That adorable Audrey Tautou from Amélie plays the central role in this deceptive story of a rather unusual romance. It would spoil the film's clever design to reveal what happens halfway through He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not, so let's just say that Tautou plays a winsome girl in the sunny town of Bordeaux, whose relationship with a married doctor has more layers than first it seems. Samuel LeBihan, from Brotherhood of the Wolf, plays the doctor, but it's the casting of cutie-pie Tautou that sets up the movie's gradually sinister undertow. Director Laetitia Colombani's inventive structure plays a satisfyingly tricky game with the audience, and may have some viewers going back to the beginning to make sure they saw what they thought they saw. Just don't go in expecting Amélie part deux, and you should find this an ingenious little number. --Robert Horton

5 out of 5 stars Amelie becomes scary.......2007-05-15

To escape being typecast as cute, Audrey plays a psychotic with a dangerous delusion. The film presents the story to the viewer from two perspectives, with an ending that reminds one of Alfred Hitchcock. Ms. Tautou plays her youthful, sweet smile to great effect, and the viewer is manipulated into compassion - for the wrong person. Even if Audrey Tautou were not in the film, it is worth seeing.

2 out of 5 stars Trying to break away from stereotype?.......2007-03-19

Audrey Tatou is most well known for her kooky role in Amelie, a film that's greatly admired, and that I loved. I also liked her in A Very Long Engagement. I borrowed this from a friend, as I hadn't seen it yet, but then I took ages to get around to watching it.

During the first forty minutes of this film, you will consider switching it off. It's very strange. For starters, the boyfriend appears as a jerk, yet Angélique seems completely besotted, dare I say it OBSESSED, despite the fact he's not only married, and as a child on the way, but seems to treat her with nothing but contempt. And he barely speaks in the first forty minutes. It's a whirlwind romance, and things seem to be happening way too fast.

Don't touch your remotes when it starts "rewinding" itself though, this is a very clever thing. The film actually switches points of view, from Angélique to Loïc, the boyfriend, played by Samuel Le Bihan, who was also in Brotherhood Of The Wolf.

It's quite a twisted plot, and I really don't want to give too much away in this review. Even from reading the blurb on the back, you don't expect He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not, to unfold the way it does. It does invite comparisons to Fatal Attraction, but it's a lot cleverer than that. It's also the French version of Sliding Doors I guess, it has a couple of similarities in it.

However, it does drag out just slightly too long. When everything is on the screen in front, you're nodding, and waiting for it to end. But it doesn't. I actually ended up hating the Angélique character, and the mood I was in as well, did not help. Samuel Le Bihan does play a brilliant character, although it was kinda irritating in the first forty minutes how he didn't have anything lines to say. The second half is where he comes through.

Looking at stuff on IMDB, it's quite interesting, as one reviewer described it, as how the different titles in different countries, are literally "lost in translation". The French title translated straight into English is "Passionately... not at all" - the first half from Angélique, the second half from Loïc. But the full phrase is actually "il m'aime a la folie, il m'aime pas du tout", which means "he loves me, a little, a lot, passionately, crazily (insanely), not at all". The German title is "Wahnsinnig verliebt", which means "crazily in love".

I'm not sure if I would ever watch this again, it is a very strange film, but it's definitely worthwhile picking up on the cheap. Just don't expect another Amelie.

This movie is amazing, we watched it in my French class and I just recently purchased it. It is one of my favorites.

4 out of 5 stars Il M'a Choqué- A French Romance/Thriller tinted with the blackest of black humor.......2006-12-22

To be honest after watching this film I felt like I needed an insulin shot, and just wanted to curl up on the coach to watch Amelie again. He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not (À La Folie, Pas Du Tout) is a wickedly twisty and clever French film that makes great use of its cast and lead actress, Audrey Tautou. As well, it uses music to a great ironic effect better than any movie I have ever seen (though "What A Difference A Day Makes" in Run Lola Run comes close). I agree it is probably best to watch the movie without very much previous information (besides the knowledge that it is two-faced) as your experience will be more rewarding. While it did ultimately leave me feeling sad for all the characters involved it is nontheless an ingrossing and well made film that lives up to what it promises. Great for those who enjoy romantic thrillers and dark comedy (and I mean very dark); if you only enjoy films with happy/conventional endings this is not a movie for you. What I do know is that you will never think of the song L-O-V-E in the same way again.

