Not nearly as good as the original French comedy, Three Men and a Cradle, upon which this is based, Three Men and a Baby nevertheless is decent brain candy directed with some crackle by Leonard Nimoy. Tom Selleck, Steve Guttenberg, and Ted Danson star as three swinging bachelor roommates who find a baby girl on their doorstep--the daughter of Danson's character (who doesn't know about her) by a woman (Nancy Travis) with whom he had a brief fling. The jokes about dirty diapers and feeding schedules are predictable, but the film gains real warmth from Selleck, who does a convincing job playing a fellow whose life is changed for the better by added responsibility. A distracting subplot involving some bad guys threatens to derail everything, and the ending is a bit unconvincing as filmed, but the virtues of this movie finally win out over its weaknesses. --Tom Keogh

Comedies don't get much better than this.......2007-01-04
Tom Selleck is the mature father figure, Ted Danson is the "look at me" actor, Steve Guttenberg is the second string comedian. This trio meets one little bitty girl and their lives are forever changed. If you are looking for a relaxing movie with lots of fun, this is it!
I think she did a doodle.......2006-10-09
The 80's movies. I get poked at when I mention an 80's flick when Im at work. Three Men and a Little Baby was definatly one of those great 80's comedy flicks you can watch over and over while bringing you back to nostalgia lane. Basically 3 bachelors (Ted Danson, Tom Sellick, Steve Gutenberg) are living the bachelor life in a gorgeous Manhattan penthouse ( I think on Park Ave). There lives get interupted when a baby is left at their doorstep. What happens is madcap laughter watching the guys cope with a baby that makes so much of something so disgusting.
Great Movie! Great Laughs! I dont care about the Paris version. Great soundtrack. For anyone who likes 80's flicks, this is a must have for your collection.

Jackie Chan as a Robbers, babysitter, a kidnapper with a randsom and headaches.
Customer Reviews:
(3.5 STARS) Jackie Chan's "Three Men and a Baby" with Several Very Good Stunts.......2007-04-09
"Rob-B-Hood" ("Bo bui gai wak") features the misadventures of three ne'er-do-wells Fong (Jackie Chan), Octopus (Louis Koo) and Landlord (Michael Hui), to whom a new job is assigned from a mobster on the worst day of their lives. That lucrative job involved kidnapping a baby, but because of their slight mistakes gambling bachelor Fong and lady's man Octopus are forced to take care of the baby on their own.
"Rob-B-Hood" is a Jackie Chan film, which means it contains actions. Though the film has several above-average action sequences, Chan and director Benny Chan (who helmed Jackie's "Who Am I?" and "New Police Story") is more interested in character-driven dramas. Consequently the film's middle part slows down considerably with subplots about Jackie Chan and Louis Koo's characters, both of whom act out of selfishness at first, and then begin to behave like mother and father to the kidnapped baby. The plot is predictable and overlong, and you may say these non-action sequences could be left out in the finished version, but the drama part is not bad as you may think. (By the way, the episode about the illness of Fong's father is part based on the real-life event that happened to Jackie's own mother, and this may explain his acting which is more intense than usual.
It is amazing to see Jackie Chan (52 years old, remember?) is still nimble and doing stunts himself, but at the same time the obvious use of special effects in some actions may be disappointing to some fans. This is not to say his stunts are not dangerous - see the end credit bloopers, and you know it - but well-choreographed as they are, action sequences could have been much better with new ideas like more original use of props.
Comic thesp Michael Hui is always funny, and Louis Koo shows some wonderful action stunts. "Rob-B-Hood" also stars familiar faces in Hong-Kong films such as Yuen Biao, cute Charlene Choi, plus lovely Yuanyuan Gao from mainland China. Many cameo appearances from Hong Kong film industry would also delight the fans, but the greatest scene stealer of the film is of course, Matthew Medvedev or Baby Matthew, who actually is nominated as Hong Kong Film Award's Best New Performer.
"Rob-B-Hood" is a quite entertaining popcorn movie with great set-pieces. There is nothing new storywise, but it delivers with its real stars, thrilling actions and the adorable baby
Refreshing.......2007-02-21
If you're expecting tons of fights and crazy stunts then you probably won't like this movie. It's toned down alot compared to his movies from the 80's and 90's and there is some noticable wire-work (which is common in alot of his new movies) but he is getting up there, pushing 53. I think he's earned the right to use wires because alot of the stuff that's done with the wires is stuff that he could have easily done when he was younger and less-injuried.
