stupid... and very disappointing.

I just watched Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen, well there's 1 hour and 20 minutes of my life that I'll never get back! Truly Appalling. It didn't make sense. It didn't flow. It was totally unbelievable. It had terrible characters. It had a terrible script, and possibly worst of all they tried to make it into a musical type thing...very unwise!

Avoid at all costs if u favour your sanity, it's boring, predictable and badly written.

And you're headed for thrills and laughter bigger than ever!

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars another good one.......2006-11-09

I guess you would consider this the sequel to Honey, I Shrunk the Kids. I always did, at least.

I'm surprised more people haven't written a review for this great movie. If I remember correctly, I went to see Honey, I Blew Up the Kid when it first hit theaters. I enjoyed it then, and when I watched the movie again last year, I found out that I STILL enjoy it.

I agree that the movie should have had more characters involved instead of sticking to the main family (for the most part) but that's not really a big problem. The fact that the kid blows up and walks around doing some creative and amazing things positively makes this a great family movie, in my eyes. When the kid finally leaves the house so all the people can see him, this is when the plot really kicks in. Every bit as good as Honey, I Shrunk the Kids.

5 out of 5 stars WoW!.......2005-10-26

I love this movie, Ive always wanted to own this movie. I have the first one and now I feel my collection is complete. Thanks alot!

4 out of 5 stars that's a big baby.......2005-08-22

A little boy and his stuft animal rabbit got sapt with the machine by acident. At a time when the boy get's around anything electrical he will get bigger once he hit 50 feet he gotten out of the house by himself. When he walk into Las Vegas he reach 100 feet.

4 out of 5 stars Wonderful follow up to the first.......2003-02-19

Usualy sequals to movies like this can really lack and leave a lot desired but this follow up to the hit "Honey I shrunk the Kids" is actualy a lot of fun and a nice change on the size changing themes that were developed in the first.

This movie realized that we probably saw enough of the shrinking and being lost in the backyard idea and decided to do the opposite. A few new characters were introduced in this movie to make things work. The most important being Wanyes new son Adam who is a 2 year old toddler and will be the focus of this latest instalment with the wacky inventor and his family. Wayne now is part of a big company who wants to use his size alteration invention for their own uses. The only problem is he can't get the growth part to work correctly. On a surprise visit to the lab with his two sons to do some extra work, 2 year old Adam accidently gets caught under the rays of the growth ray only to wind up growing very slowly over a long period of time. Before they can blink he has grown to over 100 feet tall and terrorizing
downtown Las Vegas. To make matters worse an evil partner in the company is trying to take control of things and wants the kid destroyed.

Its a fun story that really has a lot of creative moments like His other son and the babysitter getting captured by the giant and stuck in his shirt pocked for most of the movie. They make it look really realistic with the giant baby towering over some famous Las Vegas casinos and the crowd reacting pretty realisticly. Kinda like one of those silly Godzilla movies but still with a Disney charm to it. It has a great story and a good climax and everything seems to end up happily ever after. Its defintely a movie that all ages would enjoy, some may not like it more then the first but this one relies more on fewer characters and a focus of one huge character compared to a lot of small characters. So its a fair tradeoff I feel and worked well.

Unfortunatly though the movie has a few problems. One was that they totaly write out the daughter sending her to college, the neighbors too are not mentioned and they don't really show a lot in the way of the kid growing . He sorta just is one size one moment and bigger another. They could have done a little more with such things but those are minor problems.

Bottom line. If you are looking for a fun, carefree and family safe movie. This is the one for you. If you liked the first or any of the "Honey I..." movies this is a must get for the colection. You won't be disapointed.

An underrated actor, Sinbad is very good in this comedy-drama about a Secret Service agent who gets the thankless detail of guarding the president's bratty son. In time, the two become touchingly close, with Sinbad's character providing the kind of surrogate fathering the boy's ultra-busy dad can't give. The plot takes an inevitable turn toward greater drama when the young man is kidnapped, but director David Mickey Evans handles the whole thing very well, and the resolution makes for fairly satisfying action. But Sinbad's presence is an agreeably warm one--though he is also quite funny and original in early sequences when the prez's son is tormenting him--and makes this film surprisingly watchable. --Tom Keogh

Description

Sinbad plays wisecracking Secret Service agent Sam Simms, assigned to protect the President's rebellious 14-year-old son Luke (THE MIGHTY DUCKS' Brock Pierce). Simms would much rather be protecting the President, and Luke would prefer to be just a regular kid without a watchdog trailing him everywhere he goes. But a genuine friendship develops between the two when Simms volunteers to teach Luke how to deal with a school bully (HOME IMPROVEMENT'S Zachery Ty Bryan), and to untie his tongue so that he can win over a cute girl in class. But when Luke's mysterious Internet buddy convinces him to ditch his bodyguard in a crowded mall, the fun and games suddenly become a matter of life and death! The votes are in from both audiences and critics -- "Sinbad is hilarious" (KNX Radio/CBS Radio) in this "laugh-a-minute" comedy (Sneak Previews).