Angelique, a young student, is in love with a married doctor. We see her attempts to make him leave his pregnant wife, but he does not appear for meetings or finally the booked journey to Florence. Then the movie is turned back to the beginning, and the view changes: We are now following the view of the doctor instead of Angeliques. And things look quite different now...

2 out of 5 stars Only gets 2 stars for the wonderful music videos =( *sad*.......2001-08-05

I'm sorry to say, but this DVD is lacking entertainment! Me being a huge fan of Dream, would think more would have been added to this DVD. If you bought the DVD for destiny's child "The Platinum's on the wall" and was upset because only music videos were on it (and so much was left out..), well the same thing for this one. The special features were kind of lame:

    1) Picture gallery - There was a mistake....the link says "Gallery This is Me Remix" (I don't remember if it said "Picture Gallery" off the top of my head), it should of been "Gallery He Loves U Not Remix". The pictures are the same ones found in the album pocket book! The cover art too! >- < then when half the song is over, the pictures run out and the same ones are shown all over again. It's a damn slide show... They are very pretty, but those of us who have the album will just be thinking I have seen these before. Plus the slide show...gets boring after the first time....the remix of he loves you not is the same on the album...

    2) There was a special feature that was supposed to be live footage (oh aw...*happy*) from there live performances in malls they did. NO! There is NO live performances! (*sad*) There is just footage! What the producers did was just show footage, but made it into a music video type thing, to "This is Me". And what sucks is that, it is footage of the girls playing in the snow, hanging out, performing, and talking. What the *&^%? I don't know why this was made into a music video type thing, it would have been better if we could have heard what they were talking about when they were hanging out (so we could get a look at there real personalities and actually live performances would have been great.) But no, we get this cheesy cut up music video type footage.

    3) A profile - This was interesting...i found out the owner of dream's official web site got her or his information on the girls from here. He or she literally copied the information from here...not very original..anyway, this profile was ok. It could have been better if more detail was added to the girls profiles. =( and poor Diana (I love her! She is just so cute! *cyber hug*) only gets a couple of sentences for her short profile...but if you are wondering how the girls came together, you will find out. But the information is straight forward and leaves out interesting small details. (like how diana ended up in the group...because she wasn't part of the original group...but they left that out >- <...)

Now this DVD was basically centered around being a single for Dream's 2 music videos:

"He Loves You Not" I love this video... "This is Me" - The first version! Not the new version! The new version feat. Kain was made after this DVD came out!

and !NO! there was !NO! making the video footage! NONE! not even an interview for the artists to explain the meaning of the song! JUST THE MUSIC VIDEOS. I know one reviewer said there was, but I think he or she didn't actually buy this DVD...I think he or she just read false information from a Dream web site or something...

Well I hope this review was helpful for you! ^-^

    4 out of 5 stars Not Bad.......2001-07-20

I'm a fan of Dream. They are talented girls with a long career ahead of them. I though the DVD was good, just needed a little more like a making of the video or something, otherwise it was good. My favorite girl is Ashley, and lets see what they do with there next videos. As far as the DVD is concerned, it is good on sound, and also has a small photo gallery. I'd get this if your a Dream fan, just to have their two debut videos.

3 out of 5 stars He Loves You Not/This is Me.......2001-04-23

Well, This is a pretty good dvd. First, It has both of Dream's music videos This is Me & He Loves You Not and They're both the full versions of the videos along with a making of, It also includes quite a few pictures of the group Dream, The bios of each of the girls and it even has 2 easter eggs on it consisting of the 2 songs that weren't included on the cd and A short video clip of them demoing one of the songs. But I will leave that for you people to find. This is a pretty good dvd better than what I expected the sound is good I love playing this through my speakers even though it is only dolby surround sound, the picture is pretty crisp, However sometimes it seems as if youre looking at the tv quality versions of the videos and not the quality expected coming from watching a DVD. Also I wish they couldve put more on this dvd But I guess not overall 3 stars for this dvd it couldve been better in terms of the picture quality and with the sound issues.