Anyways, the movie itself is very refreshing compared to hollywood movies which populate north america. I know that the whole "men taking care of baby" act has been done before and I'm sure you're thinking this is just another one of those movies, but I was surprised to find that it isn't. It's unique and the story has surprising depth to it. The advertising for this movie is kind of misleading with the baby dressed up in different outfits and styles for the cute factor but in reality the movie isn't as crazy as the cover art and posters portray it to be. It is a more of an upbeat movie, but it isn't over the top silly.
The movie has a bunch of emotional scenes that I thought, made the movie stand out from the average baby-comedies out there.
It's a long movie (the extended cut at 2 hours and 15 minutes) but it didn't really seem to drag on at all. I'd recommend this to any Jackie Chan fan that isn't expecting insane action from his past, but don't worry there are a few fight scenes and stunts to satisfy.
I like this movie!!.......2007-02-05
Jackie Chen's movie always make me happy. this movie make my family laugh, even my 2 years old daughter.
A big step back for Jackie Chan.......2007-01-21
After regaining some of the ground he lost in Hollywood with his last couple of Hong Kong films, Jackie Chan takes a big step backwards with the overlong Rob-B-Hood, a downmarket three bad men and a baby romp that offers limp gay jokes, comic relief mental illness, family bonding and child endangerment for all the family. There is one fairly good action sequence at the halfway point as well as a neat stunt that sees him jumping down a building via the air conditioning units, but you definitely get the feeling that Chan's no longer pushing himself but is just doing what he knows he can still do while Yuen Biao is mostly wasted in a nothing bit part. He's made worse, but that's hardly a recommendation.
The 2-disc set includes both the theatrical and extended festival cut of the film, both with audio commentary subtitled in English. There's also a huge variety of deleted scenes, trailers, featurettes and music videos (mostly subtitled in English), but the film is such heavy going you quite possibly won't want to spend any longer on it once you've seen it.

When a baby girl appears on the doorstep of a Parisian apartment belonging to a trio of hedonistic bachelors, baby care is thrust upon them with hilarious and, ultimately, heartwarming results in this 1985 French comedy (with English subtitles) by writer/director Coline Serreau. Pierre, Michel, and Jacques are pleasure-seeking professionals with the singular goal to seduce women in their spare time. When Jacques leaves on a three-week vacation, a mix-up ensues and roommates Pierre and Michel (Roland Giraud and Michel Boujenah, respectively) discover that the "package" Jacques has enlisted them to watch in his absence is a cooing infant in a pink bassinette. With no prior experience and unable to contact Jacques (André Dussollier) to whom the baby was "addressed," they dive into the frenzied fracas of diapers and feeding schedules. Adding insult to insanity, they must fend off drug dealersand police--interested in another "package." The simple storyline leaves plenty of room for shenanigansformulaic perhaps, but still irresistible. Rather than a morality play on the recklessness of child abandonment, farcical comedy prevails. Over time, the men are smitten with little Marie who gives them plenty of adorable moments until they can't live without her. The obvious appeal of the story inspired the American remake two years later, though the French version is more compelling, nuanced, and touching. Parents should take note of the PG-13 rating for excessive profanity and sexual content. (Ages 12 and older) --Lynn Gibson
Description
Three clueless and hedonistic bachelors are forced to trade dames for diapers when an infant is left on their doorstep. Winner of the César Award for Best Film and nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Film, writer-director Coline Serreau's irresistible, sweet-natured farce was one of the most popular French comedies of the 1980s, and inspired the blockbuster American remake.
Customer Reviews:
Bringing Up Baby.......2005-09-21
Shrewd advice: Always seek out the original when America decides to remake a foreign film in its own image. The Hollywood moneymaker "Three Men and a Baby" and its unmentionable sequel are, well, laughable alongside the superior French comedy "Three Men and a Cradle" now out on DVD. Men's bonding with children isn't new to cinema ("Kramer versus Kramer"), but treating child abandonment as farce was when this film opened in 1985. It became a big European hit, won France's best film Cesar Award, and got nominated for a Hollywood Oscar. Absolutely delightful describes it best.