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Funny Disney Flick.......2006-09-01

Sam Simms (Sinbad) is an unorthodox Secret Service agent. The Secret Service assigns Agent Simms to protect the President's son, Luke Davenport (Brock Pierce of "Might Ducks"), code named Prince. Luke has managed to dispose of several previous Secret Service agents by driving them crazy, including Agent Woods (Timothy Busfield of "Thirtysomething" and "The West Wing").

The movie tries to portray Luke as a child ignored by his famous mother and father and unable to have a normal childhood. Though I empathize with Luke a little, he also generally acts wimpy. However, thirteen-year-old Luke has stirrings of normality as he gains a huge crush on classmate Katie Warren (Erin Williby in her final role) and has a run-in with the class bully. After the run-in with class bully Rob (Zachery Ty Bryan), Luke and Agent Simms begin to bond, and this movie really takes off.

Much of the movie is humorous, as it was intended to be. Most of the humor works, making this movie generally enjoyable. Sinbad steals the show, as you might expect. Sinbad mixes slapstick and one-liners that only occasionally clunk. Sinbad makes Luke Davenport look good and sparks life into the plot.

As with many Disney movies of this type, there are serious undertones. The movie becomes most serious near the end when Luke Davenport runs away from the White House and encounters a life threatening situation. Secret Service agents are in a panic as they try to locate the President's son. Fortunately, Agent Simms, just fired from the Secret Service for aiding Luke in going to a school dance, has a way of finding Luke that only Agent Simms knows about. The end of this movie is nicely plotted and enjoyable to watch.

I enjoyed watching Sinbad in this movie. Sinbad's comedy was generally fun, and he handles himself well. Most of the cast did very well. I would have replaced Luke Davenport with another actor, or would have had him perform with more confidence in school. Luke Davenport ran rings around the Secret Service and yet he was unable to keep from embarrassing himself. The plot was agreeable, with an action ending that provided a nice capstone to the comedy. There is some mild violence that generated a PG rating, but this movie should be suitable for most family members down to about age 7 or 8. Enjoy!

5 out of 5 stars Awesome comedy!.......2005-07-31

Just seeing the name of this great movie brings back a great memory from 1996. At the age of 18, even though I was officially an adult, thanks to being a member of the Fox Kids Club in my area as a kid, I was able to win free tickets to see a prescreening of First Kid because I knew Sinbad's name. My girlfriend on one side and a good friend on the other, we had to travel an hour to get to the theater where the prescreening took place, but if there was ever a movie worth an hour's travel, First Kid is the one! I still remember the loud chorus of laughter, particularly when Sinbad got the bully back with the huge spitwad, and the rest of the movie had no lack of great moments either. First Kid is delightfully funny, but at the same, it has a lot of feel good moments to it, and I truly feel for anyone who hasn't seen it. Great music, great times, great entertainment for all! With First Kid, you just can't go wrong!

5 out of 5 stars A Movie That Will Make You laugh Forever!.......2005-05-08

I think that this movie was very good. Sinbad is a very good actor as well as Brock Pierce. As soon as you see the first five minuites of this movie, youll never want to stop watching it. You can watch it over and over again withought getting bored.

5 out of 5 stars such a great movie.......2005-05-04

Of all the movies Disney has made, this is one of their best. I really like Sinbad (he's so funny) and the music. "Pressure" to me is such a perfect fit for the movie's plot. If only they had extended the "Land of Funk" scene, because that was also pretty good. I think I'll watch it again tonight.

5 out of 5 stars I love this film........2004-04-04

This film rules i would have hated to been luke stuck in his house and not allowed to go out with his friends.I really laughed at the bit where luke is asking the girl to the dance and his carers are in the bush telling him what to say and he copies everythink they say on some bits where he shouldnt.
I looked everywhere for this films so i bought it here and it rules!