Three bachelors in an upscale apartment continue to pursue women and their jobs, deflecting police snoopers and drug dealers, all the while caring for a baby girl left on their doorstep. That's the set-up, which the American remake never got beyond. The movie is really about how gender switching, including diaper-changing and bottle feeding, permits the inner man to express his true self. All of the actors have a sweet sense of ensemble, yet each man bonds with the baby in his own way. If you have to ask how this perfectly charming comedy will end, you have never been a parent.
brilliant.......2005-04-26
this is the original film and much less schmaltzy and cute than the truly awful American remake (3 men and a baby). Don't watch the bad remake, watch this. 3 batchelors, keen on women and wine are left with a baby. Yes the men grow to love Marie, but only in time, and only really when they release a package of drugs is the real parcel to be collected. love is not instant (as in the US remake). subtle too. I saw this subtitled years ago in a cinema in NZ and have loved it since.
Actually better than what you might expect.......2005-03-12
Three young independent bachelors live together in Paris. One day, a woman, known to all three men, leaves a baby on their doorstep. She wants them to care for it while she goes to America. It's a total disaster for them at first, as expected, and just as predictably they soon grow fond of the little tike, learn responsibility, and become less selfish. When the mother returns and they have to give the baby up, they are despondent and their lives suddenly have a big hole in it. Sounds like it should be a big mess, but actually it's very well done and, best of all, believable. [This is the French version which inspired the American remake two years later.]
Silly, But Quite Fun.......2001-04-27
This 1985 French comedy is best known as the source material for the Disney hit Three Men and a Baby, but is quite entertaining in its own right. Pierre, Michel and Jacques, three self-centered ladies' men who share a spectacular Paris apartment, are thrown for a loop when an ex-girlfriend abandons infant Marie--"the fruit of our passion"--on their doorstep. (This is apparently a temporary measure, designed to teach Jacques, the baby's actual father, a lesson.) As you can probably predict, the complaints and bumbling new-dad hijinks are many, and they grow highly attached to Marie...just in time for the mother to arrive to take her back. Or will she?
This is hardly a perfect movie--there's a subplot involving drug smugglers and mistaken identity that's particularly clunky and out of place--but it's silly and warmhearted fun for anyone who doesn't mind a movie with a (very cute) baby as the center of the action. No slapstick, just a domestic comedy with a sharply Gallic sense of humor and some surprisingly gentle moments. The actor who plays Michel, and whose character seems to love Marie the most, is particularly good. Recommended.
I fell in love with Roland Giraud... (mild spoilers).......2001-04-25
I saw this movie before the mediocre American remake, THREE MEN AND A BABY, came out, and I'm so glad I did. There's really no comparison.
The premise -- three confirmed bachelors taking care of a tiny baby -- seems contrived at first, but the three principle actors, Roland Giraud, Boujenah and Dussollier, deftly handle their characters with humor, intelligence and sympathy. There are some very funny scenes, not so much with the expected gee-I'm-a-man-handling-a-little-baby kind of slapstick but rather the three men arguing with each other and their friends.
Best of all, the sweet scenes are never overly-sentimental or trite but instead are gentle and moving. Roland Giraud is absolutely brilliant. MILD SPOILER: The scene in which Giraud comes home to find the apartment ransacked has him running frantically throughout looking for the baby. When he finally finds her, safe and sound, his absolute relief and joy flood from the screen. I fell in love with him at that moment.
You'll most likely find this in the foreign film section of your local video store, as I did many years ago, and if you're like me, you'll wind up ordering it. However, lucky you will only pay a pittance compared to the $89.95 I shelled out way back when. Yes, I wanted it that much.

THE 80s ARE BACK BABY.......2004-05-11
Oh my! How can you go wrong with Tom Selleck, Steve Guttenberg, and Ted Danson. This is the best 80s movie that includes a baby and three men. This is what I have wanted for a long time. This movie is funny from start to finish. This package includes "Adventures in Babysitting" with Liz Shue which is also a fantastic film. I know what I am asking for Christmas. Makes a great 80s gift.