To finance Disneyland he wanted to build, Walt Disney turned to the new medium of television. As host Leonard Maltin notes on this two- disc set of televised specials for the amusement park, Disney used the series to promote it, "and no one seemed to mind." ABC agreed to invest in return for a weekly one-hour program. The "Disneyland" TV show premiered on October 27, 1954: "Disneyland Story" introduced the park and its various lands, which would be the subject of future programs. The opening-day special, "Dateline Disneyland" (July 17, 1955), attracted an estimated audience of 90 million--virtually every television household in America. Hosted by Art Linkletter, Robert Cummings, and Ronald Reagan, the live broadcast includes such unplanned moments as Linkletter searching frantically for a microphone in Fantasyland. The Tenth Anniversary show (January 3, 1965) features cameos of Mary Blair and Marc Davis, two celebrated animation artists. Home movie footage of Walt pacing off distances at the barren site in Anaheim is intercut with peeks at forthcoming attractions. "Disneyland After Dark" (April 15, 1962) offers performances by Annette Funicello, Bobby Burgess, Bobby Rydell, Louis Armstrong, and a prepubescent quartet of Osmond Brothers. A must-have set for Disneyland buffs, Disney collectors, and nostalgic baby boomers. --Charles Solomon

5 out of 5 stars Legendary Heroes.......2005-07-04

I love the Disneyland DVD and I think it is exellent. I have a suprise for people who like the Disneyland DVD. On December 6th 2005 a new set of shows about the Swamp Fox and heros from the Revolutionary War like Francis Marion will be released together on a DVD released through Walt Disney Treasures series. The shows come from the TV show Disneyland jut like the shows on the Disneyland DVD. Try to preorder it in advance. I hope everyone and myself enjoys the new DVD.

3 out of 5 stars Great idea - wrong content.......2004-12-30

Great idea but wrong shows selected for the collection.

I recently discovered some of the shows that highlight the Disneyland park in Southern California while watching the old "Wonderful World of Disney" series on the Disney Channel. They were shown several times, so I recorded them on VHS tapes.

I bought this set thinking the programs I loved so much were included. I was wrong.

So you know what I am talking about, there were three shows in particular that should be, but are not, in this DVD set:

(1) Disneyland USA - I think dated 1956 and is pre-Wonderful World of Disney television show. This featurette was in COLOR and provides a tour of the original Disneyland park after it opened. It includes each of the "lands" and is nothing but park, park, park. It even has an extended piece on the Adventureland water ride. This program was more like a travel log feature that may have been shown in theaters (probably with a Disney movie).

(2) Day at Disneyland - from the Wonderful World of Disney television show and shown in BLACK and WHITE. This show started in the studio with Walt and Tinkerbell and moves to a tent in the parking lot from a Disney company picnic. It seems to have re-used footage from the Disneyland USA featurette and covered each "land" quite extensively.

(3) Pirates of the Carribbean - from the Wonderful World of Disney television show and shown in COLOR. This incredible show provides a design view of the ride, the actual building of the sets and mannequins and then film of the press opening with a full run through of the ride (like you were really in the little boat with the first riders).

It was shows like those listed above that really captured what the part must have been like in the beginning. It is really sad that the Anniversary Show and Disneyland at Night episodes were included but these three shows listed above did not.

1 out of 5 stars Revisionist History.......2004-12-01

This dvd is indeed edited. Where are the mouseketeers? On the original program Dateline Disneyland they were shown marching in the parade and they did their own special musical number and roll call. You won't see them here.Folks, this is NOT the entire program that was shown nation wide on television in July, 1955. Disney only wants you to see what they want you to see. Could this be revisionist history? Disney,if Walt wanted them to be included in the original 1955 program, who are you to take out what your founder originally wanted? If you're going to edit out things that Walt approved or had no problems with, then don't call yourself "The Walt Disney Company" anymore. Since his name is a part of the company name, then his values should always be there and nothing should ever be edited out that he approved of. Otherwise, you're truly not "The WALT DISNEY Company"! ALWAYS do things the way Walt would have done them or no longer call yourself "The WALT DISNEY Company". In a way, to be "The Walt Disney Company" you need to be the man himself.

2 out of 5 stars The star (Disneyland) deserves more screen time........2004-09-29

This is perhaps the most disappointing entry in the otherwise strong Walt Disney Treasures series, mainly because there's so little about Disneyland itself in it. The two discs feature four episodes from the Disney TV series, plus a companion feature so brief (under 9 minutes!) that it's hardly worth inclusion:

"The Disneyland Story" from 1954 shows how the TV series was essentially created to help bankroll construction of the theme park, but the episode features virtually no footage of the park or its construction (which was completed, remarkably, in less than a year). Instead, we see only models, padded with a rare glimpse of "Song of the South" but only in black-and-white. (Elsewhere in the Treasures series, footage originally filmed in color but broadcast in black-and-white is shown on the DVDs in color, but not this time, probably because the Disney Company has long been embarrassed by SOS's racial content--it's never been released in the U.S. on DVD.)

"Dateline Disneyland" features almost 90 minutes of live television coverage from opening day in 1955. It's heavily padded, however, with celebrity sightings, boring dedication speeches, marching bands and staged street performances that do little to highlight the attractions of the park. (How many times does the announcer have to say, "And here's Danny Thomas with his family!" before we get the point? I found myself fast-forwarding through two-thirds of this show.)

With the exception of some priceless color footage of jazz great Louis Armstrong performing on board the Mark Twain, "Disneyland After Dark" features mostly unremarkable stage acts interspersed with precious few scenes of the park lit up at night. All Walt Disney's scenes are filmed with actors on a sound stage--and they look it.

"Disneyland 10th Anniversary" from 1965 is the only segment that truly lives up to this set's billing as a showcase for Disneyland. Disney himself gives viewers a tour around the "imagineering" department, showing off early conceptual sketches and models for such classic attractions as the Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean, neither of which opened until after Disney's death in 1966. We meet such ground-breaking imagineers as Mary Blair and Marc Davis. Finally, we see color footage, narrated by Disney, of attractions that have long since been retired, like the Flying Saucers and Submarine Voyage. It takes a film like this to remind us what a boneyard Tomorrowland has become since Disney's death, but this episode alone is not enough to recommend the whole package.

Walt Disney Treaures Review 4 of 11
Sorry, no easter eggs on this set. (hidden DVD features)

Disneyland USA, the fourth and final volume of wave 1, is probaly the most important. Here, as with all the others, the DVD is enclosed in a numbered tin, along with a lithograph of the poster for Autopia, and a program booklet with a list of features and a letter from Leonard Maltin, the host of the series. On disc 1, we trace the early years of Disneyland with two complete episodes from the original TV show. Each have an intro by Maltin

The Disneyland Story: The very first episode of the Disneyland Television series, which give clips of whats to come in each section of the Disneyland television series anthology. There is a sneak peek of Disneyland, a peek at the new Davy Crockett series, and a tribute to Mickey featuring two entire cartoons.

Dateline Disneyland: Join your hosts Art Linkletter, Ronald Reagan, and Bob Cummings as they cover live, the inagural day at Disneyland, with the late Reagan covering the dedication. This is the most important of the set, and is a treat for Disneyland film buffs and fans alike.

On disc two, there are two more shows in full color, with intros by Maltin.

Disneyland After Dark: Here, we get to meet amazing stars from the sixties, journey through Disneyland after dark, and meet a couple of the famous "Mouseketeers," including Annete Funicello.

Disneyland 10th Anniversary: This piece has two parts. One showing new attractions at Disneyland, mainly the then in progress Pirates of the Carribean, Haunted Manision and Its a Small World. Then the history of the park, during construction, new attractions and a lot of other juicy stuff.

Finally there are the bonus features.

The Magic Kingdom and the Magic of Television: This documentary gives a short history of the park and the Disneyland TV Show with Leonard Maltin

Gallery: A gallery of photographs and posters, as well as merchandise.

The smallest of the four in wave 1, Disneyland USA could have a little more material. However, that is a small price to pay for the historical broadcasts in this wonderful set. I'll write the reviews for Wave 2 tomorrow. See you then.

Faith in oneself is crucial but often difficult to develop. Calvin Fuller (Thomas Ian Nicholas), a misfit from the 20th-century "Knights" baseball team, lacks self-confidence. Imagine his alarm when he's sucked into the Middle Ages to answer the wizard Merlin's (Ron Moody) plea for a "Knight" to save King Arthur and Camelot from the scheming Lord Belasco (Art Malik). Intense culture shock befalls all involved as a bewildered Calvin dines on pig snouts and learns to lance while King Arthur (Joss Ackland) and his court members are confounded by 20th-century inventions like rock & roll and roller-blading. Eventually, Calvin's interactions with the king and his court spark a journey of personal growth that leads to love and a newfound confidence that enables him to help King Arthur, Princesses Katey (Paloma Baeza) and Sarah (Kate Winslet), and Camelot as a whole. Will Calvin's confidence accompany him back to the 20th-century? Loosely based on Mark Twain's A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court. (Ages 5 and older) --Tami Horiuchi

But before he can find a way to vanquish Belasco, he must first find a way to conquer his own fears. Now you can own Disney's marvelous mixture of medieval myth and modern mirth that will have the whole family cheering!

5 out of 5 stars Sweeet dude!!.......2007-03-03

This movie is really sci-fi and good with kindergarteners. It is totally rad dudes and dudettes. It sweet. I would steal excalibur though if i was the kid. He should take it and run. I want my own equiizer that they metion in the movie.

2 out of 5 stars Two Stars.......2007-02-05

I rated this 2 stars because there are TWO STARS in the film. Kate Winslet from Titanic , Etc. and the new James Bond 007 (Casino Royale) Daniel Craig. My Daughter is a huge Daniel Craig fan and she got the film just to see what he looked like before she was one year old. (she's now 12) This is run of the mill, every line is predictable stuff but, I must say after having taken my daughter to see Casino Royale 9 times, this was a real hoot!!! It is fun seeing actors early in their career paying their dues. i have seen an episode of the old 1950's TV series Highway Patrol and it had Clint Eastwood as a Biker. It was one of the first things he ever did. Anyway, I would reccommend this movie if you need a good laugh, unintentional as it may be.

3 out of 5 stars Kate Winslet.......2007-01-05

Kate was the best actor in the film no doubt, but as this is a movie for Children I cant really say anything bad about it. My kids loved it and keep in mind it isnt a "new" film in which the effects are cooler than life or perfect.
All in all its a good/cute movie for kids or a Kate fans collection.

5 out of 5 stars Yes it's corny but cute! .......2005-12-08

There were many corny scenes in this movie and also things that didn't jive with the real Arthur story.. but so what? Its just a kids movie. Even though it's corny(obviously trying to be) it is fun and full of action. We are learning about the middle ages in homeschool and this was the only movie I could find on the period suitable for a 2nd grader. (Except educational ones at the library) We are learning all the factual information and the authentic Arthur story from library books and this was just for fun and to make it more visual. Now he knows what a tournament would look like and how knights would dress as well as what a castle might look like in real life instead of on a page. I think this movie is just for fun and not for grown adults who want a more realistic Arthur movie. There are very few "corny" movies out there I would bother to watch but I actually enjoyed this one. ;)

5 out of 5 stars A Classic.......2005-09-15

My kids and I love this movie. It is a classic good over evil plot but a little more. A dork who always gets picked last for sports gets to become a hero because he has to. Its a great message for kids. The jokes are funny (yes and corny). No inappropriate behavior, no blood, no cursing. Good clean fun with good values added.

5 out of 5 stars Amazing Educational Video!.......2006-12-12

If you're looking for an educational, fun, and informative DVD, here it is! Kui's Sunny Days is the perfect DVD for emergent readers who can follow along to the text while listening to the matching words being read aloud. Being a teacher myself, I know how hard it can be to find educationally appropriate media that addresses reading and can maintain student interest. There is no doubt that this DVD would work wonders in my classroom, where I have readers who are struggling to sound out words while also trying to stay interested!

This DVD follows Kui the dog and his friends (who are all adorable) through their daily lives and the issues they encounter. These stories are sure to capture anyone's attention and are easy to relate to. The safety lessons touched upon in this DVD are valuable for children and can be used to teach character education. The most amazing thing is that this DVD would work as well in a home as it would in a school setting!

Not only did this DVD come within 1 week, I recieved a confirmation email immediately upon ordering from the creator herself! I couldn't be happier with this purchase and plan to use it in my classroom with all of my emergent readers!

Thank you!

5 out of 5 stars Baby and two toddlers!.......2006-12-07

Hi everybody! Um so it can be a lifesaver to pop in a video for the kids, but sometimes as I watch my pumpkins vegging out in front of the popular commercial videos, I feel a little bit guilty.

Most other commercial videos for kids, like Dora or baby Einstein, seem like sweet sugar candy. They're too stimulating, with little nutrition value, and kind of addictive. They overexcite my kids, but at the same time don't teach any real skills or make them think.

I don't know if anyone else here has had this experience, but my kids look so passive watching commercial shows and videos, it's like they're little drugged robots! It's a little bit scary. Afterwards, seems like it's harder for them to concetrate and pay attention to me! Like they're addicted to all the flashing lights and over the top animated special effects. I worry those shows are bad for the brain. I certainly don't think they're doing anything too good.

Kui's Sunny Days is completely different. It's a sunny, fun, active, happy educational experience. It's like having a sweet, child-friendly girlfriend over to lead my kids through an educational storybook. Feels so much better and more nutritious than just another another addictive commercial video. Plus, my kids love it.

So I can still take a break while the kids are watching, without having to worry that their little minds and crucial brain development are taking a break too! Can't recommend Kui's Sunny Days highly enough, there's nothing else really like it out there.

Just seems more caring to me.
Go Kui!

Jimmy has a calling to box and nothing can stop it, not even the veto of his parents. So he spars in secret, sneaking down to the local gym to meet with his mentor/trainer Harry. Still, he's haunted by guilt, manifested as the specter of his father, glowering at him in the ring. Complicating matters is the plight of his best friend, who hates boxing but is forced into the sport by his wealthy father. Rod Steiger (In the Heat of the Night) does the gruff, heart-of-gold duties as Harry. The relationship between the two is believable and touching but comes to an abrupt end when Harry succumbs to a heart attack just as a competitor rats out Jimmy to his parents. While the ending is predictably upbeat, there are dark moments along the way and some tough boxing scenes, making this most appropriate for ages 8 and up. --Kimberly Heinrichs

This movie is a hybrid of Karate Kid and Rocky. It is fun, has a lot of heart and absolutely nothing offensive. Anyone who liked the Karate Kid would like this one even better; it is a much better movie.

It is a great story, well told and will offend no one with inappropriate content.

We came acrossed it by accident, and I'm glad we did.

1 out of 5 stars Ugh! This is not that THE KID........2003-08-23

From the opening credits with its unispired music that goes on and on, and the opening dialog, this is a real stinker. Dark moments make it appropriate only for older persons, but older persons will find they can't sit through the stunningly poor script. I only bought this because is was very inexpensive, and I thought I was getting Disneys the kid.

Kevin Bacon stars in this quickie sports film that's really more a culture-clash comedy. He plays an assistant coach at the college-basketball level who's looking for that big, big recruiting score and finds it in a distant African village. But his quarry, a seven-footer (Charles Gitona Maina) he spots in an anthropology film, turns out to be the prince of his tribe who's in line for the crown and has no interest in becoming fodder for Sports Center. So it's up to the callous American to convince him that he wants to give this all up to live in a dorm and chase coeds (while, of course, honoring his ancestors). Unfortunately, the jokes are stale and the basketball footage is nothing to get excited about. --Marshall Fine

2 out of 5 stars no title.......2006-04-04

Except for the presence of Kevin Bacon, whom I like a lot, this would have been a real loser. There were so many things wrong. Directed by Paul Glaser with no surprises, no depth of character, a too heavy-handed Hollywood scenario. You knew what was coming a mile away. There was good cinematography and music, and Kevin Bacon is always appealing, but that's the best I can say. Oh, and the nun. She was pretty good too. The lead black man was also engaging; the problem was really the script. Too pat, and too many unbelievable things that screamed "Hollywood". Like when the village burned down. They were ready to just up and leave where they'd lived for generations. As if it takes generations to rebuild their houses. And there were no signs of the burned buildings during the basketball game. And Bacon was supposed to climb this incredible mountain, get cut in the groin, then play basketball, all on a rotten knee. Please.

5 out of 5 stars AMAZING ! ! ! ! !.......2004-05-23

This has got to be one of the best movies I have watched in a long time! At some point in time, you have to get tired of all the synthetic and predictable stuff that hollywood spews and this movie is the break that hollywood needs ! The setting is spectacular, done in Kenya and I personally fell in love with Kenyan cheerleading; the maasai dances, the passion and energy of the people are all so refreshingly different ! I would recommend this to anyone who wants to watch a fantastic movie !

How did they do that? The most heart warming story about basketball ever. Did the actor really score or was it a basketball player that did a great job of acting? I guess we'll never know. Worth the price for the DVD. A must for your collection.
